Prompt $χ_c$ production at hadron colliders may provide a unique test for the color-octet mechanism in nonrelativistic QCD. We present an analysis for the polarization observables of $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ at next-to-leading order in $α_S$, and propose to measure them at the LHC, which is expected to be important for testing the validity of NRQCD.
We study the polarization of positively charged $W$'s in the scattering of massive electroweak bosons at hadron colliders. We rely on the separation of weak boson polarizations in the gauge-invariant, doubly-resonant part of the amplitude in Monte Carlo simulations. Polarizations depend on the reference frame in which they are defined. We discuss the change in polarization fractions and in kinematic distributions arising from defining polarization vectors in two different reference frames which have been employed in recent experimental analyses.
We perform a comprehensive analysis of the polarization of the top quarks originating from sbottom-pair production at the LHC, followed by sbottom decays to top+chargino. We study moreover the expected net polarization of top quarks produced in sbottom-to-chargino and stop-to-neutralino decays in scenarios with small chargino - neutralino mass difference, where these decays may be hard to distinguish. We show that, in contrast to top quarks produced via the Standard Model processes, the average polarization of top quarks originating from these SUSY decays can obtain any value between +1 and -1…
In minimal supersymmetric standard model the R-parity violating interactions can induce anomalous top pair productions at the LHC through the t-channel process d_R \bar d_R -> t_L \bar t_L by exchanging a slepton or u-channel process d_R \bar d_R -> t_R \bar t_R by exchanging a squark. Such top pair productions with certain chirality cause top quark polarization in the top pair events. We found that at the LHC, due to the large statistics, the statistical significance of the polarization observable and thus the probing ability for the corresponding R-parity violating couplings are much higher …
We study anomalous couplings among neutral gauge bosons in $ZZ$ production at the LHC for $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV in $4$-lepton final state. We use the cross section and polarization asymmetries of the $Z$ boson to estimate simultaneous limits on anomalous coupling using Markov-Chain--Monte-Carlo (MCMC) method for luminosities $35.9$ fb$^{-1}$, $150$ fb$^{-1}$, $300$ fb$^{-1}$ and $1000$ fb$^{-1}$. The $CP$-even polarization asymmetry $A_{x^2-y^2}$ is sensitive mainly to the $CP$-odd couplings $f_4^{Z/γ}$ (quadratically) providing a probe to identify $CP$-odd nature of interaction at the LHC. We fin…
Based on the hypothesis that the $X(3872)$ exotic hadron is a mixture of $χ_{c1}(2P)$ and other states and that its prompt hadroproduction predominately proceeds via its $χ_{c1}(2P)$ component, we calculate the prompt-$X(3872)$ polarization at the CERN LHC through next-to-leading order in $α_s$ within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic QCD, including both the color-singlet $^3\!P_1^{[1]}$ and color-octet $^3\!S_1^{[8]}$ $c\bar c$ Fock states. We also consider the polarization of the $J/ψ$ produced by the subsequent $X(3872)$ decay. We predict that, under ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb experi…
Based on nonrelativistic QCD factorization scheme, we present the first complete next-to-leading order study on the yield and polarization of Upsilon(1S,2S,3S) hadroproduction. By using the color-octet long-distance matrix elements obtained from fits of the experimental measurements on Upsilon yield and polarization at the Tevatron and LHC, our results can explain the measurements on the yield very well, and for the polarizations of Upsilon(1S,2S,3S), they are in (good, good, bad) agreement with recent CMS measurement, but still have some distance from the CDF measurement.
