Carbon monoxide (CO) is the best tracer of Galactic molecular hydrogen (H2). Its lowest rotational emission lines are in the radio regime and thanks to Galactic rotation emission at different distances is Doppler shifted. For a given gas flow model the observed spectra can thus be deprojected along the line of sight to infer the gas distribution. We use the CO line survey of Dame et al. (2001) to reconstruct the three-dimensional density of H2. We consider the deprojection as a Bayesian variational inference problem. The posterior distribution of the gas densities allows us to estimate both the mean and uncertainty of the reconstructed density. Unlike most of the previous attempts, we take into account the correlations of gas on a variety of scales which allows curing some of the well-known pathologies, like fingers-of-god effects. Both gas flow models that we adopt incorporate a Galactic bar which induces radial motions in the inner few kiloparsecs and thus offers spectral resolution towards the Galactic centre. We compare our gas maps with those of earlier studies and characterise their statistical properties, e.g. the radial profile of the average surface mass density. We have made our three-dimensional gas maps and their uncertainties available to the community at https://dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4405437 .

In this study, we analyze giant Galactic spurs seen in both radio and X-ray all-sky maps to reveal their origins. We discuss two types of giant spurs: one is the brightest diffuse emission near the map's center, which is likely to be related to Fermi bubbles (NPSs/SPSs, north/south polar spurs, respectively), and the other is weaker spurs that coincide positionally with local spiral arms in our Galaxy (LAS, local arm spur). Our analysis finds that the X-ray emissions, not only from the NPS but from the SPS are closer to the Galactic center by ~5 deg compared with the corresponding radio emissi…
The IMAGINE Consortium aims to bring modeling of the magnetic field of the Milky Way to a next level, by using Bayesian inference. IMAGINE includes an open-source modular software pipeline that optimizes parameters in a user-defined Galactic magnetic field model against various selected observational datasets. Bayesian priors can be added as external probabilistic constraints of the model parameters. These conference proceedings describe the science goals of the IMAGINE Consortium, the software pipeline and its inputs, viz observational data sets, Galactic magnetic field models, and Bayesian p…
We use Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging from the ACS Treasury Survey to determine fits for single population isochrones of 69 Galactic globular clusters. Using robust Bayesian analysis techniques, we simultaneously determine ages, distances, absorptions, and helium values for each cluster under the scenario of a "single" stellar population on model grids with solar ratio heavy element abundances. The set of cluster parameters is determined in a consistent and reproducible manner for all clusters using the Bayesian analysis suite BASE-9. Our results are used to re-visit the age-metallicity …
The extreme extinction ($A_V\sim30$\,mag) and its variation on arc-second scales towards the Galactic centre hamper the study of its stars. Their analysis is restricted to the near infrared (NIR) regime, where the extinction curve can be approximated by a broken power law. Therefore, correcting for extinction is fundamental to analyse the structure and stellar population of the central regions of our Galaxy. We aim to, (1) discuss different strategies to de-redden the photometry and check the usefulness of extinction; (2) build extinction maps for the NIR bands $JHK_s$ and make them publicly a…

The study of Planck microwave temperature maps towards several nearby spiral edge-on galaxies had revealed frequency independent temperature asymmetry of Doppler origin in their halos. On an example of M31, as of relatively detailed studied galaxy, the contribution of the dust component in that effect is studied using the models of dust emission and the phenomenological profiles of the dark matter configurations. The results are in accordance with those obtained from the microwave temperature asymmetry data, thus indicating the possible contribution of dust among other radiation mechanisms in …
