Quarkonium production mechanism in high multiplicity small collision systems has recently been pursued in the color-glass-condensate (CGC) effective theory combined with non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, allowing to study initial state interactions. Quarkonium polarization, potentially measured in future experiments, would help elucidate the quarkonium production mechanism at high multiplicities. In this paper, we provide predictions on $J/ψ$ polarization parameters in high multiplicity proton-proton ($pp$) and proton-nucleus ($pA$) collisions within the CGC+NRQCD framework. Theoretical predictions are given for $J/ψ$ rapidity $2.5< y_{J/ψ}<4$, charged-particle multiplicity pseudorapidity $|η_{ch} | <1$ and energies $\sqrt{S}=13\mathrm{~TeV}$ for $pp$, $\sqrt{S}=8.16\mathrm{~TeV}$ for $pA$ collisions. Considering two leptonic frame choices (Collins - Soper and helicity) we find a weak polarization of $J/ψ$ that additionally decreases with growing event activities. No significant system size dependence between $pp$ and $pA$ collisions is obtained - this could be a new constraint to initial state interactions in small collision systems.
We compute the $J/ψ$ polarization observables $λ_θ$, $λ_ϕ$, $λ_{θϕ}$ in a Color Glass Condensate (CGC) + nonrelativistic QCQ (NRQCD) formalism that includes contributions from both color singlet and color octet intermediate states. Our results are compared to low $p_T$ data on $J/ψ$ polarization from the LHCb and ALICE experiments on proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and 8 TeV. Our CGC+NRQCD computation provides a better description of data for $p_T \leq 15$ GeV relative to extant next-to-leading (NLO) calculations within the collinear factorization framew…
Considering a dilute-dense situation suitable for pA collisions, we compute in the Color Glass Condensate the correlation between azimuthal asymmetries, specifically the squared second Fourier coefficient $v_2^2$, and the total multiplicity in the event. We also analyse the correlation between $v_2^2$ and the mean squared transverse momentum of particles in the event. In both cases, we find that the correlations are generally very small, consistent with the observations. We also note an interesting sharp change in the value of $v_2^2$ and its correlations as a function of the width of the tran…
We employ a small $x$ Color Glass Condensate (CGC)+ Non-Relativistic QCD (NRQCD) formalism to compute $J/ψ$ production at low $p_\perp$ in proton-proton collisions at collider energies. Very good agreement is obtained for total cross-sections, rapidity distributions and low momentum $p_\perp$ distributions. Similar agreement is obtained for $ψ^\prime$ production. We observe an overlap region in $p_\perp$ where our results match smoothly to those obtained in a next-to-leading order (NLO) collinearly factorized NRQCD formalism. The relative contribution of color singlet and color octet contribut…
Heavy flavor measurements in high multiplicity proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at collider energies enable unique insights into their production and hadronization mechanism because experimental and theoretical uncertainties cancel in ratios of their cross-sections relative to minimum bias events. We explore such event engineering using the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory to compute short distance charmonium cross-sections. The CGC is combined with heavy-quark fragmentation functions to compute $D$-meson cross-sections; for the $J/ψ$, hadronization is described e…
Within the dense-dilute Color Glass Condensate approach, and using the Golec-Biernat-Wuesthoff model for the dipole scattering amplitude, we calculate $v_2^2$ as well as the correlations between $v_2^2$ and both the total multiplicity and the mean transverse momentum of produced particles. We find that the correlations are generally very small consistent with the observations. We note an interesting sharp change in the value of $v^2_2$ as well as of its correlations as a function of the width of the transverse momentum bin. This crossover is associated with the change from Bose enhancement dom…
The initial state is one of the greatest uncertainties in heavy-ion collisions. A model-agnostic approach is taken in the phenomenological Trento framework which constrains parameters using Bayesian analysis. However, the color-glass condensate (CGC) effective theory predicts initial energy densities that lie outside the recent Bayesian analyses due, in part, to the assumption in Trento of event-by-event multiplicity fluctuations following a $Γ$ distribution. We compare the Trento-preferred $\sqrt{T_{A}T_{B}}$ scaling to CGC-like $T_{A}T_{B}$ scaling coupled with log-normal fluctuations in $Au…
We generalized our model for the description of hard processes, and calculate the value of the azimuthal angle correlations ( Fourier harmonics $v_n$ ), for proton-proton scattering. The energy and multiplicity independence, as well as the value of $v_n$, turn out the be in accord with the experimental data, or slightly larger. Therefore, before making extreme assumptions on proton-proton collisions, such as the production of quark-gluon plasma in the large multiplicity events, we need to explain how these effect theBose-Einstein correlations which are so large, that have to be taken into accou…
