Precise determination of top-quark pairs is an essential tool for understanding the overall consistency of the standard model (SM) expectations, understanding limited New Physics (NP) models, through spin-spin correlation and polarization parameters, and has a critical impact on the analyses strategies at upcoming LHC programs. In this work, we review and discuss various state-of-the-art Monte Carlo (MC) methodologies as \textsc{MadGraph5}\_aMC@NLO, \textsc{Sherpa}, \textsc{Powheg-Box} and \textsc{Pythia8}, which are Matrix Element (ME)$/$Parton Shower (PS) matching generators including a complete set of spin correlation and polarization in top quark pair production with dileptonic final states. This is the first such study that not only compares the effects of different MC event generator approaches on spin density matrix elements and polarization parameters, but also investigates the effects of leading order (LO) and next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy in QCD, and electroweak (EW) corrections via \textsc{Sherpa}. Moreover, as a continuation of the work, the prospects for possible NP scenarios through top-quark spin-spin correlation and polarization measurements for Supersymmetry (R parity conserved and violated models) and Dark Matter (top quarks associated mediator) models during upcoming LHC runs are briefly outlined. We find that all SM MC predictions for the defined set of variables are generally consistent with the experimental data and theoretical predictions within the uncertainty variations. Besides, for the distributions of the $\cosφ$, laboratory-frame observables ($\cosφ_{lab}$ and $|Δϕ_{ll}|$) and the observables generated by parity (P) and charge-parity (CP) conserving interactions, we conclude some clues that the considered signals and beyond may well be separated from experimental data and located above the SM predictions.
Longstanding puzzles in spin physics can be confronted at the high energies of the LHC. Will large s-quark and c-quark polarization be observed through heavy hyperon production? Top quarks are expected to have significant polarization - single spin asymmetries. How can such observations sort out possible QCD mechanisms? Leptoproduction provides a means to access those mechanisms. TMDs, GPDs and Fracture Functions all provide different model approaches to the polarization phenomena. Their implications will be described.
Polarization observables in top quark decays are sensitive probes of possible new physics contributions to the interactions of the heavy third generation quarks. Within an effective theory approach such new physics contributions can be classified in terms of several higher dimensional operators. We investigate the interplay between indirect constraints on such operators, coming mainly from rare B physics processes, and direct measurements of top polarization observables at the LHC.
We estimate model-independent bounds that could be obtained on the anomalous $ZZH$ vertex using polarization parameters of the $Z$ boson produced in the Higgstrahlung process at the LHC. We calculate the eight independent polarization parameters from the spin density matrix elements of the $Z$, which can probe underlying new physics contributions to $ZH$ production. By using the approach that connects these polarization observables to the coefficients in the angular distribution of the decay products of the $Z$, we estimate the limits on the anomalous $ZZH$ coupling that can be obtained at the…
We examine a method of studying the Z polarization in $H\to ZZ \to \ell^+ \ell^- ν\barν$ in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Included are the dominant contributions: gluon fusion production of the Higgs boson, continuum production of Z pairs, and the Z+missing jet QCD background. The polarization signal is distinguishable from the background for Higgs masses less than or equal to $\sim 700$ GeV, for an integrated luminosity of 10^5 pb^{-1}.
We show how the $W$ boson polarization in the process of associated $W^{\pm}H$ production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can be used to constrain anomalous $WWH$ couplings. We first calculate the spin density matrix for the $W$ to linear order in the anomalous couplings, which are assumed to be small. We then evaluate angular asymmetries in the decay distributions of leptons produced in the decay of the $W$ and show how they can be used to measure the individual elements of the polarization tensor. We estimate the limits that can be placed on the anomalous $WWH$ couplings at a future run o…
The possibility of beauty baryon polarization measurement by cascade decay angular distribution analysis in the channel Lambda0 J/psi --> p pi- l+ l- is demonstrated. The error analysis shows that in the proposed LHC experiment ATLAS at the luminosity $10^{4} pb^{-1}$ the polarization can be measured with the statistical precision better than $δ=0.010$ for Lambda_b0 and $δ=0.17$ for Xi_b0.
