We conjecture a new lower bound on the algebraic connectivity of a graph that involves the number of vertices of high eccentricity in a graph. We prove that this lower bound implies a strengthening of the Laplacian Spread Conjecture. We discuss further conjectures, also strengthening the Laplacian Spread Conjecture, that include a conjecture for simple graphs and a conjecture for weighted graphs.
In this article, we extend the notion of the Laplacian spread to simple directed graphs (digraphs) using the restricted numerical range. First, we provide Laplacian spread values for several families of digraphs. Then, we prove sharp upper bounds on the Laplacian spread for all polygonal and balanced digraphs. In particular, we show that the validity of the Laplacian spread bound for balanced digraphs is equivalent to the Laplacian spread conjecture for simple undirected graphs, which was conjectured in 2011 and proven in 2021. Moreover, we prove an equivalent statement for weighted balanced d…
In this article, various aspects of Laplacian spectra of power graphs of finite cyclic, dicyclic and finite $p$-groups are studied. Algebraic connectivity of power graphs of the above groups are considered and determined completely for that of finite $p$-groups. Further, the multiplicity of Laplacian spectral radius of power graphs of the above groups are studied and determined completely for that of dicyclic and finite $p$-groups. The equality of the vertex connectivity and the algebraic connectivity is characterized for power graphs of all of the above groups. Orders of dicyclic groups, for …
For a connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices, recall that the distance signless Laplacian matrix of $G$ is defined to be $\mathcal{Q}(G)=Tr(G)+\mathcal{D}(G)$, where $\mathcal{D}(G)$ is the distance matrix, $Tr(G)=diag(D_1, D_2, \ldots, D_n)$ and $D_{i}$ is the row sum of $\mathcal{D}(G)$ corresponding to vertex $v_{i}$. Denote by $ρ^{\mathcal{D}}(G),$ $ρ_{min}^{\mathcal{D}}(G)$ the largest eigenvalue and the least eigenvalue of $\mathcal{D}(G)$, respectively. And denote by $q^{\mathcal{D}}(G)$, $q_{min}^{\mathcal{D}}(G)$ the largest eigenvalue and the least eigenvalue of $\mathcal{Q}(G)$, respec…
Let $G$ be a simple graph. The signless Laplacian spread of $G$ is defined as the maximum distance of pairs of its signless Laplacian eigenvalues. This paper establishes some new bounds, both lower and upper, for the signless Laplacian spread. Several of these bounds depend on invariant parameters of the graph. We also use a minmax principle to find several lower bounds for this spectral invariant.
Recently Ayyaswamy [1] have introduced a novel concept of the signless Laplacian Estrada index (after here $SLEE$) associated with a graph $G$. After works, we have identified the unique graph with maximum $SLEE$ with a given parameter such as: number of cut vertices, (vertex) connectivity and edge connectivity. In this paper we continue out characterization for two further parameters; diameter and number of cut vertices.
Signless Laplacian Estrada index of a graph $G$, defined as $SLEE(G)=\sum^{n}_{i=1}e^{q_i}$, where $q_1, q_2, \cdots, q_n$ are the eigenvalues of the matrix $\mathbf{Q}(G)=\mathbf{D}(G)+\mathbf{A}(G)$. We determine the unique graphs with maximum signless Laplacian Estrada indices among the set of graphs with given number of cut edges, pendent vertices, (vertex) connectivity and edge connectivity.

