Recently, black hole symmetries have been studied widely and it has been speculated that this procedure will lead to the deeper understanding of the black hole physics. Spontaneous symmetry breaking of the horizon symmetries is one of the very recent attempt to clarify black hole thermal physics. In this work, we are going to investigate the same in three dimensional massive gravity, including higher order of Riemann tensor. We observe that the idea also works well in this gravitational theory, thereby providing stronger demand of the viability of this idea.
Susskind has recently shown that a relativistic string approaching the event horizon of a black hole spreads in both the transverse and longitudinal directions in the reference frame of an outside observer. The transverse spreading can be described as a branching diffusion of wee string bits. This stochastic process provides a mechanism for thermalizing the quantum state of the string as it spreads across the stretched horizon.
We numerically study the classical evolution of a Yang-Mills matrix model with two distinct mass deformation terms, which can be contemplated as a massive deformation of the bosonic part of the BFSS model. Through numerical analysis, it is shown that when the simulations are started from a certain set of initial conditions, thermalization occurs. Besides, an estimation method is proposed to determine the approximate thermalization time. Using this method, we demonstrate that thermalization time vary logarithmically with increasing matrix size when the mass terms differ. Introducing a matrix co…
After a short presentation of KMS states and modular theory as the unifying description of thermalizing systems we propose the absence of transverse vacuum fluctuations in the holographic projections as the mechanism for an area behavior (the transverse area) of localization entropy as opposed to the volume dependence of ordinary heat bath entropy. Thermalization through causal localization is not a property of QM, but results from the omnipresent vacuum polarization in QFT and does not require a Gibbs type ensemble avaraging (coupling to a heat bath).
In the AdS/CFT framework meson thermalization in the presence of a constant external magnetic field in a strongly coupled gauge theory has been studied. In the gravitational description the thermalization of mesons corresponds to the horizon formation on the flavour D7-brane which is embedded in the AdS_5 x S^5 background in the probe limit. The apparent horizon forms due to the time-dependent change in the baryon number chemical potential, the injection of baryons in the gauge theory. We will numerically show that the thermalization happens even faster in the presence of the magnetic field on…
We perform a numerical study to recognize the difference between various massive potentials in the dRGT massive gravity on the holographic thermalization in the AdS and AdS Gauss-Bonnet gravities. The massive potential in $4+1$ dimensions includes three symmetric polynomial terms which we denote them as $a_1$, $a_2$ and $a_3$ terms. We observe, in the case of time evolution of entanglement entropy that there is a critical size of the entangling surface on the boundary below which both signs of $a_1$ and above the critical size $a_3$ are able to reduce the thermal value of entanglement entropy.…
We study the evolution, the transverse spreading and the subsequent thermalization of string states in the Weyl static axisymmetric spacetime. This possesses a singular event horizon on the symmetry axis and a naked singularity along the other directions. The branching diffusion process of string bits approaching the singular event horizon provides the notion of temperature that is calculated for this process. We find that the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation in the phase space of the transverse variables of the string, can be factored as a product of two thermal distributions, provided …
It is generally agreed that black hole formation in gravity corresponds to thermalization in the dual CFT. It is sometimes argued that if the CFT evolution shows evidence of large redshift in gravity, then we have seen black hole formation in the CFT. We argue that this is not the case: a clock falling towards the horizon increases its redshift but remains intact as a clock; thus it is not `thermalized'. Instead, thermalization should correspond to a new phase after the phase of large redshift, where the infalling object turns into fuzzballs on reaching within planck distance of the horizon. W…