Transverse polarization of Lambda hyperons produced in p p and p Pb collisions is discussed. A factorized description in the intermediate to high p_T region is considered that involves transverse momentum and spin dependence in the fragmentation process. Consequences and suggestions for investigations at LHC are pointed out for the process p + p -> Lambda^uparrow + jets + X at midrapidity and p + p/Pb -> Lambda^uparrow + X in the forward region.
We propose a new type of Z polarization asymmetry in bottom-Z production at LHC that should be realistically measurable and would provide the determination of the so-called $A_b$ parameter, whose available measured value still appears to be in disagreement with the Standard Model prediction. This polarization can be measured independently of a possible existence of Supersymmetry. If Supersymmetry is found, a second polarization, i.e. the top longitudinal polarization in top-charged Higgs production, would neatly identify the $\tan β$ parameter. In this case, the value of $A_b$ should be in agr…
WZ production is an important process at the LHC because it probes the non-Abelian structureof electroweak interactions and it is a background process for many new physics searches. In the quest for new physics, polarization observables of the W and Z bosons can play an important role. They can be extracted from measurements and can be calculated using the Standard Model. In this contribution, we define fiducial polarization observables of the W and Z bosons and discuss the effects of next-to-leading order electroweak and QCD corrections in the Standard Model.
The opposite states of the $τ$ polarization resulting from the charged Higgs boson and the $W$ boson decays can be exploited to enhance the $H^\pm$ signal in the inclusive 1-prong hadronic decay channel of $τ$. We suggest practical methods of sharpening up the $H^\pm$ signature in the top quark decay at LHC using this idea. As a result one can carry on the charged Higgs boson search to within $\sim 20 GeV$ of the parent top quark mass over the full parameter space of the MSSM.
We explore how the polarization of the tau leptons in the cascade decay $\tilde{q}\to q\tildeχ^0_2\to qτ\tildeτ\to qττ\tildeχ^0_1$ can be exploited to study mixing properties of neutralinos and staus. We present details of the analysis including experimental effects such as transverse momentum cuts for the $τ\toπν$ decay mode, and show that the di-pion invariant mass distribution provides valuable information on their properties.
Transverse momentum dependent gluon distributions encode fundamental information on the structure of the proton. Here we show how they can be accessed in heavy quarkonium production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. In particular, their first determination could come from the study of an isolated J/psi or Upsilon particle, produced back to back with a photon.
Based on nonrelativistic QCD, we present the first complete next-to-leading order study on the polarization of prompt J/psi hadroproduction by including feeddown from chi_c(^3P_J^1,^3S_1^8) and psi(2s) which turn out to be a very important part. By using the color-octet long-distance matrix elements obtained from a combined fit of the differential cross section measurements at the Tevatron and LHC for J/psi, psi(2s) and chi_c with p_t>7GeV, the prompt J/psi polarization predictions are presented, and the results are in agree with the CDF Run-I data (except two points), but in conflict with the…
We study the pair production of charged gauge bosons at the LHC in a noncommutative extension of the standard model. We use angular distributions in the decays of the gauge bosons to partially reconstruct polarized cross sections. We use this, together with CP considerations, to construct more sensitive observables that allow to separate space-time from space-space noncommutativities.
We evaluate the feasibility of measuring the $Z$ polarization from a heavy Higgs signal in the decay channel $H\rightarrow ZZ \rightarrow \ell^+ \ell^-ν\barν$. Including gluon fusion production of the Higgs, continuum production of $Z$ pairs and the QCD background of single $Z$ production with a missing jet, we find that the average value of a new variable to measure the $Z$ polarization, as a function of transverse mass, will demonstrate the existence of a Higgs boson for heavy Higgs masses up to 800 GeV at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 10$^5$ pb$^{-1}$.
