There is strong evidence from cosmological data that the universe underwent an epoch of superluminal expansion called inflation. A satisfactory embedding of inflation in fundamental physics has been an outstanding problem at the interface of cosmology and high energy physics. We show how inflation can be realized within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The inflaton candidates are two specific combinations of supersymmetric partners of quarks and leptons. MSSM inflation occurs at a low scale and generates perturbations in the range experimentally allowed by the latest data from Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). The parameter space for inflation is compatible with supersymmetric dark matter, and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is capable of discovering the inflaton candidates in the allowed regions of parameter space.
We explore the possibility that a multiple-stage inflationary scenario based on supersymmetric GUT models, can account for the break at $k_b \simeq 0.05 h/Mpc$ in the power spectrum of galaxy clustering, while it reproduces the angular power spectrum of cosmic microwave background anisotropies.
Dynamical models of inflation are given with composite inflatons by means of massive supersymmetric gauge theory. Nearly flat directions and stable massive ones in the potential are identified and slow-roll during inflation is examined. This kind of dynamical inflations may be ubiquitous in fundamental unified theory with supersymmetry, which should contain gauge theories for interactions of elementary particles.
We investigate characteristic features of realistic parameter choice for primordial inflation with supersymmetric Higgs inflaton as an example of particle physics inflation model. We discuss constraints from observational results and analyze the degree of fine tuning needed to induce slow-roll inflation for wide range of soft supersymmetry breaking scale. The observed amplitude of density fluctuations implies that the minimal fine tuning for the combined electroweak scale and inflaton flatness predicts the spectral index of 0.950--0.965, which includes the central value from observational data…
We examine a non-Abelian SUSY $SU(2) \times U(1)$ gauge theory and a SUSY U(1) theory originally used to investigate the microphysics of cosmic strings in supersymmetric theories. We show that both theories automatically include hybrid inflation. In the latter theory we use a $D$ term to break the symmetry. SUSY is broken during inflation and restored afterwards. Cosmic strings are formed at the end of inflation. The temperature anisotropy is calculated and found to vary as $(M_{GUT}/M_P)^2$.
The non-supersymmetric and supersymmetric versions of hybrid inflation are summarized. It is emphasized that supersymmetric hybrid inflation (with its extensions) is an extremely "natural" inflationary scenario since it does not require "tiny" parameters, its superpotential has the most general form allowed by the symmetries, and it can be protected against radiative or supergravity corrections. A concrete supersymmetric grand unified theory which leads to hybrid inflation, solves the mu problem and generates seesaw masses for the light neutrinos is constructed. The "reheating" which follows h…
In this paper we reconsider the supersymmetric hybrid inflation in the context of the braneworld scenario . The observational bounds are satisfied with an inflationary energy scale $μ\simeq 4\times 10^{-4}M_p$, without any fine-tuning of the coupling parameter, provided that the five-dimensional Planck scale is $M_5\stackrel{<}{\sim} 2\times 10^{-3}M_p$ . We have also obtained an upper bound on the the brane tension .
The allowed range of parameters for supersymmetric hybrid inflation and its extensions are investigated. The lower bound on the reheat temperature T_r in these models with hierarchical right handed neutrinos is found to be 3*10^7 GeV. (T_r as low as 100 GeV is possible for quasi degenerate right handed neutrinos.) We also present revised estimates for the scalar spectral index and the symmetry breaking scale associated with inflation.
