We estimate the reach of the 14 TeV LHC and future hadronic and leptonic colliders in the parameter space of the minimal composite Higgs model, outlining the complementarity of direct resonance searches and indirect information from the measurements of the Higgs boson couplings. The reach on electroweak charged spin-one resonances, taken here as representative direct signatures, is obtained from the current 8 TeV LHC limits by an extrapolation procedure which we outline and validate. The impact of electroweak precision tests, and their possible improvement at future colliders, is also quantified.
A method is proposed to directly probe the Higgs boson compositeness using the unique characteristics of a boosted Higgs boson produced in association with a weak gauge boson ($W^{\pm},Z$). The discovery potential for the upcoming LHC running is presented, showing that compositeness scales up to 3 TeV can be probed at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of $\mathcal{L}=3000$ fb$^{-1}$ collected at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV.
We consider the scenario of composite Higgs with partial compositeness to address the muon g-2 anomaly. We show that this anomaly is resolved by one-loop correction due to composite muon partners with mass scale of order TeVs and large Yukawa coupling to composite Higgs, which is different from interpretations of vectorlike lepton models. We present parameter space by imposing indirect constraints from precise measurements on Higgs, Z and oblique electroweak parameters. We analyze direct constraints in light of both Drell-Yan and Higgs-associated productions of the composite muon partners at h…
We match the electroweak chiral Lagrangian with two singlet scalars to the next-to-minimal composite Higgs model with $ SO(6)/SO(5) $ coset structure and extract the scalar divergences to one loop. Assuming the additional scalar to be heavy, we integrate it out and perform a matching to the well-established electroweak chiral Lagrangian with one light Higgs.
The unified compositeness of leptons, quarks and Higgs bosons is proposed as a possible scenario for New Physics beyond the Standard Model. The following topics of the scenario are briefly discussed: - Chiral gauge exceptional symmetry E_6 as a strong internal binding mechanism; - Higgs doublet as a composite Goldstone boson; - Nonlinear Standard Model as a prototype ``low energy'' effective field theory of the unified compositeness; - Hidden local symmetry and an improved ``low energy'' effective field theory of the unified compositeness; - Heavy composite vector bosons and vector boson domin…
We construct a class of two Higgs doublets models with a 4th sequential generation of fermions that may effectively accommodate the low energy characteristics and phenomenology of a dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking scenario which is triggered by the condensates of the 4th family fermions. In particular, we single out the heavy quarks by coupling the "heavier" Higgs doublet (Φ_h) which possesses a much larger VEV only to them while the "lighter" doublet (Φ_l) couples only to the light fermions. We study the constraints on these models from precision electroweak data as well as from flavo…
The leptonic branching fractions of the tau lepton are sensitive to anomalous charged current interactions. We use recent experimental measurements to determine the weak charged current magnetic and electric dipole moments and the Michel parameter $η$ with unprecedented precision. These results are then used to constrain the tau compositeness scale and the allowed parameter space for Higgs doublet models.
In the spirit of the Composite Standard Model (CSM) we look at the effect of $H$, $Z_L$ compositeness on $ZH$ production in gluon-gluon and photon-photon collisions. Because they would perturb the basic cancellations occuring in SM amplitudes, such compositeness effects would lead to spectacular modifications of the energy dependence of the amplitudes and cross sections. We illustrate this fact by introducing $H$, $Z_L$ test form factors and computing the corresponding differential cross section and the fraction of longitudinal $Z_L$ production.
The radial excitation of the global symmetry-breaking vacuum in composite Higgs models, called the "global Higgs", has been recently a focus of investigation. In this paper we study the prospects for detecting this composite scalar at the 13 TeV LHC. We compute the global Higgs production rates and estimate the discovery potential of a global Higgs decaying into top quark pairs and into Higgs and electroweak gauge bosons with subsequent hadronic decays. The global Higgs may also decay into fermion resonances such as top partners, providing a new window into compositeness. We show that top part…
The fundamental Higgs doublet may be replaced in the Standard Model by certain non-perturbative four-quark interactions, whose effect is to induce a composite Higgs sector responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. A simple composite two-Higgs-doublet model is presented. The four-quark interactions arise naturally if there are either extra spatial dimensions or larger gauge symmetries at a multi-TeV scale. Some theoretical and phenomenological implications of these scenarios are discussed.
