Deeply-inelastic scattering (DIS) stands to enter a golden age with the prospect of precision programs at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and Large Hadron-electron Collider (LHeC). While these programs will be of considerable importance to resolving longstanding issues in (non)perturbative QCD as well as hadronic and nuclear structure, they will also have valuable implications for a wider range of physics at the Energy and Intensity Frontiers, including at the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) and future $νA$ facilities. In this plenary contribution, we highlight a number of salient examples of the potential HEP impact from the complementary EIC and LHeC programs drawn from their respective Yellow Report and Whitepaper. Interested readers are encouraged to consult the extensive studies and literature from which these examples are taken for more detail.
The exclusive vector meson production in electron-ion collisions for the energies of the future colliders is investigated. We present predictions for the coherent and incoherent $ϕ$ and $J/ψ$ production in $eAu$ collisions considering the possible states of nucleon configurations in the nuclear wave function and taking into account of the non-linear corrections to the QCD dynamics. The cross sections and transverse momentum distributions are estimated assuming the energies of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC-$eh$). Our res…
Leading neutron (LN) production in $ep$ collisions at high energies is investigated using the color dipole formalism and taking into account saturation effects. We update the treatment of absorptive effects and estimate the impact of these effects on LN spectra in the kinematical range that will be probed by the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) and by the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC). We demonstrate that Feynman scaling, associated to saturation, is not violated by the inclusion of absorptive effects. Moreover, our results indicate that the LN spectrum is strongly suppressed at small photo…
We calculate cross sections for inclusive dijet photoproduction in electron-nucleus scattering in the kinematics of the future EIC and the possible LHeC, HE-LHeC, and the FCC using next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD and nCTEQ15 and EPPS16 nuclear parton density functions (nPDFs). We make predictions for distributions in the dijet average transverse momentum ${\bar p}_T$, the average rapidity $\barη$, the observed nuclear momentum fraction $x_A^{\rm obs}$, and the observed photon momentum fraction $x_γ^{\rm obs}$. Comparing the kinematic reaches of the four colliders, we find that an …
Based on the nonrelativistic QCD framework, we study the $Υ$ production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic electron-proton scattering (SIDIS) at HERA, EIC, and LHeC, with the main aim of assessing the viability of observing $Υ$ electroproduction at the three colliders. The color-octet (CO) contributions are found to have a crucial effect on both the integrated and differential cross sections, serving to further establish the significance of the CO mechanism. By setting the kinematic cuts to $p_{t,Υ}^{\star 2}>1~\textrm{GeV}^{2}$, $W>50$ GeV, $2<Q^2<100~\textrm{GeV}^2$, and $0.3<z<0.9$, only a fe…
In this paper we investigate the impact of the higher - twist effects, resummed by the non - linear approaches for the QCD dynamics, on the inclusive observables that will be measured in future electron - ion colliders. We assume a phenomenological model for the dipole - nucleus scattering amplitude which takes into account the non - linear corrections and estimate the contribution of the different twists for $F_2^A(x,Q^2)$, $F_L^A(x,Q^2)$ and $\partial F_2^A /\partial ln Q^2$ considering different values of the Bjorken - $x$ variable, photon virtuality $Q^2$ and atomic number $A$. A compariso…
Particle and nuclear physics are moving toward a new generation of experiments to stress-test the Standard Model (SM), search for novel degrees of freedom, and comprehensively map the internal structure of hadrons. Due to the complex nature of QCD and wide array of past, present, and possible future experiments, measurements taken at these next-generation facilities will inhabit an expansive space of high-energy data. Maximizing the impact of each future collider program will depend on identifying its place within this sprawling landscape. As an initial exploration, we use the recently-develop…
The exclusive production of vector mesons and photons in $ep$ collisions is investigated considering three phenomenological saturation models based on distinct assumptions for the treatment of the dipole - hadron scattering amplitude. The latest high precision HERA data for the reduced and vector meson cross sections are used to update the saturation model proposed by Marquet - Peschanski - Soyez (MPS), which predicts that the saturation model is dependent of the squared momentum transfer $t$. The MPS predictions for the photon virtuality, energy and $t$ - dependencies of the exclusive $ρ$, $J…
In this paper we study the electroproduction of open heavy flavor $D$- and $B$-mesons in the kinematics of future $ep$ colliders, such as the Electron Ion Collider (EIC), the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) and the Future Circular Collider (FCC-he). We study in detail the dependence of the cross-sections on multiplicity of co-produced hadrons, in view of its possible sensitivity to contributions from multipomeron contributions, and discuss different observables which might be used for its study. According to our theoretical expectations, in $ep$ collisions the multipomeron contributions …
Gluons inside unpolarized hadrons can be linearly polarized provided they have a nonzero transverse momentum. The simplest and theoretically safest way to probe this distribution of linearly polarized gluons is through cos(2 phi) asymmetries in heavy quark pair or dijet production in electron-hadron collisions. Future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) or Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) experiments are ideally suited for this purpose. Here we estimate the maximum asymmetries for EIC kinematics.
