We apply a Color Glass Condensate+Non-Relativistic QCD (CGC+NRQCD) framework to compute $J/ψ$ production in deuteron-nucleus collisions at RHIC and proton-nucleus collisions at the LHC. Our results match smoothly at high $p_\perp$ to a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD + NRQCD computation. Excellent agreement is obtained for $p_\perp$ spectra at RHIC and LHC for central and forward rapidities, as well as for the normalized ratio $R_{pA}$ of these results to spectra in proton-proton collisions. In particular, we observe that the $R_{pA}$ data is strongly bounded by our computations of the same for each of the individual NRQCD channels; this result provides strong evidence that our description is robust against uncertainties in initial conditions and hadronization mechanisms.
According to the usual application of the sequential-suppression picture to the dynamics of heavy quarkonia in the hot medium formed in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions, quark-antiquark pairs created in a given bound or unbound state remain in that same state as the medium evolves. We argue that this scenario implicitly assumes an adiabatic evolution of the quarkonia, and we show that the validity of the adiabaticity assumption is questionable.
Rapidity-dependent transverse momentum spectra of negatively charged pions measured at different rapidities in proton-proton collisions at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at various energies within its Beam Energy Scan (BES) program are investigated by using one- and two-component standard distributions where the chemical potential and spin property of particles are implemented. The rapidity spectra are described by a double-Gaussian distribution. At the stage of kinetic freeze-out, the event patterns are structured by the scatter plots in the three-dimensional subspaces of velocity, moment…
Simple generic expressions to compute double-parton scattering (DPS) cross sections in high-energy proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions, as a function of the corresponding single-parton cross sections, are presented. Estimates of DPS contributions are studied for two specific processes at LHC energies: (i) same-sign W-boson pair production in p-Pb, and (ii) double-J/psi production in Pb-Pb, using NLO predictions with nuclear parton densities for the corresponding single-parton cross sections. The expected DPS cross sections and event rates after typical acceptance and efficiency losse…
The rapidity dependence of elliptic, $v_2$, and triangular, $v_3$, flow coefficients in proton-nucleus (p+A) collisions is predicted in hydrodynamics and in a multi-phase transport model (AMPT). We find that $v_n$ ($n=2,3$) on a nucleus side is significantly larger than on a proton side and the ratio between the two, $v_n^{\rm Pb}/v_n^{\rm p}$, weekly depends on the transverse momentum of produced particles.
We show that the statistics of fluctuation-driven initial-state anisotropies in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions is to a large extent universal. We propose a simple parametrization for the probability distribution of the Fourier coefficient $\varepsilon_n$ in harmonic $n$, which is in good agreement with Monte-Carlo simulations. Our results provide a simple explanation for the 4-particle cumulant of triangular flow measured in Pb-Pb collisions, and for the 4-particle cumulant of elliptic flow recently measured in p-Pb collisions. Both arise as natural consequences o…
We apply the successful Monte Carlo Glauber and IP-Glasma initial state models of heavy ion collisions to the much smaller size systems produced in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and deuteron- nucleus collisions. We observe a significantly greater sensitivity of the initial state geometry to details of multi-particle production in these models compared to nucleus-nucleus collisions. In particular, we find that the size of the system produced in p+A collisions is very similar to the one produced in p+p collisions, and predict comparable Hanbury-Brown-Twiss radii in the absence of flow in both sy…
We compare the azimuthal correlations arising from three and two hadron production in high energy proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}}=200 GeV, using the leading order matrix elements for two-to-three and two-to-two parton-processes in perturbative QCD. We first compute the two and three hadron production cross sections in mid-rapidity proton-proton collisions. Then we consider Au + Au collisions including parton energy loss using the modified fragmentation function approach. By examining the geometrical paths the hard partons follow through the medium, we show that th…
We show that we can reproduce all the features of bottomonium suppression in both proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC energies in a comover-interaction picture. For each collisions system, we use the measured {\it relative} suppression of the excited $Υ$(2S) and $Υ$(3S) states to $Υ$(1S) by ATLAS and CMS to parametrise the scattering cross sections of all $S$- and $P$-wave bottomonia with the comoving particles created during the collisions. In addition to a single nonpertubative parameter, these cross sections depend on the momentum distribution of these comovers which we fou…
