The Peirce decomposition of a Jordan algebra with respect to an idempotent is well known. This decomposition was taken one step further and generalized recently by Hall, Rehren and Shpectorov, withtheir introduction of {\it axial algebras}, and in particular {\it primitive axial algebras of Jordan type} (PJs for short). It turns out that these notions are closely related to $3$-transposition groups and vertex operator algebras. De Medts, Peacock, Shpectorov, and M. Van Couwenberghe generalized axial algebrasto {\it decomposition algebras} which, in particular, are not necessarily commutative. This paper deals with decomposition algebras which are non-commutative versions of PJs.
A complete classifications of two-dimensional general, commutative, commutative Jordan, division and evolution real algebras are given. In the case of evolution algebras their groups of automorphisms and derivation algebras are described as well.
We give a computional method to construct and classify nilpotent Jordan algebras over any arbitrary fields by the second cohomolgy of nilpotent Jordan algebras of low dimension "analogue of Skjelbred-Sund method", we see that every nilpotent Jordan algebras can be constructed by the second cohomolgy of nilpotent Jordan algebras of low dimension. We use this method to classify nilpotent Jordan algebras up to dimension three over any field and nilpotent Jordan algebras of dimension four over an algebraic closed field of characteristic not 2 and over the real field R. Also commutative nilpotent a…
In the present paper we prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the matrix ring over a commutative ring is an inner derivation and every derivation on an associative ring has an extension to a derivation on the matrix ring over this associative ring. We also develop a Jordan analog of the above method and prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the Jordan matrix ring over a commutative ring is a derivation.
We study finite-dimensional commutative algebras, which satisfy the Jacobi identity. Such algebras are Jordan algebras. We describe some of their properties and give a classification in dimensions $n<7$ over algebraically closed fields of characteristic not $2$ or $3$.
Let C be a commutative ring with unity. In this article, we show that every Jordan derivation over an upper triangular matrix algebra T_n(C) is an inner derivation. Further, we extend the result for Jordan derivation on full matrix algebra M_n(C).
In this survey paper we give an overview over constructions of geometries associated to Jordan structures (algebras, triple systems and pairs), featuring analogs of these constructions with the Lie functor on the one hand and with the approach of non-commutative geometry on the other hand.
Axial algebras of Jordan type $η$ are commutative algebras generated by idempotents whose adjoint operators have the minimal polynomial dividing $(x-1)x(x-η)$, where $η\not\in\{0,1\}$ is fixed, with restrictive multiplication rules. These properties generalize the Pierce decompositions for idempotents in Jordan algebras, where $\frac{1}{2}$ is replaced with $η$. In particular, Jordan algebras generated by idempotents are axial algebras of Jordan type $\frac{1}{2}$. If $η\neq\frac{1}{2}$ then it is known that axial algebras of Jordan type $η$ are factors of the so-called Matsuo algebras corresp…
We introduce some basic concepts for Jacobi-Jordan algebras such as: representations, crossed products or Frobenius/metabelian/co-flag objects. A new family of solutions for the quantum Yang-Baxter equation is constructed arising from any $3$-step nilpotent Jacobi-Jordan algebra. Crossed products are used to construct the classifying object for the extension problem in its global form. For a given Jacobi-Jordan algebra $A$ and a given vector space $V$ of dimension $\mathfrak{c}$, a global non-abelian cohomological object ${\mathbb G} {\mathbb H}^{2} \, (A, \, V)$ is constructed: it classifies,…
In this article, we show that every Jordan {g, h}-derivation over T_n(C) is a {g, h}-derivation under an assumption, where C is a commutative ring with unity 1 not equal to 0. We give an example of a Jordan {g, h}-derivation over T_n(C) which is not a {g, h}-derivation. Also, we study Jordan {g, h}-derivation over M_n(C).
The classification, up to isomorphism, of two-dimensional (not necessarily commutative) Jordan algebras over algebraically closed fields and $\mathbb{R}$ is presented in terms of their matrices of structure constants.
