We study the superconformal index of 4d $\mathcal{N}=4$ $USp(2N_c)$ and $SO(N_c)$ SYM from a matrix model perspective. We focus on the Cardy-like limit of the index. Both in the symplectic and orthogonal case the index is dominated by a saddle point solution which we identify, reducing the calculation to a matrix integral of a pure Chern-Simons theory on the three-sphere. We further compute the subleading logarithmic corrections, which are of the order of the center of the gauge group. In the $USp(2N_c)$ case we also study other subleading saddles of the matrix integral. Finally we discuss the case of the Leigh-Strassler fixed point with $SU(N_c)$ gauge group, and we compute the entropy of the dual black hole from the Legendre transform of the entropy function.
We study the gravity duals of SO/USp superconformal quiver gauge theories realized by M5-branes wrapping on a Riemann surface ("G-curve") together with a Z_2-quotient. When the G-curve has no punctures, the gravity solutions are classified by the genus g of the G-curve and the torsion part of the four-form flux G_4. We also find that there is an interesting relation between anomaly contributions from two mysterious theories: T_{SO(2N)} theory with SO(2N)^3 flavor symmetry and \tilde{T}_{SO(2N)} theory with SO(2N) x USp(2N-2)^2 flavor symmetry. The dual gravity solutions for various SO/USp-type…
We study the dynamics of a confining vacuum in N=2 USp(4) gauge theory with n_f=4. The vacuum appears to be a deformed conformal theory with nonabelian gauge symmetry. The low-energy degrees of freedom consist of four nonabelian magnetic monopole doublets of the effective SU(2) colour group, two dyon doublets and one electric doublet. In this description the flavour quantum number is carried only by the monopoles. We argue that confinement is caused by the condensation of these monopoles, and involves strongly interacting nonabelian degrees of freedom.
We realize four-dimensional N=2 superconformal quiver gauge theories with alternating SO and USp gauge groups as compactifications of the six-dimensional D_N theory with defects. The construction can be used to analyze infinitely strongly-coupled limits and S-dualities of such gauge theories, resulting in a new class of isolated four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories with SO(2N)^3 flavor symmetry.
We consider the four dimensional scale invariant N=2 SU quiver gauge theories with USp(2N) ends or SU(2N) ends with antisymmetric matter representations. We argue that these theories are realized as six dimensional A_{2N-1} (0,2) theories compactified on spheres with punctures. With this realization, we can study various strongly coupled cusps in moduli space and find the S-dual theories. We find a class of isolated superconformal field theories with only odd dimensional operators $D(ϕ)\geq3$ and superconformal field theories with only even dimensional operators $D(ϕ)\geq4$.
We point out that the $\text{USp}$ symmetry associated to a full twisted puncture of a class S theory of type $A_\text{even}$ has the global anomaly associated to $π_4(\text{USp})=\mathbb{Z}_2$. We discuss manifestations of this fact in the context of the superconformal field theory $R_{2,2N}$ introduced by Chacaltana, Distler and Trimm. For example, we find that this theory can be thought of as a natural ultraviolet completion of an infrared-free $\text{SO}(2N+1)$ gauge theory with $2N$ flavors, whose $\text{USp}(4N)$ symmetry clearly has the global anomaly.
We study $N=5$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions with compact, non-compact and non-semisimple gauge groups. The theory under consideration is of Chern-Simons type with $USp(4,k)/USp(4)\times USp(k)$ scalar manifold. We classify possible semisimple gauge groups of the $k=2,4$ cases and identify some of their critical points. A number of supersymmetric $AdS_3$ critical points are found, and holographic RG flows interpolating between these critical points are also investigated. As one of our main results, we consider a non-semisimple gauge group $SO(5)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{10}$ for the theory…
We generalize recent construction of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ SCFT from wrapping six-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(2,0)$ theory on a Riemann surface to the case of $D$-type with outer-automorphism twists. This construction allows us to build various dual theories for a class of $\mathcal{N}=1$ quiver theories of $SO-USp$ type. In particular, we find there are five dual frames to $SO(2N)/USp(2N-2)/G_2$ gauge theories with $(4N-4)/4N/8$ fundamental flavors, where three of them are non-Lagrangian. We check the dualities by computing the anomaly coefficients and the superconformal indices. In …
We study various aspects of the 4d/3d reduction of $\mathcal{N}=1$ dualities involving $USp(2N_c)$ gauge theories with $2N_f$ fundamentals and one antisymmetric. We discuss the non-trivial role played by the monopole superpotentials in the reduction and obtain new 3d dualities for models with both symplectic and unitary gauge groups. For $N_f=4$ we observe interesting webs of dualities and symmetry enhancements, recovering and extending some results already appeared in the literature.