The next to leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to J/psi polarization of hadronproduction at Tevatron and LHC are calculated. The results show that the J/psi polarization is extremely changed from more transversal polarization at leading order (LO) into more longitudinal polarization at NLO. Although it gives more longitudinal polarization than the recent experimental result on the J/psi polarization at Tevatron. It sheds light on the solution to the large discrepancy of J/psi polarization between theoretical predication and experimental measurement, and suggests that the next important step i…
A detailed study of top-quark polarizations and $t \bar t$ charge asymmetries, induced by top-squark-pair production at the LHC and the subsequent decays $\tilde t \to t \tilde χ_1^0$, is performed within the effective description of squark interactions, which includes the effective Yukawa couplings and another logarithmic term encoding the supersymmetry breaking. This effective approach is more suitable for its introduction into Monte-Carlo simulations and we make use of its implementation in {\tt MadGraph} in order to investigate the possibilities of the charge asymmetry $A_\text{C}$, measur…
The mSUGRA model predicts the polarization of the tau coming from the stau to bino decay in the co-annihilation region to be +1. This can be exploited to extract this soft tau signal at LHC and also to measure the tiny mass differences between the stau and the bino LSP. Moreover this strategy will be applicable for a wider class of bino LSP models, where the lighter stau has a right component at least of similar size as the left.
We study the effect of the neutralino polarization in a squark cascade decay $\tilde{q} \to q \tildeχ^0_2 \to q l^\pm \tilde{l}^\mp \to q l^\pm \tilde{l}^\mp \to q l^\pm l^\mp \tildeχ^0_1$. Charge asymmetry in the lepton-jet invariant mass distribution appears depending on the chirality structure of the sfermion-fermion-neutralino coupling. With use of the Monte Carlo simulation, we show that the asymmetry is measurable in LHC. We also show that the distribution of the charge asymmetry is sensitive to the (s)lepton flavor.
In the minimal SUGRA model the lighter tau slepton is expected to be the second lightest superparticle over a large parameter range at large $\tanβ$. Consequently one expects a viable SUGRA signal at LHC in the tau lepton channel coming from the decay of these tau sleptons. The model predicts the polarization of this tau lepton to be +1 to a very good accuracy. We show how this prediction can be tested by looking at the momentum fraction of the tau-jet, carried by the charged prong, in its 1-prong hadronic decay channel.

The $τ$ polarization can be easily measured at LHC in the 1-prong hadronic $τ$ decay channel by measuring what fraction of the $τ$-jet momentum is carried by the charged track. A simple cut requiring this fraction to be >0.8 retains most of the polarization of $τ=$+1 $τ$-jet signal while suppressing the polarization of $τ=$-1 $τ$-jet background and practically eliminating the fake $τ$ background. This can be utilized to extract the charged Higgs signal. It can be also utilized to extract the SUSY signal in the stau NLSP region, and in particular the stau co-annihilaton region.