Let $τ(G)$ and $κ'(G)$ denote the edge-connectivity and the spanning tree packing number of a graph $G$, respectively. Proving a conjecture initiated by Cioaba and Wong, Liu et al. in 2014 showed that for any simple graph $G$ with minimum degree $δ\ge 2k \ge 4$, if the second largest adjacency eigenvalue of $G$ satisfies $λ_2(G) < δ- \frac{2k-1}{δ+1}$, then $τ(G) \ge k$. Similar results involving the Laplacian eigenvalues and the signless Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ are also obtained. In this paper, we find a function $f(δ, k, g)$ such that for every graph $G$ with minimum degree $δ\ge 2k \ge…
The Laplacian spread of a graph is the difference between the largest eigenvalue and the second-smallest eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix of the graph. We find that the class of strongly regular graphs attains the maximum of largest eigenvalues, the minimum of second-smallest eigenvalues of Laplacian matrices and hence the maximum of Laplacian spreads among all simple connected graphs of fixed order, minimum degree, maximum degree, minimum size of common neighbors of two adjacent vertices and minimum size of common neighbors of two nonadjacent vertices. Some other extremal graphs are also pr…
Let $G$ be a simple connected simple graph of order $n$. The distance Laplacian matrix $D^{L}(G)$ is defined as $D^L(G)=Diag(Tr)-D(G)$, where $Diag(Tr)$ is the diagonal matrix of vertex transmissions and $D(G)$ is the distance matrix of $G$. The eigenvalues of $D^{L}(G)$ are the distance Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ and are denoted by $\partial_{1}^{L}(G), \partial_{2}^{L}(G),\dots,\partial_{n}^{L}(G)$. The \textit{ distance Laplacian spread} $DLS(G)$ of a connected graph $G$ is the difference between largest and second smallest distance Laplacian eigenvalues, that is, $\partial_{1}^{L}(G)-\pa…
In this paper, we investigate some relations between the invariants (including vertex and edge connectivity and forwarding indices) of a graph and its Laplacian eigenvalues. In addition, we present a sufficient condition for the existence of Hamiltonicity in a graph involving its Laplacian eigenvalues.
Let $G=\left( V\left( G\right) ,E\left( G\right) \right) $ be an $\left( n,m\right) $-graph and $X$ a nonempty proper subset of $V\left( G\right) $. Let $X^{c}=V\left( G\right) \backslash X$.\ The edge density of $X$ in $G$ is given by \begin{equation*} ρ_{G}\left( X\right) =\frac{n\left\vert E_{X}\left( G\right) \right\vert }{\left\vert X\right\vert \left\vert X^{c}\right\vert }, \end{equation*} where $E_{X}\left( G\right) \ $ is the set of edges in $G$ with one end in $% X $ and the other in $X^{c}$. The Laplacian spread of a graph is the difference between the greatest Laplacian eigenvalue …
We study the Laplacian eigenvalues of the zero divisor graph $Γ\left(\mathbb{Z}_{n}\right)$ of the ring $\mathbb{Z}_{n}$ and prove that $Γ\left(\mathbb{Z}_{p^t}\right)$ is Laplacian integral for every prime $p$ and positive integer $t\geq 2$. We also prove that the Laplacian spectral radius and the algebraic connectivity of $Γ\left(\mathbb{Z}_{n}\right)$ for most of the values of $n$ are, respectively, the largest and the second smallest eigenvalues of the vertex weighted Laplacian matrix of a graph which is defined on the set of proper divisors of $n$. The values of $n$ for which algebraic co…
The characteristic polynomials of the adjacency matrix of line graphs of caterpillars and then the characteristic polynomials of their Laplacian or signless Laplacian matrices are characterized, using recursive formulas. Furthermore, the obtained results are applied on the determination of upper and lower bounds on the algebraic connectivity of these graphs.
Let $G$ be a simple graph and $Q(G)$ be the signless Laplacian matrix of $G$. Let $S_α(G)$ be the sum of the $α$-th powers of the nonzero eigenvalues of $Q(G)$. We disprove two conjectures by You and Yang on the extremal values of $S_α(G)$ among bipartite graphs and among graphs with bounded connectivity.
Let $\mathcal{G}$ be a $k$-uniform hypergraph, $\mathcal{L}_{\mathcal{G}}$ be its Laplacian tensor. And $β( \mathcal{G})$ denotes the maximum number of linearly independent nonnegative eigenvectors of $\mathcal{L}_{\mathcal{G}}$ corresponding to the eigenvalue $0$. In this paper, $β( \mathcal{G})$ is called the geometry connectivity of $\mathcal{G}$. We show that the number of connected components of $\mathcal{G}$ equals the geometry connectivity $β( \mathcal{G})$.