We develop a superfield formulation of $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with gauged central charge in $USp(4)$ harmonic superspace. Component formulation of this theory was given by Sohnius, Stelle and West \cite{SSW80} but its superfield formulation has not been constructed so far. We construct the superfield action, corresponding to this model, and show that it reproduces the component action from \cite{SSW80}.
We present a general method for computing the central charges a and c of N=2 superconformal field theories corresponding to singular points in the moduli space of N=2 gauge theories. Our method relates a and c to the U(1)_R anomalies of the topologically twisted gauge theory. We evaluate these anomalies by studying the holomorphic dependence of the path integral measure on the moduli. We calculate a and c for superconformal points in a variety of gauge theories, including N=4 SU(N), N=2 pure SU(N) Yang-Mills, and USp(2N) with 1 massless antisymmetric and 4 massive fundamental hypermultiplets. …
We generalize the results of Polchinski and Strassler regarding the N=1-preserving mass deformation of N=4 SU(N) SYM theories and its string theory dual to SO(N) and USp(2N) gauge groups. The string theory duals involve 5-branes wrapped on RP^2. In order to match with the field theory classification of vacua, the 3-brane charge carried by such 5-branes must be shifted by a half, and this follows from a conjectured generalization of results of Freed and Witten. Our results provide an elegant physical picture for the classification of classically massive vacua in the mass-deformed N=4 theories.
We provide evidences for the duality between ${\cal N}=6$ $U(M)_{4} \times U(N)_{-4}$ Chern-Simons matter theory and ${\cal N}=5$ $O(\hat{M})_{2} \times USp(2\hat{N})_{-1}$ theory for a suitable $\hat{M},\hat{N}$ by working out the superconformal index, which shows perfect matching. For ${\cal N}=5$ theories, we show that supersymmetry is enhanced to ${\cal N}=6$ by explicitly constructing monopole operators filling in $SO(6)_R$ $R$-currents. Finally we work out the large $N$ index of $O(2N)_{2k} \times USp(2N)_{-k}$ and show that it exactly matches with the gravity index on $AdS_4 \times S^7/…
We study the N=4 harmonic superparticle model, both with and without central charge and quantize it. Since the central charge breaks the U(4) R-symmetry group of the N=4 superalgebra down to USp(4), we consider the superparticle dynamics in N=4 harmonic superspace with USp(4)/(U(1)xU(1)) harmonic variables. We show that the quantization of a massive superparticle with central charge leads to a superfield realization of the N=4 massive vector multiplet in N=4 harmonic superspace. In the massless case without central charge the superparticle quantization reproduces three different multiplets: th…
We study 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SQCD with symplectic and orthogonal gauge groups and adjoint matter. For $USp(2n)$ with two fundamentals and $SO(N)$ with one vector these models have been recently shown to s-confine. Here we corroborate the validity of this proposal by relating it to the confinement of $USp(2n)$ with four fundamentals and an antisymmetric tensor, using exact mathematical results coming from the analysis of the partition function on the squashed three-sphere. Our analysis allows us to conjecture new s-confining theories for a higher number of fundamentals and vectors, in presence o…
We present a zero dimensional matrix model based on $USp(2k)$ with supermultiplets in symmetric, antisymmetric and fundamental representations. The four dimensional compactification of this model naturally captures the exact results of Sen \cite{Sen} in $F$ theory. Eight dynamical and eight kinematical supercharges are found, which is required for critical string interpretation. Classical vacuum has ten coordinates and is equipped with orbifold structure. We clarify the issue of spacetime dimensions which $F$ theory represented by this matrix model produces.