We show how the $q^2$-dependence of the triple Higgs boson HHH form factor can reveal the presence of various types of new physics contributions, like new particles coupled to the Higgs boson or Higgs boson constituents, without directly observing them. We compare the effect of such new contributions to the one of higher order SM corrections to the point-like HHH coupling, due to triangle, 4-leg and s.e. diagrams. We establish simple analytic expressions describing accurately at high energy these SM corrections, as well as the examples of new physics contributions.
Flavour physics, from now up to the operation of the next high energy collider, will be an important tool for BSM searches at the TeV scale. Although far from exhaustive, a particularly relevant case is represented by the possibility that the Higgs be a composite Pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone-Boson (PNGB) at a scale $l_H=1/m_*$. While a totally model-independent assessment of the potential of flavour physics in this case is impossible, here we illustrate what is likely to be a minimal sensitivity on $m_*$ by considering suitable examples.\
Providing an Ultra-Violet completion valid up to the Planck scale is of paramount importance to validate the composite Higgs paradigm, at par with supersymmetry. We propose the first complete and feasible framework, based on partial unification of a confining hypercolor gauge group, where couplings of the standard model fermions are mediated by both gauge and scalar bosons. We demonstrate our approach by providing an explicit model based on a Techni-Pati-Salam unification, $SU(8)_{\rm PS}\times SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$, able to generate masses for all fermion generations, including neutrinos, vi…
We consider what occurs when we remove one of the compositeness conditions proposed by Bardeen, Hill and Lindner that leads to predictions for the top quark mass conflicting with the experimental value. Through this consideration the condition for the Higgs particle to be the composite particle is reconsidered. We show that in this case, (I) the Higgs-Yukawa system of the standard model becomes equivalent to a non-local four-fermi system at a high-energy scale $Λ$, (II) The Higgs-Yukawa sector of the model becomes useless above the scale because the vacuum state cannot be defined. We regard th…
Composite Higgs and neutral-naturalness models are popular scenarios in which the Higgs boson is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson, and naturalness problem is addressed by composite top partners. Since the standard model effective field theory (SMEFT) with dimension-six operators cannot fully retain the information of Higgs nonlinearity due to its PNGB nature, we systematically construct low energy Lagrangian in which the information of compositeness and Higgs nonlinearity are encoded in the form factors, the two-point functions in the top sector. We classify naturalness conditions in various sce…
We study the properties of heavy fermions in the vector-like representation of the electro-weak gauge group $SU(2)_W\times U(1)_Y$ with Yukawa couplings to the standard model (SM) Higgs boson. Using the renormalization group analysis, we discuss their effects on the vacuum stability and the triviality bound on the Higgs self-coupling, within the context of the standard model (i.e., the Higgs particle is elementary). Contrary to the low energy case where the decoupling theorem dictates their behavior, the inclusion of heavy fermions drastically change the SM structure at high scale. We also dis…
We study the consequences of combining SUSY with a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson Higgs coming from an SO(5)/SO(4) coset and partial compositeness. In particular, we focus on how electroweak symmetry breaking and the Higgs mass are reproduced in models where the symmetry SO(5) is linearly realized. The global symmetry forbids tree-level contributions to the Higgs potential coming from D-terms, differently from what happens in most of the SUSY little-Higgs constructions. While the stops are generally heavy, light fermion top partners below 1 TeV are predicted. In contrast to what happens in non-S…
Indirect search for color octet electron at Plasma Wake Field Accelerator- Linear Collider (PWFA-LC) has been considered. It is shown that color octet electron masses can be probed up to 17.7 TeV at PWFA-LC with three years integrated luminosity. In addition, the compositeness scale can be probed up to 38.5 TeV.
