Recently, Galindo et al. introduced the concept of asymmetric entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (AEAQECCs) from Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction. In general, it's difficult to determine the required number of maximally entangled states of an AEAQECC, which is associated with the dimension of the intersection of the two corresponding linear codes. Two linear codes are said to be a linear l-intersection pair if their intersection has dimension l. In this paper, all possible linear l-intersection pairs of MDS codes are given. As an application, we give a complete characterization of pure MDS AEAQECCs for all possible parameters.
The entanglement-assisted stabilizer formalism can transform arbitrary classical linear codes into entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs). In this work, we construct some new entanglement-assisted quantum MDS (EAQMDS) codes with length $n=\frac{q^2+1}5$ from cyclic codes. Compared with all the previously known parameters with the same length, all of them have flexible parameters and larger minimum distance.
In this paper, we produce two new classes of entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes (EAQMDS codes) with length $n|q^2-1$ and $n|q^2+1$ via cyclic codes over finite fields of odd characteristic. Among our constructions there are many EAQMDS codes with new parameters which have never been reported. And some of them have great larger minimum distance than known results.
Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting (EAQEC) codes make use of preexisting entanglement between the sender and receiver to boost the rate of transmission. It is possible to construct an EAQEC code from any classical linear code, unlike standard quantum error-correcting codes, which can only be constructed from dual-containing codes. However, the number $c$ of pre-shared maximally entangled states is usually calculated by computer search. In this paper, we first give a new formula for calculating the number $c$ of pre-shared maximally entangled states. Then, using this formula, we con…
Construction of good quantum codes via classical codes is an important task for quantum information and quantum computing. In this work, by virtue of a decomposition of the defining set of constacyclic codes we have constructed eight new classes of entanglement-assisted quantum maximum distance separable codes.
In this paper, we produce some new classes of entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes(EAQMDS codes for short) via generalized Reed-Solomon codes over finite fields of odd characteristic. Among our constructions, there are many EAQMDS codes with new lengths which have never been reported. Moreover, some of them have larger minimum distance than known results.
Error-correcting pairs were introduced in 1988 by R. Pellikaan, and were found independently by R. Kötter (1992), as a general algebraic method of decoding linear codes. These pairs exist for several classes of codes. However little or no study has been made for characterizing those codes. This article is an attempt to fill the vacuum left by the literature concerning this subject. Since every linear code is contained in an MDS code of the same minimum distance over some finite field extension we have focused our study on the class of MDS codes. Our main result states that an MDS code of minim…
Recently, entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) have been constructed by cyclic codes and negacyclic codes. In this paper, by analyzing the cyclotomic cosets in the defining set of constacyclic codes, we constructed three classes of new EAQECCs which satisfy the entanglement-assisted quantum Singleton bound. Besides, three classes of EAQECCs with maximal entanglement from constacyclic codes are constructed in the meanwhile.
The entanglement-assisted (EA) formalism allows arbitrary classical linear codes to transform into entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) by using pre-shared entanglement between the sender and the receiver. In this work, we propose a decomposition of the defining set of constacyclic codes. Using this method, we construct four classes of $q$-ary entanglement-assisted quantum MDS (EAQMDS) codes based on classical constacyclic MDS codes by exploiting less pre-shared maximally entangled states. We show that a class of $q$-ary EAQMDS have minimum distance upper limit greate…
Entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) can be derived from arbitrary classical linear codes. We show that a class of q-ary EAQMDS have minimum distance upper bound greater than q. Some of them have much lar…
The intersection ${\bf C}\bigcap {\bf C}^{\perp_H}$ of a linear code ${\bf C} \subset {\bf F}_{q^2}$ and its Hermitian dual ${\bf C}^{\perp_H}$ is called the Hermitian hull of this code. A linear code ${\bf C} \subset {\bf F}_{q^2}$ satisfying ${\bf C} \subset {\bf C}^{\perp_H}$ is called Hermitian self-orthogonal. Many Hermitian self-orthogonal codes were given for the construction of MDS quantum error correction codes (QECCs). In this paper we prove that for a nonnegative integer $h$ satisfying $0 \leq h \leq k$, a linear Hermitian self-orthogonal $[n, k]_{q^2}$ code is equivalent to a linea…
With entanglement-assisted (EA) formalism, arbitrary classical linear codes are allowed to transform into EAQECCs by using pre-shared entanglement between the sender and the receiver. In this paper, based on classical cyclic MDS codes by exploiting pre-shared maximally entangled states, we construct two families of $q$-ary entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes $[[\frac{q^{2}+1}{a},\frac{q^{2}+1}{a}-2(d-1)+c,d;c]]$, where q is a prime power in the form of $am+l$, and $a=(l^2+1)$ or $a=\frac{(l^2+1)}{5}$. We show that all of $q$-ary EAQMDS have minimum distance upper limit much larger than the…