In this talk, based on \cite{Kane:2001rb}, we emphasise that intermediate scale supersymmetric inflation models are particularly attractive since inflation, baryogenesis and the relic abundance of cold dark matter (CDM) are all related by a set of parameters which also affect particle physics collider phenomena, neutrino masses and the strong CP problem. We also point out that the present day relic abundances of different forms of matter are (in principle) calculable from the supersymmetric inflation model together with a measurement of the CMB temperature and the Hubble constant. From these r…
We propose supersymmetric Majoron inflation in which the Majoron field $Φ$ responsible for generating right-handed neutrino masses may also be suitable for giving low scale "hilltop" inflation, with a discrete lepton number $Z_N$ spontaneously broken at the end of inflation, while avoiding the domain wall problem. In the framework of non-minimal supergravity, we show that a successful spectral index can result with small running together with small tensor modes. We show that a range of heaviest right-handed neutrino masses can be generated, $m_N\sim 10^1-10^{16}$ GeV, consistent with the const…
We address an issue what kind of tuning realizes a flat potential for inflaton in supergravity. We restrict ourselves to the case that inflationary dynamics is not affected by separate supersymmetry-breaking effects, and consider examples of a single chiral superfield as an inflaton with its vacuum of the vanishing cosmological constant. The examples potentially include the cases of Polonyi field or right-handed sneutrino as an inflaton.
We discuss, in the context of a concrete supersymmetric grand unified model based on the Pati-Salam gauge group SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R, two "natural" extensions of supersymmetric hybrid inflation, which avoid the cosmological disaster encountered in the standard hybrid inflationary scenario from the overproduction of monopoles at the end of inflation. Successful "reheating" which satisfies the gravitino constraint takes place after the end of inflation. Also, adequate baryogenesis via a primordial leptogenesis occurs consistently with the solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillation data as…
We consider supersymmetric inflation models in which inflation occurs at an intermediate scale and which provide a solution to the $μ$ problem and the strong CP problem. Such models are particularly attractive since inflation, baryogenesis and the relic abundance of cold dark matter are all related by a set of parameters which also affect particle physics collider phenomena, neutrino masses and the strong CP problem. For such models the natural situation is a universe containing matter composed of baryons, massive neutrinos, lightest superpartner cold dark matter, and axions. The present day r…
A supersymmetric hybrid inflation framework is employed to realize a class of non-minimal inflation models with $U(1)_R \times Z_n$ global symmetry. This framework naturally incorporates models based on grand unified theories by avoiding the most commonly faced monopole problem. The predictions of inflationary observables, the scalar spectral index $n_s = 0.960-0.966$ and the tensor to scalar ratio $r=0.0031-0.0045$, are in perfect agreement with the Planck 2018 data. For sub-Planckian values of the field the $Z_n$ symmetry is only allowed for $n\leq 4$.
We consider supersymmetric inflation with the hybrid-type potential. In the absence of the symmetry that forbids Hubble-induced mass terms, the inflaton mass will be as large as the Hubble scale during inflation. We consider gravitational decay of the trigger field as the least decay mode and find that the damping caused by the dissipation can dominate the friction of the inflaton when the heavy trigger field is coupled to the inflaton. The dissipative damping provides a solution to the traditional $η$ problem without introducing additional symmetry and interactions. Considering the spatial in…
We consider a model of D-term inflation in which the inflaton coincides with the standard Higgs doublet. Non-renormalizable terms are controlled by a discrete R-symmetry of the superpotential. We consider radiative corrections to the scalar potential and find that Higgs inflation in the slow-roll approximation is viable and consistent with CMB data, although with a rather large value of the non-renormalizable coupling involved.