Parton energy loss effects in heavy-ion collisions are studied with the Monte Carlo program PQM (Parton Quenching Model) constructed using the BDMPS quenching weights and a realistic collision geometry. The merit of the approach is that it contains only one free parameter that is tuned to the high-pt nuclear modification factor measured in central Au-Au collisions at sqrt{s_NN} = 200 GeV. Once tuned, the model is coherently applied to all the high-pt observables at 200 GeV: the centrality evolution of the nuclear modification factor, the suppression of the away-side jet-like correlations, and …
The transverse momentum spectra of charged particles produced in proton(deuteron)-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energies are analyzed by the Hagedorn thermal model and the standard distribution in terms of multi-component. The experimental data measured in central and peripheral gold-gold (Au-Au) and deuteron-gold ($d$-Au) collisions by the PHENIX Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), as well as in central and peripheral lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-lead ($p$-Pb) collisions by the ALICE Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are fitted by the t…
The effects of parton energy loss and pT-broadening in cold nuclear matter on the pT and centrality dependence, at various rapidities, of J/psi suppression in p-A collisions are investigated. Calculations are systematically compared to E866 and PHENIX measurements. The very good agreement between the data and the theoretical expectations further supports pT-broadening and the associated medium-induced parton energy loss as dominant effects in J/psi suppression in high-energy p-A collisions. Predictions for J/psi (and Upsilon) suppression in p-Pb collisions at the LHC are given.
We show that we can reach a global and coherent description of bottomonium suppression in both proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC energies. The measured relative suppression of the excited bottomonium states as compared to their ground state allows us to constrain the scattering cross sections between the bottomonia and the comovers created during the collisions. Our result hints at a similar energy distribution of these comovers in the environment created by proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions. Along the way of our study, we also update our knowledge for the bo…
We show that the incoherent elastic scattering of partons, as present in a multi-phase transport model (AMPT), with a modest parton-parton cross-section of $σ=1.5 - 3$ mb, naturally explains the long-range two-particle azimuthal correlation as observed in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at the Large Hadron Collider.
Proton-proton ($pp$) collision has been considered as a baseline to study the system produced in relativistic heavy-ion (AA) collisions with the basic assumption that no thermal medium is formed in $pp$ collisions. This warrants a cautious analysis of the system produced in $pp$ collisions at relativistic energies. In this work we investigate the charmonium suppression in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02, 7$ and $13$ TeV energies. Further, charmonium suppression has been studied for various event multiplicities and transverse momenta by including the mechanisms of color screening, gluonic di…
Pion and photon production cross sections are analyzed in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at energies 20 GeV < s^1/2 < 60 GeV. We separate the proton-proton and nuclear contributions to transverse-momentum broadening and suggest a new mechanism for the nuclear enhancement in the high transverse-momentum region.
We calculate the nuclear suppression for $J/Ψ$ and $Ψ'$ production within a coupled channel approach in the subspace of the $J/Ψ$ and $Ψ'$ states. We are able to explain, why (i) the $J/Ψ$ and $Ψ'$ show the same suppression from $200\ GeV$ to $800\ GeV$ in proton-nucleus collisions and why (ii) the $Ψ'$ is absorbed more strongly than the $J/Ψ$ in nucleus-nucleus collisions at $200\ GeV$. The numerical result which includes only interactions with nucleons acconts for half of the observed suppression in sulphur-uranium collisions.
The observation of long-range collective correlations for particles emitted in high-multiplicity pp and pPb collisions has opened up new opportunities of investigating novel high-density QCD phenomena in small colliding systems. We review experimental results related to the studies of collective phenomena in small systems from RHIC and the LHC over the past several years. Latest development in theoretical interpretations motivated by different frameworks are also reviewed, and confronted with the experimental data. Perspectives on possible future directions are discussed, with the aim of furth…
I give a brief overview of the recent theoretical progress in the study of quarkonium production in proton-nucleus collisions in view of the recent LHC and RHIC results. A special emphasis is put on the excited states such as the psi', Upsilon(2S) and Upsilon(3S).
