We study the deformation theory of $\mathrm{G}_2$-instantons on nearly $\mathrm{G}_2$ manifolds. There is a one-to-one correspondence between nearly parallel $\mathrm{G}_2$ structures and real Killing spinors, thus the deformation theory can be formulated in terms of spinors and Dirac operators. We prove that the space of infinitesimal deformations of an instanton is isomorphic to the kernel of an elliptic operator. Using this formulation we prove that abelian instantons are rigid. Then we apply our results to describe the deformation space of the canonical connection on the four normal homogeneous nearly $\mathrm{G}_2$ manifolds.
We formulate the deformation theory for instantons on nearly Kähler six-manifolds using spinors and Dirac operators. Using this framework we identify the space of deformations of an irreducible instanton with semisimple structure group with the kernel of an elliptic operator, and prove that abelian instantons are rigid. As an application, we show that the canonical connection on three of the four homogeneous nearly Kähler six-manifolds G/H is a rigid instanton with structure group H. In contrast, these connections admit large spaces of deformations when regarded as instantons on the tangent bu…
We study solutions to the Kapustin--Witten equations on ALE and ALF gravitational instantons. On any such space and for any compact structure group, we prove asymptotic estimates for the Higgs field. We then use it to prove a vanishing theorem in the case when the underlying manifold is $\mathrm{R}^4$ or $\mathrm{R}^3 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ and the structure group is $\mathrm{SU} (2)$.
We consider an instanton,$\textbf{A}$,with $L^{2}$-curvature $F_{\textbf{A}}$ on the cylindrical manifold $Z=\mathbf{R}\times M$,where $M$ is a closed Riemannian $n$-manifold, $n\geq 4$.We assume $M$ admits a $3$-form $P$ and a $4$-form $Q$ satisfy $dP=4Q$ and $d\ast{Q}=(n-3)\ast P$.Manifolds with these forms include nearly Kähler 6-manifolds and nearly parallel $G_{2}$-manifolds in dimension 7.Then we can prove that the instanton must be a flat connection.
Let $(M,Ω)$ be a closed $8$-dimensional manifold equipped with a generically non-integrable $\mathrm{Spin}(7)$-structure $Ω$. We prove that if $\mathrm{Hom}(H^{3}(M,\mathbb{Z}), \mathbb{Z}_{2}) = 0$ then the moduli space of irreducible $\mathrm{Spin}(7)$-instantons on $(M,Ω)$ with gauge group $\mathrm{SU}(r)$, $r\geq 2$, is orientable.
We consider Lie(G)-valued G-invariant connections on bundles over spaces G/H, RxG/H and R^2xG/H, where G/H is a compact nearly Kaehler six-dimensional homogeneous space, and the manifolds RxG/H and R^2xG/H carry G_2- and Spin(7)-structures, respectively. By making a G-invariant ansatz, Yang-Mills theory with torsion on RxG/H is reduced to Newtonian mechanics of a particle moving in a plane with a quartic potential. For particular values of the torsion, we find explicit particle trajectories, which obey first-order gradient or hamiltonian flow equations. In two cases, these solutions correspond…
We study the following question: Let $(X,g)$ be a compact Gauduchon surface, $(E,h)$ be a differentiable rank $r$ vector bundle on $X$, ${\mathcal{D}}$ be a fixed holomorphic structure on $D:=\det(E)$ and $a$ be the Chern connection of the pair $(\mathcal{D},\det(h))$. Does the complex space structure on ${\mathcal{M}}_a^{\mathrm{ASD}}(E)^*$ induced by the Kobayashi-Hitchin correspondence extend to a complex space structure on the Donaldson-Uhlenbeck compactification $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_a^\mathrm{ASD}(E)$? Our results answer this question in detail for the moduli spaces of $\mathrm{SU}(2)$…
Manifolds admitting Killing spinors are Einstein manifolds. Thus, a deformation of a Killing spinor entails a deformation of Einstein metrics. In this paper, we study infinitesimal deformations of Killing spinors on nearly parallel $\mathrm{G}_2$-manifolds. Since there is a one-to-one correspondence between nearly parallel $\mathrm{G}_2$-structures and Killing spinors on 7-dimensional spin manifolds, our results imply that infinitesimal deformations of nearly parallel $\mathrm{G}_2$-structures are examined in terms of Killing spinors. Applying the same technique, we identify that the space of …