Three-dimensional N-extended superconformal symmetry is studied within the superspace formalism. A superconformal Killing equation is derived and its solutions are classified in terms of supertranslations, dilations, Lorentz transformations, R-symmetry transformations and special superconformal transformations. Superconformal group is then identified with a supermatrix group, OSp(N|2,R), as expected from the analysis on simple Lie superalgebras. In general, due to the invariance under supertranslations and special superconformal transformations, superconformally invariant n-point functions red…
We construct a family of $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=1$ theories that we call $E^σ_ρ[USp(2N)]$ which exhibit a novel type of $4d$ IR duality very reminiscent of the mirror duality enjoyed by the $3d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ $T^σ_ρ[SU(N)]$ theories. We obtain the $E^σ_ρ[USp(2N)]$ theories from the recently introduced $E[USp(2N)]$ theory, by following the RG flow initiated by vevs labelled by partitions $ρ$ and $σ$ for two operators transforming in the antisymmetric representations of the $USp(2N) \times USp(2N)$ IR symmetries of the $E[USp(2N)]$ theory. These vevs are the $4d$ uplift of the ones we turn on for t…
A matrix model is presented which leads to the discrete ``eigenvalue model'' proposed recently by Alvarez-Gaumé {\it et.al.} for 2D supergravity (coupled to superconformal matters).
Based on the structure of the three-dimensional superconformal algebra we show that every irreducible ${\mathcal N}=6$ three-dimensional superconformal theory containes exactly one conserved U(1)-symmetry current in the stress tensor supermultiplet and that superconformal symmetry of every ${\mathcal N}=7$ superconformal theory is in fact enhanced to ${\mathcal N}=8$. Moreover, an irreducible ${\cal N}=8$ superconformal theory does not have any global symmetries. The first observation explains why all known examples of ${\mathcal N}=6$ superconformal theories have a global abelian symmetry.
We review the construction and theoretical implications of the USp(2k) matrix model in zero dimension introduced in ref. \cite{IT1,IT2}. It is argued that the model provides a constructive approach to Type I superstrings and is at the same time dynamical theory of spacetime points. Three subjects are discussed : semiclassical pictures and series of degenerate perturbative vacua associated with the worldvolume representation of the model, the formation of extended (D-)objects from the fermionic integrations via the (non-)abelian Berry phase, and the Schwinger-Dyson/loop equations which exhibit …
We uncover a general principle, dubbed c-extremization, which determines the exact R-symmetry of a two-dimensional unitary superconformal field theory with N=(0,2) supersymmetry. To illustrate its utility, we study superconformal theories obtained by twisted compactifications of four-dimensional N=4 super-Yang-Mills on Riemann surfaces, and construct their gravity duals.
Four-dimensional N-extended superconformal symmetry and correlation functions of quasi-primary superfields are studied within the superspace formalism. A superconformal Killing equation is derived and its solutions are classified in terms of supertranslations, dilations, Lorentz transformations, R-symmetry transformations and special superconformal transformations. In general, due to the invariance under supertranslations and special superconformal transformations, superconformally invariant n-point functions reduce to one unspecified (n-2)-point function which must transform homogeneously und…
The extension of the noncommutative u*(N) Lie algebra to noncommutative orthogonal and symplectic Lie algebras is studied. Using an anti-automorphism of the star-matrix algebra, we show that the u*(N) can consistently be restricted to o*(N) and usp*(N) algebras that have new mathematical structures. We give explicit fundamental matrix representations of these algebras, through which the formulation for the corresponding noncommutative gauge field theories are obtained. In addition, we present a D-brane configuration with an orientifold which realizes geometrically our algebraic construction, t…
The anomalous Ward-Takahashi identity for the superconformal symmetry in the four-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory is studied in terms of the stochastic quantization method (SQM). By applying the background field method to the SQM approach, we derive the superconformal anomaly in the one-loop approximation and show that the supersymmetric stochastic gauge fixing term does not contribute to the anomaly.
We study the two-point correlators of the currents of the $E_8$ global symmetry in the $N=(1,0)$ superconformal six-dimensional theory as well as in the 4D superconformal theories upon toroidal compactification. From the high-energy behavior of the correlator we deduce that in 4D 10 copies of the superconformal theory with $E_8$ global symmetry can be coupled to an N=2 $E_8$ gauge theory. We present three alternative derivations for the expression for the correlators. One from field-theory, one from M-theory and one from F-theory.
