The Fermilab Muon $g-2$ collaboration recently announced the first result of measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment ($g-2$), which confirmed the previous result at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and thus the discrepancy with its Standard Model prediction. We revisit low-scale supersymmetric models that are naturally capable to solve the muon $g-2$ anomaly, focusing on two distinct scenarios: chargino-contribution dominated and pure-bino-contribution dominated scenarios. It is shown that the slepton pair-production searches have excluded broad parameter spaces for both two scenarios, but they are not closed yet. For the chargino-dominated scenario, the models with $m_{\tildeμ_{\rm L}}\gtrsim m_{\tildeχ^{\pm}_1}$ are still widely allowed. For the bino-dominated scenario, we find that, although slightly non-trivial, the region with low $\tan β$ with heavy higgsinos is preferred. In the case of universal slepton masses, the low mass regions with $m_{\tildeμ}\lesssim 230$ GeV can explain the $g-2$ anomaly while satisfying the LHC constraints. Furthermore, we checked that the stau-bino coannihilation works properly to realize the bino thermal relic dark matter. We also investigate heavy staus case for the bino-dominated scenario, where the parameter region that can explain the muon $g-2$ anomaly is stretched to $m_{\tildeμ}\lesssim 1.3$ TeV.
We discuss if the resonance recently observed by CMS can be responsible for the deviation of the experimentally measured muon anomalous magnetic moment from the theoretical prediction.
We consider the scenario of composite Higgs with partial compositeness to address the muon g-2 anomaly. We show that this anomaly is resolved by one-loop correction due to composite muon partners with mass scale of order TeVs and large Yukawa coupling to composite Higgs, which is different from interpretations of vectorlike lepton models. We present parameter space by imposing indirect constraints from precise measurements on Higgs, Z and oblique electroweak parameters. We analyze direct constraints in light of both Drell-Yan and Higgs-associated productions of the composite muon partners at h…
We point out that heavy new physics contributions in leptonic dipole moments and high-energy cross-sections of lepton pairs into Higgs bosons and photons are connected model-independently. In particular, we demonstrate that a muon collider, running at center-of-mass energies of several TeV, can provide a unique test of new physics in the muon g-2 through the study of high-energy processes such as mu+ mu- -> h gamma. This high-energy test would be of the utmost importance to shed light on the long-standing muon g-2 anomaly as it is not affected by the hadronic and experimental uncertainties ent…
One of the major motivations to search for a dark gauge boson of MeV-GeV scale is the long-standing muon g-2 anomaly. Because of active searches such as fixed target experiments and rare meson decays, the muon g-2 favored parameter region has been rapidly reduced. With the most recent data, it is practically excluded now in the popular dark photon model. We overview the issue and investigate a potentially alternative model based on the gauged lepton number or U(1)_L. The muon g-2 favored parameter region of the U(1)_L survives all the constraints that were critical in the dark photon case, yet…
Once all the sleptons as well as the Bino are observed at the ILC, the Bino contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment (muon $g-2$) in supersymmetric (SUSY) models can be reconstructed. Motivated by the recently confirmed muon $g-2$ anomaly, we examine the reconstruction accuracy at the ILC with $\sqrt{s}$ = 500 GeV. For this purpose, measurements of stau parameters are important. We quantitatively study the determination of the mass and mixing parameters of the staus at the ILC. Furthermore, we discuss the implication of the stau study to the reconstruction of the SUSY contribu…
The long-standing muon $g-2$ anomaly has been confirmed recently at the Fermilab. The combined discrepancy from Fermilab and Brookhaven results shows a difference from the theory at a significance of 4.2 $σ$. In addition, the LHC has updated the lower mass bound of a pure wino. In this letter, we study to what extent the $g-2$ can be explained in anomaly mediation scenarios, where the pure wino is the dominant dark matter component. To this end, we derive some model-independent constraints on the particle spectra and $g-2$. We find that the $g-2$ explanation at the 1$σ$ level is driven into a …
There is more than 3 sigma deviation between the experimental and theoretical results of the muon g-2. This suggests that some of the SUSY particles have a mass of order 100 GeV. We study searches for those particles at the LHC with particular attention to the muon g-2. In particular, the recent results on the searches for the non-colored SUSY particles are investigated in the parameter region where the muon g-2 is explained. The analysis is independent of details of the SUSY models. Future prospects of the collider searches are also discussed.
