Inspired by the potential prospects of high-luminosity dedicated colliders and the high enthusiasms in searching for new physics in the flavor sector at the intensity frontier, the $Υ(1S)$ ${\to}$ $D^{-}π^{+}$, $\overline{D}^{0}π^{0}$ and $D_{s}^{-}K^{+}$ weak decays are studied with the perturbative QCD approach. It is found within the standard model that the branching ratios for the concerned processes are tiny, about ${\cal O}(10^{-18})$, and far beyond the detective ability of current experiments unless there exists some significant enhancements from a noval interaction.
We investigate the prospects for detecting axion-like particles (ALPs, dubbed as "a") via the decay $Z\rightarrow a f\bar{f}$ at future $Z$ factories. Considering the decay channels $a\rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ and $a\rightarrow b \bar{b}$ , four types of signals $μ^+ μ^- /E$, $b b /E$, $e^+ e^- μ^+ μ^-$ and $e^+ e^- b b$ are explored. We demonstrate that these channels are promising for detecting ALPs at $Z$ factories and obtain the sensitivity bounds on the couplings $g_{aZZ}$ and $g_{aγZ}$.
The possibility to detect the massive charged Higgs boson H using the hadronic decay channel H -> tb in the associated production pp -> tH + X in the CMS experiment at LHC is studied. There is a large background from ttbb events which makes the observation difficult. Detection of a Higgs signal in this channel requires an excellent b-tagging performance. Good calorimeter mass resolution is also necessary for the full event reconstruction.
We study the possible signals at LHC of the minimal models of decaying dark matter. Those models are characterized by the fact that DM interacts with SM particles through renormalizable coupling with an additional heavier charged state. Such interaction allows to produce a substantial abundance of DM in the early Universe via the decay of the charged heavy state, either in- or out-of-equilibrium. Moreover additional couplings of the charged particle open up decay channels for the DM, which can nevertheless be sufficiently long-lived to be a good DM candidate and within reach of future Indirect…
In addition to well-motivated scenarios like supersymmetric particles, the so-called exotic matter (quirky matter, hidden valley models, etc.) can show up at the LHC and ILC, by exploring the spectroscopy of high mass levels and decay rates. In this paper we use QCD-inspired potential models, though without resorting to any particular one, to calculate level spacings of bound states and decay rates of the aforementioned exotic matter in order to design discovery strategies. We mainly focus on quirky matter, but our conclusions can be extended to other similar scenarios.
A non-standard CP-odd Higgs boson could induce a slight (but observable) lepton universality breaking in Upsilon leptonic decays. Moreover, mixing between such a pseudoscalar Higgs boson and $η_b$ states might shift their mass levels, thereby modifying the values of the $M_{Υ(nS)}-M_{η_b(nS)}$ hyperfine spplitings predicted in the standard model. Besides, $η_b$ resonances could be broader than expected with potentially negative consequences for discovery in both $e^+e^-$ and hadron colliders. A scenario with a CP violating Higgs sector is also considered. Finally, further strategies to search …
In this decade, there are huge efforts to explore B-meson decays, which offer interesting probes to test the quark-flavour structure of the Standard Model and to search for signals of new physics. Exciting new perspectives for these studies will soon arise at the LHC, where decays of $B^0_s$ mesons will be a key target of the B-physics programme. We will discuss theoretical aspects of various benchmark channels and address the question of how much space for new-physics effects in their observables is left by the recent experimental results from the B factories and the Tevatron.