We study the diffractive jet production in electron-ion collisions in the kinematical region where the mass $M_X$ of the diffractive final state is larger than $Q^2$. Based on parton saturation framework predictions are done for the kinematics of future or possible $eA$ machines as the EIC, LHeC, HE-LHeC and FCC-eA. We analyze the differential cross section as a function of jet (gluon) transverse momentum and from the experimental point of view this observable could be used to extract the saturation scale as a function of $x_{I\!\!P}$.
Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) of relativistic ions are an important tool for studying photoproduction at high energies. Vector meson photoproduction is an important tool for nuclear structure measurements and other applications. A future electron-ion collider (EIC) will allow additional studies, using virtual photons with a wide range of $Q^2$. We propose a significant expansion of the UPC and EIC photoproduction physics programs to include charged final states which may be produced via Reggeon exchange. We consider two examples: $a_2^+(1320)$, which is a conventional $q\overline q$ meson…
Coherent exclusive vector meson electroproduction is a key physics channel at an electron-ion collider. It probes the gluon structure of nuclei over a wide range of $Q^2$, and can be used to measure nuclear shadowing and to search for gluon saturation and/or the colored glass condensate. In this paper, we present calculations of the kinematic distributions for a variety of exclusive vector meson final states: the $ρ$, $ϕ$, J/$ψ$, $ψ'$ and the $Υ$ states. The cross-sections for light and $c\overline c$ mesons are large, while $Υ$ states should be produced in moderate numbers at a medium energy …
In composite models with colored preons leptogluons (l_(8)) has a same status with leptoquarks, excited leptons and quarks etc. We analyze resonant production of color octet electron (e_(8)) at QCD Explorer stage of the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC). It is shown that the e_(8) discovery at the LHeC will simultaneously determine the compositeness scale.
In this contribution we report on the investigation of the photoproduction of W and Z bosons in the planned electron-proton/nucleus collider, the LHeC. The production cross sections and the number of events are provided and theoretical uncertainties are discussed. We also analyze the sensitivity of the LHeC experiment to physics beyond Standard Model by studying the role played by anomalous WWgamma coupling in the presented process.
In this work, we investigated resonant production of spin-3/2 color octet electron at the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC). Signal and background analysis have been performed and discovery, observation and exclusion limits are determined for spin 3/2 color octet electron masses. Reachable values of the compositeness scale are presented as a function of the spin-3/2 color octet electron masses.
The diquark exotics which couple to a pair of quarks are predicted by the Compositeness and Superstring inspired E_{6} model. We study the single production of scalar diquarks at LHeC based gamma p collider options. The background for three jet final states are examined through appropriate kinematical cuts. We discuss the possibility of measurements for the charges of scalar diquarks (qq and qq').
