The Central Sets Theorem was introduced by H. Furstenberg and then afterwards several mathematicians have provided various versions and extensions of this theorem. All of these theorems deal with central sets, and its origin from the algebra of Stone-Cech compactification of arbitrary semigroup, say $βS$. It can be proved that every closed subsemigroup of $βS$ is generated by a filter. We will show that, under some restrictions, one can derive the Central Sets Theorem for any closed subsemigroup of $βS$ . We will derive this theorem using the corresponding filter and its algebra. Later we will also deal with how the notions of largeness along filters are preserved under some well behaved homomorphisms and give some consequences.
H. Furstenberg introduced the notion of central set in terms of topological dynamics and established the central set theorem. The essence of central set theorem is that it is the simultaneous extension of van der Waerden's theorem and Hindman's theorem. Later V. Bergelson and N. Hindman established a connection between central sets and the algebra of Stone-cech compactification and proved that the central sets are the member of minimal idempotent ultrafilter of discrete semigroup. In some subsequent papers the central set theorem has been studied more deeply and some generalizations has been e…
Gaussian blur is a commonly-used method to filter image data. This paper introduces the collapsing sum, a new operator on matrices that provides a combinatorial interpretation of Gaussian blur. We study the combinatorial properties of this operator and prove the explicit relation between Gaussian blur and the collapsing sum.
In this article, we investigate the image and preimage of the important combinatorial sets such as central sets, $C$-sets, and $J_δ$-sets which play an important role in the study of combinatorics under certain partial semigroup homomorphism. Using that we prove certain results which deal with the existence of $C$-set which are not central in partial semigroup framework.
N. Hindman and D. Strauss had shown that, for discrete semigroups, the cartesian product of two central sets are central. They also proved that the product of J- sets and C-sets are also J-set and C-set and characterized when the infnite product of these sets are preserved. To prove these results they used the algebraic structure of Stone-Cech compactification of discrete semigroups. In this work we will give a combinatorial proof of the preserveness of those large sets under fnite cartesian product.
A useful heuristic in the understanding of large random combinatorial structures is the Arratia-Tavare principle, which describes an approximation to the joint distribution of component-sizes using independent random variables. The principle outlines conditions under which the total variation distance between the true joint distribution and the approximation should be small, and was successfully exploited by Pittel in the cases of integer partitions and set partitions. We provide sufficient conditions for this principle to be true in a general context, valid for certain discrete probability di…
Hindman and Leader first introduced the notion of Central sets near zero for dense subsemigroups of $((0,\infty),+)$ and proved a powerful combinatorial theorem about such sets. Using the algebraic structure of the Stone-$\breve{C}$ech compactification, Bayatmanesh and Tootkabani generalized and extended this combinatorial theorem to the central theorem near zero. Algebraically one can define quasi-central set near zero for dense subsemigroup of $((0,\infty),+)$, and they also satisfy the conclusion of central sets theorem near zero. In a dense subsemigroup of $((0,\infty),+)$, C-sets near zer…
Using dynamics, Furstenberg defined the concept of a central subset of positive integers and proved several powerful combinatorial properties of central sets. Later using the algebraic structure of the Stone-Čech compactification, Bergelson and Hindman, with the assistance of B. Weiss, generalized the notion of a central set to any semigroup and extended the most important combinatorial property of central sets to the central sets theorem. Currently the most powerful formulation of the central sets theorem is due to De, Hindman, and Strauss in [3, Corollary 3.10]. However their formulation of …
A filter lattice is a distributive lattice formed by all filters of a poset in the anti-inclusion order. We study the combinatorial properties of the Hasse diagrams of filter lattices of certain posets, so called Fibonacci-like cubes, in this paper. Several enumerative polynomials, e.g.\ rank generating function, cube polynomials and degree sequence polynomials are obtained. Some of these results relate to Fibonacci sequence and Padovan sequence.
Using the notions of Topological dynamics, H. Furstenberg defined central sets and proved the Central Sets Theorem. Later V. Bergelson and N. Hindman characterized central sets in terms of algebra of the Stone-Čech Compactification of discrete semigroup. They found that central sets are the members of the minimal idempotents of $βS$, the Stone-Čech Compactification of a semigroup $\left(S,\cdot\right)$. We know that any closed subsemigroup of $βS$ is generated by a filter. We call a set $A$ to be a $\mathcal{F}$-central set if it is a member of a minimal idempotent of a closed subsemigroup of …
In this paper, by using some families of special numbers and polynomials with their generating functions, we give various properties of these numbers and polynomials. These numbers are related to the well-known numbers and polynomials, which are the Euler numbers, the Stirling numbers of the second kind, the central factorial numbers and the array polynomials. We also discuss some combinatorial interpretations of these numbers related to the rook polynomials and numbers. Furthermore, we give computation formulas for these numbers and polynomials.
In this paper we study the tensor powers of the standard representation of the quantum super-algebra $U_q(sl(2|1)$, focusing on the rings of its algebra endomorphisms, called centraliser algebras and denoted by $LG_n$. Their dimensions were conjectured by I. Marin and E. Wagner \cite{MW}. We prove this conjecture, describing the intertwiner spaces from a semi-simple decomposition as sets consisting of certain paths in a planar lattice with integer coordinates. Using this model, we present a matrix unit basis for the centraliser algebra $LG_n$, by means of closed curves in the plane, which are …
We study the joint distribution of the input sum and the output sum of a deterministic transducer. Here, the input of this finite-state machine is a uniformly distributed random sequence. We give a simple combinatorial characterization of transducers for which the output sum has bounded variance, and we also provide algebraic and combinatorial characterizations of transducers for which the covariance of input and output sum is bounded, so that the two are asymptotically independent. Our results are illustrated by several examples, such as transducers that count specific blocks in the binary ex…
Given a finite set of roots of unity, we show that all power sums are non-negative integers iff the set forms a group under multiplication. The main argument is purely combinatorial and states that for an arbitrary finite set system the non-negativity of certain alternating sums is equivalent to the set system being a filter. As an application we determine all discrete Fourier pairs of $\{0,1\}$-matrices. This technical result is an essential step in the classification of $R$-matrices of quantum groups.
We study the localization along a filter of several dynamical notions. This generalizes and extends similar localizations that have been considered in the literature, e.g. near 0 and near an idempotent. Definitions and basic properties of F-syndetic, piecewise F-syndetic, collectionwise F-piecewise syndetic, F-quasi central and F-central sets and their relations with F-uniformly recurrent points and ultrafilters are studied. We provide also the nonstandard characterizations of some of the above notions and we prove the partition regularity of several nonlinear equations along filters under mil…
Hindman and Leader first introduced the notion of semigroup of ultrafilters converging to zero for a dense subsemigroups of $((0,\infty),+)$. Using the algebraic structure of the Stone-$\breve{C}$ech compactification, Tootkabani and Vahed generalized and extended this notion to an idempotent instead of zero, that is a semigroup of ultrafilters converging to an idempotent $e$ for a dense subsemigroups of a semitopological semigroup $(T, +)$ and they gave the combinatorial proof of central set theorem near $e$. Algebraically one can also define quasi-central sets near $e$ for dense subsemigroups…