We revisit the implications of the R-invariant New Inflation model to the supersymmetric standard model in light of recent discussion of gravitino production processes by the decay of the inflaton or the supersymmetry breaking field. We show that the models with supergravity mediation do not go well with the R-invariant New Inflation model, where the gravitino abundance produced by the decay of the inflaton or the supersymmetry breaking field significantly exceeds the bounds from cosmological observations without fine-tuning. We also show that the models with gauge mediation can go together wi…
We consider a supersymmetric hybrid inflation scenario in which the U(1) $R$-symmetry is explicitly broken by Planck scale suppressed operators in the superpotential. We provide an example with minimal Kähler potential, with the $R$-symmetry breaking term relevant during inflation being $αS^4$, where $S$ denotes the well-known gauge singlet inflaton superfield. The inflationary potential takes into account the radiative and supergravity corrections, as well as the soft supersymmetry breaking terms. For successful inflation, with the scalar spectral index in the currently preferred range, $n_s …
The nonsupersymmetric as well as the supersymmetric hybrid inflationary model is reviewed. The scenario of baryogenesis via a primordial leptogenesis is discussed and the role of the nonperturbative electroweak sphaleron effects is analyzed. A supersymmetric model based on a left-right symmetric gauge group, which `naturally' leads to hybrid inflation, is presented. The mu problem is solved, in this model, and the baryon asymmetry of the universe is produced through leptogenesis. For masses of nu_mu, nu_tau from the small angle MSW resolution of the solar neutrino problem and SuperKamiokande, …
A detailed investigation of hybrid inflation and the subsequent reheating process is performed within a mu problem solving supersymmetric model based on a left-right symmetric gauge group. The process of baryogenesis via leptogenesis is especially studied. For mu and tau neutrino masses consistent with the small angle MSW resolution of the solar neutrino problem and the recent results of the SuperKamiokande experiment, we show that maximal mu-tau neutrino mixing can be achieved. The required value of the relevant coupling constant is, however, quite small (of the order 10^{-6}).
We present a solution of the mu problem within a supersymmetric model based on the SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R x U(1)_{B-L} gauge group. We show that this solution implies a built-in hybrid inflationary scenario, which may result in a successful baryogenesis via leptogenesis. Baryon number is essentially conserved as a result of an R-symmetry. Neutrinos with mass in the eV range can provide the `hot' dark matter component.
A scheme of simplified smooth hybrid inflation is realized in the framework of supersymmetric $SU(5)$. The smooth model of hybrid inflation provides a natural solution to the monopole problem that appears in the breaking of $SU(5)$ gauge symmetry. The supergravity corrections with nonminimal Kähler potential are shown to play important role in realizing inflation with a red-tilted scalar spectral index $n_s <1$, within Planck's latest bounds. As compared to shifted model of hybrid inflation, relatively large values of the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r \lesssim 0.01$ are achieved here, with nonmini…
We discuss leptogenesis in a realistic supersymmetric model of inflation with a low reheat temperature 1-10 GeV. The lepton asymmetry is generated by a decaying right handed sneutrino, which is produced after inflation during preheating. The inflationary model is based on a simple variant of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard model (NMSSM) which solves the μproblem, called \phiNMSSM, where the additional singlet ϕplays the role of the inflaton in hybrid (or inverted hybrid) type models. The model is invariant under an approximate Peccei-Quinn symmetry which also solves the strong CP p…
We analyze the adjoint field inflation in supersymmetric (SUSY) SU(5) model. In minimal SUSY SU(5) hybrid inflation monopoles are produced at the end of inflation. We therefore explore the non-minimal model of inflation based on SUSY SU(5), like shifted hybrid, which provides a natural solution for the monopole problem. We find that the supergravity corrections with non-minimal Kahler potential are crucial to realize the central value of the scalar spectral index n_s ~ 0.96 consistent with the seven year WMAP data. The tensor to scalar ratio r is quite small, taking on values r < 10^{-5}. Due …
In their minimal form both supersymmetric and smooth hybrid inflation yield a scalar spectral index n_s close to 0.98, to be contrasted with the result n_s=0.951+0.015-0.019 from WMAP3. To realize better agreement, following hep-ph/0604198, we extend the parameter space of these models by employing a non-minimal Kaehler potential. We also discuss non-thermal leptogenesis by inflaton decay and obtain new bounds in these models on the reheat temperature to explain the observed baryon asymmetry.
A supersymmetric model based on a left-right symmetric gauge group is proposed where hybrid inflation, baryogenesis and neutrino oscillations are linked. This scheme, supplemented by a familiar ansatz for the neutrino Dirac masses and mixing of the two heaviest families and with the MSW resolution of the solar neutrino puzzle, implies that $m_{ν_τ}$ lies between 1 and 9 eV. The mixing angle $θ_{μτ}$ is predicted to lie in a narrow range which will be partially tested by the Chorus/Nomad experiment.
