We analytically calculate the cumulant generating function of energy and particle transport in an open 1D Kitaev chain by utilizing the Keldysh technique. The joint distribution of particle and energy currents obeys different fluctuation relations in different regions of the parameter space as a result of $U$(1) symmetry breaking and energy conservation. We discuss the thermoelectricity of the Kitaev chain as a three terminal system and derive an analytical expression of the maximum work power. The response theory up to the second order is explicitly checked, and the result is consistent with the relations derived from the fluctuation relation.
Microreversibility rules the fluctuations of the currents flowing across open systems in nonequilibrium (or equilibrium) steady states. As a consequence, the statistical cumulants of the currents and their response coefficients at arbitrary orders in the deviations from equilibrium obey time-reversal symmetry relations. It is shown that these relations allow us to systematically reduce the amount of independent quantities that need to be measured experimentally or computed theoretically in order to fully characterize the linear and nonlinear transport properties of general open systems. This r…
Microreversibility constrains the fluctuations of the nonequilibrium currents that cross an open system. This can be seen from the so-called fluctuation relations, which are a direct consequence of microreversibility. Indeed, the latter are known to impose time-reversal symmetry relations on the statistical cumulants of the currents and their responses at arbitrary orders in the deviations from equilibrium. Remarkably, such relations have been recently analyzed by means of Euler's polynomials. Here we show that fluctuation relations can actually be explicitly written in terms of the constant t…
We present a stochastic approach for charge transport in transistors. In this approach, the electron and hole densities are governed by diffusion-reaction stochastic differential equations satisfying local detailed balance and the electric field is determined with the Poisson equation. The approach is consistent with the laws of electricity, thermodynamics, and microreversibility. In this way, the signal amplifying effect of transistors is verified under their working conditions. We also perform the full counting statistics of the two electric currents coupled together in transistors and we sh…
For open systems subjected to external magnetic fields, relations between the statistical cumulants of their fluctuating currents and their response coefficients are established at arbitrary orders in the deviations from equilibrium, as a consequence of microreversibility. These relations are systematically deduced from the extension of the fluctuation relation for this class of systems, and analyzed by using methods developed in [M. Barbier and P. Gaspard, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 51 (2018) 355001]. We unambiguously identify, among the statistical cumulants and their nonequilibrium responses,…
Multivariate fluctuation relations are established in three stochastic models of transistors, which are electronic devices with three ports and thus two coupled currents. In the first model, the transistor has no internal state variable and particle exchanges between the ports is described as a Markov jump process with constant rates. In the second model, the rates linearly depend on an internal random variable, representing the occupancy of the transistor by charge carriers. The third model has rates nonlinearly depending on the internal occupancy. For the first and second models, finite-time…
A nonequilibrium fluctuation theorem is established for a colloidal particle driven by an external force within the hydrodynamic theory of Brownian motion, describing hydrodynamic memory effects such as the t^(-3/2) power-law decay of the velocity autocorrelation function. The generalized Langevin equation is obtained for the general case of slip boundary conditions between the particle and the fluid. The Gaussian probability distributions for the particle to evolve in position-velocity space are deduced. It is proved that the joint probability distributions of forward and time-reversed paths …
Exchange fluctuation theorems (XFTs) describe a fundamental symmetry relation for particle and energy exchange between several systems. Here we study the XFTs of a Kitaev chain connected to two reservoirs in the same temperature but different bias. By varying the parameters in the Kitaev chain model, we calculate analytically the full counting statistics of the transport current and formulate the corresponding XFTs for multiple current components. We also demonstrate the XFTs with numerical results. We find that due to the presence of the U(1) symmetry breaking terms in the Hamiltonian of the …
We study numerically a bosonic analog of the Kitaev honeycomb model, which is a minimal model for $4d^4/5d^4$ quantum magnets with honeycomb lattice geometry. We construct its phase diagram by a combination of Landau theory analysis and quantum Monte Carlo simulations. In particular, we show that the phase boundaries between the paramagnetic state and magnetically ordered states are generically fluctuation-induced first order phase transitions. Our results are potentially applicable to Ru$^{4+}$- and Ir$^{5+}$-based honeycomb magnets.
We present a detailed quantitative analysis of spectral correlations in the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model. We find that the deviations from universal Random Matrix Theory (RMT) behavior are due to a small number of long-wavelength fluctuations from one realization of the ensemble to the next one. These modes can be parameterized effectively in terms of Q-Hermite orthogonal polynomials, the main contribution being the scale fluctuations for which we give a simple estimate. Our numerical results for $N=32$ show that only the lowest eight polynomials are needed to eliminate the nonuniversal part …
Frustrated quantum spin systems such as the Heisenberg and Kitaev models on various lattices, have been known to exhibit various exotic properties not only at zero temperature but also for finite temperatures. Inspired by the remarkable development of the quantum frustrated spin systems in recent years, we investigate the finite-temperature properties of the $S=1/2$ Kitaev-Heisenberg models on kagome and triangular lattices by means of finite-temperature Lanczos methods with improved accuracy. In both lattices, multiple peaks are confirmed in the specific heat. To find the origin of the multip…
Superconductivity results from an instability of the Fermi surface -- contour of \textit{poles} of the single particle propagator -- to an infinitesimally small attraction between electrons. Here, we instead discuss the analogous problem on a model \textit{Luttinger} surface, or contour of \textit{zeros} of the Green function. At zero temperature ($β\rightarrow \infty$) and a critical interaction strength ($u_{c\infty}$) characterized by the residue of self-energy pole, we find that the pair susceptibility diverges leading to a superconducting instability. We evaluate the pair fluctuation part…
We propose a closed form for the statistical distribution of non-interacting Majorana fermions at low temperature. Majorana particles often appear in the contemporary many-body literature in the Kitaev, Fu-Kane, or Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev models, where the Majorana condition of self-conjugacy immediately results in nonconserved particle number, non-trivial braiding statistics, and the absence of a noninteracting limit. We deviate from this description and instead consider a gas of noninteracting, spin-1/2 Majorana fermions that obey the spin-statistics theorem via imposing a condensed matter analog …
