In [Science 340:1205, (2013)], via entanglement polytopes Michael Walter et al. obtained a finite yet systematic classification of multi-particle entanglement. It is well known that under SLOCC, pure states of three (four) qubits are partitioned into six (nine) families. In this paper,we present a LU invariant and an entanglement measures for the GHZ SLOCC class of three qubits, and partition states of the GHZ SLOCC class of three qubits into ten families and each family into two subfamilies under LU. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniqueness of the generalized Schmidt decomposition for the GHZ SLOCC class.
Like a three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger(GHZ) symmetry we explore a corresponding symmetry in the four-qubit system, which we call GHZ$_4$ symmetry. While whole GHZ-symmetric states can be represented by two real parameters, the whole set of the GHZ$_4$-symmetric states is represented by three real parameters. In the parameter space all GHZ$_4$-symmetric states reside inside a tetrahedron. We also explore a question where the given SLOCC class of the GHZ$_4$-symmetric states resides in the tetrahedron. Among nine SLOCC classes we have examined five SLOCC classes, which results in three l…
The hierarchy of nonlocality and entanglement in multipartite systems is one of the fundamental problems in quantum physics. We study this topic in three-qubit systems considering the entanglement classification of stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). The equivalence under SLOCC divides threequbit states into separable, biseparable, W, and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) classes. The W and GHZ are two subclasses of genuine tripartite entanglement. We adopt the family of GHZ-symmetric states as a research subject, which share the symmetries of the GHZ state and have…
For any even $n$ qubits we establish four SLOCC equations and construct four SLOCC polynomials (not complete) of degree $2^{n/2}$, which can be exploited for SLOCC classification (not complete) of any even $n$ qubits. In light of the SLOCC equations, we propose several different genuine entangled states of even $n$ qubits and show that they are inequivalent to the $|GHZ>$, $|W>$, or $|l,n>$ (the symmetric Dicke states with $l$ excitations) under SLOCC via the vanishing or not of the polynomials. The absolute values of the polynomials can be considered as entanglement measures.
In this paper, we study the entanglement transformation rate between multipartite states under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). Firstly, we show that the entanglement transformation rate from $\ket{GHZ}=\tfrac{1}{\sqrt{2}}(\ket{000}+\ket{111})$ to $\ket{W}=\tfrac{1}{\sqrt{3}}(\ket{100}+\ket{010}+\ket{001})$ is 1, that is, one can obtain 1 copy of $W$-state, from 1 copy of $GHZ$-state by SLOCC, asymptotically. We then generalize this result to a lower bound on the rate that from $N$-partite $GHZ$-state to Dicke states. For some special cases, the optimality of th…
I show that two distant parties can transform pure entangled states to arbitrary pure states by stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) at the single copy level, if they share bound entangled states. This is the effect of bound entanglement since this entanglement processing is impossible by SLOCC alone. Similar effect of bound entanglement occurs in three qubits where two incomparable entangled states of GHZ and W can be inter-converted. In general multipartite settings composed by $N$ distant parties, all $N$-partite pure entangled states are inter-convertible by SLOC…
The multi-qubit GHZ state possesses tangles with elegant transformation properties under stochastic local operations and classical communication. Since almost all pure 3-qubit states are connected to the GHZ state via SLOCC, we derive a necessary and sufficient achievability inequality on arbitrary 3-qubit tangles, which is a strictly stronger constraint than both the monogamy inequality and the marginal eigenvalue inequality. We then show that entanglement shared with any single party in the n-qubit GHZ SLOCC equivalence class is precisely accounted for by the sum of its k-tangles, recently c…
We propose the concept of SLOCC-equivalent basis (SEB) in the multiqubit space. In particular, two special SEBs, the GHZ-type and the W-type basis are introduced. They can make up a more general family of multiqubit states, the GHZ-W-type states, which is a useful kind of entanglement for quantum teleporatation and error correction. We completely characterize the property of this type of states, and mainly classify the GHZ-type states and the W-type states in a regular way, which is related to the enumerative combinatorics. Many concrete examples are given to exhibit how our method is used for…