In this work we are interested in the general problem of the determination of the normed division algebras. Our fundamental results are obtained in the particular subclass of those 8-dimensional quadratic flexible real division algebras. We give a new process which generalizes that of Cayley-Dickson and which allows the obtaining of a new family of eight-dimensional quadratic flexible real division algebras. We give examples of 8-dimensional quadratic flexible real division algebras which cannot be obtained by this first process of duplication and by means of a second process, which consists i…
We describe all degenerations of the variety $\mathfrak{Jord}_3$ of Jordan algebras of dimension three over $\mathbb{C}.$ In particular, we describe all irreducible components in $\mathfrak{Jord}_3.$ For every $n$ we define an $n$-dimensional rigid ''marginal'' Jordan algebra of level one. Also, we discuss ''marginal'' algebras in associative, alternative, left alternative, non-commutative Jordan, Leibniz, and anticommutative cases.
Let $X$ be a partially ordered set, $R$ a commutative $2$-torsionfree unital ring and $FI(X,R)$ the finitary incidence algebra of $X$ over $R$. In this note we prove that each $R$-linear Jordan isomorphism of $FI(X,R)$ onto an $R$-algebra $A$ is the near-sum of a homomorphism and an anti-homomorphism.
Let $A$ be a commutative, non-associative algebra over a field $\mathbb{F}$ of characteristic $\ne 2$. A half-axis in $A$ is an idempotent $e\in A$ such that $e$ satisfies the Peirce multiplication rules in a Jordan algebra, and, in addition, the $1$-eigenspace of ${\rm ad}_e$ (multiplication by $e$) is one dimensional. In this paper we consider the identities $(*)$ $x^2x^2=x^4$ and $x^3x^2=xx^4.$ We show that if identities $(*)$ hold strictly in $A,$ then one gets (very) interesting identities between elements in the eigenspaces of ${\rm ad}_e$ (note that if $|\mathbb{F}|>3$ and the identitie…
Decomposition algebras and axial decomposition algebras are classes of commutative nonassociative algebras which are generalizations of axial algebras. The classes decomposition algebras, axial decomposition al;gebras and non-primitive axial algebras also have univesal algebras. Furthermore, by using the existence of a universal algebra, 2-generated non-primitive axial algebras of Jordan type is classified.
Let $\mathcal{R}$ be a commutative ring with identity, $I(X,\mathcal{R})$ be the incidence algebra of a locally finite pre-ordered set $X$. In this note, we characterise the derivations of $I(X,\mathcal{R})$ and prove that every Jordan derivation of $I(X,\mathcal{R})$ is a derivation provided that $\mathcal{R}$ is $2$-torsion free.
This paper deals with the variety of commutative algebras satisfying one of the four families of degree four identities found by Carini, Hentzel and Piacentini-Cattaneo in 1988. We give a characterization of representations and irreducible modules on these algebras. Our results require that the characteristic of the ground field be different from 2,3.
An algebraic classification of complex $5$-dimensional nilpotent commutative $\mathfrak{CD}$-algebras is given. This classification is based on an algebraic classification of complex $5$-dimensional nilpotent Jordan algebras.
Based on the relation between the notions of Lie triple systems and Jordan algebras, we introduce the $n$-ary Jordan algebras,an $n$-ary generalization of Jordan algebras obtained via the generalization of the following property $\left[ R_{x},R_{y}\right] \in Der\left( \mathcal{A}\right)$, where $\mathcal{A}$ is an $n$-ary algebra. Next, we study a ternary example of these algebras. Finally, based on the construction of a family of ternary algebras defined by means of the Cayley-Dickson algebras, we present an example of a ternary $D_{x,y}$-derivation algebra ($n$-ary $D_{x,y}$-derivation alge…
The notion of axial algebra is closely related to $3$-transposition groups, the Monster group and vertex operator algebras. In this work we continue our previous works and compete the proof that all algebras generated by a set of primitive axes not necessarily of the same type (see the definition in the body of the paper), are primitive axial algebras of Jordan type.
We introduce the class of split Malcev-Poisson-Jordan algebras as the natural extension of the one of split Malcev Poisson algebras, and therefore split (non-commutative) Poisson algebras. We show that a split Malcev-Poisson-Jordan algebra $P$ can be written as a direct sum $P = \oplus_{j \in J}I_j$ with any $I_j$ a non-zero ideal of $P$ in such a way that satisfies $[I_{j_1},I_{j_2}] = I_{j_1} \circ I_{j_2} = 0$ for $j_1 \neq j_2.$ Under certain conditions, it is shown that the above decomposition of $P$ is by means of the family of its simple ideals.
If $V$ is a finite-dimensional unital commutative (maybe nonassociative) algebra carrying an associative positive definite bilinear form then there exist a nonzero idempotent $c\ne e$ ($e$ being the algebra unit) of the shortest possible length $|c|^2$. In particular, $|c|^2\le \frac12|e|^2$. We prove that the equality holds exactly when $V$ is a Jordan algebra of Clifford type.