Study of polarization of heavy particles is an important branch of research in today's collider studies. The massive $W$ boson has two types of polarization states, which usually are studied via the angular distribution of its decay products. We have studied polarization of hadronic and boosted $W$ boson using jet substructure technique at 14 TeV LHC. Two different methods, viz. N-subjettiness and Soft Drop, were used to find the subjets, which are approximately considered to be the two hadronic decay products of $W$, inside boosted $W$ jets. These subjets were then used to find the distributi…
Gluinos are produced pairwise at the LHC in quark-antiquark and gluon-gluon collisions: $qqbar,gg \to \tilde{g} \tilde{g}$. While the individual polarization of gluinos vanishes in the limit in which the small mass difference between L and R squarks of the first two generations is neglected, non-zero spin-spin correlations are predicted within gluino pairs. If the squark/quark charges in Majorana gluino decays are tagged, the spin correlations have an impact on the energy and angular distributions in reconstructed final states. On the other hand, the gluino polarization in single gluino produc…
Extensions of the Standard Model often predict new chiral interactions for top quark, which will contribute to top quark spin correlation and polarization in $t\bar{t}$ production at the LHC. In this work, under the constraints from the current Tevatron measurements, a comparative study of the spin correlation and polarization is performed in three new physics models: the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity (RPV-MSSM), the third-generation enhanced left-right model and the axigluon model. We find that the polarization asymmetry may be enhanced to the accessible level in all these mod…
Accessing the polarization of weak bosons provides an important probe for the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. Relying on the double-pole approximation and on the separation of polarizations at the amplitude level, we study WZ production at the LHC, with both bosons in a definite polarization mode, including NLO QCD effects. We compare results obtained defining the polarization vectors in two different frames. Integrated and differential cross-sections in a realistic fiducial region are presented.
Neutrino fluxes at high rapidity and at high energy are sensitive to QCD dynamics of heavy-flavor production in kinematic regions where measurements have not yet been made. The FASER$ν$ and SND@LHC experiments scheduled for Run 3 at the LHC and the proposed Forward Physics Facility with a suite of experiments during the High-Luminosity LHC phase will probe neutrinos at high pseudorapidity. This short paper reports on recent evaluations of the prompt $ν_τ+\barν_τ$ and $ν_e+\barν_e$ double-differential cross sections in $pp$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider from the production and decays …
We present new results for the theoretical prediction of doubly-polarized cross sections of $WZ$ events at the LHC using leptonic decays. Compared to the previous studies, two new kinematic cuts are considered. These cuts are designed to enhance the doubly-longitudinal (LL) polarization and, at the same time, study the Radiation Amplitude Zero effect. We found a new cut on the rapidity separation between the $Z$ boson and the electron from the $W$ decay which makes the LL fraction largest, namely $|Δy_{Z,e}| < 0.5$. This result is obtained at the next-to-leading order in the strong and electro…
Searches for supersymmetry (SUSY) at the LHC frequently assume the conservation of $R$-parity in their design, optimization and interpretation. In the case that $R$-parity is not conserved, constraints on SUSY particle masses tend to be weakened with respect to $R$-parity-conserving models. We review the current status of searches for $R$-parity-violating (RPV) supersymmetry models at the ATLAS and CMS experiments, limited to 8 TeV search results published or submitted for publication as of the end of March 2015. All forms of renormalisable RPV terms leading to prompt signatures have been cons…
We study the polarization observables of J/psi hadroproduction at next-to-leading order within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics. We complete the present knowledge of the relativistic corrections by also providing the contribution due to the intermediate ^3P_J^{[8]} color-octet states at this order, which turns out to be quite significant. Exploiting the color-octet long-distance matrix elements previously extracted through a global fit to experimental data of unpolarized J/psi production, we provide theoretical predictions in the helicity and Collins-Soper …
