Building on general formulas obtained from the approximate renormalized effective action, the stress-energy tensor of the quantized massive spinor and vector fields in the spacetime of the regular black hole is constructed. Such a black hole is the solution to the coupled system of nonlinear electrodynamics and general relativity. A detailed analytical and numerical analysis of the stress-energy tensor in the exterior region is presented. It is shown that for small values of the charge as well as large distances from the black hole the leading behavior of the stress-energy tensor is similar to that in the Reissner-Nordström geometry. Important differences appear when the inner horizon becomes close to the event horizon. A special emphasis is put on the extremal configuration and it is shown that the stress-energy tensor is regular inside the event horizon of the extremal black hole.
In this paper we present exact solutions to the so-called Elko spinors for three models of expanding universe, namely the de Sitter, linear and the radiation type evolution. The study was restrict to flat, homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker backgrounds. Starting with an Elko spinor we present the solutions for these cases and compared to the case of Dirac spinors. Besides, an attempt to use Elko spinors as a dark energy candidate in the cosmological context is investigated.
In this paper we study Dirac-Hestenes spinor fields (DHSF) on a four-dimensional Riemann-Cartan spacetime (RCST). We prove that these fields must be defined as certain equivalence classes of even sections of the Clifford bundle (over the RCST), thereby being certain particular sections of a new bundle named Spin-Clifford bundle (SCB). The conditions for the existence of the SCB are studied and are shown to be equivalent to the famous Geroch's theorem concerning to the existence of spinor structures in a Lorentzian spacetime. We introduce also the covariant and algebraic Dirac spinor fields and…
We compute the one-loop potential (the Casimir energy) for scalar, spinor and vectors fields on the spaces $\,R^{m+1}\, \times\,Y$ with $\,Y=\,S^N\,,CP^2$. As a physical model we consider spinor electrodynamics on four-dimensional product manifolds. We examine the cancelation of a divergent part of the Casimir energy on even-dimensional spaces by means of including the parameter $\,M$ in original action. For some models we compare our results with those found in the literature.
We solve the Killing spinor equations of 6-dimensional (1,0)-supergravity coupled to any number of tensor, vector and scalar multiplets in all cases. The isotropy groups of Killing spinors are $Sp(1)\cdot Sp(1)\ltimes \bH (1)$, $U(1)\cdot Sp(1)\ltimes \bH (2)$, $Sp(1)\ltimes \bH (3,4)$, $Sp(1) (2)$, $U(1) (4)$ and $\{1\} (8)$, where in parenthesis is the number of supersymmetries preserved in each case. If the isotropy group is non-compact, the spacetime admits a parallel null 1-form with respect to a connection with torsion the 3-form field strength of the gravitational multiplet. The associa…
We solve the Killing spinor equations of supersymmetric IIB backgrounds which admit one supersymmetry and the Killing spinor has stability subgroup G_2 in Spin(9,1) x U(1). We find that such backgrounds admit a time-like Killing vector field and the geometric structure of the spacetime reduces from Spin(9,1) x U(1) to G_2. We determine the type of G_2 structure that the spacetime admits by computing the covariant derivatives of the spacetime forms associated with the Killing spinor bilinears. We also solve the Killing spinor equations of backgrounds with two supersymmetries and Spin(7)\ltimes …
We investigate the Killing spinor equations of IIB supergravity for one Killing spinor. We show that there are three types of orbits of Spin(9,1) in the space of Weyl spinors which give rise to Killing spinors with stability subgroups $Spin(7)\ltimes \bR^8$, $SU(4)\ltimes \bR^8$ and $G_2$. We solve the Killing spinor equations for the $Spin(7)\ltimes \bR^8$ and $SU(4)\ltimes \bR^8$ invariant spinors, give the fluxes in terms of the geometry and determine the conditions on the spacetime geometry imposed by supersymmetry. In both cases, the spacetime admits a null, self-parallel, Killing vector …
In the framework of strong-field QED with $x$-steps, we study vacuum mean values of the current density and energy--momentum tensor of the quantized spinor field placed in the so-called $L$-constant electric background. The latter background can be, for example, understood as the electric field confined between capacitor plates, which are separated by a sufficiently large distance $L$. First, we reveal peculiarities of nonperturbative calculating of mean values in strong-field QED with $x$-steps in general and, in the $L$-constant electric field, in particular. We propose a new renormalization…
A singular configuration of an external static vector field in the form of a magnetic string polarizes the vacuum of a second-quantized theory on the plane orthogonal to the string axis. The most general boundary conditions at the punctured singular point that are compatible with the self-adjointness of two-dimensional Dirac Hamiltonian are considered. The dependences of the induced vacuum quantum numbers on the parameter of the self-adjoint extension, on the string flux, and on the choice of irreducible representation of the matrices in (2+1)-dimensional spacetime are disscussed.
