We examine the SLOCC classification of the (non-normalized) pure states of four qubits obtained by F. Verstraete et al. The rigorous proofs of their basic results are provided and necessary corrections implemented. We use Invariant Theory to solve the problem of equivalence of pure states under SLOCC transformations of determinant 1 and qubit permutations. As a byproduct, we produce a new set of generators for the invariants of the Weyl group of type F_4. We complete the determination of the tensor ranks of 4-qubit pure states initiated by J.-L. Brylinski. As a result we obtain a simple algorithm for computing these ranks. We obtain also a very simple classification of pure states of rank at most 3.
We define an entanglement measure, called the partial tangle, which represents the residual two-qubit entanglement of a three-qubit pure state. By its explicit calculations for three-qubit pure states, we show that the partial tangle is closely related to the faithfulness of a teleportation scheme over a three-qubit pure state.
We show that a necessary and sufficient condition for a set of $n$ one-qubit mixed states to be the reduced states of a pure $n$-qubit state is that their smaller eigenvalues should satisfy polygon inequalities: no one of them can exceed the sum of the others.
The Majorana representation of symmetric N-qubit states is employed here to investigate how correlation information of the whole pure symmetric state gets imprinted in its parts. It is shown that reduced states of (N - 1) qubits uniquely specify the entire class of pure N qubit states containing two distinct spinors.
We present a mapping which associates pure N-qubit states with a polynomial. The roots of the polynomial characterize the state completely. Using the properties of the polynomial we construct a way to determine the separability and the number of unentangled qubits of pure N-qubit states.
We propose a scheme for the detection of qubit-environment entanglement at time $τ$ which requires only operations and measurements on the qubit, all within reach of current experimental state-of-the-art. The scheme works for any type of interaction which leads to pure dephasing of the qubit as long as the initial qubit state is pure. It becomes particularly simple when one of the qubit states is neutral with respect to the environment, such as in case of the most common choice of the NV center spin qubit or for excitonic charge qubits, when the environment is initially at thermal equilibrium.
We consider a four-state pure bipartite system consisting of four qubits shared among two parties using the same Schmidt basis, two qubits per party. In some cases, transformation between two known pure states may not be possible using LOCC transformations but may be possible with the addition of a two-qubit catalyst. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for this to occur.
It is commonly assumed that Shor's quantum algorithm for the efficient factorization of a large number $N$ requires a pure initial state. Here we demonstrate that a single pure qubit together with a collection of $log_2 N$ qubits in an arbitrary mixed state is sufficient to implement Shor's factorization algorithm efficiently.
We study the trade-off relations on the maximal violation of CHSH tests for the multi-qubit pure states. Firstly, according to the classification of 3-qubit pure states under stochastic local operations and classical communication, four trade-off relations on CHSH tests are provided. The process of proof also provides the method of calculating its exact value. Then we consider the multi-qubit quantum systems, and we prove that the conjecture in [PRA 94, 042105 (2016)] is right for some special 4-qubit or more qubit pure states.
We study the entanglement classification under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) for odd n-qubit pure states. For this purpose, we introduce the rank with respect to qubit i for an odd n-qubit state. The ranks with respect to qubits 1,2,...,n give rise to the classification of the space of odd n qubits into 3^n families.
We study a relation between the concurrence of assistance and the Mermin inequality on three-qubit pure states. We find that if a given three-qubit pure state has the minimal concurrence of assistance greater than 1/2 then the state violates some Mermin inequality.
We propose a method to detect genuine quantum correlation for multi-qubit pure states. We then derive a complementarity relations for pure quantum states of N qubits. We prove that in all many-qubit systems there exist strict monogamy laws for quantum correlations. On the other hand, it is known that the entanglement monogamy equality proposed by Coffman, Kundu, and Wootters is in general not true for multiqubit states. Inducing from the CKW equality, we find a proper form of entanglement monogamy equality for arbitrary quantum states. The total quantum correlation of qubit k with the remainin…
We propose a criterion for the detection of genuine entanglement of pure multiqubit states. To this aim, we define an operator called the losing one qubit operator, which is different from the reduced density operator. The states obtained from a multiqubit state by applying the losing one qubit operator are referred to as its projected states. We show that all of the projected states of a pure product n-qubit state are pure product states provided that it cannot be written as a product of a single qubit state and a genuinely entangled (n-1)-qubit state. We also show that a pure n-qubit state i…
We introduce a set of Bell inequalities for a three-qubit system. Each inequality within this set is violated by all generalized GHZ states. More entangled a generalized GHZ state is, more will be the violation. This establishes a relation between nonlocality and entanglement for this class of states. Certain inequalities within this set are violated by pure biseparable states. We also provide numerical evidence that at least one of these Bell inequalities is violated by a pure genuinely entangled state. These Bell inequalities can distinguish between separable, biseparable and genuinely entan…
In this work we study the entanglement of pure fourpartite of qubit states. The analysis is realized through the comparison between two different entanglement measures: the Groverian entanglement measure and the residual entanglement measured with negativities. Furthemore, we discuss some applications of four-way entangled fourpartite states.
