Let $G=(V,E)$ be a strongly biconnected directed graph. In this paper we consider the problem of computing an edge subset $H \subseteq E$ of minimum size such that the directed subgraph $(V,H)$ is strongly biconnected.
A directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is strongly biconnected if $G$ is strongly connected and its underlying graph is biconnected. A strongly biconnected directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is called $2$-vertex-strongly biconnected if $|V|\geq 3$ and the induced subgraph on $V\setminus\left\lbrace w\right\rbrace $ is strongly biconnected for every vertex $w\in V$. In this paper we study the following problem. Given a $2$-vertex-strongly biconnected directed graph $G=(V,E)$, compute an edge subset $E^{2sb} \subseteq E$ of minimum size such that the subgraph $(V,E^{2sb})$ is $2$-vertex-strongly biconnected.
Wu and Grumbach introduced the concept of strongly biconnected directed graphs. A directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is called strongly biconnected if the directed graph $G$ is strongly connected and the underlying undirected graph of $G$ is biconnected. A strongly biconnected directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is said to be $2$- edge strongly biconnected if it has at least three vertices and the directed subgraph $(V,E\setminus\left\lbrace e\right\rbrace )$ is strongly biconnected for all $e \in E$. Let $G=(V,E)$ be a $2$-edge-strongly biconnected directed graph. In this paper we study the problem of computing a…
A directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is called strongly biconnected if $G$ is strongly connected and the underlying graph of $G$ is biconnected. This class of directed graphs was first introduced by Wu and Grumbach. Let $G=(V,E)$ be a strongly biconnected directed graph. An edge $e\in E$ is a b-bridge if the subgraph $G\setminus \left\lbrace e\right\rbrace =(V,E\setminus \left\lbrace e\right\rbrace) $ is not strongly biconnected. A vertex $w\in V$ is a b-articulation point if $G\setminus \left\lbrace w\right\rbrace$ is not strongly biconnected, where $G\setminus \left\lbrace w\right\rbrace$ is the subgr…
A directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is called strongly biconnected if $G$ is strongly connected and the underlying graph of $G$ is biconnected. A strongly biconnected component of a strongly connected graph $G=(V,E)$ is a maximal vertex subset $L\subseteq V$ such that the induced subgraph on $L$ is strongly biconnected. Let $G=(V,E)$ be a strongly biconnected directed graph. A $2$-edge-biconnected block in $G$ is a maximal vertex subset $U\subseteq V$ such that for any two distict vertices $v,w \in U$ and for each edge $b\in E$, the vertices $v,w$ are in the same strongly biconnected components of $G\s…
A strongly connected graph is strongly biconnected if after ignoring the direction of its edges we have an undirected graph with no articulation points. A 3-vertex strongly biconnected graph is a strongly biconnected digraph that has the property that deleting any two vertices in this graph leaves a strongly binconnected subgraph. Jaberi [11] presented approximation algorithms for minimum cardinality 2-vertex strongly biconnected directed subgraph problem. We will focus in this paper on polynomial time algorithms which we have implemented for producing spanning subgraphs that are 3-vertex stro…
Jaberi [7] presented approximation algorithms for the problem of computing a minimum size 2-vertex strongly biconnected subgraph in directed graphs. We have implemented approximation algorithms presented in [7] and we have tested the implementation on some graphs. The experimental results show that these algorithms work well in practice.
A directed graph G = (V,E) is singly connected if for any two vertices v, u of V, the directed graph G contains at most one simple path from v to u. In this paper, we study different algorithms to find a feasible but necessarily optimal solution to the following problem. Given a directed acyclic graph G = (V, E), find a subset H of E of minimum size such that the subgraph (V, E-H) is singly connected. Moreover, we prove that this problem can be solved in polynomial time for a special kind of directed graphs.
We study the directed maximum common edge subgraph problem (DMCES) for the class of directed graphs that are finite, weakly connected, oriented, and simple. We use DMCES to define a metric on partially ordered sets that can be represented as weakly connected directed acyclic graphs. While most existing metrics assume that the underlying sets of the partial order are identical, and only the relationships between elements can differ, the metric defined here allows the partially ordered sets to be different. The proof that there is a metric based on DMCES involves the extension of the concept of …
Given a directed graph $G$ and a list $(s_1,t_1),\dots,(s_d,t_d)$ of terminal pairs, the Directed Steiner Network problem asks for a minimum-cost subgraph of $G$ that contains a directed $s_i\to t_i$ path for every $1\le i \le k$. The special case Directed Steiner Tree (when we ask for paths from a root $r$ to terminals $t_1,\dots,t_d$) is known to be fixed-parameter tractable parameterized by the number of terminals, while the special case Strongly Connected Steiner Subgraph (when we ask for a path from every $t_i$ to every other $t_j$) is known to be W[1]-hard. We systematically explore the …
We investigate parameterized algorithms for the NP-hard problem Min-Power Asymmetric Connectivity (MinPAC) that has applications in wireless sensor networks. Given a directed arc-weighted graph, MinPAC asks for a strongly connected spanning subgraph minimizing the summed vertex costs. Here, the cost of each vertex is the weight of its heaviest outgoing arc in the chosen subgraph. We present linear-time algorithms for the cases where the number of strongly connected components in a so-called obligatory subgraph or the feedback edge number in the underlying undirected graph is constant. Compleme…
A directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is twinless strongly connected if it contains a strongly connected spanning subgraph without any pair of antiparallel (or twin) edges. The twinless strongly connected components (TSCCs) of a directed graph $G$ are its maximal twinless strongly connected subgraphs. These concepts have several diverse applications, such as the design of telecommunication networks and the structural stability of buildings. A vertex $v \in V$ is a twinless strong articulation point of $G$ if the deletion of $v$ increases the number of TSCCs of $G$. Here, we present the first linear-time …
Kimelfeld and Sagiv [Kimelfeld and Sagiv, PODS 2006], [Kimelfeld and Sagiv, Inf. Syst. 2008] pointed out the problem of enumerating $K$-fragments is of great importance in a keyword search on data graphs. In a graph-theoretic term, the problem corresponds to enumerating minimal Steiner trees in (directed) graphs. In this paper, we propose a linear-delay and polynomial-space algorithm for enumerating all minimal Steiner trees, improving on a previous result in [Kimelfeld and Sagiv, Inf. Syst. 2008]. Our enumeration algorithm can be extended to other Steiner problems, such as minimal Steiner for…
This paper proposes a new general technique for maximal subgraph enumeration which we call proximity search, whose aim is to design efficient enumeration algorithms for problems that could not be solved by existing frameworks. To support this claim and illustrate the technique we include output-polynomial algorithms for several problems for which output-polynomial algorithms were not known, including the enumeration of Maximal Bipartite Subgraphs, Maximal k-Degenerate Subgraphs (for bounded k), Maximal Induced Chordal Subgraphs, and Maximal Induced Trees. Using known techniques, such as revers…
