We consider a family of 4-dimensional black hole solutions from Dehnen et al. ( Grav. Cosmol. 9:153, arXiv: gr-qc/0211049, 2003) governed by natural number $q= 1, 2, 3 , \dots$, which appear in the model with anisotropic fluid and the equations of state: $p_r = -ρ(2q-1)^{-1}$, $p_t = - p_r$, where $p_r$ and $p_t$ are pressures in radial and transverse directions, respectively, and $ρ> 0$ is the density. These equations of state obey weak, strong and dominant energy conditions. For $q = 1$ the metric of the solution coincides with that of the Reissner-Nordström one. The global structure of solutions is outlined, giving rise to Carter-Penrose diagram of Reissner-Nordström or Schwarzschild types for odd $q = 2k + 1$ or even $q = 2k$, respectively. Certain physical parameters corresponding to BH solutions (gravitational mass, PPN parameters, Hawking temperature and entropy) are calculated. We obtain and analyse the quasinormal modes for a test massless scalar field in the eikonal approximation. For limiting case $q = + \infty$, they coincide with the well-known results for the Schwarzschild solution. We show that the Hod conjecture which connect the Hawking temperature and the damping rate is obeyed for all $q \geq 2$ and all (allowed) values of parameters.
In this paper we analyze the propagation of a charged scalar field in a Reissner-Nordström black hole endowed with one anisotropic fluid that can play the role of a cosmological term for certain set of parameters. The evolution of a scalar wave scattering is examined giving rise to the same superradiant scattering condition as in the de Sitter case. In addition, an analysis of the modes coming from the application of quasinormal boundary conditions is presented. Some special cases displaying analytical solutions for the quasinormal frequencies are discussed. Moreover, the superradiant conditio…
Detailed knowledge about equilibration processes is of interest for various fields of physics, including heavy ion collision experiments and quantum quenched condensed matter systems. We study the approach to equilibrium at late times within two types of strongly coupled thermal systems in 3+1 dimensions: systems in the presence of (i) a non-zero charge density, or (ii) a magnetic field at vanishing charge density. Utilizing the gauge/gravity correspondence, we map the aforementioned problem to the computation of quasinormal frequencies around two particular classes of black branes within the …
Gauss-Bonnet holographic fluid is a useful theoretical laboratory to study the effects of curvature-squared terms in the dual gravity action on transport coefficients, quasinormal spectra and the analytic structure of thermal correlators at strong coupling. To understand the behavior and possible pathologies of the Gauss-Bonnet fluid in $3+1$ dimensions, we compute (analytically and non-perturbatively in the Gauss-Bonnet coupling) its second-order transport coefficients, the retarded two- and three-point correlation functions of the energy-momentum tensor in the hydrodynamic regime as well as …
The goal of this paper is to build a foundation for, and explore the possibility of, using high overtone quasinormal modes of analog black holes to probe the small scale (microscopic) structure of a background fluid in which an analog black hole is formed. This may provide a tool to study the small scale structure of some interesting quantum systems such as Bose-Einstein condensates. In order to build this foundation, we first look into the hydrodynamic case where we calculate the high overtone quasinormal mode frequencies of a 3+1 dimensional canonical non-rotating acoustic black hole. The le…

We present an exact expression for the quasinormal modes of acoustic disturbances in a rotating 2+1 dimensional sonic black hole (draining bathtub fluid flow) in the low frequency limit and evaluate the adiabatic invariant proposed by Kunstatter. We also compute, via Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule the equivalent area spectrum for this acoustic black hole, and we compute the superradiance phenomena for pure spinning 2+1 black holes.
We construct quasinormal modes for neutron stars in $R^2$ gravity in the Einstein frame, considering scalar masses in the sub-neV range. In particular, we investigate the fundamental quadrupole fluid f-modes and the dipole fluid F-modes. Employing six equations of state covering matter content with nucleons, hyperons, and quarks, we then propose universal relations for the quadrupole f-modes and dipole F-modes. The dipole F-modes are ultra-long lived and, for the lower scalar masses, their frequencies are inversely proportional to the corresponding Compton wavelength.

