A.Regev proved that the codimension growth of an associative PI-algebra is at most exponential. The author established a scale for the codimension growth of Lie PI-algebras, which includes a series of functions between exponential and factorial functions. We prove that the same scale stratifies the ordinary codimension growth of Poisson PI-algebras satisfying Lie identical relations. As a byproduct, we obtain a new bound on the codimension growth of Lie PI-algebras in terms of complexity functions. We also study very fast codimension growth of some Poisson algebras without Lie identities. We essentially use techniques of exponential generating functions and growth of respective fast growing entire functions.
We study codimension growth of infinite dimensional Lie algebras over a field of characteristic zero. We prove that if a Lie algebra $L$ is an extension of a nilpotent algebra by a finite dimensional semisimple algebra then the PI-exponent of $L$ exists and is a positive integer.
We study numerical invariants of identities of finite-dimensional solvable Lie superalgebras. We define new series of finite-dimensional solvable Lie superalgebras $L$ with non-nilpotent derived subalgebra $L'$ and discuss their codimension growth. For the first algebra of this series we prove the existence and integrality of $exp(L)$.
Let W be an associative PI-affine algebra over a field F of characteristic zero. Suppose W is G-graded where G is a finite group. Let exp(W) and exp(W_e) denote the codimension growth of W and of the identity component W_e, respectively. We prove: exp(W) \leq |G|^2 exp(W_e). This inequality had been conjectured by Bahturin and Zaicev.
We study polynomial identities of finite dimensional simple color Lie superalgebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero graded by the product of two cyclic groups of order $2$. We prove that the codimensions of identities grow exponentially and the rate of exponent equals the dimension of the algebra. A similar result is also obtained for graded identities and graded codimensions.
Let W be an associative PI-algebra over a field F of characteristic zero. Suppose W is G-graded where G is a finite group. Let exp(W) and exp(W_e) denote the codimension growth of W and of the identity component W_e, respectively. The following inequality had been conjectured by Bahturin and Zaicev: exp(W)\leq |G|^2 exp(W_e). The inequality is known in case the algebra W is affine (i.e. finitely generated). Here we prove the conjecture in general.
The asymptotic behaviour is studied of exponentially bounded sequences of codimensions of identities of algebras with unity. A series of algebras is constructed for which the base of the exponential increases by exactly one when an outer unity is adjoined to the original algebra. We show that the PI-exponents of unital algebras can take any value greater than two, and the exponents of finite-dimensional unital algebras form a dense subset of the domain [2,$\infty$).
We introduce grading on certain finite dimensional simple Lie superalgebras of type $P(t)$ by elementary abelian 2-group. This grading gives rise to Pauli matrices and is a far generalization of $(\mathbb Z_2\times \mathbb Z_2)$-grading on Lie algebra of $(2\times 2)$-traceless matrices. We use this grading for studying numerical invariants of polyomial identities of Lie superalgebras. In particular, we compute graded PI-exponent corresponding to Pauli grading.
Let $L$ be a finite dimensional Lie $F$-algebra endowed with a generalized action by an associative algebra $H$. We investigate the exponential growth rate of the sequence of $H$-graded codimensions $c_n^H(L)$ of $L$ which is a measure for the number of non-polynomial $H$-identities of $L$. More precisely, we construct the first example of an $S$-graded Lie algebra having a non-integer, even irrational, exponential growth rate $\lim_{n\rightarrow \infty} \sqrt[n]{c_n^{S}(L)}$. Hereby $S$ is a semigroup and an exact value is given. On the other hand, returning to general $H$, if $L$ is semisimp…
Let $F$ be a field of characteristic zero and $W$ be an associative affine $F$-algebra satisfying a polynomial identity (PI). The codimension sequence associated to $W$, $c_n(W)$, is known to be of the form $Θ(c n^t d^n)$, where $d$ is the well known (PI) exponent of $W$. In this paper we establish an algebraic interpretation of the polynomial part (the constant $t$) by means of Kemer's theory. In particular, we show that in case $W$ is a basic algebra, then $t = \frac{d-q}{2} + s$, where $q$ is the number of simple component in $W/J(W)$ and $s+1$ is the nilpotency degree of $J(W)$. Thus provi…
Suppose a finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ acts by derivations on a finite dimensional associative or Lie algebra $A$ over a field of characteristic $0$. We prove the $\mathfrak g$-invariant analogs of Wedderburn - Mal'cev and Levi theorems, and the analog of Amitsur's conjecture on asymptotic behavior for codimensions of polynomial identities with derivations of $A$. It turns out that for associative algebras the differential PI-exponent coincides with the ordinary one. Also we prove the analog of Amitsur's conjecture for finite dimensional associative algebras with an …
We show that if $T$ is any of four semigroups of two elements that are not groups, there exists a finite dimensional associative $T$-graded algebra over a field of characteristic $0$ such that the codimensions of its graded polynomial identities have a non-integer exponent of growth. In particular, we provide an example of a finite dimensional graded-simple semigroup graded algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$ with a non-integer graded PI-exponent, which is strictly less than the dimension of the algebra. However, if $T$ is a left or right zero band and the $T$-grad…
An algebra with identities $a\circ(b\circ c-c\circ b)=(a\circ b)\circ c-(a\circ c)\circ b$ and $a\circ(b\circ c)=b\circ(a\circ c)$ is called Novikov. We construct free Novikov base in terms of Young diagrams. We show that codimensions exponent for a variety of Novikov algebras exists and is equal 4.