The IP-Glasma model of CGC combined with the Lund model of PYTHIA provides a very successful description of hadron production from gluon dominated non-equilibrium matter in various small collision systems. This new CGC+PYTHIA framework, naturally reproduces several characteristic features of the hadronic observables such as the mass ordering of $v_{2}(p_{T})$ and $\langle p_{T}\rangle$, often ascribed to collectivity driven by hydrodynamics at the LHC. In this contribution we extend our work to provide a systematic comparison of particle spectra and multiplicity distributions in p+p and d+Au c…
In this paper we demonstrate that the vigorously growing multiplicity distributions measured by STAR and ALICE present a strong evidence in favor of multigluon fusion mechanisms of the quarkonia production in CGC approach. We analyze the contribution of 3-gluon fusion mechanism and demonstrate that it gives a sizeable contribution to quarkonia yields, as well as predicts correctly the multiplicity distributions for $J/ψ$ at RHIC and LHC. We also make predictions for other quarkonia states, such as $ψ(2S)$ and $Υ(1S)$, and find that the multiplicity dependence of these states should be comparab…
We apply a Color Glass Condensate+Non-Relativistic QCD (CGC+NRQCD) framework to compute $J/ψ$ production in deuteron-nucleus collisions at RHIC and proton-nucleus collisions at the LHC. Our results match smoothly at high $p_\perp$ to a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD + NRQCD computation. Excellent agreement is obtained for $p_\perp$ spectra at RHIC and LHC for central and forward rapidities, as well as for the normalized ratio $R_{pA}$ of these results to spectra in proton-proton collisions. In particular, we observe that the $R_{pA}$ data is strongly bounded by our computations of the …
In the framework of dense-dilute CGC approach we study fluctuations in the multiplicity of produced particles in p-A collisions. We show that the leading effect that drives the fluctuations is the Bose enhancement of gluons in the proton wave function. We explicitly calculate the moment generating function that resums the effects of Bose enhancement. We show that it can be understood in terms of the Liouville effective action for the composite field which is identified with the fluctuating density, or saturation momentum of the proton. The resulting probability distribution turns out to be ver…
The Parton-Hadron-String-Dynamics (PHSD) transport model is employed for p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 5.02 TeV and compared to recent experimental data from the LHC as well as to alternative models. We focus on the question of initial state dynamics, i.e. if the initial state might be approximated by a superposition of independent nucleon-nucleon collisions or should be considered as a coherent gluon field as predicted within the color glass condensate (CGC) framework. We find that the PHSD approach provides correlations between the charged particle multiplicity at midrapidity and the n…

We discuss the production of $D$-mesons and $J/ψ$ in high multiplicity proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions within the Color-Glass-Condensate (CGC) framework. We demonstrate that the modification of the LHC data on $D$ and $J/ψ$ yields in high multiplicity events relative to minimum bias events arise from a significant enhancement of the gluon saturation scales of the corresponding rare parton configurations in the colliding protons and nuclei. For a given event multiplicity, we predict these relative yields to be energy independent from $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV at RHIC to the highest LHC ene…
Starting from a Color Glass Condensate (CGC) framework, based on a running-coupling improved $k_T$-factorized formula, we calculate bulk observables in several heavy-ion collision systems. This is done in two ways: first we calculate the particle distribution directly implied from the CGC model, and we compare this to the case where it is instead used as initial conditions for a hybrid hydrodynamic simulation. In this way, we can assess the effects of hydrodynamic and hadronic evolution by quantifying how much they change the results from a pure initial state approach and, therefore, to what e…
In this paper we discuss the inclusive $J/ψ$ production in proton-proton collisions from fusion of three pomerons. We demonstrate that this mechanism gets dominant contribution from the region which can be theoretically described by CGC/Saturation approach. Numerically, it gives a substantial contribution to the $J/ψ$ production, and is able to describe the experimentally observable shapes of the rapidity, momenta and multiplicity distributions. The latter fact provides a natural explanation of the experimentally observed enhancement of multiplicity distribution in $J/ψ$ production.