We discuss the possibility of extracting ${\mid}V_{cb}{\mid}$ from the future measurement at LHC of the $B_c\ {\rightarrow}\ J/ψ μ^+\ ν$ decay rate followed by the leptonic decay $J/ψ {\rightarrow}\ μ^+μ^-$. We examine in detail the influence of the measurement of the muons' momenta and vertex reconstruction in the final uncertainty of ${\mid}V_{cb}{\mid}$, as well as the required theoretical inputs at both the production and weak decay level, and their reliability in this regard. We stress the relevance of a rigorous description of the fragmentation contributions to inclusive production at la…
We analyze constraints on the parameters of the R-parity violating supersymmetry which can be extracted from non-observation of the neutrinoless nuclear double beta decay ($0νββ$) at a given half-life lower bound. Our analysis covers a large class of phenomenologically viable R-parity violating SUSY models. We introduce special characteristics: the SUSY sensitivity of a $ββ$ decaying isotope and the SUSY reach of a $0νββ$ experiment. The former provides a physical criterion for a selection of the most promising isotopes for SUSY searches and the latter gives a measure of success for a $0νββ$ e…
The experimental measurements on flavour physics, in tension with Standard Model predictions, exhibit large sources of Lepton Flavour Universality violation. This note summarises an analysis of the effects of the global fits to the Wilson coefficients assuming a model independent effective Hamiltonian approach, by including a proposal of different scenarios to include the New Physics contributions. Additionally, we include an overview of the impact of the future generation of colliders in the field of B-meson anomalies.
We review the motivation for hidden Higgs scenarios and discuss the light CP odd Higgs scenario in the NMSSM as an example. We summarize experimental constraints including recent limits from BaBar and Aleph. The main part of the talk is the discussion of dominant decay modes of the standard model like Higgs boson, and related decay modes of the charged Higgs and heavy CP even Higgs bosons, in these scenarios with the focus on signatures and prospects for the LHC. Examples include the direct production of a light CP odd Higgs boson, and a light charged Higgs boson in top quark decays.
The LHCb bounds on the branching ratio of rare decay $D^0 \to μ^+ μ^-$ and the constraints on the branching ratio of $D^+ \to π^+ μ^+ μ^-$ in the nonresonant regions enable us to improve constraints on new physics contributions. Using the effective Lagrangian approach we determine sizes of the Wilson coefficients allowed by the existing LHCb bounds on rare charm decays. Then we discuss contributions to rare charm meson decay observables in several models of new physics: a model with an additional spin-1 weak triplet, leptoquark models, Two Higgs doublets model of type III, and a $Z'$ model. He…
In these lectures I review what has been learned from studies of b-quark decays, including semileptonic decays ($V_{ub}$ and $V_{cb}$), $B^o-\overline{B}^o$ mixing and rare B decays. Then a discussion on CP violation follows, which leads to a summary of plans for future experiments and what is expected to be learned from them. (Presented at NATO Advanced Study Institute on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics, Virgin Islands, July 1996.)
We study the prospects for probing the CP structure of $hqq$ interactions using the decays of the lightest baryon $Λ_q$ formed in the quark's hadronization. The low yields of reconstructible events make it unlikely for tests to be performed with the next generation of colliders. In $h\to b\bar b\to Λ_b \barΛ_b$ decays a CP-sensitive distribution could be measured with a high-luminosity $e^+ e^-$ collider, while in both $h\to b\bar b\to Λ_b \barΛ_b$ and $h\to c\bar c\to Λ_c \barΛ_c$ decays such a distribution could be measured with a very high luminosity $μ^+ μ^-$ collider. However, we find tha…
We study the production and decay of a light charged Higgs boson at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Type III, assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We analyze the charge current production processes $e^- p \to ν_e q H^+ $ considering the signature $H^+ \to c \bar{b} + c.c.$ of the final state. We take this signature and we compare it to the irreducible background from Standard Model (SM) interactions. We consider scenarios of the model which are consistent with current experimental data from…
We review the prospects of measurements of the CKM matrix elements corresponding to the first two generations of quarks, as well as measurements of leptonic and semileptonic charm meson decays at LHCb. We review the status of searches for Lepton Non-Universality in the charm sector, and provide motivation to continue such searches.
