We address the question of existence of absolutely simple abelian varieties of dimension 2 with everywhere good reduction over quadratic fields. The emphasis will be given to the construction of pairs $(K,C)$, where $K$ is a quadratic number field and $C$ is a genus $2$ curve with everywhere good reduction over $K$. We provide the first infinite sequence of pairs $(K,C)$ where $K$ is a real (complex) quadratic field and $C$ has everywhere good reduction over $K$. Moreover, we show that the Jacobian of $C$ is an absolutely simple abelian variety.
We consider the proportion of genus one curves over $\mathbb{Q}$ of the form $z^2=f(x,y)$ where $f(x,y)\in\mathbb{Z}[x,y]$ is a binary quartic form (or more generally of the form $z^2+h(x,y)z=f(x,y)$ where also $h(x,y)\in\mathbb{Z}[x,y]$ is a binary quadratic form) that have points everywhere locally. We show that the proportion of these curves that are locally soluble, computed as a product of local densities, is approximately 75.96%. We prove that the local density at a prime $p$ is given by a fixed degree-$9$ rational function of $p$ for all odd $p$ (and for the generalised equation, the sa…
In this paper, near-miss identities for the number of representations of some integral ternary quadratic forms with congruence conditions are found and proven. The genus and spinor genus of the corresponding lattice cosets are then classified. Finally, a complete genus and spinor genus classification for all conductor 2 lattice cosets of 2-adically unimodular lattices is given.
We compute an equation for a modular abelian surface $A$ that has everywhere good reduction over the quadratic field $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{61})$ and that does not admit a principal polarization over $K$.
Clemm and Trebat-Leder (2014) proved that the number of quadratic number fields with absolute discriminant bounded by $x$ over which there exist elliptic curves with good reduction everywhere and rational $j$-invariant is $\gg x\log^{-1/2}(x)$. In this paper, we assume the $abc$-conjecture to show the sharp asymptotic $\sim cx\log^{-1/2}(x)$ for this number, obtaining formulae for $c$ in both the real and imaginary cases. Our method has three ingredients: (1) We make progress towards a conjecture of Granville: Given a fixed elliptic curve $E/\mathbb{Q}$ with short Weierstrass equation $y^2 = f…
We use the method of quadratic Chabauty on the quotients $X_0^+(N)$ of modular curves $X_0(N)$ by their Fricke involutions to provably compute all the rational points of these curves for prime levels $N$ of genus four, five, and six. We find that the only such curves with exceptional rational points are of levels $137$ and $311$. In particular there are no exceptional rational points on those curves of genus five and six. More precisely, we determine the rational points on the curves $X_0^+(N)$ for $N=137,173,199,251,311,157,181,227,263,163,197,211,223,269,271,359$.
