We determine $|V_{cb}|$ using the third-order perturbative series for the inclusive semileptonic $B$ decay width and for the masses of the bottomonium 1S states. We use the masses of $η_b(1S)$ and $Υ(1S)$ as short-distance masses and point out that there is a sizable difference of $|V_{cb}|$ between the two 1S mass schemes. This is the dominant error of our determination and stems from insufficiency to describe theoretically the observed mass splitting of the bottomonium 1S states. We also study the significance of the $\mathcal{O}(Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}}^2)$ non-perturbative effects in HQET with respect to the current perturbative accuracy. Our result $|V_{cb}|=0.0425 (11)$ is consistent with the PDG value determined from the inclusive decays and has a slightly larger error.
We consider the effects of quark masses to the perturbative thrust in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. In particular we show that perturbative power corrections resulting from non-zero quark masses considerably alters the size of the non-perturbative power corrections and consequently, significantly changes the fitted value of $α_s$.
The determination of the numerical value for the strong coupling constant from tau decays in perturbative QCD is briefly described. Main emphasis is made on the use of the renormalization scheme invariance of the theory for reducing uncertainties related to truncation of the series in the strong coupling constant. The analysis of the convergence of the series is presented and the possibility of the asymptotic growth at the NNNLO is discussed.
Collisional broadening in QCD plasmas leads to the emission of medium induced radiation, which governs the energy loss of highly energetic particles or jets. While recent studies have obtained non-perturbative contributions to the collisional broadening kernel $C(b_\bot)$ using lattice simulation of the dimensionally reduced long-distance effective theory of QCD, Electrostatic QCD (EQCD), so far all phenomenological calculations of jet quenching rely on perturbative determinations of the collisional broadening kernel. By matching the short-distance behavior of the lattice extracted EQCD broade…
We consider a method for determining the QCD strong coupling constant using fits of perturbative predictions for event shape averages to data collected at the LEP, PETRA, PEP and TRISTAN colliders. To obtain highest accuracy predictions we use a combination of perturbative ${\cal{O}}(α_{S}^{3})$ calculations and estimations of the ${\cal{O}}(α_{S}^{4})$ perturbative coefficients from data. We account for non-perturbative effects using modern Monte Carlo event generators and analytic hadronization models. The obtained results show that the total precision of the $α_{S}$ determination cannot be …
We investigate the relation between the E_gamma spectrum in B->X_s gamma decay and the P+ spectrum in semileptonic B->X_u l nu decay (P+ is the hadronic energy minus the absolute value of the hadronic three-momentum), which provides in principle the theoretically simplest determination of Vub from any of the "shape function regions" of B->X_u l nu spectra. We calculate analytically the P+ spectrum to order alpha_s^2 beta_0, and study its relation to the B->X_s gamma photon spectrum to eliminate the leading dependence on nonperturbative effects. We compare the result of fixed order perturbation…
We update determination of the $\overline{\rm MS}$ masses of the charm and bottom quarks, from comparisons of the masses of the charmonium and bottomonium $1S$ states with their perturbative predictions up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order in $\varepsilon$ expansion and using the $\overline{\rm MS}$ masses. Effects of non-zero charm-quark mass in the bottomonium masses are incorporated up to next-to-next-to-leading order. We obtain $\overline m_c=1246\pm 2 (d_3) \pm 4 (α_s) \pm 23 (\text{h.o.} )~{\rm MeV} $ and $\overline m_b=4197\pm 2 (d_3) \pm 6 (α_s) \pm 20 (\text{h.o.} )\pm 5 (m_c)~…
We present a compact analytic two-loop expression of the $SU(3)_f$ breaking effects on the ratio of the pseudoscalar decay constants $R_P \equiv f_{P_S}/f_P$ ($P \equiv D,B $), from which, we extract the precise values : $R_D = 1.15 \pm .04$, $R_B = 1.16 \pm .05 $, where the errors are mainly due to the uncalculated $α_s^2$-corrections. We also scan carefully the $M_c$ (resp. $M_b$) mass dependence of $f_D$ (resp. $f_B$) in view of precise measurements of the ``perturbative'' c and b pole quark masses from the future data of the decay constants $f_P$.