If the scalar tau $\stau$ is the next lightest supersymmetric particle and decays into a gravitino ($\gravitino$) being the lightest supersymmetric particle, it will have generally a very long lifetime. In this paper, we investigate the possibility to study the decay of such a long lived scalar tau at the LHC. If we can add to the present LHC experiments additional detectors which are able to stop the stau particles and measure the produced decay products, the decay characteristics can be studied precisely at the LHC. We identify a maximum "stopper detector" that could be added in the CMS cave…
Within the Standard Model, CP rate asymmetries for $B\to K^-π^{+,0}$ could reach 10%. With strong final state phases, they could go up to 20--30%, even for $\bar K^0π^-$ mode which would have opposite sign. We can account for $K^-π^{+}$, $\bar K^0π^-$ and $ϕK$ rate data with new physics enhanced color dipole coupling and destructive interference. Asymmetries could reach 40--60% for $Kπ$ and $ϕK$ modes and are all of the same sign. We are unable to account for $K^-π^0$ rate. Our inclusive study supports our exclusive results.
We discuss the motivations and perspectives for the studies of the mesons of the (bc) family at LHCb. The description of production and decays at LHC energies is given in details. The event yields, detection efficiencies, and background conditions for several Bc decay modes at LHCb are estimated.
We present the prospects of searches for neutral, long-lived particles which decay to photons using their time of arrival measured with a newly installed timing system on the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMTiming) of the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). A Monte Carlo simulation shows that EMTiming can provide separation between decay photons from particles with both a long lifetime and a low boost, and prompt photons from Standard Model backgrounds. Using a gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) $\tildeχ_{1}^{0}\toγ\tilde{G}$ model we estimate a quasi-model-independent sensitivity us…
LHCb will collect large samples of Bd and Bs decays. Combining the CP-violating observables of the decays Bd-->pi+pi- and Bs-->K+K- it is possible to extract the gamma angle of the unitarity triangle. The selection of these decays within the current LHCb simulation framework is outlined and the expected annual event yields and background-to-signal ratios are quoted. Then, the results of a study on the sensitivity that LHCb can achieve for the corresponding CP-violating observables are presented.
The compelling experimental evidences for oscillations of solar and atmospheric neutrinos imply the existence of 3-neutrino mixing in vacuum. We briefly review the phenomenology of 3-neutrino mixing, and the current data on the 3-neutrino mixing parameters. The open questions and the main goals of future research in the field of neutrino mixing and oscillations are outlined. The predictions for the effective Majorana mass |<m>| in neutrinoless double beta (bb0nu-) decay in the case of 3-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos are reviewed. The physics potential of the experiments, searc…
In this paper, we present the branching ratios of the two lightest CP-even Higgses, $h_1$ and $h_2$, and of the lightest CP-odd Higgs, $a_1$, in the context of the Non-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). We find that for some regions of the parameter space, the branching fractions of $a_1$ into the lightest charginos ($a_1\to χ^+_1χ^-_1)$ and neutralinos ($a_1\to χ^0_1χ^0_1)$ are larger than $50\%$, and can reach a $100 \%$ level in the latter case. Furthermore, the branching ratio of the $h_2\to a_1a_1$ can be equal to unity for all masses of $h_2$ when it is a pure singlet. The ab…
We examine the prospects of detecting sfermions at a gamma gamma collider. Once produced, a slepton can decay into a pair of quarks (jets) through R-parity violating interactions. Similarly, a squark may decay into a lepton-quark pair. Analyzing the corresponding Standard Model backgrounds, namely 4-jet and dilepton plus dijet final states respectively, we show that the sfermion can be detected almost right upto the kinematic limit and its mass determined to a fair degree of accuracy. Similar statements also hold for nonsupersymmetric leptoquarks and diquarks.
Several extensions of the Standard Model predict the existence of Long-Lived Neutral Particles (LLNPs) with masses in the multi-GeV range and decay lengths of O(100 m) or longer. These particles could be copiously produced at the LHC, but the decay products cannot be detected with the ATLAS or CMS detectors. MATHUSLA is a proposed large-volume surface detector installed near ATLAS or CMS aimed to probe scenarios with LLNPs which offers good prospects for disentangling the physics underlying two-body decays into visible particles. In this work we focus on LLNP decays into three particles with o…
An effective Lagrangian for the technidilaton and its interactions with matter is constructed. Properties of the technidilaton are compared with those of the Higgs boson. Technidilaton decays and production channels are investigated. Main technidilaton decays are suppressed compared to the Higgs boson and the most important production mechanism is due to gluon fusion. Prospects for technidilaton production and detection at $e^+e^-$ colliders and the SSC are examined. LEP 1, LEP 2 and SSC can find or rule out a technidilaton with a mass up to $10~GeV$, $40~GeV$ and $230~GeV$ respectively.