We construct UV completions of bottom-up models with a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone Boson (NGB) composite Higgs and partial compositeness, admitting a weakly coupled description of the composite sector. This is identified as the low energy description of an SO(N) supersymmetric gauge theory with matter fields in the fundamental of the group. The Higgs is a NGB associated to an SO(5)/SO(4) coset of a global symmetry group and is identified with certain components of matter fields in a Seiberg dual description of the theory. The Standard Model (SM) gauge fields are obtained by gauging a subgroup of th…
Within composite Higgs models based on the top seesaw mechanism, we show that the Higgs field can arise as the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson of the broken U(3)_L chiral symmetry associated with a vector-like quark and the t-b doublet. As a result, the lightest CP-even neutral state of the composite scalar sector is lighter than the top quark, and can be identified as the newly discovered Higgs boson. Constraints on weak isospin violation push the chiral symmetry breaking scale above a few TeV, implying that other composite scalars are probably too heavy to be probed at the LHC, but may be withi…
We assume that the Higgs doublet has a composite structure, respecting the main standard model properties, and therefore called Composite Standard Model (CSM), but leading (through Goldstone equivalence) to $Z_L$ and $W_L$ form factors. We illustrate how such a form factor affecting the $ZZ_LH$ coupling will be directly observable in $e^+e^-\to ZH$. We then show the spectacular consequences which would appear in the inclusive processes $e^+e^-\to Z_L+anything $. Such a form factor could also affect the $γW^+_LW^-_L$ and $Z W^+_LW^-_L$ vertices and we show what effects this would generate in $e…
In this talk, I will present the status of lepton flavor physics in composite Higgs models with partial compositeness in the light of recent data in the lepton sector. I will consider anarchic flavor setups, scenarios with flavor symmetries, and minimal incarnations of the see-saw mechanism that naturally predict non-negligible lepton compositeness. The focus will be on lepton flavor violating processes, dipole moments, and on probes of lepton flavor universality, all providing stringent tests of partial compositeness. The expected size of effects in the different approaches to lepton flavor a…
Motivated by the possibility that the right-handed top-quark (t_R) is composite, we discuss the effects of dimension-six operators on the Higgs boson production at the LHC. When t_R is the only composite particle among the Standard Model (SM) particles, the (V+A)\otimes (V+A) type four-top-quark contact interaction is expected to have the largest coefficient among the dimension-six operators, according to the Naive Dimensional Analysis (NDA). We find that, to lowest order in QCD and other SM interactions, the cross section of the SM Higgs boson production via gluon fusion does not receive corr…
We should be taking advantage of recent gains in our nonperturbative understanding of supersymmetric gauge theories to find the ``standard'' model of of dynamical supersymmetry breaking, and possibly of flavor as well. As an illustration of the possibilities for understanding the flavor hierarchy, I describe a realistic, renormalizable, supersymmetric model with a compositeness scale of $\sim 1-3$ TeV for the top quark, the left handed bottom quark, and the up-type Higgs. The top-Higgs Yukawa coupling is a dynamically generated strong interaction effect, and is naturally large, while the other…
In composite Higgs (CH) models, large mixings between the top quark and the new strongly interacting sector are required to generate its sizeable Yukawa coupling. Precise measurements involving top as well as left-handed bottom quarks therefore offer an interesting opportunity to probe such new physics scenarios. We study the impact of third-generation-quark pair production at future lepton colliders, translating prospective effective-field-theory sensitivities into the CH parameter space. Our results show that one can probe a significant fraction of the natural CH parameter space through the …
Supersymmetry and Compositeness are two prevalent paradigms providing both a solution to the hierarchy problem and a motivation for a light Higgs boson state. As the latter has now been found, its dynamics can hold the key to disentangle the two theories. An open door towards the solution is found in the context of 2-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs), which are necessary to Supersymmetry and natural within Compositeness in order to enable Electro-Weak Symmetry Breaking. We show how 2HDM spectra of masses and couplings accessible at the Large Hadron Collider may allow one to separate the two scenari…
As a first step towards a quantitative understanding of the SU(4)/Sp(4) composite Higgs model through lattice calculations, we discuss the low energy effective field theory resulting from the SU(4) $\to$ Sp(4) global symmetry breaking pattern. We then consider an Sp(4) gauge theory with two Dirac fermion flavours in the fundamental representation on a lattice, which provides a concrete example of the microscopic realisation of the SU(4)/Sp(4) composite Higgs model. For this system, we outline a programme of numerical simulations aiming at the determination of the low-energy constants of the ef…

