Recent advances in quantum engineering have given us the ability to design hybrid systems with novel properties normally not present in the regime they operate in. The coupling of spin ensembles and magnons to microwave resonators has for instance lead to a much richer understanding of collective effects in these systems and their potential quantum applications. We can also hybridize electron and nuclear spin ensembles together in the solid-state regime to investigate collective effects normally only observed in the atomic, molecular and optical world. Here we explore in the solid state regime the dynamics of a double domain nuclear spin ensemble coupled to the Nambu-Goldstone boson in GaAs semiconductors and show it exhibits both collective and individual relaxation (thermalization) on very different time scales. Further the collective relaxation of the nuclear spin ensemble is what one would expect from superradiant decay. This opens up the possibility for the exploration of novel collective behaviour in solid state systems where the natural energies associated with those spins are much less than the thermal energy.
The interplay between the confinement potential and electron-electron interactions causes reconstructions of Quantum Hall edges. We study the consequences of this edge reconstruction for the relaxation of hot electrons injected into integer quantum Hall edge states. In translationally invariant edges, the relaxation of hot electrons is governed by three-body collisions which are sensitive to the electron dispersion and thus to reconstruction effects. We show that the relaxation rates are significantly altered in different reconstruction scenarios.
We demonstrated a method to probe local electronic states and energy relaxation in quantum Hall edge states utilizing quantum point contacts. We evaluated relaxation lengths in two cases; first, with electron tunneling, and second, only with energy exchange without tunneling between edge states. The results were consistent with previous experiments and validated our method with quantum point contacts. We applied this method to measure the energy relaxation length around a hotspot in quantum Hall regimes and revealed the possible short-distance relaxation process to be the relaxation due to ene…
Electron spin relaxation in a spin-polarized quantum Hall state is studied. Long spin relaxation times that are at least an order of magnitude longer than those measured in previous experiments were observed and explained within the spin-exciton relaxation formalism. Absence of any dependence of the spin relaxation time on the electron temperature and on the spin-exciton density, and specific dependence on the magnetic field indicate the definite relaxation mechanism -- spin-exciton annihilation mediated by spin-orbit coupling and smooth random potential.
A unified approach to decoherence and relaxation of energy resolved single electron excitations in Integer Quantum Hall edge channels is presented. Within the bosonization framework, relaxation and decoherence induced by interactions and capacitive coupling to an external linear circuit are computed. An explicit connexion with high frequency transport properties of a two terminal device formed by the edge channel on one side and the linear circuit on the other side is established.
We discuss the spin relaxation of a strongly correlated two-dimensional (2D) electron gas (2DEG) in the quantized Hall regime when the filling factor is close to an odd-integer. As the initial state we consider a coherent deviation of the spin system from the ${\bf B}$ direction and investigate a break-down of this Goldstone-mode state due to the spin-orbit (SO) coupling and smooth disorder. The spin relaxation (SR) process is considered in terms of annihilation transitions in the system of spin excitons (magnons).
We study the mechanism of nuclear spin relaxation in quantum dots due to the electron exchange with 2D gas. We show that the nuclear spin relaxation rate is dramatically affected by the Coulomb blockade and can be controlled by gate voltage. In the case of strong spin-orbit coupling the relaxation rate is maximal in the Coulomb blockade valleys whereas for the weak spin-orbit coupling the maximum of the nuclear spin relaxation rate is near the Coulomb blockade peaks.
We have developed a method for electrical polarization of nuclear spins in quantum Hall systems. In a breakdown regime of odd-integer quantum Hall effect (QHE), excitation of electrons to the upper Landau subband with opposite spin polarity dynamically polarizes nuclear spins through the hyperfine interaction. The polarized nuclear spins in turn accelerate the QHE breakdown, leading to hysteretic voltage-current characteristics of the quantum Hall conductor.