We present a new theoretical framework for the study of $B\to X_u \ell ν$ decays, which includes all known perturbative and non-perturbative contributions and a description of leading and subleading Fermi motion effects. The perturbative and non-perturbative regimes are separated by a ``hard'' Wilsonian cutoff $μ\sim 1$ GeV. We bring into focus some problems related to the high $q^2$ region and to Weak Annihilation effects. We provide estimates of the CKM parameter $|V_{ub}|$ using the described framework and discuss the related theoretical uncertainty.
The conventional series in powers of the coupling in perturbative QCD have zero radius of convergence and fail to reproduce the singularity of the QCD correlators like the Adler function at $α_s=0$. Using the technique of conformal mapping of the Borel plane, combined with the "softening" of the leading singularities, we define a set of new expansion functions that resemble the expanded correlator and share the same singularity at zero coupling. Several different conformal mappings and different ways of implementing the known nature of the first branch-points of the Adler function in the Borel…
We examine the possibility for precise determination of |V_{ts}| (and |V_{td}/V_{ts}|) from the exclusive decays, $B --> K \ell^+ \ell^-, B --> K^* \ell^+ \ell^-$ (and $B --> π\ell^+ \ell^-, B --> ρ\ell^+ \ell^-$). We show that the ratio |V_{ts}| can be extracted experimentally with a small theoretical uncertainty from hadronic form--factors, if we {\bf appropriately constrain} kinematical regions of $q^2$. We also give detailed analytical and numerical results on the differential decay width $dΓ(B --> K^* \ell^+ \ell^-)/dq^2$, and the ratios of integrated branching fractions, ${\cal B}(B --> …
We review the determination of the QED coupling at the Z pole, which is a crucial parameter for electroweak theory. We include recent e+e- -> hadron data from Novosibirsk and Beijing to re-evaluate alpha (M_Z^2). We find 1/alpha (M_Z^2) = 128.973 +/- 0.035 or 128.934 +/- 0.040 according, respectively, to whether inclusive or exclusive e+e- -> hadron data are used in the interval 1.4 < \sqrt{s} < 2.1 GeV. The error is mainly due to uncertainties in the data in the low energy region, \sqrt{s} < 2.5 GeV. We find that no advantage is obtained by analytic continuation of the dispersion relation int…
The total $τ$ hadronic width can be accurately calculated using analyticity and the operator product expansion. The theoretical analysis of this observable is updated to include all available perturbative and non-perturbative corrections. The experimental determination of $α_s(M_τ^2)$ and its actual uncertainties are discussed.
We present the first determination of the strong coupling constant from the three-jet rate in e+e- annihilation at LEP, based on a next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) perturbative QCD prediction. More precisely, we extract alpha_s by fitting perturbative QCD predictions at O(alpha_s^3) to data from the ALEPH experiment at LEP. Over a large range of the jet-resolution parameter ycut this observable is characterised by small non-perturbative corrections and an excellent stability under renormalisation scale variation. For the three-jet rate at ln(ycut) = -3.9 we find alpha_s(MZ) = 0.1175 +/- 0.…
The hadronic mass distribution in semileptonic B-meson decays can be used for extracting the charmless part and thus determining the |V_ub/V_cb| ratio. We take into account first-order perturbative as well as non-perturbative QCD corrections. The sensitivity to model assumptions is studied and an estimate of the remaining uncertainties is performed.
Leading order (in $α_s$) perturbative QCD and power ($1/m_b^2)$ corrections to the hadronic invariant mass and hadron energy spectra in the decay $B \to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$ are reviewed in the standard model using the heavy quark expansion technique (HQET). In particular, the first two hadronic moments $<S_H^n>$ and $<E_H^n>$, $n=1,2$, are presented working out their sensitivity on the HQET parameters $λ_1$ and $\barΛ$. Data from the forthcoming B facilities can be used to measure the short-distance contribution in $B \to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$ and determine the HQET parameters from the moments $<S…
We supply recently obtained results from lattice EQCD with the correct UV limit to construct the collisional broadening kernel $C(b_\perp)$ in a QCD plasma. We discuss the limiting behavior of $C(b_\perp)$ at small and large impact parameters $b_\perp$, and illustrate how the results can be used to compute medium-induced radiation rates.
