Despite having the somewhat successful description of accelerated cosmology, the early evolution of the universe always challenges mankind. Our promising approach lies in a new class of symmetric teleparallel theory of gravity named $f(Q)$, where the non-metricity scalar $Q$ is responsible for the gravitational interaction, which may resolve some of the issues. To study the early evolution of the universe, we presume an anisotropic locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Bianchi-I spacetime and derive the motion equations. We discuss the profiles of energy density, equation of state and skewness parameter and observe that our models archive anisotropic spatial geometry in the early phase of the universe with a possible presence of anisotropic fluid and as time goes on, even in the presence of an anisotropic fluid, the universe could approach isotropy due to inflation and the anisotropy of the fluid fades away at the same time.
Using the methods developed for different Bianchi class A cosmological models we treat the simplest Bianchi class B model, namely Bianchi type V. The future non-linear stability for solutions of the Einstein-Vlasov system is demonstrated and it is shown that these solutions are asymptotically stable to the Milne solution. Within the isotropic solutions of the Einstein-Vlasov system the spatially flat Friedmann solution is unstable within this class, and expanding models tend also to the Milne solution.
Using scaled variables we are able to integrate an equation valid for isotropic and anisotropic Bianchi type I, V, IX models in Brans-Dicke (BD) theory. We analyze known and new solutions for these models in relation with the possibility that anisotropic models asymptotically isotropize, and/or possess inflationary properties. In particular, a new solution of curve ($k\neq0$) Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmologies in Brans-Dicke theory is analyzed.
We present the classical solutions to the Einstein field equations derived using the WKB-like and Hamilton procedures. The investigation is carried out in the commutative and noncommutative scenario for the Bianchi type I cosmological model coupled to barotropic perfect fluid and $λ$ Cosmological for two different gauges. Noncommutativity is achieved by modifying the symplectic structure considering that all minisuperspace variables $\rm q^i$ does not commute and by a deformation between all the minisuperspace variables. In the gauge N=1, it is possible to obtain that the anisotropic parameter…
Semi-classical states for the Wheeler-DeWitt equation of a Bianchi type I model in the presence of a scalar field are analyzed. It is outlined how this scheme can effectively describe more general situations, where the curvature of the Bianchi type IX model and a proper potential term for the scalar field are present. The introduction of a cosmological constant term accounts for the quasi-isotropization mechanism which bridges the proposed framework with a late isotropic phase. This result makes the semi-classical Bianchi I model a plausible scenario for the Universe pre-inflationary phase.
In this work we investigate a model for the early Universe in a Bianchi type-I metric, where the sources of the gravitational field are a fermionic and a bosonic field, interacting through a Yukawa potential, following the standard model of elementary particles. It is shown that the fermionic field has a negative pressure, while the boson has a small positive pressure. The fermionic field is the responsible for an accelerated regime at early times, but since the total pressure tends to zero for large times, a transition to a decelerated regime occurs. Here the Yukawa potential answers for the …
We consider the problem of late-time isotropization in spatially homogeneous but anisotropic cosmological models when the source of the gravitational field consists of two non-interacting perfect fluids -- one tilted and one non-tilted. In particular, we study irrotational Bianchi type V models. By introducing appropriate dimensionless variables, a full global understanding of the state space of the gravitational field equations becomes possible. The issue of isotropization can then be addressed in a simple fashion. We also discuss implications for the cosmic ``no-hair'' theorem for Bianchi mo…
We study the evolution of Bianchi-I space-times filled with a global unidirectional electromagnetic field $F_{mn}$ interacting with a massless scalar dilatonic field according to the law Ψ(ϕ) F^{mn} F_{mn} where Ψ(ϕ) > 0 is an arbitrary function. A qualitative study, among other results, shows that (i) the volume factor always evolves monotonically, (ii) there exist models becoming isotropic at late times and (iii) the expansion generically starts from a singularity but there can be special models starting from a Killing horizon preceded by a static stage. All these features are confirmed for …
We study the Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations for a convex positive potential in a Bianchi I, a Bianchi III and a Kantowski-Sachs universe. After analysing the inherent properties of the system of differential equations, the study of the asymptotic behaviors of the solutions and their stability is done for an exponential potential. The results are compared with those of Burd and Barrow. In contrast with their results, we show that for the BI case isotropy can be reached without inflation and we find new critical points which lead to new exact solutions. On the other hand we recover the result o…
The cosmic, general analitic solutions of the Brans--Dicke Theory for the flat space of homogeneous and isotropic models containing perfect, barotropic, fluids are seen to belong to a wider class of solutions --which includes cosmological models with the open and the closed spaces of the Friedmann--Robertson--Walker metric, as well as solutions for models with homogeneous but anisotropic spaces corresponding to the Bianchi--Type metric clasification-- when all these solutions are expressed in terms of reduced variables. The existence of such a class lies in the fact that the scalar field, $ϕ$,…
Assuming that the space-time is close to isotropic in the sense that the shear parameter is small and that the maximal velocity of the particles is bounded, we have been able to show that for non-diagonal Bianchi I-symmetric spacetimes with collisionless matter the asymptotic behaviour at late times is close to the special case of dust. We also have been able to show that all the Kasner exponents converge to 1/3 and an asymptotic expression for the induced metric has been obtained. The key was a bootstrap argument.
