Supersymmetric models with sub-TeV charginos and sleptons have been a candidate for the origin of the long-standing discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2). By gathering all the available LHC Run 2 results, we investigate the latest LHC constraints on models that explain the anomaly by their chargino contribution to the muon g-2. It is shown that the parameter regions where sleptons are lighter than charginos are strongly disfavored. In contrast, we find that the models with $m_{\tildeμ_{\mathrm L}}\gtrsim m_{{\tildeχ}^{\pm}_1}$ are still widely allowed, where the lighter chargino dominantly decays into a W-boson and a neutralino.
We consider the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon $a_μ$, which shows a significant deviation from the Standard Model expectation given the recent measurements at Fermilab and BNL. We focus on Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) with the aim to identify avenues for the upcoming LHC runs and future experiments such as MUonE. To this end, we include radiative effects to $a_μ$ in SMEFT to connect the muon anomaly to potentially interesting searches at the LHC, specifically Higgs decays into muon pairs and such decays with resolved photons. Our investigation shows that similar to resu…
There is more than 3 sigma deviation between the experimental and theoretical results of the muon g-2. This suggests that some of the SUSY particles have a mass of order 100 GeV. We study searches for those particles at the LHC with particular attention to the muon g-2. In particular, the recent results on the searches for the non-colored SUSY particles are investigated in the parameter region where the muon g-2 is explained. The analysis is independent of details of the SUSY models. Future prospects of the collider searches are also discussed.

Dilepton production in proton-proton collision through $γγ$-fusion with one proton scattered elastically while the second produces a hadron jet is considered. Semi-analytical formulas describing the cross section of a muon pair production are presented.
The LHC copiously produces muons via different processes, and the muon sample will be large at the high-luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). In this work we propose to leverage this large muon sample and utilize the HL-LHC as a muon fixed-target experiment, with the ATLAS calorimeter as the target. We consider a novel analysis for the ATLAS detector, which takes advantage of the two independent muon momentum measurements by the inner detector and the muon system. We show that a comparison of the two measurements, before and after the calorimeters, can probe new force carriers that are coupled to muons and…
We study the possibility to determine the supersymmetric (SUSY) contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment by using ILC measurements of the properties of superparticles. Assuming that the contribution is as large as the current discrepancy between the result of the Brookhaven E821 experiment and the standard-model prediction, we discuss how and how accurately the SUSY contribution can be reconstructed. We will show that, in a sample point, the reconstruction can be performed with the accuracy of ~ 13 % with the center-of-mass energy 500 GeV and the integrated luminosity ~ 500-10…
The discrepancy between the measured value and the Standard Model prediction for the muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the important issues in the particle physics. In this paper, we consider a two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) where the extra Higgs doublet couples to muon and tau in lepton flavor violating (LFV) way and the one-loop correction involving the scalars largely contributes to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The couplings should be sizable to explain the discrepancy, so that the extra Higgs bosons would dominantly decay into $μτ$ LFV modes, which makes the model testable at…
We propose a novel possibility to detect a very distinctive signal with more than four muons originating from pair-produced vector-like leptons decaying to a muon-philic $Z^\prime$ boson. These new particles are good candidates to explain the anomalies in the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the $b\to s\ell\ell$ processes. The doublet (singlet) vector-like leptons lighter than 1.3 (1.0) TeV are excluded by the latest data at the LHC if $\mathrm{BR}(E\to Z^\prime μ) = 1$. We also show that the excess in the signal region with more than five leptons can be explained by this scenario if the vec…
In this paper, we consider phenomenology of a model with an $L_μ-L_τ$ gauge symmetry. Since the muon couples to the $L_μ-L_τ$ gauge boson (called $Z''$ boson), its contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment (muon g-2) can account for the discrepancy between the standard model prediction and the experimental measurements. On the other hand, the $Z''$ boson does not interact with the electron and quarks, and hence there are no strong constraints from collider experiments even if the $Z''$ boson mass is of the order of the electroweak scale. We show an allowed region of a parameter space …