We present a new determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{\rm cb}|$ by using the three-loop perturbative QCD corrections for the $B\to D^{\ast}$ semi-leptonic decay. The decay width of $B\to D^{\ast}$ semi-leptonic decay can be factorized as perturbatively calculable short-distance part and the non-perturbative but universal long-distance part. We adopt the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) single-scale setting approach to deal with the perturbative series so as to achieve a precise fixed-order prediction for the short-distance parameter $η_{A}$. By applying the…
The determination of quark masses from lattice QCD simulations requires a non-perturbative renormalization procedure and subsequent scale evolution to high energies, where a conversion to the commonly used MS-bar scheme can be safely established. We present our results for the non-perturbative running of renormalized quark masses in Nf=3 QCD between the electroweak and a hadronic energy scale, where lattice simulations are at our disposal. Recent theoretical advances in combination with well-established techniques allows to follow the scale evolution to very high statistical accuracy, and full…
We exploit a recent non-perturbative determination of the momentum broadening kernel $C(b_{\bot})$ in impact parameter space \cite{Moore:2021jwe}, to determine the momentum space broadening kernel $C(q_{\bot})$ in high-temperature QCD plasmas. We show how to use the non-pertubatively determined kernel $C(q_{\bot})$ to compute the medium-induced splitting rates in a QCD plasma of finite size. We compare the resulting in-medium splitting rates to the results obtained with leading-order and next-to-leading order perturbative determinations of $C(q_{\bot})$, as well as with various approximations …
We investigate the behaviour of the perturbative relation between the photon energy spectrum in B -> Xs gamma and the hadronic P+ spectrum in semileptonic B -> Xu l nu decay at high orders in perturbation theory in the "large-beta_0" limit, in which only terms of order alpha_s^n beta_0^(n-1) are retained. The leading renormalon in the weight function W(Delta,P_gamma) relating the two spectra is confirmed to be at u=1/2, corresponding to nonperturbative corrections at O(Lambda_QCD/m_b). We show that the P_gamma dependent pieces of the weight function have no infrared renormalons in this limit, …
We have calculated the perturbative corrections to all the structure functions in the semileptonic decays of a heavy quark. Assuming an arbitrary gluon mass as a technical tool allowed to obtain in parallel all the BLM corrections. We report the basic applications, viz. perturbative corrections to the hadronic mass and energy moments with full dependence on the charge lepton energy cut. In the adopted scheme with the OPE momentum scale separation around 1 GeV the perturbative corrections to <M_X^2> are small and practically independent of E_{cut}; the BLM corrections are small, too. The correc…
Hadronic tau decays offer the possibility of determining the strong coupling alpha_s at relatively low energy. Precisely for this reason, however, good control over the perturbative QCD corrections, the non-perturbative condensate contributions in the framework of the operator product expansion (OPE), as well as the corrections going beyond the OPE, the duality violations (DVs), is required. On the perturbative QCD side, the contour-improved versus fixed-order resummation of the series is still an issue, and will be discussed. Regarding the analysis, self-consistent fits to the data including …
We use heavy quark effective theory (HQET) and perturbative QCD to study the heavy meson -- light vector meson transitions involved in D and B decays. HQET is used to relate the measured D -> K* l nu vector and axial-vector form factors at four-momentum transfer q^2 = 0 to the B -> K* gamma tensor and axial-tensor form factors at q^2 = 16.5 GeV^2. Perturbative QCD is then used to find matching conditions for the B-meson form factors at q^2 = 0. A five parameter ``vector dominance'' type fit of the two HQET form factors, consisting of single pole, double pole, and subtraction terms, is used to …