The potential of the LHeC, a future electron-proton collider, for precision Deep Inelastic Scattering measurements is reviewed with particular emphasis on the reduction of uncertainties on the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton. The interpretation of possible Beyond Standard Model (BSM) signals at the LHC is crucially dependent on precise knowledge of the predictions of the Standard Model (SM) and the uncertainties on PDFs are a limiting factor. The LHeC project, running in parallel with later stages of LHC running, would provide much improved precision on the PDFs as compared …
Deep Inelastic Scattering would be brought into the unexplored TeV regime by the the proposed Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN. Its rich physics program, includes both precision Standard Model measurements to complement LHC physics as well as studies of QCD in the high energy limit. The present proceeding reports on studies included in the updated LHeC Conceptual Design Report. We study the impact of LHeC simulated data on Parton Distribution Functions uncertainties. We also assess the LHeC potential to allow the determination of the strong coupling constant $α_{S}$, at per-mille level a…
The Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) project is the proposal to use the existing LHC proton/ion beams and construct a new electron beam line to perform high-energy electron-proton/ion collisions. In this talk, we consider some of the physics topics that could be studied in the electron-ion mode. In particular, we estimate how much the current nuclear parton distribution fits could be improved with the deeply inelastic scattering measurements at the LHeC by including pseudodata into a global analysis. In addition, we discuss briefly other topics that would help to better understand some as…
While charged lepton flavor violation (cLFV) with taus is often expected to be largest in many extensions of the Standard Model (SM), it is currently much less constrained than cLFV with electrons and muons. We study the sensitivity of the LHeC to $e$-$τ$ (and $e$-$μ$) conversion processes $p e^- \to τ^- + j$ (and $p e^- \to μ^- + j$) mediated by a $Z'$ with flavor-violating couplings to charged leptons in the $t$-channel. Compared to current tests at the LHC, where cLFV decays of the $Z'$ (produced in the s-channel) are searched for, the LHeC has sensitivity to much higher $Z'$ masses, up to …
In this work we investigate the photoproduction of massive gauge bosons, $W^{\pm}$ and $Z^0$, as part of relevant physics topics to be studied in the proposed electron-proton collider, the LHeC. The estimates for production cross sections and the number of events are presented. In addition, motivated by the intensive studies to test the deviations from the Standard Model at present and future colliders, we discuss the $W^{\pm}$ asymmetries and perform an analysis on the role played by anomalous $WWγ$ coupling.
The future Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) would enable collisions of an intense electron beam with either protons or heavy ions at the High Luminosity-Large Hadron Collider (HL- LHC). With a center of mass energy greater than a TeV and a high luminosity, the LHeC would be a new-generation collider for deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) and a significant facility for precise Higgs physics, complementing pp and electron-positron colliders. Anomalous hadronic decay signatures of the Higgs Boson, such as those into three or more partons, are challenging to detect at the LHC due to high backgro…
We study charm production in charged-current deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) using the xFitter framework. Recent results from the LHC have focused renewed attention on the determination of the strange-quark parton distribution function (PDF) and the DIS charm process provides important complementary constraints on this quantity. We examine the current PDF uncertainty, and use LHeC pseudodata to estimate the potential improvement from this proposed facility. As xFitter implements both fixed-flavor- and variable-flavor-number schemes, we can compare the impact of these different theoretical choi…
We study the possibility of the LHeC facility to disentangle different new physics contributions to the production of heavy sterile Majorana neutrinos in the lepton number violating channel $e^{-}p\rightarrow l_{j}^{+} + 3 jets$ ($l_j\equiv e ,μ$). This is done investigating the angular and polarization trails of effective operators with distinct Dirac-Lorentz structure contributing to the Majorana neutrino production, which parameterize new physics from a higher energy scale. We study an asymmetry in the angular distribution of the final anti-lepton and the initial electron polarization effec…
The discovery of Higgs boson plays a crucial role in understanding the electroweak symmetry breaking sector. From now on, solving the dynamics of this sector needs precision measurements of the couplings of the Higgs boson to the standard model particles. In this work, we investigate the constrains on the anomalous $HWW$ and $HWWγ$ couplings, described by the dimension-six operators in the effective Lagrangian, in a high energy envisaged ep collider which is called Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC). We obtained the 95 % confidence level limits on the couplings of anomalous $HWW$ and $HWWγ$…