Extragalactic astronomy relies on the accurate estimation of source photometry corrected for Milky Way dust extinction. This has motivated the creation of a number of "Galactic" dust maps. We investigate whether these maps are contaminated by extragalactic signals using the clustering-redshift technique, i.e., by measuring a set of angular cross-correlations with spectroscopic objects as a function of redshift. Our tomographic analysis reveals imprints of extragalactic large-scale structure patterns in nine out of 10 Galactic dust maps, including all infrared-based maps as well as "stellar" re…
We use Cycle 21 Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations and HST archival ACS Treasury observations of 30 Galactic Globular Clusters to characterize two distinct stellar populations. A sophisticated Bayesian technique is employed to simultaneously sample the joint posterior distribution of age, distance, and extinction for each cluster, as well as unique helium values for two populations within each cluster and the relative proportion of those populations. We find the helium differences among the two populations in the clusters fall in the range of ~0.04 to 0.11. Because adequate models varyi…
We present new three-dimensional (3D) interstellar dust reddening maps of the Galactic plane in three colours, E(G-Ks), E(Bp-Rp) and E(H-Ks). The maps have a spatial angular resolution of 6 arcmin and covers over 7000 deg$^2$ of the Galactic plane for Galactic longitude 0 deg $<$ $l$ $<$ 360 deg and latitude $|b|$ $<$ $10$ deg. The maps are constructed from robust parallax estimates from the Gaia Data Release 2 (Gaia DR2) combined with the high-quality optical photometry from the Gaia DR2 and the infrared photometry from the 2MASS and WISE surveys. We estimate the colour excesses, E(G-Ks), E(B…
We present BALRoGO: Bayesian Astrometric Likelihood Recovery of Galactic Objects, a public code to measure the centers, effective radii, and bulk proper motions of Milky Way globular clusters and Local Group dwarf spheroidals, whose data are mixed with Milky Way field stars. Our approach presents innovative methods such as surface density fits allowing for strong interloper contamination and proper motion fits using a Pearson VII distribution for interlopers, instead of classic Gaussian-mixture recipes. We also use non-parametric approaches to represent the color-magnitude diagram of such stel…
We present a new methodology for the analysis of the emission lines of the interstellar medium in the Narrow Line Regions around type-2 Active Galactic Nuclei. Our aim is to provide a recipe that can be used for large samples of objects in a consistent way using different sets of optical emission-lines that takes into the account possible variations from the (O/H)-(N/O) relation to use [N II] lines. Our approach consists of a bayesian-like comparison between certain observed emission-line ratios sensitive to total oxygen abundance, nitrogen-to-oxygen ratio and ionization parameter with the pre…
We provide new, high-resolution A(Ks) extinction maps of the heavily reddened Galactic midplane based on the Rayleigh-Jeans Color Excess ("RJCE") method. RJCE determines star-by-star reddening based on a combination of near- and mid-infrared photometry. The new RJCE-generated maps have 2 x 2 arcmin pixels and span some of the most severely extinguished regions of the Galaxy -- those covered with Spitzer+IRAC imaging by the GLIMPSE-I, -II, -3D, and Vela-Carina surveys, from 256<l<65 deg and, in general, for |b| <= 1-1.5 deg (extending up to |b|<=4 deg in the bulge). Using RJCE extinction measur…
We propose a Bayesian method to measure the total Galactic extinction parameters, $R_V$ and $A_V$. Validation tests based on the simulated data indicate that the method can achieve the accuracy of around 0.01\,mag. We apply this method to the SDSS BHB stars in the northern Galactic cap and find that the derived extinctions are highly consistent with those from \cite{SFD98}. It suggests that the Bayesian method is promising for the extinction estimation, even the reddening values are close to the observational errors.