In this note we demonstrate the use of top polarization in the study of $t \bar t$ resonances at the LHC, in the possible case where the dynamics implies a non-zero top polarization. As a probe of top polarization we construct an asymmetry in the decay-lepton azimuthal angle distribution (corresponding to the sign of $\cosϕ_\ell$) in the laboratory. The asymmetry is non-vanishing even for a symmetric collider like the LHC, where a positive $z$ axis is not uniquely defined. The angular distribution of the leptons has the advantage of being a faithful top-spin analyzer, unaffected by possible an…
As a top quark factory, the LHC can test the new physics models used to explain the top quark forward-backward asymmetry A^t_FB measured at the Tevatron. In this work we perform a comparative study for two such models: the W'-model and the color triplet diquark (ϕ) model. Requiring these models to explain A^t_FB and also satisfy the top pair production rate measured at the Tevatron, we examine their contributions to the LHC observables such as the polarization and charge asymmetry in top quark and W' (or ϕ) productions. We find that these observables can be enhanced to the observable level and…
A study on the prompt photon production within the QCD color dipole picture with emphasis in $pp$ and $pA$ collisions at the LHC energy regimes is performed. We present predictions for the differential cross section as a function of photon transverse momentum at different rapidity bins considering updated phenomenological color dipole models, which take into account the QCD gluon saturation physics. The results are directly compared to the recent experimental measurements provided by CMS and ATLAS Collaborations, showing a reasonable agreement in all rapidity bins with no free parameters. Spec…
We argue that the study of heavy quarkonia, in particular that of $Υ$, produced back-to-back with an isolated photon in $pp$ collisions at the LHC is the best --and currently unique-- way to access the distribution of both the transverse momentum and the polarization of the gluon in an unpolarized proton. These encode fundamental information on the dynamics of QCD. We have derived analytical expressions for various transverse-momentum distributions which can be measured at the LHC and which allow for a direct extraction of the aforementioned quantities. To assess the feasibility of such measur…
In this work, we investigate the prompt $J/ψ$ production in associated with top quark pair to leading order in the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism at the LHC with $\sqrt{s} =13$ TeV. In addition to the contribution from direct $J/ψ$ production, we also include the indirect contribution from the directly produced heavier charmmonia $χ_{cJ}$ and $ψ^\prime$. We present the numerical results for the total and differential cross sections and find that the $\sideset{^3}{^{(8)}_1}{\mathop{S}}$ states give the dominant contributions. The prompt $t\bar t J/ψ$ signatures at the LHC are analy…
An accurate knowledge of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) is an essential ingredient of high energy physics calculations when the processes are involving nuclei in the initial state. It is well known now that the prompt photon production both in hadronic and nuclear collisions is a powerful tool for exploring the parton densities in the nucleon and nuclei especially of the gluon. In this work, we are going to perform a comprehensive study of the isolated prompt photon production in $ p $-Pb collisions at backward rapidities to find the best kinematic regions in which the experimen…
In this paper we consider Higgs plus jet production as a process that is sensitive to the linear polarization of gluons inside the unpolarized protons of the LHC. The leading order expressions for the transverse momentum distribution of the Higgs plus jet pair are provided in terms of transverse momentum dependent quark and gluon distributions. This includes both angular independent and azimuthal angular dependent contributions, presented directly in the laboratory frame. Lacking experimental constraints on the linearly polarized gluon distribution, we study its effects on Higgs plus jet produ…
Models with essential non-perturbative QCD dynamics and describing Tevatron data on high-$p_\perp$ charmonium are extrapolated to give predictions of prompt J/psi production at the LHC. Differences of up to an order of magnitude occurs. An important point is here the treatment of higher order perturbative QCD effects.