We present measurements on nuclear spin relaxation probed by a single quantum dot in a high-mobility electron gas. Current passing through the dot leads to a spin transfer from the electronic to the nuclear spin system. Applying electron spin resonance the transfer mechanism can directly be tuned. Additionally, the dependence of nuclear spin relaxation on the dot gate voltage is observed. We find electron-nuclear relaxation times of the order of 10 minutes.
We performed a nuclear magnetometry study on quantum Hall ferromagnet with a bilayer total filling factor of $ν_{\rm{tot}} = 2$. We found not only a rapid nuclear relaxation but also a sudden change in the nuclear spin polarization distribution after a one-second interaction with a canted antiferromagnetic phase. We discuss the possibility of observing cooperative phenomena coming from nuclear spin ensemble triggered by electrons with collective spin interactions.
Relaxation of collective plasmon inter-Landau-level excitation is determined by emission of LO-phonons or by Auger-like processes when this emission is suppressed off the magneto-phonon resonance conditions. The decay of "one-cyclotron" magneto-plasmons with wave-vectors near the roton minimum is studied under the condition of filling $ν=1$. Some features of this relaxation should be helpful for the experimental detection of the magneto-rotons in a strongly correlated 2D electron gas.
We demonstrate a new method for electrical manipulation of nuclear spins utilizing dynamic nuclear polarization induced by quantum Hall effect breakdown. Nuclear spins are polarized and detected through the hyperfine interaction between a nuclear spin system and a two-dimensional electron system located at an interface of GaAs/AlGaAs single heterostructure. Coherent oscillations between the nuclear-spin quantum states are observed by measuring the longitudinal voltage of the conductor.
We studied spatial distribution of dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) in a Hall-bar device in a breakdown regime of the quantum Hall effect (QHE). We detected nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signals from the polarized nuclear spins by measuring the Hall voltage $V_{xy}$ using three pairs of voltage probes attached to the conducting channel of the Hall bar. We find that the amplitude of the NMR signal depends on the position of the Hall voltage probes and that the largest NMR signal is obtained from the pair of probes farthest from the electron-injecting electrode. Combined with results on pum…
We study the influence of the phase relaxation process on Hall resistance and spin Hall current of a mesoscopic two-dimensional (2D) four-terminal Hall cross-bar with or without Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) in a perpendicular uniform magnetic field. We find that the plateaus of the Hall resistance with even number of edge states can survive for very strong phase relaxation when the system size becomes much longer than the phase coherence length. On the other hand, the odd integer Hall resistance plateaus arising from the SOI are easily destroyed by the weak phase relaxation during the c…
At the spin transition point of $ν=2/3$ quantum Hall states, nuclear spins in a two-dimensional electron gas are polarized by an electric current. Using GaAs/AlGaAs double-quantum-well samples, we first observed the spatial diffusion of nuclear spin polarization between the two layers when the nuclear spin polarization is current-induced in one layer. By numerical simulation, we estimated the diffusion constant of the nuclear spin polarization to be $15 \pm 7$\,nm$^2$/s.
Nuclear spins are polarized electrically in a breakdown regime of an odd-integer quantum Hall effect (QHE). Electron excitation to the upper Landau subband with the opposite spin polarity flips nuclear spins through the hyperfine interaction. The polarized nuclear spins reduce the spin-splitting energy and accelerate the QHE breakdown. The Knight shift of the nuclear spins is also measured by tuning electron density during the irradiation of radio-frequency magnetic fields.