In the framework of kt-factorization approach, the production and polarization of prompt psi(2S) mesons in pp collisions at the LHC energies is studied. Our consideration is based on the non-relativistic QCD formalism for bound states and off-shell amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses. The transverse momentum dependent (unintegrated) gluon densities in a proton were derived from Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini evolution equation or, alternatively, were chosen in accordance with Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. The non-perturbative color-octet matrix elements were first deduced from …
In this work, we present more detail of the calculation on the NLO QCD corrections to polarization of direct J/psi production via color singlet at Tevatron and LHC, as well as the results for Upsilon for the first time. Our results show that the J/psi polarization status drastically changes from transverse polarization dominant at LO into longitudinal polarization dominant in the whole range of the transverse momentum $p_t$ of J/psi when the NLO corrections are counted. For Upsilon production, the p_t distribution of the polarization status behaves almost the same as that for J/psi except that…
We show that the production of a Higgs boson in association with a jet in proton-proton collisions is sensitive to the linear polarization of gluons inside unpolarized protons. We present the analytical expressions, at leading order in perturbative QCD, for various transverse momentum dependent observables, which can be measured at the LHC. Since there are no experimental constraints on the linearly polarized gluon distribution, its effects are studied by adopting two different models. In particular, we find that the $\cos2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry is a very promising observable because it could …
We analyze the inclusive prompt production of $ψ^\prime$, $χ_c$, $J/ψ$ and $η_c$ mesons at the LHC using the $k_T$-factorization approach. Our consideration is based on the off-shell production amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses, nonrelativistic QCD formalism for the formation of bound states and transverse momentum dependent (or unintegrated) gluon densities in a proton derived from Catani-Ciafaloni-Fiorani-Marchesini equation. The nonperturbative color octet transitions are treated in terms of the multipole radiation theory. We extract the corresponding long-distance matrix elements f…
If a TeV-scale charged gauge boson (W') is discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), it will become imperative to determine its chiral couplings to standard model (SM) fermions in order to learn about the underlying theory containing the W'. We describe the reconstruction of the t, b decay mode of the W' at the LHC, and identify various kinematic observables such as the angular distributions of the top quark and the lepton resulting from top decay that can be used to disentangle the chiral couplings of the W' to SM fermions. We demonstrate by presenting analytical expressions, numerical s…
We analyze, within several parameter scenarios of type-II two-Higgs doublet extensions of the standard model, the impact of heavy neutral Higgs-boson resonances on top-quark pair production and their subsequent decay to dileptonic final states at the LHC (13 TeV). In particular, we investigate the effects of heavy Higgs bosons on top-spin observables, that is, the longitudinal top-quark polarization and top-quark spin correlations. We take into account NLO QCD as well as weak interaction corrections and show that top-spin observables, if evaluated in judiciously chosen top-quark pair invariant…
Supersymmetry (SUSY) with a long-lived stau is an attractive scenario in the LHC experiments because one can directly observe stau tracks in each SUSY event, and thus precise measurements of SUSY particle masses are possible. In this scenario, we discuss the possibility to observe/measure parity violation in interactions among SUSY particles. Such a measurement will be important in determining spins and chiralities of SUSY particles. We use the last step of the cascade-decay chain: $χ^0\to\tildeττ\to\tildeτ(lν\barν)$, where the polarization of the tau lepton can be determined statistically by …
In the framework of $k_T$-factorization approach, the production and polarization of prompt $J/ψ$ mesons at the LHC energies is studied. Our consideration is based on the non-relativistic QCD formalism for bound states and off-shell amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses. Both the direct production mechanism and feed-down contributions from $χ_c$ and $ψ(2S)$ decays are taken into account. The transverse momentum dependent (or unintegrated) gluon densities in a proton were derived from Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini evolution equation or, alternatively, were chosen in accordance with Ki…