Composite Higgs models, together with partial compositeness, predict the existence of new scalars and vector-like quarks (partners) at and above the TeV scale. Generically, the presence of these additional scalars opens up new decay topologies for the partners. In this paper we show how to systematically construct the general low energy Lagrangian to capture this feature. We emphasize the specific pattern in the top-partner spectrum arising in this class of models. We then present a concrete realization in the context of the SU(5)/SO(5) coset. We show that the top-partners in this model can ha…
We construct renormalizable Standard Model extensions, valid up to the Planck scale, that give a composite Higgs from a new fundamental strong force acting on fermions and scalars. Yukawa interactions of these particles with Standard Model fermions realize the partial compositeness scenario. Under certain assumptions on the dynamics of the scalars, successful models exist because gauge quantum numbers of Standard Model fermions admit a minimal enough 'square root'. Furthermore, right-handed SM fermions have an SU(2)$_R$-like structure, yielding a custodially-protected composite Higgs. Baryon a…
In recent times, one of the strongest hints of Physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) has been the anomaly in the ratios $R_D$ and $R_{D^\ast}$ measured in the charged current decays of $B$-mesons. In this work, we perform a comprehensive analysis of these decay modes, first in a model independent way and subsequently, in the context of composite Higgs models. We discuss in depth as to how linearly realised $\rm SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ symmetry imposes severe constraint on the various scenarios because of correlations with other $ΔF =1$ processes and $Z\,τ\,τ$ and $Z\,ν\,ν$ couplings. In the c…
Composite Higgs Models are often constructed including fermionic top partners with a mass around the TeV scale, with the top partners playing the role of stabilizing the Higgs potential and enforcing partial compositeness for the top quark. A class of models of this kind can be formulated in terms of fermionic strongly coupled gauge theories. A common feature they all share is the presence of specific additional scalar resonances, namely two neutral singlets and a colored octet, described by a simple effective Lagrangian. We study the phenomenology of these scalars, both in a model independent…
We study the sensitivity of the process $μ^-μ^+\to HH$ to the $q^2$-dependence of the $HHH$ form factor, which can reflect the Higgs boson structure, especially in the case of compositeness. We compute the Born and 1 loop SM contribution to this process. We then show how the $μ^-μ^+\to HH$ polarized and unpolarized cross sections are modified by the presence of various types of anomalous contributions to the $HHH$ form factor, in particular Higgs constituents in the case of compositeness.
Partial compositeness is a mechanism for the generation of fermion masses which replaces a direct Higgs coupling to the fermions by a linear mixing with heavy composite partners. We present the first calculation of the relevant matrix element in a lattice model which is very close to a candidate theory containing a composite Higgs boson and a partially composite top quark. Specifically, our model is an SU(4) gauge theory coupled to dynamical fermions in the fundamental and two-index antisymmetric (sextet) representations. The matrix element we obtain is small and hence our result disfavors the…
We discuss novel effects in the phenomenology of a light Higgs boson within the context of composite models. We show that large modifications may arise in the decay of a composite Nambu-Goldstone boson Higgs to a photon and a Z boson, h -> Z gamma. These can be generated by the exchange of massive composite states of a strong sector that breaks a left-right symmetry, which we show to be the sole symmetry structure responsible for governing the size of these new effects in the absence of Goldstone-breaking interactions. In this paper we consider corrections to the decay h -> Z gamma obtained ei…
Properties of extra weak bosons are discussed in a gauge model based on SU(2)_LXU(1)_YXSU(2)'_L. The physics of SU(2)'_L respects the duality in the Higgs and confining phases, where massive gauge bosons in the Higgs phase are equivalently represented by composite vector bosons in the confining phase below the scale of SU(2)'_L . interactions for SU(2)'_L-singlet composites induced in the confining phase can be generated by nonlinear interactions of the four Fermi type respecting SU(2)_LXU(1)_Y, which create quarks, q_i^A (A=r,g,b; i=1,2), leptons, l_i, vector bosons, V_mu^(a) (a=1,2,3) and th…

We illustrate the potential of a very high energy lepton collider (from 10 to 30 TeV center of mass energy) to explore new physics indirectly in the vector boson fusion double Higgs production process and in direct diboson production at high energy. Double Higgs production is found to be sensitive to the anomalous Higgs trilinear coupling at the percent level, and to the Higgs compositeness $ξ$ parameter at the per mille or sub-per mille level thanks to the measurement of the cross-section in the di-Higgs high invariant mass tail. High energy diboson (and tri-boson) production is sensitive to …
We investigate a recently proposed UV-complete composite Higgs scenario in the light of the first LHC runs. The model is based on a $SU(4)$ gauge group with global flavour symmetry breaking $SU(5) \to SO(5)$, giving rise to pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons in addition to the Higgs doublet. This includes a real and a complex electroweak triplet with exotic electric charges. Including these, as well as constraints on other exotic states, we show that LHC measurements are not yet sensitive enough to significantly constrain the model's low energy constants. The Higgs potential is described by two par…