We present a brief overview of the most relevant current issues related to quarkonium production in high energy proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions along with some perspectives. After reviewing recent experimental and theoretical results on quarkonium production in pp and pA collisions, we discuss the emerging field of polarisation studies. Thereafter, we report on issues related to heavy-quark production, both in pp and pA collisions, complemented by AA collisions. To put the work in a broader perspective, we emphasize the need for new observables to investigate quarkonium production …
I compare the available theoretical models that describe the Cronin effect on hadron and minijet production in proton-nucleus collisions, pointing out similarities and differences among them. The effect may be summarized by the value of two variables. Their values computed in the different models are compared in the energy range 27.4 GeV - 5500 GeV. Finally, I propose to use the pseudorapidity systematics as a further handle to distinguish among the models.
In proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collision experiments, one determines the centrality of a collision according to the multiplicity or energy deposited in a detector. This serves as a proxy for the true collision centrality, as defined by the impact parameter. We show that the probability distribution of impact parameter in a given bin of experiment-defined centrality can be reconstructed without assuming any specific model for the collision dynamics, in both proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus systems. The reconstruction is reliable up to about 10\% centrality, and is more accurate for nuc…
Proton-nucleus (p+A) collisions have long been recognized as a crucial component of the physics programme with nuclear beams at high energies, in particular for their reference role to interpret and understand nucleus-nucleus data as well as for their potential to elucidate the partonic structure of matter at low parton fractional momenta (small-x). Here, we summarize the main motivations that make a proton-nucleus run a decisive ingredient for a successful heavy-ion programme at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and we present unique scientific opportunities arising from these collisions. We al…
We perform the first study on asymmetric longitudinal decorrelations of elliptic, triangular and quadrangular flows in proton-nucleus collisions at the LHC and RHIC energies. To measure the longitudinal flow decorrelations for asymmetric collision systems, we propose a new set of rapidity-asymmetric flow decorrelation functions. Our event-by-event hydrodynamic calculations show that the flow decorrelations in proton-going direction are larger than those in nucleus-going direction. We also find that proton-nucleus collisions at RHIC have larger longitudinal flow decorrelation effects than those…
We argue that the large suppression of the $ψ(2S)$ inclusive cross-section relative to the $J/ψ$ inclusive cross-section in proton-nucleus (p+A) collisions can be attributed to factorization breaking effects in the formation of quarkonium. These factorization breaking effects arise from soft color exchanges between charm-anticharm pairs undergoing hadronization and comoving partons that are long-lived on time scales of quarkonium formation. We compute the short distance pair production of heavy quarks in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory and employ an improved Color Evapo…
In this paper a role of many-nucleon dynamics in formation of the compound $^{5}{\rm Li}$ nucleus in the scattering of protons off $α$-particles at the proton incident energies up to 20 MeV is investigated. We propose a bremsstrahlung model allowing to extract information about probabilities of formation of such nucleus on the basis of analysis of experimental cross-sections of the bremsstrahlung photons. In order to realize this approach, the model includes elements of microscopic theory and also probabilities of formation of the short-lived compound nucleus. Results of calculations of the br…
We calculate the inclusive heavy quark production cross section for proton-nucleus collisions at high energies. We perform calculation in a quasi-classical approximation (McLerran-Venugopalan model) neglecting all low-x evolution effects. The derived expression for the differential cross section can be applied for studying the heavy quark production in the central rapidity region at RHIC.
We present recent results for heavy-flavor observables in nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC energies, obtained with the POWLANG transport setup. The initial creation of c-cbar and b-bbar pairs is simulated with a perturbative QCD approach (POWHEG+PYTHIA); their propagation in the medium (created in the nucleus-nucleus or in proton-nucleus collision) is studied with the relativistic Langevin equation, here solved using weak-coupling transport coefficients. Successively, the heavy quarks hadronize in the medium. We compute the nuclear modification factor and the elliptic flow parameter of the fi…
We consider proton-nucleus collisions at high energy in the Color Glass Condensate framework, and extract from the gluon production cross-section the probabilities of having a definite number of multiple scatterings in the nucleus. Various properties of the distribution of the number of multiple scatterings are studied, and we conclude that events in which the momentum of a hard jet is compensated by many much softer particles on the opposite side are very unlikely except for extreme values of the saturation momentum. In the same framework, we also investigate the possibility to estimate the i…
The production of forward $J/ψ$ mesons in proton-nucleus collisions can provide important information on gluon saturation. In a previous work we studied this process in the Color Glass Condensate framework, describing the target using a dipole cross section fitted to HERA inclusive data and extrapolated to the case of a nuclear target using the optical Glauber model. In this work we study the centrality dependence of the nuclear suppression in this model and compare our results with recent LHC data for this observable.