We explore a new class of supersymmetric models of inflation where the inflaton is realised as a combination of a Higgs field and (gauge non-singlet) matter fields, using a "tribrid" structure of the superpotential. Inflation is associated with a phase transition around GUT scale energies. The inflationary trajectory already preselects the later vacuum after inflation, which has the advantage of automatically avoiding the production of dangerous topological defects at the end of inflation. While at first sight the models look similar to smooth inflation, they feature a waterfall and are theref…
We propose a variant of hybrid inflation which is applicable in a wide class of supersymmetric grand unified models. The observed temperature perturbations of cosmic background radiation can be reproduced with natural values of the parameters of the theory and a grand unification scale which is consistent with the unification of the minimal supersymmetric standard model gauge couplings as measured at LEP. The termination of inflation is smooth and does not produce any topological defects. Finally, we present a specific supersymmetric model where our smooth hybrid inflationary scenario is reali…
A moderate extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model which includes a U(1)_(B-L) gauge group (B and L being the baryon and lepton number) and a Peccei-Quinn symmetry, U(1)_PQ, is presented. The hybrid inflationary scenario is automatic and `natural' in this model. The mu problem of the minimal supersymmetric standard model is solved by coupling the electroweak higgses to fields which break U(1)_PQ. Baryon number conservation and, thus, proton stability are automatic consequences of a R-symmetry. Neutrinos are assumed to acquire degenerate masses of about 1.5 eV by coupling to SU(2…
A moderate extension of MSSM based on a left-right symmetric gauge group, within which hybrid inflation is `naturally' realized, is discussed. The mu problem is solved via a Peccei-Quinn symmetry. Light neutrinos acquire hierarchical masses by the seesaw mechanism. They are taken from the small angle MSW resolution of the solar neutrino puzzle and the SuperKamiokande data. The range of parameters consistent with maximal nu_mu-nu_tau mixing and the gravitino constraint is determined. The baryon asymmetry of the universe is generated through a primordial leptogenesis. The subrange of parameters,…
We perform a numerical investigation of the fields evolution in the supersymmetric inflationary model based on radiative corrections. Supergravity corrections are also included. We find that, out of all the examined initial data, only about 10% give an adequate amount of inflation and can be considered as ''natural''. Moreover, these successful initial conditions appear scattered and more or less isolated.
We study a leptogenesis scenario in which the heavy Majorana neutrinos are produced non-thermally in inflaton decays in the supersymmetric economical SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X model with inflationary scenario, and for this purpose neutrino masses play the key role. Due to the inflaton with mass in the GUT scale, the model under consideration provides successful neutrino masses, which is different from ones without inflationary scenario. The lepton-number-violating interactions among the inflaton and right-handed neutrinos appear at the one-loop level, and this is a reason for non-thermal lept…
We study the Higgs inflation model realized in the supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theory (GUT), focusing on its multifield dynamics and prediction of cosmological observables. The requirement for GUT symmetry breaking during inflation imposes tight constraints on the model parameters. We find, nevertheless, with an appropriately chosen noncanonical Kahler potential the model is in excellent agreement with the present cosmological observation. The effects from multifield dynamics is found to be minor and thus, unlike other similar supersymmetric implementation of nonminimally coupled Higgs …
We identify models of supersymmetric hybrid inflation in which the tensor-to-scalar ratio, a canonical measure of gravity waves produced during inflation, can be as large as 0.03 or so, which will be tested by the Planck satellite experiment. The scalar spectral index lies within the WMAP one sigma bounds, while $|d n_s / d\ln k| \lesssim 0.01$.
