We investigate the chiral symmetry restoration/breaking of a dense, magnetized and rotating quark matter within the Nambu Jona-Lasinio model including $N_f=2$ and $N_c=3$ numbers of flavors and colors, respectively. Imposing the spectral boundary conditions, as well as the positiveness of energy levels, lead to a correlation between the magnetic and rotation fields such that strongly magnetized plasma can not rotate anymore. We solve the gap equation at zero and finite temperature. At finite temperature and baryon chemical potential $μ_B$, we sketch the phase diagrams $T_c(μ_B)$ and $T_c(RΩ)$ in different cases. As a result, we always observe inverse-rotational catalysis mean to decrease $T_c$ by increasing $RΩ$. But the magnetic field has a more complex structure in the phase diagram. For slowly rotating plasma, we find that $T_c$ decreases by increasing $eB$, while in the fast rotating plasma we see that $T_c$ increases by increasing $eB$. Also, we locate exactly the position of Critical End Point by solving the equations of first and second derivatives of effective action with respect to the order parameters, simultaneously.
We explore the end point of the helical instability in finite density, finite magnetic field background discussed by Kharzeev and Yee [1]. The nonlinear solution is obtained and identified with the (magnetized) chiral density wave phase in literature. We find there are two branches of solutions, which match with the two unstable modes in [1]. At large chemical potential and magnetic field, the magnetized chiral density wave can be thermodynamically preferred over chirally symmetric phase and chiral symmetry breaking phase. Interestingly, we find an exotic state with vanishing chemical potentia…
The fermion self-energy is calculated for a cold QED plasma with chiral chemical potential in a magnetic field. It is found that a momentum shift parameter dynamically generated in such a plasma leads to a modification of the chiral magnetic effect current. It is argued that the momentum shift parameter can be relevant for the evolution of magnetic field in the chirally asymmetric primordial plasma in the early Universe.
We study the two-point functions from chiral kinetic theory which characterize the response to perturbative vector and axial gauge fields in magnetized chiral plasma. In the lowest Landau level approximation, the solution of chiral kinetic equations gives density waves of electric and axial charges, which contain chiral magnetic wave implied by the axial anomaly and magnetic field. We then obtain the constitutive relations for covariant currents and stress tensor that involving the density waves. By considering the difference between consistent and covariant anomalies explicitly, the correlato…
In the presence of a chemical potential, the effect of a magnetic field on chiral symmetry breaking goes beyond the well-known magnetic catalysis. Due to a subtle interplay with the chemical potential, the magnetic field may work not only in favor but also against the chirally broken phase. At sufficiently large coupling, the magnetic field favors the broken phase only for field strengths beyond any conceivable value in nature. Therefore, in the interior of magnetars, a possible transition from chirally broken hadronic matter to chirally symmetric quark matter might occur at smaller densities …
By making use of a covariant formulation of the chiral kinetic theory in the relaxation-time approximation, we derive the first-order dissipative hydrodynamics equations for a charged chiral plasma with background electromagnetic fields. We identify the global equilibrium state for a rotating chiral plasma confined to a cylindrical region with realistic boundary conditions. Then, by using linearized hydrodynamic equations, supplemented by the Maxwell equations, we study hydrodynamic modes of magnetized rotating chiral plasma in the regimes of high temperature and high density. We find that, in…
The induced axial current and the chiral anomaly are studied in the normal phase of magnetized relativistic matter. A special attention is paid to the role of the chiral shift parameter Delta, leading to a relative shift of the longitudinal momenta in the dispersion relations of opposite chirality fermions. In the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, it is shown directly from the form of the gap equation that Delta necessarily exists in the normal phase in a magnetic field. By making use of the gauge invariant point-splitting regularization, we then show that the presence of Delta essentially modifies th…
In pursuit of the sketching the effective magnetized QCD phase diagram, we found conditions on the critical coupling for chiral symmetry breaking in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in a nontrivial thermo-magnetic environment. Critical values for the plasma parameters, namely, temperature and magnetic field strength for this to happen are hence found in the mean field limit. The magnetized phase diagram is drawn from the criticality condition for different models of the effective coupling describing the inverse magnetic catalysis effect.
The generation of a chiral shift parameter in the normal ground state of magnetized relativistic matter is discussed. The chiral shift contributes to the axial current density, but does not modify the conventional axial anomaly relation. The analysis based on gauge invariant regularization schemes suggests that this finding is also valid in gauge theories. We argue that the chiral shift parameter can affect observable properties of compact stars. In the regime of heavy ion collisions, the chiral shift parameter can modify the key features of the chiral magnetic effect.
