We consider a subgroup of unitary transformations on a mode of light induced by a Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and an algebra of observables describing a photon-number detector proceeded by an interferometer. We explore the uncertainty principles between such observables and their usefulness in performing a Bell-like experiment to show a violation of the CHSH inequality, under physical assumption that the detector distinguishes only zero from non-zero number of photons. We show which local settings of the interferometers lead to a maximal violation of the CHSH inequality.
Based on the generators of $SU(n)$ we present inequalities for detecting quantum entanglement for $2 \otimes d$ and $M \otimes N$ systems. These inequalities provide a sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite mixed states and give rise to an experimental way of entanglement detection.
We present the general scheme for construction of noiseless networks detecting entanglement with the help of linear, hermiticity-preserving maps. We show how to apply the method to detect entanglement of unknown state without its prior reconstruction. In particular, we prove there always exists noiseless network detecting entanglement with the help of positive, but not completely positive maps. Then the generalization of the method to the case of entanglement detection with arbitrary, not necessarily hermiticity-preserving, linear contractions on product states is presented.
We review the criteria for separability and quantum entanglement, both in a bipartite as well as a multipartite setting. We discuss Bell inequalities, entanglement witnesses, entropic inequalities, bound entanglement and several features of multipartite entanglement. We indicate how these criteria bear on the experimental detection of quantum entanglement.
Monogamy of bipartite correlations leads, for arbitrary pure multi-qubit states, to simple conditions able to indicate various types of multipartite entanglement by being capable to exclude the possibility of k-separability.
We present entanglement witness operators for detecting genuine multipartite entanglement. These witnesses are robust against noise and require only two local measurement settings when used in an experiment, independent from the number of qubits. This allows detection of entanglement for an increasing number of parties without a corresponding increase in effort. The witnesses presented detect states close to GHZ, cluster and graph states. Connections to Bell inequalities are also discussed.
We derive necessary conditions in terms of the variances of position and momentum linear combinations for all kinds of separability of a multi-party multi-mode continuous-variable state. Their violations can be sufficient for genuine multipartite entanglement, provided the combinations contain both conjugate variables of all modes. Hence a complete state determination, for example by detecting the entire correlation matrix of a Gaussian state, is not needed.
We explore the possibility of entanglement detection in continuous variable systems by entanglement witnesses based on covariance matrices, constructible from random homodyne measurements. We propose new linear constraints characterizing the entanglement witnesses based on second moments, and use them in a semidefinite program providing the optimal entanglement test for given random measurements. We test the method on the class of squeezed vacuum states and study the efficiency of entanglement detection in general unknown covariance matrices.
We show a general approach for detecting genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) and partial inseparability in many-body-systems by means of macroscopic observables (such as the energy) only. We show that the obtained criteria, the "GME gap" and "the k-entanglement gap", detect large areas of genuine multipartite entanglement and partial entanglement in typical many body states, which are not detected by other criteria. It is possible to achieve an arbitrary amount of entanglement between two atoms using only spontaneously emitted photons, linear optics, single photon sources and projective measurements. This is in contrast to all current experimental proposals for entangling two atoms, which are fundamentally restricted to one entanglement bit or ebit.

We construct a set of criteria detecting genuine multipartite entanglement in arbitrary dimensional multipartite systems. These criteria are optimally suited for detecting multipartite entanglement in n-qubit Dicke states with m-excitations. In a detailed analysis we show that the criteria are also more robust to noise than any other criterion known so far, especially with increasing system size. Furthermore it is shown that the number of required local observables scales only polynomially with size, thus making the criteria experimentally feasible.
The problem of entanglement detection is a long standing problem in quantum information theory. One of the primary procedures of detecting entanglement is to find the suitable positive but non-completely positive maps. In quantum information theory, the reliable and effective detection of entanglement is of paramount importance. However, given an unknown state, assessing its entanglement is a challenging task. To attack this problem, we investigate the use of random local measurements, from which entanglement witnesses are then constructed via semidefinite programming methods. We propose a scheme of successively increasing the number of measurements until the presence of entanglement can be unambiguously concluded, and investigate its performance in various examples.
