Videos typically record the streaming and continuous visual data as discrete consecutive frames. Since the storage cost is expensive for videos of high fidelity, most of them are stored in a relatively low resolution and frame rate. Recent works of Space-Time Video Super-Resolution (STVSR) are developed to incorporate temporal interpolation and spatial super-resolution in a unified framework. However, most of them only support a fixed up-sampling scale, which limits their flexibility and applications. In this work, instead of following the discrete representations, we propose Video Implicit Neural Representation (VideoINR), and we show its applications for STVSR. The learned implicit neural representation can be decoded to videos of arbitrary spatial resolution and frame rate. We show that VideoINR achieves competitive performances with state-of-the-art STVSR methods on common up-sampling scales and significantly outperforms prior works on continuous and out-of-training-distribution scales. Is the center position fully capable of representing a pixel? There is nothing wrong to represent pixels with their centers in a discrete image representation, but it makes more sense to consider each pixel as the aggregation of signals from a local area in an image super-resolution (SR) context. Despite the great capability of coordinate-based implicit representation in the field of arbitrary-scale image SR, this area's nature of pixels is not fully considered. To this end, we propose integrated positional encoding (IPE), extending traditional positional encoding by aggregating frequency info…

4D flow MRI is a non-invasive imaging method that can measure blood flow velocities over time. However, the velocity fields detected by this technique have limitations due to low resolution and measurement noise. Coordinate-based neural networks have been researched to improve accuracy, with SIRENs being suitable for super-resolution tasks. Our study investigates SIRENs for time-varying 3-directional velocity fields measured in the aorta by 4D flow MRI, achieving denoising and super-resolution. We trained our method on voxel coordinates and benchmarked our approach using synthetic measurements…

Image representation is critical for many visual tasks. Instead of representing images discretely with 2D arrays of pixels, a recent study, namely local implicit image function (LIIF), denotes images as a continuous function where pixel values are expansion by using the corresponding coordinates as inputs. Due to its continuous nature, LIIF can be adopted for arbitrary-scale image super-resolution tasks, resulting in a single effective and efficient model for various up-scaling factors. However, LIIF often suffers from structural distortions and ringing artifacts around edges, mostly because a…

Single-image super-resolution (SISR) is a canonical problem with diverse applications. Leading methods like SRGAN produce images that contain various artifacts, such as high-frequency noise, hallucinated colours and shape distortions, which adversely affect the realism of the result. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach based on an extension of the method of Implicit Maximum Likelihood Estimation (IMLE). We demonstrate greater effectiveness at noise reduction and preservation of the original colours and shapes, yielding more realistic super-resolved images.
The recent success of NeRF and other related implicit neural representation methods has opened a new path for continuous image representation, where pixel values no longer need to be looked up from stored discrete 2D arrays but can be inferred from neural network models on a continuous spatial domain. Although the recent work LIIF has demonstrated that such novel approaches can achieve good performance on the arbitrary-scale super-resolution task, their upscaled images frequently show structural distortion due to the inaccurate prediction of high-frequency textures. In this work, we propose Ul…
Guided depth super-resolution is a practical task where a low-resolution and noisy input depth map is restored to a high-resolution version, with the help of a high-resolution RGB guide image. Existing methods usually view this task as a generalized guided filtering problem that relies on designing explicit filters and objective functions, or a dense regression problem that directly predicts the target image via deep neural networks. These methods suffer from either model capability or interpretability. Inspired by the recent progress in implicit neural representation, we propose to formulate …
Hyperspectral image (HSI) super-resolution without additional auxiliary image remains a constant challenge due to its high-dimensional spectral patterns, where learning an effective spatial and spectral representation is a fundamental issue. Recently, Implicit Neural Representations (INRs) are making strides as a novel and effective representation, especially in the reconstruction task. Therefore, in this work, we propose a novel HSI reconstruction model based on INR which represents HSI by a continuous function mapping a spatial coordinate to its corresponding spectral radiance values. In par…

Implicit neural representation has recently shown a promising ability in representing images with arbitrary resolutions. In this paper, we present a Local Implicit Transformer (LIT), which integrates the attention mechanism and frequency encoding technique into a local implicit image function. We design a cross-scale local attention block to effectively aggregate local features. To further improve representative power, we propose a Cascaded LIT (CLIT) that exploits multi-scale features, along with a cumulative training strategy that gradually increases the upsampling scales during training. We…