Precision electroweak tests are a powerful probe of physics beyond the Standard Model, but the sensitivity is limited by the precision with which the $W$ boson mass ($M_W$) has been measured. The Parton Distribution Function (PDF) uncertainties are a potential limitation for measurements of $M_W$ with LHC data. It has recently been pointed out that, thanks to LHCb's unique forward rapidity acceptance, a new measurement of $M_W$ by LHCb can improve this situation. Here we report on a detailed study on the mechanism driving the PDF uncertainty in the LHCb measurement of $M_W$, and propose an app…
We study the interplay between a soft muon Yukawa coupling generated radiatively with the trilinear A-terms of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. In the absence of a tree-level muon Yukawa coupling the lightest smuon mass is predicted to be in the range between 750 GeV and 2700 GeV at 2 sigma, if the bino mass M_1 is below 1 TeV. Therefore, a detection of a smuon (in conjunction with a sub-TeV bino) at the LHC would directly imply a non-zero muon Yukawa coupling in the MSSM superpotential. Inclusion of slepton flavor mixing could in …
We study the excesses of $R(D^{(*)})$ and muon $g-2$ in the framework of a two-Higgs-doublet model with top quark flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) couplings. Considering the relevant theoretical and experimental constraints, we find that the $R(D^{(*)})$ and muon $g-2$ excesses can be simultaneously explained in a parameter space allowed by the constraints. In such a parameter space the pseudoscalar ($A$) has a mass between 20 GeV and 150 GeV so that it can be produced from the top quark FCNC decay $t\to A c$. Focusing on its dominant decay $A\to τ\barτ$, we perform a detailed simulation…
The Fermilab Muon $g-2$ collaboration recently announced the first result of measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment ($g-2$), which confirmed the previous result at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and thus the discrepancy with its Standard Model prediction. We revisit low-scale supersymmetric models that are naturally capable to solve the muon $g-2$ anomaly, focusing on two distinct scenarios: chargino-contribution dominated and pure-bino-contribution dominated scenarios. It is shown that the slepton pair-production searches have excluded broad parameter spaces for both two scenar…
A color octet isodoublet can have esoteric origins and it complies with minimal flavour violation. In this study, we take a scenario where the well known Type-X Two-Higgs doublet model is augmented with a color octet isodoublet. We shed light on how such a setup can predict the recently observed value for the $W$-boson mass. We also evaluate the two-loop Barr-Zee contributions to muon $g-2$ stemming from the colored scalars. The parameter space compatible with the observed muon $g-2$ gets relaxed w.r.t. what it is in the pure Type-X 2HDM by virtue of the contribution from the colored scalars. …
A possibility to observe TeV-scale gravity signals at the LHC is discussed. The ADD scenario with large extra dimensions is considered and its LHC discovery potential is derived studying by muon pairs with large invariant masses.
The long-standing difference between the experimental measurement and the standard-model prediction for the muon's anomalous magnetic moment, $a_μ = (g_μ-2)/2$, may be explained by the presence of new weakly interacting particles with masses of a few 100 GeV. Particles of this kind can generally be directly produced at the LHC, and thus they may already be constrained by existing data. In this work, we investigate this connection between $a_μ$ and the LHC in a model-independent approach, by introducing one or two new fields beyond the standard model with spin and weak isospin up to one. For ea…
The muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment (MDM) is calculated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). In this paper, we discuss how the muon MDM depends on the parameters in MSSM in detail. We show that the contribution of the superparticle-loop becomes significant especially when $\tanβ$ is large. Numerically, it becomes $O(10^{-8}-10^{-9})$ in a wide parameter space, which is within the reach of the new Brookhaven E821 experiment.
This article reviews the current theoretical and experimental status of the field of muon decay and its potential to search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The importance of rare muon processes with lepton flavor violation is highly stressed, together with precision measurements of normal muon decay. Recent up-to-date motivations of lepton flavor violation based on supersymmetric models, in particular supersymmetric grand unified theories, are described along with other theoretical models. Future prospects of experiments and muon sources of high intensity for further progress in thi…
We discuss the model independent parameterization for a strongly interacting electroweak sector. Phenomenological studies are made to probe such a sector for future colliders such as the LHC, $e^+e^-$ Linear collider and a muon collider.