The construction of supersymmetric grand unified models based on the Pati-Salam gauge group and leading to a set of Yukawa quasi-unification conditions is briefly reviewed. For each sign of mu, an appropriately chosen condition from this set can allow an acceptable b-quark mass within the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model. The restrictions on the parameter space which arise from the cold dark matter, b-->s gamma, muon anomalous magnetic moment and collider requirements are also investigated. For mu>0, a wide and natural range of parameters is allowed. On the contrary, the mu<0 …
We construct the supersymmetric economical 3-3-1 model which contains inflationary scenario and avoids the monopole puzzle. Based on the spontaneous symmetry breaking pattern (with three steps), the $F$-term inflation is derived. The slow-roll parameters $\ep$ and $η$ are calculated. By imposing as experimental five-year WMAP data on the spectral index $n$, we have derived a constraint on the number of e-folding $N_Q$ to be in the range from 25 to 50. The scenario for large-scale structure formation implied by the model is a mixed scenario for inflation and cosmic string, and the contribution …
The Standard Model Higgs boson with large nonminimal coupling to the gravitational curvature can drive cosmological inflation. We study this type of inflationary scenario in the context of supersymmetric grand unification and point out that it is naturally implemented in the {\em minimal} supersymmetric SU(5) model, and hence virtually in any GUT models. It is shown that with an appropriate Kähler potential the inflaton trajectory settles down to the Standard Model vacuum at the end of the slow roll. The predicted cosmological parameters are also consistent with the 7-year WMAP data.
We study the back-reaction of moduli fields on the inflaton potential in generic models of F-term inflation. We derive the moduli corrections as a power series in the ratio of Hubble scale and modulus mass. The general result is illustrated with two examples, hybrid inflation and chaotic inflation. We find that in both cases the decoupling of moduli dynamics and inflation requires moduli masses close to the scale of grand unification. For smaller moduli masses the CMB observables are strongly affected.
A scheme of hybrid inflation is considered in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric SU(5) model with an extra singlet. The relevant role of the cubic term in the adjoint representation in the renormalizable superpotential is pointed out in order to have a quite wide region of initial conditions compatible with inflation efficiency, monopole density and perturbations constraint.
We demonstrate the existence of two-field Q-ball solutions of the scalar field equations of supersymmetric D- and F-term hybrid inflation. The solutions consist of a complex inflaton field together with a real symmetry breaking field. Such inflatonic Q-balls may play a fundamental role in reheating and the post-inflation era of supersymmetric hybrid inflation models.
We show that a supersymmetric axion model naturally induces a hybrid inflation with the waterfall field identified as a Peccei-Quinn scalar. The Peccei-Quinn scale is predicted to be around 10^{15}GeV for reproducing the large-scale density perturbation of the Universe. After the built-in late-time entropy-production process, the axion becomes a dark matter candidate. Several cosmological implications are discussed.
In this talk we discuss a model of inflation based on a simple variant of the NMSSM, called $ϕ$NMSSM \cite{phiNMSSM}, where the additional singlet $ϕ$ plays the role of the inflaton in hybrid (or inverted hybrid) type models. As in the original NMSSM, the $ϕ$NMSSM solves the $μ$ problem of the MSSM via the VEV of a gauge singlet $N$, but unlike the NMSSM does not suffer from domain wall problems since the offending $Z_3$ symmetry is replaced by an approximate Peccei-Quinn symmetry which also solves the strong CP problem, and leads to an invisible axion with interesting cosmological consequence…
We propose a new class of inflationary models in which the scalar field potential governing inflation is generated by the same non-perturbative gauge dynamics that may lead to supersymmetry breaking. Such models satisfy constraints from cosmic microwave background measurements for natural values of the fundamental parameters in the theory. In addition, they have two particularly interesting characteristics: a ``blue'' spectrum of scalar perturbations, and an upper bound on the total amount of inflation possible.