We construct a class of algebraic invariants for N-qubit pure states based on bipartite decompositions of the system. We show that they are entanglement monotones, and that they differ from the well know linear entropies of the sub-systems. They therefore capture new information on the non-local properties of multipartite systems.
In this paper we analyze the canonical forms into which any pure three-qubit state can be cast. The minimal forms, i.e. the ones with the minimal number of product states built from local bases, are also presented and lead to a complete classification of pure three-qubit states. This classification is related to the values of the polynomial invariants under local unitary transformations by a one-to-one correspondence.
A new form of local unitary (LU) transformation invariant is given for multi-qubit states . The general relation between tangle and the LU transformation invariant of pure three and four-qubit states is given. We find that the tangle actually is a special LU transformation invariant. Furthermore, the tangle is a important local unitary (LU) transformation invariant which is a nessesary condition for maximally multi-qubit entangled state.
We propose a qubit-environment entanglement measure which is tailored for evolutions that lead to pure dephasing of the qubit, such as are abundant in solid state scenarios. The measure can be calculated directly form the density matrix without minimization of any kind. In fact it does not require the knowledge of the full density matrix, and it is enough to know the initial qubit state and the states of the environment conditional on qubit pointer states. This yields a computational advantage over standard entanglement measures, which becomes large when there are no correlations between envir…
The necessary and sufficient conditions for minimization of the generalized rate error for discriminating among $N$ pure qubit states are reformulated in terms of Bloch vectors representing the states. For the direct optimization problem an algorithmic solution to these conditions is indicated. A solution to the inverse optimization problem is given. General results are widely illustrated by particular cases of equiprobable states and $N=2,3,4$ pure qubit states given with different prior probabilities.
In the case of bipartite two qubits systems, we derive the analytical expression of bound of Bell operator for any given pure state. Our result not only manifest some properties of Bell inequality, for example which may be violated by any pure entangled state and only be maximally violated for a maximally entangled state, but also give the explicit values of maximal violation for any pure state. Finally we point out that for two qubits systems there is no mixed state which can produce maximal violation of Bell inequality.
The two-qubit pure state is explicitly parameterized by three unit 2-spheres and a phase factor. For separable states, two of the three unit spheres are the Bloch spheres of each qubit. The third sphere parameterizes the degree and phase of concurrence, an entanglement measure. This sphere may be considered a variable complex imaginary unit where the stereographic projection maps the qubit-A Bloch sphere to a complex plane with this variable imaginary unit. This Bloch sphere model gives a consistent description of the two-qubit pure states for both separable and entangled states. We argue that…
We present optimal measuring strategies for the estimation of the entanglement of unknown two-qubit pure states and of the degree of mixing of unknown single-qubit mixed states, of which N identical copies are available. The most general measuring strategies are considered in both situations, to conclude in the first case that a local, although collective, measurement suffices to estimate entanglement, a non-local property, optimally.
We investigate the patterns in distributions of localizable entanglement over a pair of qubits for random multi-qubit pure states. We observe that the mean of localizable entanglement increases gradually with increasing the number of qubits of random pure states while the standard deviation of the distribution decreases. The effects on the distributions, when the random pure multi-qubit states are subjected to local as well as global noisy channels, are also investigated. Unlike the noiseless scenario, the average value of the localizable entanglement remains almost constant with the increase …
While building a universal quantum computer remains challenging, devices of restricted power such as the so-called one pure qubit model have attracted considerable attention. An important step in the construction of these limited quantum computational devices is the understanding of whether the verification of the computation within these models could be also performed in the restricted scheme. Encoding via blindness (a cryptographic protocol for delegated computing) has proven successful for the verification of universal quantum computation with a restricted verifier. In this paper, we presen…
We propose a general scheme to measure the concurrence of an arbitrary two-qubit pure state in atomic systems. The protocol is based on one- and two-qubit operations acting on two available copies of the bipartite system, and followed by a global qubit readout. We show that it is possible to encode the concurrence in the probability of finding all atomic qubits in the ground state. Two possible scenarios are considered: atoms crossing 3D microwave cavities and trapped ion systems.