More than $3σ$ deviations from the standard model are observed in the angular observable $P'_5$ of $B\to K^* μ^+ μ^-$ and muon $g-2$. To resolve these anomalies, we extend the standard model by adding two leptoquarks. It is found that the signal strength of the diphoton Higgs decay can exhibit a significant deviation from unity and is within the data errors. Although $\ell_i \to \ell_j γ$ puts severe bounds on some couplings, it is found that the excesses of $P'_5$ and muon $g-2$ can still be explained and can be accommodated to the measurement of $B_s\to μ^+ μ^-$ in this model. In addition, t…
We consider the possibility that the muon g-2 anomaly, $δ(g-2)$, finds its origins in low energy supersymmetry (SUSY). In the general MSSM the parameter space consistent with $δ(g-2)$ and correct dark matter relic density of the lightest neutralino easily evades the present direct LHC limits on sparticle masses and also lies to a large extent beyond future LHC sensitivity. The situation is quite different in GUT-defined scenarios where input SUSY parameters are no longer independent. We analyze to what extent the LHC can probe a broad class of GUT-inspired SUSY models with gaugino non-universa…
The discovery at the LHC of a scalar particle with properties that are so far consistent with the SM Higgs boson is one of the most important advances in the history of particle physics. The challenge of future collider experiments is to determine whether its couplings will show deviations from the SM Higgs, as this would indicate new physics at the TeV scale, and also to probe the flavor structure of the Yukawa couplings. As a benchmark alternative to the SM Higgs, we consider a generic two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) and analyze the precision to which the LHC14, an ILC250, 500, 1000 GeV and a…
The long-standing discrepancy between the experimental determination by the Muon $g-2$ Collaboration at Brookhaven and the Standard Model predictions for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon cannot be explained within simple unified framework like the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, but it can within its extension with vector-like fermions. In this paper we consider a model with an additional vector-like $5+\bar{5}$ pair of $SU(5)$. Within this model we first identify its parameter space that is consistent with the current discrepancy and show that this implies the ligh…
Minimal gauged U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ models can provide for an additional source for the muon anomalous magnetic moment however it is difficult to accommodate the discrepancy in the electron magnetic moment in tandem. Owing to the relative sign between the discrepancies in these quantities, it seems unlikely that they arise from the same source. We show that a supersymmetric (SUSY) gauged U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model can accommodate both the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments in a very simple and intuitive scenario, without utilizing lepton flavor violation. The currently allowed parameter spac…
We report on a two-loop supersymmetric contribution to the magnetic moment (g-2)_mu of the muon which is enhanced by two powers of tan(beta). This contribution arises from a shift in the relation between the muon mass and Yukawa coupling and can increase the supersymmetric contribution to (g-2)_mu sizably. As a result, if the currently observed 3 sigma deviation between the experimental and SM theory value of (g-2)_mu is analyzed within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the derived constraints on the parameter space are modified significantly: If (g-2)_mu is used to determine t…
We study the implications at the LHC for the minimal (least) version of the supersymmetric standard model. In this model supersymmetry is broken by gravity and extra gauge interactions effects, providing a spectrum similar in several aspects to that in natural supersymmetric scenarios. Having the first two generations of sparticles partially decoupled means that any significant signal can only involve gauginos and the third family of sfermions. In practice, the signals are dominated by gluino production with subsequent decays into the stop sector. As we show, for gluino masses below 2300 GeV, …
We present the results of the influence of the minimal supersymmetric standard model extended by an additional Higgs singlet N, with vacuum expectation value $v_N$, on the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. This gives different mass matrices for the charginos and neutralinos, which are taken into account within the relevant penguin diagrams leading to a contribution $Δa_μ$\ to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. We show that a large vacuum expectation value for the Higgs singlet leads to a suppression of the supersymmetric contribution making it difficult to see in an experiment in …
We investigate the LHC discovery potential of R-parity violating supersymmetric models with a right-handed selectron or smuon as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). These LSPs arise naturally in R-parity violating minimal supergravity models. We classify the hadron collider signatures and perform for the first time within these models a detailed signal over background analysis. We develop an inclusive three-lepton search and give prospects for a discovery at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV as well as 14 TeV. There are extensive parameter regions which the LHC can already test with 7 T…
We study here the di-muon decay mode of a very light CP-odd Higgs boson of the NMSSM, a1, produced in association with a bottom-antibottom pair and find that, despite small event rates, a significant signal should be extractable from the SM background at the LHC with high luminosity.
