For $\mathcal{O}$ an operad in $k$-vector spaces, the category $\mathcal{F}_\mathcal{O}$ is defined to be the category of $k$-linear functors from the PROP associated to $\mathcal{O}$ to $k$-vector spaces. Given $μ\in \mathcal{O} (2)$ that satisfies a right Leibniz condition, the full subcategory $\mathcal{F}_\mathcal{O}^μ\subset \mathcal{F}_\mathcal{O}$ is introduced here and its properties studied.
This is motivated by the case of the Lie operad, where $μ$ is taken to be the generator. By previous results of the author, when $k = \mathbb{Q}$, $\mathcal{F}_{Lie}$ is equivalent to the category of analytic functors on the opposite of the category $\mathbf{gr}$ of finitely-generated free groups. The main result shows that $\mathcal{F}_{Lie}^μ$ identifies with the category of outer analytic functors, as introduced in earlier work of the author with Vespa.
Using this identification, this theory has applications to the study of the higher Hochschild homology functors related to work of Turchin and Willwacher.
For $N_\infty$ operads $\mathcal O$ and $\mathcal O'$ such that there is an inclusion of the associated indexing systems, there is a forgetful functor from incomplete Tambara functors over $\mathcal O'$ to incomplete Tambara functors over $\mathcal O$. Roughly speaking, this functor forgets the norms in $\mathcal O'$ that are not present in $\mathcal O$. The forgetful functor has both a left and a right adjoint; the left adjoint is an operadic tensor product, but the right adjoint is more mysterious. We explicitly compute the right adjoint for finite cyclic groups of prime order.
We relate the relative nerve $\mathrm{N}_f(\mathcal{D})$ of a diagram of simplicial sets $f \colon \mathcal{D} \to \mathsf{sSet}$ with the Grothendieck construction $\mathsf{Gr} F$ of a simplicial functor $F \colon \mathcal{D} \to \mathsf{sCat}$ in the case where $f = \mathrm{N} F$. We further show that any strict monoidal simplicial category $\mathcal{C}$ gives rise to a functor $\mathcal{C}^\bullet \colon Δ^\mathrm{op} \to \mathsf{sCat}$, and that the relative nerve of $\mathrm{N} \mathcal{C}^\bullet$ is the operadic nerve $\mathrm{N}^\otimes(\mathcal{C})$. Finally, we show that all the abov…
We construct a generalization of the operadic nerve, providing a translation between the equivariant simplicially enriched operadic world to the parametrized $\infty$-categorical perspective. This naturally factors through genuine equivariant operads, a model for "equivariant operads with norms up to homotopy". We introduce the notion of an op-fibration of genuine equivariant operads, extending Grothendieck op-fibrations, and characterize fibrant operads as the image of genuine equivariant symmetric monoidal categories. Moreover, we show that under the operadic nerve, this image is sent to $G$…
We show that when using the underlying positive model structure on symmetric spectra one obtains cofibrancy conditions for operadic constructions under much milder hypothesis than one would need for general categories. Our main result provides such an analysis for a key operation, the "relative composition product" $\circ_{\mathcal{O}}$ between right and left $\mathcal{O}$-modules over a spectral operad $\mathcal{O}$, and as a consequence we recover (and usually strengthen) previous results establishing the Quillen invariance of model structures on categories of algebras via weak equivalences …
The functor between operadic algebras given by restriction along an operad map generally has a left adjoint. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the restriction functor to admit a right adjoint. The condition is a factorization axiom which roughly says that operations in the codomain operad can be written essentially uniquely as operations in arity one followed by operations in the domain operad.
In this paper, we construct incomplete versions of the equivariant stable category; i.e., equivariant stabilization of the category of $G$-spaces with respect to incomplete systems of transfers encoded by an $N_\infty$ operad $\mathcal{O}$. These categories are built from the categories of $\mathcal{O}$-algebras in $G$-spaces. Using this operadic formulation, we establish incomplete versions of the usual structural properties of the equivariant stable category, notably the tom Dieck splitting. Our work is motivated in part by the examples arising from the equivariant units and Picard space fun…
In the homotopical study of spaces of smooth embeddings, the functor calculus method (Goodwillie-Klein-Weiss manifold calculus) has opened up important connections to operad theory. Using this and a few simplifying observations, we arrive at an operadic description of the obstructions to deforming smooth immersions into smooth embeddings. We give an application which in some respects improves on recent results of Arone-Turchin and Dwyer-Hess concerning high-dimensional variants of spaces of long knots.
We present a novel approach to the problem of integrating homotopy Lie algebras by representing the Maurer-Cartan space functor with a universal cosimplicial object. This recovers Getzler's original functor but allows us to prove the existence of additional, previously unknown, structures and properties. Namely, we introduce a well-behaved left adjoint functor, we establish functoriality with respect to infinity-morphisms, and we construct a coherent hierarchy of higher Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formulas. Thanks to these tools, we are able to establish the most important results of higher Lie t…
Morphisms in the linear category A of Jacobi diagrams in handlebodies give rise to interesting contravariant functors on the category gr of finitely-generated free groups, encoding part of the composition structure of the category A. These functors correspond, via an equivalence of categories given by Powell, to functors given by beaded open Jacobi diagrams. We study the polynomiality of these functors and whether they are outer functors. These results are inspired by and generalize previous results obtained by Katada.
The goal of the present paper is to compare, in a precise way, two notions of operads up to homotopy which appear in the literature. Namely, we construct a functor from the category of strict unital homotopy colored operads to the category of infinity-operads. The former notion, that we make precise, is the operadic generalization of the notion of A-infinity-categories and the latter notion was defined by Moerdijk--Weiss in order to generalize the simplicial notion of infinity-category of Joyal--Lurie. This functor extends in two directions the simplicial nerve of Faonte--Lurie for A-infinity-…
It is well known that the forgetful functor from symmetric operads to nonsymmetric operads has a left adjoint $Sym_1$ given by product with the symmetric group operad. It is also well known that this functor does not affect the category of algebras of the operad. From the point of view of the author's theory of higher operads, the nonsymmmetric operads are 1-operads and $Sym_1$ is the first term of the infinite series of left adjoint functors $Sym_n,$ called symmetrisation functors, from $n$-operads to symmetric operads with the property that the category of one object, one arrow, . . ., one $…
In [KW14], the new concept of Feynman categories was introduced to simplify the discussion of operad--like objects. In this present paper, we demonstrate the usefulness of this approach, by introducing the concept of decorated Feynman categories. The procedure takes a Feynman category $\mathfrak F$ and a functor $\mathcal O$ to a monoidal category to produce a new Feynman category ${\mathfrak F}_{dec {\mathcal O}}$. This in one swat explains the existence of non--sigma operads, non--sigma cyclic operads, and the non--sigma--modular operads of Markl as well as all the usual candidates simply fr…
Let M be a bicomplete, closed symmetric monoidal category. Let P be an operad in M, i.e., a monoid in the category of symmetric sequences of objects in M, with its composition monoidal structure. Let R be a P-co-ring, i.e., a comonoid in the category of P-bimodules. The co-ring R induces a natural ``fattening'' of the category of P-(co)algebras, expanding the morphism sets while leaving the objects fixed. Co-rings over operads are thus ``relative operads,'' parametrizing morphisms as operads parametrize (co)algebras. Let A denote the associative operad in the category of chain complexes. We de…
