We study the linear differential system associated with the supersymmetric affine Toda field equations for affine Lie superalgebras, which has a purely odd simple root system. For an affine Lie algebra, the linear problem modified by conformal transformation leads to an ordinary differential equation (ODE) that provides the functional relations in the integrable models. This is known as the ODE/IM correspondence. For the affine Lie superalgebras, the linear equations modified by a superconformal transformation are shown to reduce to a couple of ODEs for each bosonic subalgebra. In particular, for $osp(2,2)^{(2)}$, the corresponding ODE becomes the second-order ODE with squared potential, which is related to the ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric minimal model via the ODE/IM correspondence. We also find ODEs for classical affine Lie superalgebras with purely odd simple root systems.
We study the two-dimensional affine Toda field equations for affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$ modified by a conformal transformation and the associated linear equations. In the conformal limit, the associated linear problem reduces to a (pseudo-)differential equation. For classical affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$, we obtain a (pseudo-)differential equation corresponding to the Bethe equations for the Langlands dual of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, which were found by Dorey et al. in study of the ODE/IM correspondence.
The massive ODE/IM correspondence is a relation between the linear problem associated with modified affine Toda field equations and two-dimensional massive integrable models. We study the massive ODE/IM correspondence for the $A_r^{(1)}$-type modified affine Toda field equations. Based on the $ψ$-system satisfied by the solutions of the linear problem, we derive the Bethe ansatz equations and determine the asymptotic behavior of the Q-functions for large value of the spectral parameter. We derive the non-linear integral equations for the Q-functions from the Bethe ansatz equations. We compute …
We study the massive ODE/IM correspondence for modified $B_2^{(1)}$ affine Toda field equation. Based on the $ψ$-system for the solutions of the associated linear problem, we obtain the Bethe ansatz equations. We also discuss the T-Q relations, the T-system and the Y-system, which are shown to be related to those of the $A_3/{\bf Z}_2$ integrable system. We consider the case that the solution of the linear problem has a monodromy around the origin, which imposes nontrivial boundary conditions for the T-/Y-system. The high-temperature limit of the T- and Y-system and their monodromy dependence …
We study the linear problem associated with modified affine Toda field equation for the Langlands dual $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}^\vee$, where $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$ is an untwisted affine Lie algebra. The connection coefficients for the asymptotic solutions of the linear problem are found to correspond to the $Q$-functions for $\mathfrak{g}$-type quantum integrable models. The $ψ$-system for the solutions associated with the fundamental representations of $\mathfrak{g}$ leads to Bethe ansatz equations associated with the affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$. We also study the $A^{(2)}_{2r}$ affine …
We study numerically the ODE/IM correspondence for untwisted affine Lie algebras associated with simple Lie algebras including exceptional type. We consider the linear problem obtained from the massless limit of that of the modified affine Toda field equation. We found that the Q-functions in integrable models are expressed as the inner product of the solution of the dual linear problem and the subdominant solution of the linear problem. Using Cheng's algorithm to obtain the solution of the linear problem, we can determine efficiently the zeros of the Q-function, which is known to provide the …
The concept of fusing rules for defects in a^(1)_r affine Toda field theories is introduced in the classical and quantum contexts. This idea is employed in finding a new transmission matrix for the a^(1)_3 theory which obeys the triangle relations and the crossing-unitarity relations.
Transmission matrices for two types of integrable defect are calculated explicitly, first by solving directly the nonlinear transmission Yang-Baxter equations, and second by solving a linear intertwining relation between a finite dimensional representation of the relevant Borel subalgebra of the quantum group underpinning the integrable quantum field theory and a particular infinite dimensional representation expressed in terms of sets of generalized `quantum' annihilation and creation operators. The principal examples analysed are based on the $a_2^{(2)}$ and $a_n^{(1)}$ affine Toda models bu…
An integrable system is introduced, which is a generalization of the $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ quantum affine Gaudin model. Among other things, the Hamiltonians are constructed and their spectrum is calculated within the ODE/IQFT approach. The model fits within the framework of Yang-Baxter integrability. This opens a way for the systematic quantization of a large class of integrable non-linear sigma models. There may also be some interest in terms of Condensed Matter applications, as the theory can be thought of as a multiparametric generalization of the Kondo model.