The kaon sector is characterised by several processes which are under active investigation across different experiments. In this work, we present the global picture that emerges from a study of the different decay modes. We begin by revisiting the theoretical component of these decays and providing up-to-date predictions of the Standard Model as well as the corresponding uncertainties. Several new features emerge, in particular for $K_{S,L}\to μ\barμ$, and are presented in considerable detail. This offers an ideal platform for extracting the parameter space supported by the existing data. Moti…
The interest, the status and the perspectives of various experiments in neutron and nuclear beta-decay, muon-decay and pion-decays are discussed. The talk is segmented into a discussion of the decay-rates and of the energy-spectra and correlations. The impact on various scenarios of "new physics" is briefly mentioned; left-right symmetric models are discussed in more detail and the informations gained from the considered experiments is compared to those from other sources.
We show prospects on a search for invisible decays of a Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). This search is performed on a Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson. We expect that the branching ratio of 17-22% (6-14%) could be excluded at 95% confidence level with 300 fb^{-1} (3000 fb^{-1}) of data at sqrt(s)=14 TeV. The range indicates different assumptions on the control of systematic uncertainties. Interpretations with Higgs-portal dark matter models are also considered.
In this talk, prospects for the charged Higgs in non-SUSY models are reviewed, in view of LHC results (as of October, 2012). The four models (Type I, Type II, lepton-specific and flipped) without tree level flavor-changing neutral currents are discussed. Updates for the case in which the charged Higgs is lighter than the top, leading to production in top decays, are presented along with expectations for the future. If the charged Higgs is heavier than the top quark, detection may be possible through the tau-nu decay mode. In addition, it is pointed out that the decay of the charged Higgs into …
We perform a study of the impact of the recently released limits on BR(Bs -> mu+ mu-) by LHCb and CMS on several SUSY models. We show that the obtained constraints can be superior to those which are derived from direct searches for SUSY particles in some scenarios, and the use of a double ratio of purely leptonic decays involving Bs -> mu+ mu- can further strengthen such constraints. We also discuss the experimental sensitivity and prospects for observation of Bs -> mu+ mu- during the sqrt(s)=7 TeV run of the LHC, and its potential implications.
At least one state in the first family of D-wave $b \bar b$ quarkonium levels has been discovered near the predicted mass of 10.16 GeV/$c^2$. This state is probably the one with J=2. This state and the ones with J=1 and J=3 may contribute a detectable amount to the decay $Υ(1D) \to Υ(1S) ππ$, depending on the partial widths for these decays for which predictions vary considerably. The prospects for detection of the chain $Υ(3S) \to Υ(1D) + X \to Υππ+ X$ are discussed.