We put forward an attempt towards building a possible theoretical model to understand the observer dependent thermalization of black hole horizon. The near horizon Hamiltonian for a massless, chargeless particle is $xp$ type. This is unstable in nature and so the horizon can induce instability in a system. The particle in turn finds the horizon thermal when it interacts with it. We explicitly show this in the Schrodinger as well as in Heisenberg pictures by taking into account the time evolution of the system under this Hamiltonian. Hence we postulate that existing instability near the horizon…
The validity of our already proposed conjecture -- {\it horizon creates a local instability which acts as the source of the quantum temperature of black hole} -- is being tested here for Kerr black hole. Earlier this has been explicitly shown for spherically symmetric static black hole (SSS BH). The more realistic situation like Kerr spacetime, being stationary and axisymmetric, is a non-trivial example to analyze. We show that for a chargeless massless particle, the near horizon radial motion in Kerr spacetime, like SSS BH, can be locally unstable. The radial contribution in the corresponding…
We investigate the effect of massive graviton on the holographic thermalization process. Before doing this, we first find out the generalized Vaidya-AdS solutions in the de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity by directly solving the gravitational equations. Then, we study the thermodynamics of these Vaidya-AdS solutions by using the Minsner-Sharp energy and unified first law, which also shows that the massive gravity is in a thermodynamic equilibrium state. Moreover, we adopt the two-point correlation function at equal time to explore the thermalization process in the dual field theor…
We study the holographic entanglement entropy in a homogeneous falling shell background, which is dual to the strongly coupled field theory following a global quench. For d=2 conformal field theories, it is known that the entropy has a linear growth regime if the scale of the entangling region is large. In addition, the growth rate approaches a constant when the scale increases. We demonstrate analytically that this behavior is directly related to the part of minimal area surface probing the interior of apparent horizons in the bulk, as well as the mutual information between two disjoint recta…
We give a simple recipe for computing dissipation and fluctuations (commutator and anti-commutator correlation functions) for non-equilibrium black hole geometries. The recipe formulates Hawking radiation as an initial value problem, and is suitable for numerical work. We show how to package the fluctuation and dissipation near the event horizon into correlators on the stretched horizon. These horizon correlators determine the bulk and boundary field theory correlation functions. In addition, the horizon correlators are the components of a horizon effective action which provides a quantum gene…
When matter falls past the horizon of a large black hole, the expectation from string theory is that the configuration thermalizes and the information in the probe is rather quickly scrambled away. The traditional view of a classical unique spacetime near a black hole horizon conflicts with this picture. The question then arises as to what spacetime does the probe actually see as it crosses a horizon, and how does the background geometry imprint its signature onto the thermal properties of the probe. In this work, we explore these questions through an extensive series of numerical simulations …
We discuss thermalization through perturbative inflaton decay at the end of inflation. We find that a thermal plasma should form well before all inflatons have decayed, unless all gauge symmetries are badly broken during that epoch. However, before they thermalize, the very energetic inflaton decay products can contribute to the production of massive stable particles, either through collisions with the thermal plasma, or through collisions with each other. If such reactions exist, the same massive particles can also be produced directly in inflaton decay, once higher--order processes are inclu…
Motivated by its field theory interpretation, we study gravitational collapse of a minimally coupled massless scalar field in Einstein gravity with a negative cosmological constant. After demonstrating the accuracy of the numerical algorithm for the questions we are interested in, we investigate various aspects of the apparent horizon formation. In particular, we study the time and radius of the apparent horizon formed as functions of the initial Gaussian profile for the scalar field. We comment on several aspects of the dual field theory picture.