A folding process is applied to fused a^(1)_r defects to construct defects for the non-simply laced affine Toda field theories of c^(1)_n, d^(2)_n and a^(2)_2n at the classical level. Support for the hypothesis that these defects are integrable in the folded theories is provided by the observation that transmitted solitons retain their form. Further support is given by the demonstration that energy and momentum are conserved.
We show that any cyclically symmetric monopole is gauge equivalent to Nahm data given by Sutcliffe's ansatz, and so obtained from the affine Toda equations. Further the direction (the Ercolani-Sinha vector) and base point of the linearising flow in the Jacobian of the spectral curve associated to the Nahm equations arise as pull-backs of Toda data. A theorem of Accola and Fay then means that the theta-functions arising in the solution of the monopole problem reduce to the theta-functions of Toda.
Type II integrable defects with more than one degree of freedom at the defect are investigated. A condition on the form of the Lagrangian for such defects is found which ensures the existence of a conserved momentum in the presence of the defect. In addition it is shown that for any Lagrangian satisfying this condition, the defect equations of motion, when taken to hold everywhere, can be extended to give a Bäcklund transformation between the bulk theories on either side of the defect. This strongly suggests that such systems are integrable. Momentum conserving defects and Bäcklund transformat…
We study the ODE/IM correspondence for ODE associated to $\hat{\mathfrak g}$-valued connections, for a simply-laced Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$. We prove that subdominant solutions to the ODE defined in different fundamental representations satisfy a set of quadratic equations called $Ψ$-system. This allows us to show that the generalized spectral determinants satisfy the Bethe Ansatz equations.
The first part of this work consists of a study of the ODE/IM correspondence for simply-laced affine Toda field theories. It is a first step towards a full generalisation of the results of Lukyanov and Zamolodchikov on $\hat{\mathfrak a}_1$ to a general affine Lie-Kač-Moody algebra $\hat{\mathfrak g}$. In order to achieve our goal, we investigate the structure of evaluation representations of $\hat{\mathfrak g}$ and show how their tensor products are related by what we call projected isomorphisms. These isomorphisms are used to construct a set of quadratic functional relations, called $ψ$-syst…
The Liouville integrability of the generalised type II defects is investigated. Full integrability is not considered, only the existence of an infinite number of conserved quantities associated with a system containing a defect. For defects in affine Toda field theories (ATFTs) it is shown that momentum conservation is very likely to be a necessary condition for integrability. The defect Lax matrices which guarantee zero curvature, and so an infinite number of conserved quantities, are calculated for the momentum conserving Tzitzéica defect and the momentum conserving $D_4$ ATFT defect. Some a…
An affine Toda-Sutherland system is a quasi-exactly solvable multi-particle dynamics based on an affine simple root system. It is a `cross' between two well-known integrable multi-particle dynamics, an affine Toda molecule and a Sutherland system. Polynomials describing the equilibrium positions of affine Toda-Sutherland systems are determined for all affine simple root systems.
A cross between two well-known integrable multi-particle dynamics, an affine Toda molecule and a Sutherland system, is introduced for any affine root system. Though it is not completely integrable but partially integrable, or quasi exactly solvable, it inherits many remarkable properties from the parents. The equilibrium position is algebraic, i.e. proportional to the Weyl vector. The frequencies of small oscillations near equilibrium are proportional to the affine Toda masses, which are essential ingredients of the exact factorisable S-matrices of affine Toda field theories. Some lower lying …
Various features of the even order poles appearing in the S-matrices of simply-laced affine Toda field theories are analysed in some detail. In particular, the coefficients of first- and second-order singularities appearing in the Laurent expansion of the S-matrix around a general $2N^{\rm th}$ order pole are derived in a universal way using perturbation theory at one loop. We show how to cut loop diagrams contributing to the pole into particular products of tree-level graphs that depend on the on-shell geometry of the loop; in this way, we recover the coefficients of the Laurent expansion aro…
Elasticity property (i.e. no-particle creation) is used in the tree level scattering of scalar particles in 1+1 dimensions to construct the affine Toda field theory(ATFT) associated with root systems of groups $a_2^{(2)}$ and $c_2^{(1)}$. A general prescription is given for constructing ATFT (associated with rank two root systems) with two self conjugate scalar fields. It is conjectured that the same method could be used to obtain the other ATFT associated with higher rank root systems.