The effective supersymmetric theory (ESUSY) with R parity conservation cannot give a large anomalous magnetic moment of $μ$. It is pointed out that the flavor conservation and a large $(g-2)_μ$ within the experimental limits are achievable in the ESUSY with R parity violating couplings involving the third generation superparticles.
In this paper we explore the possibility of explaining the muon $g-2$ anomaly in various types of supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. In particular, we investigate and compare the phenomenological constraints in the MSSM with stable neutralino and the other types of scenarios where the neutralino is unstable. For the latter case we study the Gauge Mediated SUSY Breaking (GMSB) scenario with very light gravitino and the $UDD$-type R-Parity Violating (RPV) scenario. In the MSSM with stable neutralino, the parameter region favoured by the $(g-2)_μ$ is strongly constrained by the neut…
We consider B3 mSUGRA models where we have one lepton number violating LQD operator at the GUT scale. This can alter the supersymmetric mass spectrum leading to a sneutrino as the lightest supersymmetric particle in a large region of parameter space. We take into account the restrictions from neutrino masses, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, b -> s gamma and other precision measurements. We furthermore investigate existing restrictions from direct searches at LEP, the Tevatron and the CERN p\bar p collider. We then give examples for characteristic signatures at the LHC.
We investigate whether the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with the scalar masses of the third generation distinct from the first two, in order to be able to accommodate the muon anomalous magnetic moment, is consistent with the latest results from LHCb, direct collider bounds from the ATLAS and CMS experiments. In particular, we show that this class of models allows for satisfying both the constraints from the muon $(g-2)_μ$ experiment and various bounds from the LHC. In addition, such models can also explain the observed dark matter relic density.
We propose the novel lepton-number relationship $L_τ= L_e + L_μ$, which is uniquely realized by the interaction $(\hat ν_e \hat μ- \hat e \hat ν_μ) \hat τ^c$ in supersymmetry and may account for a possibly large muon anomalous magnetic moment. Neutrino masses (with bimaximal mixing) may be generated from the spontaneous and soft breaking of this lepton symmetry.
For the purpose of minimizing the number of sample model evaluations, we propose and study algorithms that utilize (sequential) versions of likelihood-to-evidence ratio neural estimation. We apply our algorithms to a supersymmetric interpretation of the anomalous muon magnetic dipole moment in the context of a phenomenological minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, and recover non-trivial models in an experimentally-constrained theory space. Finally we summarize further potential possible uses of these algorithms in future studies.
We revisit the current LHC constraints on the electroweak-ino sector parameters in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) that are relevant to explaining the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly via the dominant chargino and muon sneutrino loop. Since the LHC bounds on electroweak-inos become weaker if they decay via an intermediate stau or a tau sneutrino instead of the first two generation sleptons, we perform a detailed analysis of the scenario with a bino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a light stau as the next-to-lightest one (NLSP). Even in this scenario, the chargino sector par…
We consider L-violating Supersymmetric Models to explain the recent muon $g_μ -2$ deviation from the Standard Model. The order of trilinear L-violating couplings which we require also generate neutrino mass which is somewhat higher than expected unless one considers highly suppressed $L-R$ mixing of sfermions. However, without such fine tuning for sfermions it is possible to get appropriate muon $g_μ-2$ deviation as well as neutrino mass if one considers some horizontal symmetry for the lepton doublet. Our studies show that $g_μ -2$ deviation may not imply upper bound of about 500 GeV on masse…
The ATLAS and CMS collaborations recently reported indication of a Higgs boson around 125 GeV. If we add extra vector-like quarks to the MSSM, such a relatively heavy Higgs can be naturally realized in the GMSB framework, simultaneously explaining the muon g-2 anomaly. I will discuss LHC prospects of this attractive model.
