Garment transfer shows great potential in realistic applications with the goal of transfering outfits across different people images. However, garment transfer between images with heavy misalignments or severe occlusions still remains as a challenge. In this work, we propose Complementary Transfering Network (CT-Net) to adaptively model different levels of geometric changes and transfer outfits between different people. In specific, CT-Net consists of three modules: 1) A complementary warping module first estimates two complementary warpings to transfer the desired clothes in different granularities. 2) A layout prediction module is proposed to predict the target layout, which guides the preservation or generation of the body parts in the synthesized images. 3) A dynamic fusion module adaptively combines the advantages of the complementary warpings to render the garment transfer results. Extensive experiments conducted on DeepFashion dataset demonstrate that our network synthesizes high-quality garment transfer images and significantly outperforms the state-of-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively.

In this paper, we propose to predict the physics parameters of real fabrics and garments by learning their physics similarities between simulated fabrics via a Physics Similarity Network (PhySNet). For this, we estimate wind speeds generated by an electric fan and the area weight to predict bending stiffness of simulated and real fabrics and garments. We found that PhySNet coupled with a Bayesian optimiser can predict physics parameters and improve the state-of-art by 34%for real fabrics and 68% for real garments.

We present Multi-Garment Network (MGN), a method to predict body shape and clothing, layered on top of the SMPL model from a few frames (1-8) of a video. Several experiments demonstrate that this representation allows higher level of control when compared to single mesh or voxel representations of shape. Our model allows to predict garment geometry, relate it to the body shape, and transfer it to new body shapes and poses. To train MGN, we leverage a digital wardrobe containing 712 digital garments in correspondence, obtained with a novel method to register a set of clothing templates to a dat…
Recent approaches to drape garments quickly over arbitrary human bodies leverage self-supervision to eliminate the need for large training sets. However, they are designed to train one network per clothing item, which severely limits their generalization abilities. In our work, we rely on self-supervision to train a single network to drape multiple garments. This is achieved by predicting a 3D deformation field conditioned on the latent codes of a generative network, which models garments as unsigned distance fields. Our pipeline can generate and drape previously unseen garments of any topolog…

Learning to reconstruct 3D garments is important for dressing 3D human bodies of different shapes in different poses. Previous works typically rely on 2D images as input, which however suffer from the scale and pose ambiguities. To circumvent the problems caused by 2D images, we propose a principled framework, Garment4D, that uses 3D point cloud sequences of dressed humans for garment reconstruction. Garment4D has three dedicated steps: sequential garments registration, canonical garment estimation, and posed garment reconstruction. The main challenges are two-fold: 1) effective 3D feature lea…

Recent research works have focused on generating human models and garments from their 2D images. However, state-of-the-art researches focus either on only a single layer of the garment on a human model or on generating multiple garment layers without any guarantee of the intersection-free geometric relationship between them. In reality, people wear multiple layers of garments in their daily life, where an inner layer of garment could be partially covered by an outer one. In this paper, we try to address this multi-layer modeling problem and propose the Layered-Garment Net (LGN) that is capable…
We build a heatmap-based landmark detection model to locate important landmarks on 2D RGB garment images. The main goal is to detect edges, corners and suitable interior region of the garments. This let us re-create 3D garments in modern 3D editing software by incorporate landmark detection model and texture unwrapping. We use a U-net architecture with ResNet backbone to build the model. With an appropriate loss function, we are able to train a moderately robust model.
We present an approach to continuous perception for robotic laundry tasks. Our assumption is that the visual prediction of a garment's shapes and weights is possible via a neural network that learns the dynamic changes of garments from video sequences. Continuous perception is leveraged during training by inputting consecutive frames, of which the network learns how a garment deforms. To evaluate our hypothesis, we captured a dataset of 40K RGB and 40K depth video sequences while a garment is being manipulated. We also conducted ablation studies to understand whether the neural network learns …
The garment transfer problem comprises two tasks: learning to separate a person's body (pose, shape, color) from their clothing (garment type, shape, style) and then generating new images of the wearer dressed in arbitrary garments. We present GarmentGAN, a new algorithm that performs image-based garment transfer through generative adversarial methods. The GarmentGAN framework allows users to virtually try-on items before purchase and generalizes to various apparel types. GarmentGAN requires as input only two images, namely, a picture of the target fashion item and an image containing the cust…