We use Hirota's method formulated as a recursive scheme to construct complete set of soliton solutions for the affine Toda field theory based on an arbitrary Lie algebra. Our solutions include a new class of solitons connected with two different type of degeneracies encountered in the Hirota's perturbation approach. We also derive an universal mass formula for all Hirota's solutions to the Affine Toda model valid for all underlying Lie groups. Embedding of the Affine Toda model in the Conformal Affine Toda model plays a crucial role in this analysis.
We give new formulations of the solutions of the field equations of the affine Toda and conformal affine Toda theories on a cylinder and two-dimensional Minkowski space-time. These solutions are parameterised in terms of initial data and the resulting covariant phase spaces are diffeomorphic to the Hamiltonian ones. We derive the fundamental Poisson brackets of the parameters of the solutions and give the general static solutions for the affine theory.
It is shown that all affine Toda theories admit (1,0) supersymmetric extensions. The construction is based on classical Lie algebras and supersymmetric massive sigma models. The supersymmetrized affine Toda theories have a unique, supersymmetric vacuum, their mass matrix is well defined and their energy functional is positive semi-definite.
A family of real Hamiltonian forms (RHF) for the special class of affine 1+1 - dimensional Toda field theories is constructed. Thus the method, proposed in [Mikhailov;1981] for systems with finite number of degrees of freedom is generalized to infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. We show that each of these RHF is related to a special Z_2-symmetry of the system of roots for the relevant Kac-Moody algebra. A number of explicit nontrivial examples of RHF of ATFT are presented.
We review some of the progress in affine Toda field theories in recent years, explain why known dualities cannot easily be extended, and make some suggestions for what should be sought instead.
The concept of point-like "jump" defects is investigated in the context of affine Toda field theories. The Hamiltonian formulation is employed for the analysis of the problem. The issue is also addressed when integrable boundary conditions ruled by the classical twisted Yangian are present. In both periodic and boundary cases explicit expressions of conserved quantities as well as the relevant Lax pairs and sewing conditions are extracted. It is also observed that in the case of the twisted Yangian the bulk behavior is not affected by the presence of the boundaries.
Using a contraction procedure, we obtain Toda theories and their structures, from affine Toda theories and their corresponding structures. By structures, we mean the equation of motion, the classical Lax pair, the boundary term for half line theories, and the quantum transfer matrix. The Lax pair and the transfer matrix so obtained, depend nontrivially on the spectral parameter.
The construction of a family of real Hamiltonian forms (RHF) for the special class of affine 1+1-dimensional Toda field theories (ATFT) is reported. Thus the method, proposed in [1] for systems with finite number of degrees of freedom is generalized to infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. The construction method is illustrated on the explicit nontrivial example of RHF of ATFT related to the exceptional algebras E_6 and E_7. The involutions of the local integrals of motion are proved by means of the classical R-matrix approach.
We present a complete set of conjectures for the exact boundary reflection matrix for $ade$ affine Toda field theory defined on a half line with the Neumann boundary condition.
We quantise the reduced theory obtained by substituting the soliton solutions of affine Toda theory into its symplectic form. The semi-classical S-matrix is found to involve the classical Euler dilogarithm.
We provide a proof of a formula conjectured in \cite{OU93} for some coefficients relevant in the principal vertex operator construction of a simply-laced affine algebra $\gh$. These coefficients are important for the study of the topological charges of the solitons of affine Toda theories, and the construction of representations of non-simply-laced $\gh$ and their associated Toda solitons.