We analyze the decays to muons of a light dilaton produced via vector boson fusion at the LHC. We investigate models in which the electroweak symmetry breaking is triggered by a spontaneously broken, approximately conformal sector. Taking into account the possibility of shifts in the dilaton Yukawa couplings to muons, we find a rather promising scenario for the conformal model search in the channel, with the possibility for a dilaton discovery at a delivered luminosity of 100 fb-1 at the LHC or, alternatively, for an extension of the exclusion zone in the model parameter space, until now fixed…
We study the effect of the Higgs-exchange diagram for the lepton flavor violating muon-electron conversion process in nuclei in the supersymmetric seesaw model. The contribution is significant for a large value of tan beta and a small value of a neutral heavy Higgs boson mass, in which case the ratio of the branching ratios of B(mu N -> e N) / B(mu -> e gamma) is enhanced. We also show that the target atom dependence of the conversion branching ratio provides information on the size of the Higgs exchange diagram.
We study the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment in supersymmetric theories. The impact of the recent Brookhaven E821 experimental measurement on both model-independent and model-dependent supersymmetric parameter spaces is discussed in detail. We find that values of tanβas low as 3 can be obtained while remaining within the E821 one-sigma bound. This requires a light smuon; however, we show that, somewhat surprisingly, no model-independent bound can be placed on the mass of the lightest chargino for any tanβgreater than or equal to 3. We also show that the maximum contributions to the anoma…
The present work investigates the possibility that both dark matter and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon may be explained within the context of the inverse seesaw extended Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (ISS-NMSSM). In ISS-NMSSM, the newly introduced Higgs-neutrino Yukawa coupling $Y_ν$ provides additional Higgsino-sneutrino loop contribution to $(g-2)_μ$. If the deviation between the experimental observations and the Standard Model predictions of the anomalous muon magnetic moment is confirmed by the further experimental and theoretical studies, it can be explained nat…
We perform a quantitative analysis of the decays of $cc\bar c\bar c$ tetraquarks with $J^{PC}=0^{++}, 2^{++}$ into 4 muons and into hidden- and open-charm mesons and estimate, for the first time, the fully charmed tetraquark decay width. The calculated cross section upper limit is $\sim 40$ fb for the 4 muons channel, and $\sim 28$ nb for the $D^{(*)} \bar D^{(*)} \to eμ$ channel. On the basis of our results, with the present sensitivity LHCb should detect both signals, for $0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ fully-charmed tetraquarks.
We present a new way to define and compute the maximum significance achievable for signal and background processes at the LHC, using all available phase space information. As an example, we show that a light Higgs boson produced in weak--boson fusion with a subsequent decay into muons can be extracted from the backgrounds. The method, aimed at phenomenological studies, can be incorporated in parton--level event generators and accommodate parametric descriptions of detector effects for selected observables.
We study the muon anomalous magnetic moment (muon g-2) and the Higgs boson mass in a simple extension of the minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) Standard Model with extra vector-like matters, in the frameworks of gauge mediated SUSY breaking (GMSB) models and gravity mediation (mSUGRA) models. It is shown that the deviation of the muon g-2 and a relatively heavy Higgs boson can be simultaneously explained in large tan-beta region. (i) In GMSB models, the Higgs mass can be more than 135 GeV (130 GeV) in the region where muon g-2 is consistent with the experimental value at the 2 sigma (1 sigma) level…
A scenario augmenting the well known Type-X Two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) with an additional inert doublet is proposed. The Type-X 2HDM is known to offer a solution to the muon $g-2$ anomaly for a light pseudoscalar. We show that the proposed framework can accomodate a heavier pseudoscalar on account of two-loop Barr-Zee (BZ) contributions to muon $g-2$ stemming from the inert doublet. We subsequently explore an interesting $τ^+τ^- + $ missing transverse energy signal that can be used to probe the present scenario at the 14 TeV LHC.
