We explore a missing-partner model based on the minimal SU(5) gauge group with $\bf{75}$, $\bf{50}$ and $\bf{\overline{50}}$ Higgs representations, assuming a super-GUT CMSSM scenario in which soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters are universal at some high scale $M_{\rm in}$ above the GUT scale $M_{\rm GUT}$. We identify regions of parameter space that are consistent with the cosmological dark matter density, the measured Higgs mass and the experimental lower limit on $τ(p \to K^+ ν)$. These constraints can be satisfied simultaneously along stop coannihilation strips in the super-GUT CMSSM with $\tan β\sim 3.5 - 5$ where the input gaugino mass $m_{1/2} \sim 15 - 25$~TeV, corresponding after strong renormalization by the large GUT Higgs representations between $M_{\rm in}$ and $M_{\rm GUT}$ to $m_{\rm LSP}, m_{\tilde t_1} \sim 2.5 - 5$~TeV and $m_{\tilde g} \sim 13 - 20$~TeV, with the light-flavor squarks significantly heavier. We find that $τ(p \to K^+ ν) \lesssim 3 \times 10^{34}$~yrs throughout the allowed range of parameter space, within the range of the next generation of searches with the JUNO, DUNE and Hyper-Kamiokande experiments.
The extended supersymmetric SO(10) model with missing partner mechanism is studied. An intermediate vacuum expectation value is incorporated which corresponds to the see-saw scale. Gauge coupling unification is not broken explicitly. Proton decay is found to satisfy the present experimental limits at the cost of fine-tuning some parameters.
We give a missing partner model using 24-plet instead of 75-plet to break the SU(5) symmetry. Fermion masses and mixing are generated through the Georgi-Jarlskog mechanism. The model is constructed at renormalizable level at very high energy. The perturbative region is extended for the unification gauge coupling. Constrains by proton decay is also satisfied.
We discuss a potential new probe of supersymmetric physics. In particular, we discuss the possibility of measuring hard supersymmetry violation which occurs at one loop through "super-oblique" corrections to the gauge and gaugino propagators. In models with heavy scalar partners, or with many gauge-charged particles which participate in supersymmetry breaking, these effects can be substantial due to logarithmic and multiplicity factor enhancements.
The Peccei-Quinn symmetric extension of the missing-partner model in the supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified model is consistent with the observed stability of the proton, even in the large $\tanβ$ region ($\simeq 50-60$) expected from the Yukawa unification. Moreover, the SU(5) gauge coupling constant remains small enough for the perturbative description of GUT's below the gravitational scale.
The gaugino mass relations $m_3/{g_3^2} = m_2/{g_2^2} = m_1/{g_1^2}$ are considered to be robust signals for supersymmetric grand unification. In this letter, we point out that these relations may be significantly modified in an interesting class of models which solve the doublet-triplet splitting problem using a missing partner mechanism together with a strong hypercolor gauge group. The observation of non-unified gaugino masses, together with unified sfermion masses, provides a distinctive signature for these models.
We present a new possibility for achieving doublet-triplet splitting naturally in supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theories. It is based on a missing partner mechanism which is realized with the 126 + 126-bar Higgs superfields. These Higgs fields, which are also needed for generating Majorana right-handed neutrino masses, contain a pair of color triplets in excess of weak doublets. This feature enables us to remove the color triplets from the low energy spectrum without fine-tuning. We give all the needed ingredients for a successful implementation of the missing partner mechanism in SO(10)…
We construct a missing-partner model for supersymmetric SU(5) GUT assuming the Peccei-Quinn symmetry, in which the SU(5) gauge coupling constant remains in the perturbative regime below the gravitational scale $\sim2.4\times 10^{18}\GEV$. The Peccei-Quinn symmetry suppresses the dangerous dimension-five operators for the nucleon decay much below the limit from the present proton-decay experiments. We also stress that due to this suppression mechanism our model can accommodate even the large $\tanβ_H$ ($\sim$ 60) scenario which has been recently suggested to explain the observed value of the $m…
Supersymmetric extensions of the standard model lead us to expect superpartners for all particles, spin-0 squarks and sleptons and spin-1/2 gluinos, charginos and neutralinos, with an odd R-parity making the lightest one stable. The electroweak breaking is induced by a pair of spin-0 doublets, leading to several charged and neutral BE-Higgs bosons. These theories also lead to gauge/Higgs unification by providing spin-0 bosons as extra states for spin-1 gauge bosons within massive gauge multiplets. In particular, the 125 GeV boson recently observed at CERN, most likely a BE-Higgs boson associat…
An unconventional version of supersymmetry leads to the following highly testable predictions: (1) The Higgs boson has an R-parity of -1, so it can only be produced as one member of a pair of superpartners. (2) The only superpartners are scalar bosons, so neutralinos etc. do not exist. (3) The most likely candidate for cold dark matter is therefore a sneutrino. (4) The Higgs and other bosonic superpartners have an unconventional equation of motion. These predictions are associated with new interpretations of Yukawa couplings, supersymmetry, gauge fields, and Lorentz invariance.