Recent studies of scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 SYM theory revealed the existence of a hidden dual superconformal symmetry. Together with the conventional superconformal symmetry it gives rise to powerful restrictions on the planar scattering amplitudes to all loops. We study the general form of the invariants of both symmetries. We first construct an integral representation for the most general dual superconformal invariants and show that it allows a considerable freedom in the choice of the integration measure. We then perform a half-Fourier transform to twistor space, where convention…
The UV fixed point theory of SU(2) gauge theory with N_f = 0,1,...,7 flavors is believed to have the enlarged E_{N_f +1} flavor symmetry. Actually it is not easy to check this conjecture because the UV theory is strongly-coupled, however, computation of certain SUSY protected quantities provides strong evidence for the enhancement of flavor symmetry. We study the superconformal index for SU(2) gauge theory with N_f = 0, 1 flavors in details, and we give a support for the enhancement by studying combinatorial structure of the superconformal indexes of these theories. We also give a nontrivial e…
We present a new, general constraint which, in principle, determines the superconformal $U(1)_R$ symmetry of 4d $\N =1$ SCFTs, and also 3d $\N =2$ SCFTs. Among all possibilities, the superconformal $U(1)_R$ is that which minimizes the coefficient, $τ_{RR}$, of its two-point function. Equivalently, the superconformal $U(1)_R$ is the unique one with vanishing two-point function with every non-R flavor symmetry. For 4d $\N =1$ SCFTs, $τ_{RR}$ minimization gives an alternative to a-maximization. $τ_{RR}$ minimization also applies in 3d, where no condition for determining the superconformal $U(1)_R…
For general N=5 and N=6 superconformal field theories in three dimensions, we compute the three-point correlation functions of the supercurrent multiplets. In each case, N=5 and N=6, the functional form of this correlator is uniquely fixed modulo an overall coefficient which is related, by superconformal Ward identities, to the parameter in the two-point function of the supercurrent. The structure of the correlation functions obtained is consistent with the property that every N=5 superconformal field theory, considered as a special N=4 theory, is invariant under the mirror map.
We study the Higgs branches of the superconformal points of four-dimensional N=2 super Yang-Mills (SYM) which appear due to the occurrence of mutually local monopoles having appropriate charges. We show, for example, that the maximal superconformal point of SU(2n) SYM has a Higgs branch of the form C^2/Z_n. These Higgs branches are intrinsic to the superconformal field theory (SCFT) at the superconformal point, but do not appear in the SYM theory in which it is embedded. This is because the embedding is a UV extension of the SCFT in which some global symmetry acting on the Higgs branch is gaug…
We review recent results on the general structure of two- and three- point functions of the supercurrent and the flavor current of N = 2 superconformal field theories.
In this paper we present various $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=1$ dualities involving theories obtained by gluing two $E[USp(2N)]$ blocks via the gauging of a common $USp(2N)$ symmetry with the addition of $2L$ fundamental matter chiral fields. For $L=0$ in particular the theory has a quantum deformed moduli space with chiral symmetry breaking and its index takes the form of a delta-function. We interpret it as the Identity wall which identifies the two surviving $USp(2N)$ of each $E[USp(2N)]$ block. All the dualities are derived from iterative applications of the Intriligator--Pouliot duality. This plays…
We consider families of theories with large N=4 superconformal symmetry. We define an index generalizing the elliptic genus of theories with N=2 symmetry. In contrast to the N=2 case, the new index constrains part of the non-BPS spectrum. Motivated by aspects of the AdS/CFT correspondence we study the index in the examples of symmetric product theories. We give a physical interpretation of the Hecke operators which appear in the expressions for partition functions of such theories. Finally, we compute the index for a nontrivial example of a symmetric product theory.
We study finite size effects for composite operators in the SU(2) sector of the superconformal beta-deformed N=4 SYM theory. In particular we concentrate on the spectrum of one single magnon. Since in this theory one-impurity states are non BPS we compute their anomalous dimensions including wrapping contributions up to four loops and discuss higher order effects.