If the Higgs boson is composite, signs of this compositeness should appear via a formfactor-like suppression of Higgs scattering cross sections at momentum transfers above the compositeness scale. We explore this by computing the cross section for e+e- ---> ZH (Higgsstrahlung) in a warped five-dimensional gauge-Higgs unification model known as the Minimal Composite Higgs Model (MCHM). We observe that the Higgsstrahlung cross section in the MCHM is strongly suppressed compared to that in the Standard Model at center-of-mass energies above the scale of the first Kaluza-Klein excitations, due to …
The Higgs associated production cross section at an $e^+ e^-$ collider is indirectly sensitive to the Higgs self-coupling, $h^3$, at next-to-leading order (NLO). Utilizing this, a new indirect method is proposed for constraining deviations in the self-coupling below the di-Higgs production threshold in certain models. Although this indirect constraint is model-dependent, making it valid only under specific assumptions, meaningful indirect constraints on the self-coupling may be realized. Specific realistic scenarios where the indirect constraint applies are discussed and in particular it is sh…
We show that the processes of $γb, Hb, Zb, W^-t$ production in gluon+bottom collision can give interesting informations about possible Higgs boson, top and bottom quark compositeness. We make illustrations of the ratios of new cross sections over standard ones. Specific energy dependences appear for each assumption about $b_L$, $b_R$, $t_L$, $t_R$ compositeness and CSM constraints concerning the Higgs sector.
We consider a theory with composite top quarks but an elementary Higgs boson. The hierarchy problem can be solved by supplementing TeV scale top compositeness with either supersymmetry or Higgs compositeness appearing at the multi-TeV scale. The Higgs boson couples to uncolored partons within the top quark. We study how this approach can give rise to a novel screening effect that suppresses production of the colored top partners at the LHC. Strong constraints arise from Z to bb, as well potentially from flavor physics. Independent of flavor considerations, current constraints imply a composite…
We discuss in detail the constraints on partial compositeness coming from flavour and CP violation in the leptonic sector. In a first part we present a formulation of partial compositeness in terms of a flavour symmetry group and a set of spurions, whose background values specify the symmetry breaking pattern. In such a framework we construct the complete set of dimension-six operators describing lepton flavour violation and CP violation. By exploiting the existing bounds, we derive limits on the compositeness scale in different scenarios, characterised by increasing restrictions on the spurio…
We scrutinize the recently further strengthened hints for new physics in semileptonic $B$-meson decays, focusing on the 'clean' ratios of branching fractions $R_K$ and $R_{K^\ast}$ and examining to which pattern of new effects they point to. We explore in particular the hardly considered, yet fully viable, option of new physics in the right-handed electron sector and demonstrate how a recently proposed framework of leptons in composite Higgs setups naturally solves both the $R_K$ and $R_{K^\ast}$ anomalies via a peculiar structure of new physics effects, predicted by minimality of the model an…
Composite Higgs models can be extended to the Planck scale by means of the partially unified partial compositeness (PUPC) framework. We present in detail the Techni-Pati-Salam model, based on a renormalizable gauge theory $SU(8)_{PS}\times SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$. We demonstrate that masses and mixings for all generations of standard model fermions can be obtained via partial compositeness at low energy, with four-fermion operators mediated by either heavy gauge bosons or scalars. The strong dynamics is predicted to be that of a confining $Sp(4)_{\rm HC}$ gauge group, with hyper-fermions in the…
In the framework of the unified compositeness of leptons, quarks and Higgs bosons, the hidden local symmetry \hat H_{loc}= SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y with the heavy composite vector bosons, in addition to the SM gauge bosons, is briefly described. Supplementary hypothesis of the vector boson dominance (VBD) of the SM gauge interactions is considered. It is argued that this should produce the universal dominant residual interactions of the SM composite particles, i.e., all of the fermions and Higgs bosons. Restrictions on the universal residual fermion-fermion, fermion-boson and boson-boson interacti…
In theories with no fundamental scalars, one gauge group can become strong at a large scale Lambda and spontaneously break a global symmetry, producing the Higgs and the axion as composite pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons. We show how KSVZ and DFSZ axion models can be naturally realised. The assumption Lambda around 10^{11} GeV is phenomenologically favoured because: a) The axion solves the QCD theta problem and provides the observed DM abundance; b) The observed Higgs mass is generated via RGE effects from a small Higgs quartic coupling at the compositeness scale, provided that the Higgs mass te…
The LHC has been built to understand the dynamics at the origin of the breaking of the electroweak symmetry. Weakly coupled models with a fundamental Higgs boson have focused most of the attention of the experimental searches. We will discuss here how to reinterpret these searches in the context of strongly coupled models where the Higgs boson emerges as a composite particle. In particular, we use LHC data to constrain the compositeness scale. We also briefly review the prospects to observe other bosonic and fermionic resonances of the strong sector.