Using the ADM formalism in the minisuperspace, we obtain the commutative and noncommutative exact classical solutions and exact wave function to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with an arbitrary factor ordering, for the anisotropic Bianchi type I cosmological model, coupled to a scalar field, cosmological term and barotropic perfect fluid. We introduce noncommutative scale factors, considering that all minisuperspace variables $\rm q^i$ do not commute, so the symplectic structure was modified. In the classical regime, it is shown that the anisotropic parameter $\rm β_{\pm nc}$ and the field $ϕ$, f…
SU(2) gauge fields coupled to an axion field can acquire an isotropic background solution during inflation. We study homogeneous but anisotropic inflationary solutions in the presence of such (massless) gauge fields. A gauge field in the cosmological background may pose a threat to spatial isotropy. We show, however, that such models $\textit{generally}$ isotropize in Bianchi type-I geometry, and the isotropic solution is the attractor. Restricting the setup by adding an axial symmetry, we revisited the numerical analysis presented in Wolfson et.al (2020). We find that the reported numerical b…
This paper is a study of the effects of anisotropic matter sources on the qualitative evolution of spatially homogenous cosmologies of Bianchi type VIII. The analysis is based on a dynamical system approach and makes use of an anisotropic matter family developed by Calogero and Heinzle which generalises perfect fluids and provides a measure of deviation from isotropy. Thereby the role of perfect fluid solutions is put into a broader context. The results of this paper concern the past and future asymptotic dynamics of locally rotationally symmetric solutions of type VIII with anisotropic matter…
The dynamics of cosmological models with isotropic matter sources (perfect fluids) is extensively studied in the literature; in comparison, the dynamics of cosmological models with anisotropic matter sources is not. In this paper we consider spatially homogeneous locally rotationally symmetric solutions of the Einstein equations with a large class of anisotropic matter models including collisionless matter (Vlasov), elastic matter, and magnetic fields. The dynamics of models of Bianchi types I, II, and IX are completely described; the two most striking results are the following: (i) There exis…
Self-consistent solutions to the spinor, scalar and BI gravitational field equations are obtained. The problems of initial singularity and asymptotically isotropization process of the initially anisotropic space-time are studied. It is also shown that the introduction of the Cosmological constant ($Λ$-term) in the Lagrangian generates oscillations of the BI model, which is not the case in absence of $Λ$ term.
Bianchi type V viscous fluid cosmological model for barotropic fluid distribution with varying cosmological term $Λ$ is investigated. We have examined a cosmological scenario proposing a variation law for Hubble parameter $H$ in the background of homogeneous, anisotropic Bianchi type V space-time. The model isotropizes asymptotically and the presence of shear viscosity accelerates the isotropization. The model describes a unified expansion history of the universe indicating initial decelerating expansion and late time accelerating phase. Cosmological consequences of the model are also discusse…
Self-consistent system of nonlinear spinor field and Bianchi I (BI) gravitational one with time dependent gravitational constant ($G$) and cosmological constant ($Λ$) has been studied. The initial and the asymptotic behaviors of the field functions and the metric one have been thoroughly investigated. Given $Λ= Λ_0/τ^2$, with $τ= \sqrt{-g}$, $G$ has been estimated as a function of $τ$. The role of perfect fluid at the initial state of expansion and asymptotical isotropization process of the initailly anisotropic universe has been elucidated.
