Hadron collider signatures of new physics are investigated in which a primary resonance is produced that decays to a secondary resonance by emitting a W-boson, with the secondary resonance decaying to two jets. This topology can arise in supersymmetric theories with R-parity violation where the lightest supersymmetric particles are either a pair of squarks, or a slepton - sneutrino pair. The resulting signal can have a cross section consistent with the Wjj observation reported by the CDF collaboration, while remaining consistent with earlier constraints. Other observables that can be used to confirm this scenario include a significant charge asymmetry in the same channel at the LHC. With strongly interacting resonances such as squarks, pair production topologies additionally give rise to 4 jet and WW + 4 jet signatures, each with two equal-mass dijet resonances within the 4 jets.
The search for Top and Bottom Partners is a major focus of analyses at both the ATLAS and CMS experiments. When singly produced, these vector-like partners of the Standard Model third generation quarks retain a sizeable cross-section that makes them attractive search candidates in their respective topologies. While most efforts have concentrated on the resonant mode for single production of these hypothetical particles, the most dominant mode at narrow widths, recent studies have revealed a wide and rich phenomenology involving the non-resonant diagrams. In this letter we categorically investi…
We construct an effective hadronic model including $Λ_c(2595)$, $Λ_c(2625)$, $Λ_b(5912)$ and $Λ_b(5920)$ regarding them as chiral partners to $Σ_c(2455)$, $Σ_c(2520)$, $Σ_b$ and $Σ_b^\ast$, respectively, with respecting the chiral symmetry and heavy-quark spin-flavor symmetry. We determine the model parameters from the experimental data for relevant masses and decay widths of $Σ_c^{(\ast)}$ and $Λ_c(2595)$. Then, we study the decay widths of $Λ_c(2625)$, $Λ_b(5912)$ and $Λ_b(5920)$. We find that, although the decay of $Λ_c(2595)$ is dominated by the resonant contribution through $Σ_c(2455)$, n…
If the Higgs boson $H(125)$ is a composite due to new strong interactions at high energy, it has spin-one partners, $ρ_H$ and $a_H$, analogous to the $ρ$ and $a_1$ mesons of QCD. These bosons are heavy, their mass determined by the strong interaction scale. The strongly interacting particles light enough for $ρ_H$ and $a_H$ to decay to are the longitudinal weak bosons $V_L = W_L,\, Z_L$ and the Higgs boson $H$. These decay signatures are consistent with resonant diboson excesses recently reported near 2 TeV by ATLAS and CMS. We calculate $σ\times BR(ρ_H \to VV) =$ few fb and $σ\times BR(a_H \t…
In our recent paper, we have investigated the potential for the LHC to discover vector-like quark partner states singly produced via their chromomagnetic moment interactions. These production mechanisms extend traditional searches which rely on pair-production of top-quark partner states or on the single production of these states through electroweak interactions, in the sense of providing greatly increased reach in parameter space regions where traditional searches are insensitive. In this study we determine the potential of both the 14 TeV high-luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) and a 100 TeV proton-pr…
Recently, Belle Collaboration has reported a resonant state produced in $B\to K πψ'$, which is called Z(4430). This state is charged, so it can not be interpreted as an ordinary charmonium state. In this paper, we analyze the octet to which this particle belongs and predict the masses of mesons in this octet. Utilizing flavor SU(3) symmetry, we study production rates in several kinds of B decays. The $\bar B^0\to Z_s^-π^+\to K^-ψ'π^+$ and $B^-\to \bar Z_s^0 π^-\to K_Sψ'π^-$ decay channels, favored by Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements, can have branching ratios of ${\cal O}(10^{-5…
Two of the most important parameters in supersymmetry are the masses of the stop and sbottom, the supersymmetric partners of the third generation quarks. A stop mass lighter than 1 TeV is favored theoretically, however, conventional searches based on the simplified models have not produced experimental evidence for a light stop. It is possible that the light stop evades our searches due to a compressed sparticle mass spectrum. Therefore, the searches are extended to cover a broader range of signal scenarios with different mass splittings between the stop, neutralino(s), and chargino(s). The se…
Supersymmetric extensions of the standard model lead to gauge/BE-Higgs unification by providing spin-0 bosons as extra states for spin-1 gauge bosons within massive gauge multiplets. They may be described by the spin-0 components of massive gauge superfields (instead of chiral superfields as usual). In particular, the 125 GeV boson observed at CERN, considered as a BEH boson associated with electroweak breaking and mass generation, may also be interpreted, up to a mixing angle induced by supersymmetry breaking, as the spin-0 partner of the Z under two supersymmetry transformations, i.e. as a Z…
We discuss a potential new probe of supersymmetric physics. In particular, we discuss the possibility of measuring hard supersymmetry violation which occurs at one loop through "super-oblique" corrections to the gauge and gaugino propagators. In models with heavy scalar partners, or with many gauge-charged particles which participate in supersymmetry breaking, these effects can be substantial due to logarithmic and multiplicity factor enhancements.