This paper characterizes two forms of separability of pure states of systems of n qubits: (i) into a tensor product of n qubit states, and (ii), into a tensor product of 2 subsystems states of p and q qubits respectively with p+q=n. For both cases, necessary and sufficient conditions are proved in the form of minimal sets of equalities among pair-wise products of amplitudes. These conditions bear some relation with entanglement measures, and a number of more refined questions about separability in n qubit systems can be studied on the basis of these results.
Based on the quantitative complementarity relations, we analyze thoroughly the properties of multipartite quantum correlations and entanglement in four-qubit pure states. We find that, unlike the three-qubit case, the single residual correlation, the genuine three- and four-qubit correlations are not suited to quantify entanglement. More interestingly, from our qualitative and numerical analysis, it is conjectured that the sum of all the residual correlations may constitute a good measure for the total multipartite entanglement in the system.
How to uses shared entanglement and forward classical communication to remotely prepare an arbitrary (mixed or pure) state has been fascinating quantum information scientists. A constructive scheme has been given by Berry for remotely preparing a general pure state with a pure entangled state and finite classical communication. Based on this scheme, for high-dimensional systems it is possible to use a coding of the target state to optimize the classical communication cost. Unfortunately, for low-dimensional systems such as a pure qubit the coding method is inapplicable. Because qubit plays a c…
We study non-local properties of generic three-qubit pure states. First, we obtain the distributions of both the coefficients and the only phase in the five-term decomposition of Acín et al. for an ensemble of random pure states generated by the Haar measure on U(8). Furthermore, we analyze the probability distributions of two sets of polynomial invariants. One of these sets allows us to classify three-qubit pure states into four classes. Entanglement in each class is characterized using the minimal Rényi-Ingarden-Urbanik entropy. Besides, the fidelity of a three-qubit random state with the cl…
A simple three rules supplemented by five steps scheme is proposed to produce Kochen-Specker (KS) sets with 30 rank-2 projectors that occur twice each. The KS sets provide state-independent proof of KS theorem based on a system of three qubits. A small adjustment of the scheme enables us to manually generate a large number of KS sets with a mixture of rank-1 and rank-2 projectors.
Closed formulae for upper bound on three tangles of three-qubit reduced states in terms of three-qubit invariant polynomials of pure four-qubit states are obtained. Our results offer tighter constraints on total three-way entanglement of a given qubit with the rest of the system than those used in ref. [PRL 113, 110501 (2014), PRL 116, 049902(E) (2016)] to verify monogamy of four-qubit quantum entanglement.
Suppose, we are given two finite ensembles of pure qubit states, so that the qubits in each ensemble are prepared in identical (but unknown for us) states lying on the equator of the Bloch sphere. What is the best strategy to estimate fidelity between these two finite ensembles of qubit states? We discuss three possible strategies for the fidelity estimation. We show that the best strategy includes two stages: a specific unitary transformation on two ensembles and state estimation of the output states of this transformation.
Entanglement types of pure states of 3 qubits are classified by means of their stabilisers in the group of local unitary operations. It is shown that the stabiliser is generically discrete, and that a larger stabiliser indicates a stationary value for some local invariant. We describe all the exceptional states with enlarged stabilisers.
The (non-)local content in the sense of Elitzur, Popescu, and Rohrlich (EPR2) [Phys. Lett. A 162, 25 (1992)] is a natural measure for the (non-)locality of quantum states. Its computation is in general difficult, even in low dimensions, and is one of the few open questions about pure two-qubit states. We present a complete solution to this long-lasting problem.