We investigate entanglement transformations with stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) in an asymptotic setting using the concepts of degeneration and border rank of tensors from algebraic complexity theory. Results well-known in that field imply that GHZ states can be transformed into W states at rate 1 for any number of parties. As a generalization, we find that the asymptotic conversion rate from GHZ states to Dicke states is bounded as the number of subsystems increase and the number of excitations is fixed. By generalizing constructions of Coppersmith and Winogra…
While multipartite quantum states constitute a (if not the) key resource for quantum computations and protocols, obtaining a high-level, structural understanding of entanglement involving arbitrarily many qubits is a long-standing open problem in quantum computer science. In this paper we expose the algebraic and graphical structure of the GHZ-state and the W-state, as well as a purely graphical distinction that characterises the behaviours of these states. In turn, this structure yields a compositional graphical model for expressing general multipartite states. We identify those states, named…
We study the interconversion of multipartite symmetric $N$-qubit states under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). We demonstrate that if two symmetric states can be connected with a nonsymmetric invertible local operation (ILO), then they belong necessarily to the separable, W, or GHZ entanglement class, establishing a practical method of discriminating subsets of entanglement classes. Furthermore, we prove that there always exists a symmetric ILO connecting any pair of symmetric $N$-qubit states equivalent under SLOCC, simplifying the requirements for experimental…
Characterizing the transformation and classification of multipartite entangled states is a basic problem in quantum information. We study the problem under two most common environments, local operations and classical communications (LOCC), stochastic LOCC and two more general environments, multi-copy LOCC (MCLOCC) and multi-copy SLOCC (MCSLOCC). We show that two transformable multipartite states under LOCC or SLOCC are also transformable under MCLOCC and MCSLOCC. What's more, these two environments are equivalent in the sense that two transformable states under MCLOCC are also transformable un…
True tripartite entanglement of the state of a system of three qubits can be classified on the basis of stochastic local operations and classical communications (SLOCC). Such states can be classified in two categories: GHZ states and W-states. It is known that GHZ states can be used for teleportation and superdense coding, but the prototype W-state cannot be. However, we show that there is a class of W-states that can be used for perfect teleportation and superdense coding.
Recently, several schemes for the experimental creation of Dicke states were described. In this paper, we show that all the $n$-qubit symmetric Dicke states with $l$ ($2\leq l\leq (n-2)$) excitations are inequivalent to the $% |GHZ>$ state or the $|W>$ state under SLOCC, that the even $n$% -qubit symmetric Dicke state with $n/2$ excitations is inequivalent to any even $n$-qubit symmetric Dicke state with $l\neq n/2$ excitations under SLOCC, and that all the $n$-qubit symmetric Dicke states with $l$ ($2\leq l\leq (n-2)$) excitations satisfy Coffman, Kundu and Wootters' generalized monogamy ineq…
We show that all multipartite pure states that are SLOCC equivalent to the $N$-qubit $W$ state, can be uniquely determined (among arbitrary states) from their bipartite marginals. We also prove that only $(N-1)$ of the bipartite marginals are sufficient and this is also the optimal number. Thus, contrary to the $GHZ$ class, $W$-type states preserve their reducibility under SLOCC. We also study the optimal reducibility of some larger classes of states. The generic Dicke states $|GD_N^\ell\ran$ are shown to be optimally determined by their ($\ell+1$)-partite marginals. The class of `$G$' states …
Lamata et al. use an inductive approach to classify the entangled pure states of four qubits under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) [PRA 75(2), 022318 (2007)]. The inductive method yields a priori ten different entanglement superclasses, of which they discard three as empty. One of the remaining superclasses is split in two, resulting in eight superclasses of genuine four-qubit entanglement. Here, we show that two of the three discarded superclasses are in fact non-empty and should have been retained. We give explicit expressions for the canonical states for thos…
Similar to the three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) symmetry we explore the four-qubit GHZ symmetry group and its subgroup called restricted GHZ symmetry group. While the set of symmetric states under the whole group transformation is represented by three real parameters, the set of symmetric states under the subgroup transformation is represented by two real parameters. After comparing the symmetric states for whole and subgroup, the entanglement is examined for the latter set. It is shown that the set has only two SLOCC classes, $L_{abc_2}$ and $G_{abcd}$. Extension to the multi-qub…