Recently, the superconformal index for a class of 5-dimensional superconformal quantum field theories with gauge group SU(2) and $N_f$ flavors was computed in Kim, Kim, and Lee (2012) to a few low orders in the chemical potential and enhancement of the global symmetry to $E_{N_f+1}$ was confirmed to this low order. In this note I provide an argument that the information contained in these few low order terms in the expansion of the index is sufficient to prove the enhancement of global symmetries in the theories. So, in particular the expression for the indices must display the enhancement to …
We construct and study the 6D dual superconformal algebra. Our construction is inspired by the dual superconformal symmetry of massless 4D $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM and extends the previous construction of the enhanced dual conformal algebra for 6D $\mathcal{N}=(1,1)$ SYM to the full 6D dual superconformal algebra for chiral theories. We formulate constraints in 6D spinor helicity formalism and find all generators of the 6D dual superconformal algebra. Next we check that they agree with the dual superconformal generators of known 3D and 4D theories. We show that it is possible to significantly simpl…
Crossing symmetry provides a powerful tool to access the non-perturbative dynamics of conformal and superconformal field theories. Here we develop the mathematical formalism that allows to construct the crossing equations for arbitrary four-point functions in theories with superconformal symmetry of type I, including all superconformal field theories in $d=4$ dimensions. Our advance relies on a supergroup theoretic construction of tensor structures that generalizes an approach which was put forward in \cite{Buric:2019dfk} for bosonic theories. When combined with our recent construction of the …
The implications of N=1 superconformal symmetry for four dimensional quantum field theories are studied. Superconformal covariant expressions for two and three point functions of quasi-primary superfields of arbitrary spin are found and connected with the operator product expansion. The general formulae are specialised to cases involving a scalar superfield L, which contains global symmetry currents, and the supercurrent, which contains the energy momentum tensor, and the consequences of superconformal Ward identities analysed. The three point function of L is shown to have unique completely a…
We evaluate the full planar one-loop dilation operator of N=2 SuperConformal QCD, the SU(N_c) super Yang-Mills theory with N_f = 2 N_c fundamental hypermultiplets, in the flavor-singlet sector. Remarkably, the spin-chain Hamiltonian turns out to be completely fixed by superconformal symmetry, as in N=4 SYM. We present a more general calculation, for the superconformal quiver theory with SU(N_c)X SU(N_c) gauge group, which interpolates between N=2 SCQCD and the Z_2 orbifold of N=4 SYM; here symmetry fixes the Hamiltonian up to a single parameter, corresponding to the ratio of the two marginal g…
We study the nonrelativistic limit of the $N=2$ supersymmetric Chern-Simons matter system. We show that in addition to Galilean invariance the model admits a set of symmetries generated by fermionic charges, which can be interpreted as an {\it extended Galilean supersymmetry }. The system also possesses a hidden conformal invariance and then the full group of symmetries is the {\it extended superconformal Galilean} group. We also show that imposing extended superconformal Galilean symmetry determines the values of the coupling constants in such a way that their values in the bosonic sector agr…
We study implications of N=4 superconformal symmetry in three dimensions, thus extending our earlier results in arXiv:1503.04961 devoted to the N=1,2,3 cases. We show that the three-point function of the supercurrent in N=4 superconformal field theories contains two linearly independent forms. However, only one of these structures contributes to the three-point function of the energy-momentum tensor and the other one is present in those N=4 superconformal theories which are not invariant under the mirror map. We point out that general N=4 superconformal field theories admit two inequivalent fl…
Recently, the conformal-bootstrap has been successfully used to obtain generic bounds on the spectrum and OPE coefficients of unitary conformal field theories. In practice, these bounds are obtained by assuming the existence of a scalar operator in the theory and analyzing the crossing-symmetry constraints of its 4-point function. In $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal theories with a global symmetry there is always a scalar primary operator, which is the top of the current-multiplet. In this paper we analyze the crossing-symmetry constraints of the 4-point function of this operator for $\mathcal{N…
We introduce a generalization of the S^2 x S^1 superconformal index where background gauge fields with magnetic flux are coupled to the global symmetries of the theory. This allows one to gauge a global symmetry at the level of the index, which we use to show the matching of the superconformal index for N=2 SQED with N_f flavors and its mirror dual.
We extend our formulation of the covariant quantum superstring as a WZNW model with N=2 superconformal symmetry to N=4. The two anticommuting BRST charges in the N=4 multiplet of charges are the usual BRST charge Q_S and a charge Q_V proposed by Dijkgraaf, Verlinde and Verlinde for topological models. Using our recent work on "gauging cosets", we then construct a further charge Q_C which anticommutes with Q_S + Q_V and which is intended for the definition of the physical spectrum.