We perform a global analysis of three-body charmless hadronic decays $B\to VP_3\to P_1P_2P_3$ in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach, where $V$ denotes an intermediate vector resonance, and $P_i$, $i=1,2,3$, denote final-state pseudoscalar mesons. Fitting the PQCD factorization formulas at leading order in the strong coupling $α_s$ to measured branching ratios and direct $CP$ asymmetries, we determine the Gegenbauer moments in the two-meson distribution amplitudes (DAs) for the meson pairs $P_1P_2=ππ, Kπ, KK$. The fitted Gegenbauer moments are then employed to make predictions for those obser…
We present a determination of the perturbative QCD (pQCD) coupling using the V+A channel ALEPH $τ$-decay data. The determination involves the double-pinched Borel-Laplace Sum Rules and Finite Energy Sum Rules. The theoretical basis is the Operator Product Expansion (OPE) of the V+A channel Adler function in which the higher order terms of the leading-twist part originate from a model based on the known structure of the leading renormalons of this quantity. The applied evaluation methods are contour-improved perturbation theory (CIPT), fixed-order perturbation theory (FOPT), and Principal Value…
We compute the $O(α_s)$ corrections to the Wilson coefficients of the dimension five operators in inclusive semileptonic $B$ decays in the limit of a massless final quark. Our calculation agrees with reparameterization invariance and with previous results for the total width and places constraints on the shape functions that enter those decays.
In the context of the dispersive model for non-perturbative corrections, we extend the leading renormalon subtraction to NNLO for the thrust distribution in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. Within this framework, using a NNLL+NNLO perturbative description and including bottom quark mass effects to NLO, we analyse data in the centre-of-mass energy range $\sqrt{s}=14-206$ GeV in view of a simultaneous determination of the strong coupling constant and the non-perturbative parameter $α_0$. The fits are performed by matching the resummed and fixed-order predictions both in the R and the log-R matching scheme…
The possibilities to determine the flavor structure of the polarized sea (antiquark) distributions of the nucleon via vector boson $(γ^*, W^{\pm}, Z^0)$ production at high energy polarized hadron--hadron colliders, such as the Relativistic Heavy--Ion Collider (RHIC), are studied in detail. In particular the perturbative stability of the expected asymmetries in two representative models for the (un)broken flavor structure are investigated by confronting perturbative QCD leading order predictions of the expected asymmetries with their next--to--leading order counterparts.
In this contribution we present an overview of recent results concerning the impact of a possible flavour dependence of the intrinsic quark transverse momentum on electroweak observables. In particular, we focus on the $q_T$ spectrum of electroweak gauge bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at the LHC and on the direct determination of the $W$ boson mass. We show that these effects are comparable in size to other non-perturbative effects commonly included in phenomenological analyses, and should thus be included in precise theoretical predictions for present and future hadron colliders.
We determine to order alpha^3 the so-called residual mass in the lattice regularisation of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory for Nf=2. Our (gauge-invariant) strategy makes use of Numerical Stochastic Perturbation Theory to compute the static interquark potential where the above mentioned mass term appears as an additive contribution. We discuss how the new coefficient we compute in the expansion of the residual mass can improve the determination of the (MS bar) mass of the b-quark from lattice simulations of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory.