Galactic all-sky maps at very disparate frequencies, like in the radio and $γ$-ray regime, show similar morphological structures. This mutual information reflects the imprint of the various physical components of the interstellar medium. We want to use multifrequency all-sky observations to test resolution improvement and restoration of unobserved areas for maps in certain frequency ranges. For this we aim to reconstruct or predict from sets of other maps all-sky maps that, in their original form, lack a high resolution compared to other available all-sky surveys or are incomplete in their spa…
Non-parametric Bayesian reconstruction of Galactic magnetic fields using Information Field Theory: The inclusion of line-of-sight information in ultra-high energy cosmic ray backtracking
Both the Galactic 21-cm line flux from neutral hydrogen (HI) in interstellar medium and the far-infrared (FIR) emission from Galactic dust grains have been used to estimate the strength of Galactic reddening of distant sources. In this work we use a collection of uniform color distant galaxies as color standards to determine whether the HI method or the FIR method is superior. We find that the two methods both produce reasonably accurate maps, but that both show significant errors as compared to the typical color of the background galaxies. We find that a mixture of the FIR and HI maps in roug…
Stellar masses of galaxies are frequently obtained by fitting stellar population synthesis models to galaxy photometry or spectra. The state of the art method resolves spatial structures within a galaxy to assess the total stellar mass content. In comparison to unresolved studies, resolved methods yield, on average, higher fractions of stellar mass for galaxies. In this work we improve the current method in order to mitigate a bias related to the resolved spatial distribution derived for the mass. The bias consists in an apparent filamentary mass distribution, and a spatial coincidence between…
We present arcminute-resolution intensity and polarization maps of the Galactic center made with the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT). The maps cover a 32 deg$^2$ field at 98, 150, and 224 GHz with $\vert l\vert\le4^\circ$, $\vert b\vert\le2^\circ$. We combine these data with Planck observations at similar frequencies to create coadded maps with increased sensitivity at large angular scales. With the coadded maps, we are able to resolve many known features of the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) in both total intensity and polarization. We map the orientation of the plane-of-sky component of the …
One of the fundamental goals of modern astrophysics is to estimate the physical parameters of galaxies. We present a hierarchical Bayesian model to compute age maps from images in the \Ha\ line (taken with Taurus Tunable Filter, TTF), ultraviolet band (GALEX far UV, FUV), and infrared bands (Spitzer 24, 70, and 160 $μ$m). We present the burst ages for young stellar populations in a sample of nearby and nearly face-on galaxies. The \Ha\ to FUV flux ratio is a good relative indicator of the very recent star formation history (SFH). As a nascent star-forming region evolves, the \Ha\ line emission…
As one of the series of papers reporting on a large reverberation mapping campaign, we apply the maximum entropy method (MEM) to 9 narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies with super-Eddington accretion rates observed during 2012-2013 for the velocity-delay maps of their Hβ and Hγ emission lines. The maps of 6 objects are reliably reconstructed using MEM. The maps of Hβ and Hγ emission lines of Mrk 335 indicate that the gas of its broad-line region (BLR) is infalling. For Mrk 142, its Hβ and Hγ lines show signatures of outflow. The Hβ and Hγ maps of Mrk 1044 demonstrate complex kinematics -- a virialize…
We investigate the large scale metallicity distribution in the Galactic bulge, using a large spatial coverage, in order to constrain the bulge formation scenario. We use the VISTA variables in the Via Lactea (VVV) survey data and 2MASS photometry, covering 320 sqdeg of the Galactic bulge, to derive photometric metallicities by interpolating of the (J-Ks)0 colors of individual Red Giant Branch stars based on a set of globular cluster ridge lines. We then use this information to construct the first global metallicity map of the bulge with a resolution of 30'x45'. The metallicity map of the bulge…
We use near-infrared (J-K)-colours of bright 2MASS galaxies, measured within a 7"-radius aperture, to calibrate the Schlegel et al. (1998) DIRBE/IRAS Galactic extinction map at low Galactic latitudes ($|b| < 10^{\rm o}$). Using 3460 galaxies covering a large range in extinction (up to $A_K$ = 1.15 or E(B-V) ~ 3.19), we derive a correction factor $f = 0.83 \pm 0.01$ by fitting a linear regression to the colour-extinction relation, confirming that the Schlegel et al. maps overestimate the extinction. We argue that the use of only a small range in extinction (e.g., $A_K$ < 0.4) increases the unce…
With the wealth of information from large surveys and observational campaigns in the contemporary era, it is critical to properly exploit the data to constrain the parameters of Galactic chemical evolution models and quantify the associated uncertainties. We aim at constraining the two-infall chemical evolution models for the solar annulus using the measured chemical abundance ratios and seismically inferred age of stars in the APOKASC sample. In the revised two-infall chemical evolution models by Spitoni et al. (2019), a significant delay of $\sim 4.3$ Gyr has been invoked between the two epi…
