This paper proposed a method to judge whether the point is inside or outside of the simple convex polygon by the intersection of the vertical line. It determined the point to an area enclosed by two straight lines, then convert the problem of determining whether a point is inside or outside of a convex polygon into the problem of determining whether a point is inside or outside of a quadrilateral. After that, use the ray method to judge it. The complexity of this algorithm is O(1) to O(n). As the experimental results show, the algorithm has fewer intersections and greatly improves the efficiency of the judgment.

We consider the planar two-center problem for a convex polygon: given a convex polygon in the plane, find two congruent disks of minimum radius whose union contains the polygon. We present an $O(n\log n)$-time algorithm for the two-center problem for a convex polygon, where $n$ is the number of vertices of the polygon. This improves upon the previous best algorithm for the problem.
In this paper we aim to bring new approach into usage of Shoelace Algorithm for area calculation in convex polygons on Cartesian coordinate system, with concentration on point in polygon concept. Generalization of usage of the concept will be proposed for line segment and polygons. Testing of new method will be done using Python language. Given a convex polygon $P$ with $k$ vertices and a polygonal domain $Q$ consisting of polygonal obstacles with total size $n$ in the plane, we study the optimization problem of finding a largest similar copy of $P$ that can be placed in $Q$ without intersecting the obstacles. A convex partition of a point set P in the plane is a planar partition of the convex hull of P with empty convex polygons or internal faces whose extreme points belong to P. In a convex partition, the union of the internal faces give the convex hull of P and the interiors of the polygons are pairwise disjoint. Moreover, no polygon is allowed to contain a point of P in its interior. The problem is to find a convex partition based on the minimum number of internal faces. We propose an algorithm for this problem in the streaming setup, where the input stream is the vertices of the polygon in clockwise order. Let $B$ be a point robot moving in the plane, whose path is constrained to forward motions with curvature at most one, and let $P$ be a convex polygon with $n$ vertices. Given a starting configuration (a location and a direction of travel) for $B$ inside $P$, we characterize the region of all points of $P$ that can be reached by $B$, and show that it has complexity $O(n)$. We give an $O(n^2)$ time algorithm to compute this region. We give an overview of the 2023 Computational Geometry Challenge targeting the problem Minimum Coverage by Convex Polygons, which consists of covering a given polygonal region (possibly with holes) by a minimum number of convex subsets, a problem with a long-standing tradition in Computational Geometry.
We study the problem of finding maximum-area triangles that can be inscribed in a polygon in the plane. We consider eight versions of the problem: we use either convex polygons or simple polygons as the container; we require the triangles to have either one corner with a fixed angle or all three corners with fixed angles; we either allow reorienting the triangle or require its orientation to be fixed. We present exact algorithms for all versions of the problem. In the case with reorientations for convex polygons with $n$ vertices, we also present $(1-\varepsilon)$-approximation algorithms.
A watchman path is a path such that a direct line of sight exists between each point in some region and some point along the path. Here, we study the online watchman path problem outside a convex polygon, i.e., in $\mathbb{R}^2\setminus Ω$, where $Ω$ is a convex polygon that is not known in advance. We present an algorithm for the exploration of the region outside the polygon. We prove that the presented algorithms guarantees a $\approx 22.77$ competitive ratio compared to the optimal offline watchman path.

