In this work we introduce and study fractional measure theoretic elliptic operators on the torus and a new stochastic process named W-Brownian motion. We establish some regularity and spectral results related to the operators cited above, more precisely, we were able to provide sharp bounds for the growth rate of eigenvalues to an associated eigenvalue problem. Moreover, we show how the Cameron-Martin space associated to the W-Brownian motion relates to Sobolev spaces connected with the elliptic operators mentioned above. Finally applications of the theory developed on stochastic partial differential equations are given.
A regular elliptic boundary-value problem over a bounded domain with a smooth boundary is studied. We prove that the operator of this problem is a Fredholm one in the two-sided refined scale of the functional Hilbert spaces and generates a complete collection of isomorphisms. Elements of this scale are the isotropic spaces of Hormander-Volevich-Paneah and some its modifications. A priori estimate for the solution is established and its regularity is investigated.
We prove an abstract result ensuring that one-sided geometric control yields two-sided estimates for functions satisfying general conditions. Our findings resonate in the context of nonlinear elliptic problems, including supersolutions to fully nonlinear elliptic equations and functions in the De Giorgi class. Among the consequences of our abstract results are regularity estimates, and conditions for a continuous function to be in the class of viscosity solutions. We also prove that one-sided geometric control yields $L^pL^\infty$-estimates. It provides a converse to the implication in the De …
We investigate elliptic boundary-value problems with additional unknown functions on the boundary of a Euclidean domain. These problems were introduced by Lawruk. We prove that the operator corresponding to such a problem is bounded and Fredholm on two-sided refined scales built on the base of the isotropic Hörmander inner product spaces. The regularity of the distributions forming these spaces are characterized by a real number and an arbitrary function that varies slowly at infinity in the sense of Karamata. For the generalized solutions to the problem, we prove theorems on a priori estimate…
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n\geq 2$, be 1-sided NTA domain (aka uniform domain), i.e. a domain which satisfies interior Corkscrew and Harnack Chain conditions, and assume that $\partialΩ$ is $n$-dimensional Ahlfors-David regular. We characterize the rectifiability of $\partialΩ$ in terms of the absolute continuity of surface measure with respect to harmonic measure. We also show that these are equivalent to the fact that $\partialΩ$ can be covered $\mathcal{H}^n$-a.e. by a countable union of portions of boundaries of bounded chord-arc subdomains of $Ω$ and to the fact that $\partialΩ$ p…
Let $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n\ge 2$, be a 1-sided non-tangentially accessible domain (aka uniform domain), that is, $Ω$ satisfies the interior Corkscrew and Harnack chain conditions, which are respectively scale-invariant/quantitative versions of openness and path-connectedness. Let us assume also that $Ω$ satisfies the so-called capacity density condition, a quantitative version of the fact that all boundary points are Wiener regular. Consider $L_0 u=-\mathrm{div}(A_0\nabla u)$, $Lu=-\mathrm{div}(A\nabla u)$, two real (non-necessarily symmetric) uniformly elliptic operators in $Ω$, and w…
We generalize to the setting of 1-sided chord-arc domains, that is, to domains satisfying the interior Corkscrew and Harnack Chain conditions (these are respectively scale-invariant/quantitative versions of the openness and path-connectedness) and which have an Ahlfors regular boundary, a result of Kenig-Kirchheim-Pipher-Toro, in which Carleson measure estimates for bounded solutions of the equation $Lu=-{\rm div}(A\nabla u) = 0$ with $A$ being a real (not necessarily symmetric) uniformly elliptic matrix, imply that the corresponding elliptic measure belongs to the Muckenhoupt $A_\infty$ class…