In this paper we report on results in the study of spatially homogeneous cosmological models with elastic matter. We show that the behavior of elastic solutions is fundamentally different from that of perfect fluid solutions already in the case of locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Bianchi type I models; this is true even when the elastic material resembles a perfect fluid very closely. In particular, the approach to the initial singularity is characterized by an intricate oscillatory behavior of the scale factors, while the future asymptotic behavior is described by isotropization rates tha…
We consider minisuperspace models constituted of Bianchi I geometries with a free massless scalar field. The classical solutions are always singular (with the trivial exception of flat space-time), and always anisotropic once they begin anisotropic. When quantizing the system, we obtain the Wheeler-DeWitt equation as a four-dimensional massless Klein-Gordon equation. We show that there are plenty of quantum states whose corresponding bohmian trajectories may be non-singular and/or presenting large isotropic phases, even if they begin anisotropic, due to quantum gravitational effects. As a spec…
In this work we construct an effective four-dimensional model by compactifying a ten-dimensional theory of gravity coupled with a real scalar dilaton field on a time-dependent torus. This approach is applied to anisotropic cosmological Bianchi type I model for which we study the classical coupling of the anisotropic scale factors with the two real scalar moduli produced by the compactification process. Under this approach, we present an isotropization mechanism for the Bianchi I cosmological model through the analysis of the ratio between the anisotropic parameters and the volume of the Univer…
In this paper we investigate expanding Bianchi type I models with two tilted fluids with the same linear equation of state, characterized by the equation of state parameter w. Individually the fluids have non-zero energy fluxes w.r.t. the symmetry surfaces, but these cancel each other because of the Codazzi constraint. We prove that when w=0 the model isotropizes to the future. Using numerical simulations and a linear analysis we also find the asymptotic states of models with w>0. We find that future isotropization occurs if and only if $w \leq 1/3$. The results are compared to similar models …
We present a reconstruction algorithm for cosmological models based on $f(\mathcal{Q})$ gravity. We specifically focus on obtaining exact Bianchi Type-I and Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker solutions, finding solutions that might have application in a variety of scenarios such as spontaneous isotropization of Bianchi Type-I models, dark energy, inflation as well as pre-Big Bang cosmologies.
In this paper we give, for the first time, a complete description of the dynamics of tilted spatially homogeneous cosmologies of Bianchi type II. The source is assumed to be a perfect fluid with equation of state $p = (γ-1) μ$, where $γ$ is a constant. We show that unless the perfect fluid is stiff, the tilt destabilizes the Kasner solutions, leading to a Mixmaster-like initial singularity, with the tilt being dynamically significant. At late times the tilt becomes dynamically negligible unless the equation of state parameter satisfies $γ> {10/7}$. We also find that the tilt does not destabili…
The dynamics of the Einstein-Vlasov equations for a class of cosmological models with four Killing vectors is discussed in the case of massive particles. It is shown that in all models analysed the solutions with massive particles are asymptotic to solutions with massless particles at early times. It is also shown that in Bianchi types I and II the solutions with massive particles are asymptotic to dust solutions at late times. That Bianchi type III models are also asymptotic to dust solutions at late times is consistent with our results but is not established by them.
We perform dynamical analysis of anisotropic Rastall cosmologies and, in particular Kantowski-Sachs, locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Bianchi I and LRS Bianchi III cosmologies. Using dynamical system techniques, a qualitative analysis of cosmological equations yield physically interesting cases which are in agreement with observations such as de Sitter, accelerating, stable attractors are isotropic. Features such as isotropization and cosmological bounce are discussed in detail.
The Belinski-Khalatnikov-Lifshitz (BKL) conjecture predicts a chaotic alternation of Kasner epochs in the evolution of generic classical spacetimes towards a spacelike singularity. As a first step towards understanding the full quantum BKL scenario, we analyze a vacuum Bianchi II model with local rotational symmetry, which presents just one Kasner transition. During the Kasner epochs, the quantum state is coherent and it is thus characterized by constant values of the different quantum fluctuations, correlations and higher-order moments. By computing the constants of motion of the system we pr…
We use one of the simplest forms of the K-essence theory and we apply it to the classical anisotropic Bianchi type I cosmological model, with a barotropic perfect fluid modeling the usual matter content and with cosmological constant. The classical solutions for any but the stiff fluid and without cosmological constant are found in closed form, using a time transformation. We also present the solution whith cosmological constant and some particular values of the barotropic parameter. We present the possible isotropization of the cosmological model, using the ratio between the anisotropic param…
We study Dirac spinors in Bianchi type-I cosmological models, within the framework of torsional $f(R)$-gravity. We find four types of results: the resulting dynamic behavior of the universe depends on the particular choice of function $f(R)$; some $f(R)$ models do not isotropize and have no Einstein limit, so that they have no physical significance, whereas for other $f(R)$ models isotropization and Einsteinization occur, and so they are physically acceptable, suggesting that phenomenological arguments may select $f(R)$ models that are physically meaningful; the singularity problem can be avoi…
In this paper we investigate the role of causal heat transport in a spatially homogeneous, locally-rotationally symmetric Bianchi type-V cosmological model. In particular, the causal temperature profile of the cosmological fluid is obtained within the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics. We demonstrate that relaxational effects can alter the temperature profile when the cosmological fluid is out of hydrostatic equilibrium.