The extended supersymmetric SO(10) model with missing partner mechanism is studied. An intermediate vacuum expectation value is incorporated which corresponds to the see-saw scale. Gauge coupling unification is not broken explicitly. Proton decay is found to satisfy the present experimental limits at the cost of fine-tuning some parameters.
New physics close to the electroweak scale is well motivated by a number of theoretical arguments. However, colliders, most notably the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), have failed to deliver evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. One possibility for how new electroweak-scale particles could have evaded detection so far is if they carry only electroweak charge, i.e. are color neutral. Future $e^+e^-$ colliders are prime tools to study such new physics. Here, we investigate the sensitivity of $e^+e^-$ colliders to scalar partners of the charged leptons, known as sleptons in supersymmetric …
Models with quark and lepton compositeness predict the existence of colored partners of the Standard Model leptons. In this paper we study the LHC phenomenology of a charged colored lepton partner, namely the color octet electron, $e_8$ in an effective theory framework. We explore various mechanisms for resonant production of $e_8$'s. With the pair production channel the 14 TeV LHC can probe $e_8$'s with masses up to 2.5 TeV (2.8 TeV) with 100 fb$^{-1}$ (300 fb$^{-1}$) of integrated luminosity. A common feature in all the resonant production channels is the presence of two high $p_T$ electrons…
The Peccei-Quinn symmetric extension of the missing-partner model in the supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified model is consistent with the observed stability of the proton, even in the large $\tanβ$ region ($\simeq 50-60$) expected from the Yukawa unification. Moreover, the SU(5) gauge coupling constant remains small enough for the perturbative description of GUT's below the gravitational scale.
Motivated by UV explanations of the $B$-physics anomalies, we study a dark sector containing a Majorana dark matter candidate and a coloured coannihilation partner, connected to the Standard Model predominantly via a $U_1$ vector leptoquark. A TeV scale $U_1$ leptoquark, which couples mostly to third generation fermions, is the only successful single-mediator description of the $B$-physics anomalies. After calculating the dark matter relic surface, we focus on the most promising experimental avenue: LHC searches for the coloured coannihilation partner. We find that the coloured partner hadroni…
The gaugino mass relations $m_3/{g_3^2} = m_2/{g_2^2} = m_1/{g_1^2}$ are considered to be robust signals for supersymmetric grand unification. In this letter, we point out that these relations may be significantly modified in an interesting class of models which solve the doublet-triplet splitting problem using a missing partner mechanism together with a strong hypercolor gauge group. The observation of non-unified gaugino masses, together with unified sfermion masses, provides a distinctive signature for these models.
One-loop contributions of super-partner particles to $W$-pair production at $e^+e^-$ collision are discussed in the MSSM. To obtain trustworthy results we test our calculation using three methods: (1) sum rules among form factors which result from the BRS invariance, (2) the decoupling theorem, (3) the high-energy stability. We examine the corrections taking into account constraints from the direct search experiments and the precision data. The results for the sfermion contributions are presented.