Consider $L_0$ and $L$ two real symmetric divergence form elliptic operators and let $ω_{L_0}$, $ω_L$ be the associated elliptic measures. We show that if $ω_{L_0}\in A_\infty(σ)$, where $σ=H^n|_{\partialΩ}$, and $L$ is a perturbation of $L_0$ (in the sense that the discrepa…

The goal of this program is to find sufficient c…
In nice environments, such as Lipschitz or chord-arc domains, it is well-known that the solvability of the Dirichlet problem for an elliptic operator in $L^p$, for some finite $p$, is equivalent to the fact that the associated elliptic measure belongs to the Muckenhoupt class $A_\infty$. In turn, any of these conditions occurs if and only if the gradient of every bounded null solution satisfies a Carleson measure estimate. This has been recently extended to much rougher settings such as those of 1-sided chord-arc domains, that is, sets which are quantitatively open and connected with a boundar…
We extend in two directions the notion of perturbations of Carleson type for the Dirichlet problem associated to an elliptic real second-order divergence-form (possibly degenerate, not necessarily symmetric) elliptic operator. First, in addition to the classical perturbations of Carleson type, that we call additive Carleson perturbations, we introduce scalar-multiplicative and antisymmetric Carleson perturbations, which both allow non-trivial differences at the boundary. Second, we consider domains which admit an elliptic PDE in a broad sense: we count as examples the 1-sided NTA (a.k.a. unifo…
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n\ge 2$, be a 1-sided non-tangentially accessible domain (i.e., quantitatively open and path-connected) satisfiying the capacity density condition. Let $L_0 u=-\mathrm{div}(A_0 \nabla u)$, $Lu=-\mathrm{div}(A\nabla u)$ be two real uniformly elliptic operators in $Ω$, with $ω_{L_0}, ω_L$ the associated elliptic measures. We establish the equivalence between the following properties: (i) $ω_L \in A_{\infty}(ω_{L_0})$, (ii) $L$ is $L^p(ω_{L_0})$-solvable for some $p\in (1,\infty)$, (iii) bounded null solutions of $L$ satisfy Carleson measure estimates with respec…
We present a necessary and sufficient condition on nonnegative Radon measures $μ$ and $ν$ for the existence of a positive continuous solution of the Dirichlet problem for the sublinear elliptic equation $-Δu=μu^q+ν$ with prescribed nonnegative continuous boundary data in a general domain. Moreover, two-sided pointwise estimates of Brezis-Kamin type for positive bounded solutions and the uniqueness of a positive continuous $L^q$-solution are investigated.
We provide regularity results at the boundary for continuous viscosity solutions to nonconvex fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations and inequalities in Euclidian domains. We show that (i) any solution of two sided inequalities with Pucci extremal operators is $C^{1,α}$ on the boundary; (ii) the solution of the Dirichlet problem for fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations is $C^{2,α}$ on the boundary; (iii) corresponding asymptotic expansions hold. This is an extension to viscosity solutions of the classical Krylov estimates for smooth solutions.
We study a system of pseudodifferential equations that is elliptic in the sense of Petrovskii on a closed compact smooth manifold. We prove that the operator generated by the system is Fredholm one on a refined two-sided scale of the functional Hilbert spaces. Elements of this scale are the special isotropic spaces of Hörmander--Volevich--Paneah.
Parameter--elliptic pseudodifferential operators given on a closed smooth manifold are investigated on the extended Sobolev scale. This scale consists of all Hilbert spaces that are interpolation spaces with respect to the Hilbert Sobolev scale. We prove that these operators set isomorphisms between appropriate spaces of the scale provided the parameter is modulo large enough. For solutions to the corresponding parameter--elliptic equations, we establish two-sided a priori estimates, in which the constants are independent of the parameter.