The proposed Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) at CERN would bring Deep-Inelastic scattering into the unexplored TeV regime. The LHeC rich physics program, among other topics, includes both precision SM measurements to complement LHC physics as well as studies of QCD in the high energy limit. The present contribution reports on ongoing studies within the NNPDF framework towards the LHeC CDR. We study the impact of LHeC simulated data on PDF uncertainties, in particular the small-x gluon. We also assess the LHeC potential to disentangle between various scenarios of small-x QCD, including sa…
The potential of the LHeC, a future electron-proton collider, for precision Deep Inelastic Scattering measurements is reviewed with particular emphasis on the reduction of uncertainties on the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton and on the measurement of $α_s(M_Z)$. The interpretation of possible Beyond Standard Model (BSM) signals at the LHC is crucially dependent on precise knowledge of the predictions of the Standard Model (SM) and the uncertainties on PDFs and $α_s(M_Z) $are a limiting factor. The LHeC project, running in parallel with later stages of LHC running, would prov…
B-Physics anomalies have recently raised renewed interest in leptoquarks (LQ), predicted in several theoretical frameworks. Under simplifying but conservative assumptions, we show that the current limits from LHC searches together with the requirement to explain the observed value for $R_{D^{(*)}}$ constrain the $R_2$ leptoquark mass to be in the range of $800 \leq m_{R_2} \leq 1000$ GeV. We study the search for $R_2$ at the LHeC via its resonance in the $bτ$ final state by performing a cut-and-count analysis of the signal and the dominant Standard Model backgrounds. We find that the LHeC has …
We investigate the possibility of detecting Majorana neutrinos at the Large Hadron-electron Collider (LHeC), an electron-proton collision mode at CERN. We study the $l_j^{+} + 3 jets$ ($l_j\equiv e ,μ,τ$) final states which are, due to leptonic number violation, a clear signature for intermediate Majorana neutrino contributions. Such signals are not possible if the heavy neutrinos have Dirac nature. The interactions between Majorana neutrinos and the Standard Model (SM) particles are obtained from an effective lagrangian approach. We present our results for the total cross section as a functio…

As one category of vector boson fusion, photo-production is one important production mechanism at $e$-$p$ colliders. A future $e$-$p$ collider -- Large Hadron-electron Collider (LHeC) has been discussed as a "Higgs factory" candidate where the Higgs boson produced via weak boson fusion (WBF) at the LHeC plays an important role in precision measurement of Yukawa couplings. On the other hand, a measurement of photo-production of the Higgs boson, if possible, might be complementary to the measurement of Higgs to di-photon partial decay width $Γ({h\toγγ})$. In this paper, we study the possibility …
The precision measurement of the $WWγ$ vertex at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) at CERN is discussed in this paper. We propose to measure this vertex in the $e^{-} p\to e^{-}W^{\pm}j$ channel as a complement to the conventional charged current $ν_{e}γj$ channel. In addition to the cross section measurement, $χ^{2}$ method studies of angular variables provide powerful tools to probe the anomalous structure of triple gauge boson couplings. We study the distribution of the well-known azimuthal angle between the final state forward electron and jet in this vector-boson fusion (VB…
The future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) would allow collisions of an intense electron beam with protons or heavy ions at the High Luminosity-Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). Owing to a center of mass energy greater than a TeV and very high luminosity (~1 ab{-1}), the LHeC would not only be a new generation collider for deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) but also an important facility for precision Higgs physics, complementary to pp and e+ e- colliders. Previously, it has been found that uncertainties of 0.8% and 7.4% can be achieved on the Higgs boson coupling strength to b- and c-quarks …
Profiling the Higgs boson requires the study of its non-standard decay modes. In this work we discuss the prospects of the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) to detect scalar particles with masses $\gtrsim$ 10 GeV produced from decays of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson. These scalar particles decay mainly to bottom pairs, and in a vast portion of the allowed parameter space they acquire a macroscopic lifetime, hence giving rise to displaced hadronic vertices. The LHeC provides a very clean environment that allows for easy identification of these final states, in contrast to hadronic col…
We investigate charm production in charged-current deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) using the xFitter program. xFitter is an open-source software framework for the determination of PDFs and the analysis of QCD physics, and has been used for a variety of LHC studies. The study of charged current DIS charm production provides an important perspective on the strange quark PDF, s(x). We make use of the xFitter tools to study the present s(x) constraints, and then use LHeC pseudodata to infer how these might improve. Furthermore, as xFitter implements both Fixed Flavor and Variable Flavor number sch…
The possibility that the 125 GeV Higgs boson may decay into invisible non-standard-model (non-SM) particles is theoretically and phenomenologically intriguing. In this letter we investigate the sensitivity of the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) to an invisibly decaying Higgs, in its proposed high luminosity running mode. We focus on the neutral current Higgs production channel which offers more kinematical handles than its charged current counterpart. The signal contains one electron, one jet and large missing energy. With a cut-based parton level analysis, we estimate that if the $hZZ$ …