For a simple connected graph $G$, let $D(G)$, $Tr(G)$, $D^{L}(G)$ and $D^{Q}(G)$, respectively be the distance matrix, the diagonal matrix of the vertex transmissions, distance Laplacian matrix and the distance signless Laplacian matrix of a graph $G$. The convex linear combinations $D_α(G)$ of $Tr(G)$ and $D(G)$ is defined as $D_α(G)=αTr(G)+(1-α)D(G)$, $0\leq α\leq 1$. As $D_{0}(G)=D(G), ~~~ 2D_{\frac{1}{2}}(G)=D^{Q}(G), ~~~ D_{1}(G)=Tr(G)$ and $D_α(G)-D_β(G)=(α-β)D^{L}(G)$, this matrix reduces to merging the distance spectral, distance Laplacian spectral and distance signless Laplacian spect…
This article focuses on finding the eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix of the comaximal graph $Γ(\mathbb Z_n)$ of the ring $\mathbb Z_n$ for $n> 2$. We determine the eigenvalues of $Γ(\mathbb Z_n)$ for various $n$ and also provide a procedure to find the eigenvalues of $Γ(\mathbb Z_n)$ for any $n> 2$. We show that $Γ(\mathbb Z_n)$ is Laplacian Integral for $n=p^αq^β$ where $p,q$ are primes and $α, β$ are non-negative integers. The algebraic and vertex connectivity of $Γ(\mathbb Z_n)$ have been shown to be equal for all $n> 2$. An upper bound on the second largest eigenvalue of $Γ(\mathbb Z_n)…
In this paper, we study the multiplicity of the Laplacian eigenvalues of trees. It is known that for trees, integer Laplacian eigenvalues larger than $1$ are simple and also the multiplicity of Laplacian eigenvalue $1$ has been well studied before. Here we consider the multiplicities of the other (non-integral) Laplacian eigenvalues. We give an upper bound and determine the trees of order $n$ that have a multiplicity that is close to the upper bound $\frac{n-3}{2}$, and emphasize the particular role of the algebraic connectivity.
For a graph $G$, let $λ_2(G)$ denote its second smallest Laplacian eigenvalue. It was conjectured that $λ_2(G) + λ_2(\overline G) \ge 1$, where $\overline G$ is the complement of $G$. In this paper, it is shown that $\max\{λ_2(G), λ_2(\overline G)\} \ge 2/5$.
For a graph $G$ and a non-zero real number $α$, the graph invariant $S_α(G)$ is the sum of the $α^{th}$ power of the non-zero signless Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$. In this paper, we obtain the sharp bounds of $S_α(G)$ for a connected bipartite graph $G$ on $n$ vertices and a connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices having a connectivity less than or equal to $k$, respectively, and propose some open problems for future research.
In this paper we explore some results concerning the spread of the line and the total graph of a given graph. In particular, it is proved that for an $(n,m)$ connected graph $G$ with $m > n \geq 4$ the spread of $G$ is less than or equal to the spread of its line graph, where the equality holds if and only if $G$ is regular bipartite. A sufficient condition for the spread of the graph not be greater than the signless Laplacian spread for a class of non bipartite and non regular graphs is proved. Additionally, we derive an upper bound for the spread of the line graph of graphs on $n$ vertices h…
We study the algebraic connectivity (or second Laplacian eigenvalue) of token graphs, also called symmetric powers of graphs. The $k$-token graph $F_k(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the graph whose vertices are the $k$-subsets of vertices from $G$, two of which being adjacent whenever their symmetric difference is a pair of adjacent vertices in $G$. Recently, it was conjectured that the algebraic connectivity of $F_k(G)$ equals the algebraic connectivity of $G$. In this paper, we prove the conjecture for new infinite families of graphs, such as trees and graphs with maximum degree large enough.