We present the prospects of an angular analysis of the $Λ_b \to Λ(1520)\ell^+\ell^-$ decay. Using the expected yield in the current dataset collected at the LHCb experiment, as well as the foreseen ones after the LHCb upgrades, sensitivity studies are presented to determine the experimental precision on angular observables related to the lepton distribution and their potential to identify New Physics. The forward-backward lepton asymmetry at low dilepton invariant mass is particularly promising. NP scenarios favoured by the current anomalies in $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ decays can be distinguished …
The study of hyperon decays at the Beijing Electron Spectrometer III (BESIII) is proposed to investigate the events of $J/ψ$ decay into hyperon pairs, which provide a pristine experimental environment at the Beijing Electron--Positron Collider II. About $10^{6}$--$10^8$ hyperons, i.e., $Λ$, $Σ$, $Ξ$, and $Ω$, will be produced in the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ decays with the proposed data samples at BESIII. Based on these samples, the measurement sensitivity of the branching fractions of the hyperon decays is in the range of $10^{-5}$--$10^{-8}$. In addition, with the known center-of-mass energy and "t…
We investigate the discovery prospects for NMSSM Higgs bosons during the 13~TeV run of the LHC. While one of the neutral Higgs bosons is demanded to have a mass around 125~GeV and Standard Model (SM)-like properties, there can be substantially lighter, nearby or heavier Higgs bosons, that have not been excluded yet by LEP, Tevatron or the 8~TeV run of the LHC. The challenge consists in discovering the whole NMSSM Higgs mass spectrum. We present the rates for production and subsequent decay of the neutral NMSSM Higgs bosons in the most promising final states and discuss their possible discovery…
We present a comprehensive analysis of observing a light Higgs boson in the mass range $70$ -- $110$ GeV at the 13/14 TeV LHC, in the context of the type-I two-Higgs-doublet model. The decay of the light Higgs to a pair of bottom quarks is dominant in most parts of the parameter space, except in the fermiophobic limit. Here its decay to bosons, (mainly a pair of photons), becomes important. We perform an extensive collider analysis for the $b\bar{b}$ and $γγ$ final states. The light scalar is tagged in the highly boosted regimes for the $b \bar{b}$ mode to reduce the enormous QCD background. T…
We explore the discovery prospects for B'\bar{B}' pair production followed by direct decays B'->bX, where B' is a new quark and X is a long-lived neutral particle. We develop optimized cuts in the (m_B', m_X) plane and show that the 7 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 1 (10) fb^-1 may exclude masses up to m_B' ~ 620 (800) GeV, completely covering the mass range allowed for new quarks that get mass from electroweak symmetry breaking. This analysis is applicable to other models with b\bar{b}+MET signals, including supersymmetric models with bottom squarks decaying directly to neutralinos,…
Theory uncertainties on non-local hadronic effects limit the New Physics discovery potential of the rare decays $B\to K^*μ^+μ^-$. We investigate prospects to disentangle New Physics effects in the short-distance coefficients from these effects. Our approach makes use of an event-by-event amplitude analysis, and relies on the state of the art parametrisation of the non-local contributions. We find that non-standard effects in the short-distance coefficients can be successfully disentangled from non-local hadronic effects. The impact of the truncation on the parametrisation of non-local contribu…
In rather general terms the long term perspective of double beta decay is discussed. All important experimental parameters are investigated as well as the status of nuclear matrix element issues. The link with other neutrino physics results and options to disentangle the underlying physics process are presented.
Axion-like particles (ALPs) can provide a portal to new states of a dark sector. We study the phenomenology of this portal when the ALP mainly decays invisibly, while its interaction with the standard model sector proceeds essentially via its coupling to electrons and/or photons. We re-analyse existing limits from various collider and beam dump experiments, including in particular ALP production via electron/positron interactions, in addition to the usual production through ALP-photon coupling. We further discuss the interplay between these limits and the intriguing possibility of explaining s…
We describe a novel way to measure the mass of heavy, long-lived neutral particles that decay to photons using collider experiments. We focus on a Light Neutralino and Gravitino model in a Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking scenario where the neutralino has a long-lifetime (O(ns)) as it is not excluded by current experiments. To illustrate our method and give sensitivity estimates we use recent CDF results and a production mechanism where sparticles are produced via $ϕ_{i} \rightarrow \widetildeχ^{1}_{0} \widetildeχ^{1}_{0} \rightarrow (γ\widetilde{G})(γ\widetilde{G})$ in which $ϕ_{i}$ indi…