We present a new class of unified SO(10) models where the GUT symmetry breaking down to the standard model gauge group involves just one scale, in contrast to the conventional SO(10) models which require two scales. Further, the models we discuss possess a natural doublet-triplet splitting via the missing partner mechanism without fine tuning. Such models involve $560+\ov{560}$ pair of heavy Higgs fields along with a set of light fields. The $560+\ov{560}$ are the simplest representations of SO(10) besides the $126+\ov{126}$ which contain an excess of color triplets over $SU(2)_L$ doublets. We…
We discuss the violation of the equality of the gauge coupling and gaugino coupling in the presence of soft supersymmetry breaking. Although this is a hard supersymmetry breaking effect, there are finite contributions to this difference which can be determined as a function of the soft supersymmetry breaking masses. The largest sources of this difference are the "super-oblique" corrections, which can be enhanced by a multiplicity factor and a logarithm of the soft supersymmetry breaking mass. This is to be contrasted to standard oblique corrections to the electroweak sector which decouple for …
In the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the $R$-parity breaking model, we investigate various production processes of the supersymmetric partner at HERA energies. Our emphasis is paid upon the scalar top quark, the partner of top quark, characterized by its lighter mass than the top quark and other scalar quarks in a model. We propose experimentally feasible approaches to search for clean signals of the stop from either its production or decay processes.
We study methods of extracting new physics signals in final states with a top-quark pair plus large missing energy at the LHC. We consider two typical examples of such new physics: pair production of a fermionic top partner (a $T'$ in Little Higgs models for example) and of a scalar top partner (a $\tilde{t}$ in SUSY). With a commonly-adopted discrete symmetry under which non Standard Model particles are odd, the top partner is assumed to decay predominantly to a top quark plus a massive neutral stable particle $A^0$. We focus on the case in which one of the top quarks decays leptonically and …
We consider the supersymmetric inverse seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation within the context of a low energy effective theory where supersymmetry is broken geometrically in an extra dimensional theory. It is shown that the effective scale characterizing the resulting compact supersymmetric spectrum can be as low as 500-600 GeV for moderate values of $\tanβ$. The potentially large neutrino Yukawa couplings, naturally present in inverse seesaw schemes, enhance the Higgs mass and allow the super-partners to be lighter than in compact supersymmetry without neutrino masses. The inverse s…
We present a realistic supersymmetric SU(6) model which implements doublet-triplet splitting by the missing vev mechanism. The model makes use of only the simplest representations, requires no fine tuning of parameters and maintains coupling constant unification as a prediction. Fermion masses also emerge in a very straightforward manner. This is the first time that the missing vev mechanism has been realized in the context of SU(6).
Supersymmetric extensions of the standard model lead to gauge/BE-Higgs unification by providing spin-0 bosons as extra states for spin-1 gauge bosons within massive gauge multiplets. They may be described by the spin-0 components of massive gauge superfields (instead of chiral superfields as usual). In particular, the 125 GeV boson observed at CERN, considered as a BEH boson associated with electroweak breaking and mass generation, may also be interpreted, up to a mixing angle induced by supersymmetry breaking, as the spin-0 partner of the Z under two supersymmetry transformations, i.e. as a Z…
We consider a particular composite Higgs model which contains SU(3) color octet top partners besides the usually considered triplet representations. Moreover, color singlet top partners are present as well which can in principle serve as dark matter candidates. We investigate the LHC phenomenology of these unusual top partners. Some of these states could be confused with gluinos predicted in supersymmetric models at first glance.