The second-largest eigenvalue and second-smallest Laplacian eigenvalue of a graph are measures of its connectivity. These eigenvalues can be used to analyze the robustness, resilience, and synchronizability of networks, and are related to connectivity attributes such as the vertex- and edge-connectivity, isoperimetric number, and characteristic path length. In this paper, we present two upper bounds for the second-largest eigenvalues of regular graphs and multigraphs of a given order which guarantee a desired vertex- or edge-connectivity. The given bounds are in terms of the order and degree o…
The $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity $a_d(G)$ of a graph $G=(V,E)$, introduced by Jordán and Tanigawa, is a quantitative measure of the $d$-dimensional rigidity of $G$ that is defined in terms of the eigenvalues of stiffness matrices (which are analogues of the graph Laplacian) associated to mappings of the vertex set $V$ into $\mathbb{R}^d$. Here, we analyze the $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity of complete graphs. In particular, we show that, for $d\geq 3$, $a_d(K_{d+1})=1$, and for $n\geq 2d$, \[ \left\lceil\frac{n}{2d}\right\rceil-2d+1\leq a_d(K_n) \leq \frac{2n}{3(d-1)}+\frac{1…
In this paper we show that the $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity of an arbitrary graph $G$ is bounded above by its $1$-dimensional algebraic connectivity, i.e., $a_d(G) \leq a_1(G)$, where $a_1(G)$ corresponds the well-studied second smallest eigenvalue of the graph Laplacian.
Let $R$ be a ring with unity. The cozero-divisor graph of a ring $R$, denoted by $Γ'(R)$, is an undirected simple graph whose vertices are the set of all non-zero and non-unit elements of $R$, and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $x \notin Ry$ and $y \notin Rx$. In this paper, first we study the Laplacian spectrum of $Γ'(\mathbb{Z}_n)$. We show that the graph $Γ'(\mathbb{Z}_{pq})$ is Laplacian integral. Further, we obtain the Laplacian spectrum of $Γ'(\mathbb{Z}_n)$ for $n = p^{n_1}q^{n_2}$, where $n_1, n_2 \in \mathbb{N}$ and $p, q$ are distinct primes. In order t…
We apply eigenvalue interlacing techniques for obtaining lower and upper bounds for the sums of Laplacian eigenvalues of graphs, and characterize equality. This leads to generalizations of, and variations on theorems by Grone, and Grone and Merris. As a consequence we obtain inequalities involving bounds for some well-known parameters of a graph, such as edge-connectivity, and the isoperimetric number.

The Laplacian matrix of a simple graph is the difference of the diagonal matrix of vertex degree and the (0,1) adjacency matrix. In the past decades, the Laplacian spectrum has received much more and more attention, since it has been applied to several fields, such as randomized algorithms, combinatorial optimization problems and machine learning. This paper is primarily a survey of various aspects of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix of a graph for the past teens. In addition, some new unpublished results and questions are concluded. Emphasis is given on classifications of the upper and…
We consider the class of simple graphs with large algebraic connectivity (the second-smallest eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix). For this class of graphs we determine the asymptotic behavior of the number of Eulerian orientations. In addition, we establish some new properties of the Laplacian matrix, as well as an estimate of a conditionality of matrices with the asymptotic diagonal predominance