After a short summary of the predictions of the Parton Quenching Model (PQM) for the nuclear modification factor and its centrality dependence in Au-Au collisions at RHIC, we concentrate on back-to-back jet-like correlations at high transverse momentum. We illustrate how this probe is biased by the surface effect.
In the present article, we have studied the equation of state and dissociation temperature of bottomonium state by correcting the full Cornell potential in isotropic medium by employing the effective fugacity quasi-particle Debye mass. We had also calculated the bottomonium suppression in an expanding, dissipative strongly interacting QGP medium produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Finally we compared our results with experimental data from RHIC 200GeV/nucleon Au-Au collisions, LHC 2.76 TeV/nucleon Pb-Pb, and LHC 5.02 TeV/nucleon Pb-Pb collisions as a function of number of participan…
A new approach is presented to determine the proton-nucleus interactions from the analysis of the accompanying photon bremsstrahlung. We study the scattering of $p + ^{208}{\rm Pb}$ at the proton incident energies of 140 and 145~MeV, and the scattering of $p + ^{12}{\rm C}$, $p + ^{58}{\rm Ni}$, $p + ^{107}{\rm Ag}$ and $p + ^{197}{\rm Au}$ at the proton incident energy of 190~MeV. The model determines contributions of the coherent emission (formed by an interaction between the scattering proton and nucleus as a whole without the internal many-nucleon structure), incoherent emission (formed by…
We provide a compilation of predictions of the QGSJET-II-04m model for the production of secondary species (photons, neutrinos, electrons, positrons, and antinucleons) that are covering a wide range of energies of the beam particles in proton-proton, proton-nucleus, nucleus-proton, and nucleus-nucleus reactions. The current version of QGSJET-II-04m has an improved treatment of the production of secondary particles at low energies: the parameters of the hadronization procedure have been fine-tuned, based on a number of recent benchmark experimental data, notably, from the LHCf, LHCb, and NA61 e…
New results of the NA61/SHINE Collaboration at the CERN SPS on mean hadron multiplicities in proton-proton (p+p) interactions are analyzed within the transport models and the hadron resonance gas (HRG) statistical model. The chemical freeze-out parameters in p+p interactions and central Pb+Pb (or Au+Au) collisions are found and compared with each other in the range of the center of mass energy of the nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=3.2-17.3$ GeV. The canonical ensemble formulation of the HRG model is used to describe mean hadron multiplicities in p+p interactions and the grand canonical ensemble i…
We compute single inclusive hadron production in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions consistently within the CGC framework. The parameters in the calculations are obtained from electron-proton DIS and standard nuclear geometry. We obtain a good description of the DIS data without an anomalous dimension in the initial condition of the BK evolution and get a good agreement with the available single inclusive proton-proton and proton-nucleus data.
The observed features of $ψ'$ to $J/ψ$ suppression in $pA$ and nucleus-nucleus collisions can be explained in terms of a two-component absorption model. For the hard component of the absorption due to the interaction of the produced $c\bar c$ systems with baryons at high relative energies, the absorption cross sections are insensitive to the radii of the $c\bar c$ systems, as described by the Additive Quark Model. For the soft component due to the low energy $c \bar c$ interactions with soft particles produced by other baryon-baryon collisions, the absorption cross sections are greater for $ψ'…
We perform a detailed comparison of long range rapidity correlations in the Color Glass Condensate framework to high multiplicity di-hadron data in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions from the CMS, ALICE and ATLAS experiments at the LHC. The overall good agreement thus far of the non-trivial systematics of theory with data is strongly suggestive of gluon saturation and the presence of subtle quantum interference effects between rapidity separated gluons. In particular, the yield of pairs collimated in their relative azimuthal angle $Δϕ\sim 0$, is sensitive to the shape of unintegrated glu…
We apply the Color Glass Condensate formalism to photon $+$ hadron production cross section in high energy deuteron (proton)-gold collisions at RHIC. We investigate the dependence of the production cross section on the angle between the produced hadron and photon for various rapidities and transverse momenta. It is shown that the angular correlation between the produced hadron and photon is a sensitive probe of the saturation dynamics.