In the present paper, we first give a detailed study on the pQCD corrections to the leading-twist part of BSR. Previous pQCD corrections to the leading-twist part derived under conventional scale-setting approach up to ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$-level still show strong renormalization scale dependence. The principle of maximum conformality (PMC) provides a systematic way to eliminate conventional renormalization scale-setting ambiguity by determining the accurate $α_s$-running behavior of the process with the help of renormalization group equation. Our calculation confirms the PMC prediction satisfies …
In the paper, we study the properties of the top-quark $\overline{\rm MS}$ running mass computed from its on-shell mass by using both the four-loop $\overline{\rm MS}$-on-shell relation and the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) scale-setting approach. The PMC adopts the renormalization group equation to set the correct magnitude of the strong running coupling of the perturbative series, its prediction avoids the conventional renormalization scale ambiguity, and thus a more precise pQCD prediction can be achieved. After applying the PMC to the four-loop $\overline{\rm MS}$-on-shell relati…
The constraint of a progressive decrease in residual renormalization scale dependence with increasing loop order is developed as a method for obtaining bounds on unknown higher-order perturbative corrections to renormalization-group invariant quantities. This technique is applied to the inclusive semileptonic process $b\to u \barν_\ell\ell^-$ (explicitly known to two-loop order) to obtain bounds on the three- and four-loop perturbative coefficients that are not accessible via the renormalization group. Using the principle of minimal sensitivity, an estimate is obtained for the perturbative con…
We study the effect of a right-handed coupling of quarks to the W-boson on the measurements of |V_ub| and |V_cb|. It is shown that such a coupling can remove the discrepancies between the determinations of |V_ub| from B\toπ\ellν, B^+\toτ^+ νand B\to X_u\ellν. Further the measurements of |V_cb| from B\to D^*\ellν, B\to D\ellνand inclusive B\to X_c\ellνdecays can be brought into better agreement. We demonstrate that a right-handed coupling can be generated within the MSSM by a finite gluino-squark loop. The effect involves the parameters δ^{u RL}_{23} and δ^{u RL}_{13} of the squark mass matrice…
The perturbative quark-mass corrections to the $τ$ hadronic width are analysed to $O(α_s^3 m_q^2)$, using the presently available theoretical information. The behaviour of the perturbative series is investigated in order to assess the associated uncertainties. The implications for the determination of the strange quark mass from $τ$ decay data are discussed.
I review recent developments in Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) that lead to an almost model--independent determination of the $|\Vcb|$ element of the Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa matrix from exclusive semileptonic $B\ra D^{(*)}$ decays. In particular, I compare the theoretical uncertainties in the $B\ra D^*\ell\,\barν$ and the $B\ra D\,\ell\,\barν$ decay modes. I discuss the applications of QCD sum rules within HQET to semileptonic heavy meson decays and give predictions for the form factors measurable in $B\ra D^{(*)}\ell\,\barν$ decays.
A new determination of the strange-quark mass is discussed, based on the two-point function involving the axial-vector current divergences. This Green function is known in perturbative QCD up to order O(alpha_s^3), and up to dimension-six in the non-perturbative domain. The hadronic spectral function is parametrized in terms of the kaon pole, followed by its two radial excitations, and normalized at threshold according to conventional chiral-symmetry. The result of a Laplace transform QCD sum rule analysis of this two-point function is: m_s(1 GeV^2) = 155 pm 25 MeV.
We propose a new non-perturbative method to compute derivatives of gauge coupling constants with respect to anisotropic lattice spacings (anisotropy coefficients), which are required in an evaluation of thermodynamic quantities from numerical simulations on the lattice. Our method is based on a precise measurement of the finite temperature deconfining transition curve in the lattice coupling parameter space extended to anisotropic lattices by applying the spectral density method. We test the method for the cases of SU(2) and SU(3) gauge theories at the deconfining transition point on lattices …