In this paper a general method to measure the longitudinal polarization of $τ$ lepton in the process $pp \rightarrow Z^{0} \rightarrow ττ$ is described. The method of optimal observable allows to distinguish between the $τ$ lepton helicity states with maximum possible sensitivity. The optimal observable for the main $τ$ decay modes ($e/μνν$, $πν$, $ρν$, $a_{1}ν$) that can be identified by CMS or ATLAS detectors is described. The analyzing power for $τ$ polarization can be further gained by taking into account a correlation between longitudinal spin states of $τ^{+}$ and $τ^{-}$. The theoretica…
We study the charge asymmetry between the $t$ and $\bar t$ quark at the LHC, when they are produced in association with a $W$ boson. Though sizably reducing the cross section with respect to the inclusive production, requiring a $W$ boson in the final state has two important implications. First, at leading order in QCD, $t \bar t W^{\pm}$ production can only occur via $q \bar q$ annihilation. As a result, the asymmetry between the $t$ and $\bar t$ generated at NLO in QCD is significantly larger than that of inclusive $t \bar t$ production, which is dominated by gluon fusion. Second, the top qu…
This is a master's thesis and it is written in Lithuanian language. The goal of this thesis is to predict the polarization of a τ-particle produced at the LHC and coming from a real W boson. This is achieved by calculating the projection of the expectation value of the polarization vector of the τ-particle. Calculations are done in the frame of the Standard Model. In this model only left-chiral currents couple to W bosons. The mass of the τ-particle is left non-zero, therefore one can see the influence of helicity mixing on polarization. The initial colliding particles at the LHC are protons a…
We survey the expected polarization of the top produced in the decay of a scalar top quark, $\tilde t \rightarrow {\tilde t}χ_i^0, i =1-2$. The phenomenology is quite interesting, since the expected polarization depends both on the mixing in the stop and neutralino sectors and on the mass differences between the stop and the neutralino. We find that a mixed stop behaves almost like a right-handed stop due to the larger hypercharge that enters the stop/top/gaugino coupling and that these polarisation effects disappear, when $m_{\tilde t_1} \approx m_t+m_{\tildeχ^0_i}$. After a discussion on the…
We study the polarization of positively charged $W$'s in the scattering of massive electroweak bosons at hadron colliders. We rely on the separation of weak boson polarizations in the gauge-invariant, doubly-resonant part of the amplitude in Monte Carlo simulations. Polarizations depend on the reference frame in which they are defined. We discuss the change in polarization fractions and in kinematic distributions arising from defining polarization vectors in two different reference frames which have been employed in recent experimental analyses.
Top squark (stop) plays a crucial role in the naturalness of supersymmetry (SUSY) models, which has been extensively searched for in the LHC experiments. Due to the parity-violating couplings, top quark and chargino thus produced from stop decay are expected to be polarized. We investigate the polarization of top quark and chargino, from which we find that the mass differences between neutralino and stop/chargino can affect the degree of polarization of top quark/chargino in the stop decay. We then examine the top polarization effects on kinematics of stop decay in natural SUSY (NSUSY) at the …
We perform a comprehensive analysis of the polarization of the top quarks originating from sbottom-pair production at the LHC, followed by sbottom decays to top+chargino. We study moreover the expected net polarization of top quarks produced in sbottom-to-chargino and stop-to-neutralino decays in scenarios with small chargino - neutralino mass difference, where these decays may be hard to distinguish. We show that, in contrast to top quarks produced via the Standard Model processes, the average polarization of top quarks originating from these SUSY decays can obtain any value between +1 and -1…
Measuring top polarization is extremely important in understanding any new physics that couples to top quark. Here, we take up the task of extracting polarization of top quark coming from TeV-scale stop decay at the upgraded high luminosity and high energy LHC. We focus on the scenario where the two tops from the stop decay lead to semi-leptonic final state. We take into account all relevant backgrounds and put kinematical cuts to suppress them. We arrive at a signal region where the desired signal can be observed with reasonable significance. Next, we examine, in such signal regions, how well…
Following the nonrelativistic QCD factorization scheme, by taking latest available measurement on $χ_b(3P)$ into consideration, we present an updated study on the yield and polarization of $Υ(1S,2S,3S)$ hadroproduction, and the fractions of $χ_b(mP)$ feed-down in $Υ(nS)$ production at QCD next-to-leading order. In the fitting, three schemes are applied with different choice of $χ_b(mP)$ feed-down ratios and NRQCD factorization scale. The results can explain the measurements on yield very well as in our previous work. The polarization puzzle to $Υ(3S)$ is now solved by considering the $χ_b(3P)$…