In the framework of the Standard Model effective field theory, we examine the indirect constraints on the trilinear Higgs coupling $λ$ that arise from Higgs production in gluon-gluon-fusion and diphoton Higgs decays. We calculate 2-loop contributions to the $gg \to h$ and $h \to γγ$ amplitudes that are affected by modifications of the trilinear Higgs-boson vertex. This calculation involves both the computation of anomalous dimensions and finite matching corrections. Based on our new results, we analyse the sensitivity of present and future measurements of the $hgg$ and $h γγ$ couplings to shif…
In this work we study the indirect effects of squarks and gluinos via supersymmetric QCD radiative corrections in the decays of Higgs particles within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We consider a heavy supersymmetric spectrum and focus on the main nondecoupling effects. We propose a set of observables that are sensitive to these corrections and that will be accessible at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and Fermilab Tevatron. These observables are the ratios of Higgs boson branching ratios into quarks divided by the corresponding Higgs boson branching ratios into leptons, and both th…
Recently, the LHCb and CDF collaborations reported the measure of an unexpectedly large direct CP asymmetry in D meson decays. In this paper we ask if new physics associated with Partial Compositeness could plausibly explain this result. We find that Composite Higgs models with mass scale around 10 TeV can account for it, while marginally satisfying all other flavor constraints in the quark sector. The minimal framework is however inadequate in the lepton sector due to the strong constraint from μ to e γ. This tension can be efficiently alleviated by realizing Partial Compositeness within Supe…
We show that QCD instantons can generate large effects at small length scales in the ultraviolet in standard composite Higgs models that utilise partial compositeness. This has important implications for possible solutions of the strong CP problem in these models. First we show that in the simplest known UV completions of composite Higgs models, if an axion is also present, it can have a mass much larger than the usual QCD axion. Even more remarkable is the case where there are no axions, but the strong CP problem can be solved by generating the up quark mass entirely from the contribution of …
We show that in Composite Higgs models, the coupling of the Higgs resonance to a pair of $W$ bosons is weaker than the corresponding Standard Model coupling, provided the Higgs arises from electroweak doublets only. This is partly due to the effects of the nonlinear realization of the chiral symmetries at the compositeness scale.
We show that the presence of a lightish scalar resonance, $σ$, that mixes with the composite Goldstone-Higgs boson can relax the typical bounds found in this class of models. This mechanism, inbred in models with a walking dynamics above the condensation scale, allows for a low compositeness scale $f \gtrsim 400$ GeV, corresponding to a misalignment angle $\sinθ\lesssim 0.6$, contrary to the common lore of a smaller angle. According to recent lattice results, the light $σ$ emerges thanks to a near-conformal phase above the condensation scale, consistent to the requirements from flavour physics…
If the top quark is a composite state made out of some constituents, its interaction with the gluon will be modified. We introduce the leading effective operators that contribute to the radius and anomalous magnetic moment of the top quark and study their effect on the cross section for top anti-top production at the Tevatron and the LHC. Current measurements of the cross sections set a stringent limit on the scale of compositeness. This limit is comparable to similar limits obtained for light quarks and those from electroweak precision measurements. It can be used to constrain the parameter s…