We consider a single copy of a pure four-partite state of qubits and investigate its behaviour under the action of stochastic local quantum operations assisted by classical communication (SLOCC). This leads to a complete classification of all different classes of pure states of four-qubits. It is shown that there exist nine families of states corresponding to nine different ways of entangling four qubits. The states in the generic family give rise to GHZ-like entanglement. The other ones contain essentially 2- or 3-qubit entanglement distributed among the four parties. The concept of concurren…
We present a new tripartite entanglement measure for three-qubit mixed states. The new measure $t_{\mathrm{r}}(ρ)$, which we refer to as the r-tangle, is given as a kind of the tangle, but has a feature which the tangle does not have; if we can derive an analytical form of $ t_{\mathrm{r}}(ρ)$ for a three-qubit mixed state $ρ$, we can also derive $t_{\mathrm{r}}(ρ')$ analytically for any states $ρ'$ which are SLOCC-equivalent to the state $ρ$. The concurrence of two-qubit states also satisfies the feature, but the tangle does not. These facts imply that the r-tangle $t_{\mathrm{r}}$ is the app…
We examine the SLOCC classification of the (non-normalized) pure states of four qubits obtained by F. Verstraete et al. The rigorous proofs of their basic results are provided and necessary corrections implemented. We use Invariant Theory to solve the problem of equivalence of pure states under SLOCC transformations of determinant 1 and qubit permutations. As a byproduct, we produce a new set of generators for the invariants of the Weyl group of type F_4. We complete the determination of the tensor ranks of 4-qubit pure states initiated by J.-L. Brylinski. As a result we obtain a simple algori…
We analyse the minimum quantum resources needed to realise strong non-locality, as exemplified e.g. by the classical GHZ construction. It was already known that no two-qubit system, with any finite number of local measurements, can realise strong non-locality. For three-qubit systems, we show that strong non-locality can only be realised in the GHZ SLOCC class, and with equatorial measurements. However, we show that in this class there is an infinite family of states which are pairwise non-LU-equivalent that realise strong non-locality with finitely many measurements. These states have decreas…
We study the problem of transforming a tripartite pure state to a bipartite one using stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). It is known that the tripartite-to-bipartite SLOCC convertibility is characterized by the maximal Schmidt rank of the given tripartite state, i.e. the largest Schmidt rank over those bipartite states lying in the support of the reduced density operator. In this paper, we further study this problem and exhibit novel results in both multi-copy and asymptotic settings. In the multi-copy regime, we observe that the maximal Schmidt rank is strictly s…
Three entanglement concentration protocols (ECPs) are proposed. The first ECP and a modified version of that are shown to be useful for the creation of maximally entangled cat and GHZ-like states from their non-maximally entangled counterparts. The last two ECPs are designed for the creation of maximally entangled $(n+1)$-qubit state $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\left(|Ψ_{0}\rangle|0\rangle+|Ψ_{1}\rangle|1\rangle\right)$ from the partially entangled $(n+1)$-qubit normalized state $α|Ψ_{0}\rangle|0\rangle+β|Ψ_{1}\rangle|1\rangle$, where $\langleΨ_{1}|Ψ_{0}\rangle=0$ and $|α|\neq\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}$. It is…
We consider the Minkowskian norm of the n-photon Stokes tensor, a scalar invariant under the group realized by the transformations of stochastic local quantum operations and classical communications (SLOCC). This invariant is offered as a candidate entanglement measure for n-qubit states and discussed in relation to measures of quantum state entanglement for certain important classes of two-qubit and three-qubit systems. This invariant can be directly estimated via a quantum network, obviating the need to perform laborious quantum state tomography. We also show that this invariant directly cap…
We study the problem of converting a product of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states shared by subsets of several parties in an arbitrary way into GHZ states shared by every party. Our result is that if SLOCC transformations are allowed, then the best asymptotic rate is the minimum of bipartite log-ranks of the initial state. This generalizes a result by Strassen on the asymptotic subrank of the matrix multiplication tensor.