Various parameterizations for the orbits under local unitary transformations of three-qubit pure states are analyzed. The interconvertibility, symmetry properties, parameter ranges, calculability and behavior under measurement are looked at. It is shown that the entanglement monotones of any multipartite pure state uniquely determine the orbit of that state under local unitary transformations. It follows that there must be an entanglement monotone for three-qubit pure states which depends on the Kempe invariant defined in [Phys. Rev. A 60, 910 (1999)]. A form for such an entanglement monotone …
We demonstrate one-sided device-independent self-testing of any pure entangled two-qubit state based on a fine-grained steering inequality. The maximum violation of a fine-grained steering inequality can be used to witness certain steerable correlations, which certify all pure two-qubit entangled states. Our experimental results identify which particular pure two-qubit entangled state has been self-tested and which measurement operators are used on the untrusted side. Furthermore, we analytically derive the robustness bound of our protocol, enabling our subsequent experimental verification of …
We show that the pure entangled three-qubit symmetric states which are inequivalent under stochastic local operations and classcial communication (SLOCC) exhibit distinct geometric representation in terms of a spheroid inscribed within the Bloch sphere. We provide detailed analysis of the SLOCC canonical forms of the reduced two-qubit states extracted from entangled three-qubit pure symmetric states. Based on the Lorentz canonical forms of these states we arrive at two different geometrical representations: (i) a prolate spheroid centered at the origin of the Bloch sphere -- with longest semia…
Recently, Meyer and Wallach [D.A. Meyer and N.R. Wallach (2002), J. of Math. Phys., 43, pp. 4273] proposed a measure of multi-qubit entanglement that is a function on pure states. We find that this function can be interpreted as a physical quantity related to the average purity of the constituent qubits and show how it can be observed in an efficient manner without the need for full quantum state tomography. A possible realization is described for measuring the entanglement of a chain of atomic qubits trapped in a 3D optical lattice.
The question of the generation of random mixed states is discussed, aiming for the computation of probabilistic characteristics of composite finite dimensional quantum systems. Particularly, we consider the generation of the random Hilbert-Schmidt and Bures ensembles of qubit and qutrit pairs and compute the corresponding probabilities to find a separable state among the states of a fixed rank.
We construct coefficient matrices of size 2^l by 2^{n-l} associated with pure n-qubit states and prove the invariance of the ranks of the coefficient matrices under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). The ranks give rise to a simple way of partitioning pure n-qubit states into inequivalent families and distinguishing degenerate families from one another under SLOCC. Moreover, the classification scheme via the ranks of coefficient matrices can be combined with other schemes to build a more refined classification scheme. To exemplify we classify the nine families of …
The Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm is experimentally demonstrated for three-qubit functions using pure coherent superpositions of Li$_{2}$ rovibrational eigenstates. The function's character, either constant or balanced, is evaluated by first imprinting the function, using a phase-shaped femtosecond pulse, on a coherent superposition of the molecular states, and then projecting the superposition onto an ionic final state, using a second femtosecond pulse at a specific time delay.
A necessary and sufficient condition of the possibility of a deterministic local operations and classical communication (LOCC) transformation of three-qubit pure states is given. The condition shows that the three-qubit pure states are a partially ordered set parametrized by five well-known entanglement parameters and a novel parameter; the five are the concurrences $C_{AB}$, $C_{AC}$, $C_{BC}$, the tangle $τ_{ABC}$ and the fifth parameter $J_{5}$ of Ref. [18], while the other new one is the entanglement charge $Q_{e}$. The order of the partially ordered set is defined by the possibility of a …
The problem of discriminating with minimum error between two mixed quantum states is reviewed, with emphasize on the detection operators necessary for performing the measurement. An analytical result is derived for the minimum probability of errors in deciding whether the state of a quantum system is either a given pure state or a uniform statistical mixture of any number of mutually orthogonal states. The result is applied to two-qubit states, and the minimum error probabilities achievable by collective and local measurements on the qubits are compared.
In a recent work [Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 170502 (2018)], Pallister et al. proposed an optimal strategy to verify non-maximally entangled two-qubit pure states under the constraint that the accessible measurements being locally projective and non-adaptive. Their nice result leads naturally to the question: What is the optimal strategy among general LOCC measurements? In this Letter, we answer this problem completely for two-qubit pure states. To be specific, we give the optimal strategy for each of the following available classes of measurements: (i) local operations and one-way classical commun…
We present the optimal scheme for estimating a pure qubit state by means of local measurements on N identical copies. We give explicit examples for low N. For large N, we show that the fidelity saturates the collective measurement bound up to order 1/N. When the signal state lays on a meridian of the Bloch sphere, we show that this can be achieved without classical communication.
