Studies of neutron stars are at their peak after the multi-messenger observation of the binary merger event GW170817, which strongly constraints the stellar parameters like tidal deformability, masses and radii. Although current and future observations will provide stronger limits on the neutron stars parameters, knowledge of explicit interior solutions to Einstein's equations, which connect observed parameters with the internal structure, are crucial to have a satisfactory description of the interior of these compact objects. A well known exact solution, which has shown a relatively good approximation to a neutron star, is the Tolman VII solution. In order to provide a better fitting for the energy density profile, with the realistic equations of state for neutron stars, recently Jiang and Yagi proposed a modified version of this model which introduces an additional parameter $α$ reflecting the interplay of the quadratic and the newly added quartic term in the energy density profile. Here we study the dynamical stability of this modified Tolman VII solution using the theory of infinitesimal and adiabatic radial oscillations developed by Chandrasekhar. For this purpose, we determine values of the critical adiabatic index, for the onset of instability, considering configurations with varying compactness and $α$. We found that the new models are stable against radial oscillations for a considerable range of values of compactness and the new parameter $α$, thus supporting their applicability as a physically plausible approximation of realistic neutron stars.
Using the gravitational decoupling by the minimal geometric deformation approach, we build an anisotropic version of the well-known Tolman VII solution, determining an exact and physically acceptable interior two-fluid solution that can represent behavior of compact objects. Comparison of the effective density and density of the perfect fluid is demonstrated explicitly. We show that the radial and tangential pressure are different in magnitude giving thus the anisotropy of the modified Tolman VII solution. The dependence of the anisotropy on the coupling constant is also shown.
We systematically examine the compactness of neutron stars as Tolman VII solutions in scalar-tensor theory of gravity. As a result, when the coupling constant is confined to values provided by astronomical observations we show that the maximum compactness of neutron stars in general relativity is higher than that in scalar-tensor gravity. In addition, we show that although ultra-compact stars, with radius smaller than the Regge-Wheeler potential peak, can exist in general relativity (e.g., Tolman VII solution), their scalarized counterparts cannot {be constructed} even in the limiting case of …
The Tolman~VII solution, an exact analytic solution to the spherically symmetric, static Einstein equations with a perfect fluid source, has many characteristics that make it interesting for modelling high density physical astronomical objects. Here we supplement those characteristics with the geometrical tensors that this solution possess, and find that the Weyl, Riemann, and Ricci tensor components show unexpected mathematical behaviour that change depending on physically motivated parameters, even though the mass of the modelled objects is fixed. We show these features firstly through tenso…
Region of trapped null geodesics hidden inside of extremely compact objects is of astrophysical importance because of trapping of gravitational waves, or neutrinos. The trapping effect of null geodesics was extensively studied for spherically symmetric extremely compact objects. Recently, influence of rotation of the extremely compact objects on the trapping of null geodesics was treated in the simplest possible model of internal linearised \mbox{Hartle--Thorne} spacetime with uniform energy density distribution and uniform emissivity distribution of null geodesics. Here we extend the study of…
Extremely compact objects trap gravitational waves or neutrinos, assumed to move along null geodesics in the trapping regions. The trapping of neutrinos was extensively studied for spherically symmetric extremely compact objects constructed under the simplest approximation of the uniform energy density distribution, with radius located under the photosphere of the external spacetime; in addition, uniform emissivity distribution of neutrinos was assumed in these studies. Here we extend the studies of the neutrino trapping for the case of the extremely compact Tolman VII objects representing the…
In this work, we have adopted gravitational decoupling by Minimal Geometric Deformation (MGD) approach and have developed an anisotropic version of well-known Tolman VII isotropic solution in the framework of $f(R, T)$ gravity, where $R$ is Ricci scalar and $T$ is trace of energy momentum tensor. The set of field equations has been developed with respect to total energy momentum tensor, which combines effective energy momentum tensor in $f(R,T)$ gravity and additional source $ϕ_{ij}$. Following MGD approach, the set of field equations has been separated into two sections. One section represent…
In the context of linear $f(\mathcal{R},T)=\mathcal{R}+χT$ gravity, where $\mathcal{R}$ is the Ricci scalar, $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor, and $χ$ is a dimensionless parameter, we have obtained exact analytical and numerical solutions for isotropic perfect-fluid spheres in hydrostatic equilibrium. Our solutions correspond to two-parametric extensions of the Tolman III (T-III) and Tolman VII (T-VII) models, in terms of the compactness $β$ and $χ$. By requiring configurations that exhibit monotonically decreasing radial profiles for both the energy density and pressure, complia…
In this work we develop a simple protocol to construct interior solutions through Gravitational Decoupling by the Minimal Geometric Deformation extended satisfying the vanishing complexity condition. The method is illustrated by using Tolman VII and Tolman IV solutions as isotropic seeds.