It is shown that the Affine Toda models (AT) constitute a ``gauge fixed'' version of the Conformal Affine Toda model (CAT). This result enables one to map every solution of the AT models into an infinite number of solutions of the corresponding CAT models, each one associated to a point of the orbit of the conformal group. The Hirota's $τ$-function are introduced and soliton solutions for the AT and CAT models associated to $\hat {SL}(r+1)$ and $\hat {SP}(r)$ are constructed.
We provide explicit realizations for the operators which when exchanged give rise to the scattering matrix. For affine Toda field theory we present two alternative constructions, one related to a free bosonic theory and the other formally to the quantum affine Heisenberg algebra of $U_q(\hat{Sl_2})$.
The first quantum mass corrections for the solitons of complex $sl(n)$ affine Toda field theory are calculated. The corrections are real and preserve the classical mass ratios. The formalism also proves that the solitons are classically stable.
The affine Toda field theory is studied as a 2+1-dimensional system. The third dimension appears as the discrete space dimension, corresponding to the simple roots in the $A_N$ affine root system, enumerated according to the cyclic order on the $A_N$ affine Dynkin diagram. We show that there exists a natural discretization of the affine Toda theory, where the equations of motion are invariant with respect to permutations of all discrete coordinates. The discrete evolution operator is constructed explicitly. The thermodynamic Bethe ansatz of the affine Toda system is studied in the limit $L,N\t…
A general construction of affine Non Abelian Toda models in terms of gauged two loop WZNW model is discussed. In particular we find the Lie algebraic condition defining a subclass of {\it T-selfdual torsionless NA Toda models} and their zero curvature representation.
We calculate the quantum mass corrections to the solitons in the C_2^(1) Affine Toda field theory. We find that the ratio of the masses of the two solitons is not constant.
Using Hirota's method, solitons are constructed for affine Toda field theories based on the simply-laced affine algebras. By considering automorphisms of the simply-laced Dynkin diagrams, solutions to the remaining algebras, twisted as well as untwisted, are deduced.
The spectra of $A_r$ affine Toda field theories with imaginary coupling constant, are investigated. Soliton solutions are found, which, despite the non-unitary form of the Lagrangian, have real classical masses and are stable to small perturbations. The quantum corrections to the soliton masses are determined, to lowest order in $\hbar$. The solitons have the same spectrum as the fundamental Toda particles; a feature that is preserved in the quantum theory.
We couple two copies of the supersymmetric mKdV hierarchy by means of the algebraic dressing technique. This allows to deduce the whole set of $(N,N)$ supersymmetry transformations of the relativistic sector of the extended mKdV hierarchy and to interpret them as fermionic symmetry flows. The construction is based on an extended Riemann-Hilbert problem for affine Kac-Moody superalgebras with a half-integer gradation. A generalized set of relativistic-like fermionic local current identities is introduced and it is shown that the simplest one, corresponding to the lowest isospectral times $t_{\p…
We restrict affine Toda field theory to the half-line by imposing certain boundary conditions at $x=0$. The resulting theory possesses the same spectrum of solitons and breathers as affine Toda theory on the whole line. The classical solutions describing the reflection of these particles off the boundary are obtained from those on the whole line by a kind of method of mirror images. Depending on the boundary condition chosen, the mirror must be placed either at, in front, or behind the boundary. We observe that incoming solitons are converted into outgoing antisolitons during reflection. Neuma…
Vacuum expectation values of local fields for all dual pairs of non-simply laced affine Toda field theories recently proposed are checked against perturbative analysis. The computations based on Feynman diagram expansion are performed upto two-loops. Agreement is obtained.
We reexamine the $W_{\infty}$ symmetry of the $sl(N)$ Conformal Affine Toda theories. It is shown that it is possible to reduce (nonuniquely) the zero curvature equation to a Lax equation for a first order pseudodifferential oprator, whose coefficients are the generators of the $W_{\infty}$ algebra. This clarifies the known relation between the Conformal Affine Toda theories and the KP hierarchy. A possible correspondence between the matrix models and the Conformal Affine Toda models is discussed.