We consider top-antitop quark ($t{\bar t}$) production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with subsequent decay into dileptonic and lepton plus jets final states. We present a set of leptonic angular correlations and distributions with which experiments can probe all the independent coefficient functions of the top-spin dependent parts of the $t{\bar t}$ production spin density matrices. We compute these angular correlations and distributions for LHC center-of-mass energies 8, 13, and 14 TeV within the Standard Model at next-to-leading order in the QCD coupling including the mixed QCD-weak cor…
A number of top-spin observables are computed within the Standard Model (SM), at next-to-leading order in the strong and weak gauge couplings for hadronic top-quark anti-quark (ttbar) production and decay at the LHC for center-of-mass energies 7 and 8 TeV. For dileptonic final states we consider the azimuthal angle correlation, the helicity correlation, and the opening angle distribution; for lepton plus jets final states we determine distributions and asymmetries that trace a longitudinal and transverse polarization, respectively, of the t and t-bar samples. In addition, we investigate the ef…
We analyze the impact of effective axial-vector coupling of the gluon on spin polarization observables in $t\bar{t}$ pair production at the LHC. Working at leading order in QCD, we compute the $t\bar{t}$ spin-correlation and left-right spin asymmetry coefficients in the helicity basis in the laboratory frame as functions of the new physics scale $Λ$ associated with this coupling. We found that the $t\bar{t}$ invariant mass dependent asymmetries are more sensitive to the scale $Λ$ than the corresponding inclusive ones, in particular when suitable cuts selecting high $t\bar{t}$ invariant mass re…
Longstanding puzzles in spin physics can be confronted at the high energies of the LHC. Will large s-quark and c-quark polarization be observed through heavy hyperon production? Top quarks are expected to have significant polarization - single spin asymmetries. How can such observations sort out possible QCD mechanisms? Leptoproduction provides a means to access those mechanisms. TMDs, GPDs and Fracture Functions all provide different model approaches to the polarization phenomena. Their implications will be described.
Nuclear modification factors of inclusive prompt photon production in d-Au collisions at RHIC and p-Pb collisions at the LHC are provided at different rapidities. The calculations are performed at NLO accuracy using the EPS09 NLO nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) and their error sets. The results are compared to the ones obtained with the nDS and HKN07 NLO nPDFs, and to the corresponding nuclear modification factors of neutral pion production in these collisions. The sensitivity of these results to the scale choice is also investigated. Interestingly, the predictions using the diff…
Models with essential non-perturbative QCD dynamics for the production of charmonium are extrapolated to give predictions of prompt J/psi production at the LHC. Differences of up to an order of magnitude occurs, although the different models all describe the Tevatron data on high-pT charmonium. An important point is here the treatment of higher order perturbative QCD effects. We also discuss the large rate of prompt J/psi from these models as a background to CP violation studies.
We present a study of the polarization observables of the $W$ and $Z$ bosons in the process $p p \to W^\pm Z\to e^\pm ν_e μ^+μ^-$ at the 13 TeV Large Hadron Collider. The calculation is performed at next-to-leading order, including the full QCD corrections as well as the electroweak corrections, the latter being calculated in the double-pole approximation. The results are presented in the helicity coordinate system adopted by ATLAS and for different inclusive cuts on the di-muon invariant mass. We define left-right charge asymmetries related to the polarization fractions between the $W^+ Z$ an…
We re-evaluate the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux, using the measured charm cross sections at RHIC and the Large Hadron Collider to constrain perturbative QCD parameters such as the factorization and renormalization scales, as well as modern parton distribution functions and recent estimates of the cosmic-ray spectra. We find that our result for the prompt neutrino flux is lower than previous perturbative QCD estimates and, consequently, alters the signal-to-background statistics of the recent IceCube measurements at high energies.
The prompt photon production in hadronic collisions has a long history of providing information on the substructure of hadrons and testing the perturbative techniques of QCD. Some valuable information about the parton densities in the nucleon and nuclei, especially of the gluon, can also be achieved by analysing the measurements of the prompt photon production cross section whether inclusively or in association with heavy quarks or jets. In this work, we present predictions for the inclusive isolated prompt photon production in $ pp $ collisions at center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV using various…
We compare the impact of top-quark spin polarization effects in Higgs boson production in association with top-quark pairs and in corresponding backgrounds at the LHC. Because of the spin-zero nature of the Higgs boson, one expects, in the chiral limit for the top quarks, a substantial complementarity in $t\bar t$ spin correlations for a Higgs decaying into fermions/gauge-bosons and $t\bar{t}$ spin correlations for the corresponding irreducible $t\bar t f\bar f/VV$ backgrounds. Although top mass effects in $t\bar t H$ production are in general dominant, and seriously spoil the chiral-limit exp…
Polarization observables in top quark decays are sensitive probes of possible new physics contributions to the interactions of the heavy third generation quarks. Within an effective theory approach such new physics contributions can be classified in terms of several higher dimensional operators. We investigate the interplay between indirect constraints on such operators, coming mainly from rare B physics processes, and direct measurements of top polarization observables at the LHC.