We study dynamical condensation process in a holographic superconductor model with anisotropy. The time-dependent numerical solution is constructed for the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with complex scalar in asymptotic AdS spacetime. The introduction of dilaton field generates the anisotropy in boundary spatial directions. In analogy of isotropic case, we have two black hole solutions below certain critical temperature $T_c$, the anisotropic charged black hole with and without scalar hair, corresponding respectively to the supercooled normal phase and superconducting phase in the boundary t…
Many properties of black holes can be studied using acoustic analogues in the laboratory through the propagation of sound waves. We investigate in detail sound wave propagation in a rotating acoustic (2+1)-dimensional black hole, which corresponds to the ``draining bathtub'' fluid flow. We compute the quasinormal mode frequencies of this system and discuss late-time power-law tails. Due to the presence of an ergoregion, waves in a rotating acoustic black hole can be superradiantly amplified. We compute superradiant reflection coefficients and instability timescales for the acoustic black hole …

Motivated by the gravity/fluid correspondence, we introduce a new method for characterizing nonlinear gravitational interactions. Namely we map the nonlinear perturbative form of the Einstein equation to the equations of motion of a collection of nonlinearly-coupled harmonic oscillators. These oscillators correspond to the quasinormal or normal modes of the background spacetime. We demonstrate the mechanics and the utility of this formalism within the context of perturbed asymptotically anti-de Sitter black brane spacetimes. We confirm in this case that the boundary fluid dynamics are equivale…
A spacetime endowed with an anisotropic fluid is proposed for the interior of a Schwarzschild black hole. The geometry has an instantaneous Minkowski form and is a solution of Einstein's equations with a stress tensor on the r.h.s. obeying all the energy conditions. The interior fluid is compressible, with time dependent shear and bulk viscosity coefficients. The energy density $ρ$ and the ''radial'' pressure $p$ observe the equation of state $p + ρ= 0$ (as for dark energy), with no pressures on $θ-$ and $ϕ-$ directions. However, the angular components of the viscous part of the stress tensor …
In this paper we consider spherically symmetric interior spacetimes filled by anisotropic fluids in the context of Hořava gravity and Einstein-aether theory. We assume a specific non-static configuration of the aether vector field and show that the field equations admit a family of exact analytical solutions which can be obtained if one of the two metric coefficients is assigned. We study as an illustrative example the case in which the metric of the interior spacetime reproduces the Newtonian potential of a fluid sphere with constant density.
The Shiromizu et al. \cite{SMS} covariant decomposition formalism is used to find out the brane properties rooted from the 5-dimensional Witten bubble spacetime. The non-local tensor $E_{ab}$ generated by the 5-dimensional Weyl tensor gives rise at an anisotropic energy-momentum tensor on the brane with negative energy density and $p = ρ/3$ as equation of state. The tidal acceleration is towards the brane and that is in accordance with the negative energy density on the brane. The anisotropic fluid has vanishing "bulk" viscosity but the shear viscosity coefficient is $r$- and $t$- dependent. T…
We study the dynamics of a 2+1 dimensional relativistic viscous conformal fluid in Minkowski spacetime. Such fluid solutions arise as duals, under the "gravity/fluid correspondence", to 3+1 dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AAdS) black brane solutions to the Einstein equation. We examine stability properties of shear flows, which correspond to hydrodynamic quasinormal modes of the black brane. We find that, for sufficiently high Reynolds number, the solution undergoes an inverse turbulent cascade to long wavelength modes. We then map this fluid solution, via the gravity/fluid duality,…
Sound waves on a fluid stream, in a de Laval nozzle, are shown to correspond to quasinormal modes emitted by black holes that are physical solutions in a quadratic curvature gravity with cosmological constant. Sound waves patterns in transsonic regimes at a laboratory are employed here to provide experimental data regarding generalized theories of gravity, comprised by the exact de Sitter-like solution and a perturbative solution around the Schwarzschild-de Sitter standard solution. Using the classical tests of General Relativity to bound free parameters in these solutions, acoustic perturbati…

We study exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations for the interior gravitational field of static spherically symmetric charged compact spheres. The spheres consist of an anisotropic fluid with a charge distribution that gives rise to a static radial electric field. The density of the fluid has the form $ρ(r) = ρ_o + αr^2$ (here $ρ_o$ and $α$ are constants) and the total charge $q(r)$ within a sphere of radius $r$ has the form $q = βr^3$ (with $β$ a constant). We evaluate the critical values of $M/R$ for these spheres as a function of $Q/R$ and compare these values with those given by …