In minimal supersymmetric standard model the R-parity violating interactions can induce anomalous top pair productions at the LHC through the t-channel process d_R \bar d_R -> t_L \bar t_L by exchanging a slepton or u-channel process d_R \bar d_R -> t_R \bar t_R by exchanging a squark. Such top pair productions with certain chirality cause top quark polarization in the top pair events. We found that at the LHC, due to the large statistics, the statistical significance of the polarization observable and thus the probing ability for the corresponding R-parity violating couplings are much higher …
We study the sensitivities of non-standard top and Higgs couplings in the $pp\to thj$ process at the 14 TeV high-luminosity run of Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). We calculate top polarization and construct various lab-frame observables to study their sensitivities on anomalous couplings at HL-LHC. Both anomalous Wtb and hVV couplings contribute in the production process. However, only the former contributes in top decay and only the latter takes part in Higgs decay. We study this interesting interplay of couplings in the production and decay observables. In production, these couplings signifi…
We study anomalous couplings among neutral gauge bosons in $ZZ$ production at the LHC for $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV in $4$-lepton final state. We use the cross section and polarization asymmetries of the $Z$ boson to estimate simultaneous limits on anomalous coupling using Markov-Chain--Monte-Carlo (MCMC) method for luminosities $35.9$ fb$^{-1}$, $150$ fb$^{-1}$, $300$ fb$^{-1}$ and $1000$ fb$^{-1}$. The $CP$-even polarization asymmetry $A_{x^2-y^2}$ is sensitive mainly to the $CP$-odd couplings $f_4^{Z/γ}$ (quadratically) providing a probe to identify $CP$-odd nature of interaction at the LHC. We fin…
Prompt $χ_c$ production at hadron colliders may provide a unique test for the color-octet mechanism in nonrelativistic QCD. We present an analysis for the polarization observables of $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ at next-to-leading order in $α_S$, and propose to measure them at the LHC, which is expected to be important for testing the validity of NRQCD.
Based on the hypothesis that the $X(3872)$ exotic hadron is a mixture of $χ_{c1}(2P)$ and other states and that its prompt hadroproduction predominately proceeds via its $χ_{c1}(2P)$ component, we calculate the prompt-$X(3872)$ polarization at the CERN LHC through next-to-leading order in $α_s$ within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic QCD, including both the color-singlet $^3\!P_1^{[1]}$ and color-octet $^3\!S_1^{[8]}$ $c\bar c$ Fock states. We also consider the polarization of the $J/ψ$ produced by the subsequent $X(3872)$ decay. We predict that, under ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb experi…
Based on nonrelativistic QCD factorization scheme, we present the first complete next-to-leading order study on the yield and polarization of Upsilon(1S,2S,3S) hadroproduction. By using the color-octet long-distance matrix elements obtained from fits of the experimental measurements on Upsilon yield and polarization at the Tevatron and LHC, our results can explain the measurements on the yield very well, and for the polarizations of Upsilon(1S,2S,3S), they are in (good, good, bad) agreement with recent CMS measurement, but still have some distance from the CDF measurement.
Polarization measurements are usually considered as the most difficult challenge for the QCD description of quarkonium production. In fact, global data fits for the determination of the non-perturbative parameters of bound-state formation traditionally exclude polarization observables and use them as a posteriori verifications of the predictions, with perplexing results. With a change of perspective, we move polarization data to the centre of the study, advocating that they actually provide the strongest fundamental indications about the production mechanisms, even before we explicitly conside…
In this work, we calculate the next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD corrections to the process $p+p \to J/ψ+ γ$ via the color-singlet mechanism at the LHC. The results show that the partial cross section ($p_t^{J/ψ}>$3GeV and $|y^{J/ψ,γ}|<$3) is enhanced by a factor of about 2.0, and the differential cross section can be enhanced by two orders of magnitude in the large transverse momentum region of $J/ψ$. Furthermore, the polarization of $J/ψ$ changes from transverse polarization at leading-order to longitudinal polarization at NLO. For the inclusive $J/ψ$ hadroproduction, it is known that the colo…