Simplified models are an important tool for the interpretation of searches for new physics at the LHC. They are defined by a small number of new particles together with a specific production and decay pattern. The simplified models adopted in the experimental analyses thus far have been derived from supersymmetric theories, and they have been used to set limits on supersymmetric particle masses. We investigate the applicability of such simplified supersymmetric models to a wider class of new physics scenarios, in particular those with same-spin Standard Model partners. We focus on the pair pro…
In the Supersymmetric SU(5) Model of Unification with the Missing Partner Mechanism, we present a renormalizable model using the Georgi-Jarlsog mechanism to describe the fermion masses and mixing. At the meantime the proton decay rates are also suppressed to satisfy the experimental data.
We calculate the event rates for the Standard Model production of two photons plus missing mass through the process electron positron to gamma gamma nu nubar, where nu is any of the three neutrino flavors, at LEP energies. This process can be a background to new physics signatures, such as that expected from supersymmetry with a higgsino or gravitino LSP. The missing mass distribution is presented for several sets of kinematic cuts at beam energies of 161, 172, 184, and 194 GeV. The effect of initial state photon radiation is also studied, and is found to be significant, approximately doubling…
We investigate early discovery signals for supersymmetry at the Large Hadron Collider without using information about missing transverse energy. Instead we use cuts on the number of jets and isolated leptons (electrons and/or muons). We work with minimal supersymmetric extensions of the standard model, and focus on phenomenological models that give a relic density of dark matter compatible with the WMAP measurements. An important model property for early discovery is the presence of light sleptons, and we find that for an integrated luminosity of only 200--300 pb$^{-1}$ at a center-of-mass ene…
We perform a detailed study of top-quark partner production in the ttbar plus large missing energy final-state at the LHC, presenting results for both scalar and fermionic top-quark partners in the semi-leptonic and dileptonic decay modes of the top quarks. We compare the results of several simulation tools: leading-order matrix elements, next-to-leading order matrix elements, leading-order plus parton shower simulations, and merged samples that contain the signal process with an additional hard jet radiated. We find that predictions from leading-order plus parton shower simulations can signif…
Two of the most important parameters in supersymmetry are the masses of the stop and sbottom, the supersymmetric partners of the third generation quarks. A stop mass lighter than 1 TeV is favored theoretically, however, conventional searches based on the simplified models have not produced experimental evidence for a light stop. It is possible that the light stop evades our searches due to a compressed sparticle mass spectrum. Therefore, the searches are extended to cover a broader range of signal scenarios with different mass splittings between the stop, neutralino(s), and chargino(s). The se…
The high-lying mesons in the light quark sector previously obtained from the partial wave analysis of the proton-antiproton annihilation in flight at 1.9 - 2.4 GeV region at CERN reveal a very high degree of degeneracy. This degeneracy can be explained as due to an effective restoration of both SU(2)_L * SU(2)_R and U(1)_A symmetries combined with a principal quantum number n + J. In this case there must be chiral partners for the highest spin states in the 2 and 2.3 GeV bands presently missing in the data. Here we reanalyze the Crystal Barrel data and show an indication for existence of the m…
We re-examine the stop co-annihilation scenario of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, wherein a bino-like lightest supersymmetric particle has a thermal relic density set by co-annihilations with a scalar partner of the top quark in the early universe. We concentrate on the case where only the top partner sector is relevant for the cosmology, and other particles are heavy. We discuss the cosmology with focus on low energy parameters and an emphasis on the implications of the measured Higgs boson mass and its properties. We find that the irreducible direct detection signal correlated wi…
The $\eegg$ event reported recently by the CDF Collaboration has been interpreted as a signal of supersymmetry in several recent papers. In this article, we report on an alternative non-supersymmetric interpretation of the event using an extension of the standard model which contains new physics at the electroweak scale that does not effect the existing precision electroweak data. We extend the standard model by including an extra sequential generation of fermions, heavy right-handed neutrinos for all generations and an extra singly charged SU(2)-singlet Higgs boson. We discuss possible ways t…