Characterizing the structure of the Galactic interstellar medium (ISM) in three dimensions is of high importance for accurate modeling of dust emission as a foreground to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). At high Galactic latitude, where the total dust content is low, accurate maps of the 3D structure of the ISM are lacking. We develop a method to quantify the complexity of the distribution of dust along the line of sight with the use of HI line emission. The method relies on a Gaussian decomposition of the HI spectra to disentangle the emission from overlapping components in velocity. We…
Fluctuations in the Galactic synchrotron emission can be traced by the angular power spectrum of radio maps at low multipoles. At frequencies below few GHz, large-scale anisotropies are mainly induced by magnetic field turbulence. By performing an analysis of five radio maps, we extract constraints on turbulence spectral index and halo scale. Results favour a power spectrum significantly flatter than for 3D Kolmogorov-like turbulence, and a thin halo. This can be interpreted as an indication supporting non-conventional models of propagation of cosmic-ray particles in the Galaxy, or as a sugges…
Following on from the second release of calibrated photometry from IPHAS, the INT/WFC Photometric H-alpha Survey of the Northern Galactic Plane, we present incompleteness-corrected stellar density maps in the r and i photometric bands. These have been computed to a range of limiting magnitudes reaching to 20th magnitude in r and 19th in i (Vega system), and with different angular resolutions -- the highest resolution available being 1 square arcminute. The maps obtained cover 94 percent of the 1800 square-degree IPHAS footprint, spanning the Galactic latitude range, -5° < b < +5°, north of the…
The number and properties of observed gravitational microlensing events depend on the distribution and kinematics of stars and other compact objects along the line of sight. In particular, precise measurements of the microlensing optical depth and event rate toward the Galactic bulge enable strict tests of competing models of the Milky Way. Previous estimates, based on samples of up to a few hundred events, gave larger values than expected from the Galactic models and were difficult to reconcile with other constraints on the Galactic structure. Here we used long-term photometric observations o…
Context. While Gaia enables to probe in great detail the extended local neighbourhood, the thin disk structure at larger distances remains sparsely explored. Aims. We aim here to build a non-parametric 3D model of the thin disc structures handling both the extinction and the stellar density simultaneously. Methods. We developed a Bayesian deconvolution method in two dimensions: extinction and distance. It uses a reference catalogue which completeness information defines the selection function. It is designed so that any complementary information from other catalogues can be added. It has also …
We describe new Hi-GAL based maps of the entire Galactic Plane, obtained using continuum data in the wavelength range 70-500 $μ$m. These maps are derived with the PPMAP procedure, and therefore represent a significant improvement over those obtained with standard analysis techniques. Specifically they have greatly improved resolution (12 arcsec) and, in addition to more accurate integrated column densities and mean dust temperatures, they give temperature-differential column densities, i.e., separate column density maps in twelve distinct dust temperature intervals, along with the correspondin…
Context: In our Paper I, by using statistical deconvolution methods, extended kinematics maps of Gaia-DR2 data have been produced in a range of heliocentric distances that are a factor of two to three larger than those analyzed previously by the Gaia Collaboration with the same data. It added the range of Galactocentric distances between 13 kpc and 20 kpc to the previous maps. Aims: Here, we investigate the dynamical effects produced by different mechanisms that can explain the radial and vertical components of these extended kinematic maps, including a decomposition of bending and breathing o…
We analyse the observational signatures of galactic magnetic fields that are self-consistently generated in magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the interstellar medium through turbulence driven by supernova (SN) explosions and differential rotation. In particular, we study the time evolution of the Faraday rotation measure (RM), synchrotron radiation, and Stokes parameters by characterising the typical structures formed in the plane of observation. We do this by defining two distinct models for both thermal and cosmic ray (CR) electron distributions. Our results indicate that the maps of RM hav…
One of the fundamental goals of modern Astronomy is to estimate the physical parameters of galaxies from images in different spectral bands. We present a hierarchical Bayesian model for obtaining age maps from images in the \Ha\ line (taken with Taurus Tunable Filter (TTF)), ultraviolet band (far UV or FUV, from GALEX) and infrared bands (24, 70 and 160 microns ($μ$m), from Spitzer). As shown in Sánchez-Gil et al. (2011), we present the burst ages for young stellar populations in the nearby and nearly face on galaxy M74. As it is shown in the previous work, the \Ha\ to FUV flux ratio gives a g…
Using a sample of 96,201 primary red clump (RC) stars selected from the LAMOST and Gaia surveys, we investigate the stellar structure of the Galactic disk. The sample stars show two separated sequences of high-[α/Fe] and low-[α/Fe] in the [α/Fe]-[Fe/H] plane. We divide the sample stars into five mono-abundance populations (MAPs) with different ranges of [α/Fe] and [Fe/H], named as the high-[α/Fe], high-[α/Fe] & high-[Fe/H], low-[Fe/H], solar, high-[Fe/H] MAPs respectively. We present the stellar number density distributions in the R R Z plane, and the scale heights and scale lengths of the ind…