We propose the development and construction of a novel muon-ion collider (MuIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in the USA as an upgrade to succeed the electron-ion collider (EIC) that is scheduled to commence in the early 2030s, by a joint effort of the nuclear and particle physics communities. The BNL facility could accommodate a muon storage beam with an energy up to about 1~TeV with existing magnet technology. When collided with a 275~GeV hadron beam, the MuIC center-of-mass energy of about 1~TeV will extend the kinematic coverage of deep inelastic scattering physics at the EIC (wi…
We review a broad range of phenomena in diffraction in the context of hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus collisions and deep inelastic lepton-proton/nucleus scattering focusing on the interplay between the perturbative QCD and non-perturbative models. We discuss inclusive diffraction in DIS, phenomenology of dipole models, resummation and parton saturation at low $x$, hard diffractive production of vector mesons, inelastic diffraction in hadron-hadron scattering, formalism of color fluctuations, inclusive coherent and incoherent diffraction as well as soft and hard diffraction phenomena in hadron-h…
Once the existence of the Higgs boson is established at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the focus will be shifted toward understanding its couplings to other particles. A crucial aspect is the measurement of the bottom Yukawa coupling, which is challenging at the LHC. In this paper we study the use of forward jet tagging as a means to secure the observation and to significantly improve the purity of the Higgs boson signal in the H to bbar decay mode from deep inelastic electron-proton scattering at the LHC. We demonstrate that the requirement of forward jet tagging in charged current eve…
Predictions of the top-pair production cross section in electron-proton (ep) collisions at the future circular collider hadron-electron (FCC-he) and the large hadron electron collider (LHeC) in the leading order (LO) and the next-to-leading order (NLO) approximations in perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD) are presented. Numerical results for the top structure functions and the ratio of structure functions are computed at the renormalization scale $μ^{2}=Q^{2}+4m^{2}_{t}$ in the collinear generalized double asymptotic scaling (DAS) approach. These results are presented in terms of the eff…
The proposed electron-proton collider LHeC is a unique facility where electroweak interactions can be studied with a very high precision in a largely unexplored kinematic regime of spacelike momentum transfer. We have simulated inclusive neutral- and charged-current deep-inelastic lepton proton scattering cross section data at center-of-mass energies of 1.2 and 1.3 TeV including their systematic uncertainties. Based on simultaneous fits of electroweak physics parameters and parton distribution functions, we estimate the uncertainties of Standard Model parameters as well as a number of paramete…
An Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) would enable next-generation measurements of deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) on the deuteron with detection of a forward-moving nucleon (p, n) and measurement of its recoil momentum ("spectator tagging"). Such experiments offer full control of the nuclear configuration during the high-energy process and can be used for precision studies of the neutron's partonic structure and its spin dependence, nuclear modifications of partonic structure, and nuclear shadowing at small x. We review the theoretical description of spectator tagging at EIC energies (light-front nu…
A study of the top quark \emph{Flavour Changing Neutral Current} (FCNC) through $Z$-boson has been performed in the proposed future $e^-p$ collider for the energy, $E_{e(p)} = 60~(7000)$~GeV. We considered an effective theory where the anomalous FCNC couplings are of vector and tensor nature. The effect of these couplings is probed in the single top production along with the scattered electron. The polar angle $θ$ of the electrons coming out of the primary vertex in association with the top quark polarization asymmetries constructed from the angular distribution of the secondary lepton arising…
For the foreseeable future, the exploration of the high-energy frontier will be the domain of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Of particular significance will be its high-luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC), which will operate until the mid-2030s. In this endeavour, for the full exploitation of the HL-LHC physics potential an improved understanding of the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton is critical. The HL-LHC program would be uniquely complemented by the proposed Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), a high-energy lepton-proton and lepton-nucleus collider based at CERN. In this wo…
The inclusion of heavy neutral leptons (right-handed neutrinos) to the Standard Model (SM) particle content is one of the best motivated ways to account for the observed neutrino masses and flavor mixing. The modification of the charged and neutral currents from active-sterile mixing of the neutral leptons can provide novel signatures which can be tested at the future collider experiments. In this article, we explore the discovery prospect of a very heavy right handed neutrino to probe such extensions at the future collider experiments like Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) and liner colli…