We take an algorithmic and computational approach to a basic problem in abstract algebra: determining the correct generalization to dialgebras of a given variety of nonassociative algebras. We give a simplified statement of the KP algorithm introduced by Kolesnikov and Pozhidaev for extending polynomial identities for algebras to corresponding identities for dialgebras. We apply the KP algorithm to the defining identities for Jordan triple systems to obtain a new variety of nonassociative triple systems, called Jordan triple disystems. We give a generalized statement of the BSO algorithm intro…
We extend the Zariski topology on simp A, the finite dimensional simple A-representations, to a non-commutative topology (in the sense of Fred Van Oystaeyen) on rep A, all finite dimensional A-representations, using Jordan-Holder filtrations. The non-commutativity of the topology is enforced by the order of the composition factors.
In this article, we develop a further adaptation of the method of Skjelbred-Sund to construct central extensions of axial algebras. We use our method to prove that all axial central extensions (with respect to a maximal set of axes) of complex simple finite-dimensional Jordan algebras are split and that all non-split axial central extensions of dimension $n\leq 4$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not $2$ are Jordan. Also, we give a classification of $2$-dimensional axial algebras and describe some important properties of these algebras.
Algebras with identity $(a\star b)\star (c\star d) -(a\star d)\star(c\star b)$ $=(a,b,c)\star d-(a,d,c)\star b$ are studied. Novikov algebras under Jordan multiplication and Leibniz dual algebras satisfy this identity. If algebra with such identity has unit, then it is associative and commutative.
We consider the super Jordan plane, a braided Hopf algebra introduced--to the best of our knowledge--in works of N. Andruskiewitsch, I. Angiono, I. Heckenberger, and its restricted version in odd characteristic introduced by the same authors. We show that their Drinfeld doubles give rise naturally to Hopf superalgebras justifying a posteriori the adjective super given in their work. These Hopf superalgebras are extensions of super commutative ones by the enveloping, respectively restricted enveloping, algebra of $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$.
Axial algebras are a class of non-associative commutative algebras whose properties are defined in terms of a fusion law. When this fusion law is graded, the algebra has a naturally associated group of automorphisms and thus axial algebras are inherently related to group theory. Examples include most Jordan algebras and the Griess algebra for the Monster sporadic simple group. In this survey, we introduce axial algebras, discuss their structural properties and then concentrate on two specific classes: algebras of Jordan and Monster type, which are rich in examples related to simple groups.
We give the algebraic classification of alternative, left alternative, Jordan, bicommutative, left commutative, assosymmetric, Novikov and left symmetric central extensions of null-filiform associative algebras.
Nonassociative commutative algebras $A$ generated by idempotents $e$ whose adjoint operators ${\rm ad}_e\colon A \rightarrow A$, given by $x \mapsto xe$, are diagonalizable and have few eigenvalues are of recent interest. When certain fusion (multiplication) rules between the associated eigenspaces are imposed, the structure of these algebras remains rich yet rather rigid. For example vertex operator algebras give rise to such algebras. The connection between the Monster algebra and Monster group extends to many axial algebras which then have interesting groups of automorphisms. Axial algebras…
"Fusion rules" are laws of multiplication among eigenspaces of an idempotent. This terminology is relatively new and is closely related to axial algebras, introduced recently by Hall, Rehren and Shpectorov. Axial algebras, in turn, are closely related to $3$-transposition groups and Vertex operator algebras. In this paper we consider fusion rules for semisimple idempotents, following Albert in the power-associative case. We examine the notion of an axis in the non-commutative setting and show that the dimension $d$ of any algebra $A$ generated by a pair $a,b$ of (not necessarily Jordan) axes o…
In 1990 Kantor defined the conservative algebra $W(n)$ of all algebras (i.e. bilinear maps) on the $n$-dimensional vector space. If $n>1$, then the algebra $W(n)$ does not belong to any well-known class of algebras (such as associative, Lie, Jordan, or Leibniz algebras). We describe automorphisms, one-sided ideals, and idempotents of $W(2).$ Also similar problems are solved for the algebra $W_2$ of all commutative algebras on the 2-dimensional vector space and for the algebra $S_2$ of all commutative algebras with trace zero multiplication on the 2-dimensional vector space.