We present a set of inequalities for detecting quantum entanglement of $2\otimes d$ quantum states. For $2\otimes 2$ and $2\otimes 3$ systems, the inequalities give rise to sufficient and necessary separability conditions for both pure and mixed states. We derive several entanglement conditions employing non-hermitian operators. We start with two conditions that were derived previously for field mode operators, and use them to derive conditions that can be used to show the existence of field-atom entanglement and entanglement between groups of atoms. An uncertainty relation is introduced for a symmetric arrangement of three mutually unbiased bases in continuous variable phase space, and then used to derive a bipartite entanglement criterion based on the variance of global operators composed of these three phase space variables. We test this criterion using spatial variables of photon pairs, and show that the entangled photons are correlated in three pairs of bases.
We present a criterion for multiparticle entanglement based on covariance matrices. On the one hand, the criterion allows to detect bound entangled states which are not detected by other criteria; on the other hand, some strongly entangled pure states such as the GHZ states are not detected. We show, however, that this is a general phenomenon: No separability criterion based on two-particle correlations can recognize the entanglement in the family of graph states, to which the GHZ states belong.
We devise a novel protocol to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states by harnessing quantum non-Markovian operations. We utilize a particular type of non-Markovianity known as the eternal non-Markovianity to construct a non-complete positive map to filter out the bi-separable states and detect genuine multipartite entanglement. We further propose a witness operator to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states experimentally based on this theory. Our study sheds light on a hitherto unexplored connection between entanglement theory and quantum non-Markovianity.
We derive a set of Bell-type inequalities for arbitrarily high-dimensional systems, based on the assumption of partial separability in the hybrid local-nonlocal hidden variable model. Partially entangled states would not violate the inequalities, and thus upon violation, these Bell-type inequalities are sufficient conditions to detect the full $N$-particle entanglement and validity of the hybrid local-nonlocal hidden variable description.
Quadrature squeezed cylindrically polarized modes contain entanglement not only in the polarization and spatial electric field variables but also between these two degrees of freedom [1]. In this paper we present tools to generate and detect this entanglement. Experimentally we demonstrate the generation of quadrature squeezing in cylindrically polarized modes by mode transforming a squeezed Gaussian mode. The proposed inequality is optimal for the state under consideration and robust against particle losses up to 2/3. We present a general argument showing that the temperature as well as other thermodynamical state variables can qualify as entanglement witnesses for spatial entanglement. This holds for a variety of systems and we exemplify our ideas using a simple free non-interacting Bosonic gas. We find that entanglement can exist at arbitrarily high temperatures, provided that we can probe smaller and smaller regions of space. We discuss an experimentally amenable class of two-particle states of motion giving rise to nonlocal spatial interference under position measurements. Using the concept of modular variables, we derive a separability criterion which is violated by these non-Gaussian states. While we focus on the free motion of material particles, the presented results are valid for any pair of canonically conjugate continuous variable observables and should apply to a variety of bipartite interference phenomena.

We propose a scheme for the observation of micro-macro entanglement in photon number based on amplifying and de-amplifying a single-photon entangled state in combination with homodyne quantum state tomography. We present a method for detecting the entanglement of a state using non-equilibrium processes. A comparison of relative entropies allows us to construct an entanglement witness. The relative entropy can further be related to the quantum Jarzynski equality, allowing non-equilibrium work to be used in entanglement detection. To exemplify our results, we consider two different spin chains.
We discuss the problem of determining whether the state of several quantum mechanical subsystems is entangled. As in previous work on two subsystems we introduce a procedure for checking separability that is based on finding state extensions with appropriate properties and may be implemented as a semidefinite program. We introduce a sequence of numerical tests that can determine the entanglement or separability of a state even when there is not enough information to completely determine its density matrix. We present methods for detecting entanglement around symmetric Dicke states. In particular, we consider N-qubit symmetric Dicke states with N/2 excitations. In the first part of the paper we show that for large N these states have the smallest overlap possible with states without genuine multi-partite entanglement.