We present dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) in the simplest pseudospin quantum Hall ferromagnet (QHF) of an InSb two-dimensional electron gas with a large g factor using tilted magnetic fields. The DNP-induced amplitude change of a resistance spike of the QHF at large current enables observation of the resistively detected nuclear magnetic resonance of the high nuclear spin isotope 115In with nine quadrupole splittings. Our results demonstrate the importance of domain structures in the DNP process. The nuclear spin relaxation time T1 in this QHF was relatively short (~ 120 s), and almost tem…
We numerically investigate the second-order nonlinear Hall transport properties of a four-terminal system with time-reversal symmetry and broken inversion symmetry. Within the nonequilibrium Green's function formalism, the second-order nonlinear conductances are derived, where the internal Coulomb potential in response to external voltages is explicitly included to guarantee the gauge invariance. For the system with single mirror symmetry Mx, nonlinear Hall properties are only observable in the y direction and contributed solely from the second-order nonlinear effect. From the symmetry point o…
A scenario of quantum computing process based on the manipulation of a large number of nuclear spins in Quantum Hall (QH) ferromagnet is presented. It is found that vacuum quantum fluctuations in the QH ferromagnetic ground state at filling factor $ν=1$, associated with the virtual excitations of spin waves, lead to fast incomplete decoherence of the nuclear spins. A fundamental upper bound on the length of the computer memory is set by this fluctuation effect.
We investigate interactions between electrons and nuclear spins by using the resistance (Rxx) peak which develops near filling factor n = 2/3 as a probe. By temporarily tuning n to a different value, ntemp, with a gate, the Rxx peak is shown to relax quickly on both sides of ntemp = 1. This is due to enhanced nuclear spin relaxation by Skyrmions, and demonstrates the dominant role of nuclear spin in the transport anomaly near n = 2/3. We also observe an additional enhancement in the nuclear spin relaxation around n = 1/2 and 3/2, which suggests a Fermi sea of partially-polarized composite ferm…
We investigate nuclear spin effects in a two-dimensional electron gas in the quantum Hall regime modeled by a weakly coupled array of interacting quantum wires. We show that the presence of hyperfine interaction between electron and nuclear spins in such wires can induce a phase transition, ordering electrons and nuclear spins into a helix in each wire. Electron-electron interaction effects, pronounced within the one-dimensional stripes, boost the transition temperature up to tens to hundreds of millikelvins in GaAs. We predict specific experimental signatures of the existence of nuclear spin …
The role of the relaxation due to the impurity scattering and/or the contacts to leads/electrodes are studied for the spin Hall effect (SHE). Relaxation is essential to attain the steady state and also to the spin accumulation, but has been considered to be harmful for the intrinsic SHE (ISHE). These issues are examined quantitatively on two types of 2D models, i.e., (a) Rashba model for $n$-type GaAs, and (b) Luttinger model for $p$-type GaAs. It is found that ISHE is robust against the realistic strength of the disorder producing the observable amount of the spin accumulation. Especially in …
W. Apel and Yu.A. Bychkov have recently considered the spin relaxation in a 2D quantum Hall system for the filling factor close to unity [PRL v.82, 3324 (1999)]. The authors considered only one spin flip mechanism (direct spin-phonon coupling) among several possible spin-orbit related ones and came to the conclusion that the spin relaxation time due to this mechanism is quite short: around $10^{-10}$ s at B=10 T (for GaAs). This time is much shorter than the typical time ($10^{-5}$ s) obtained earlier by D. Frenkel while considering the spin relaxation of 2D electrons in a quantizing magnetic …
We study spin wave relaxation in quantum Hall ferromagnet regimes. Spin-orbit coupling is considered as a factor determining spin nonconservation, and external random potential as a cause of energy dissipation making spin-flip processes irreversible. We compare this relaxation mechanism with other relaxation channels existing in a quantum Hall ferromagnet.
We examine effects of inversion asymmetry of a GaAs/Al0.3Ga0.7As quantum well (QW) on electron-nuclear spin coupling in the fractional quantum Hall (QH) regime. Increasing the QW potential asymmetry at a fixed Landau-level filling factor (nu) with gate voltages suppresses the current-induced nuclear spin polarization in the nu = 2/3 Ising QH ferromagnet, while it significantly enhances the nuclear spin relaxation at general nu. These findings suggest that mixing of different spin states due to the Rashba spin-orbit interaction strongly affects the electron-nuclear spin coupling.