The deviation of the measured value of the muon anomalous magnetic moment from the standard model prediction can be completely explained by mixing of the muon with extra vectorlike leptons, L and E, near the electroweak scale. This mixing simultaneously contributes to the muon mass. We show that the correlation between contributions to the muon mass and muon g-2 is controlled by the mass of the neutrino originating from the doublet L. Positive correlation, simultaneously explaining both measured values, requires this mass below 200 GeV. The decay rate of the Higgs boson to muon pairs is modifi…
A simple model for the explanation of the muon anomalous magnetic moment was proposed by the present authors within the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard model [1607.05705, 1608.06618]: "Higgs-anomaly mediation". In the setup, squarks, sleptons, and gauginos are massless at tree-level, but the Higgs doublets get large negative soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking masses squared $m_{H_u}^2 \simeq m_{H_d}^2 < 0$ at a certain energy scale, $M_{\rm inp}$. The sfermion masses are radiatively generated by anomaly mediation and Higgs-loop effects, and gaugino masses are solely determined b…
Supersymmetric models with sub-TeV charginos and sleptons have been a candidate for the origin of the long-standing discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2). By gathering all the available LHC Run 2 results, we investigate the latest LHC constraints on models that explain the anomaly by their chargino contribution to the muon g-2. It is shown that the parameter regions where sleptons are lighter than charginos are strongly disfavored. In contrast, we find that the models with $m_{\tildeμ_{\mathrm L}}\gtrsim m_{{\tildeχ}^{\pm}_1}$ are still widely allowed, where the lighter charg…
We study the possibility to determine the supersymmetric (SUSY) contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment by using ILC measurements of the properties of superparticles. Assuming that the contribution is as large as the current discrepancy between the result of the Brookhaven E821 experiment and the standard-model prediction, we discuss how and how accurately the SUSY contribution can be reconstructed. We will show that, in a sample point, the reconstruction can be performed with the accuracy of ~ 13 % with the center-of-mass energy 500 GeV and the integrated luminosity ~ 500-10…
We propose a scenario where only the Higgs multiplets have direct couplings to a supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking sector. The standard model matter multiplets as well as the gauge multiples are sequestered from the SUSY breaking sector; therefore, their masses arise via anomaly mediation at the high energy scale with a gravitino mass of $\sim$100 TeV. Due to renormalization group running effects from the Higgs soft masses, the masses of the third generation sfermions become O(10) TeV at the low energy scale, while the first and second generation sfermion masses are O(0.1-1) TeV, avoiding the tach…
The new measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of muon at the Fermilab Muon $g-2$ experiment has strengthened the significance of the discrepancy between the standard model prediction and the experimental observation from the BNL measurement. If new physics responsible for the muon $g-2$ anomaly is supersymmetric, one should consider how to obtain light electroweakinos and sleptons in a systematic way. The gauge coupling unification allows a robust prediction of the gaugino masses, indicating that the electroweakinos can be much lighter than the gluino if anomaly-mediated supersymmetry b…
The discrepancy between the measured value and the Standard Model prediction for the muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the important issues in the particle physics. In this paper, we consider a two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) where the extra Higgs doublet couples to muon and tau in lepton flavor violating (LFV) way and the one-loop correction involving the scalars largely contributes to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The couplings should be sizable to explain the discrepancy, so that the extra Higgs bosons would dominantly decay into $μτ$ LFV modes, which makes the model testable at…
The longstanding muon g-2 anomaly may indicate the existence of new particles that couple to muons, which could either be light (< GeV) and weakly coupled, or heavy (>> 100 GeV) with large couplings. If light new states are responsible, upcoming intensity frontier experiments will discover further evidence of new physics. However, if heavy particles are responsible, many candidates are beyond the reach of existing colliders. We show that, if the g-2 anomaly is confirmed and no explanation is found at low-energy experiments, a high-energy muon collider program is guaranteed to make fundamental …
Motivated by two experimental facts, the muon g-2 anomaly and the observed Higgs boson mass around 125 GeV, we propose a simple model of anomaly mediation, which can be seen as a generalization of mixed modulus-anomaly mediation. In our model, the discrepancy of the muon g-2 and the Higgs boson mass around 125 GeV are easily accommodated. The required mass splitting between the strongly and weakly interacting SUSY particles are naturally achieved by the contribution from anomaly mediation. This model is easily consistent with SU(5) or SO(10) grand unified theory.