In this work, we investigate the spectral problem $Au = λu$ where $A$ is a fractional elliptic operator involving left- and right-sided Riemann-Liouville derivatives. These operators are nonlocal and nonsymmetric, however, share certain classic elliptic properties. The eigenvalues correspond to the roots of a class of certain special functions. Compared with classic Sturm-Liouville problems, the most challenging part is to set up the framework for analyzing these nonlocal operators, which requires developing new tools. We prove the existence of the real eigenvalues, find the range for all poss…
In this paper we establish well posedness of the Neumann problem with boundary data in $L^2$ or the Sobolev space $\dot W^2_{-1}$, in the half space, for linear elliptic differential operators with coefficients that are constant in the vertical direction and in addition are self adjoint. This generalizes the well known well-posedness result of the second order case and is based on a higher order and one sided version of the classic Rellich identity, and is the first known well posedness result for a higher order operator with rough variable coefficients and boundary data in a Lebesgue or Sobol…
We investigate Lawruk elliptic boundary-value problems for homogeneous differential equations in a two-sided refined Sobolev scale. These problems contain additional unknown functions in the boundary conditions of arbitrary orders. The scale consists of inner-product Hörmander spaces whose orders of regularity are given by any real number and a function which varies slowly at infinity in the sense of Karamata. We establish theorems on the Fredholm property of the problems in the refined Sobolev scale and on local regularity and local a priori estimate (up to the boundary of the domain) of thei…
We investigate elliptic boundary-value problems for which the maximum of the orders of the boundary operators is equal to or greater than the order of the elliptic differential equation. We prove that the operator corresponding to an arbitrary problem of this kind is bounded and Fredholm between appropriate Hilbert spaces which form certain two-sided scales and are built on the base of isotropic Hörmander spaces. The differentiation order for these spaces is given by an arbitrary real number and positive function which varies slowly at infinity in the sense of Karamata. We establish a local a …

We consider divergence-form parabolic equation with measurable uniformly elliptic matrix and the vector field in a large class containing, in particular, the vector fields in $L^p$, $p>d$, as well as some vector fields that are not even in $L_{\rm loc}^{2+\varepsilon}$, $\varepsilon>0$. We establish Hölder continuity of the bounded soutions, sharp two-sided Gaussian bound on the heat kernel, Harnack inequality.
In this paper we find viscosity solutions to an elliptic system governed by two different operators (the Laplacian and the infinity Laplacian) using a probabilistic approach. We analyze a game that combines the Tug-of-War with Random Walks in two different boars. We show that these value functions converge uniformly to a viscosity solution of the elliptic system as the step size goes to zero. In addition, we show uniqueness for the elliptic system using pure PDE techniques.
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ ($N \geq 3$) be a $C^2$ bounded domain and $K \subset Ω$ be a compact, $C^2$ submanifold in $\mathbb{R}^N$ without boundary, of dimension $k$ with $0\leq k < N-2$. We consider the Schrödinger operator $L_μ= Δ+ μd_K^{-2}$ in $Ω\setminus K$, where $d_K(x) = \text{dist}(x,K)$. The optimal Hardy constant $H=(N-k-2)/2$ is deeply involved in the study of $-L_μ$. When $μ\leq H^2$, we establish sharp, two-sided estimates for Green kernel and Martin kernel of $-L_μ$. We use these estimates to prove the existence, uniqueness and a priori estimates of the solution to the bound…
On a doubling metric measure space endowed with a "carré du champ", we consider $L^p$ estimates $(G_p)$ of the gradient of the heat semigroup and scale-invariant $L^p$ Poincaré inequalities $(P_p)$. We show that the combination of $(G_p)$ and $(P_p)$ for $p\ge 2$ always implies two-sided Gaussian heat kernel bounds. The case $p=2$ is a famous theorem of Saloff-Coste, of which we give a shorter proof, without parabolic Moser iteration. We also give a more direct proof of the main result in \cite{HS}. This relies in particular on a new notion of $L^p$ Hölder regularity for a semigroup and on a c…
We survey the recent development of the DeGiorgi-Nash-Moser-Aronson type theory for a class of symmetric jump processes(or equivalently, a class of symmetric integro-differential operators). We focus on the sharp two-sided estimates for the transition density functions (or heat kernels) of the processes, a priori Holder estimate and parabolic Harnack inequalities for their parabolic functions. In contrast to the second order elliptic differential operator case, the methods to establish these properties for symmetric integro-differential operators are mainly probabilistic.