The problem of neutrino spin rotation in dense matter and in strong electromagnetic fields is solved in accordance with the basic principles of quantum mechanics. We obtain a complete system of wave functions for a massive Dirac neutrino with an anomalous magnetic moment which are the eigenfunctions of the kinetic momentum operator and have the form of nonspreading wave packets. These wave functions enable one to consider the states of neutrino with rotating spin as pure quantum states and can be used for calculating probabilities of various processes with the neutrino in the framework of the …
The recent claim [arXiv:hep-th/0603070, arXiv:hep-th/0605020] that there exists in QED a maximum magnetic field of 10^{42} G, above which the magnetized vacuum becomes unstable with respect to the so-called "positronium collapse" is critically examined and unequivocally refuted.
We study the photon self-energy in magnetized chiral plasma by solving the response of electromagnetic field perturbations in chiral kinetic theory with Landau level states. With lowest Landau level approximation and in collisionless limit, we find solutions for three particular perturbations: parallel electric field, static perpendicular electric and magnetic field, corresponding to chiral magnetic wave, drift state and tilted state, from which we extract components of photon self-energy in different kinematics. We show no solution is possible for more general field perturbations. We argue th…
New exact solutions of the modified Dirac equation describing a neutrino with nontrivial electromagnetic properties in extreme background conditions are obtained. Within the quasi-classical treatment the effective Lorentz force that describes the neutrino propagation in the magnetized rotating matter is introduced. We predict the effect of the spatial separation of different types of relativistic neutrinos and antineutrinos (different in flavors and energies) by the magnetized rotating matter of a star. Low energy neutrinos can be even trapped inside the star. We also predict two new phenomena…
Semiclassical chiral kinetic theories in the presence of electromagnetic fields as well as vorticity can be constructed by means of some different relativistic or nonrelativistic approaches. To cover the noninertial features of rotating frames one can start from the modified quantum kinetic equation of Wigner function in Minkowski spacetime. It provides a relativistic chiral transport equation whose nonrelativistic limit yields a consistent three-dimensional kinetic theory which does not depend explicitly on spatial coordinates. Recently a chiral transport equation in curved spacetime has been…
The behavior of $π^0$ meson properties in the presence of a uniform external magnetic field is studied in the context of a nonlocal extension of the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The analysis includes the $π^0$ mass, the effective $π^0$-quark coupling and the pion-to-vacuum hadronic form factors, both at zero and finite temperature. Numerical results are compared with previous calculations carried out within the local NJL model, when available. The validity of chiral relations and the features of deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration transitions are discussed.
We study the behavior of two-flavor dense quark matter under the influence of an external magnetic field in the framework of a nonlocal chiral quark model with separable interactions. The nonlocality is incorporated in the model by using a Gaussian form factor. It is found that for low and moderate values of magnetic field there is a decrease of the critical chiral restoration chemical potential $μ_c$, i.e. an inverse magnetic catalysis effect is observed. For larger values of $eB$ the behavior of $μ_c$ becomes more or less flat, depending on the parametrization. Within the considered parametr…
As the effective field theory of the superstring theory, ten-dimensional ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory is induced. We consider the ten-dimensional space-time ${\cal M}_{10}$ as direct products of our four-dimensional space-time ${\cal M}_{4}$ and three two-dimensional compact spaces $X_i\ (i=1,2,3)$, i.e. ${\cal M}_{10} = {\cal M}_4 \times X_2 \times X_2 \times X_3$. In particular, we consider $X_i$ as a torus, the torus orbifold, and also the blow-up manifold of the torus orbifold with background magnetic fluxes. We discuss the modular symmetry in the magnetized torus and its …
We study the properties of a hot and magnetized quark matter in a rotating cylinder in the presence of a constant magnetic field. To do this, we solve the corresponding Dirac equation using the Ritus eigenfunction method. This leads to the energy dispersion relation, Ritus eigenfunctions, and the quantization relation for magnetized fermions. To avoid causality-violating effects, we impose a certain global boundary condition, and study its effect, in particular, on the energy eigenmodes and the quantization relations of fermions. Using the fermion propagator arising from this method, we then s…
Using the Polyakov--Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model the strange quark chiral phase transition and the effect of its current mass on a hot magnetized three flavor quark matter at zero chemical potential is investigated. The impact of the 't Hooft mixing term on the restoration of the chiral symmetry on the light and strange sectors is studied and the critical temperature dependence on the magnetic field strength of the chiral strange transition is analyzed. It is shown that the s quark is much less sensitive to the magnetic field than the light quarks. Due to the 't Hooft term, it has a strong influe…