This mini review aims to outline the main experimental and theoretical results related with the search for a new light vector boson proposed as a solution of the muon $g-2$ anomaly. Additionally, I consider a model with infinite number of light vector bosons which can explain the anomaly, while still remaining consistent with current experimental bounds.
We construct models with minimal field content that can simultaneously explain the muon g-2 anomaly and give the correct dark matter relic abundance. These models fall into two general classes, whether or not the new fields couple to the Higgs. For the general structure of models without new Higgs couplings, we provide analytical expressions that only depend on the $SU(2)_L$ representation. These results allow to demonstrate that only few models in this class can simultaneously explain $(g-2)_μ$ and account for the relic abundance. The experimental constraints and perturbativity considerations…
We consider isosinglet scalar extension of a model with a Higgs democracy - multihiggs extension of the SM where each quark and lepton has its own Higgs isodoublet. The addition of light isosinglet scalar allows to solve both muon $g_μ-2$ anomaly and dark matter problem. Also we point out that an extension of the model with $L_μ - L_τ$ vector interaction allows not only explain muon $g_μ - 2$ anomaly but also dark matter density.
In this work, we study the long-standing experimental anomaly in muon $(g-2)$ and also recent anomalous excess in $K_L\to π^0+ν\barν$ at the J-PARC KOTO experiment with sgoldstino. After supersymmetry breaking, the interactions between quarks and sgoldstino ($s$) make the decays $K\to π+s$ sizable through loop diagrams, which affects the measurements of decays $K\to π+\mathrm{invisible}$. Furthermore, the couplings between photons and sgoldstino contribute to $Δa_μ$ as well as the bino-slepton contribution. With satisfying all known experimental constraints such as from NA62, E949, E137, Orsay…
Leptoquark (LQ) models can be the solution to the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly because of the chiral enhancements. In this work, we consider the models extended by the LQ and vector-like quark (VLQ) simultaneously, which can be used to explain the anomaly because of the top quark and top partner (denoted as $T$) mixing. For the one LQ and one VLQ extended models, there are contributions from the top and $T$ quark. In the minimal LQ models, only the $R_2$ and $S_1$ representations can lead to the chiral enhancements. Here, we find one new $S_3$ solution to the anomaly in the presence of $(X,T,B)_{L,R}$ tr…
The hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment can be estimated by computing constituent quark loops. Such an estimate is very sensitive to the numerical values of the constituent quark masses. These can be fixed by computing the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon magnetic anomaly within the same model. In this Letter, we demonstrate the stability of this framework against first-order perturbative QCD corrections.
We explore a simple model containing two singlet scalars as dark matter supplemented with a vector-like lepton. Evading collider and dark matter constraints, the model is able to accommodate the correct dark matter relic abundance and the muon g-2 anomaly when the masses of the three new fields are around 100 GeV and the values of the minimum amount of required couplings are order one.
In the L_μ - L_τ model the 3.6$σ$ discrepancy between the predicted and measured values of the anomalous magnetic moment of positive muons can be explained by the existence of a new dark boson Z' with a mass in the sub-GeV range, which is coupled at tree level predominantly to the second and third lepton generations. However, at the one-loop level, the Z' coupling to electrons or quarks can be induced via the γ-Z' kinetic mixing, which is generated through the loop involving the muon and tau lepton. This loophole has important experimental consequences since it opens up new possibilities, in p…
We present models of new physics that can explain the muon g-2 anomaly in accord with with the assumption that the only scalar existing at the weak scale is the Higgs, as suggested by anthropic selection. Such models are dubbed "charged see-saw" because the muon mass term is mediated by heavy leptons. The electroweak contribution to the g-2 gets modified by order one factors, giving an anomaly of the same order as the observed hint, which is strongly correlated with a modification of the Higgs coupling to the muon.