We examine the late-time evolution of a qubit (or Unruh-De Witt detector) that hovers very near to the event horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole, while interacting with a free quantum scalar field. The calculation is carried out perturbatively in the dimensionless qubit/field coupling $g$, but rather than computing the qubit excitation rate due to field interactions (as is often done), we instead use Open EFT techniques to compute the late-time evolution to all orders in $g^2 t/r_s$ (while neglecting order $g^4 t/r_s$ effects) where $r_s = 2GM$ is the Schwarzschild radius. We show that for q…
We argue that the infall time to the singularity in the interior of a black hole, is always related to a classical thermalization time. This indicates that singularities are related to the equilibration of infalling objects with the microstates of the black hole, but only in the sense of classical equilibration. When the singularity is reached, the quantum state of the black hole, initially a tensor product of the state of the infalling object and that of the black hole, is not yet a "generic" state in the enlarged Hilbert space, so its complexity is not maximal. We relate these observations t…
We study the time evolution of holographic subregion complexity (HSC) in Vaidya spacetime with dS boundary. The subregion on the boundary is chosen to be a sphere within the cosmological horizon. It is found that the behaviour of HSC is similar to that in cases with flat boundary. The whole evolution can be divided into four stages: First, it grows almost linearly, then the growth slows down; After reaching a maximum it drops down quickly and gets to saturation finally. The linear growth rate in the first stage is found to depend almost only on the the mass parameter. As the subregion size app…
Using the AdS/CFT correspondence for strongly coupled gauge theories, we calculate thermalization of mesons caused by a time-dependent change of a baryon number chemical potential. On the gravity side, the thermalization corresponds to a horizon formation on the probe flavor brane in the AdS throat. Since heavy ion collisions are locally approximated by a sudden change of the baryon number chemical potential, we discuss implication of our results to RHIC and LHC experiments, to find a rough estimate of rather rapid thermalization time-scale t_{th} < 1 [fm/c]. We also discuss universality of ou…
AApplying the Born-Infeld Anti de Sitter charged black hole metric we calculate holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) by regarding the proposal of Ryu and Takanayagi. To do so we assume that time dependence of the black hole mass and charge to be as step function. Our work is restricted to small subregions where a collapsing null shell dose not penetrate the black holes horizon. To calculate time dependent HEE we use perturbation method for small subregions where turning point is much smaller than local equilibrium point of black hole. We choose two shape functions for entangled regions on th…
Motivated by the duality with thermalization in field theory, we study gravitational collapse of a minimally coupled massless scalar field in Einstein gravity with a negative cosmological constant. We investigate the system numerically and establish that for small values of the initial amplitude of the scalar field there is no black hole formation, rather, the scalar field performs an oscillatory motion typical of geodesics in AdS. For large enough values of the amplitude of the scalar field we find black hole formation which we detect numerically as the emergence of an apparent horizon. Using…
Recent advances in AdS/CFT holography have suggested that the near-horizon dynamics of black holes can be described by random matrix systems. We study how the energy spectrum of a system with a generic random Hamiltonian matrix affects its early and late time thermalization behaviour using the spectral form factor (which captures the time-dependence of two-point correlation functions). We introduce a simple statistical framework for generating random spectra in terms of the nearest neighbor spacing statistics of energy eigenvalues, enabling us to compute the averaged spectral form factor in a …
We study the temperature of rotating probe D7-branes, dual to the temperature of flavored quarks, in the Kuperstein--Sonnenschein holographic model including the effects of spontaneous breakdown of the conformal and chiral flavor symmetry. The model embeds probe D7-branes into the Klebanov-Witten gravity dual of conformal gauge theory, with the embedding parameter, given by the minimal radial extension of the probe, setting the IR scale of conformal and chiral flavor symmetry breakdown. We show that when the minimal extension is positive definite and additional spin is turned on, the induced w…
The maximal four-dimensional supergravity with a dyonic ISO(7) gauging that arises from the reduction of massive IIA on a six-sphere has recently been shown to accommodate static BPS black holes with hyperbolic horizons. When restricted to the N=2 subsector that retains one vector multiplet and the universal hypermultiplet, the attractor mechanism was shown to fix both the vector charges and the scalar fields at the horizon to a unique configuration in terms of the gauging parameters. In order to assess the (non-)uniqueness of BPS black hole horizons from massive IIA, we extend the study of th…