Three-dimensional (3D) maps of Galactic interstellar dust are a tool for a wide range of uses. We aim to construct 3D maps of dust extinction in the Local Arm and surrounding regions. Gaia EDR3 photometric data were combined with 2MASS measurements to derive extinction towards stars with accurate photometry and relative uncertainties on parallaxes of less than 20%. We applied our hierarchical inversion algorithm adapted to inhomogeneous spatial distributions of target stars to this catalogue of extinctions. We present the updated 3D dust extinction distribution and provide an estimate of the e…
(Abridged) We present maps for various Galactic longitudes and latitudes at 1.4 GHz, which is the frequency where deep SKA surveys are proposed. The maps are about 1.5 deg in size and have an angular resolution of about 1.6 arcsec. We analyse the maps in terms of their probability density functions (PDFs) and structure functions. Total intensity emission is more smooth in the plane than at high latitudes due to the different contributions from the regular and random magnetic field. The high latitude fields show more extended polarized emission and RM structures than those in the plane, where p…
We investigate the connection between galactic outflows and star formation using two independent data sets covering a sample of 22 galaxies between $1 \lesssim z \lesssim 1.5$. The HST WFC3/G141 grism provides low spectral resolution, high spatial resolution spectroscopy yielding H$α$ emission line maps from which we measure the spatial extent and strength of star formation. In the rest-frame near-UV, Keck/DEIMOS observes Fe II and Mg II interstellar absorption lines, which provide constraints on the intensity and velocity of the outflows. We compare outflow properties from individual and comp…
We used the multiplex capabilities of the AAOmega spectrograph at the Anglo-Australian Telescope to create a half-square-degree map of the neutral and low-ionized ISM in front of the nearby (~5 kpc), most massive Galactic globular cluster, omega Centauri. Its redshifted, metal-poor and hot horizontal branch stars probe the medium-strong Ca II K and Na I D2 line absorption, and weak absorption in the lambda5780 and lambda5797 Diffuse Interstellar Bands (DIBs), on scales around a parsec. The kinematical and thermodynamical picture emerging from these data is that we predominantly probe the warm …
We have observed the central region of the nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253 with the Kyoto Tridimensional Spectrograph II (Kyoto3DII) Fabry-Perot mode in order to investigate the properties of its galactic wind. Since this galaxy has a large inclination, it is easy to observe its galactic wind. We produced the Ha, [N II]6583, and [S II]6716,6731 images, as well as those line ratio maps. The [N II]/Ha ratio in the galactic wind region is larger than those in H II regions in the galactic disk. The [N II]/Ha ratio in the southeastern filament, a part of the galactic wind, is the largest and reache…
The spatial structure of stellar populations with different chemical abundances in the Milky Way contains a wealth of information on Galactic evolution over cosmic time. We use data on 14,699 red-clump stars from the APOGEE survey, covering 4 kpc <~ R <~ 15 kpc, to determine the structure of mono-abundance populations (MAPs)---stars in narrow bins in [a/Fe] and [Fe/H]---accounting for the complex effects of the APOGEE selection function and the spatially-variable dust obscuration. We determine that all MAPs with enhanced [a/Fe] are centrally concentrated and are well-described as exponentials …

Reverberation mapping probes the structure of the broad emission-line region (BLR) in active galactic nuclei (AGN). The kinematics of the BLR gas can be used to measure the mass of the central supermassive black hole. The main uncertainty affecting black hole mass determinations is the structure of the BLR. We present a new method for reverberation mapping based on regularized linear inversion (RLI) that includes modelling of the AGN continuum light curves. This enables fast calculation of velocity-resolved response maps to constrain BLR structure. RLI allows for negative response, such as whe…
A morphological} search for molecular shells and cavities was performed around 63 Galactic supernova remnants (SNR) at $10^\circ \le l \le 50^\circ$, $|b|\le 1^\circ $using the FUGIN (FOREST Unbiased Galactic Imaging survey with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope) CO line data at high angular ($20''$) and velocity (1.3 km s$^{-1}$) resolutions. The results are presented as supplementary data for general purpose for investigations of the interaction between SNRs and interstellar matter in the form of an atlas of CO-line maps superposed on radio continuum maps at 20 cm along with a list of their kinema…
In this work we introduce a physically motivated method of performing disc/spheroid decomposition of simulated galaxies, which we apply to the Eagle sample. We make use of the HEALPix package to create Mollweide projections of the angular momentum map of each galaxy's stellar particles. A number of features arise on the angular momentum space which allows us to decompose galaxies and classify them into different morphological types. We assign stellar particles with angular separation of less/greater than 30 degrees from the densest grid cell on the angular momentum sphere to the disc/spheroid …
The Planck Collaboration has recently released maps of the microwave sky in both temperature and polarization. Diffuse astrophysical components (including Galactic emissions, cosmic far infrared (IR) background, y-maps of the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect) and catalogs of many thousands of Galactic and extragalactic radio and far-IR sources, and galaxy clusters detected through the SZ effect are the main astrophysical products of the mission. A concise overview of these results and of astrophysical studies based on Planck data is presented.