The Groverian entanglement measure, G(psi), is applied to characterize a variety of pure quantum states |psi> of multiple qubits. The Groverian measure is calculated analytically for certain states of high symmetry, while for arbitrary states it is evaluated using a numerical procedure. In particular, it is calculated for the class of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states, the W states as well as for random pure states of n qubits. The entanglement generated by Grover's algorithm is evaluated by calculating G(psi) for the intermediate states that are obtained after t Grover iterations, for variou…
We show that for tripartite quantum pure states of qubits, all the kinds of entanglement in terms of SLOCC classification are experimentally measurable by simple projective measurements, provided that four copies of the composite quantum system are available. In particular, the entanglement of reduced density matrices, even though they are mixed states, can be exactly determined in experiment. Concurrence of assistance is also shown to be measurable by introducing an interesting equations with explicit physical meanings.
We report a set of monogamy constraints on one-tangle, two-tangles, three-tangles and four-way correlations of a general four-qubit pure state. It is found that given a two-qubit marginal state $ρ$ of a four qubit pure state $\left\vert Ψ_{4}\right\rangle $, the non-Hermitian matrix $ρ\widetildeρ$ where $\widetildeρ$ $=\left( σ_{y} \otimesσ_{y}\right) ρ^{\ast}\left( σ_{y}\otimesσ_{y}\right) $, contains information not only about the entanglement properties of the two-qubits in state $ρ$ but also about three tangles involving the selected pair as well as four-way correlations of the pair of qub…
We explore nonlocality of three-qubit pure symmetric states shared between Alice, Bob and Charlie using the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality. We make use of the elegant parametrization in the canonical form of these states, proposed by Meill and Meyer (Phys. Rev. A, 96, 062310 (2017)) based on Majorana geometric representation. The reduced two-qubit states, extracted from an arbitrary pure entangled symmetric three-qubit state do not violate the CHSH inequality and hence they are CHSH-local. However, when Alice and Bob perform a CHSH test, after conditioning over measurement result…
In this paper we investigate the entanglement of multi-qubit fermionic coherent states described by anticommutative Grassmann numbers. Choosing an appropriate weight function, we show that it is possible to construct some entangled pure states, consisting of {\bf{GHZ}}, {\bf{W}}, Bell and biseparable states, by tensor product of fermion coherent states. Moreover a comparison with maximal entangled bosonic coherent states is presented and it is shown that in some cases they have fermionic counterpart which are maximal entangled after integration with suitable weight functions.
We consider the problem of $1$-sided device-independent self-testing of any pure entangled two-qubit state based on steering inequalities which certify the presence of quantum steering. In particular, we note that in the $2-2-2$ steering scenario (involving $2$ parties, $2$ measurement settings per party, $2$ outcomes per measurement setting), the maximal violation of a fine-grained steering inequality can be used to witness certain extremal steerable correlations, which certify all pure two-qubit entangled states. We demonstrate that the violation of analogous CHSH inequality of steering or n…
We present a general algorithm to achieve local operators which can produce the GHZ state for an arbitrary given three-qubit state. Thus the distillation process of the state can be realized optimally. The algorithm is shown to be sufficient for the three-qubit state on account of the fact that any state for which this distillation algorithm is invalid cannot be distilled to the GHZ state by any local actions. Moreover, an analytical result of distillation operations is achieved for the general state of three qubits.
In this note we consider optimised circuits for implementing Shor's quantum factoring algorithm. First I give a circuit for which none of the about 2n qubits need to be initialised (though we still have to make the usual 2n measurements later on). Then I show how the modular additions in the algorithm can be carried out with a superposition of an arithmetic sequence. This makes parallelisation of Shor's algorithm easier. Finally I show how one can factor with only about 1.5n qubits, and maybe even fewer.
We define a semantic complexity class based on the model of quantum computing with just one pure qubit (as introduced by Knill and Laflamme) and discuss its computational power in terms of the problem of estimating the trace of a large unitary matrix. We show that this problem is complete for the complexity class, and derive some further fundamental features of the class. We conclude with a discussion of some associated open conjectures and new oracle separations between classes.
The spin-coherent-state positive-operator-valued-measure (POVM) is a fundamental measurement in quantum science, with applications including tomography, metrology, teleportation, benchmarking, and measurement of Husimi phase space probabilities. We prove that this POVM is achieved by collectively measuring the spin projection of an ensemble of qubits weakly and isotropically. We apply this in the context of optimal tomography of pure qubits. We show numerically that through a sequence of weak measurements of random directions of the collective spin component, sampled discretely or in a continu…