We show electrical coherent manipulation of quadrupole-split nuclear spin states in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure on the basis of the breakdown of quantum Hall effect. The electric quadrupole splitting in nuclear spin energy levels is intentionally enhanced by applying an external stress to the heterostructure. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra with clearly separated triple peaks are obtained, and Rabi oscillations are observed between the nuclear spin energy levels. The decay of the spin-echo signal is compared between the cases before and after the enhancement of quadrupole splitting.
A coherent superposition of many nuclear spin states can be prepared and manipulated via the hyperfine interaction with the electronic spins by varying the Landau level filling factor through the gate voltage in appropriately designed Quantum Hall Ferromagnet. During the manipulation periods the 2D electron system forms spatially large Skyrmionic spin textures, where many nuclear spins follow locally the electron spin polarization. It is shown that the collective spin rotation of a single spin texture is gapless in the limit of zero Zeeman splitting, and may dominate the nuclear spins relaxati…
Studies of energy flow in quantum systems complement the information provided by common conductance measurements. The quantum limit of heat flow in one dimensional (1D) ballistic modes was predicted, and experimentally demonstrated, to have a universal value for bosons, fermions, and fractionally charged anyons. A fraction of this value is expected in non-abelian states. Nevertheless, open questions about energy relaxation along the propagation length in 1D modes remain. Here, we introduce a novel experimental setup that measures the energy relaxation in chiral 1D modes of the quantum Hall eff…
We present an enhanced diffusion of nuclear spin polarization in fractional quantum Hall domain phases at $ν= 2/3$. Resistively-detected NMR mediated by electrically driven domain-wall motion is used as a probe of local nuclear polarization, manifesting pumping-dependent signal saturation behavior. This reveals that a relatively homogeneous polarization profile spreads even to places distant from pinning centers of the domain walls. We attribute this to the fact that the pumped nuclear polarization near the domain walls rapidly diffuses into the domains where nuclei experience Knight fields on…
We investigate the resistance enhancement state (RES) where the magnetoresistance of the $ν= 2/3$ fractional quantum Hall state (FQHS) is increased with dynamic nuclear spin polarization (DNP) induced by a large electric current. After inducing DNP, we measure the temperature dependence of the magnetoresistance by a small current over a short period of time. We find that the FQHS makes a phase transition to an insulating state. By measuring the Hall resistance in the insulating state, we find that the RES exhibits a quantized Hall resistance. We discuss the RES in association with the Anderson…
The one-dimensional, chiral edge channels of the quantum Hall effect are a promising platform in which to implement electron quantum optics experiments; however, Coulomb interactions between edge channels are a major source of decoherence and energy relaxation. It is therefore of large interest to understand the range and limitations of the simple quantum electron optics picture. Here we confirm experimentally for the first time the predicted relaxation and revival of electrons injected at finite energy into an edge channel. The observed decay of the injected electrons is reproduced theoretica…
Electrical polarization of nuclear spins is studied in a Corbino disk under a breakdown regime of the quantum Hall effect (QHE). Since the edge channels are completely absent in the Corbino disk, we conclude that the electric current flowing in the bulk channel of a quantum Hall conductor is relevant to dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). A pump and probe measurement demonstrates that DNP emerges near the critical voltage of the QHE breakdown. The agreement of the onset voltage of DNP with that of the QHE breakdown indicates that the underlying origin of DNP is closely related to that of the Q…
We study the nuclear spin relaxation in a ballistic nanowire with hyperfine and Rashba spin-orbit interactions (SOI) and in the presence of magnetic field and electron interactions. The relaxation rate shows pronounced peaks as function of magnetic field and chemical potential due to van Hove singularities in the Rashba bands. As a result, the regimes of weak and strong SOIs can be distinguished by the number of peaks in the rate. The relaxation rate increases with increasing magnetic field if both Rashba subbands are occupied, whereas it decreases if only the lowest one is occupied.