High energy proton-nucleus (pA) collisions provide an important constraint on the study of the chiral magnetic effect in QCD matter. Naively, in pA collisions one expects no correlation between the orientation of event plane as reconstructed from the azimuthal distribution of produced hadrons and the orientation of magnetic field. If this is the case, any charge-dependent hadron correlations can only result from the background. Nevertheless, in this paper we point out that in high multiplicity pA collisions a correlation between the magnetic field and the event plane can appear. This is becaus…
A short review of simulation results of anti-proton-proton and anti-proton-nucleus interactions within the framework of Geant4 FTF (Fritiof) model is presented. The model uses the main assumptions of the Quark-Gluon-String Model or Dual Parton Model. The model assumes production and fragmentation of quark-anti-quark and diquark-anti-diquark strings in the mentioned interactions. Key ingredients of the model are cross sections of string creation processes and an usage of the LUND string fragmentation algorithm. They allow one to satisfactory describe a large set of experimental data, especially…
We calculate the inclusive small-x valence quark production cross section in proton-nucleus collisions at high energies. The calculation is performed in the framework of the Color Glass Condensate formalism. We consider both the case when the valence quark originates inside the nucleus and the case when it originates inside the proton. We first calculate the cross section in the quasi-classical approximation resumming the multiple rescatterings with the nucleus. Then we include the the effects of double logarithmic reggeon evolution and leading logarithmic gluon evolution in the obtained cross…
The study of multiparticle correlations and collectivity in the hot and dense matter created in collisions of heavy-ions as well as those of smaller systems such as proton--heavy-ion collisions has progressed to the point where detailed knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of the proton is needed to confront experimental data. We discuss results from a simple proof-of-principle initial state parton model which reproduces many features of the data on proton--heavy-ion collisions that are often ascribed to hydrodynamic flow. We outline how this model can be further improved with particul…
High-p_T pion and kaon production is studied in relativistic proton-proton, proton-nucleus, and nucleus-nucleus collisions in a wide energy range. Cross sections are calculated based on perturbative QCD, augmented by a phenomenological transverse momentum distribution of partons (``intrinsic k_T''). An energy dependent width of the transverse momentum distribution is extracted from pion and charged hadron production data in proton-proton/proton-antiproton collisions. Effects of multiscattering and shadowing in the strongly interacting medium are taken into account. Enhancement of the transvers…
We study single inclusive hadron production in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions in the CGC framework. The parameters in the calculation are obtained by fitting electron-proton deep inelastic scattering data. The obtained dipole-proton amplitude is generalized to dipole-nucleus scattering without any additional nuclear parameters other than the Woods-Saxon distribution. We show that it is possible to use an initial condition without an anomalous dimension and still obtain a good description of the HERA inclusive cross section and LHC single particle production measurements. We argue …
Hard processes in high-energy proton-nucleus collisions are a powerful tool in order to investigate several importants aspects of QCD in a nuclear medium, such as nuclear shadowing, parton multiple scattering or medium-induced gluon radiation. I review in these proceedings recent progress in that field.
It is recently discovered that at high multiplicy, the proton-nucleus ($pA$) collisions give rise to two particle correlations that are strikingly similar to those of nucleus-nucleus ($AA$) collisions at the same multiplicity, although the system size is smaller in $pA$. Using an independent cluster model and a simple conformal scaling argument, where the ratio of the mean free path to the system size stays constant at fixed multiplicity, we argue that flow in $pA$ emerges as a collective response to the fluctuations in the position of clusters, just like in $AA$ collisions. With several physi…
The distributions of outgoing protons and charged hadrons in high energy proton-nucleus collisions are described rather well by a linear extrapolation from proton-proton collisions. This linear extrapolation is applied to precisely measured Drell-Yan cross sections for 800 GeV protons incident on a variety of nuclear targets. The deviation from linear scaling in the atomic number A can be accounted for by energy degradation of the proton as it passes through the nucleus if account is taken of the time delay of particle production due to quantum coherence. We infer an average proper coherence t…
An experimental overview of the energy dependence of strangeness production is presented. The strange hadrons are considered a good probe to study the QCD matter created in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. The heavy-ion experiments at SPS, RHIC, and LHC have recorded a wealth of data in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at several beam energies. In this proceeding, I discuss the invariant yield and azimuthal anisotropy measurement of strange hadrons in nucleus-nucleus collisions at SPS, RHIC, and LHC.