The task of reconstructing detailed 3D human body models from images is interesting but challenging in computer vision due to the high freedom of human bodies. In order to tackle the problem, we propose a coarse-to-fine method to reconstruct a detailed 3D human body from multi-view images combining voxel super-resolution based on learning the implicit representation. Firstly, the coarse 3D models are estimated by learning an implicit representation based on multi-scale features which are extracted by multi-stage hourglass networks from the multi-view images. Then, taking the low resolution vox…
Magnetic resonance (MR) images collected in 2D clinical protocols typically have large inter-slice spacing, resulting in high in-plane resolution and reduced through-plane resolution. Super-resolution technique can enhance the through-plane resolution of MR images to facilitate downstream visualization and computer-aided diagnosis. However, most existing works train the super-resolution network at a fixed scaling factor, which is not friendly to clinical scenes of varying inter-slice spacing in MR scanning. Inspired by the recent progress in implicit neural representation, we propose a Spatial…

High Resolution (HR) medical images provide rich anatomical structure details to facilitate early and accurate diagnosis. In MRI, restricted by hardware capacity, scan time, and patient cooperation ability, isotropic 3D HR image acquisition typically requests long scan time and, results in small spatial coverage and low SNR. Recent studies showed that, with deep convolutional neural networks, isotropic HR MR images could be recovered from low-resolution (LR) input via single image super-resolution (SISR) algorithms. However, most existing SISR methods tend to approach a scale-specific projecti…

Nowadays, there is an explosive growth of screen contents due to the wide application of screen sharing, remote cooperation, and online education. To match the limited terminal bandwidth, high-resolution (HR) screen contents may be downsampled and compressed. At the receiver side, the super-resolution (SR) of low-resolution (LR) screen content images (SCIs) is highly demanded by the HR display or by the users to zoom in for detail observation. However, image SR methods mostly designed for natural images do not generalize well for SCIs due to the very different image characteristics as well as …
In this paper, we introduce a novel implicit neural network for the task of single image super-resolution at arbitrary scale factors. To do this, we represent an image as a decoding function that maps locations in the image along with their associated features to their reciprocal pixel attributes. Since the pixel locations are continuous in this representation, our method can refer to any location in an image of varying resolution. To retrieve an image of a particular resolution, we apply a decoding function to a grid of locations each of which refers to the center of a pixel in the output ima…

Video super-resolution aims at generating a high-resolution video from its low-resolution counterpart. With the rapid rise of deep learning, many recently proposed video super-resolution methods use convolutional neural networks in conjunction with explicit motion compensation to capitalize on statistical dependencies within and across low-resolution frames. Two common issues of such methods are noteworthy. Firstly, the quality of the final reconstructed HR video is often very sensitive to the accuracy of motion estimation. Secondly, the warp grid needed for motion compensation, which is speci…

Event cameras sense the intensity changes asynchronously and produce event streams with high dynamic range and low latency. This has inspired research endeavors utilizing events to guide the challenging video superresolution (VSR) task. In this paper, we make the first attempt to address a novel problem of achieving VSR at random scales by taking advantages of the high temporal resolution property of events. This is hampered by the difficulties of representing the spatial-temporal information of events when guiding VSR. To this end, we propose a novel framework that incorporates the spatial-te…

Nowadays, online screen sharing and remote cooperation are becoming ubiquitous. However, the screen content may be downsampled and compressed during transmission, while it may be displayed on large screens or the users would zoom in for detail observation at the receiver side. Therefore, developing a strong and effective screen content image (SCI) super-resolution (SR) method is demanded. We observe that the weight-sharing upsampler (such as deconvolution or pixel shuffle) could be harmful to sharp and thin edges in SCIs, and the fixed scale upsampler makes it inflexible to fit screens with va…

Learning-based 3D reconstruction methods have shown impressive results. However, most methods require 3D supervision which is often hard to obtain for real-world datasets. Recently, several works have proposed differentiable rendering techniques to train reconstruction models from RGB images. Unfortunately, these approaches are currently restricted to voxel- and mesh-based representations, suffering from discretization or low resolution. In this work, we propose a differentiable rendering formulation for implicit shape and texture representations. Implicit representations have recently gained …