The CDF experiment reported a lepton photon missing transverse energy (E_T) signal 3 sigma in excess of the Standard Model prediction in Tevatron Run I data. The excess can be explained by the resonant production of a smuon, which subsequently decays to a muon, a photon and a gravitino. Here, we perform combined fits of this model to the CDF gamma lepton missing E_T excess, the D0 measurement of the same channel and the CDF photon missing E_T channel. Although the rates of the latter two analyses are in agreement with the Standard Model prediction, our model is in good agreement with these dat…
Composite Higgs models with a fermionic UV completion can contain additional colored states beside the usual top-partners. We focus here on a model which contains in addition SU(3) color octet top partners as well as color singlet ones. The latter can in principle serve as a dark matter candidate. We consider a particular composite Higgs model which contains SU(3) color octet top partners besides the usually considered triplet representations. Moreover, color singlet top partners are present as well which can in principle serve as dark matter candidates. We investigate the LHC phenomenology of…
The photon plus missing energy signature is a primary handle on two important classes of theories. Theories with large extra dimensions predict the production of photons in association with Kaluza-Klein excitations of the graviton. In supersymmetric theories with superlight gravitinos, photons can be produced in association with gravitino pairs. The signatures for these two theories are compared, and it is found that they can be distinguished by studying the photon energy distributions and scaling of the cross section with center-of-mass energy. Both these methods fail, however, if there are s…
We have analyzed the single $\eegg + \slashchar{E}_T$ event at CDF and found that the expected rate and kinematics are consistent with selectron pair production. We consider two classes of general low-energy supersymmetric theories, where either the lightest neutralino (``neutralino LSP'' scenario) or the gravitino (``light gravitino'' scenario) is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The parameter space of the supersymmetric Lagrangian is tightly constrained by the kinematics of the event and the branching ratios for the necessary decay chain of the selectron. We identify a region of the par…
Supersymmetric models with extended electroweak gauge groups have the potential to enhance the Higgs quartic interaction through nondecoupling D-terms. We consider the D-term enhancement effect in a vector top partner model, where the quadratic divergence to the Higgs mass from the virtual top quark is canceled by its corresponding spin-1 superpartners. We are going to show that the model can predict a Higgs mass beyond the LEP bound, and is consistent with the precision electroweak constraints.
Gluinos are expected to be one of the most massive sparticles (supersymmetric partners of usual particles) which constitute the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The gluinos are the partners of the gluons and they are color octet fermions, due this fact they can not mix with the other particles. Therefore in several scenarios, given at SPS convention, they are the most massive particles and their nature is a Majorana fermion. Therefore their production is only feasible at a very energetic machine such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Being the fermion partners of the gluons, the…
New physics close to the electroweak scale is well motivated by a number of theoretical arguments. However, colliders, most notably the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), have failed to deliver evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. One possibility for how new electroweak-scale particles could have evaded detection so far is if they carry only electroweak charge, i.e. are color neutral. Future $e^+e^-$ colliders are prime tools to study such new physics. Here, we investigate the sensitivity of $e^+e^-$ colliders to scalar partners of the charged leptons, known as sleptons in supersymmetric …
The recent excess over the Standard Model prediction in the μγmissing-E_T channel reported by CDF can be well-explained by resonant smuon production with a single dominant R-parity violating coupling λ'_{211}, in the context of models where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The slepton decays to the lightest neutralino and a muon followed by neutralino decaying to a gravitino and photon. The kinematical distributions are fitted well by our hypothesis and we use them to constrain the available parameter space. The model also provides an explanation for the eeγγmissing-E_T e…
We point out that the axino predicted as the supersymmetric partner of the axion is a good candidate for the recently proposed sterile neutrino cool dark matter. The axino mass falls into the right range in the context of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking. A sizable mixing of the axino with active neutrinos arises when R-parity violation is allowed and the resulting neutrino masses and mixing accommodate the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations simultaneously.