We study single jet and prompt-photon inclusive hadroproduction with multi-Regge kinematics invoking the hypothesis of parton Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy. In this approach, the leading contributions are due to the fusion of two Reggeized gluons into a Yang-Mills gluon and the annihilation of a Reggeized quark-antiquark pair into a photon, respectively. Adopting the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin and Bluemlein prescription to derive unintegrated gluon and quark distribution functions of the proton from their collinear counterparts, for which we use the Martin-Roberts-Stirling-Thorn…
We estimate model-independent bounds that could be obtained on the anomalous $ZZH$ vertex using polarization parameters of the $Z$ boson produced in the Higgstrahlung process at the LHC. We calculate the eight independent polarization parameters from the spin density matrix elements of the $Z$, which can probe underlying new physics contributions to $ZH$ production. By using the approach that connects these polarization observables to the coefficients in the angular distribution of the decay products of the $Z$, we estimate the limits on the anomalous $ZZH$ coupling that can be obtained at the…
We re-analyse the associated production of a prompt J/psi and a W boson in pp collisions at the LHC following the results of the ATLAS Collaboration. We perform the first study of the Single-Parton-Scattering (SPS) contributions at the Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) in alpha_s in the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM), an approach based on the quark-hadron-duality. Our study provides clear indications for Double-Parton-Scattering (DPS) contributions, in particular at low transverse momenta, since our SPS CEM evaluation, which can be viewed as a conservative upper limit of the SPS yields, falls short …
We provide a detailed study of prompt double $J/ψ$ production within the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) framework in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. We confront the recent LHC data with the results obtained at leading-order (LO) in the NRQCD framework within two approaches of the collinear factorization and the $k_T$-factorization. We show that the LHCb data are consistent with the $k_T$-factorized LO NRQCD results. We show that the full LO NRQCD formalism cannot describe the recent CMS data, with about one order of magnitude discrepancy. If the CMS data are confirmed, this indicates rather…
Motivated by the observation of the first hidden charm pentaquarks by the LHCb collaboration in 2015 and the updated analysis with an order-of-magnitude larger data set in 2019, we estimate their cross sections for the prompt production as well as their heavy quark spin partners, in the $Σ_c^{(*)}\bar{D}^{(*)}$ hadronic molecular picture, at the center-of-mass energy $7~\mathrm{TeV}$ in the $pp$ collision. Their cross sections are several $\mathrm{nb}$ and we would expect several tens hidden charm pentaquark events in the LHC based on its current integrated luminosity. The cross sections show …
We examine a method of studying the Z polarization in $H\to ZZ \to \ell^+ \ell^- ν\barν$ in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Included are the dominant contributions: gluon fusion production of the Higgs boson, continuum production of Z pairs, and the Z+missing jet QCD background. The polarization signal is distinguishable from the background for Higgs masses less than or equal to $\sim 700$ GeV, for an integrated luminosity of 10^5 pb^{-1}.