We utilize non-perturbative and fully relativistic methods to calculate the\thinspace \thinspace $ΔNγ$ electromagnetic transition amplitudes $G_{M}^{*}(q^{2})$ (related to the magnetic dipole moment $% M_{1^{+}}^{3/2}(q^{2})$), $G_{E}^{*}(q^{2})$ (related to the electric quadrupole moment $E_{1^{+}}^{3/2}(q^{2})$), the electromagnetic ratio $% R_{EM}(q^{2})\equiv -G_{E}^{*}(q^{2})/G_{M}^{*}(q^{2})=E_{1^{+}}^{3/2}(q^{2})/M_{1^{+}}^{3/2}(q^{2} ) $, and discuss their $q^{2}$ behavior in the $Δ(1232)$ mass region. These are very important quantities which arise in all viable quark, QCD, or perturb…
We compute the leading order (in $α_s$) perturbative QCD and power ($1/m_b^2)$ corrections to the hadronic invariant mass and hadron energy spectra in the decay $B \to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$ in standard model. This is done both by using the heavy quark expansion technique (HQET) and a perturbative-QCD improved Fermi motion (FM) model which takes into account $B$-meson wave-function effects. The corrections in the hadron energy ($E_H$) spectrum are found to be small over a good part of this spectrum in both the methods. However, the expansion in $1/m_b$ in HQET fails near the lower kinematic end-po…
We consider the exclusive $P_{\ell 4}$ decays, $P\to (P_1P_2)_V\ell ν_{\ell}$, where the subindex $V$ means that the invariant mass of the pseudoscalar pair is taken within a small window around the mass of the vector meson $V$. Pole contributions beyond the dominant $P\to V(\to P_1P_2)\ellν_{\ell}$ amplitude of $P_{\ell 4}$ decays are identified, which, in turn, affects the determination of the CKM matrix elements $|V_{qq'}|$. We evaluate the effects of those contributions in the extraction of bottom and charm quark mixings. An application to $B\to (ππ)_ρ\ell ν_{\ell}$ data from Belle collabo…
Methods for measuring the W-boson properties at hadron colliders are discussed. It is demonstrated that the ratio between the W- and Z-boson observables can be reliably calculated using perturbative QCD, even when the individual W- and Z-boson observables are not. Hence, by using a measured Z-boson observable and the perturbative calculation of the ratio of the W- over Z-boson observable, we can accurately predict the W-boson observable. The use of the ratio reduces both the experimental and theoretical systematic uncertainties substantially. Compared to the currently used methods it might, at…
Bardeen-Buras-Gérard have proposed a large N$_c$ method to evaluate hadronic weak matrix elements to attack for instance the determination of the $ΔI= \frac{1}{2}$-rule and $\mathrm{Re}(\frac{ε'}ε)$. Here we test this method to the determination of the form factor parameters $a_+$ and $b_+$ in the decays $K^+ \rightarrow π^+ \ell^+ \ell^- $ and $K_S \rightarrow π^0 \ell^+ \ell^-$. The results are encouraging: in particular after a complete treatment of Vector Meson Dominance (VMD).
Recent results for charm quark mass effects in perturbative bottom quark mass determinations from $Υ$ mesons are reviewed. The connection between the behavior of light quark mass corrections and the infrared sensitivity of some bottom quark mass definitions is examined in some detail.
We present a comparison of the computation of energy-energy correlation in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions in the back-to-back region at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy matched with the next-to-next-to-leading order perturbative prediction to LEP, PEP, PETRA, SLC and TRISTAN data. With these predictions we perform an extraction of the strong coupling constant taking into account non-perturbative effects modelled with Monte Carlo event generators. The final result at NNLO+NNLL precision is $α_{S}(M_{Z})=0.11750\pm 0.00018 {\text( exp.)}\pm 0.00102{\text(hadr.)}\pm0.00257{\text(ren.)}\pm 0.…
We present an overview of the recent lattice determination of the QCD coupling $α_s$ by the ALPHA Collaboration. The computation is based on the non-perturbative determination of the $Λ$-parameter of $N_{\rm f}=3$ QCD, and the perturbative matching of the $N_{\rm f}=3$ and $N_{\rm f}=5$ theories. The final result: $α_s(m_Z)=0.11852(84)$, reaches sub-percent accuracy.