The first irreducible solution of the $\mathrm{SU} (2)$ self-duality equations on the Euclidean Schwarzschild (ES) manifold was found by Charap and Duff in 1977, only 2 years later than the famous BPST instantons on $\mathbb{R}^4$ were discovered. While soon after, in 1978, the ADHM construction gave a complete description of the moduli spaces of instantons on $\mathbb{R}^4$, the case of the Euclidean Schwarzschild manifold has resisted many efforts for the past 40 years. By exploring a correspondence between the planar Abelian vortices and spherically symmetric instantons on ES, we obtain: a …
We study quiver gauge theories on the round and squashed seven-spheres, and orbifolds thereof. They arise by imposing $G$-equivariance on the homogeneous space $G/H=\mathrm{SU}(4)/\mathrm{SU}(3)$ endowed with its Sasaki-Einstein structure, and $G/H=\mathrm{Sp}(2)/\mathrm{Sp}(1)$ as a 3-Sasakian manifold. In both cases we describe the equivariance conditions and the resulting quivers. We further study the moduli spaces of instantons on the metric cones over these spaces by using the known description for Hermitian Yang-Mills instantons on Calabi-Yau cones. It is shown that the moduli space of i…
We investigate instantons on manifolds with Killing spinors and their cones. Examples of manifolds with Killing spinors include nearly Kaehler 6-manifolds, nearly parallel G_2-manifolds in dimension 7, Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, and 3-Sasakian manifolds. We construct a connection on the tangent bundle over these manifolds which solves the instanton equation, and also show that the instanton equation implies the Yang-Mills equation, despite the presence of torsion. We then construct instantons on the cones over these manifolds, and lift them to solutions of heterotic supergravity. Amongst our s…
We study hypersurfaces in a nearly $\mathrm{G}_2$ manifold. We define various quantities associated to such a hypersurface using the $\mathrm{G}_2$ structure of the ambient manifold and prove several relationships between them. In particular, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a hypersurface with an almost complex structure induced from the $\mathrm{G}_2$ structure of the ambient manifold, to be nearly K$\ddot{\text{a}}$hler. Then using the nearly $\mathrm{G}_2$ structure on the round sphere $S^7$, we prove that for a compact minimal hypersurface $M^6$ of constant scalar curvatur…
For gauge groups $U(1)$ and $SO(3)$ we classify invariant $G_2$-instantons for homogeneous coclosed $G_2$-structures on Aloff-Wallach spaces $X_{k,l}$. As a consequence, we give examples where $G_2$-instantons can be used to distinguish between different strictly nearly parallel $G_2$-structures on the same Aloff-Wallach space. In addition to this, we find that while certain $G_2$-instantons exist for the strictly nearly parallel $G_2$-structure on $X_{1,1}$, no such $G_2$-instantons exist for the tri-Sasakian one. As a further consequence of the classification, we produce examples of some oth…
We develop the deformation theory of instantons on asymptotically conical $G_2$-manifolds, where an asymptotic connection at infinity is fixed. A spinorial approach is adopted to relate the space of deformations to the kernel of a twisted Dirac operator on the $G_2$-manifold and to the eigenvalues of a twisted Dirac operator on the nearly Kähler link. This framework is then used to calculate the virtual dimension of the moduli spaces of $G_2$-instantons on which several known examples live. One such example considered is the $G_2$-instanton of Günaydin-Nicolai, which lives on $R^7$. As an appl…
Let $\mathcal{M}^{\mathrm{st}}$ ($\mathcal{M}^{\mathrm{pst}}$) be a moduli space of stable (polystable) bundles with fixed determinant on a complex surface with $b_1=1$, $p_g=0$, and let $Z\subset \mathcal{M}^{\mathrm{st}}$ be a pure $k$-dimensional analytic set. We prove a general formula for the homological boundary $δ[Z]^{BM}\in H_{2k-1}^{BM}(\partial\hat{\mathcal M}^{\mathrm{pst}},\mathbb{Z})$ of the Borel-Moore fundamental class of $Z$ in the boundary of the blow up moduli space $\hat {\mathcal M}^{\mathrm{pst}}$. The proof is based on the holomorphic model theorem (proved in a previous a…