We study dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) induced by breakdown of the fractional quantum Hall (FQH) effect. We find that voltage-current characteristics depend on current sweep rates at the quantum Hall states of Landau level filling factors $ν$ = 1, 2/3, and 1/3. The sweep rate dependence is attributed to DNP occurring in the breakdown regime of FQH states. Results of a pump and probe experiment show that the polarities of the DNP induced in the breakdown regimes of the FQH states is opposite to that of the DNP induced in the breakdown regimes of odd-integer quantum Hall states.
In order to describe correctly the interplay of extrinsic and intrinsic spin-orbit mechanisms to the spin Hall effect, it is necessary to consider different sources of spin relaxation. We take into account the spin relaxation time $τ_{DP}$ due to the Dyakonov-Perel mechanism as well as the Elliot-Yafet spin-relaxation time $τ_s$ due to the spin-orbit scattering from impurities. The total spin Hall conductivity depends crucially on the ratio $τ_s /τ_{DP}$.
In contrast to the case of ordinary quantum Hall effect, the resistance of ballistic helical edge channels in typical quantum spin-Hall experiments is non-vanishing, additive and poorly quantized. Here we present a simple argument connecting this qualitative difference with a spin relaxation in the current/voltage leads in an experimentally relevant multi-terminal bar geometry. Both the finite lead resistance and the spin relaxation contribute to a non-vanishing four-terminal edge resistance, explaining poor quantization quality. We show that corrections to the four-terminal and two-terminal r…
We investigate dynamic nuclear polarization in quantum point contacts (QPCs) in the integer and fractional quantum Hall regimes. Following the application of a dc bias, fractional plateaus in the QPC shift symmetrically about half filling of the lowest Landau level, ν=1/2, suggesting an interpretation in terms of composite fermions. Polarizing and detecting at different filling factors indicates that Zeeman energy is reduced by the induced nuclear polarization. Mapping effects from integer to fractional regimes extends the composite fermion picture to include hyperfine coupling.
We investigate the energy exchanges along an electronic quantum channel realized in the integer quantum Hall regime at filling factor $ν_L=2$. One of the two edge channels is driven out-of-equilibrium and the resulting electronic energy distribution is measured in the outer channel, after several propagation lengths $0.8~μ$m$\leq L\leq30~μ$m. Whereas there are no discernable energy transfers toward thermalized states, we find efficient energy redistribution between the two channels without particle exchanges. At long distances $L\geq10~μ$m, the measured energy distribution is a hot Fermi funct…
The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time T1 of the nu = 2 quantum Hall ferromagnet (QHF) formed in a gate-controlled InSb two-dimensional electron gas has been characterized using a pump-probe technique. In contrast to a long T1 of quantum Hall states around nu = 1 that possesses a Korringa-type temperature dependence, the temperature-independent short T1 of the nu = 2 QHF suggests the presence of low energy collective spin excitations in a domain wall. Furthermore, T1 of this ferromagnetic state is also found to be filling- and current-independent. The interpretation of these results as compa…
The ferromagnet-topological insulator-ferromagnet (FM-TI-FM) junction exhibits thermal and electrical quantum Hall effects. The generated Hall voltage and transverse temperature gradient can be controlled by the directions of magnetizations in the FM leads, which inspires the use of FM-TI-FM junctions as electrical and as heat switches in spintronic devices. Thermal and electrical Hall coefficients are calculated as functions of the magnetization directions in ferromagnets and the spin-relaxation time in TI. Both the Hall voltage and the transverse temperature gradient decrease but are not com…

We find that the nuclear-spin polarization has not been treated correctly. The references given are those of wrong papers. The credits assigned for discoveries are also not correct. Incorrect theories have been cited. The reference to the correct theory has been neglected. Because there are lots of good people, so they do not want to give reference to my papers even though they have not solved the problem of quantum Hall effect and we have.