We present a theoretical reappraisal of the branching ratios and CP asymmetries for the decays $ B \to X_q \ell^+ \ell^-$, with $q=d,s$, taking into account current theoretical uncertainties in the description of the inclusive decay amplitudes from the long-distance contributions, an improved treatment of the renormalization scale dependence, and other parametric dependencies. Concentrating on the partial branching ratios $Δ{\cal B}(B \to X_q \ell^+ \ell^-)$, integrated over the invariant dilepton mass region $1 {GeV}^2 \leq s \leq 6 {GeV}^2$, we calculate theoretical precision on the charge-c…
Non-perturbative scale-dependent renormalization problems are ubiquitous in lattice QCD as they enter many relevant phenomenological applications. They require solving non-perturbatively the renormalization group equations for the QCD parameters and matrix elements of interest in order to relate their non-perturbative determinations at low energy to their high-energy counterparts needed for phenomenology. Bridging the large energy separation between the hadronic and perturbative regimes of QCD, however, is a notoriously difficult task. In this contribution we focus on the case of the QCD coupl…
We study the triple differential distribution of B-> Xu l nu, consistently including all perturbative and non-perturbative effects through O(alphas^2 beta_0) and O(1/mb^3). The Fermi motion is parameterized in terms of a single light-cone function for each structure function and for any value of q^2, accounting for all subleading effects. We discuss the problems and uncertainties related to the high-q^2 tail and to Weak Annihilation effects. We work in the kinetic scheme, a framework characterized by a Wilsonian treatment with a hard cutoff mu ~ 1GeV. Our method is illustrated with the extract…
We discuss the renormalization of the electroweak Standard Model at 1-loop using the leptonic effective weak mixing angle as one of the input parameters. We evaluate the impact of this choice in the prediction of the forward-backward asymmetry for the neutral current Drell-Yan process. The proposed input scheme is suitable for a direct determination of the effective leptonic weak mixing angle from the experimental data.
Methods are described in the framework of light-cone expansion which allow one to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements |V_ub| and |V_cb| from measurements of the differential decay rates as a function of the scaling variables in the inclusive semileptonic decays of B mesons. By these model-independent methods the dominant hadronic uncertainties can be avoided and the B -> X_u\ellνdecay can be very efficiently differentiated from the B -> X_c\ellνdecay, which may lead to precise determinations of |V_ub| and |V_cb|.
New data on polarized $μ-p$ and $e-p$ scattering permit a first determination of $α_s$ using the Bjorken sum rule, as well as higher precision in determining the nucleon spin decomposition. Using perturbative QCD calculations to $O(α_s^4)$ for the non-singlet combination of structure functions, we find $α_s(2.5 GeV^2) = 0.375^{+0.062}_{-0.081}$, corresponding to $α_s(M_Z^2) =0.122^{+0.005}_{-0.009}$, and using calculations to $O(α_s^3)$ for the singlet combination we find $Δu = 0.83 \pm 0.03$, $Δd= -0.43 \pm 0.03$, $Δs =-0.10 \pm 0.03$, $ΔΣ\equiv Δu + Δd + \Ds = 0.31 \pm 0.07$, at a renormaliz…
We propose a model independent method to determine $|V_{ub}|$ from the energy spectrum of the charged lepton in inclusive semileptonic $B$ decays. The method includes perturbative QCD corrections as well as nonperturbative ones.
We revisit the determination of alpha_s(m_tau) using a fit to inclusive tau hadronic spectral moments in light of (1) the recent calculation of the fourth-order perturbative coefficient K_4 in the expansion of the Adler function, (2) new precision measurements from BABAR of e+e- annihilation cross sections, which decrease the uncertainty in the separation of vector and axial-vector spectral functions, and (3) improved results from BABAR and Belle on tau branching fractions involving kaons. We estimate that the fourth-order perturbative prediction reduces the theoretical uncertainty, introduced…
We reassess the $B\toπ\ellν_{\ell}$ differential branching ratio distribution experimental data released by the BaBar and Belle Collaborations supplemented with all lattice calculations of the $B\toπ$ form factor shape available up to date obtained by the HPQCD, FNAL/MILC and RBC/UKQCD Collaborations. Our study is based on the method of Padé approximants, and includes a detailed scrutiny of each individual data set that allow us to obtain $|V_{ub}|=3.53(8)_{\rm{stat}}(6)_{\rm{syst}}\times10^{-3}$. The semileptonic $B^{+}\toη^{(\prime)}\ell^{+}ν_{\ell}$ decays are also addressed and the $η$-$η^…
