We prove that a semiring isomorphism between the rational function semifields of two tropical curves induces an expansive map between those tropical curves. This semiring isomorphism and the expansive map respect zeros and poles of rational functions with their degrees. As a corollary, we show that the automorphism group of a tropical curve is isomorphic to the $\boldsymbol{T}$-algebra automorphism group of its rational function semifield, where $\boldsymbol{T} := (\boldsymbol{R} \cup \{ -\infty \}, \operatorname{max}, +)$ is the tropical semifield. Finally, we describe all semiring automorphisms of rational function semifields of all tropical curves.
We prove that the rational function semifield of a tropical curve is finitely generated as a semifield over the tropical semifield $\boldsymbol{T} := ( \boldsymbol{R} \cup \{ - \infty \}, \operatorname{max}, +)$ by giving a specific finite generating set. Also, we show that for a finite harmonic morphism between tropical curves $φ: \varGamma \to \varGamma^{\prime}$, the rational function semifield of $\varGamma$ is finitely generated as a $φ^{\ast}(\operatorname{Rat}(\varGamma^{\prime}))$-algebra, where $φ^{\ast}(\operatorname{Rat}(\varGamma^{\prime}))$ stands for the pull-back of the rational…
In this paper, we give some categorical description of the general spectrum functor, defining it as an adjoint of a global section functor. The general spectrum functor includes that of $F_1$ and of semirings.
For a semifield extension $T /S$, an action of a finite group $G$ on $T$ is Galois if $(1)$ the $G$-invariant subsemifield of $T$ is $S$ and $(2)$ subgroups of $G$ whose invariant semifields coincide are equal. We show that for a finite harmonic morphism between tropical curves $φ: \varGamma \to \varGamma^{\prime}$ and an isometric action of a finite group $G$ on $\varGamma$, $φ$ is $G$-Galois if and only if the natural action of $G$ on the rational function semifield $\operatorname{Rat}(\varGamma)$ of $\varGamma$ induced by the action of $G$ on $\varGamma$ is Galois for the semifield extensio…
We first develop the local theory of functions on $\mathbb R^n$ defined by tropical Laurent polynomials. We study the structure of the semiring of functions, where two functions are identified when they coincide on a neighborhood of a fixed point. We see that this semiring is closely related to the semiring of functions defined by Boolean Laurent polynomials. Then we develop the local theory of functions on tropical curves. We construct a contravariant functor from the category of 1-dimensional tropical fans to the category of certain homomorphisms of semirings. As an application, we discuss a…
We develop notions of valuations on a semiring, with a view toward extending the classical theory of abstract nonsingular curves and discrete valuation rings to this general algebraic setting; the novelty of our approach lies in the implementation of hyperrings to yield a new definition (\emph{hyperfield valuation}). In particular, we classify valuations on the semifield $\mathbb{Q}_{max}$ (the max-plus semifield of rational numbers) and also valuations on the `function field' $\mathbb{Q}_{max}(T)$ (the semifield of rational functions over $\mathbb{Q}_{max}$) which are trivial on $\mathbb{Q}_{…
Much like in the theory of algebraic geometry, we develop a correspondence between certain types of algebraic and geometric objects. The basic algebraic environment we work in is the a semifield of fractions H(x1,...,xn) of the polynomial semidomain H[x1,...,xn], where H is taken to be an idempotent semifield, while for the geometric environment we have the space H^n. We show that taking H to be idempotent makes both H(x1,...,xn) and Hn idempotent which turn out to satisfy many desired properties that we utilize for our construction. The fundamental algebraic and geometric objects having inter…
This paper introduces a new structure of commutative semiring, generalizing the tropical semiring, and having an arithmetic that modifies the standard tropical operations, i.e. summation and maximum. Although our framework is combinatorial, notions of regularity and invertibility arise naturally for matrices over this semiring; we show that a tropical matrix is invertible if and only if it is regular.
Recently we propose a class of infinite-dimensional integral representations of classical gl(n+1)-Whittaker functions and local Archimedean local L-factors using two-dimensional topological field theory framework. The local Archimedean Langlands duality was identified in this setting with the mirror symmetry of the underlying topological field theories. In this note we introduce elementary analogs of the Whittaker functions and the Archimedean L-factors given by U(n+1)-equivariant symplectic volumes of appropriate Kahler U(n+1)-manifolds. We demonstrate that the functions thus defined have a d…
In this paper we present two intrinsic algebraic definitions of tropical variety motivated by the classical Zariski correspondence, one utilizing the algebraic structure of the coordinate semiring of an affine supertropical algebraic set, and the second based on the layered structure. We tie them to tropical geometry, especially in connection with the dimension of an affine variety.