We construct a missing-partner model for supersymmetric SU(5) GUT assuming the Peccei-Quinn symmetry, in which the SU(5) gauge coupling constant remains in the perturbative regime below the gravitational scale $\sim2.4\times 10^{18}\GEV$. The Peccei-Quinn symmetry suppresses the dangerous dimension-five operators for the nucleon decay much below the limit from the present proton-decay experiments. We also stress that due to this suppression mechanism our model can accommodate even the large $\tanβ_H$ ($\sim$ 60) scenario which has been recently suggested to explain the observed value of the $m…
We consider the supersymmetric inverse seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation within the context of a low energy effective theory where supersymmetry is broken geometrically in an extra dimensional theory. It is shown that the effective scale characterizing the resulting compact supersymmetric spectrum can be as low as 500-600 GeV for moderate values of $\tanβ$. The potentially large neutrino Yukawa couplings, naturally present in inverse seesaw schemes, enhance the Higgs mass and allow the super-partners to be lighter than in compact supersymmetry without neutrino masses. The inverse s…
An unconventional version of supersymmetry leads to the following highly testable predictions: (1) The Higgs boson has an R-parity of -1, so it can only be produced as one member of a pair of superpartners. (2) The only superpartners are scalar bosons, so neutralinos etc. do not exist. (3) The most likely candidate for cold dark matter is therefore a sneutrino. (4) The Higgs and other bosonic superpartners have an unconventional equation of motion. These predictions are associated with new interpretations of Yukawa couplings, supersymmetry, gauge fields, and Lorentz invariance.
Supersymmetric extensions of the standard model lead us to expect superpartners for all particles, spin-0 squarks and sleptons and spin-1/2 gluinos, charginos and neutralinos, with an odd R-parity making the lightest one stable. The electroweak breaking is induced by a pair of spin-0 doublets, leading to several charged and neutral BE-Higgs bosons. These theories also lead to gauge/Higgs unification by providing spin-0 bosons as extra states for spin-1 gauge bosons within massive gauge multiplets. In particular, the 125 GeV boson recently observed at CERN, most likely a BE-Higgs boson associat…
The Standard Model may be included within a supersymmetric theory, postulating new sparticles that differ by half-a-unit of spin from their standard model partners, and by a new quantum number called R-parity. The lightest one, usually a neutralino, is expected to be stable and a possible candidate for dark matter. The electroweak breaking requires two doublets, leading to several charged and neutral Brout- Englert-Higgs bosons. This also leads to gauge/Higgs unification by providing extra spin-0 partners for the spin-1 W$^\pm$ and Z. It offers the possibility to view, up to a mixing angle, th…
Searches for supersymmetric partner particles of the top and bottom quarks at the Large Hadron Collider are reviewed. The focus is on the status of searches for a relatively light partner of the top quark performed by the CMS and ATLAS Collaborations. No excess beyond Standard Model expectations is observed and exclusion limits are set on the masses of supersymmetric particles.
LHC searches for fermionic top partners $T$ focus on three decay topologies: $T\to bW$, $T\to tZ$, and $T\to th$. However, top partners may carry new conserved quantum numbers that forbid these decays. The simplest possibility is a conserved parity, under which the top partner is odd and all SM states are even. In this case, decays of top partners may involve new particle-odd scalars, leading to signal topologies more commonly associated with supersymmetry, either with or without R-parity conservation. We study a simplified model in which this possibility is realized, and estimate the bounds o…
Supersymmetric models with extended electroweak gauge groups have the potential to enhance the Higgs quartic interaction through nondecoupling D-terms. We consider the D-term enhancement effect in a vector top partner model, where the quadratic divergence to the Higgs mass from the virtual top quark is canceled by its corresponding spin-1 superpartners. We are going to show that the model can predict a Higgs mass beyond the LEP bound, and is consistent with the precision electroweak constraints.