Connes has extended Einstein's principle of general relativity to noncommutative geometry. The new principle implies that the Dirac operator is covariant with respect to Lorentz and internal gauge transformations and the Dirac operator must include Yukawa couplings. It further implies that the action for the metric, the gauge potentials and the Higgs scalar is coded in the spectrum of the covariant Dirac operator. This ``universal'' action has been computed by Chamseddine & Connes, it is the coupled Einstein-Hilbert and Yang-Mills-Higgs action. This result is rederived and we discuss the physi…
We write down an explicit projection that maps any given 4-spinor to a point in 3+1 spacetime while commuting with the Lorentz action. This suggests that a Lorentz invariant theory - including spacetime itself - has a more natural expression in terms of these primitive spinor variables, while an ordinary spacetime interpretation may be obtained by projecting solutions. Using this projection, we show how the real components of a given 4-spinor reference a point in a five dimensional spacetime.
We consider supersymmetry algebras in arbitrary spacetime dimension and signature. Minimal and maximal superalgebras are given for single and extended supersymmetry. It is seen that the supersymmetric extensions are uniquely determined by the properties of the spinor representation, which depend on the dimension $D$ mod 8 and the signature $|ρ|$ mod 8 of spacetime.
Penrose's spinor calculus of 4-dimensional Lorentzian geometry is extended to the case of 5-dimensional Lorentzian geometry. Such fruitful ideas in Penrose's spinor calculus as the spin covariant derivative, the curvature spinors or the definition of the spin coefficients on a spin frame can be carried over to the spinor calculus in 5-dimensional Lorentzian geometry. The algebraic and differential properties of the curvature spinors are studied in detail and as an application we extend the well-known 4-dimensional Newman-Penrose formalism to a 5-dimensional spacetime.
We show how the Killing spinors of some maximally supersymmetric supergravity solutions whose metrics describe symmetric spacetimes (including $AdS,AdS\times S$ and H$pp$-waves) can be easily constructed using purely geometrical and group-theoretical methods. The calculation of the supersymmetry algebras is extremely simple in this formalism.
In this paper we explicitly evaluate the one-loop effective action in four dimensions for scalar and spinor fields under the influence of a strong, covariantly constant, magnetic field in curved spacetime. In the framework of zeta function regularization, we find the one-loop effective action to all orders in the magnetic field up to linear terms in the Riemannian curvature. As a particular case, we also obtain the one-loop effective action for massless scalar and spinor fields. In this setting, we found that the vacuum energy of charged spinors with small mass becomes very large due entirely …
The spinor-helicity formalism is an essential technique of the amplitudes community. We draw on this method to construct a scheme for classifying higher-dimensional spacetimes in the style of the four-dimensional Petrov classification and the Newman-Penrose formalism. We focus on the five-dimensional case for concreteness. Our spinorial scheme naturally reproduces the full structure previously seen in both the CMPP and de Smet classifications, and resolves longstanding questions concerning the relationship between the two classifications.