Let $q(G)$ denote the $Q$-index of a graph $G$, which is the largest signless Laplacian eigenvalue of $G$. We prove best possible upper bounds of $q(G)$ and best possible lower bounds of $q(\overline{G})$ for a connected graph $G$ to be $k$-connected and maximally connected, respectively. Similar upper bounds of $q(G)$ and lower bounds of $q(\overline{G})$ to assure $G$ to be super-connected are also obtained. Upper bounds of $q(G)$ and lower bounds of $q(\overline{G})$ to assure a connected triangle-free graph $G$ to be $k$-connected, maximally connected and super-connected are also respectiv…
Let $G$ be a graph with $n$ vertices. We denote the largest signless Laplacian eigenvalue of $G$ by $q_1(G)$ and Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ by $μ_1(G)\ge\cdots\geμ_{n-1}(G)\geμ_n(G)=0$. It is a conjecture on Laplacian spread of graphs that $μ_1(G)-μ_{n-1}(G)\le n-1$ or equivalently $μ_1(G)+μ_1(\Gb)\le2n-1$. We prove the conjecture for bipartite graphs. Also we show that for any bipartite graph $G$, $μ_1(G)μ_1(\Gb)\le n(n-1)$. Aouchiche and Hansen [A survey of Nordhaus--Gaddum type relations, Discrete Appl. Math. 161 (2013), 466--546] conjectured that %for any graph $G$ with $n$ vertices, $q_…
The analytic connectivity, proposed as a substitute of the algebraic connectivity in the setting of hypergraphs, is an important quantity in spectral hypergraph theory. The definition of the analytic connectivity for a uniform hypergraph involves a series of optimization problems (POPs) associated with the Laplacian tensor of the hypergraph with nonnegativity constraints and a sphere constraint, which poses difficulties in computation. To reduce the involved computation, properties on the algebraic connectivity are further exploited, and several important structured uniform hypergraphs are sho…
For a simple connected graph $G$ of order $n$ having distance Laplacian eigenvalues $ ρ^{L}_{1}\geq ρ^{L}_{2}\geq \cdots \geq ρ^{L}_{n}$, the distance Laplacian energy $DLE(G)$ is defined as $DLE(G)=\sum_{i=1}^{n}\left|ρ^{L}_i-\frac{2 W(G)}{n}\right|$, where $W(G)$ is the Wiener index of $G$. We obtain a relationship between the Laplacian energy and distance Laplacian energy for graphs with diameter 2. We obtain lower bounds for the distance Laplacian energy $DLE(G)$ in terms of the order $n$, the Wiener index $W(G)$, independence number, vertex connectivity number and other given parameters. …
Let D be a strongly connected digraph and A(D) be the adjacency matrix of D. Let diag(D) be the diagonal matrix with outdegrees of the vertices of D and Q(D) = diag(D) + A(D) be the signless Laplacian matrix of D. The spectral radius of Q(D) is called the signless Laplacian spectral radius of D, denoted by q(D). In this paper, we give sharp bound on q(D) with outdegree sequence and compare the bound with some known bounds, establish some sharp upper or lower bound on q(D) with some given parameter such as clique number, girth or vertex connectivity, and characterize the corresponding extremal …
Let $\mathcal{G}$ be the set of simple graphs (or multigraphs) $G$ such that for each $G \in \mathcal{G}$ there exists at least two non-empty disjoint proper subsets $V_{1},V_{2}\subseteq V(G)$ satisfying $V(G)\setminus(V_{1} \cup V_{2})\neq ϕ$ and edge connectivity $κ'(G)=e(V_{i},V(G)\backslash V_{i})$ for $1\leq i \leq 2$. A multigraph is a graph with possible multiple edges, but no loops. Let $τ(G)$ be the maximum number of edge-disjoint spanning trees of a graph $G$. Motivated by a question of Seymour on the relationship between eigenvalues of a graph $G$ and bounds of $τ(G)$, we mainly gi…
The paper is a brief survey of some recent new results and progress of the Laplacian spectra of graphs and complex networks (in particular, random graph and the small world network). The main contents contain the spectral radius of the graph Laplacian for given a degree sequence, the Laplacian coefficients, the algebraic connectivity and the graph doubly stochastic matrix, and the spectra of random graphs and the small world networks. In addition, some questions are proposed.