This paper aims to analyze the generalization of Lema\^ıtre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) spacetime for dissipative dust under the influence of Palatini $f(R)$ gravity. We explore the modified field equations, kinematical variables, and mass function in this scenario. We construct Bianchi identities using conservation and differential equations for shear, expansion, and curvature scalar in the background of Palatini $f(R)$ gravity. We calculated the scalar functions coming from the orthogonal decomposition of the Riemann tensor in this framework. These scalar functions known as structure scalars have bee…
In this paper we employ Tolman VII solution with exotic matter that may be present in the extremely dense core of compact objects. The Tolman VII solution, an exact analytic solution to the spherically symmetric, static Einstein field equations with a perfect fluid source, has many characteristics that make it interesting for modeling high density stellar astronomical objects. For our purpose we use generalized non-linear equation of state which may incorporate exotic matter along with dust, radiation and dark energy. The equation of state (EoS) has a linear contribution comprising quark/radia…
In this current study, our main focus is to model a specific charged compact star SAX J 1808.4-3658 (M = 0.88 $M_{\odot}$,\, R = 8.9 km) within the realm of $f(R,\,T)$ modified gravity theory using the metric potentials proposed by Tolman-Kuchowicz (Tolman, Phys Rev 55:364, 1939; Kuchowicz Acta Phys Pol 33:541, 1968) and the interior spacetime is matched to the exterior Reissner-Nordström line element at the surface of the star. Tolman-Kuchowicz metric potentials provide a singularity-free solution which satisfies the stability criteria. Here we have used the simplified phenomenological MIT ba…
The Tolman VII solution is considered by some as one of the few analytical solutions to Einstein's equations, which describes approximately well the interior of neutron stars (NSs). This solution is characterized by the mass $M$, radius $R$, and an energy density that varies quadratically with the radial coordinate $r$. Recently, Jiang and Yagi proposed a modification of this solution, the so-called modified Tolman VII (MTVII) solution, by introducing an additional quartic term to the energy density radial profile. The MTVII solution is an approximate solution to Einstein's equation, which inc…
Neutron stars are ideal astrophysical sources to probe general relativity due to their large compactnesses and strong gravitational fields. For example, binary pulsar and gravitational wave observations have placed stringent bounds on certain scalar-tensor theories in which a massless scalar field is coupled to the metric through matter. A remarkable phenomenon of neutron stars in such scalar-tensor theories is spontaneous scalarization, where a normalized scalar charge remains order unity even if the matter-scalar coupling vanishes asymptotically far from the neutron star. While most works on…
We investigate the existence of analytic solutions for the field equations in the Einstein-æther theory for a static spherically symmetric spacetime and provide a detailed dynamical system analysis of the field equations. In particular, we investigate if the gravitational field equations in the Einstein-æther model in the static spherically symmetric spacetime possesses the Painlevè property, so that an analytic explicit integration can be performed. We find that analytic solutions can be presented in terms of Laurent expansion only when the matter source consists of a perfect fluid with linea…
In this article, we studied the behavior of relativistic spherical objects considering Tolman IV spacetime in modified $f(R,\,T)$ gravity for the uncharged perfect fluid matter. We have chosen the matter Lagrangian as $\mathcal{L}_m=-p$ to develop our present model. In particular, for this investigation we have reported for the compact object LMC $X-4$ [Mass=$(1.04 \pm 0.09)M_{\odot}$; Radius= $8.301_{-0.2}^{+0.2}$ Km] in our paper. The effect of the coupling parameter $β$ on the local matter distribution of compact stars has been investigated in this paper. It can be seen that with greater va…
We attempt to study a singularity-free model for the spherically symmetric anisotropic strange stars under Einstein's general theory of relativity by exploiting the Tolman-Kuchowicz metric. Further, we have assumed that the cosmological constant $Λ$ is a scalar variable dependent on the spatial coordinate $r$. To describe the strange star candidates we have considered that they are made of strange quark matter (SQM) distribution, which is assumed to be governed by the MIT bag equation of state. To obtain unknown constants of the stellar system we match the interior Tolman-Kuchowicz metric to t…
This paper is devoted to explore some relativistic configurations of stellar objects for static spherically symmetric structures in the context of modified $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity, by exploiting the Tolman-Kuchowicz spacetime [1,2]. We develop the equations of motion for spherically symmetric spacetime in the presence of anisotropic matter distribution by considering the physically valid expressions of the metric potentials, $ν=Br^2+2lnC$ and $λ=ln(1 + ar^2+br^4)$. To attain the values of the unknown constants we consider the observational data of $Cen~ X-3$, $EXO ~1785-248$ and $LMC~ X-4$ st…
We present Tolman IV spacetime representing compact fluid sphere in bigravity. Here we have explored the effect of scale parameter $k$ in the local matter distribution of compact stars. We have model for three well-known compact stars and it shows that for lower values of $k$ leads to stiffer EoS. This claim is also supported by the graphical analysis. It can be observed that the sound speed and the adiabatic index are more for lower values of $k$. It is also seen that all the solutions of Einstein's field equations are still satisfying the field equations in the presence of a background metri…
The modified gravity (MOG) theory is applied to the gravitational wave binary merger GW190814 to demonstrate that the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation for a neutron star can produce a mass $M=2.6 -2.7 M_\odot$, allowing for the binary secondary component to be identified as a heavy neutron star in the hypothesized mass gap $2.5 - 5 M_\odot$.