We examine the production of J/$Ψ$ mesons in high energy hadron-nucleus collisions using models that account for both the initial state modification of parton distributions in nuclei and the final state interaction of the produced $c\bar c$ pairs. We show that, at the energies of current fixed target experiments, J/$Ψ$ production through quark-antiquark annihilation gives the largest contribution at $x_F > 0.5$, while gluon-gluon fusion dominates the production at smaller $x_F$. The observed J/$Ψ$ suppression at large $x_F$ is directly connected to nuclear shadowing in deeply inelastic scatter…
We show that, to a very good approximation, the ratio of the spin-flip to the non-flip parts of the elastic proton-nucleus amplitude is the same as for proton-nucleon scattering at very high energy. The result is used to do a realistic calculation of the analyzing power A_N for pC scattering in the Coulomb-nuclear interference (CNI) region of momentum transfer.
We derive expressions for the gluon production cross sections in the single diffractive proton-nucleus scattering and DIS processes in a quasi-classical approximation. The resulting cross sections include the effects of all multiple rescatterings in the classical background field of the target proton or nucleus, which remains intact after the scattering. We also write down an expression for the inclusive gluon production cross section in DIS in the quasi-classical approximation.
The extension of the factorization theorems of perturbative QCD to power corrections associated with re-scattering in nuclear collisions is reviewed. The importance of hadron-nucleus collisions is discussed.
We calculate the photon production cross-section in $pA$ collisions under the assumption that the nucleus has reached the saturation regime, while the proton can be described by the standard parton distribution functions. We show that due to the strong classical field $O(1/g)$ of the nucleus, bremsstrahlung diagrams become dominant over the direct photon diagrams. In particular, we show that $γ-$jet transverse momentum spectrum and correlations are very sensitive to gluon saturation effects in the nucleus.
We calculate the spectrum of energy loss differences due to gluon radiation in high energy hard forward processes in proton-nucleus collisions as compared to proton-proton collisions. We find that the nuclear induced energy loss scales linearly with the beam energy. We evaluate the spectrum and "typical" energy losses in a logarithmic and large $N_{c}$ approximation. The energy losses found appear large enough to be phenomenologically important.
We describe the origin of, and the solution to, the negativity problem which occurs in the perturbative calculation of the cross-section for single-inclusive particle production in proton-nucleus collisions at next-to-leading-order.
The proton and neutron inclusive distributions in the projectile fragmentation region of $pA$ collisions are studied in the valon model. Momentum degradation and flavor changes due to the nuclear medium are described at the valon level using two parameters. Particle production is treated by means of the recombination subprocess. The centrality dependences of the net proton and neutron spectra of the NA49 data are satisfactorily reproduced. The effective degradation length is determined to be 17 fm. Pion inclusive distributions can be calculated without any adjustable parameters.
The exclusive $K^+$ meson production in a proton-nucleus collision, leading to two body final states, is investigated in a fully covariant two-nucleon model based on the effective Lagrangian picture. The explicit kaon production vertex is described via creation, propagation and decay into relevant channel of $N^*$(1650), $N^*$(1710) and $N^*$(1720) intermediate baryonic states in the initial collision of the projectile nucleon with one of its target counterparts which is modeled by the one-pion exchange process. The calculated cross sections show strong sensitivity to the medium effects on pio…
The strong electromagnetic fields associated with ultra-relativistic protons and nuclei correspond to an equivalent flux of photons. At the future Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the corresponding photon-nucleon center of mass energies will be higher than at any existing accelerator. The experimental and theoretical aspects of particle production in electromagnetic interactions at hadron colliders are reviewed.