An interesting model of dark matter involves a hidden sector decoupled from Standard Model (SM) fields except for some portal interaction. A concrete realization of this is the Hidden Abelian Higgs Model, which gives rise to decays of the SM Higgs boson into a pair of new bosons, called $Z_{\mathrm{d}}$ or dark photons. This note explores prospects for the search for such dark photons at the ILC with $\sqrt{s}=250$ GeV, where the dark photons decay promptly. For the $H\rightarrow Z_{\mathrm{d}}Z_{\mathrm{d}}\rightarrow 4\ell$ ($\ell = e,μ$) final state, it follows closely recent similar search…
We review the information on the CKM matrix elements, unitarity triangle and CP-violating phases $α, β$ and $γ$ in the standard model which will be measured in the forthcoming experiments at B factories, HERA-B and hadron colliders. We also discuss two-body non-leptonic decays $B \to h_1 h_2$, with $h_i$ being light mesons, which are interesting from the point of view of CP violation and measurements of these phases. Partial rate CP asymmetries are presented in a number of decay modes using factorization for the matrix elements of the operators in the effective weak Hamiltonian. Estimates of t…
In this paper, we explore the collider phenomenology of the charged Higgs boson in the context of a generic Beyond Standard Model scenario with extended gauge and scalar sectors. In such scenarios, the charged Higgs boson can decay via the $W^{'}Z/ WZ^{'}$ channels. We formulate a search strategy for the $H^{\pm}$ in the channel $σ(g b \rightarrow H^{\pm}t)\mathcal{BR}(H^{\pm} \rightarrow W' Z)$ considering the interesting cascade decay chain $H^{\pm} \rightarrow W^{'} Z \rightarrow W^{\pm} Z Z$. We find that the charged Higgs can be discovered in final states with multiple hard leptons and/ o…
A brief review of the strategies used in looking for CP violation in B decays is presented. Some problems due to penguin diagrams are addressed. Penguin trapping is discussed, in the context of the upcoming experiments. The high rates and the possibility to perform experiments on the $B_s$ system justify the interest in hadronic colliders.
The possibility of a vectorlike top partner decaying to a new colourless weak-singlet scalar or pseudoscalar has attracted some attention in the literature. We investigate the production of a weak-singlet charge-$2/3$ $T$ quark that can decay to a spinless boson ($Φ$) and a top quark at the LHC. Earlier, in 2203.13753, we have shown that in a large part of the parameter space, the $T\to tΦ$ and the loop-induced $Φ\to gg$ decays become the dominant decay modes for these particles. Here, we investigate the discovery prospects of the $T$ quark in this region through the above decays. In particula…
The lack of a new physics signal thus far at the Large Hadron Collider motivates us to consider how to look for challenging final states, with large Standard Model backgrounds and subtle kinematic features, such as cascade decays with compressed spectra. Adopting a benchmark SUSY-like decay topology with a four-body final state proceeding through a sequence of two-body decays via intermediate resonances, we focus our attention on the kinematic variable $Δ_{4}$ which previously has been used to parameterize the boundary of the allowed four-body phase space. We highlight the advantages of using …
We show that a top-prime quark as heavy as 600 GeV can be discovered at the Tevatron, provided it is resonantly pair-produced via a vector color octet. If the top-prime originates from a vectorlike quark, then the production of a single top-prime in association with a top may also be observable, even through its decay into a Higgs boson and a top. A color octet with mass of about 1 TeV, which decays into a top-prime pair, may account for the CDF excess of semileptonic (Wj)(Wj) events.
The potential for the discovery of a Standard Model Higgs boson in the mass range m_H < 2 m_Z in the vector boson fusion mode has been studied for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The characteristic signatures of additional jets in the forward regions of the detector and of low jet activity in the central region allow for an efficient background rejection. Analyses for the H -> WW and H -> tau tau decay modes have been performed using a realistic simulation of the expected detector performance. The results obtained demonstrate the large discovery potential in the H -> WW decay channel and the …
We propose a search for direct production and decay of the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson to two neutralinos in gauge mediated models at the Fermilab Tevatron. We focus on the final state where each neutralino decays to photon and light gravitino with a lifetime of order O(ns). In the detector this will show up as a photon with a time-delayed signature and missing E_T. We estimate that using the photon timing system at CDF, and the full 10/fb data sample, that the sensitivity can be within a factor of three in some regions of parameter space for direct production of the Higgs.