The compositional techniques of categorical quantum mechanics are applied to analyse 3-qubit quantum entanglement. In particular the graphical calculus of complementary observables and corresponding phases due to Duncan and one of the authors is used to construct representative members of the two genuinely tripartite SLOCC classes of 3-qubit entangled states, GHZ and W. This nicely illustrates the respectively pairwise and global tripartite entanglement found in the W- and GHZ-class states. A new concept of supplementarity allows us to characterise inhabitants of the W class within the abstrac…
We propose two schemes for concentration of $(n+1)$-qubit entangled states that can be written in the form of $(α|φ_{0}\rangle|0\rangle+β|φ_{1}\rangle|1\rangle)_{n+1}$ where $|φ_{0}\rangle$ and $|φ_{1}\rangle$ are mutually orthogonal $n$-qubit states. The importance of this general form is that the entangled states like Bell, cat, GHZ, GHZ-like, $|Ω\rangle$, $|Q_{5}\rangle$, 4-qubit cluster states and specific states from the 9 SLOCC-nonequivalent families of 4-qubit entangled states can be expressed in this form. The proposed entanglement concentration protocol is based on the local operation…
For a tripartite pure state of three qubits, it is well known that there are two inequivalent classes of genuine tripartite entanglement, namely the GHZ-class and the W-class. Any two states within the same class can be transformed into each other with stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) with a non-zero probability. The optimal conversion probability, however, is only known for special cases. Here, we derive new lower and upper bounds for the optimal probability of transformation from a GHZ-state to other states of the GHZ-class. A key idea in the derivation of the …
We classify four qubit states under SLOCC operations, that is, we classify the orbits of the group $\mathrm{\mathop{SL}}(2,\mathbb{C})^4$ on the Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}_4 = (\mathbb{C}^2)^{\otimes 4}$. We approach the classification by realising this representation as a symmetric space of maximal rank. We first describe general methods for classifying the orbits of such a space. We then apply these methods to obtain the orbits in our special case, resulting in a complete and irredundant classification of $\mathrm{\mathop{SL}}(2,\mathbb{C})^4$-orbits on $\mathcal{H}_4$. It follows that an el…
The limitation on the shareability of quantum entanglement over several parties, the so-called monogamy of entanglement, is an issue that has caught considerable attention of quantum informa- tion community over the last decade. A natural question of interest in this connection is whether monogamy of correlations is true for correlations other than entanglement. This issue is examined here by choosing quantum deficit, proposed by Rajagopal and Rendell, an operational measure of correlations. In addition to establishing the polygamous nature of the class of three qubit sym- metric pure states c…
We consider local unitary invariants and entanglement monotones for the mixed two qutrit system. Character methods for the local SU(3)xSU(3) transformation group are used to establish the count of algebraically independent polynomial invariants up to degree 5 in the components of the density operator. These are identified up to quartic degree in the standard basis of Gell-Mann matrices, with the help of the calculus of f and d coefficients. Next, investigating local measurement operations, we study a SLOCC qutrit group, which plays the role of a `relativistic' transformation group analogous to…
We show that the three-qubit entanglement classes: (0) Null, (1) Separable A-B-C, (2a) Biseparable A-BC, (2b) Biseparable B-CA, (2c) Biseparable C-AB, (3) W and (4) GHZ correspond respectively to ranks 0, 1, 2a, 2b, 2c, 3 and 4 of a Freudenthal triple system defined over the Jordan algebra C+C+C. We also compute the corresponding SLOCC orbits.
We approach multipartite entanglement classification in the symmetric subspace in terms of algebraic geometry, its natural language. We show that the class of symmetric separable states has the structure of a Veronese variety and that its $k$-secant varieties are SLOCC invariants. Thus SLOCC classes gather naturally into families. This classification presents useful properties such as a linear growth of the number of families with the number of particles, and nesting, i.e. upward consistency of the classification. We attach physical meaning to this classification through the required interacti…
Usually the $\ell_2$-norm plays vital roles in quantum physics, acting as the probability of states. In this paper, we show the important roles of $\ell_1$-norm in Yang-Baxter quantum system, in connection with both the braid matrix and quantum entanglements. Concretely, we choose the 2-body and 3-body S-matrices, constrained by Yang-Baxter equation. It has been shown that for 2-body case, the extreme values of $\ell_1$-norm lead to two types of braid matrices and 2-qubit Bell states. Here we show that for the 3-body case, due to the constraint of YBE, the extreme values of $\ell_1$-norm lead …
We derive an inequality for three fermions with six single particle states which reduces to the sum of the famous Coffman-Kundu-Wootters inequalities when an embedded three qubit system is considered. We identify the quantities which are playing the role of the concurrence, the three-tangle and the invariant $\det ρ_A+\det ρ_B+\det ρ_C$ for this tripartite system. We show that this latter one is almost interchangeable with the von Neumann entropy and conjecture that it measures the entanglement of one fermion with the rest of the system. We prove that the vanishing of the fermionic "concurrenc…