The specific behavior of spinor field in curve space-time with the exception of FRW model almost always gives rise to non-trivial non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor. This non-triviality of non-diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor imposes some severe restrictions either on the spinor field or on the metric functions. In this paper within the scope of an anisotropic Bianchi type-I Universe we study the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe. It is found that there exist two possibilities. In one scenario the initially anisotropic Universe evolves in…
We examine the behaviour of homogeneous, anisotropic space-times, specifically the locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi types $I$ and $VII_o$ in the presence of anisotropic matter. By finding an appropriate constant of the motion, and transforming the equations of motion we are able to provide exact solutions in the presence perfect fluids with anisotropic pressures. The solution space covers matter consisting of a single perfect fluid which satisfies the weak energy condition and is rich enough to contain solutions which exhibit behaviour which is qualitatively distinct from the isotropic s…
We analyze if Bianchi I, V, and IX models in the Induced Gravity (IG) theory can evolve to a Friedmann--Roberson--Walker (FRW) expansion due to the non--minimal coupling of gravity and the scalar field. The analytical results that we found for the Brans-Dicke (BD) theory are now applied to the IG theory which has $ω\ll 1$ ($ω$ being the square ratio of the Higgs to Planck mass) in a cosmological era in which the IG--potential is not significant. We find that the isotropization mechanism crucially depends on the value of $ω$. Its smallness also permits inflationary solutions. For the Bianch V m…
We analyze the phase space of Bianchi I cosmologies filled by a spin fluid in the framework of $f(R)$-gravity with torsion using a combination of the dynamical systems approach and the 1+3 covariant formalism. In the simple case of $f(R)=R^n$ our results allow a quantification of the role of torsion and the spin of the cosmic fluid in the evolution of the cosmology. While torsion is able to modify the cosmological dynamics with respect to the purely metric case, the spin has little influence on the cosmology. We argue that this is due to the different symmetries of the tensor characterizing th…
Scalar field cosmologies with a generalized harmonic potential and a matter fluid with a barotropic Equation of State (EoS) with barotropic index $γ$ for Locally Rotationally Symmetric (LRS) Bianchi III metric and open Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric are investigated. Methods from the theory of averaging of nonlinear dynamical systems are used to prove that time-dependent systems and their corresponding time-averaged versions have the same late-time dynamics. Therefore, simple time-averaged systems determine the future asymptotic behavior. Depending on values of barotropic in…
The influence of Inflation on initial (i.e. at Planck's epoch) large anisotropy of the Universe is studied, considering a more general metric than the isotropic one: the locally rotationally symmetric (L.R.S.) Bianchi IX metric. We find, then, a large set of initial conditions of intrinsic curvature and shear allowing an inflationary epoch that make the anisotropy negligible. These are not trivial because of the non-linearity of the Einstein's equations.
We study the locally rotational symmetry Bianchi type-I dark energy model in the framework of $f(T)$ theory of gravity, where $T$ denotes the torsion scalar. A viable cosmological model is undertaken and the isotropization of this latter is checked, yielding a result that reflects the real evolution of our universe. Moreover, still in the anisotropic optic, a more complicated $f(T)$ model is obtained from the cosmological reconstruction scheme and the analysis shows that the universe is more anisotropic at the beginning if the terms of higher order in $T$ are not considered. This means that th…
We present a covariant decomposition of Einstein's Field Equations which is particularly suitable for perturbations of spherically symmetric -- and general locally rotationally symmetric -- spacetimes. Based upon the utility of the 1+3 covariant approach to perturbation theory in cosmology, the semi-tetrad, 1+1+2 approach presented here should be useful for analysing perturbations of a variety of systems in a covariant and gauge-invariant manner. Such applications range from stellar objects to cosmological models such as the spherically symmetric Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi solutions or the class of…
Einstein's field equations for stationary Bianchi type II models with a perfect fluid source are investigated. The field equations are rewritten as a system of autonomous first order differential equations. Dimensionless variables are subsequently introduced for which the reduced phase space is compact. The system is then studied qualitatively using the theory of dynamical systems. It is shown that the locally rotationally symmetric models are not asymptotically self-similar for small values of the independent , tovariable. A new exact solution is also given.
Locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Bianchi Type I cosmological models are examined in the presence of dynamically anisotropic dark energy and perfect fluid. We assume that the dark energy (DE) is minimally interacting, has dynamical energy density, anisotropic equation of state parameter (EoS). The conservation of the energy-momentum tensor of the DE is assumed to consist of two separately additive conserved parts. A special law is assumed for the deviation from isotropic EoS, which is consistent with the assumption on the conservation of the energy-momentum tensor of the DE. Exact solutions…
Scalar field cosmologies with a generalized harmonic potential and a matter fluid with a barotropic Equation of State (EoS) with barotropic index $γ$ for the Locally Rotationally Symmetric (LRS) Bianchi I and flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metrics are investigated. Methods from the theory of averaging of nonlinear dynamical systems are used to prove that time-dependent systems and their corresponding time-averaged versions have the same late-time dynamics. Therefore, the simplest time-averaged system determines the future asymptotic behavior. Depending on the values of $γ$, th…
Using the methods developed for the Bianchi I case we have shown that a boostrap argument is also suitable to treat the future non-linear stability for reflection symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Vlasov system of Bianchi types II and VI$_0$. These solutions are asymptotic to the Collins-Stewart solution with dust and the Ellis-MacCallum solution respectively. We have thus generalized the results obtained by Rendall and Uggla in the case of locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi II spacetimes to the reflection symmetric case. However we needed to assume small data. For Bianchi VI$_0$ there i…
The dynamics of a class of cosmological models with collisionless matter and four Killing vectors is studied in detail and compared with that of corresponding perfect fluid models. In many cases it is possible to identify asymptotic states of the spacetimes near the singularity or in a phase of unlimited expansion. Bianchi type II models show oscillatory behaviour near the initial singularity which is, however, simpler than that of the mixmaster model.
We analyse spatially homogenous cosmological models of locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type III with a massive scalar field as matter model. Our main result concerns the future asymptotics of these spacetimes and gives the dominant time behaviour of the metric and the scalar field for all solutions for late times. This metric is forever expanding in all directions, however in one spatial direction only at a logarithmic rate, while at a power-law rate in the other two. Although the energy density goes to zero, it is matter dominated in the sense that the metric components differ qualitat…
We consider a magnetic Bianchi I braneworld, embedded in between two Schwarzschild-AdS spacetimes, boosted equal amounts in opposite directions and compare them to the analagous solution in four-dimensional General Relativity. The efficient dissipation of anisotropy on the brane is explicitly demonstrated, a process we dub braneworld isotropization. From the bulk point of view, we attribute this to anisotropic energy being carried into the bulk by hot gravitons leaving the brane. From the brane point of view this can be interpreted in terms of the production of particles in the dual CFT. We ex…
The aim of this paper is to explore teleparallel conformal Killing vector fields (CKVFs) of locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Bianchi type V spacetimes in the context of teleparallel gravity and compare the obtained results with those of general relativity. The general solution of teleparallel conformal Killing's equations is found in terms of some unknown functions of t and x , along with a set of integrability conditions. The integrability conditions are solved in some particular cases to get the final form of teleparallel CKVFs. It is observed that the LRS Bianchi type V spacetimes admit…
We study the late time evolution of a class of exact anisotropic cosmological solutions of Einstein's equations, namely spatially homogeneous cosmologies of Bianchi type VII$_0$ with a perfect fluid source. We show that, in contrast to models of Bianchi type VII$_h$ which are asymptotically self-similar at late times, Bianchi VII$_0$ models undergo a complicated type of self-similarity breaking. This symmetry breaking affects the late time isotropization that occurs in these models in a significant way: if the equation of state parameter $γ$ satisfies $γ\leq 4/3$ the models isotropize as regar…
Cosmological solutions are obtained in an anisotropic Kantowski-Sachs (KS) and Bianchi Type-I universes considering a cosmological constant with Skyrme fluid. Interestingly, the solutions obtained here in both the KS and Bianchi-I anisotropic universes are found isotropize at late time due to the presence of the Skyrme fluid even in the absence of $Λ$ term or any inflationary mechanism involving the inflaton field. A comparative study of both the anisotropic cosmological models are carried out here and found that Bianchi-I universe admits oscillatory solutions for a given matter configuration.…
We consider some aspects of the global evolution problem of Hamiltonian homogeneous, anisotropic cosmologies derived from a purely quadratic action functional of the scalar curvature. We show that models can isotropize in the positive asymptotic direction and that quadratic diagonal Bianchi IX models do not recollapse and may be regular initially. Although the global existence and isotropization results we prove hold quite generally, they are applied to specific Bianchi models in an attempt to describe how certain dynamical properties uncommon to the general relativity case, become generic fea…