We consider spacelike warped AdS$_{3}$ black hole metric in Boyer-Lindquist coordinate system. We present a coordinates transformation so that it maps metric in Boyer-Lindquist coordinates to the one in Gaussian null coordinates. Then we introduce new fall-off conditions near the horizon of non-extremal warped black holes. We study the near horizon symmetry algebra of such solutions in the context of Generalized minimal massive gravity. Similar to the black flower solutions, also we obtain the Heisenberg algebra as the near horizon symmetry algebra of the warped black flower solutions. We show…
We consider a metric which describes Ba$\tilde{\text{n}}$ados geometries and show that the considered metric is a solution of generalized minimal massive gravity (GMMG) model. We consider the Killing vector field which preserves the form of considered metric. Using the off-shell quasi-local approach we obtain the asymptotic conserved charges of given solution. Similar to the Einstein gravity in the presence of negative cosmological constant, for the GMMG model also, we show that the algebra among the asymptotic conserved charges is isomorphic to two copies of the Virasoro algebra. Eventually, …
We discuss the dynamics and thermodynamics of particle and D-brane probes moving in non-extremal black hole/brane backgrounds. When a probe falls from asymptotic infinity to the horizon, it transforms its potential energy into heat, $TdS$, which is absorbed by the black hole in a way consistent with the first law of thermodynamics. We show that the same remains true in the near-horizon limit, for BPS probes only, with the BPS probe moving from AdS infinity to the horizon. This is a quantitative indication that the brane-probe reaching the horizon corresponds to thermalization in gauge theory. …
It is well known that de Sitter(dS) black holes generally have a black hole horizon and a cosmological horizon, both of which have Hawking radiation. But the radiation temperature of the two horizons is generally different, so dS black holes do not meet the requirements of thermal equilibrium stability, which brings certain difficulties to the study of the thermodynamic characteristics of black holes. In this paper, dS black hole is regarded as a thermodynamic system, and the effective thermodynamic quantities of the system are obtained. The influence of various state parameters on the effecti…
We consider the Generalized Minimal Massive Gravity (GMMG) model in the first order formalism. We show that all the solutions of the Einstein gravity with negative cosmological constants solve the equations of motion of considered model. Then we find an expression for the off-shell conserved charges of this model. By considering the near horizon geometry of a three dimensional black hole in the Gaussian null coordinates, we find near horizon conserved charges and their algebra. The obtained algebra is centrally extended. By writing the algebra of conserved charges in terms of Fourier modes and…
We propose a new thermalization scenario for heavy ion collisions which at sufficiently high energies implies the phase transition to the quark--gluon plasma. The key ingredient of our approach is the Hawking--Unruh effect: an observer moving with an acceleration $a$ experiences the influence of a thermal bath with an effective temperature $T = a / 2π$, similar to the one present in the vicinity of a black hole horizon. For electric charges moving in external electromagnetic fields of realistic strength, the resulting temperature appears too small to be detected. However for partons in strong …
In this work, we investigate the near horizon and asymptotic symmetries of static and rotating hairy$-$AdS black hole in the framework of general minimal massive gravity. We obtain energy, angular momentum and entropy of the solutions. Then we show that our results for these quantities are consistent with the first law of black hole thermodynamics. By considering the near horizon geometry of black hole, we find near horizon conserved charges and their algebra. By writing the algebra of conserved charges in terms of Fourier modes we have obtained the conserved charges in terms of zero modes.
Based on our recent work on the discretization of the radial AdS$_2$ geometry of extremal BH horizons,we present a toy model for the chaotic unitary evolution of infalling single particle wave packets. We construct explicitly the eigenstates and eigenvalues for the single particle dynamics for an observer falling into the BH horizon, with time evolution operator the quantum Arnol'd cat map (QACM). Using these results we investigate the validity of the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH), as well as that of the fast scrambling time bound (STB). We find that the QACM, while possessing a l…
In this paper we analyze the effect of the massive deformation of the ABJM model on the calculation of conductivity of the dual theory. We show that some of the difficulties presented by the dual geometry, in particular the construction of black holes therein, can be at least partially circumvented by adopting a membrane paradigm-like computation of the conductivity, which requires us to know just the effect of the deformation on the {\it horizon} of a black hole in AdS${}_{4}$. The deformation at the horizon itself is found by first deforming the flat space near the horizon, and then using th…
When starting with a static, spherically-symmetric ansatz, there are two types of black hole solutions in dRGT massive gravity: (i) exact Schwarzschild solutions which exhibit no Yukawa suppression at large distances and (ii) solutions in which the dynamical metric and the reference metric are simultaneously diagonal and which inevitably exhibit coordinate-invariant singularities at the horizon. In this work we investigate the possibility of black hole solutions which can accommodate both a non-singular horizon and Yukawa asymptotics. In particular, by adopting a time-dependent ansatz, we deri…