The left-right twin Higgs model contains a new vector-like heavy top quark, which mixes with the SM-like top quark. In this work, we studied the single vector-like top partner production via process $e^{-}γ\rightarrow ν_{e}\bar{T}b$ at the International Linear Collider. We calculated the production cross section at tree level and displayed the relevant differential distributions. The result shows that there will be 125 events produced each year with $\sqrt{s}$=2TeV and the integrated luminosity $\mathcal L_{int}\simeq 500fb^{-1}$, and the b-quark tagging and the relevant missing energy $\met$ …
We outline a general strategy for measuring spins, couplings and mixing angles in the case of a heavy partner decay chain terminating in an invisible particle. We consider the common example of a new scalar or fermion D decaying sequentially to other new particles C, B and A by emitting a quark jet j and two leptons ln and lf. We derive analytic formulas for the dilepton {ln,lf} and the two jet-lepton ({j,ln} and {j,lf}) invariant mass distributions for most general couplings and mixing angles of the new partners. We then consider various spin assignments for the particles A, B, C and D, and d…
The CDF and D0 collaborations have both reported unusual events in the dilepton+jets sample with very high lepton and missing transverse energies. It is possible, but very unlikely, that these events originate from top quark pair production; however, they have characteristics that are better accounted for by decays of supersymmetric quarks with mass in the region of 300 GeV: $\widetilde q \to q \widetilde χ$, $\widetildeχ\to ν\widetilde\ell$, $\widetilde\ell\rightarrow \ell \widetilde χ_1^0$. Such a supersymmetric origin also leads to events with large transverse missing energy and either 0, 1…
The Standard Model may be included within a supersymmetric theory, postulating new sparticles that differ by half-a-unit of spin from their standard model partners, and by a new quantum number called R-parity. The lightest one, usually a neutralino, is expected to be stable and a possible candidate for dark matter. The electroweak breaking requires two doublets, leading to several charged and neutral Brout- Englert-Higgs bosons. This also leads to gauge/Higgs unification by providing extra spin-0 partners for the spin-1 W$^\pm$ and Z. It offers the possibility to view, up to a mixing angle, th…
We study how the exotic particles and supersymmetric partners would affect the discovery limit at the Tevatron and LHC for neutral gauge bosons in generic E_6 models. We examine the Z' decay in the extreme case that all of the particles are massless, then consider how the masses of non-standard model particles will affect the discovery limit. We also calculate the discovery limit for a supersymmetric E_6 model with a secluded sector as a concrete example of a model with a definite set of exotic particles. Its discovery limit is small compared with other E_6 models due to the U'(1) charge assig…
Searches for supersymmetric partner particles of the top and bottom quarks at the Large Hadron Collider are reviewed. The focus is on the status of searches for a relatively light partner of the top quark performed by the CMS and ATLAS Collaborations. No excess beyond Standard Model expectations is observed and exclusion limits are set on the masses of supersymmetric particles.
We study the collider signatures of the left-right twin Higgs model in the case that the right-handed neutrino mass is less than the mass of the right-handed gauge boson. In this scenario, new leptonic decay chains open up, allowing the particles which cancel the one-loop quadratic divergences of the Higgs, the right-handed gauge bosons and top-partners, to be discovered. Half of these events contain same-sign leptons without missing energy, which have no genuine standard model background and for which the backgrounds are purely instrumental. These signals may be used to complement other colli…
In this paper we summarize the minimal supersymmetric standard model as well as the renormalization group equations of its parameters. We proceed to examine the feasability of the model when the breaking of supersymmetry is parametrized by the soft terms suggested by supergravity theories. In such models, the electroweak symmetry is exact at tree level and is broken spontaneously at one loop order. We make the additional assumption that the GUT-inspired relation $m_b=m_τ$ be valid at the scale where the gauge coupling constants unify, which constrains the value of the top quark mass. For all t…
We compute the full set of weak-scale gauge and Yukawa threshold corrections in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, including all finite (non-logarithmic) corrections, which we show to be important. We use our results to examine the effects of unification-scale threshold corrections in the minimal and missing-doublet SU(5) models. We work in the context of a unified mass spectrum, with scalar mass M_0 and gaugino mass M_1/2, and find that in minimal SU(5) with squark masses less than one TeV, successful gauge and Yukawa coupling unification requires M_1/2 << M_0 and M_0 \simeq 1 TeV. In…