Despite recent success, deep learning-based methods for predicting 3D garment deformation under body motion suffer from interpenetration problems between the garment and the body. To address this problem, we propose a novel collision handling neural network layer called Repulsive Force Unit (ReFU). Based on the signed distance function (SDF) of the underlying body and the current garment vertex positions, ReFU predicts the per-vertex offsets that push any interpenetrating vertex to a collision-free configuration while preserving the fine geometric details. We show that ReFU is differentiable w…
In this paper, we develop a robust 3D garment digitization solution that can generalize well on real-world fashion catalog images with cloth texture occlusions and large body pose variations. We assumed fixed topology parametric template mesh models for known types of garments (e.g., T-shirts, Trousers) and perform mapping of high-quality texture from an input catalog image to UV map panels corresponding to the parametric mesh model of the garment. We achieve this by first predicting a sparse set of 2D landmarks on the boundary of the garments. Subsequently, we use these landmarks to perform T…

A vital task of the wider digital human effort is the creation of realistic garments on digital avatars, both in the form of characteristic fold patterns and wrinkles in static frames as well as richness of garment dynamics under avatars' motion. Existing workflow of modeling, simulation, and rendering closely replicates the physics behind real garments, but is tedious and requires repeating most of the workflow under changes to characters' motion, camera angle, or garment resizing. Although data-driven solutions exist, they either focus on static scenarios or only handle dynamics of tight gar…

We present a novel approach that constructs 3D virtual garment models from photos. Unlike previous methods that require photos of a garment on a human model or a mannequin, our approach can work with various states of the garment: on a model, on a mannequin, or on a flat surface. To construct a complete 3D virtual model, our approach only requires two images as input, one front view and one back view. We first apply a multi-task learning network called JFNet that jointly predicts fashion landmarks and parses a garment image into semantic parts. The predicted landmarks are used for estimating s…
While Physics-Based Simulation (PBS) can accurately drape a 3D garment on a 3D body, it remains too costly for real-time applications, such as virtual try-on. By contrast, inference in a deep network, requiring a single forward pass, is much faster. Taking advantage of this, we propose a novel architecture to fit a 3D garment template to a 3D body. Specifically, we build upon the recent progress in 3D point cloud processing with deep networks to extract garment features at varying levels of detail, including point-wise, patch-wise and global features. We fuse these features with those extracte…
Fashion plays a pivotal role in society. Combining garments appropriately is essential for people to communicate their personality and style. Also different events require outfits to be thoroughly chosen to comply with underlying social clothing rules. Therefore, combining garments appropriately might not be trivial. The fashion industry has turned this into a massive source of income, relying on complex recommendation systems to retrieve and suggest appropriate clothing items for customers. To perform better recommendations, personalized suggestions can be performed, taking into account user …

Image-based virtual try-on is one of the most promising applications of human-centric image generation due to its tremendous real-world potential. In this work, we take a step forwards to explore versatile virtual try-on solutions, which we argue should possess three main properties, namely, they should support unsupervised training, arbitrary garment categories, and controllable garment editing. To this end, we propose a characteristic-preserving end-to-end network, the PAtch-routed SpaTially-Adaptive GAN++ (PASTA-GAN++), to achieve a versatile system for high-resolution unpaired virtual try-…
Online garment shopping has gained many customers in recent years. Describing a dress using keywords does not always yield the proper results, which in turn leads to dissatisfaction of customers. A visual search based system will be enormously beneficent to the industry. Hence, we propose a framework that can retrieve similar clothes that can be found in an image. The first task is to extract the garment from the input image (street photo). There are various challenges for that, including pose, illumination, and background clutter. We use a Generative Adversarial Network for the task of retrie…

High-fidelity clothing reconstruction is the key to achieving photorealism in a wide range of applications including human digitization, virtual try-on, etc. Recent advances in learning-based approaches have accomplished unprecedented accuracy in recovering unclothed human shape and pose from single images, thanks to the availability of powerful statistical models, e.g. SMPL, learned from a large number of body scans. In contrast, modeling and recovering clothed human and 3D garments remains notoriously difficult, mostly due to the lack of large-scale clothing models available for the research…
We present a learning algorithm that uses bone-driven motion networks to predict the deformation of loose-fitting garment meshes at interactive rates. Given a garment, we generate a simulation database and extract virtual bones from simulated mesh sequences using skin decomposition. At runtime, we separately compute low- and high-frequency deformations in a sequential manner. The low-frequency deformations are predicted by transferring body motions to virtual bones' motions, and the high-frequency deformations are estimated leveraging the global information of virtual bones' motions and local …