We solve the Killing spinor equations of standard and massive IIA supergravities for a Killing spinor whose isotropy subgroup in Spin(9, 1) is SU(4) and identify the geometry of the spacetime. We demonstrate that the Killing spinor equations impose some mild constraints on the geometry of the spacetime which include the existence of a time-like Killing vector field which leaves the fields and the Killing spinor invariant.
We revisit the subject exploring maps from the space of 4-spinors to 3+1 space-time that commute with the Lorentz transformation. All known mappings have a natural embedding in a higher five dimensional spacetime, and can be succinctly expressed as products of quaternions, or split-quaternions, depending on the signature of the embedding 5D spacetime. It is in this sense that we may view the geometry of 4-spinors as being related to the `square root' of five dimensional spacetime. In particular, a point in 5D spacetime may be identified with a corresponding 4-spinor that is uniquely determined…
In the background of a stationary black hole, the "conserved current" of a particular spinor field always approaches the null Killing vector on the horizon. What's more, when the black hole is asymptotically flat and when the coordinate system is asymptotically static, then the same current also approaches the time Killing vector at the spatial infinity. We test these results against various black hole solutions and no exception is found. The spinor field only needs to satisfy a very general and simple constraint.
The article is a natural continuation of our paper {\em Quantum scalar field in FRW Universe with constant electromagnetic background}, Int. J. Mod. Phys. {\bf A12}, 4837 (1997). We generalize the latter consideration to the case of massive spinor field, which is placed in FRW Universe of special type with a constant electromagnetic field. To this end special sets of exact solutions of Dirac equation in the background under consideration are constructed and classified. Using these solutions representations for out-in, in-in, and out-out spinor Green functions are explicitly constructed as prop…
We derive, for spacetimes admitting a Spin(7) structure, the general local bosonic solution of the Killing spinor equation of eleven dimensional supergravity. The metric, four form and Killing spinors are determined explicitly, up to an arbitrary eight-manifold of Spin(7) holonomy. It is sufficient to impose the Bianchi identity and one particular component of the four form field equation to ensure that the solution of the Killing spinor equation also satisfies all the field equations, and we give these conditions explicitly.
Effects due to fermion-vacuum polarization by an external static magnetic field are considered in a two-dimensional noncompact curved space with a nontrivial topology. An expression for the vacuun angular momentum is obtained. Like the vacuum fermion number, it proves to be dependent on the global characteristics of the field and space.
Starting with a classical action whose matter variables are a d=10 spacetime vector $x^m$ and a pure spinor $λ^α$, the pure spinor formalism for the superstring is obtained by gauge-fixing the twistor-like constraint $\partial x^m (γ_m λ)_α=0$. The fermionic variables $θ^α$ are Faddeev-Popov ghosts coming from this gauge-fixing and replace the usual (b,c) ghosts coming from gauge-fixing the Virasoro constraint. After twisting the ghost-number such that $θ^α$ has ghost-number zero and $λ^α$ has ghost-number one, the BRST cohomology describes the usual spacetime supersymmetric states of the supe…
In many mathematical and physical contexts spinors are treated as Grassmann odd valued fields. We show that it is possible to extend the classification of reality conditions on such spinors by a new type of Majorana condition. In order to define this graded Majorana condition we make use of pseudo-conjugation, a rather unfamiliar extension of complex conjugation to supernumbers. Like the symplectic Majorana condition, the graded Majorana condition may be imposed, for example, in spacetimes in which the standard Majorana condition is inconsistent. However, in contrast to the symplectic conditio…
We investigated action of operator analogs of Dirac gamma matrices (we called them gamma operators) on a vacuum. We derived formulas for vacuum state vector and operators of the Lorentz transformations of spinors in the superalgebraic representation of spinors. Five operator analogs of five Dirac gamma matrices exist in the superalgebraic approach as well as two additional operator analogs of gamma matrices. Gamma operators are constructed from Grassmann densities and derivatives with respect to them. We have shown that there are operators which are built from creation and annihilation operato…
We consider spinor representations of the conformal group. The spacetime is constructed by the 15-dimensional vectors in the adjoint representation of $SO(2,4)$. On the spacetime, we construct a gravitational model that is invariant under local transformation.