We show how the $W$ boson polarization in the process of associated $W^{\pm}H$ production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can be used to constrain anomalous $WWH$ couplings. We first calculate the spin density matrix for the $W$ to linear order in the anomalous couplings, which are assumed to be small. We then evaluate angular asymmetries in the decay distributions of leptons produced in the decay of the $W$ and show how they can be used to measure the individual elements of the polarization tensor. We estimate the limits that can be placed on the anomalous $WWH$ couplings at a future run o…
The description of the heavy meson production at large energies and forward rapidities at the LHC is fundamental to derive realistic predictions of the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux at the IceCube Observatory. In particular, the prompt tau neutrino flux is determined by the decay of $D_s$ mesons produced in cosmic ray - air interactions at high energies and large values of the Feynman - $x_F$ variable. Recent data from the LHCb Collaboration indicate a production asymmetry for $D_s^+$ and $D_s^-$ mesons, which cannot be explained in terms of the standard modelling of the hadronization proce…
The possibility of beauty baryon polarization measurement by cascade decay angular distribution analysis in the channel Lambda0 J/psi --> p pi- l+ l- is demonstrated. The error analysis shows that in the proposed LHC experiment ATLAS at the luminosity $10^{4} pb^{-1}$ the polarization can be measured with the statistical precision better than $δ=0.010$ for Lambda_b0 and $δ=0.17$ for Xi_b0.
We study prompt J/psi-meson hadroproduction invoking the hypothesis of gluon Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics at the leading order in the strong-coupling constant alpha_s and the relative velocity of quarks v. The transverse-momentum distribution of direct and prompt J/psi-meson production measured at the Fermilab Tevatron fitted to obtain the nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements, which are used to predict prompt J/psi production spectra at the CERN LHC. At the numerical calculation, we adopt t…
We study prompt Upsilon(nS) hadroproduction (n=1,2,3) invoking the hypothesis of gluon Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics at leading order in the strong-coupling constant alpha_s and the relative velocity v of the bound quarks. The transverse-momentum distributions of prompt Upsilon(nS)-meson production measured by the ATLAS Collaboration at the CERN LHC are fitted to obtain the color-octet nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements, which are used to predict prompt Upsilon(nS) production spectra measu…
Transverse polarization of Lambda hyperons produced in p p and p Pb collisions is discussed. A factorized description in the intermediate to high p_T region is considered that involves transverse momentum and spin dependence in the fragmentation process. Consequences and suggestions for investigations at LHC are pointed out for the process p + p -> Lambda^uparrow + jets + X at midrapidity and p + p/Pb -> Lambda^uparrow + X in the forward region.
We propose a new type of Z polarization asymmetry in bottom-Z production at LHC that should be realistically measurable and would provide the determination of the so-called $A_b$ parameter, whose available measured value still appears to be in disagreement with the Standard Model prediction. This polarization can be measured independently of a possible existence of Supersymmetry. If Supersymmetry is found, a second polarization, i.e. the top longitudinal polarization in top-charged Higgs production, would neatly identify the $\tan β$ parameter. In this case, the value of $A_b$ should be in agr…
WZ production is an important process at the LHC because it probes the non-Abelian structureof electroweak interactions and it is a background process for many new physics searches. In the quest for new physics, polarization observables of the W and Z bosons can play an important role. They can be extracted from measurements and can be calculated using the Standard Model. In this contribution, we define fiducial polarization observables of the W and Z bosons and discuss the effects of next-to-leading order electroweak and QCD corrections in the Standard Model.