The bulk properties of spherically symmetric stars in general relativity can be obtained by integrating the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations. In previous work we developed a "post-TOV" formalism - inspired by parametrized post-Newtonian theory - which allows us to classify in a parametrized, phenomenological form all possible perturbative deviations from the structure of compact stars in general relativity that may be induced by modified gravity at second post-Newtonian order. In this paper we extend the formalism to deal with the stellar exterior, and we compute several potential as…
Seven new solutions to the interior static and spherically symmetric Einstein's field equations (EFE) are found and investigated. These new solutions are a generalisation of the quadratic density fall-off profile of the Tolman VII solution. The generalisation involves the addition of anisotropic pressures and electric charge to the density profile. Of these new solutions three are found to obey all the necessary conditions of physical acceptability, including linear stability under radial perturbations, and causality of the speed of pressure waves inside the object. Additionally an equation of…

Recent observations of neutron stars (NS) with radio, X-rays and gravitational waves have begun to constrain the equation of state (EoS) for nuclear matter beyond the nuclear saturation density. To one's surprise, there exist approximate universal relations connecting certain bulk properties of NSs that are insensitive to the underlying EoS and having important applications on probing fundamental physics including nuclear and gravitational physics. To date, analytic works on universal relations for realistic NSs are lacking, which may lead to a better understanding of the origin of the univers…
Static, spherically symmetric solutions representing stars made of barotropic perfect fluid are studied in the context of two theories of type-II minimally modified gravity, VCDM and VCCDM. Both of these theories share the property that no additional degree of freedom is introduced in the gravity sector, and propagate only two gravitational waves besides matter fields, as in General Relativity (GR). We find that, on imposing physical boundary conditions on the Misner-Sharp mass of the system, the solutions in V(C)CDM exactly coincide with the ones in GR, namely they also satisfy the Tolman-Opp…
We consider the scalar field profile around relativistic compact objects such as neutron stars for a range of modified gravity models with screening mechanisms of the chameleon and Damour-Polyakov types. We focus primarily on inverse power law chameleons and the environmentally dependent dilaton as examples of both mechanisms. We discuss the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation and then implement a relaxation algorithm to solve for the scalar profiles numerically. We find that chameleons and dilatons behave in a similar manner and that there is a large degeneracy between the modified g…
We derive a working model for the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation for quark star systems within the modified $f(T, \mathcal{T})$-gravity class of models. We consider $f(T, \mathcal{T})$-gravity for a static spherically symmetric space-time. In this instance the metric is built from a more fundamental tetrad vierbein from which the metric tensor can be derived. We impose a linear $f(T)$ parameter parameter, namely taking $f=αT(r) + β\mathcal{T}(r) + φ$ and investigate the behavior of a linear energy-momentum tensor trace, $\mathcal{T}$. We also outline the restrictions which modified $f(T, …
In the present work we study strange stars in $f(R)$ theories of gravity in the Palatini formalism. We consider two concrete well-known cases, namely the $R+R^2/(6 M^2)$ model as well as the $R-μ^4/R$ model for two different values of the mass parameter $M$ or $μ$. We integrate the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations numerically, and we show the mass-radius diagram for each model separately. The standard case corresponding to the General Relativity is also shown in the same figure for comparison. Our numerical results show that the interior solution can be vastly different depending …
The present work deals with three alternative generalized Bekenstein-Hawking formulation of thermodynamical parameters namely entropy and temperature for the universal thermodynamical system bounded by a horizon in the frame work of inhomogeneous perfect fluid Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) model of the Universe. For the first choice, the first law of thermodynamics holds only for the trivial de Sitter case of the LTB model while we need restriction on the evolution of the horizon radius for the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics. However, for the other two choices, the firs…
This paper investigates some physical features that give rise to complexity within the self-gravitating static cylindrical structure coupled with anisotropic distribution in the energy-momentum squared gravity. To accomplish this, we formulate the modified field equations and explore the structure of the astronomical body. The C-energy and Tolman mass are also calculated to discuss the matter distribution. We then obtain some structure scalars via orthogonal splitting of the Riemann tensor. Since, the complexity of the considered structure is influenced by a variety of variables, including ani…
We test a free {\it ad hoc} parametrization of the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation. We do not have in mind any specific extended theory of gravity (ETG) but each new parameter introduced has a physical interpretation. Our aim is fully pedagogical rather than a proposal for a new ETG. Given a realistic neutron star equation of state we map the contributions of each new parameter into a shift in trajectories of the mass-radius diagram. This exercise allows us to make the correspondence between each TOV sector with possible modifications of gravity and clarifies how neutron star observa…