Linear complementary dual (LCD) maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are constructed to given specifications. For given $n$ and $r<n$, with $n$ or $r$ (or both) odd, MDS LCD $(n,r)$ codes are constructed over finite fields whose characteristic does not divide $n$. Series of LCD MDS codes are constructed to required rate and required error-correcting capability. Given the field $GF(q)$ and $n/(q-1)$, LCD MDS codes of length $n$ and dimension $r$ are explicitly constructed over $GF(q)$ for all $r<n$ when $n$ is odd and for all odd $r<n$ when $n$ is even. For given dimension and given error-cor…
MDS array codes are widely used in storage systems to protect data against erasures. We address the \emph{rebuilding ratio} problem, namely, in the case of erasures, what is the fraction of the remaining information that needs to be accessed in order to rebuild \emph{exactly} the lost information? It is clear that when the number of erasures equals the maximum number of erasures that an MDS code can correct then the rebuilding ratio is 1 (access all the remaining information). However, the interesting and more practical case is when the number of erasures is smaller than the erasure correcting…
Quantum error correction is fundamentally important for quantum information processing and computation. Quantum error correction codes have been studied and constructed since the pioneering papers of Shor and Steane. Optimal (called MDS) $q$-qubit quantum codes attaining the quantum Singleton bound were constructed for very restricted lengths $n \leq q^2+1$. Entanglement-assisted quantum error correction (EAQEC) code was proposed to use the pre-shared maximally entangled state for the enhancing of error correction capability. Recently there have been a lot of constructions of MDS EAQEC codes a…
The hull of linear codes have promising utilization in coding theory and quantum coding theory. In this paper, we study the hull of generalized Reed-Solomon codes and extended generalized Reed-Solomon codes over finite fields with respect to the Euclidean inner product. Several infinite families of MDS codes with arbitrary dimensional hull are presented. As an application, using these MDS codes with arbitrary dimensional hull, we construct several new infinite families of entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes with flexible parameters.
Using the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction, pure $q$-ary asymmetric quantum error-correcting codes attaining the quantum Singleton bound are constructed. Such codes are called pure CSS asymmetric quantum maximum distance separable (AQMDS) codes. Assuming the validity of the classical MDS Conjecture, pure CSS AQMDS codes of all possible parameters are accounted for.
The Galois hull of a linear code is the intersection of itself and its Galois dual code, which has aroused the interest of researchers in these years. In this paper, we study Galois hulls of linear codes. Firstly, the symmetry of the dimensions of Galois hulls of linear codes is found. Some new necessary and sufficient conditions for linear codes being Galois self-orthogonal codes, Galois self-dual codes, and Galois linear complementary dual codes are characterized. Then, we propose explicit methods to construct Galois self-orthogonal codes of larger length from given Galois self-orthogonal co…
Symbol-pair codes are proposed to combat pair-errors in symbol-pair read channels. The minimum symbol-pair distance is of significance in determining the error-correcting capability of a symbol-pair code. Maximum distance separable (MDS) symbol-pair codes are optimal in the sense that such codes can achieve the Singleton bound. In this paper, two new classes of MDS symbol-pair codes are proposed utilizing repeated-root cyclic codes over finite fields with odd characteristic. Precisely, these codes poss minimum symbol-pair distance ten or twelve, which is bigger than all the known MDS symbol-pa…
Algebraic methods for the design of series of maximum distance separable (MDS) linear block and convolutional codes to required specifications and types are presented. Algorithms are given to design codes to required rate and required error-correcting capability and required types. Infinite series of block codes with rate approaching a given rational $R$ with $0<R<1$ and relative distance over length approaching $(1-R)$ are designed. These can be designed over fields of given characteristic $p$ or over fields of prime order and can be specified to be of a particular type such as (i) dual-conta…
The hull of a linear code is the intersection of itself with its dual code with respect to certain inner product. Both Euclidean and Hermitian hulls are of theorical and practical significance. In this paper, we construct several new classes of MDS codes via (extended) generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and determine their Euclidean or Hermitian hulls. Specifically, four new classes of MDS codes with Hermitian hulls of flexible dimensions and six new classes of MDS codes with Euclidean hulls of flexible dimensions are constructed. For the former, we further construct four new classes of enta…

Symbol-pair codes are proposed to guard against pair-errors in symbol-pair read channels. The minimum symbol-pair distance plays a vital role in determining the error-correcting capability and the constructions of symbol-pair codes with largest possible minimum symbol-pair distance is of great importance. Maximum distance separable (\,MDS\,) symbol-pair codes are optimal in the sense that such codes can acheive the Singleton bound. In this paper, for length $5p$, two new classes of MDS symbol-pair codes with minimum symbol-pair distance seven or eight are constructed by utilizing repeated-root…