"Fusion rules" are laws of multiplication among eigenspaces of an idempotent. This terminology is relatively new and is closely related to primitive axial algebras, introduced recently by Hall, Rehren, and Shpectorov. Axial algebras, in turn, are closely related to $3$-transposition groups and vertex operator algebras. In earlier work we studied primitive axial algebras, not necessarily commutative, and showed that they all have Jordan type. In this paper, we show that all finitely generated primitive axial algebras are direct sums of specifically described flexible finite dimensional noncommu…
We investigate relations between the properties of an algebra and its varieties of finite-dimensional module structures, on the example of the Jordan plane $R=k<x,y>/ (xy-yx-y^2)$. Complete description of irreducible components of the representation variety $mod (R,n)$ obtained for any dimension $n$, it is shown that the variety is equidimensional. The influence of the property of the non-commutative Koszul (Golod-Shafarevich) complex to be a DG-algebra resolution of an algebra (NCCI), on the structure of representation spaces is studied. It is shown that the Jordan plane provides a new exampl…
An axial algebra over the field $\mathbb F$ is a commutative algebra generated by idempotents whose adjoint action has multiplicity-free minimal polynomial. For semisimple associative algebras this leads to sums of copies of $\mathbb F$. Here we consider the first nonassociative case, where adjoint minimal polynomials divide $(x-1)x(x-η)$ for fixed $0\neqη\neq 1$. Jordan algebras arise when $η=\frac{1}{2}$, but our motivating examples are certain Griess algebras of vertex operator algebras and the related Majorana algebras. We study a class of algebras, including these, for which axial automor…
Let $M_n(R)$ be the algebra of all $n\times n$ matrices over a unital commutative ring $R$ with 6 invertible. We say that $A\in M_n(R)$ is a Jordan product determined point if for every $R$-module $X$ and every symmetric $R$-bilinear map $\{\cdot, \cdot\}$ : $M_n(R)\times M_n(R)\to X$ the following two conditions are equivalent: (i) there exists a fixed element $w\in X$ such that $\{x,y\}=w$ whenever $x\circ y=A$, $x,y\in M_n(R)$; (ii) there exists an $R$-linear map $T:M_n(R)^2\to X$ such that $\{x,y\}=T(x\circ y)$ for all $x,y\in M_n(R)$. In this paper, we mainly prove that all the matrix uni…
In this paper we show that each non-zero ideal of a twisted generalized Weyl algebra (TGWA) $A$ intersects the centralizer of the distinguished subalgebra $R$ in $A$ non-trivially. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the centralizer of $R$ in $A$ to be commutative, and give examples of TGWAs associated to symmetric Cartan matrices satisfying this condition. By imposing a certain finiteness condition on $R$ (weaker than Noetherianity) we are able to make an Ore localization which turns out to be useful when investigating simplicity of the TGWA. Under this mild assumption we…
Axial algebras are a class of commutative non-associative algebras generated by idempotents, called axes, with adjoint action semi-simple and satisfying a prescribed fusion law. Axial algebras were introduced by Hall, Rehren and Shpectorov \cite{hrs,hrs1} as a broad generalisation of Majorana algebras of Ivanov, whose axioms were derived from the properties of the Griess algebra for the Monster sporadic simple group. The class of axial algebras of Monster type includes Majorana algebras for the Monster and many other sporadic simple groups, Jordan algebras for classical and some exceptional si…
In this paper we will explain an interesting phenomenon which occurs in general nonassociative algebras. More precisely, we establish that any finite-dimensional commutative nonassociative algebra over a field satisfying an identity always contains $\frac12$ in its Peirce spectrum. We also show that the corresponding $\frac12$-Peirce module satisfies the Jordan type fusion laws. The present approach is based on an explicit representation of the Peirce polynomial for an arbitrary algebra identity. To work with fusion rules, we develop the concept of the Peirce symbol and show that it can be exp…
A Majorana algebra is a commutative nonassociative real algebra generated by a finite set of idempotents, called Majorana axes, that satisfy some of the properties of the $2A$-axes of the Monster Griess algebra. The term was introduced by A. A. Ivanov in 2009 inspired by the work of S. Sakuma and M. Miyamoto. In the present paper, we revisit Mayer and Neutsch's theorem on associative subalgebras of the Griess algebra in the context of Majorana theory. We apply this result to determine all the maximal associative subalgebras of some low-dimensional Majorana algebras; namely, the Majorana algebr…