We analyze the evolution of a homogenous and pressureless ball of dust (or "star") in ghost-free massive gravity on de Sitter spacetime. We find that gravitational collapse does not take place for all parameters of the massive gravity theory. For parameters where it does occur, we find the expression for the location of the apparent horizon where it crosses the surface of the star, indicating the location of the apparent horizon of the vacuum solution at that moment. We determine the Ricci curvature at the boundary of the star and extract the finite correction to the curvature of the apparent …
By calculating the change of entropy, we prove that the first law of black hole thermodynamics leads to the tunneling probability of massive particles through the horizon, including the tunneling probability of massive charged particles from the Reissner-Nordström black hole and the Kerr-Newman black hole. Novelly, we find the trajectories of massive particles are close to that of massless particles near the horizon, although the trajectories of massive charged particles may be affected by electromagnetic forces. We show that Hawking radiation as massive particles tunneling does not lead to vi…
Using the {\it off-shell} Noether current and potential we compute the entropy for the AdS black holes in new massive gravity. For the non-extremal BTZ black holes by implementing the so-called stretched horizon approach we reproduce the correct expression for the horizon entropy. For the extremal case, we adopt standard formalism in the AdS/CFT correspondence and reproduce the corresponding entropy by computing the central extension term on the asymptotic boundary of the near horizon geometry. We explicitly show the invariance of the angular momentum along the radial direction for extremal as…
Building on general formulas obtained from the approximate renormalized effective action, the stress-energy tensor of the quantized massive spinor and vector fields in the spacetime of the regular black hole is constructed. Such a black hole is the solution to the coupled system of nonlinear electrodynamics and general relativity. A detailed analytical and numerical analysis of the stress-energy tensor in the exterior region is presented. It is shown that for small values of the charge as well as large distances from the black hole the leading behavior of the stress-energy tensor is similar to…
On the basis of the state parameter of de Sitter space-time satisfying the first law of thermodynamics,we can derive some effective thermodynamic quantities. When the temperature of the black hole horizon is equal to that of the cosmological horizon, we think that the effective temperature of the space-time should have the same value. Using this condition, we obtain a differential equation of the entropy of the de Sitter black hole in the higherdimensional de Rham, Gabadadze and Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity. Solving the differential equation, we obtain the corrected entropy and effective therm…
We examine the absorption cross section of the massive scalar field for the higher-dimensional extended object. Adopting the usual quantum mechanical matching conditions between the asymptotic and near-horizon solutions in radial equation, we check whether or not the universal property of the absorption cross section, which is that the low-energy cross section is proportional to the surface area of horizon, is maintained when the mass effect is involved. It is found that the mass effect in general does not break the universal property of the cross section if particular conditions are required …
Applying Clausius relation with energy-supply defined by the unified first law of thermodynamics formalism to the apparent horizon of a massive cosmological model proposed lately, the corrected entropic formula of the apparent horizon is obtained with the help of the modified Friedmann equations. This entropy-area relation, together with the identified internal energy, verifies the first law of thermodynamics for the apparent horizon with a volume change term for consistency. On the other hand, by means of the corrected entropy-area formula and the Clausius relation $δQ=T dS$, the modified Fri…
We derive in detail several universal features in the time evolution of entanglement entropy and other nonlocal observables in quenched holographic systems. The quenches are such that a spatially uniform density of energy is injected at an instant in time, exciting a strongly coupled CFT which eventually equilibrates. Such quench processes are described on the gravity side by the gravitational collapse of a thin shell that results in a black hole. Various nonlocal observables have a unified description in terms of the area of extremal surfaces of different dimensions. In the large distance lim…
Generically, massive gravity gives a non-unique gravitational field around a star. For a special family of massive gravity theories, we show that the stellar gravitational field is unique and observationally acceptable, that is close to Einsteinian. The black hole solutions in this family of theories are also studied and shown to be peculiar. Black holes have a near-horizon throat and the curvature diverging at the horizon. We show that there exists a sub-family of these massive gravity theories with non-singular at horizon black holes.