Let $P$ and $Q$ be two simple polygons in the plane of total complexity $n$, each of which can be decomposed into at most $k$ convex parts. We present an $(1-\varepsilon)$-approximation algorithm, for finding the translation of $Q$, which maximizes its area of overlap with $P$. Our algorithm runs in $O(c n)$ time, where $c$ is a constant that depends only on $k$ and $\varepsilon$. This suggest that for polygons that are "close" to being convex, the problem can be solved (approximately), in near linear time.
We introduce a notion of $k$-convexity and explore polygons in the plane that have this property. Polygons which are \mbox{$k$-convex} can be triangulated with fast yet simple algorithms. However, recognizing them in general is a 3SUM-hard problem. Polygon inclusion problems have been studied extensively in geometric optimization. In this paper, we consider the variant of computing the maximum area parallelograms (MAPs) and all the locally maximal area parallelograms (LMAPs) in a given convex polygon. By proving and utilizing several structural properties of the LMAPs, we compute all of them (including all the MAPs) in $O(n^2)$ time, where $n$ denotes the number of edges of the given polygon. A high-level description of an algorithm which computes the minimum perimeter triangle enclosing a convex polygon in linear time exists in the literature. Besides that an implementation of the algorithm is given in the subsequent work. However, that implementation is incomplete and omits certain common cases. We investigate how to make the surface of a convex polyhedron (a polytope) by folding up a polygon and gluing its perimeter shut, and the reverse process of cutting open a polytope and unfolding it to a polygon. We explore basic enumeration questions in both directions: Given a polygon, how many foldings are there? Given a polytope, how many unfoldings are there to simple polygons? Throughout we give special attention to convex polygons, and to regular polygons. We introduce a new notion for geometric families called self-coverability and show that homothets of convex polygons are self-coverable. As a corollary, we obtain several results about coloring point sets such that any member of the family with many points contains all colors. This is dual (and in some cases equivalent) to the much investigated cover-decomposability problem.
Let $ES(n)$ be the smallest integer such that any set of $ES(n)$ points in the plane in general position contains $n$ points in convex position. In their seminal 1935 paper, Erdos and Szekeres showed that $ES(n) \leq {2n - 4\choose n-2} + 1 = 4^{n -o(n)}$. In 1960, they showed that $ES(n) \geq 2^{n-2} + 1$ and conjectured this to be optimal. In this paper, we nearly settle the Erdos-Szekeres conjecture by showing that $ES(n) =2^{n +o(n)}$.
We study several problems concerning convex polygons whose vertices lie in a Cartesian product of two sets of $n$ real numbers (for short, \emph{grid}). First, we prove that every such grid contains $Ω(\log n)$ points in convex position and that this bound is tight up to a constant factor. A flipturn is an operation that transforms a nonconvex simple polygon into another simple polygon, by rotating a concavity 180 degrees around the midpoint of its bounding convex hull edge. Joss and Shannon proved in 1973 that a sequence of flipturns eventually transforms any simple polygon into a convex polygon. This paper describes several new results about such flipturn sequences. We show that any orthogonal polygon is convexified after at most n-5 arbitrary flipturns, or at most 5(n-4)/6 well-chosen flipturns, improving the previously best upper bound of (n-1)!/2. The tangram and Sei Shonagon Chie no Ita are popular dissection puzzles consisting of seven pieces. Each puzzle can be formed by identifying edges from sixteen identical right isosceles triangles. It is known that the tangram can form 13 convex polygons. We show that Sei Shonagon Chie no Ita can form 16 convex polygons, propose a new puzzle that can form 19, no 7 piece puzzle can form 20, and 11 pieces are necessary and sufficient to form all 20 polygons formable by 16 identical isosceles right triangles. We compute the number of triangulations of a convex $k$-gon each of whose sides is subdivided by $r-1$ points. We find explicit formulas and generating functions, and we determine the asymptotic behaviour of these numbers as $k$ and/or $r$ tend to infinity. We connect these results with the question of finding the planar set of points in general position that has the minimum possible number of triangulations - a well-known open problem from computational geometry.

Erdős conjectured in 1946 that every n-point set P in convex position in the plane contains a point that determines at least floor(n/2) distinct distances to the other points of P. The best known lower bound due to Dumitrescu (2006) is 13n/36 - O(1). In the present note, we slightly improve on this result to (13/36 + eps)n - O(1) for eps ~= 1/23000. Our main ingredient is an improved bound on the maximum number of isosceles triangles determined by P.
A planar point set is in convex position precisely when it has a convex polygonization, that is, a polygonization with maximum interior angle measure at most π. We can thus talk about the convexity of a set of points in terms of the minimum, taken over all polygonizations, of the maximum interior angle. The main result presented here is a nontrivial combinatorial upper bound of this min-max value in terms of the number of points in the set. Motivated by a particular construction, we also pose a natural conjecture for the best upper bound.