Flagpole and flag-dipole spinors are particular classes of spinor fields that has been recently used in different branches of theoretical physics. In this paper, we study the possibility and consequences of these spinor fields to induce an underlying fluid flow structure in the background of Kerr spacetimes. We show that flag-dipole spinor fields are solutions of the equations of motion in this context. To our knowledge, this is the second time that this class of spinor field appears as a physical solution, the first one occurring as a solution of the Dirac equation in ESK gravities.
Benefiting from the index spinorial formalism, the Killing spinor equation is integrated in six-dimensional spacetimes. The integrability conditions for the existence of a Killing spinor are worked out and the Killing spinors are classified in two algebraic types, in the first type the scalar curvature of the spacetime must be negative, while in the second type the spacetime must be an Einstein manifold. In addition, the equations that define Killing-Yano (KY) and closed conformal Killing-Yano (CCKY) tensors are expressed in the index notation and, as consequence, all non-vanishing KY and CCKY…
We consider scalar and spinor particles in the spacetime of a domain wall in the context of low energy effective string theories, such as the generalized scalar-tensor gravity theories. This class of theories allows for an arbitrary coupling of the wall and the (gravitational) scalar field. First, we derive the metric of a wall in the weak-field approximation and we show that it depends on the wall's surface energy density and on two post-Newtonian parameters. Then, we solve the Klein-Gordon and the Dirac equations in this spacetime. We obtain the spectrum of energy eigenvalues and the current…
We found the contribution to the vacuum expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor of a massive Dirac field due to the conical geometry of the cosmic string space-time. The heat kernel and heat kernel expansion for the squared Dirac operator in this background are also considered and the first three coefficients were found in an explicity form.
Two-dimensional space with a topological defect is a transverse section of three-dimensional space with the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortex, i.e. a gauge-flux-carrying tube which is impenetrable for quantum matter. Charged spinor matter field is quantized in this section with the most general mathematically admissible boundary condition at the edge of the defect. We show that a current and a magnetic field are induced in the vacuum. The dependence of the results on boundary conditions is studied, and we find that the requirement of finiteness of the total induced vacuum magnetic flux removes a…
In this paper, we compute the effective action of both a scalar field and a Dirac spinor field in the global de Sitter space of any dimension $d$ using the in-/out-state formalism. We show that there is particle production in even dimensions for both scalar field and spinor field. The in-out vacuum amplitude $Z_{in/out}$ is divergent at late times. By using dimensional regularization, we extract the finite part of $\log Z_{in/out}$ for $d$ even and the logarithmically divergent part of $\log Z_{in/out}$ for $d$ odd. We also find that the regularized in-out vacuum amplitude equals the ratio of …
Exact solutions to an Einstein-Maxwell(E-D-M) system with an electric current are simple models of global cosmic magnetic phenomena in the universe. In this paper, we consider an E-D-M system with two chiral spinors $ ψ^\pm$ coupled with a gauge field $ A$ and an electromagnetic field $F=dA$. We construct a family of exact solutions to the E-D-M system on four-dimensional static Sasakian spacetimes. The electromagnetic field in the solutions is a contact magnetic field, and the chiral spinors are induced from Sasakian quasi-Killing spinors. We find closed universe models whose weak energy cond…
The propagation of gravitational waves on the background of a nonperturbative vacuum of a spinor field is considered. It is shown that there are several distinctive features in comparison with the propagation of plane gravitational waves through empty space: there exists the fixed phase difference between the $h_{yy,zz}$ and $h_{yz}$ components of the wave; the phase and group velocities of gravitational waves are not equal to the velocity of light; the group velocity is always less than the velocity of light; under some conditions the gravitational waves are either damped or absent; for given…
We present a systematic attempt at classification of supersymmetric M-theory vacua with zero flux; that is, eleven-dimensional lorentzian manifolds with vanishing Ricci curvature and admitting covariantly constant spinors. We show that there are two distinct classes of solutions: static spacetimes generalising the Kaluza-Klein monopole, and non-static spacetimes generalising the supersymmetric wave. The classification can be further refined by the holonomy group of the spacetime. The static solutions are organised according to the holonomy group of the spacelike hypersurface, whereas the non-s…
We derive a discrete path integral for massless fermions on a hypercubic spacetime lattice with null faces. The amplitude for a path with N steps and B bends is +/- (1/2)^N (i/sqrt{3})^B.