The potential for a precise measurement of the Unitarity Triangle angle $γ$ in future experiments from the decay $B^0 \to DK^{*0}$ is well-known. It has recently been suggested that the sensitivity can be significantly enhanced by analysing the $B^0 \to DK^+π^-$ Dalitz plot to extract amplitudes relative to those of the flavour-specific decay $B^0 \to D_2^{*-}K^+$. An extension to this method which includes the case where the neutral $D$ meson is reconstructed in suppressed final states is presented. The sensitivity to $γ$ is estimated using this method and compared to that obtained using the …
Due to a directional asymmetry of neutrino emission caused by parity violation, a sample of radioactive atoms experiences a small recoil force from neutrino radiation accompanying electron capture by polarized nuclei. An expression for this force is obtained for the case of allowed nuclear transitions. Prospects to measure this force by the use of modern micromechanical devices are considered. Numerical estimates for the force are presented for a number of most suitable radioactive isotopes. Potential applications for the weak interaction studies are discussed including the possibility to sear…
The recent experimental results on CP violation related to the angles of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) unitarity triangle 2beta+gamma are summarized in these proceedings. These results are obtained with approximately 232 million Y4S->BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-factory at SLAC. Using the measurements on time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0->D(*)-+pi+- and B0->D-+rho+- decays and theoretical assumptions, one finds |sin(2beta+gamma)|>0.64 (0.40) at 68% (90%) confidence level. The perspectives of sin(2beta+gamma) measurement with B0bar-> D…
The rare kaon decays $K\toπν\barν$ are strongly suppressed in the standard model and widely regarded as processes in which new phenomena, not predicted by the standard model, may be observed. Recognizing such new phenomena requires precise standard model prediction for the braching ratio of $K\toπν\barν$ with controlled uncertainty for both short-distance and long-distance contributions. In this work we demonstrate the feasibility of lattice QCD calculation of the long-distance contribution to rare kaon decays with the emphasis on $K^+\toπ^+ν\barν$. Our methodology covers the calculation of bo…
A model that can simultaneously explain Dark Matter relic density and the apparent matter anti-matter imbalance of the universe has been recently proposed. The model requires $b$-hadron branching fractions to Dark Matter at the per mille level. The $b$-hadrons decay to a dark sector baryon, $ψ_{\rm{DS}}$, which has a mass in the region $940$ MeV/c$^{2} \leq m(ψ_{\rm{DS}}) \leq 4430$ MeV/c$^{2}$. In this paper, we discuss the sensitivity of the LHCb experiment to search for this dark baryon, covering different types of topology and giving prospects for Runs 3 and 4 of the LHC, as well as for th…
In recent years, the CKM picture of flavor and CP violation has been confirmed, mainly due to B decay data. Yet, it is likely that there are small corrections to this picture. We expect to find new physics not much above the weak scale. This new physics could modify flavor changing processes compared to their SM expectations. Much larger B decay data sets, which are expected from LHCb and super-$B$-factories, will be used to search for these deviations with much improved sensitivity. The combination of low and high energy data will be particularly useful to probe the structure of new physics.
This document is prepared for the LCWS2016 conference proceedings. It reviews the current results on the Higgs CP property measurements from both ATLAS and CMS experiments in the Higgs to diboson decays, and in the Vector Boson Fusion production of Higgs via the ditau decay channel. The projected sensitivity of the ditau signal in HL-LHC is briefly discussed. Finally, it gives the prospects for the CP measurement in the Higgs to ditau decay with the tau substructure developments at both collaborations.
Weak decays of the vector $D^{*0}$ and $B_{(s)}^{*0}$ mesons to the $\mumu$ final state provide novel potential to test the Standard Model of particle physics. Such processes have extremely small branching fractions as the vector mesons are able to decay through electromagnetic and (for the $D^{*0}$ meson) strong interactions. Nonetheless, the production of copious quantities of these particles in LHC collisions, and the ability to exploit experimental techniques that can suppress background to low levels, provides good potential to reach interesting sensitivity. The possibility to reconstruct…
Neutrinoless double-beta decay is a forbidden, lepton-number-violating nuclear transition whose observation would have fundamental implications for neutrino physics, theories beyond the Standard Model and cosmology. In this review, we summarize the theoretical progress to understand this process, the expectations and implications under various particle physics models, as well as the nuclear physics challenges that affect the precise predictions of the decay half-life. We will also provide a synopsis of the current and future large-scale experiments that aim at discovering this process in physi…