In this paper, we construct several classes of maximum distance separable (MDS) codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and extended GRS codes, where we can determine the dimensions of their Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls. It turns out that the dimensions of Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls of the codes in our constructions can take all or almost all possible values. As a consequence, we can apply our results to entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) and obtain several new families of MDS EAQECCs with flexible parameters. The required number of maximally en…
Symbol-pair codes introduced by Cassuto and Blaum in 2010 are designed to protect against the pair errors in symbol-pair read channels. One of the central themes in symbol-error correction is the construction of maximal distance separable (MDS) symbol-pair codes that possess the largest possible pair-error correcting performance. Based on repeated-root cyclic codes, we construct two classes of MDS symbol-pair codes for more general generator polynomials and also give a new class of almost MDS (AMDS) symbol-pair codes with the length $lp$. In addition, we derive all MDS and AMDS symbol-pair cod…
Entanglement-assisted quantum (QUENTA) codes are a subclass of quantum error-correcting codes which use entanglement as a resource. These codes can provide error correction capability higher than the codes derived from the traditional stabilizer formalism. In this paper, it is shown a general method to construct QUENTA codes from cyclic codes. Afterwards, the method is applied to Reed-Solomon codes, BCH codes, and general cyclic codes. We use the Euclidean and Hermitian construction of QUENTA codes. Two families of QUENTA codes are maximal distance separable (MDS), and one is almost MDS or alm…
The hull of linear codes plays an important role in quantum information and coding theory. In the present paper, by investigating the Galois hulls of generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and extended GRS codes over the finite field Fq, we give several new families of MDS codes with Galois hulls of arbitrary dimensions that are not obtained before. Some of them generalize the ones in the literature [13]. As a consequence, using these MDS codes with Galois hulls of arbitrary dimensions, we construct nine new families of MDS entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) with flex…
Partial MDS (PMDS) and sector-disk (SD) codes are classes of erasure correcting codes that combine locality with strong erasure correction capabilities. We construct PMDS and SD codes with local regeneration where each local code is a bandwidth-optimal regenerating MDS code. In the event of a node failure, these codes reduce both, the number of servers that have to be contacted as well as the amount of network traffic required for the repair process. The constructions require significantly smaller field size than the only other construction known in literature. Further, we present a constructi…
A $q$-ary maximum distance separable (MDS) code $C$ with length $n$, dimension $k$ over an alphabet $\mathcal{A}$ of size $q$ is a set of $q^k$ codewords that are elements of $\mathcal{A}^n$, such that the Hamming distance between two distinct codewords in $C$ is at least $n-k+1$. Sets of mutually orthogonal Latin squares of orders $q\leq 9$, corresponding to two-dimensional \mbox{$q$-}ary MDS codes, and $q$-ary one-error-correcting MDS codes for $q\leq 8$ have been classified in earlier studies. These results are used here to complete the classification of all $7$-ary and $8$-ary MDS codes wi…
Linear codes with complementary duals (LCD) have a great deal of significance amongst linear codes. Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are also an important class of linear codes since they achieve the greatest error correcting and detecting capabilities for fixed length and dimension. The construction of linear codes that are both LCD and MDS is a hard task in coding theory. In this paper, we study the constructions of LCD codes that are MDS from negacyclic codes over finite fields of odd prime power $q$ elements. We construct four families of MDS negacyclic LCD codes of length $n|\frac{q…
In this paper, a linear $\ell$-intersection pair of codes is introduced as a generalization of linear complementary pairs of codes. Two linear codes are said to be a linear $\ell$-intersection pair if their intersection has dimension $\ell$. Characterizations and constructions of such pairs of codes are given in terms of the corresponding generator and parity-check matrices. Linear $\ell$-intersection pairs of MDS codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ of length up to $q+1$ are given for all possible parameters. As an application, linear $\ell$-intersection pairs of codes are used to construct entanglement…
We study entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) arising from classical one-point algebraic geometry codes from the Hermitian curve with respect to the Hermitian inner product. Their only unknown parameter is $c$, the number of required maximally entangled quantum states since the Hermitian dual of an AG code is unknown. In this article, we present an efficient algorithmic approach for computing $c$ for this family of EAQECCs. As a result, this algorithm allows us to provide EAQECCs with excellent parameters over any field size.
Entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) constructed from Reed-Solomon codes and BCH codes are considered in this work. It is provided a complete and explicit formula for the parameters of EAQECCs coming from any Reed-Solomon code, for the Hermitian metric, and from any BCH code with extension degree $2$ and consecutive cyclotomic cosets, for both the Euclidean and the Hermitian metric. The main task in this work is the computation of a completely general formula for $c$, the minimum number of required maximally entangled quantum states.
In this paper, the utilization of mobile devices (MDs) as decode-and-forward relays in a device-to-device assisted virtual MIMO (VMIMO) system is studied. Single antenna MDs are randomly distributed on a 2D plane according to a Poisson point process, and only a subset of them are sources leaving other idle MDs available to assist them (relays). Our goal is to develop an efficient algorithm to cluster each source with a subset of available relays to form a VMIMO system under a limited feedback assumption. We first show that the NP- hard optimization problem of precoding in our scenario can be a…

Motivated by the application of high-density data storage technologies, symbol-pair codes are proposed to protect against pair-errors in symbol-pair channels, whose outputs are overlapping pairs of symbols. The research of symbol-pair codes with the largest minimum pair-distance is interesting since such codes have the best possible error-correcting capability. A symbol-pair code attaining the maximal minimum pair-distance is called a maximum distance separable (MDS) symbol-pair code. In this paper, we focus on constructing linear MDS symbol-pair codes over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. W…
MDS codes are erasure-correcting codes that can correct the maximum number of erasures for a given number of redundancy or parity symbols. If an MDS code has $r$ parities and no more than $r$ erasures occur, then by transmitting all the remaining data in the code, the original information can be recovered. However, it was shown that in order to recover a single symbol erasure, only a fraction of $1/r$ of the information needs to be transmitted. This fraction is called the repair bandwidth (fraction). Explicit code constructions were given in previous works. If we view each symbol in the code a…
In this paper we introduce a lowest density MDS array code which is applied to a Smart Meter network to introduce reliability. By treating the network as distributed storage with multiple sources, information can be exchanged between the nodes in the network allowing each node to store parity symbols relating to data from other nodes. A lowest density MDS array code is then applied to make the network robust against outages, ensuring low overhead and data transfers. We show the minimum amount of overhead required to be able to recover from r node erasures in an n node network and explicitly de…
Entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) are a simple and fundamental class of codes. They allow for the construction of quantum codes from classical codes by relaxing the duality condition and using pre-shared entanglement between the sender and receiver. However, in general it is not easy to determine the number of shared pairs required to construct an EAQECC. In this paper, we show that this number is related to the hull of the classical code. Using this fact, we give methods to construct EAQECCs requiring desirable amount of entanglement. This leads to design families…
Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) to desired rate, error-correcting capability and maximum shared entanglement are constructed. Thus for a required rate $R$, required error-correcting capability to correct $t$ errors, mds (maximum distance separable) EAQECCs of the form $[[n,r,d;c]]$ with $R=\frac{r}{n}, d\geq (2t+1), c = (n-r), d= (n-r+1)$ are constructed. Series of such codes may be constructed where the rate and the relative distance approach non-zero constants as $n$ approaches infinity. The codes may also be constructed over prime order fields in which modular…
We prove that the known formulae for computing the optimal number of maximally entangled pairs required for entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) over the binary field hold for codes over arbitrary finite fields as well. We also give a Gilbert-Varshamov bound for EAQECCs and constructions of EAQECCs coming from punctured self-orthogonal linear codes which are valid for any finite field.
Proving the quantum Hamming bound for degenerate nonbinary stabilizer codes has been an open problem for a decade. In this note, I prove this bound for double error-correcting degenerate stabilizer codes. Also, I compute the maximum length of single and double error-correcting MDS stabilizer codes over finite fields.
We prove that any Hermitian self-orthogonal $[n,k,d]_{q^2}$ code gives rise to an $[n,k,d]_{q^2}$ code with $\ell$ dimensional Hermitian hull for $0\le \ell \le k$. We present a new method to construct Hermitian self-orthogonal $[n,k]_{q^2}$ codes with large dimensions $k>\frac{n+q-1}{q+1}$. New families of Hermitian self-orthogonal codes with good parameters are obtained; more precisely those containing almost MDS codes. By applying a puncturing technique to Hermitian self-orthogonal codes, MDS $[n,k]_{q^2}$ linear codes with Hermitian hull having large dimensions $k>\frac{n+q-1}{q+1}$ are al…