We discuss the violation of the equality of the gauge coupling and gaugino coupling in the presence of soft supersymmetry breaking. Although this is a hard supersymmetry breaking effect, there are finite contributions to this difference which can be determined as a function of the soft supersymmetry breaking masses. The largest sources of this difference are the "super-oblique" corrections, which can be enhanced by a multiplicity factor and a logarithm of the soft supersymmetry breaking mass. This is to be contrasted to standard oblique corrections to the electroweak sector which decouple for …
We demonstrate that in supersymmetry (SUSY) with relatively light top superpartners, h -> bb can be a very promising channel to discover the SM-like Higgs resonance at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), although in general contexts it is thought to be challenging because of its huge QCD background. In this scenario, the SM-like Higgs boson is mainly produced via cascade decays initiated by pair-produced stop or sbottom squarks. The good sensitivity to h -> bb owes a great deal to the application of multiple (>= 4) b-jet tagging in removing the QCD background, and color-flow variables for reconst…
In scenarios that stabilize the electroweak scale, the top quark is typically accompanied by partner particles. In this work, we demonstrate how extended stabilizing symmetries can yield scalar or fermionic top partners that transform as ordinary color triplets but carry exotic electric charges. We refer to these scenarios as "hypertwisted" since they involve modifications to hypercharge in the top sector. As proofs of principle, we construct two hypertwisted scenarios: a supersymmetric construction with spin-0 top partners, and a composite Higgs construction with spin-1/2 top partners. In bot…
We explore a missing-partner model based on the minimal SU(5) gauge group with $\bf{75}$, $\bf{50}$ and $\bf{\overline{50}}$ Higgs representations, assuming a super-GUT CMSSM scenario in which soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters are universal at some high scale $M_{\rm in}$ above the GUT scale $M_{\rm GUT}$. We identify regions of parameter space that are consistent with the cosmological dark matter density, the measured Higgs mass and the experimental lower limit on $τ(p \to K^+ ν)$. These constraints can be satisfied simultaneously along stop coannihilation strips in the super-GUT CMSSM w…
The assumption of a new symmetry provides a nice explanation of the existence of dark matter and an elegant way to avoid the electroweak constraints. This symmetry often requires the pair production of new particles at colliders and it guarantees that cascade decays down to the lightest particle give rise to missing energy plus jets and leptons. For a long time, supersymmetry with the conserved R-parity was the only candidate for such signals. However, any new physics with this type of new symmetry may show up with similar signals and the discrimination between different models at the LHC is q…
In the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the $R$-parity breaking model, we investigate various production processes of the supersymmetric partner at HERA energies. Our emphasis is paid upon the scalar top quark, the partner of top quark, characterized by its lighter mass than the top quark and other scalar quarks in a model. We propose experimentally feasible approaches to search for clean signals of the stop from either its production or decay processes.
We introduce Super-Resonant Dark Matter, a model of self-interacting dark matter based on the low energy effective theory of supersymmetric QCD. The structure of the theory ensures a resonant enhancement of the self-interactions of the low energy mesons, since their mass ratio is set by the number of colors and flavors. The velocity dependence of the resonantly enhanced self-interactions allows such theories to accommodate puzzles in small scale structure that arise from dark matter halos of different sizes. The dark matter mass is then predicted to be around 3-4 MeV, with its abundance set by…
Simplified models are an important tool for the interpretation of searches for new physics at the LHC. They are defined by a small number of new particles together with a specific production and decay pattern. The simplified models adopted in the experimental analyses thus far have been derived from supersymmetric theories, and they have been used to set limits on supersymmetric particle masses. We investigate the applicability of such simplified supersymmetric models to a wider class of new physics scenarios, in particular those with same-spin Standard Model partners. We focus on the pair pro…
We investigate a simplified model of dark matter where a Majorana fermion $χ$ coannihilates with a colored scalar top partner $\tilde{t}$. We explore the cosmological history, with particular emphasis on the most relevant low-energy parameters: the mass splitting between the dark matter and the coannihilator, and the Yukawa coupling $y_χ$ that connects these fields to the Standard Model top quarks. We also allow a free quartic coupling $λ_h$ between a pair of Higgs bosons and $\tilde{t}$ pairs. We pay special attention to the case where the values take on those expected where $\tilde{t}$ corre…
We study resonant gravitino production in the early Universe in the presence of SUSY flat directions whose large VEVs break some but not all gauge symmetries. We find that for a large region of parameter space the gravitino abundance is several orders of magnitude larger than the cosmological upper bound. Since flat directions with large VEVs are generically expected in supersymmetric theories this result further exacerbates the gravitino problem.