We present a learning-based approach for virtual try-on applications based on a fully convolutional graph neural network. In contrast to existing data-driven models, which are trained for a specific garment or mesh topology, our fully convolutional model can cope with a large family of garments, represented as parametric predefined 2D panels with arbitrary mesh topology, including long dresses, shirts, and tight tops. Under the hood, our novel geometric deep learning approach learns to drape 3D garments by decoupling the three different sources of deformations that condition the fit of clothin…
The designers' tendency to adhere to a specific mental set and heavy emotional investment in their initial ideas often hinder their ability to innovate during the design thinking and ideation process. In the fashion industry, in particular, the growing diversity of customers' needs, the intense global competition, and the shrinking time-to-market (a.k.a., "fast fashion") further exacerbate this challenge for designers. Recent advances in deep generative models have created new possibilities to overcome the cognitive obstacles of designers through automated generation and/or editing of design c…
While significant progress has been made in garment transfer, one of the most applicable directions of human-centric image generation, existing works overlook the in-the-wild imagery, presenting severe garment-person misalignment as well as noticeable degradation in fine texture details. This paper, therefore, attends to virtual try-on in real-world scenes and brings essential improvements in authenticity and naturalness especially for loose garment (e.g., skirts, formal dresses), challenging poses (e.g., cross arms, bent legs), and cluttered backgrounds. Specifically, we find that the pixel f…

In this paper, we present a simple yet effective method to automatically transfer textures of clothing images (front and back) to 3D garments worn on top SMPL, in real time. We first automatically compute training pairs of images with aligned 3D garments using a custom non-rigid 3D to 2D registration method, which is accurate but slow. Using these pairs, we learn a mapping from pixels to the 3D garment surface. Our idea is to learn dense correspondences from garment image silhouettes to a 2D-UV map of a 3D garment surface using shape information alone, completely ignoring texture, which allows…

Image-based virtual try-on involves synthesizing perceptually convincing images of a model wearing a particular garment and has garnered significant research interest due to its immense practical applicability. Recent methods involve a two stage process: i) warping of the garment to align with the model ii) texture fusion of the warped garment and target model to generate the try-on output. Issues arise due to the non-rigid nature of garments and the lack of geometric information about the model or the garment. It often results in improper rendering of granular details. We propose ZFlow, an en…

A virtual try-on method takes a product image and an image of a model and produces an image of the model wearing the product. Most methods essentially compute warps from the product image to the model image and combine using image generation methods. However, obtaining a realistic image is challenging because the kinematics of garments is complex and because outline, texture, and shading cues in the image reveal errors to human viewers. The garment must have appropriate drapes; texture must be warped to be consistent with the shape of a draped garment; small details (buttons, collars, lapels, …

In this paper, we tackle the problem of static 3D cloth draping on virtual human bodies. We introduce a two-stream deep network model that produces a visually plausible draping of a template cloth on virtual 3D bodies by extracting features from both the body and garment shapes. Our network learns to mimic a Physics-Based Simulation (PBS) method while requiring two orders of magnitude less computation time. To train the network, we introduce loss terms inspired by PBS to produce plausible results and make the model collision-aware. To increase the details of the draped garment, we introduce tw…
We present Poly-GAN, a novel conditional GAN architecture that is motivated by Fashion Synthesis, an application where garments are automatically placed on images of human models at an arbitrary pose. Poly-GAN allows conditioning on multiple inputs and is suitable for many tasks, including image alignment, image stitching, and inpainting. Existing methods have a similar pipeline where three different networks are used to first align garments with the human pose, then perform stitching of the aligned garment and finally refine the results. Poly-GAN is the first instance where a common architect…
We propose a novel pose-guided appearance transfer network for transferring a given reference appearance to a target pose in unprecedented image resolution (1024 * 1024), given respectively an image of the reference and target person. No 3D model is used. Instead, our network utilizes dense local descriptors including local perceptual loss and local discriminators to refine details, which is trained progressively in a coarse-to-fine manner to produce the high-resolution output to faithfully preserve complex appearance of garment textures and geometry, while hallucinating seamlessly the transfe…

Virtual try-on methods aim to generate images of fashion models wearing arbitrary combinations of garments. This is a challenging task because the generated image must appear realistic and accurately display the interaction between garments. Prior works produce images that are filled with artifacts and fail to capture important visual details necessary for commercial applications. We propose Outfit Visualization Net (OVNet) to capture these important details (e.g. buttons, shading, textures, realistic hemlines, and interactions between garments) and produce high quality multiple-garment virtua…

Generative adversarial networks achieve great performance in photorealistic image synthesis in various domains, including human images. However, they usually employ latent vectors that encode the sampled outputs globally. This does not allow convenient control of semantically-relevant individual parts of the image, and is not able to draw samples that only differ in partial aspects, such as clothing style. We address these limitations and present a generative model for images of dressed humans offering control over pose, local body part appearance and garment style. This is the first method to…