For a graph $G$, let $λ_2(G)$ denote its second smallest Laplacian eigenvalue. It was conjectured that $λ_2(G) + λ_2(\overline{G}) \geq 1$, where $\bar{G}$ is the complement of $G$. Here, we prove this conjecture in the general case. Also, we will show that $\max\{λ_2(G), λ_2(\overline{G})\} \geq 1 - O(n^{-\frac 13})$, where $n$ is the number of vertices of $G$.
The generalized reciprocal distance matrix $RD_α(G)$ was defined as $RD_α(G)=αRT(G)+(1-α)RD(G),\quad 0\leq α\leq 1.$ Let $λ_{1}(RD_α(G))\geq λ_{2}(RD_α(G))\geq \cdots \geq λ_{n}(RD_α(G))$ be the eigenvalues of $RD_α$ matrix of graphs $G$. Then the $RD_α$-spread of graph $G$ can be defined as $S_{RD_α}(G)=λ_{1}(RD_α(G))-λ_{n}(RD_α(G))$. In this paper, we first obtain some sharp lower and upper bounds for the $RD_α$-spread of graphs. Then we determine the lower bounds for the $RD_α$-spread of bipartite graphs and graphs with given clique number. At last, we give the $RD_α$-spread of double star …
Let $κ'(G)$, $κ(G)$, $μ_{n-1}(G)$ and $μ_1(G)$ denote the edge-connectivity, vertex-connectivity, the algebraic connectivity and the Laplacian spectral radius of $G$, respectively. In this paper, we prove that for integers $k\geq 2$ and $r\geq 2$, and any simple graph $G$ of order $n$ with minimum degree $δ\geq k$, girth $g\geq 3$ and clique number $ω(G)\leq r$, the edge-connectivity $κ'(G)\geq k$ if $μ_{n-1}(G) \geq \frac{(k-1)n}{N(δ,g)(n-N(δ,g))}$ or if $μ_{n-1}(G) \geq \frac{(k-1)n}{φ(δ,r)(n-φ(δ,r))}$, where $N(δ,g)$ is the Moore bound on the smallest possible number of vertices such that t…
There is a deep and interesting connection between the topological properties of a graph and the behaviour of the dynamical system defined on it. We analyse various kind of graphs, with different contrasting connectivity or degree characteristics, using the signless Laplacian matrix. We expose the theoretical results about the eigenvalue of the matrix and how they are related to the dynamical system. Then, we perform numerical computations on real-like graphs and observe the resulting system. Comparing the theoretical and numerical results we found a perfect consistency. Furthermore, we define…
For a group $G,$ the enhanced power graph of $G$ is a graph with vertex set $G$ in which two distinct elements $x, y$ are adjacent if and only if there exists an element $w$ in $G$ such that both $x$ and $y$ are powers of $w.$ The proper enhanced power graph is the induced subgraph of the enhanced power graph on the set $G \setminus S,$ where $S$ is the set of dominating vertices of the enhanced power graph. In this paper, we first characterize the dominating vertices of enhanced power graph of any finite nilpotent group. Thereafter, we classify all nilpotent groups $G$ such that the proper en…
Expanders are sparse graph that are strongly connected, where {\it connectivity} is quantified using eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix, and {\it sparsity} in terms of vertex valency. We give a model of random graphs and study their connectivity and sparsity. This model is a particular case of soft geometric random graphs, and allows to construct sparse graphs with good expansion properties, as well as highly clustered ones. On those graphs, we study the speed at which random walks spread in the graph, and visit all vertices. As an illustration, we build a model for mainland France and study …
How to draw the vertices of a complete multipartite graph $G$ on different points of a bounded $d$-dimensional integer grid, such that the sum of squared distances between vertices of $G$ is (i) minimized or (ii) maximized? For both problems we provide a characterization of the solutions. For the particular case $d=1$, our solution for (i) also settles the minimum-2-sum problem for complete bipartite graphs; the minimum-2-sum problem was defined by Juvan and Mohar in 1992. Weighted centroidal Voronoi tessellations are the solution for (ii). Such drawings are related with Laplacian eigenvalues …