We present a detailed and complete calculation of the doubly charged Higgsino contribution to the decays mu--> e photon and mu--> 3e and to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon within the left-right supersymmetric model. We include the mixing of the scalar partners of the left and right handed leptons, and show that it leads to a strong enhancement of the decay modes in certain scenarios. We find that the contribution of the doubly charged Higgsino can be close to the known experimental values and are reachable by future experiments.
The prediction for the quartic coupling of the SM-like Higgs boson constrains the parameter space of SUSY models, even in scenarios where all of the new-particle masses are above the scale probed so far by the LHC. We study the implications of the Higgs-mass prediction on a recently-proposed SUSY model that features two pairs of Higgs doublets, and provides a solution to the g-2 anomaly thanks to a suitable enhancement of the muon Yukawa coupling.
We attribute deviations of the muon and electron magnetic moments from the theoretical predictions to the presence of an additional $U(1)^\prime$ supersymmetric model. We interpret the discrepancies between the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments to be due to the presence of non-universal $U(1)^\prime$ charges. In a minimally extended model, we show that requiring both deviations to be satisfied imposes constraints on the spectrum of the model, in particular on dark matter candidates and slepton masses and ordering. Choosing three benchmarks with distinct dark matter features, we stud…
Recent results of two interesting classes of supersymmetric two-loop contributions to (g-2)_mu are presented. Two-loop diagrams involving a closed sfermion loop can amount to 5*10^{-10} or almost one standard deviation of the current experimental uncertainty, and two-loop diagrams with a closed chargino/neutralino loop can be similarly large. The dependence of these two classes on the unknown supersymmetric parameters and the sensitivity on existing experimental constraints on the parameter space are quite different. We also comment on the calculational techniques, in particular the large mass…
With an eye toward the precision physics of the LHC, FCC-ee and possible high energy muon colliders, we present the extension of the CEEX (coherent exclusive exponentiation) realization of the YFS approach to resummation in our KK MC to include the processes f\bar{f}\rightarrow f'\bar{f'}, f=μ,τ, q,ν_\ell, f'=e, μ,τ, q, ν_\ell, q=u,d,s,c,b,t, \ell =e,μ,τwith f \ne f'. After giving a brief summary of the CEEX theory with reference to the older EEX (exclusive exponentiation) theory, we illustrate theoretical results relevant to the LHC, FCC-ee, and possible muon collider physics programs.
We present the upgrade of the coherent exclusive (CEEX) exponentiation realization of the Yennie-Frautschi-Suura (YFS) theory used in our Monte Carlo ({\cal KK} MC) to the processes f\bar{f}\rightarrow f'\bar{f'}, f=μ,τ,q,ν_\ell, f'=e,μ,τ,q,ν_\ell, q=u,d,s,c,b,t, \ell=e,μ,τwith f\ne f', with an eye toward the precision physics of the LHC and possible high energy muon colliders. We give a brief summary of the CEEX theory in comparison to the older (EEX) exclusive exponentiation theory and illustrate theoretical results relevant to the LHC and possible muon collider physics programs.
The muon transverse polarization in the $K^+ \leftarrow π^0 μ^+ ν_μ$ decay will be measured at the $10^{-4}$ level in forthcoming experiments. We compare the phenomenological perspectives with the theoretical predictions in supersymmetric extensions of the standard model. In the minimal extension, CP-violating phases lead to a non-zero transverse polarization, that however is too small to account for a positive experimental signal. The problems that one encounters when departing from minimal assumptions are discussed. An observable effect is possible if the hypothesis of R-parity conservation …
We summarize the status of various supersymmetric models in view of the existing LHC data. A particular focus is on the implications of the measured Higgs mass on these models which gives important constraints. We consider here minimal and non-mininal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model.