We consider the spin determination of new colored particles in the missing energy plus jets channel at the early stage of LHC. We use a three site moose model to describe the low energy Lagrangian of all same spin partner (LHT or UED like) models and check the gauge invariance of the amplitude. For the benchmark production and decay channel $pp \rightarrow U^{(R)} U^{(R)} \rightarrow u u B_H B_H$, in contrast to those in supersymmetric models, there are spin correlations which affect the polar and azimuthal angle distributions of the quarks from the heavy partner $U^{(R)}$ decay. We show such …
We examine scenarios in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM), where pair-produced squarks and gluinos decay via two cascades, each ending in a stable neutralino as Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP) and a Standard Model (SM)-like Higgs boson, with mass spectra such that the missing transverse energy, $E_{T}^{\text{miss}}$, is very small. Performing two-dimensional parameter scans and focusing on the hadronic $H\rightarrow b\bar{b}$ decay giving a $b\bar{b}b\bar{b} + E_{T}^{\text{miss}}$ final state we explore the sensitivity of a current LHC general-purpose jets+$E_{T}…
We calculate the high and low scale threshold corrections to the D=6 proton decay mode in supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories with higher-dimensional representation Higgs multiplets. In particular, we focus on a missing-partner model in which the grand unified group is spontaneously broken by the 75-dimensional Higgs multiplet and the doublet-triplet splitting problem is solved. We find that in the missing-partner model the D=6 proton decay rate gets suppressed by about 60%, mainly due to the threshold effect at the GUT scale, while the SUSY-scale threshold corrections are found to be …
There is strong evidence from cosmological data that the universe underwent an epoch of superluminal expansion called inflation. A satisfactory embedding of inflation in fundamental physics has been an outstanding problem at the interface of cosmology and high energy physics. We show how inflation can be realized within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The inflaton candidates are two specific combinations of supersymmetric partners of quarks and leptons. MSSM inflation occurs at a low scale and generates perturbations in the range experimentally allowed by the latest data from…
In the context of the supersymmetric flipped $SU(5)\otimes U(1)$ GUT model, we have studied in detail the neutrino mass spectrum, obtaining an approximate formula for the corresponding effective three-generation mass matrix. It is found that at least two neutrinos are expected to have extremely small masses of no particular interest. The third neutrino, on the other hand, may eventually get a mass of order $10^{-3}$ eV, of relevance for the solution of the solar neutrino problem with the MSW mechanism, as a consequence of vacuum-expectation-values at the GUT mass scale for some of the scalar p…
Hadron collider signatures of new physics are investigated in which a primary resonance is produced that decays to a secondary resonance by emitting a W-boson, with the secondary resonance decaying to two jets. This topology can arise in supersymmetric theories with R-parity violation where the lightest supersymmetric particles are either a pair of squarks, or a slepton - sneutrino pair. The resulting signal can have a cross section consistent with the Wjj observation reported by the CDF collaboration, while remaining consistent with earlier constraints. Other observables that can be used to c…
The anomalous gauge $U(1)_A$ symmetry which could emerge in the context of the string theories can be very useful ingredient towards builting the complete supersymmetric SO(10) model. We present an example of the $SO(10)\times U(1)_A$ model which provides the ``all order'' solution to the doublet-triplet splitting problem via the missing VEV mechanism -- the Planck scale corrections only can induce the mu-term naturally of order 1 TeV. An interesting feature of this model is that all relevant GUT scale VEVs are defined by the single dimensional parameter in the Higgs superpotential, so that th…
We suggest that non-trivial correlations between the dark matter particle mass and collider based probes of missing transverse energy H_T^miss may facilitate a two tiered approach to the initial discovery of supersymmetry and the subsequent reconstruction of the LSP mass at the LHC. These correlations are demonstrated via extensive Monte Carlo simulation of seventeen benchmark models, each sampled at five distinct LHC center-of-mass beam energies, spanning the parameter space of No-Scale F-SU(5).This construction is defined in turn by the union of the Flipped SU(5) Grand Unified Theory, two pa…