We present a dynamical cosmological solution that simultaneously accounts for the early inflationary stage of the Universe and solves the supersymmetric little hierarchy problem via the relaxion mechanism. First, we consider an inflationary potential arising from the $D$-term of a new $U(1)$ gauge symmetry with a Fayet--Iliopolous term, that is independent of the relaxion. A technically natural, small $U(1)$ gauge coupling, $g\lesssim 10^{-8}$, allows for a low Hubble scale of inflation, $H_I\lesssim 10^5$ GeV, which is shown to be consistent with Planck data. This feature is then used to real…
It has been shown that hybrid inflation may end with the formation of non-topological solitons of inflaton field. As a first step towards a fully realistic picture of the post-inflation era and reheating in supersymmetric hybrid inflation models, we study the classical scalar field equations of a supersymmetric hybrid inflation model using a semi-analytical ansatz for the spatial dependence of the fields. Using the minimal D-term inflation model as an example, the inflaton field is evolved using the full 1-loop effective potential from the slow-rolling era to the U(1)_{FI} symmetry-breaking ph…
We show that the smooth hybrid inflation is naturally realized in a framework of supersymmetric axion model. Identifying the Peccei-Quinn scalar fields as a part of the infaton sector, successful inflation takes place reproducing the amplitude and spectral index of the curvature perturbation observed by WMAP. A relatively large axion isocurvature perturbation and its non-Gaussianity are predicted in our model. The saxion coherent oscillation has a large amplitude and dominates the Universe. The subsequent decay of the saxion produces huge amount of entropy, which dilutes unwanted relics. Winos…
Minimal supersymmetric hybrid inflation based on a minimal Kahler potential predicts a spectral index n_s\gsim 0.98. On the other hand, WMAP three year data prefers a central value n_s \approx 0.95. We propose a class of supersymmetric hybrid inflation models based on the same minimal superpotential but with a non-minimal Kahler potential. Including radiative corrections using the one-loop effective potential, we show that the prediction for the spectral index is sensitive to the small non-minimal corrections, and can lead to a significantly red-tilted spectrum, in agreement with WMAP.
We have built a supersymmetric SO(10) model consistent with cosmological observations. The model gives rise to a false vacuum hybrid inflationary scenario which solves the monopole problem. We argue that this type of inflationary scenario is generic in supersymmetric SO(10) model, and arises naturally from the theory. Neither any external field nor any external symmetry has to be added. It can just be a consequence of the theory. In our specific model, at the end of inflation, cosmic strings form. The properties of the strings are presented. The cosmic background radiation anisotropies induced…
We show how hybrid inflation can be successfully realized in a supersymmetric model with gauge group G_{PS}= SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R. By including a non-renormalizable superpotential term, we generate an inflationary valley along which G_{PS} is broken to the standard model gauge group. Thus, catastrophic production of the doubly charged magnetic monopoles, which are predicted by the model, cannot occur at the end of inflation. The results of the cosmic background explorer can be reproduced with natural values (of order 10^{-3}) of the relevant coupling constant, and symmetry breaking scal…
We show how supersymmetric hybrid inflation with scalar spectral index $n_{\rm s}\simeq 0.96 - 0.97$ is realized in the context of quasi-minimal supergravity if we insist that the inflationary potential not exhibit any local minima. We also address the problem of the initial conditions for both monotonic and non-monotonic inflationary potentials.
We propose a topological inflation model in supergravity. In this model, the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a scalar field takes a value much larger than the gravitational scale $M_{G} \simeq 2.4 \times 10^{18}$ GeV, which is large enough to cause topological inflation. On the other hand, expansions of the Kähler potential and the superpotential beyond the gravitational scale are validated by the introduction of a Nambu-Goldstone-like shift symmetry. Thus, topological inflation inevitably takes place in our model.