We state the fundamental theorem of projective geometry for semimodules over semirings, which is facilitated by recent work in the study of bases in semimodules defined over semirings. In the process we explore in detail the linear algebra setup over semirings. We also provide more explicit results to understand the implications of our main theorem on maps between tropical lines in the tropical plane. Along with this we also look at geometrical connections to the rich theory of tropical geometry
We introduce a scheme-theoretic enrichment of the principal objects of tropical geometry. Using a category of semiring schemes, we construct tropical hypersurfaces as schemes over idempotent semirings such as $\mathbb{T} = (\mathbb{R}\cup \{-\infty\}, \mathrm{max}, +)$ by realizing them as solution sets to explicit systems of tropical equations that are uniquely determined by idempotent module theory. We then define a tropicalization functor that sends closed subschemes of a toric variety over a ring R with non-archimedean valuation to closed subschemes of the corresponding tropical toric vari…
The purpose of this paper is to establish analogues of the classical Lefschetz Section Theorem for smooth tropical varieties. More precisely, we prove tropical analogues of the section theorems of Lefschetz, Andreotti-Frankel, Bott-Milnor-Thom, Hamm-Lê and Kodaira-Spencer, and the vanishing theorems of Andreotti-Frankel and Akizuki-Kodaira-Nakano. We start the paper by resolving a conjecture of Mikhalkin and Ziegler (2008) concerning the homotopy types of certain filtrations of geometric lattices, generalizing several known properties of full geometric lattices. This translates to a crucial in…
This paper introduces the foundations of the polynomial algebra and basic structures for algebraic geometry over the extended tropical semiring. Our development, which includes the tropical version for the fundamental theorem of algebra, leads to the reduced polynomial semiring -- a structure that provides a basis for developing a tropical analogue to the classical theory of commutative algebra. The use of the new notion of tropical algebraic com-sets, built upon the complements of tropical algebraic sets, eventually yields the tropical algebraic Nullstellensatz.
I introduce the concept of integral closure for elements and ideals in idempotent semirings, and establish how it corresponds to its namesake in commutative algebra. In the case of free semirings, integral closure can be understood in terms of a certain monoid of convex bodies under Minkowski sum. I argue that integral closure therefore accounts for the difference between `tropical functions' and real functions.
We investigate the semi-ringed topos obtained by extension of scalars from the arithmetic site of our previous work, by replacing the smallest Boolean semifield by the tropical semifield of real numbers with the max-plus operations. The obtained site is the semi-direct product of the Euclidean half-line by the action of the monoid of positive integers by multiplication. Its points are the same as the points of the arithmetic site over the tropical semifield of real numbers, and coincide with the quotient of the adele class space of Q by the action of the maximal compact subgroup of the idele c…
We introduce the semiring of values $Γ$ with respect to the tropical operations associated to an algebroid curve. As a set, $Γ$ determines and is determined by the well known semigroup of values $S$ and we prove that $Γ$ is always finitely generated in contrast to $S$. In particular, for a plane curve, we present a straightforward way to obtain $Γ$ in terms of the semiring of each branch of the curve and the mutual intersection multiplicity of its branches. In the analytical case, this allows us to connect directly the results of Zariski and Waldi that characterize the topological type of the …
A module $M$ over the tropical semifield $T$ is analogous to a module over a field. We assume that $M$ is straight reflexive, and define the dimension of $M$ to the number of elements of a basis. We study the dimension of a straight reflexive submodule $N \subset M$. Also we find an enough condition to the reflexivity. This result has an application to polytopes in a tropical projective space, and also to a Riemann-Roch theorem for tropical curves.
A correspondence exists between affine tropical varieties and algebraic objects, following the classical Zariski correspondence between irreducible affine varieties and the prime spectrum of the coordinate algebra in affine algebraic geometry. Although in this context the natural analog of the polynomial ring over a field is the polynomial semiring over a semifield (without a zero element), one obtains homomorphic images of coordinate algebras via congruences rather than ideals, which complicates the algebraic theory considerably. In this paper, we pass to the semifield $F(λ_1, \dots, λ_n)$ of…
From any monoid scheme $X$ (also known as an $\mathbb{F}_1$-scheme) one can pass to a semiring scheme (a generalization of a tropical scheme) $X_S$ by scalar extension to an idempotent semifield $S$. We prove that for a given irreducible monoid scheme $X$ (satisfying some mild conditions) and an idempotent semifield $S$, the Picard group $Pic(X)$ of $X$ is stable under scalar extension to $S$ (and in fact to any field $K$). In other words, we show that the groups $Pic(X)$ and $Pic(X_S)$ (and $Pic(X_K)$) are isomorphic. In particular, if $X_\mathbb{C}$ is a toric variety, then $Pic(X)$ is the s…
The concepts of tropical-semiring and tropical hypersurface, are extended for an arbitrary ordered group. Then, we define the tropicalization of a polynomial with coefficients in a Krull-valued field. After a close study of the properties of the operator "tropicalization" we conclude with an extension of Kapranov's theorem to algebraically closed fields together with a valuation over an ordered group.
Generalizing supertropical algebras, we present a "layered" structure, "sorted" by a semiring which permits varying ghost layers, and indicate how it is more amenable than the "standard" supertropical construction in factorizations of polynomials, description of varieties, properties of the resultant, and for mathematical analysis and calculus, in particular with respect to multiple roots of polynomials. Explicit examples and comparisons are given for various sorting semirings such as the natural numbers and the positive rational numbers, and we see how this theory relates to some recent devel…
Tropical algebraic geometry is the geometry of the tropical semiring $(\mathbb{R},\min,+)$. Its objects are polyhedral cell complexes which behave like complex algebraic varieties. We give an introduction to this theory, with an emphasis on plane curves and linear spaces. New results include a complete description of the families of quadrics through four points in the tropical projective plane and a counterexample to the incidence version of Pappus' Theorem.
We construct the scaling site S by implementing the extension of scalars on the arithmetic site, from the smallest Boolean semifield to the tropical semifield of positive real numbers. The obtained semiringed topos is the Grothendieck topos semi-direct product of the Euclidean half-line and the monoid of positive integers acting by multiplication, endowed with the structure sheaf of piecewise affine, convex functions with integral slopes. We show that the points of this topos coincide with the adele class space of the rationals and that this latter space inherits the geometric structure of a t…