In this talk some classical and quantum aspects concerning a special kind of integrable defect - called a jump-defect - will be reviewed. In particular, recent results obtained in an attempt to incorporate this defect in the affine Toda field theories, in addition to the sine-Gordon model, will be presented.
Classical integrability is investigated for affine Toda field theories in the presence of a constant background tensor field. This leads to a further set of discrete possibilities for integrable boundary conditions depending upon the time-derivative of the fields at the boundary but containing no free parameters other than the bulk coupling constant.
We study the conserved charges of affine Toda field theories by making use of the conformally invariant extension of these theories. We compute the values of all charges for the single soliton solutions, and show that these are related to eigenvectors of the Cartan matrix of the finite-dimensional Lie algebra underlying the theory.
An exact S-matrix is conjectured for the imaginary coupled d_4(3) affine Toda field theory, using the U_q(g_2(1)) symmetry. It is shown that this S-matrix is consistent with the results for the case of real coupling using the breather-particle correspondence. For q a root of unity it is argued that the theory can be restricted to yield Phi(11|14) perturbations of WA_2 minimal models and the restriction is performed for the (3,p') minimal models.
We propose affine Toda field theories related to the non-crystallographic Coxeter groups H_2, H_3 and H_4. The classical mass spectrum, the classical three-point couplings and the one-loop corrections to the mass renormalisation are determined. The construction is carried out by means of a reduction procedure from crystallographic to non-crystallographic Coxeter groups. The embedding structure explains for various affine Toda field theories that their particles can be organised in pairs, such that their relative masses differ by the golden ratio.
Generalizations of the q-Onsager algebra are introduced and studied. In one of the simplest case and q=1, the algebra reduces to the one proposed by Uglov-Ivanov. In the general case and $q\neq 1$, an explicit algebra homomorphism associated with coideal subalgebras of quantum affine Lie algebras (simply and non-simply laced) is exhibited. Boundary (soliton non-preserving) integrable quantum Toda field theories are then considered in light of these results. For the first time, all defining relations for the underlying non-Abelian symmetry algebra are explicitely obtained. As a consequence, bas…
In this talk we report some results about the construction of soliton solutions for the Affine and Conformal Affine Toda models using the Hirota's method. We obtain new classes of solitons connected to the degeneracies of the Cartan matrix eigenvalues as well as to some particular features of the recursive scheme developed here. We obtain an universal mass formula for all those solitons. The examples of $SU(6)$ and $Sp(3)$ are discussed in some detail. ( Talk presented at the VII J.A. Swieca Summer School, Section: Particles and Fields, Campos do Jordão - Brasil - January/93)
The reflection amplitudes in non-affine Toda theories which possess extended conformal symmetry are calculated. Considering affine Toda theories as perturbed non-affine Toda theories and using reflection relations which relate different fields with the same conformal dimension, we deduce the vacuum expectation values of local fields for all dual pairs of non-simply laced affine Toda field theories. As an application, we calculate the leading term in the short and long distance predictions of the two-point correlation functions in the massive phase of two coupled minimal models. The central cha…
We present a systematic derivation for a general formula for the n-point coupling constant valid for affine Toda theories related to any simple Lie algebra {\bf g}. All n-point couplings with $n \geq 4$ are completely determined in terms of the masses and the three-point couplings. A general fusing rule, formulated in the root space of the Lie algebra, is derived for all n-point couplings.
We give a construction which produces a positive energy representation of the affine Lie algebra of type A_n from the Stokes data of a solution of the tt*-Toda equations of type A_n. The construction appears to play a role in conformal field theory. We illustrate this with several examples: the fusion ring, W-algebra minimal models (Argyres-Douglas theory), as well as topological-antitopological fusion itself. (Minor typographical changes for this version.)
New single soliton solutions to the affine Toda field theories are constructed, exhibiting previously unobserved topological charges. This goes some of the way in filling the weights of the fundamental representations, but nevertheless holes in the representations remain. We use the group doublecross product form of the inverse scattering method, and restrict ourselves to the rank one solutions.