Various thermodynamic quantities and the phase diagram of strongly interacting hot and dense magnetized quark matter are obtained with the $ 2 $-flavour Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with Polyakov loop considering finite values of the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the quarks. Susceptibilities associated with constituent quark mass and traced Polyakov loop are used to evaluate chiral and deconfinement transition temperatures. It is found that, inclusion of the AMM of the quarks in presence of the background magnetic field results in a substantial decrease in the chiral as well as deconfinement …
By making use of a simple model that captures the key features of the anomalous Maxwell equations, we study the role of inhomogeneities on the evolution of magnetic fields in a chiral plasma. We find that inhomogeneities of the chiral asymmetry by themselves do not prevent the anomaly-driven inverse cascade and, as in the homogeneous case, the magnetic helicity is transferred from shorter to longer wavelength helical modes of the magnetic field. However, we also find that the evolution appears to be sensitive to the effects of diffusion. In the case when diffusion is negligible, the inverse ca…
We show that the chiral-symmetry-broken phase of massless QED in the presence of a magnetic field exhibits strong paraelectricity. A large anisotropic electric susceptibility develops in the infrared region, where most of the fermions are confined to their lowest Landau level, and dynamical mass and anomalous magnetic moment are generated via the magnetic catalysis mechanism. The nonperturbative nature of this effect is reflected in the dependence of the electric susceptibility on the fine-structure constant. The strong paraelectricity is linked to the electric dipole moments of the particle/a…
Transport properties of dense quark matter are discussed in the strong magnetic field, B. B dependence as well as density dependence of the Hall conductivity is discussed in the inhomogeneous chiral phase. Anomalous Hall effect is intrinsic to the inhomogeneous chiral phase and resembles the one in Weyl semimetals in condensed matter physics. Some theoretical aspects inherent in anomalous Hall effect are revealed.
We study neutrinos gravitationally scattered off a rotating supermassive black hole which is surrounded by a thin accretion disk with a realistic magnetic field. Neutrinos are supposed to be Dirac particles having a nonzero magnetic moment. Neutrinos move along arbitrary trajectories, with the incoming flux being parallel to the equatorial plane. We exactly account for the influence of both gravity and the magnetic field on the neutrino motion and its spin evolution. The general statement that the helicity of an ultrarelativistic neutrino is constant in the particle scattering in an arbitrary …
We investigate the vacuum structure of dense quark matter in strong magnetic fields at finite temperature and densities in a 3 flavor Nambu Jona Lasinio (NJL) model including the Kobayashi-Maskawa-t'Hooft (KMT) determinant term using a variational method. The method uses an explicit structure for the `ground' state in terms of quark-antiquark condensates as well as diquark condensates. The mass gap equations and the superconducting gap equations are solved self consistently and are used to compute the thermodynamic potential along with the charge neutrality conditions. We also derive the equat…
To study the effect of a strong magnetic field $B$ on the sound velocity $v_{s}$ of plane waves propagating in a strongly magnetized quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a chiral magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) description of a perfect (non-dissipative) QGP exhibiting dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (D$χ$SB) is developed using the effective action of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model of QCD at finite temperature, finite baryon chemical potential and in the presence of a strong magnetic field. Here, the D$χ$SB arises due to the phenomenon of magnetic catalysis. Apart from an interesting frequency dependen…
We study the properties of the shear viscosity coefficient of quark matter at finite temperature and chemical potential near chiral phase transition in a strong background magnetic field. A strong magnetic field induces anisotropic features, phase-space Landau-level quantization, and if the magnetic field is sufficiently strong, interferes with prominent QCD phenomena such as dynamical quark mass generation, likely affecting the quark matter transport characteristics. The modified Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with inverse magnetic catalysis effect by fitting the Lattice QCD (LQCD) results is…
The curved spacetime surrounding a rotating black hole dramatically alters the structure of nearby electromagnetic fields. The Wald field which is an asymptotically uniform magnetic field aligned with the angular momentum of the hole provides a convenient starting point to analyze the effects of radiative corrections on electrodynamics in curved spacetime. Since the curvature of the spacetime is small on the scale of the electron's Compton wavelength, the tools of quantum field theory in flat spacetime are reliable and show that a rotating black hole immersed in a magnetic field approaching th…