A certain identification of points in a planar Schwarzschild-anti de Sitter (AdS) black hole generates a four-dimensional static black string. In turn, a rotating black string can be obtained from a static one by means of an `illegitimate coordinate transformation', a local boost in the compact direction. On the basis of the gauge/gravity duality, these black strings are dual to rotating thermal states of a strongly interacting conformal field theory (CFT) that lives on a cylinder. In this work, we obtain the complete quasinormal mode (QNM) spectrum of the gravitational perturbations of rotati…
Starting with any stationary axisymmetric vacuum metric, we build anisotropic fluids. With the help of the Ernst method, the basic equations are derived together with the expression for the energy-momentum tensor and with the equation of state compatible with the field equations. The method is presented by using different coordinate systems: the cylindrical coordinates $ρ, z$ and the oblate spheroidal ones. A class of interior solutions matching with stationary axisymmetric asymptotically flat vacuum solutions is found in oblate spheroidal coordinates. The solutions presented satisfy the three…
In this work we consider black holes surrounded by anisotropic fluids in four dimensions. We first study the causal structure of these solutions showing some similarities and differences with Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter black holes. In addition, we consider scalar perturbations on this background geometry and compute the corresponding quasinormal modes. Moreover, we discuss the late-time behavior of the perturbations finding an interesting new feature, i.e., the presence of a subdominant power-law tail term. Likewise, we compute the Bekenstein entropy bound and the first semiclassical correct…
The special conformal transformation (composed by inversion - translation - inversion) is used to generate a time dependent conformally flat spacetime. In order to be an exact solution of Einstein's equations, we need as a source a stress tensor corresponding to an anisotropic fluid with negative regular energy density and positive pressures. For the static approximation, the generators of the infinitesimal transformation resemble those recently obtained by Majhi and Padmanabhan for the coordinate transformation leading to the "near horizon" Schwarzschild metric in Kruskal coordinates. The sta…
The correspondence between sound waves, in a de Laval propelling nozzle, and quasinormal modes emitted by brane-world black holes deformed by a 5D bulk Weyl fluid are here explored and scrutinised. The analysis of sound waves patterns in a de Laval nozzle at a laboratory, reciprocally, is here shown to provide relevant data about the 5D bulk Weyl fluid and its on-brane projection, comprised by the minimal geometrically deformed compact stellar distribution on the brane. Acoustic perturbations of the gas fluid flow in the de Laval nozzle are proved to coincide to the quasinormal modes of black …
We consider spherically symmetric spacetimes sourced by a fluid with pressure anisotropy in the radial direction. We use gauge-invariant perturbation theory to study the stability of this class of spacetimes under axial perturbations. We apply our results to three diverse examples. Two examples arise as endpoints of collapse of a ball of fluid --- one describes a well-behaved stellar interior and the other has a naked singularity. We prove the stability of the stellar interior both with respect to Dirichlet and quasinormal mode boundary conditions on the perturbation. Surprisingly, the naked s…

Analogue systems are a powerful instrument to investigate and understand in a controlled setting many general-relativistic effects. Here, we focus on superradiant-triggered instabilities and quasi-normal modes. We consider a compressible hydrodynamic vortex characterized by a polytropic equation of state, the {\it polytropic hydrodynamic vortex}, a purely circulating system with an ergoregion but no event horizon. We compute the quasinormal modes of this system numerically with different methods, finding excellent agreement between them. When the fluid velocity is larger than the speed of soun…
We show the first simple, systematic and direct approach to decoupling gravitational sources in general relativity. As a direct application, a robust and simple way to generate anisotropic solutions for self-gravitating systems from perfect fluid solutions is presented.