Study of polarization of heavy particles is an important branch of research in today's collider studies. The massive $W$ boson has two types of polarization states, which usually are studied via the angular distribution of its decay products. We have studied polarization of hadronic and boosted $W$ boson using jet substructure technique at 14 TeV LHC. Two different methods, viz. N-subjettiness and Soft Drop, were used to find the subjets, which are approximately considered to be the two hadronic decay products of $W$, inside boosted $W$ jets. These subjets were then used to find the distributi…
In the framework of kt-factorization approach, the production of prompt $χ_c$ mesons in pp collisions at the LHC energies is studied. Our consideration is based on the off-shell amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses $g^*g^*\toχ_{cJ}$ and non-relativistic QCD formalism for bound states. The transverse momentum dependent (unintegrated) gluon densities in a proton were derived from Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini evolution equation or, alternatively, were chosen in accordance with Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. Taking into account both color singlet and color octet contributions, we de…
Gluinos are produced pairwise at the LHC in quark-antiquark and gluon-gluon collisions: $qqbar,gg \to \tilde{g} \tilde{g}$. While the individual polarization of gluinos vanishes in the limit in which the small mass difference between L and R squarks of the first two generations is neglected, non-zero spin-spin correlations are predicted within gluino pairs. If the squark/quark charges in Majorana gluino decays are tagged, the spin correlations have an impact on the energy and angular distributions in reconstructed final states. On the other hand, the gluino polarization in single gluino produc…
We briefly recollect the problem of significant hyperon polarization emphasizing the role of spin in dynamics of hadron interactions. We provide also some model predictions based on chiral dynamics and the impact parameter picture for illustration. The old, but yet unsolved problem of hyperon polarization, can obtain a new insight from the measurements at the LHC energies and, in combination with other measurements, can be used for tagging QGP formation in $pp$--collisions.
While the prompt J/$ψ$ cross section and polarization have been measured with good precision as a function of transverse momentum, $p_{\rm T}$, those of the directly produced J/$ψ$ are practically unknown, given that the cross sections and polarizations of the $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ mesons, large indirect contributors to J/$ψ$ production, are only known with rather poor accuracy. The lack of precise measurements of the $χ_{cJ}$ polarizations induces large uncertainties in the level of their feed-down contributions to the prompt J/$ψ$ yield, because of the polarization-dependent acceptance corre…
The conjoined production at the LHC of single top and Higgs boson via $t$-channel weak boson exchange is ideal to probe the top-quark Yukawa coupling, due to a delicate cancellation between the amplitudes with the $htt$ and the $hWW$ couplings. We find that the top quark is produced with $100\%$ polarization in the leading order, and its quantum state is determined by the spin-vector direction in the $t$-quark rest frame. We relate the spin direction to the four-momenta of the top, Higgs and a jet in the helicity amplitude framework. We identify a polarization asymmetry that is sensitive to CP…
Extensions of the Standard Model often predict new chiral interactions for top quark, which will contribute to top quark spin correlation and polarization in $t\bar{t}$ production at the LHC. In this work, under the constraints from the current Tevatron measurements, a comparative study of the spin correlation and polarization is performed in three new physics models: the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity (RPV-MSSM), the third-generation enhanced left-right model and the axigluon model. We find that the polarization asymmetry may be enhanced to the accessible level in all these mod…
We study the sensitivity of top polarization observables to the CP phase $ζ_t$ in the top Yukawa coupling in the process $pp\to thj$ at the 14 TeV high-luminosity run of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). We calculate the top polarization in this process as well as an azimuthal asymmetry of the charged lepton arising from the decay of the top in the lab frame. We find that the dependence of this lab-frame azimuthal asymmetry on the phase $ζ_t$ closely resembles the dependence of the top polarization on $ζ_t$. As compared to the cross section, which is sensitive to $ζ_t$ for larger values, the…
Accessing the polarization of weak bosons provides an important probe for the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. Relying on the double-pole approximation and on the separation of polarizations at the amplitude level, we study WZ production at the LHC, with both bosons in a definite polarization mode, including NLO QCD effects. We compare results obtained defining the polarization vectors in two different frames. Integrated and differential cross-sections in a realistic fiducial region are presented.
