In this paper, we introduce the notion of conditional $h$-convex functions and we prove an operator version of the Jensen inequality for conditional $h$-convex functions. Using this type of functions, we give some refinements for Ky-Fan's inequality, arithmetic-geometric mean inequality, Chrystal inequality, and H$\ddot{o}$lder-McCarthy inequality. Many of the other inequalities can be refined by applying this new notion.
We give the Choi-Davis-Jensen type inequality without using convexity. Applying our main results, we also give new inequalities improving previous known results. In particular, we show some inequalities for relative operator entropies and quantum mechanical entropies.
In this paper the Jessen's type inequality for normalized positive $C_0$-semigroups is obtained. An adjoint of Jessen's type inequality has also been derived for the corresponding adjoint-semigroup, which does not give the analogous results but the behavior is still interesting. Moreover, it is followed by some results regarding positive definiteness and exponential convexity of complex structures involving operators from a semigroup.
Mercer inequality for convex functions is a variant of Jensen's inequality, with an operator version that is still valid without operator convexity. This paper is two folded. First, we present a Mercer-type inequality for operators without assuming convexity nor operator convexity. Yet, this form refines the known inequalities in the literature. Second, we present a log-convex version for operators. We then use these results to refine some inequalities related to quasi-arithmetic means of Mercer's type for operators.
We study the following problem: given n real arguments a1, ..., an and n real weights w1, ..., wn, under what conditions does the inequality w1 f(a1) + w2 f(a2) + ... + wn f(an) >= 0 hold for all functions f with nonnegative kth derivative for some given integer k? Using simple combinatorial techniques, we can prove many generalizations of theorems ranging from the Fuchs inequality to the criterion for Schur convexity.
The main goal of this article is to find the exact difference between a convex function and its secant, as a limit of positive quantities. This idea will be expressed as a convex inequality that leads to refinements and reversals of well established inequalities treating different means. The significance of these inequalities is to write one inequality that brings together and refine almost all known inequalities treating the arithmetic, geometric, harmonic and Heinz means, for numbers and operators.
The main target of this paper is to discuss operator Hermite--Hadamard inequality for convex functions, without appealing to operator convexity. Several forms of this inequality will be presented and some applications including norm and mean inequalities will be shown too.
Convex functions have played a major role in the field of Mathematical inequalities. In this paper, we introduce a new concept related to convexity, which proves better estimates when the function is somehow more convex than another. In particular, we define what we called $g-$convexity as a generalization of $\log-$convexity. Then we prove that $g-$convex functions have better estimates in certain known inequalities like the Hermite-Hadard inequality, super additivity of convex functions, the Majorization inequality and some means inequalities. Strongly related to this, we define the index of…
We give an extension of Hua's inequality in pre-Hilbert $C^*$-modules without using convexity or the classical Hua's inequality. As a consequence, some known and new generalizations of this inequality are deduced. Providing a Jensen inequality in the content of Hilbert $C^*$-modules, another extension of Hua's inequality is obtained. We also present an operator Hua's inequality, which is equivalent to operator convexity of given continuous real function.
In this paper, we obtain some new estimations of Iyengar-type inequality in which quasi-convex(quasi-concave) functions are involved. These estimations are improvements of some recently obtained estimations. Some error estimations for the trapezoidal formula are given. Applications for special means are also provided.