We discuss the behaviour of massive modes near a horizon based on a study of the dispersion relation and wave packet simulations of the Klein-Gordon equation. We point out an apparent paradox between two (in principle equivalent) pictures of black hole evaporation through Hawking radiation. In the picture in which the evaporation is due to the emission of positive-energy modes, one immediately obtains a threshold for the emission of massive particles. In the picture in which the evaporation is due to the absorption of negative-energy modes, such a threshold apparently does not exist. We resolv…
Einstein's General theory of relativity is plagued by cosmological and blackhole type singularities Recently, it has been shown that infinite derivative, ghost free, gravity can yield non-singular cosmological and mini-blackhole solutions. In particular, the theory possesses a {\it mass-gap} determined by the scale of new physics. We will use this property to argue that it is possible to form a non-singular super-massive compact objects without having any event horizon in this class of theories.
In this letter we calculate the gravitational waves (GWs) emitted from a small binary (SB) by solving the Teukolsky equation in the background of a massive exotic compact object (ECO) which is phenomenologically described by a Schwarzschild geometry with a reflective boundary condition at its "would-be" horizon. The "continuous echo" waves propagating to infinity due to reflectivity of ECO at its "would-be" horizon provide an exquisite probe to the nature of the ECO's horizon.
Massive charged and uncharged particles tunneling from commutative Reissner-Nordstrom black hole horizon has been studied with details in literature. Here, by adopting the coherent state picture of spacetime noncommutativity, we study tunneling of massive and charged particles from a noncommutative inspired Reissner-Nordstrom black hole horizon. We show that Hawking radiation in this case is not purely thermal and there are correlations between emitted modes. These correlations may provide a solution to the information loss problem. We also study thermodynamics of noncommutative horizon in thi…
We prove that Killing horizons in massive IIA supergravity preserve an even number of supersymmetries, and that their symmetry algebra contains an $\mathfrak{sl}(2, R)$ subalgebra, confirming the conjecture of [5]. We also prove a new class of Lichnerowicz type theorems for connections of the spin bundle whose holonomy is contained in a general linear group.
We present an exact solution in 3-dimensional topologically massive gravity with negative cosmological constant which dynamically interpolates between a past horizon and a chiral AdS pp-wave. Similarly, upon time reversal, one obtains an AdS pp-wave with a future event horizon
We study the time evolution of the Misner-Sharp mass and the apparent horizon for gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in the $AdS_{5}$ space-time for both cases of narrow and broad waves by numerically solving the Einstein's equations coupled to a massless scalar field. This is done by relying on the full dynamics of the collapse including the concept of the dynamical horizon. It turns out that the Misner-Sharp mass is everywhere constant except for a rapid change across a thin shell defined by the density profile of the collapsing wave. By studying the evolution of the apparent …
We introduce the Einstein-Yang-Mills AdS black brane solution in context of massive gravity. The ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density is calculated for this solution. This value violates the KSS bound if we apply the Dirichlet boundary and regularity on the horizon conditions.
In this paper we compute the correction to the entropy of Schwarzschild black hole due to the vacuum polarization effect of massive scalar field. The Schwarzschild black hole is supposed to be confined in spherical shell. The scalar field obeying mixed boundary condition on the spherical shell.
We analytically investigate the quasinormal modes of the massive scalar field with a nonminimal coupling in the higher-dimensional de Sitter black hole with a single rotation. According to the separated scalar field equation, the boundary conditions of quasinormal modes are well constructed at the outer and cosmological horizons. Then, under near-extremal conditions, where the outer horizon closes to the cosmological horizon, the quasinormal frequencies are obtained and generalized to universal form in the higher-dimensional spacetime. Here, the real part of the frequency includes the scalar f…
Near horizon Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) like symmetry is spontaneously broken by the black hole background itself and hence gives rise to Goldstone mode. The associated Goldstone mode for the near horizon BMS like symmetry of a Schwarzschild black hole was found to behave like inverted harmonic oscillators, which has been further shown to lead to thermodynamic temperature in the semi-classical regime. Here we investigate the generalization of this previous findings for the Kerr black hole. The analysis is being performed for two different situations. Firstly, we analyze Goldstone mode dynamics …