Motivated by the theory of Diophantine $m$-tuples, we study rational points on quadratic twists $H^d:d y^2=(x^2+6x-18)(-x^2+2x+2)$, where $|d|$ is a prime. If we denote by $S(X)=\{ d \in \mathbb{Z}: H^d(\mathbb{Q})\ne \emptyset, |d| \textrm{ is a prime}\textrm{ and } |d| < X\},$ then, by assuming some standard conjectures about the ranks of elliptic curves in the family of quadratic twists, we prove that as $X \rightarrow \infty$ $$\frac{43}{256}+o(1)\le \frac{\#S(X)}{2π(X)}\le \frac{46}{256}+o(1).$$
For a quadratic extension $K$ of ${\mathbb Q}$, we consider orders $O$ in $K$ that are not necessarily maximal and the ideal class group $Cl^+(O)$ in the narrow sense of proper ideals of $O$. Characters of $Cl^+(O)$ of order at most two are traditionally called genus characters. Explicit description of such characters is known classically, but explicit $L$-functions associated to those characters are only recently obtained partially by Chinta and Offen and completely by Kaneko and Mizuno. As remarked in the latter paper, the present author also obtained the formula of such $L$-functions indepe…
Examples of CM curves of genus two defined over the reflex field
在“Proving that a genus 2 curve has complex multiplication“中,van Wamelen列出了在$\mathbf{Q}$上具有复乘(CM)的亏格2的19条曲线。
Stark-Heegner points, also known as Darmon points, were introduced by H. Darmon as certain local points on rational elliptic curves, conjecturally defined over abelian extensions of real quadratic fields. The rationality conjecture for these points is only known in the unramified case, namely, when these points are specializations of global points defined over the strict Hilbert class field $H^+_F$ of the real quadratic field $F$ and twisted by (unramified) quadratic characters of $Gal(H_c^+/F)$. We extend these results to the situation of ramified quadratic characters; more precisely, we show…
Building on work of Balakrishnan, Dogra, and of the first author, we provide some improvements to the explicit quadratic Chabauty method to compute rational points on genus $2$ bielliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$, whose Jacobians have Mordell-Weil rank equal to $2$. We complement this with a precision analysis to guarantee correct outputs. Together with the Mordell-Weil sieve, this bielliptic quadratic Chabauty method is then the main tool that we use to compute the rational points on the $411$ locally solvable curves from the LMFDB which satisfy the aforementioned conditions.
Bruin and Najman, Ozman and Siksek, and Box described all the quadratic points on the modular curves of genus $2\leq g(X_0(n)) \leq 5$. Since all the hyperelliptic curves $X_0(n)$ are of genus $\leq 5$ and as a curve can have infinitely many quadratic points only if it is either of genus $\leq 1$, hyperelliptic or bielliptic, the question of describing the quadratic points on the bielliptic modular curves $X_0(n)$ naturally arises; this question has recently also been posed by Mazur. We answer Mazur's question completely and describe the quadratic points on all the bielliptic modular curves $X…
We prove that a positive proportion of hypersurfaces in products of projective spaces over $\mathbb{Q}$ are everywhere locally soluble, for almost all multidegrees and dimensions, as a generalization of a theorem of Poonen and Voloch. We also study the specific case of genus $1$ curves in $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$ defined over $\mathbb{Q}$, represented as bidegree $(2,2)$-forms, and show that the proportion of everywhere locally soluble such curves is approximately $87.4\%$. The proportion of these curves in $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$ soluble over $\mathbb{Q}_p$ is a rational …
In $1801$, Gauss found an explicit description, in the language of binary quadratic forms, for the $2$-torsion of the narrow class group and dual narrow class group of a quadratic number field. This is now known as Gauss's genus theory. In this paper we extend Gauss's work to the setting of multi-quadratic number fields. To this end, we introduce and parametrize the categories of expansion groups and expansion Lie algebras, giving an explicit description for the universal objects of these categories. This description is inspired by the ideas of Smith \cite{smith2} in his recent breakthrough on…
Continuing the line of thought of an earlier work, we provide the first infinite family of quadratic number fields with everywhere unramified Galois extensions of Galois group $SL_2(5)$, the (unique) smallest nonsolvable group for which this problem was previously open. Our approach also improves upon previous work by yielding the first infinite family of real-quadratic fields possessing an unramified Galois extension whose Galois group is perfect and not generated by involutions. Our result also amounts to a new existence result on quintic number fields with squarefree discriminant and additi…
In this paper, we establish the expected order of magnitude of the $k$th-moment of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions associated to hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$ as well as of prime moduli over a fixed finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ for all real $k \geq 0$.
The moments of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions over function fields have recently attracted much attention with the work of Andrade and Keating. In this article, we establish lower bounds for the mean values of the product of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions associated with hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$ over a fixed finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ in the large genus limit. By using the idea of A. Florea \cite{FL3}, we also obtain their upper bounds. As a consequence, we find upper bounds of its derivatives. These lower and upper bounds give the correlation of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functio…