We present a general procedure to construct 6-dimensional manifolds with SU(3)-structure from SU(2)-structure 5-manifolds. We thereby obtain half-flat cylinders and sine-cones over 5-manifolds with Sasaki-Einstein SU(2)-structure. They are nearly Kahler in the special case of sine-cones over Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifolds. Both half-flat and nearly Kahler 6-manifolds are prominent in flux compactifications of string theory. Subsequently, we investigate instanton equations for connections on vector bundles over these half-flat manifolds. A suitable ansatz for gauge fields on these 6-manifolds redu…
We describe the infinitesimal moduli space of pairs $(Y, V)$ where $Y$ is a manifold with $G_2$ holonomy, and $V$ is a vector bundle on $Y$ with an instanton connection. These structures arise in connection to the moduli space of heterotic string compactifications on compact and non-compact seven dimensional spaces, e.g. domain walls. Employing the canonical $G_2$ cohomology developed by Reyes-Carrión and Fernández and Ugarte, we show that the moduli space decomposes into the sum of the bundle moduli $H^1_{\check{d}_A}(Y,\mathrm{End}(V))$ plus the moduli of the $G_2$ structure preserving the i…
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a moduli space of polystable rank 2-bundles bundles with fixed determinant (a moduli space of $\mathrm{PU}(2)$-instantons) on a Gauduchon surface with $p_g=0$ and $b_1=1$. We study the holomorphic structure of $\mathcal{M}$ around a circle $\mathcal{T}$ of regular reductions. Our model space is a "blowup flip passage", which is a manifold with boundary whose boundary is a projective fibration, and whose interior comes with a natural complex structure. We prove that a neighborhood of the boundary of the blowup $\hat{\mathcal{M}}_{\mathcal{T}}$ of $\mathcal{M}$ at $\mathcal{…
We give a construction of $G_2$ and $Spin(7)$ instantons on exceptional holonomy manifolds constructed by Bryant and Salamon, by using an ansatz of spherical symmetry coming from the manifolds being the total spaces of rank-4 vector bundles. In the $G_2$ case, we show that, in the asymptotically conical model, the connections are asymptotic to Hermitian Yang-Mills connections on the nearly Kähler $S^3\times S^3$.
This article explores special Lagrangian submanifolds in $\mathbb{CP}^3$, viewed as a nearly Kähler manifold, from two different perspectives. Intrinsically, using a moving frame set-up, and extrinsically, using $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ moment-type maps. We describe new homogeneous examples, from both perspectives, and classify totally geodesic special Lagrangian submanifolds. We show that every special Lagrangian in $\mathbb{CP}^3$, or the flag manifold $\mathbb{F}_{1,2}(\mathbb{C}^3)$ admitting a symmetry of an $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ subgroup of nearly Kähler automorphisms is automatically homogeneous.

We consider G-equivariant dimensional reduction of Yang-Mills theory with torsion on manifolds of the form MxG/H where M is a smooth manifold, and G/H is a compact six-dimensional homogeneous space provided with a never integrable almost complex structure and a family of SU(3)-structures which includes a nearly Kahler structure. We establish an equivalence between G-equivariant pseudo-holomorphic vector bundles on MxG/H and new quiver bundles on M associated to the double of a quiver Q, determined by the SU(3)-structure, with relations ensuring the absence of oriented cycles in Q. When M=R^2, …
We study multi-moment maps induced by a two-torus action on the four homogeneous nearly Kähler six-manifolds. Their explicit expression and stationary orbits are derived. The configuration of fixed-points and one-dimensional orbits is worked out for generic six-manifolds equipped with an $\mathrm{SU}(3)$-structure admitting a two-torus symmetry. Projecting the subspaces obtained to the orbit space yields a trivalent graph. We illustrate this result concretely on the homogeneous nearly Kähler examples.
We classify all left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian Einstein metrics on $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})\times \mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ that are bi-invariant under a one-parameter subgroup. We find that there are precisely two such metrics up to homothety, the Killing form and a nearly pseudo-Kähler metric.