The LHCb measurements of the $μ/ e$ ratio in $B \to K \ell \ell$ decays $(R_{K^{}})$ indicate a deficit with respect to the Standard Model prediction, supporting earlier hints of lepton universality violation observed in the $R_{K^{(*)}}$ ratio. Possible explanations of these $B$-physics anomalies include heavy $Z'$ bosons or scalar and vector leptoquarks mediating $b \to s μ^+ μ^- $. We note that a muon collider can directly measure this process via $μ^+ μ^- \to b \bar s$ and can shed light on the lepton non-universality scenario. Investigating currently discussed center-of-mass energies $\sq…
Neutrinos from STORed Muons (nuSTORM; formerly VLENF) is a proposed experiment to use 3.8 GeV/c muon decay to produce a well-understood beam of electron and muon neutrinos that can be used for short baseline physics. A magnetized far detector allows for the wrong-sign muon appearance physics of electron-neutrino to muon-neutrino. This channel is the CPT of the LSND anomaly and provides 10 sigma sensitivity to the anomaly. This note contains a detailed explanation of the nSTORM appearance analysis that was included in the Letter of Intent.
The ATLAS and CMS collaborations recently reported indication of a Higgs boson around 125 GeV. If we add extra vector-like quarks to the MSSM, such a relatively heavy Higgs can be naturally realized in the GMSB framework, simultaneously explaining the muon g-2 anomaly. I will discuss LHC prospects of this attractive model.
We present a model explaining both the 4.2 $σ$ muon $g-2$ anomaly and the relic density of dark matter (DM) in which DM interacts with the Standard Model (SM) via a scalar portal boson $φ$ carrying both dark and SM leptonic numbers, and mediating a nondiagonal interaction between the electron and muon that allows $e \leftrightarrow μ$ transitions. The $φ$ could be produced in high-energy electron scattering off a target nuclei in the reaction $e Z \to μZφ$ followed by the prompt invisible decay $φ~\to$~DM particles and searched for in events with large missing energy accompanied by a single ou…
We investigate a two Higgs doublet model with extra flavour depending $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry where $Z'$ boson interactions can explain the Atomki anomaly by choosing appropriate charge assignment for the SM fermions. For parameter region explaining the Atomki anomaly we obtain light scalar boson with $\mathcal{O}(10)$ GeV mass, and we explore scalar sector to search for allowed parameter space. We then discuss anomalous magnetic dipole moment of muon and lepton flavour violating processes induced by Yukawa couplings of our model.
In light of very recent E989 experimental result, we investigate the possibility that heavy sparticles explain the muon g-2 anomaly. We focus on the bino-smuon loop in an effective SUSY scenario, where a light gravitino plays the role of dark matter and other sparticles are heavy. Due to the enhancement of left-right mixing of smuons by heavy higgsinos, the contribution of bino-smuon loop can sizably increase the prediction of muon g-2 to the experimental value. Under collider and vacuum stability constraints, we find that TeV scale bino and smuon can still account for the new muon g-2 anomaly…
In this letter, we show that the wino-Higgsino dark matter (DM) is detectable in near future DM direct detection experiments for almost all consistent parameter space in the spontaneously broken supergravity (SUGRA) if the muon g-2 anomaly is explained by the wino-Higgsino loop diagrams. We also point out that the present and future LHC experiments can exclude or confirm this SUGRA explanation of the observed muon g-2 anomaly.