We determine the sharpest constant $C_{p,q,r}$ such that for all complex matrices $X$ and $Y$, and for Schatten $p$-, $q$- and $r$-norms the inequality $$ \|XY-YX\|_p\leq C_{p,q,r}\|X\|_q\|Y\|_r $$ is valid. The main theoretical tool in our investigations is complex interpolation theory.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a von Neumann algebra equipped with a faithful semifinite normal weight $ϕ$ and $\mathcal{N}$ be a von Neumann subalgebra of $\mathcal{M}$ such that the restriction of $ϕ$ to $\mathcal{N}$ is semifinite and such that $\mathcal{N}$ is invariant by the modular group of $ϕ$. Let $\mathcal{E}$ be the weight preserving conditional expectation from $\mathcal{M}$ onto $\mathcal{N}$. We prove the following inequality: \[\|x\|_p^2\ge\bigl \|\mathcal{E}(x)\bigr\|_p^2+(p-1)\bigl\|x-\mathcal{E}(x)\bigr\|_p^2, \qquad x\in L_p(\mathcal{M}),1<p\le2,\] which extends the celebrated Ball-Ca…
We introduce the notion of an interpolating path on the set of probability measures on finite graphs. Using this notion, we first prove a displacement convexity property of entropy along such a path and derive Prekopa-Leindler type inequalities, a Talagrand transport-entropy inequality, certain HWI type as well as log-Sobolev type inequalities in discrete settings. To illustrate through examples, we apply our results to the complete graph and to the hypercube for which our results are optimal -- by passing to the limit, we recover the classical log-Sobolev inequality for the standard Gaussian …
In this work, an operator superquadratic function (in operator sense) for positive Hilbert space operators is defined. Several examples with some important properties together with some observations which are related to the operator convexity are pointed out. Equivalent statements of a non-commutative version of Jensen's inequality for operator superquadratic function are established. A generalization of the main result to any positive unital linear map is also provided.
Matrix versions of some basic convexity inequalities are given. Further results on the same topic are proved in the recent papers on arxiv: 1. Hermitian operators and convex functions, 2. A concavity inequality for symmetric norms, 3. Eigenvalue inequalities for convex and log-convex functions (with Jaspal Singh AUJLA).
In this paper we consider a generalized conditional-type Holder- inequality and investigate some classic properties of multiplication conditional expectation type operators on Orlicz-spaces.
We give a transport proof of a discrete version of the displacement convexity of entropy on integers (Z), and get, as a consequence, two discrete forms of the Pr{é}kopa-Leindler Inequality : the Four Functions Theorem of Ahlswede and Daykin on the discrete hypercube [1] and a recent result on Z due to Klartag and Lehec [16].
We analyze the role played by $n$-convexity for the fulfillment of a series of linear functional inequalities that extend the Hornich-Hlawka functional inequality, $f\left( x\right) +f\left( y\right) +f\left( z\right) +f\left( x+y+z\right) \geq f\left( x+y\right) +f\left( y+z\right)+f\left( z+x\right) +f(0),$ including extensions to the case of positive operators.
We investigate how the type of Convexity of the Core function affects the Csiszár $f$-divergence functional. A general treatment for the type of convexity has been considered and the associated perspective functions have been studied. In particular, it has been shown that when the core function is \rm{MN}-convex, then the associated perspective function is jointly \rm{MN}-convex if the two scalar mean \rm{M} and \rm{N} are the same. In the case where $\mathrm{M}\neq\mathrm{N}$, we study the type of convexity of the perspective function. As an application, we prove that the \textit{Hellinger di…
We prove that for any (trace-preserving) conditional expectation $\mathcal E$ on a noncommutative $L_p$ with $p>2$, $Id-\mathcal E$ is a contraction on the positive cone $L_p^+$.
We re-confirm, for the case of the unit p-ball of R^n, one of recent conjectures of G.Kuperberg on centrally symmetric convex bodies. This conjecture was very recently confirmrd for this particular case by D.A.Gutierrez using polygamma functions and convexity theory. We present another proof using only the basic properties of gamma function and mildly advanced classical analysis tools.
In this paper, we prove that the distance function of an open connected set in $\mathbb R^{n+1}$ with a $C^{2}$ boundary is superharmonic in the distribution sense if and only if the boundary is {\em weakly mean convex}. We then prove that Hardy inequalities with a sharp constant hold on {weakly mean convex} $C^{2}$ domains. Moreover, we show that the {weakly mean convexity} condition cannot be weakened. We also prove various improved Hardy inequalities on mean convex domains along the line of Brezis-Marcus \cite{BM}.