We explore the possibility that the expansion of the universe can be driven by a condensate of spinors which are free of interactions on a 5D relativistic vacuum defined on an extended de Sitter spacetime which is Riemann-flat. The extra coordinate is considered as noncompact. After making a static foliation on the extra coordinate, we obtain an effective 4D (inflationary) de Sitter expansion which describes an inflationary universe. We found that the condensate of spinors here studied could be an interesting candidate to explain the presence of dark energy in the early universe. The dark ener…
What is the physical origin of dark energy? Could this energy be originated by other fields than the inflaton? In this work we explore the possibility that the expansion of the universe can be driven by a condensate of spinors. These spinors are free of interactions on 5D relativistic vacuum in an extended de Sitter spacetime. The extra coordinate is considered as noncompact. After making a static foliation on the extra coordinate, we obtain an effective 4D (inflationary) de Sitter expansion which describes an inflationary universe. In view of our results we conclude that the condensate of spi…
In the Dirac-Weyl equation that describes massless neutrino propagation in the minimal Standard Model, the ($2\times 2$ equivalence of the) gamma matrices convert Weyl spinors into spacetime tensors, and vice versa. They can thus be regarded as amalgamations of three different types of mappings, one that connects particle spinors directly forming representations to internal gauge symmetries to their spacetime counterparts that are embodied by null flags, another that translates the spacetime spinors into their corresponding tensors expressed in an orthonormal tetrad, and finally a purely tenso…
We describe the geometry of all type II common sector backgrounds with two supersymmetries. In particular, we determine the spacetime geometry of those supersymmetric backgrounds for which each copy of the Killing spinor equations admits a Killing spinor. The stability subgroups of both Killing spinors are $Spin(7)\ltimes \bR^8$, $SU(4)\ltimes \bR^8$ and $G_2$ for IIB backgrounds, and $Spin(7)$, SU(4) and $G_2\ltimes \bR^8$ for IIA backgrounds. We show that the spacetime of backgrounds with spinors that have stability subgroup $K\ltimes \bR^8$ is a pp-wave propagating in an eight-dimensional m…
Charged spinor matter field is quantized in a spatial region bounded by two parallel neutral plates. The most general set of boundary conditions ensuring the confinement of matter within the plates is considered. We study a response of the vacuum of the confined matter to the background uniform magnetic field which is directed orthogonally to the plates. It is proven that, in the case of a sufficiently strong magnetic field, the vacuum pressure onto the plates is positive and independent of the boundary condition, as well as of the distance between the plates.
We study the relations of the positive frequency mode functions of Dirac field in 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime covered with Rindler and Kasner coordinates, and describe the explicit form of the Minkowski vacuum state with the quantum states in Kasner and Rindler regions, and analytically continue the solutions. As a result, we obtain the correspondence of the positive frequency mode functions in Kasner region and Rindler region in a unified manner which derives vacuum entanglement.