This paper provides full sky maps of foreground emission in all WMAP channels, with very low residual contamination from the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies and controlled level of instrumental noise. Foreground maps are obtained by subtraction of a properly filtered CMB map, obtained from linear combinations of needlet-based representations of all WMAP observations and of a 100-micron map. The error in the reconstructed foreground maps on large scales is significantly lower than the original error due to CMB contamination, while remaining of the order of the original WMAP noise…
Correlation analysis is obtained among Faraday rotation measure, HI column density, thermal and synchrotron radio brightness using archival all-sky maps of the Galaxy. A method is presented to calculate the magnetic strength and its line-of-sight (LOS) component, volume gas densities, effective LOS depth, effective scale height of the disk) from these data in a hybrid way. Applying the method to archival data, all-sky maps of the local magnetic field strength and its parallel component are obtained, which reveal details of local field orientation.
We present kinematical analyses of 22 Galactic globular clusters using the Hubble Space Telescope proper motion (HSTPROMO) catalogues recently presented in Bellini et al. (2014). For most clusters, this is the first proper-motion study ever performed, and, for many, this is the most detailed kinematic study of any kind. We use cleaned samples of bright stars to determine binned velocity-dispersion and velocity-anisotropy radial profiles and two-dimensional velocity-dispersion spatial maps. Using these profiles, we search for correlations between cluster kinematics and structural properties. We…
We introduce the public version of the BAyesian STellar Algorithm (BASTA), an open-source code written in {\tt Python} to determine stellar properties based on a set of astrophysical observables. BASTA has been specifically designed to robustly combine large datasets that include asteroseismology, spectroscopy, photometry, and astrometry. We describe the large number of asteroseismic observations that can be fit by the code and how these can be combined with atmospheric properties (as well as parallaxes and apparent magnitudes), making it the most complete analysis pipeline available for oscil…
The Internal Linear Combination (ILC) method has been extensively used to extract the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy map from foreground contaminated multi-frequency maps. However, the performance of simple ILC is limited and can be significantly improved by heavily constraint equations, dubbed cILC. The standard ILC and cILC works on the spin-0 field. Recently, a generalized version of ILC is developed to estimate polarization maps in which the quantity $Q \pm iU$ is combined at multiple frequencies using complex coefficients called Polarization ILC (PILC). A statistical moment …
During the last decades, much effort has been devoted to explain the discrepancy between the amount of intracluster medium (ICM) estimated from stellar evolution theories and that emerging from observations in globular clusters (GCs). One possible scenario is the accretion of this medium by an intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH) at the centre of the cluster. In this work, we aim at modelling the cluster colour-excess profile as a tracer of the ICM density, both with and without an IMBH. Comparing the profiles with observations allows us to test the existence of IMBHs and their possible role in…
Hydrodynamic simulations suggest that galactic gas disks form when coplanar gas spirals into the inner regions of the disk. We recently presented a simple "modified accretion disk" model of viscous galactic disks in which star-formation is fed by a radial flow of gas. However, little observational evidence has been presented for such inflows, which are expected to be only a few km s$^{-1}$ in the central regions of the disk, i.e. within three disk scale-lengths, but could reach of order 50-100 km s$^{-1}$ in the very outer disk. The effects of systematic inflow on the 2-d velocity field are ex…