Motivated by the flavored Peccei-Quinn symmetry for unifying flavor physics and string theory, we investigate a supersymmetric extension of standard model (SM) for an explanation of inflation and leptogenesis by introducing $U(1)$ symmetries such that the $U(1)$-$[gravity]^2$ anomaly-free condition together with the SM flavor structure demands additional sterile neutrinos as well as no axionic domain-wall problem. Such additional neutrinos may play a crucial role as a bridge between leptogenesis and new neutrino oscillations along with high energy cosmic events. In a realistic moduli stabiliza…
We study inflation in a supersymmetric Pati-Salam model driven by a potential generated in the context of no-scale supergravity. The Pati-Salam gauge group $SU(4)_{c}\times{SU(2)_{L}\times{SU(2)_{R}}}$ , is supplemented with a $Z_{2} $ symmetry. Spontaneous breaking via the $SU(4)$ adjoint leads to the left-right symmetric group. Then the $SU(2)_{R}$ breaks at an intermediate scale and the inflaton is a combination of the neutral components of the $SU(2)_{R}$ doublets. We discuss various limits of the parameter space and we show that consistent solutions with the cosmological data for the a sp…
We show that the hybrid inflation is naturally realized in the framework of a supersymmetric axion model, which is consistent with the WMAP observation if the Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking scale is around 10^{15}GeV. By solving the post inflationary scalar dynamics, it is found that the scalar partner of the axion, saxion, oscillates with large amplitude and its decay produces a huge entropy and dilutes the axion. As a result, the axion coherent oscillation can be the dominant component of the dark matter in the Universe. Cosmological gravitino and axino problems are solved.
We examine whether F-term supersymmetric hybrid inflation can be embedded within the minimal SO(10) model, in a natural way. We show that none of the singlets of the Standard Model symmetries in the minimal set of SO(10) representations can satisfy the conditions which are necessary for a scalar field to play the role of the inflaton. As a consequence, one has to introduce an extra scalar field, which however may spoil the naturalness of inflation within the context of SO(10). Nevertheless, if we add an extra scalar field, we are then able to construct a model that can accommodate flat directi…
Motivated by a recent discussion about the role of flat directions, a typical feature of supersymmetric models, in the process of particle production in the early universe a consistent model of inflation and preheating in supergravity with MSSM fields has been built. It is based on a model proposed by M. Kawasaki, M. Yamaguchi and T. Yanagida. In the inflationary stage, the flat directions acquire large vacuum expectation values (VEVs) without spoiling the background of slow-roll, high-scale inflation consistent with the latest WMAP5 observational data. In the stage of particle production, nat…
In a supersymmetric left-right symmetric model, inflation, baryogenesis (via leptogenesis) and neutrino oscillations can become closely linked. A familiar ansatz for the neutrino Dirac masses and mixing of the two heaviest families, together with the MSW resolution of the solar neutrino puzzle, imply that 1 eV <_\sim m_{ν_{τ}<_\sim 9 eV. The predicted range for the mixing angle θ_μτwill be partially tested by the Chorus/Nomad experiment. The CP violating phase δ_{μτ} is also discussed.
We show how successful supersymmetric hybrid inflation is realized in realistic models where the resolution of the minimal supersymmetric standard model mu problem is intimately linked with axion physics. The scalar fields that accompany the axion, such as the saxion, are closely monitored during and after inflation to ensure that the axion isocurvature perturbations lie below the observational limits. The scalar spectral index n_s is about 0.96 - 0.97, while the tensor-to-scalar ratio r, a canonical measure of gravity waves, lies well below the observable range in our example. The axion domai…
We propose a scenario for realizing inflation in the framework of supersymmetric B-L extension of the Standard Model. We find that one of the associated right-handed sneutrinos (the superpartner of the Standard Model singlet fermion) can provide a new non-trivial inflationary trajectory at tree level (therefore breaking B-L during inflation). As soon as the inflation ends, the right-handed sneutrino falls into the supersymmetric vacuum, with a vanishing vacuum expectation value, so that B-L symmetry is restored. In this class of models, the B-L gauge symmetry will be radiatively broken at a Te…
We implement inflation within a realistic supersymmetric SO(10) model in which the doublet-triplet splitting is realized through the Dimopoulos-Wilczek mechanism, the MSSM $μ$ problem is resolved, and higgsino mediated dimension five nucleon decay is heavily suppressed. The cosmologically unwanted topological defects are inflated away, and from $δT/ T$, the $B-L$ breaking scale is estimated to be of order $10^{16}-10^{17}$ GeV. Including supergravity corrections, the scalar spectral index $n_s = 0.99\pm 0.01$, with $|dn_s/ d{\rm ln}k| \lapproxeq 10^{-3}$.