The muon anomalous magnetic moment exhibits a 3.6 σdiscrepancy between experiment and theory. One explanation requires the existence of a light vector boson, Z_d (the dark Z), with mass 10 - 500 MeV that couples weakly to the electromagnetic current through kinetic mixing. Support for such a solution also comes from astrophysics conjectures regarding the utility of a U(1)_d gauge symmetry in the dark matter sector. In that scenario, we show that mass mixing between the Z_d and ordinary Z boson introduces a new source of "dark" parity violation which is potentially observable in atomic and pola…
We propose to realize (natural) NMSSM spectrum from deflected AMSB with new messenger-matter interactions. With additional messenger-matter interactions involving ${\bf 10}\oplus{\bf \overline{10}}$ representation messengers, the muon g-2 anomaly can be solved at $2σ$ (or $3σ$) level with the corresponding gluino mass range $2.8~{\rm TeV}<m_{\tilde{g}}<5.4~ {\rm TeV}$ (or $2.6 ~{\rm TeV}<m_{\tilde{g}}<7.3~ {\rm TeV}$). Besides, our scenario is fairly natural within which the involved fine tuning can be as low as 47. So, in the framework of AMSB-type scenarios, NMSSM can be advantageous in expl…
In this paper we explore the possibility of explaining the muon $g-2$ anomaly in various types of supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. In particular, we investigate and compare the phenomenological constraints in the MSSM with stable neutralino and the other types of scenarios where the neutralino is unstable. For the latter case we study the Gauge Mediated SUSY Breaking (GMSB) scenario with very light gravitino and the $UDD$-type R-Parity Violating (RPV) scenario. In the MSSM with stable neutralino, the parameter region favoured by the $(g-2)_μ$ is strongly constrained by the neut…
Motivated by the long-standing discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction and the experimental measurement of the muon magnetic dipole moment, we have recently proposed to interpret this muon $g-2$ anomaly in terms of the loop effect induced by a new massive spin-2 field $G$. In the present paper, we investigate the unitarity bounds on this scenario. We calculate the $s$-wave projected amplitudes for two-body elastic scatterings of charged leptons and photons mediated by $G$ at high energies for all possible initial and final helicity states. By imposing the condition of the perturbativ…
We propose a SUSY scenario to explain the current electron and muon $g-2$ discrepancies without introducing lepton flavor mixings. Threshold corrections to the Yukawa couplings can enhance the electron $g-2$ and flip the sign of the SUSY contributions. The mechanism predicts a flavor-dependent slepton mass spectrum. We show that it is compatible with the Higgs mediation scenario.
A theoretical description of the $g$ factor of a muon bound in a nuclear potential is presented. One-loop self-energy and multi-loop vacuum polarization corrections are calculated, taking into account the interaction with the binding potential exactly. Nuclear effects on the bound-muon $g$ factor are also evaluated. We put forward the measurement of the bound-muon $g$ factor via the continuous Stern-Gerlach effect as an independent means to determine the free muons magnetic moment anomaly and mass. The scheme presented enables to increase the accuracy of the mass by more than an order of magni…
The mixing of new vectorlike leptons with leptons in the standard model can generate flavor violating couplings of $h$, $W$ and $Z$ between heavy and light leptons. Focusing on the couplings of the muon, the partial decay width of $h\to e_4^\pm μ^\mp$, where $e_4$ is the new lepton, can be significant when this process is kinematically allowed. Subsequent decays $e_4^\pm \to Zμ^\pm$ and $e_4^\pm \to W^\pm ν$ lead to the same final states as $h \to ZZ^* \to Z μ^+μ^-$ and $h \to WW^* \to W μν$, thus possibly affecting measurements of these processes. We calculate $h\to e_4 \ell_i \to Z\ell_i\ell…
Probing hidden sectors with a muon beam: implication of spin-0 dark matter mediators for muon $(g-2)$ anomaly and validity of the Weiszäcker-Williams approach
Minimal gauged U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ models can provide for an additional source for the muon anomalous magnetic moment however it is difficult to accommodate the discrepancy in the electron magnetic moment in tandem. Owing to the relative sign between the discrepancies in these quantities, it seems unlikely that they arise from the same source. We show that a supersymmetric (SUSY) gauged U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model can accommodate both the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments in a very simple and intuitive scenario, without utilizing lepton flavor violation. The currently allowed parameter spac…
The MUonE experiment aims at a precision measurement of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon $g-2$, via elastic muon-electron scattering. Since the current muon $g-2$ anomaly hints at the potential existence of new physics (NP) related to the muon, the question then arises as to whether the measurement of hadronic vacuum polarization in MUonE could be affected by the same NP as well. In this work, we address this question by investigating a variety of NP explanations of the muon $g-2$ anomaly via either vector or scalar mediators with either flavor-universal, non-universal…