Consider a finite dimensional Lie algebra L with an action of a finite group G over a field of characteristic 0. We prove the analog of Amitsur's conjecture on asymptotic behavior for codimensions of polynomial G-identities of L. As a consequence, we prove the analog of Amitsur's conjecture for graded codimensions of any finite dimensional Lie algebra graded by a finite Abelian group.
We discuss algorithmic approach to growth of the codimension sequences of varieties of multilinear algebras, or, equivalently, the sequences of the component dimensions of algebraic operads. The (exponentional) generating functions of such sequences are called codimension series of varieties, or generating series of operads. We show that in general there does not exist an algorithm to decide whether the growth exponent of a codimension sequence of a variety defined by given finite sets of operations and identities is equal to a given rational number. In particular, we solve negatively a recent…
Let $W = \mathbb{C}[t,t^{-1}]\partial_t$ be the Witt algebra of algebraic vector fields on $\mathbb{C}^\times$ and let $Vir$ be the Virasoro algebra, the unique nontrivial central extension of $W$. In this paper, we study the Poisson ideal structure of the symmetric algebras of $Vir$ and $W$, as well as several related Lie algebras. We classify prime Poisson ideals and Poisson primitive ideals of $S(Vir)$ and $S(W)$. In particular, we show that the only functions in $W^*$ which vanish on a nontrivial Poisson ideal (that is, the only maximal ideals of $S(W)$ with a nontrivial Poisson core) are …
Let A be a finite dimensional algebra over a field of characteristic zero graded by a finite abelian group G. Here we study a growth function related to the graded polynomial identities satisfied by A by computing the exponential rate of growth of the sequence of graded codimensions of A. We prove that the G-exponent of A exists and is an integer related in an explicit way to the dimension of a suitable semisimple subalgebra of A.
In this note we draw a connection between noncommutative algebra and geometric group theory. Specifically, we ask whether it is possible to bound the sequence of codimensions for an associative PI-algebra using techniques from geometric group theory. The classic and best known bound on codimension growth was derived by finding a particularly nice spanning set for the multilinear polynomials of degree n inside the free algebra. This spanning set corresponds to permutations in the symmetric group which are so-called d-good, where d is the degree of an identity satisfied by the algebra. The motiv…
Let G be a finite group and A a finite dimensional G-graded algebra over a field of characteristic zero. When A is simple as a G-graded algebra, by mean of Regev central polynomials we construct multialternating graded polynomials of arbitrarily large degree non vanishing on A. As a consequence we compute the exponential rate of growth of the sequence of graded codimensions of an arbitrary G-graded algebra satisfying an ordinary polynomial identity. In particular we show it is an integer. The result was proviously known in case G is abelian.
In this paper we study algebras with trace and their trace polynomial identities over a field of characteristic 0. We consider two commutative matrix algebras: $D_2$, the algebra of $2\times 2$ diagonal matrices and $C_2$, the algebra of $2 \times 2$ matrices generated by $e_{11}+e_{22}$ and $e_{12}$. We describe all possible traces on these algebras and we study the corresponding trace codimensions. Moreover we characterize the varieties with trace of polynomial growth generated by a finite dimensional algebra. As a consequence, we see that the growth of a variety with trace is either polynom…
We study codimension growth of infinite dimensional Lie superalgebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We prove that if a Lie superalgebra $L$ is a Grassmann envelope of a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra then the PI-exponent of $L$ exists and it is a positive integer.
Let $G$ be a free group of rank $n$ and $H\subset G$ its subgroup of finite index. Then $H$ is also a free group and the rank $m$ of $H$ is determined by Schreier's formula $m-1=(n-1)\cdot|G:H|.$ Any subalgebra of a free Lie algebra is also free. But a straightforward analogue of Schreier's formula for free Lie algebras does not exist, because any subalgebra of finite codimension has an infinite number of generators. But the appropriate Schreier's formula for free Lie algebras exists in terms of formal power series. There exists also a version in terms of exponential generating functions. This…
Jacobi/Poisson algebras are algebraic counterparts of Jacobi/Poisson manifolds. We introduce representations of a Jacobi algebra $A$ and Frobenius Jacobi algebras as symmetric objects in the category. A characterization theorem for Frobenius Jacobi algebras is given in terms of integrals on Jacobi algebras. For a vector space $V$ a non-abelian cohomological type object ${\mathcal J}{\mathcal H}^{2} \, (V, \, A)$ is constructed: it classifies all Jacobi algebras containing $A$ as a subalgebra of codimension equal to ${\rm dim} (V)$. Representations of $A$ are used in order to give the decomposi…
In this paper we study the growth of the differential identities of some algebras with derivations, i.e., associative algebras where a Lie algebra $L$ (and its universal enveloping algebra $U(L)$) acts on them by derivations. In particular, we study in detail the differential identities and the cocharacter sequences of some algebras whose sequence of differential codimensions has polynomial growth. Moreover, we shall give a complete description of the differential identities of the algebra $UT_2$ of $2\times 2$ upper triangular matrices endowed with all possible action of a Lie algebra by deri…
We consider when the symmetric algebra of an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra, equipped with the natural Poisson bracket, satisfies the ascending chain condition (ACC) on Poisson ideals. We define a combinatorial condition on a graded Lie algebra which we call Dicksonian because it is related to Dickson's lemma on finite subsets of $\mathbb N^k$. Our main result is: Theorem. If $\mathfrak g$ is a Dicksonian graded Lie algebra over a field of characteristic zero, then the symmetric algebra $S(\mathfrak g)$ satisfies the ACC on radical Poisson ideals. As an application, we establish this ACC for…