Employing the Pauli matrices, we have constructed a set of operators, which can be used to distinguish six inequivalent classes of entanglement under SLOCC (stochastic local operation and classical communication) for three-qubit pure states. These operators have very simple structure and can be obtained from the Mermin's operator with suitable choice of directions. Moreover these operators may be implemented in an experiment to distinguish the types of entanglement present in a state. We show that the measurement of only one operator is sufficient to distinguish GHZ class from rest of the clas…
In this paper, we derive a general formula of the tangle for pure states of three qubits, and present three explicit local unitary (LU) polynomial invariants. Our result goes beyond the classical work of tangle, 3-tangle and von Neumann entropy of entanglement for Ac\'ın et al.' Schmidt decomposition (ASD) of three qubits by connecting the tangle, 3-tangle, and von Neumann entropy for ASD with Ac\'ın et al.'s LU invariants. In particular, our result reveals a general relation among tangle, 3-tangle, and von Neumann entropy, together with a relation among their averages. The relations can help …

Using techniques from symplectic geometry, we prove that a pure state of three qubits is up to local unitaries uniquely determined by its one-particle reduced density matrices exactly when their ordered spectra belong to the boundary of the, so called, Kirwan polytope. Otherwise, the states with given reduced density matrices are parameterized, up to local unitary equivalence, by two real variables. Given inevitable experimental imprecisions, this means that already for three qubits a pure quantum state can never be reconstructed from single-particle tomography. We moreover show that knowledge…
We derive analytical upper bounds for the entanglement of generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states coupled to locally depolarizing and dephasing environments, and for local thermal baths of arbitrary temperature. These bounds apply for any convex quantifier of entanglement, and exponential entanglement decay with the number of constituent particles is found. The bounds are tight for depolarizing and dephasing channels. We also show that randomly generated initial states tend to violate these bounds, and that this discrepancy grows with the number of particles.
The multipartite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state is a paradigmatic example of a highly entangled multipartite states with distinct quantum features. However, the GHZ state is very sensitive to generic decoherence processes, where its quantum features and in particular its entanglement diminish rapidly, thereby hindering possible practical applications e.g. in the context of quantum metrology. In this paper, we discuss GHZ-like quantum states with a block-local structure and show that they exhibit a drastically increased stability against noise for certain choices of block-encoding. We …
Realizing long distance entanglement swapping with independent sources in the real-world condition is important for both future quantum network and fundamental study of quantum theory. Currently, demonstration over a few of tens kilometer underground optical fiber has been achieved. However, future applications demand entanglement swapping over longer distance with more complicated environment. We exploit two independent 1-GHz-clock sequential time-bin entangled photon-pair sources, develop several automatic stability controls, and successfully implement a field test of entanglement swapping o…
We derive a general expression for standard tensor norm of $N$-body correlation tensors for $N$-qubit complete graph states. With the help of this expression, we formulate a separability criterion that identifies non-$k$-separability of a class of $N$-qubit complete graph states, including GHZ state. We illustrate the performance of our criterion by considering the $N$-qubit complete graph states added with colored product noise. We also demonstrate that few local measurement settings are sufficient to evaluate our criterion.
Solid-state qubit manipulation and read-out fidelities are reaching fault-tolerance, but quantum error correction requires millions of physical qubits and thus a scalable quantum computer architecture. To solve signal-line bandwidth and fan-out problems, microwave sources required for qubit manipulation might be embedded close to the qubit chip, typically operating at temperatures below 4 K. Here, we perform the first low temperature measurements of a 130 nm BiCMOS based SiGe voltage controlled oscillator. The device maintains its functionality from 300 K to 4 K. We determined the dependence o…
Quantum Computing has been evolving in the last years. Although nowadays quantum algorithms performance has shown superior to their classical counterparts, quantum decoherence and additional auxiliary qubits needed for error tolerance routines have been huge barriers for quantum algorithms efficient use. These restrictions lead us to search for ways to minimize algorithms costs, i.e the number of quantum logical gates and the depth of the circuit. For this, quantum circuit synthesis and quantum circuit optimization techniques are explored. We studied the viability of using Projective Simulatio…