Resistively detected NMR (RDNMR) based on dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) in a quantum Hall ferromagnet (QHF) is a highly-sensitive method for the discovery of fascinating quantum Hall phases; however, the mechanism of this DNP and in particular the role of quantum Hall edge states in it are unclear. Here we demonstrate the important but previously unrecognized effect of chiral edge modes on the nuclear spin polarization. A side-by-side comparison of the RDNMR signals from Hall bar and Corbino disk configurations allows us to distinguish the contributions of bulk and edge states to DNP in Q…
The strong influence of nuclear spins on resonant quantum tunneling in the molecular cluster Fe_8 is demonstrated for the first time by comparing the relaxation rate of the standard Fe_8 sample with two isotopic modified samples: (i) 56_Fe is replaced by 57_Fe, and (ii) a fraction of 1_H is replaced by 2_H. By using a recently developed "hole digging" method, we measured an intrinsic broadening which is driven by the hyperfine fields. Our measurements are in good agreement with numerical hyperfine calculations. For T > 1.5 K, the influence of nuclear spins on the relaxation rate is less import…
We observe nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in the fractional quantum Hall regime at Landau level filling factor $ν=2/3$ from simultaneous measurement of longitudinal resistance and photoluminescence (PL). The dynamic nuclear spin polarization is induced by applying a huge electronic current at the spin phase transition point of $ν=2/3$. The NMR spectra obtained from changes in resistance and PL intensity are qualitatively the same; that is, the Knight shift (spin polarized region) and zero-shift (spin unpolarized region) resonances are observed in both. The observed change in PL intensity is …
We study nuclear spin polarization in the quantum Hall regime through the optically pumped electron spin polarization in the lowest Landau level. The nuclear spin polarization is measured as a nuclear magnetic field $B_N$ by means of the sensitive resistive detection. We find the dependence of $B_N$ on filling factor unmonotonous. The comprehensive measurements of $B_N$ with the help of the circularly polarized photoluminescence measurements indicate the participation of the photo-excited complexes i.e., the exciton and trion (charged exciton), in nuclear spin polarization. On the basis of a n…
The electron spin transport in condensed matter, Spintronics, is a subject of rapidly growing interest both scientifically and from the point of view of applications to modern and future electronics. In many cases the electron spin transport cannot be described adequately without accounting for the hyperfine interaction between electron and nuclear spins. Under extreme conditions of high magnetic fileds, ultra-low temperatures, ultra high isotopical cleanness etc., the nuclear spins in these sytems are very promizing candidates for the qubits: the basic elements of emerging quantum memory, log…
We study pumping of charge in a 2DEG in the quantum Hall regime at filling factor $ν= 2$ (2 spin-split levels of the lowest Landau level). For pumping frequencies that match the Zeeman energy splitting, quantum pumping together with hyperfine interaction between electrons and nuclei induces transitions between the spin-split levels. These lead to a step-like change in the pumped current and to polarization of the nuclei. We present quantitative predictions for both. Our model provides the first quantitative tool to both control and measure the amount of local nuclear polarization in a 2DEG.