Using the map between free massless spinors on d+1 dimensional Minkowski spacetime and free massive spinors on $dS_{d+1}$, we obtain the boundary term that should be added to the standard Dirac action for spinors in the dS/CFT correspondence. It is shown that this map can be extended only to theories with vertex $({\bar\p}\p)^2$ but arbitrary $d\ge1$. In the case of scalar field theories such an extension can be made only for $d=2,3,5$ with vertices $ϕ^6$, $ϕ^4$ and $ϕ^3$ respectively.
Exact analytical solutions are presented for the time evolution of the density of pairs produced in the QED vacuum by a time-independent, uniform electric field. The mathematical tool used here to describe the pair production is the Dirac-Heisenberg-Wigner function introduced before [Phys. Rev. D 44, 1825 (1991)]. The initial value problem for this function is solved by decomposing the solution into a product of spinors. The equations for spinors are much simpler and are solved analytically. These calculations are nonperturbative since pair production is due to quantum-mechanical tunneling and…
In spinor formalism, since any massless free-field spinor with spin higher than $1/2$ can be constructed with spin-1/2 spinors (Dirac-Weyl spinors) and scalars, we introduce a map between Weyl fields and Dirac-Weyl fields. We determine the corresponding Dirac-Weyl spinors in a given empty spacetime. Regarding them as basic units, other higher spin massless free-field spinors are then identified. Along this way, we find some hidden fundamental features related to these fields. In particular, for non-twisting vacuum Petrov type N solutions, we show that all higher spin massless free-field spinor…
Exotic dark spinor fields are introduced and investigated in the context of inequivalent spin structures on arbitrary curved spacetimes, which induces an additional term on the associated Dirac operator, related to a Cech cohomology class. For the most kinds of spinor fields, any exotic term in the Dirac operator can be absorbed and encoded as a shift of the electromagnetic vector potential representing an element of the cohomology group H^1(M, Z_2). The possibility of concealing such an exotic term does not exist in case of dark (ELKO) spinor fields, as they cannot carry electromagnetic charg…
In this work we explore the boundary conditions in the Einstein-Hilbert action, by considering a displacement from the Riemannian manifold to an extended one. The latter is characterized by including spinor fields into the quantum geometric description of a noncommutative spacetime. These fields are defined on the background spacetime, emerging from the expectation value of the quantum structure of spacetime generated by matrices that comply with a Clifford algebra. We demonstrate that spinor fields are candidate to describe all known interactions in physics, with gravitation included. In this…
An approximate model of the spacetime foam is offered in which a quantum handle (wormhole) is a 5D wormhole-like solution. Neglecting the linear sizes of the wormhole throat we can introduce a spinor field for an approximate and effective description of the foam. The definition of the spinor field can be made by a dynamic and non-dynamic ways. In the first case some field equations are used and the second case leads to superspace. It is shown that : the spacetime with the foam is similar to a dielectric with dipoles and supergravity theories with a non-minimal interaction between spinor and el…
We derive necessary conditions for the spinorial Witten-Nester energy to be well-defined for asymptotically locally AdS spacetimes. We find that the conformal boundary should admit a spinor satisfying certain differential conditions and in odd dimensions the boundary metric should be conformally Einstein. We show that these conditions are satisfied by asymptotically AdS spacetimes. The gravitational energy (obtained using the holographic stress energy tensor) and the spinorial energy are equal in even dimensions and differ by a bounded quantity related to the conformal anomaly in odd dimension…
Classification of quantum spinor fields according to quantum bilinear covariants is introduced in a context of quantum Clifford algebras on Minkowski spacetime. Once the bilinear covariants are expressed in terms of algebraic spinor fields, the duality between spinor and quantum spinor fields is thus discussed. Hence, by endowing the underlying spacetime with an arbitrary bilinear form with a antisymmetric part in addition to a symmetric spacetime metric, quantum algebraic spinor fields and deformed bilinear covariants can be constructed. They are therefore compared to the classical (non quant…