The NLO QCD corrections to Upsilon production via S-wave color-octet states Upsilon(^1S_0^8,^3S_1^8) at the Tevatron and LHC is calculated. The K factors of total cross section (ratio of NLO to LO) are 1.313 and 1.379 for Upsilon(^1S_0^8) and Upsilon(^3S_1^8) at the Tevatron, while at the LHC they are 1.044 and 1.182, respectively. By fitting the experimental data from the D0, the matrix elements for S-wave color-octet states are obtained. And new predictions for Upsilon production are presented. The prediction for the polarization of inclusive Upsilon contains large uncertainty rising from th…
Based on nonrelativistic QCD, we present the first complete next-to-leading order study on the polarization of prompt J/psi hadroproduction by including feeddown from chi_c(^3P_J^1,^3S_1^8) and psi(2s) which turn out to be a very important part. By using the color-octet long-distance matrix elements obtained from a combined fit of the differential cross section measurements at the Tevatron and LHC for J/psi, psi(2s) and chi_c with p_t>7GeV, the prompt J/psi polarization predictions are presented, and the results are in agree with the CDF Run-I data (except two points), but in conflict with the…
Within the resolved Pomeron model of hard diffractive scattering, we compute prompt photon production in double-Pomeron-exchange events in proton-proton collisions. Using specific kinematical constraints chosen according to the acceptances of the forward proton detectors of experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, we provide estimates for inclusive and isolated photon production. This is done using the JetPhox program. We find that next-to-leading order corrections to the hard process are important and must be included in order to correctly constrain the quark and gluon content of the Pomeron…
The studies of heavy quarkonium inclusive production and polarization at LHC are becoming crucial to solve the puzzle of hadron formation. The results by CMS and the other LHC experiments are compactly presented for the five S-wave states J/Psi, Psi(2S) and Y(nS) (n=1,2,3) and briefly discussed especially in comparison to the theoretical predictions provided by Non Relativistic QCD.
In the framework of the $k_T$-factorization, the prompt production of $η_c$ mesons at the LHC conditions is studied. Our consideration is based on the off-shell amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses and on the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) formalism for the formation of bound states. We try two latest parametrizations for noncollinear, or transverse momentum dependent (TMD) gluon densities derived from the Catani-Ciafaloni-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) equation. We use the values of the nonperturbative matrix elements obtained from a combined fit of the $η_c$ and $J/ψ$ differential cross section…
This talk presents a review of recent results for quarkonium production at the LHC from ATLAS, CMS, LHCb, and ALICE. Production cross sections for $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, and $Υ(mS)$, and production ratios for $χ_{c,bJ}$ are found to be in good agreement with predictions from non-relativistic QCD. In contrast, spin-alignment (polarization) measurements seem to disagree with all theoretical predictions. Some other production channels useful for investigating quarkonium hadroproduction mechanisms are also considered.
We investigate the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of the prompt photon production at the CERN LHC energies considering the current perturbative QCD approaches for this scattering process. Namely, we compare the predictions from the usual NLO pQCD calculations to the the color dipole formalism, using distinct dipole cross sections. Special attention is paid to parton saturation models at high energies, which are expected to be important at the forward rapidities in pp collisions at the LHC.
We reconsider the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons in $pp$ collisions at the LHC energies in the framework of $k_T$-factorization approach. Our analysis is based on the ${\cal O}(αα_s)$ off-shell (depending on the transverse momenta of initial quarks and gluons) production amplitudes of $q^* g^* \to γq$ and $q^* \bar q^* \to γg$ partonic subprocesses and transverse momentum dependent (or unintegrated) quark and gluon densities in a proton, which are chosen in accordance with the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. We show that the sub-leading high-order ${\cal O}(αα_s^2)$ contrib…
We review predictions, based on the nonrelativistic QCD factorization framework, for the polarizations of prompt J/psi's and Upsilon(nS)'s produced at the Fermilab Tevatron. We also discuss the effect of relativistic corrections on the theoretical prediction for the polarization of prompt J/psi's at the Tevatron.
We study the possibility to analyse the data on inclusive prompt photon production at first LHC runs in the framework of the kt-factorization QCD approach. Our consideration is based on the amplitude for the production of a single photon associated with a quark pair in the fusion of two off-shell gluons. The quark component is taken into account separately using the quark-gluon Compton scatterring and quark-antiquark annihilation QCD subprocesses. The unintegrated parton densities in a proton are determined using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) prescription as well as the CCFM evolution equatio…
I emphasize in this contribution how prompt photons can be used to probe nuclear parton densities as well as medium-modified fragmentation functions in heavy ion collisions. Various predictions in p-A and A-A collisions at LHC energies are given.