We report on the numerical study of the relaxation rates of nuclear spins coupled through the hyperfine interaction to a two dimensional electron gas (2DEG) at magnetic fields corresponding to both fractional and integral Landau level (LL) fillings nu. The Hamiltonians of up to 20 interacting electrons are diagonalized exactly in the spherical geometry, neglecting finite layer width, disorder, and LL mixing. The spectral functions tau^-1(E) describing response of the 2DEG to the reversal of an embedded localized spin are calculated. In a (locally) incompressible nu=1 or 1/3 state, the finite C…
The nuclear spin relaxation rate (1/$T_1$) is measured for GaAs two-dimensional electron systems in the quantum Hall regime with an all-electrical technique for agitating and probing the nuclear spins. A "tilted plateau" feature is observed near the Landau level filling factor $ν=1$ in 1/$T_1$ versus $ν$. Both width and magnitude of the plateau increase with decreasing electron density. At low temperatures, 1/$T_1$ exhibits an Arrhenius temperature dependence within the tilted plateau regime. The extracted energy gaps are up to two orders of magnitude smaller than the corresponding charge tran…
We report on measurements of the spin lifetime of nuclear spins strongly coupled to a micromechanical cantilever as used in magnetic resonance force microscopy. We find that the rotating-frame correlation time of the statistical nuclear polarization is set by the magneto-mechanical noise originating from the thermal motion of the cantilever. Evidence is based on the effect of three parameters: (1) the magnetic field gradient (the coupling strength), (2) the Rabi frequency of the spins (the transition energy), and (3) the temperature of the low-frequency mechanical modes. Experimental results a…
It is demonstrated that the now well-established `flip-flop' mechanism of spin exchange between electrons and nuclei in the quantum Hall effect can be reversed. We use a sample geometry which utilizes separately contacted edge states to establish a local nuclear spin polarization --close to the maximum value achievable-- by driving a current between electron states of different spin orientation. When the externally applied current is switched off, the sample exhibits an output voltage of up to a few tenths of a meV, which decays with a time constant typical for the nuclear spin relaxation. The…
Auger relaxation in 2D strongly correlated electron gas can be represented as an Auger-like process for neutral magnetoplasmon excitations. The case of "dielectric" state with lack of free electrons (i.e. at integer filling $ν$) is considered. Really the Auger-like process is a coalescence of two magnetoplasmons which are converted into a single one of a different plasmon mode with zero 2D wave-vector. This event turns out to be energetically allowed for magnetoplasmons near their roton minima where the spectrum has the infinite density of states. As a result the additional possibility appears…
The spin degree of freedom in solids offers opportunities beyond charge-based electronics and is actively investigated for both spintronics and quantum computation. However, the interplay of these spins with their native environment can give rise to detrimental effects such as spin relaxation and decoherence. Here, we use an all-electrical, lateral GaAs spin valve to manipulate and investigate the inherent nuclear spin system. Hanle satellites are used to determine the nuclear spin relaxation rates for the previously unexplored temperature range down to 100 mK, giving T1 times as long as 3 hou…
We show that the spin-lattice relaxation in n-type insulating GaAs is dramatically accelerated at low magnetic fields. The origin of this effect, that cannot be explained in terms of well-known diffusion-limited hyperfine relaxation, is found in the quadrupole relaxation, induced by fluctuating donor charges. Therefore, quadrupole relaxation, that governs low field nuclear spin relaxation in semiconductor quantum dots, but was so far supposed to be harmless to bulk nuclei spins in the absence of optical pumping can be studied and harnessed in much simpler model environment of n-GaAs bulk cryst…
We theoretically investigate the evolution of the peak height of an energy resolved electronic wave-packets ballistically propagating along integer quantum Hall edge channels at filling factor $ν=2$. This is ultimately related to the elastic scattering amplitude for the fermionic excitations evaluated at different injection energy. We investigate this quantity assuming a short range capacitive coupling between the edges. Moreover, we also take into account phenomenologically the possibility of energy dissipation towards additional degrees of freedom both linear and quadratic in the injection e…
Spin relaxation in quantum Hall ferromagnet regimes is studied. As the initial non-equilibrium state, a coherent deviation of the spin system from the ${\vec B}$ direction is considered and the breakdown of this Goldstone-mode state due to hyperfine coupling to nuclei is analyzed. The relaxation occurring non-exponentially with time is studied in terms of annihilation processes in the "Goldstone condensate" formed by "zero spin excitons". The relaxation rate is calculated analytically even if the initial deviation is not small. This relaxation channel competes with the relaxation mechanisms du…
We investigate the role of the nuclear spin quantum dynamics in hyperfine-induced spin relaxation of hopping carriers in organic semiconductors. The fast hopping regime with a small carrier spin precession during a waiting time between hops is typical for organic semiconductors possessing long spin coherence times. We consider this regime and focus on a carrier random walk diffusion in one dimension, where the effect of the nuclear spin dynamics is expected to be the strongest. Exact numerical simulations of spin systems with up to 25 nuclear spins are performed using the Suzuki-Trotter decomp…
