We introduce a Steane-like enlargement procedure for entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) obtained by considering Euclidean inner product. We give formulae for the parameters of these enlarged codes and apply our results to explicitly compute the parameters of enlarged EAQECCs coming from some BCH codes.
In this paper, we study the construction of quantum codes by applying Steane-enlargement to codes from the Hermitian curve. We cover Steane-enlargement of both usual one-point Hermitian codes and of order bound improved Hermitian codes. In particular, the paper contains two constructions of quantum codes whose parameters are described by explicit formulae, and we show that these codes compare favourably to existing, comparable constructions in the literature.
In this work, we study quantum error-correcting codes obtained by using Steane-enlargement. We apply this technique to certain codes defined from Cartesian products previously considered by Galindo et al. in [4]. We give bounds on the dimension increase obtained via enlargement, and additionally give an algorithm to compute the true increase. A number of examples of codes are provided, and their parameters are compared to relevant codes in the literature, which shows that the parameters of the enlarged codes are advantageous. Furthermore, comparison with the Gilbert-Varshamov bound for stabili…
Recently, Galindo et al. introduced the concept of asymmetric entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (AEAQECCs) from Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction. In general, it's difficult to determine the required number of maximally entangled states of an AEAQECC, which is associated with the dimension of the intersection of the two corresponding linear codes. Two linear codes are said to be a linear l-intersection pair if their intersection has dimension l. In this paper, all possible linear l-intersection pairs of MDS codes are given. As an application, we give a complete chara…
Four quantum code constructions generating several new families of good nonbinary quantum nonprimitive non-narrow-sense Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes are presented in this paper. The first two ones are based on Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction derived from two nonprimitive BCH codes, not necessarily self-orthogonal. The third one is based on nonbinary Steane's enlargement of CSS codes applied to suitable sub-families of nonprimitive non-narrow-sense BCH codes. The fourth construction is derived from suitable sub-families of Hermitian self-orthogonal nonprimitive non-narrow-se…
In this paper, we utilize a concatenation scheme to construct new families of quantum error correction codes achieving the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov (GV) bound asymptotically. We concatenate alternant codes with any linear code achieving the classical GV bound to construct Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) codes. We show that the concatenated code can achieve the quantum GV bound asymptotically and can approach the Hashing bound for asymmetric Pauli channels. By combing Steane's enlargement construction of CSS codes, we derive a family of enlarged stabilizer codes achieving the quantum GV bound for…
A theory for constructing quantum error correcting codes from Toric surfaces by the Calderbank-Shor-Steane method is presented. In particular we study the method on toric Hirzebruch surfaces. The results are obtained by constructing a dualizing differential form for the toric surface and by using the cohomology and the intersection theory of toric varieties. In earlier work the author developed methods to construct linear error correcting codes from toric varieties and derive the code parameters using the cohomology and the intersection theory on toric varieties. This method is generalized in …
In the current thesis we first talk about the six-qubit quantum error-correcting code and show its connections to entanglement-assisted error-correcting coding theory and then to subsystem codes. This code bridges the gap between the five-qubit (perfect) and Steane codes. We discuss two methods to encode one qubit into six physical qubits. Each of the two examples corrects an arbitrary single-qubit error. The first example is a degenerate six-qubit quantum error-correcting code. We prove that a six-qubit code without entanglement assistance cannot simultaneously possess a Calderbank-Shor-Stean…
Using the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction, pure $q$-ary asymmetric quantum error-correcting codes attaining the quantum Singleton bound are constructed. Such codes are called pure CSS asymmetric quantum maximum distance separable (AQMDS) codes. Assuming the validity of the classical MDS Conjecture, pure CSS AQMDS codes of all possible parameters are accounted for.
In this paper, we consider quantum error correction over depolarizing channels with non-binary low-density parity-check codes defined over Galois field of size $2^p$ . The proposed quantum error correcting codes are based on the binary quasi-cyclic CSS (Calderbank, Shor and Steane) codes. The resulting quantum codes outperform the best known quantum codes and surpass the performance limit of the bounded distance decoder. By increasing the size of the underlying Galois field, i.e., $2^p$, the error floors are considerably improved.
A conjugate code pair is defined as a pair of linear codes either of which contains the dual of the other. A conjugate code pair represents the essential structure of the corresponding Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) quantum error-correcting code. It is known that conjugate code pairs are applicable to quantum cryptography. In this work, a polynomial construction of conjugate code pairs is presented. The constructed pairs achieve the highest known achievable rate on additive channels, and are decodable with algorithms of polynomial complexity.
We show how to protect a stream of quantum information from decoherence induced by a noisy quantum communication channel. We exploit preshared entanglement and a convolutional coding structure to develop a theory of entanglement-assisted quantum convolutional coding. Our construction produces a Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) entanglement-assisted quantum convolutional code from two arbitrary classical binary convolutional codes. The rate and error-correcting properties of the classical convolutional codes directly determine the corresponding properties of the resulting entanglement-assisted quan…
We introduce a Gray map from $\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}}$ to $\mathbb{F}_{2}^{2m}$ and study $(1+u)$-constacyclic codes over $\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}},$ where $u^{2}=0.$ It is proved that the image of a $(1+u)$-constacyclic code length $n$ over $\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}}$ under the Gray map is a distance-invariant quasi-cyclic code of index $m$ and length $2mn$ over $\mathbb{F}_{2}.$ We also prove that every code of length $2mn$ which is the Gray image of cyclic codes over $\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^{m}}$ of length $n$ is permutation equivalent to…
We present a general theory of entanglement-assisted quantum convolutional coding. The codes have a convolutional or memory structure, they assume that the sender and receiver share noiseless entanglement prior to quantum communication, and they are not restricted to possess the Calderbank-Shor-Steane structure as in previous work. We provide two significant advances for quantum convolutional coding theory. We first show how to "expand" a given set of quantum convolutional generators. This expansion step acts as a preprocessor for a polynomial symplectic Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization procedur…
Performing active quantum error correction to protect fragile quantum states highly depends on the correctness of error information--error syndromes. To obtain reliable error syndromes using imperfect physical circuits, we propose the idea of quantum data-syndrome (DS) codes that are capable of correcting both data qubits and syndrome bits errors. We study fundamental properties of quantum DS codes, including split weight enumerators, generalized MacWilliams identities, and linear programming bounds. In particular, we derive Singleton and Hamming-type upper bounds on degenerate quantum DS code…
In this paper, we introduce the concept of dual universality of hash functions and present its applications to quantum cryptography. We begin by establishing the one-to-one correspondence between a linear function family {\cal F} and a code family {\cal C}, and thereby defining \varepsilon-almost dual universal_2 hash functions, as a generalization of the conventional universal_2 hash functions. Then we show that this generalized (and thus broader) class of hash functions is in fact sufficient for the security of quantum cryptography. This result can be explained in two different formalisms.