In this paper we find viscosity solutions to a coupled system composed by two equations, the first one is parabolic and driven by the infinity Laplacian while the second one is elliptic and involves the usual Laplacian. We prove that there is a two-player zero-sum game played in two different boards with different rules in each board (in the first one we play a Tug-of-War game taking the number of plays into consideration and in the second board we move at random) whose value functions converge uniformly to a viscosity solution to the PDE system.
For $d\geq 2$, we establish the existence and uniqueness of heat kernels for a large class of time-dependent second order diffusion operator with jumps, which is the sum of time-dependent of a second order elliptic differential operators non-divergence form and a non-local $α$-stable-type operator with bounded time-dependent coefficient. Moreover, we obtain sharp two-sided estimates, gradient estimate and fractional derivative estimate for the heat kernels under some mild conditions. Our approach is mainly analytic but also uses some probabilistic techniques.
We discuss the existence and non-existence of periodic in one variable and compactly supported in the other variables least energy solutions for equations with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity of the form: $-Δu=λu^p - u^q$ in $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$, where $ 0< q < p \leq 1$, $λ\in \mathbb{R}$. The approach is based on the Nehari manifold method supplemented by a one-sided constraint given through the functional of the suitable Pohozaev identity. The limit value of the parameter $λ$, where the approach is applicable, corresponds to the existence of periodic in one variable and compactly supported in the …
We look at estimates for the Green's function of time-fractional evolution equations of the form $D^ν_{0+*} u = Lu$, where $D^ν_{0+*}$ is a Caputo-type time-fractional derivative, depending on a Lévy kernel $ν$ with variable coefficients, which is comparable to $y^{-1-β}$ for $β\in (0, 1)$, and $L$ is an operator acting on the spatial variable. First, we obtain global two-sided estimates for the Green's function of $D^β_0 u = Lu$ in the case that $L$ is a second order elliptic operator in divergence form. Secondly, we obtain global upper bounds for the Green's function of $D^β_0 u=Ψ(-i\nabla)u…
James Serrin's fundamental contributions to the theory of quasilinear elliptic equations are well-known and widely appreciated. He also made less well-known contributions to the theory of quasilinear parabolic equations which we dicuss in this note. Jurgen Moser gave greatly simplified proofs of the De Giorgi-Nash regularity results for linear divergence structure elliptic and parabolic differential equations using an original iterative technique. Serrin extended Moser's techniques and applied them to the study of divergence structure quasilinear elliptic equations, and in collaboration with A…
In the present paper, we show that for an optimal class of elliptic operators with non-smooth coefficients on a 1-sided Chord-Arc domain, the boundary of the domain is uniformly rectifiable if and only if the Green function $G$ behaves like a distance function to the boundary, in the sense that $\Big|\frac{\nabla G(X)}{G(X)}-\frac{\nabla D(X)}{D(X)}\Big|^2D(X) dX$ is the density of a Carleson measure, where $D$ is a regularized distance adapted to the boundary of the domain. The main ingredient in our proof is a corona decomposition that is compatible with Tolsa's $α$-number of uniformly recti…
For $α\in (0,2)$ we study the null controllability of the parabolic operator $$Pu= u_t - (\vert x \vert ^αu_x)_x\qquad (1<x<1),$$ which degenerates at the interior point $x=0$, for locally distributed controls acting only one side of the origin (that is, on some interval $(a,b)$ with $0<a<b<1$). Our main results guarantees that $P$ is null controllable if and only if it is weakly degenerate, that is, $α\in (0,1)$. So, in order to steer the system to zero, one needs controls to act on both sides of the point of degeneracy in the strongly degenerate case $α\in [1,2)$. Our approach is based on sp…