We study Born-Infeld gravity coupled to an anisotropic fluid in a static, spherically symmetric background. The free function characterizing the fluid is selected on the following grounds: i) recovery of the Reissner-Nordström solution of GR at large distances, ii) fulfillment of classical energy conditions and iii) inclusion of models of nonlinear electrodynamics as particular examples. Four branches of solutions are obtained, depending on the signs of two parameters on the gravity and matter sectors. On each branch, we discuss in detail the modifications on the innermost region of the corres…
A family of spherically symmetric solutions with horizon in the model with m-component anisotropic fluid is presented. The metrics are defined on a manifold that contains a product of n-1 Ricci-flat "internal" spaces. The equation of state for any s-th component is defined by a vector U^s belonging to R^{n + 1}. The solutions are governed by moduli functions H_s obeying non-linear differential equations with certain boundary conditions imposed. A simulation of black brane solutions in the model with antisymmetric forms is considered. An example of solution imitating M_2-M_5 configuration (in D…
We investigate anisotropic fluid cosmology in a situation where the spacetime metric back-reacts in a local, time-dependent way to the presence of inhomogeneities. We derive exact solutions to the Einstein field equations describing Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) large scale cosmological evolution in the presence of local inhomogeneities and time-dependent back reaction. We use our derivation to tackle the cosmological constant problem. A cosmological constant emerges by averaging the back reaction term on spatial scales of the order of $100 \ \text{Mpc}$, at which our universe beg…
We study the behaviour of Bianchi class A universes containing an ultra-stiff isotropic ghost field and a fluid with anisotropic pressures which is also ultra-stiff on the average. This allows us to investigate whether cyclic universe scenarios, like the ekpyrotic model, do indeed lead to isotropisation on approach to a singularity (or bounce) in the presence of dominant ultra-stiff pressure anisotropies. We specialise to consider the closed Bianchi type IX universe and show that when the anisotropic pressures are stiffer on average than any isotropic ultra-stiff fluid then, if they dominate o…

We use anisotropic fluid cosmology to describe the present, dark energy-dominated, universe. Similarly to what has been proposed for galactic dynamics, the anisotropic fluid gives an effective description of baryonic matter, dark energy and their possible interaction, without assuming the presence of dark matter. The resulting anisotropic fluid spacetime naturally generates inhomogeneities at small scales, triggered by an anisotropic stress, and could therefore be responsible for structure formation at these scales. Solving the cosmological equations, we show that the dynamics of the scale fac…
We apply the 1+1+2 covariant semi-tetrad approach to describe a general static and spherically symmetric relativistic stellar object which contains two fluids with anisotropic pressure. The corresponding Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations are then obtained in covariant form for the anisotropic case. These equations are used to obtain new exact solutions using direct resolution and reconstruction techniques. Finally, we show that three of the generating theorems known for the single fluid case can also be used to obtain two-fluid solutions from single fluid ones.
In this paper we have considered an anisotropic space-time model of the Universe in presence of Brans-Dicke (BD) scalar field $ϕ$, causal viscous fluid and barotropic fluid. We have shown that irrespective of fluid the causality theory provides late time acceleration of the Universe. If the deceleration occurs in radial direction and acceleration occurs in transverse direction then the anisotropic Universe will accelerate for a particular condition of the power law representation of the scale factors.
In this paper, we study the quasinormal modes of the massless Dirac field for charged black holes in Rastall gravity. The spherically symmetric black hole solutions in question are characterized by the presence of a power-Maxwell field, surrounded by the quintessence fluid. The calculations are carried out by employing the WKB approximations up to the thirteenth order, as well as the matrix method. The temporal evolution of the quasinormal modes is investigated by using the finite difference method. Through numerical simulations, the properties of the quasinormal frequencies are analyzed, incl…
We present a solution generating technique for anisotropic fluids which preserves specific Killing symmetries. Anisotropic matter distributions that can be used with the one parameter Ehlers-Geroch transform are discussed. Example spacetimes that support the appropriate anisotropic stress-energy are found and the transformation applied. The 3+1 black string solution is one of the spacetimes with the appropriate matter distribution. Use of the transform with a black string seed is discussed.
The fluid model for the dark sector of the universe (darkon fluid) introduced previously in \cite{PRD} is reformulated as a modified model involving only variables from physical phase space. The Lagrangian of the model does not possess a free particle limit and hence the particles it describes, darkons, exist only as a self-gravitating fluid. This darkon fluid presents a dynamical realisation of the zero-mass Galilean algebra extended by anisotropic dilational symmetry with dynamical exponent $z=5/3$. The model possesses cosmologically relevant solutions which are identical to those of \cite{P…