The bosonic parts of D3-brane actions in AdS(5) backgrounds are known to have symmetries which are field-dependent extensions of conformal transformations of the worldvolume coordinates. Using the coset space SU(2,2|1)/SO(4,1), we apply the method of nonlinear realizations to construct a four-dimensional N = 1 off-shell supersymmetric action which has a generalized field-dependent superconformal invariance. The Goldstone fields for broken scale, chiral and S-supersymmetry transformations form a chiral supermultiplet.
We study quantum mechanical systems with $\mathfrak{osp}(4^{*}|4)$ superconformal symmetry. We classify unitary lowest-weight representations of this superconformal algebra and define an index which receives contributions from short and semi-short multiplets only. We consider the example of a quantum mechanical $σ$-model with hyper-Kähler target $\mathcal{M}$ equipped with a triholomorphic homothety. The superconformal index coincides with the Witten index of a novel form of supersymmetric quantum mechanics for a particle moving on $\mathcal{M}$ in a background magnetic field in which an unbro…
Superstrings propagating on backgrounds of the form AdS_3 x G/H are studied using the coset CFT approach. We focus on seven dimensional cosets which have a semiclassical limit, and which give rise to N=3 superconformal symmetry in the dual CFT. This is realized for the two cases AdS_3 x SU(3)/U(1) and AdS_3 x SO(5)/SO(3), for which we present an explicit construction. We also provide sufficient conditions on a CFT background to enable a similar construction, and comment on the geometrical interpretation of our results.
Quantum mechanics on the moduli space of N supersymmetric Reissner-Nordstrom black holes is shown to admit 4 supersymmetries using an unconventional supermultiplet which contains 3N bosons and 4N fermions. A near-horizon limit is found in which the quantum mechanics of widely separated black holes decouples from that of strongly-interacting, near-coincident black holes. This near-horizon theory is shown to have an enhanced D(2,1;0) superconformal symmetry. The bosonic symmetries are SL(2,R) conformal symmetry and SU(2)xSU(2) R-symmetry arising from spatial rotations and the R-symmetry of N=2 s…
We obtain the elliptic curve corresponding to an $N=2$ superconformal field theory which has an $E_6$ global symmetry at the strong coupling point $τ=e^{πi/3}$. We also find the Seiberg-Witten differential $λ_{SW}$ for this theory. This differential has 27 poles corresponding to the fundamental representation of $E_6$. The complex conjugate representation has its poles on the other sheet. We also show that the $E_6$ curve reduces to the $D_4$ curve of Seiberg and Witten. Finally, we compute the monodromies and use these to compute BPS masses in an $F$-Theory compactification.
N=1, d=4 superconformal group is studied and its representations are discussed. Under superconformal transformations, left invariant derivatives and some class of superfields, including supercurrents, are shown to follow these representations. In other words, these superfields are quasi-primary by analogy with two dimensional conformal field theory. Based on these results, we find the general forms of the two-point and the three-point correlation functions of the quasi-primary superfields in a group theoretical way. In particular, we show that the two-point function of the supercurrent is uniq…
The five-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory with Sp(N) gauge group and SO(2N_f) flavor symmetry describes the physics on N D4-branes with $N_f$ D8-branes on top of a single O8 orientifold plane in Type I' theory. This theory is known to be superconformal at the strong coupling limit with the enhanced global symmetry $E_{N_f+1}$ for $N_f\le 7$. In this work we calculate the superconformal index on $S^1\times S^4$ for the Sp(1) gauge theory by the localization method and confirm such enhancement of the global symmetry at the superconformal limit for $N_f\le 5$ to a few leadi…
We explore N=(1,0) superconformal six-dimensional theories arising from M5-branes probing a transverse A_k singularity. Upon circle compactification to 5 dimensions, we describe this system with a dual pq-web of five-branes and propose the spectrum of basic five-dimensional instanton operators driving global symmetry enhancement. For a single M5-brane, we find that the exact partition function of the 5d quiver gauge theory matches the 6d (1,0) index, which we compute by letter counting. We finally show that S-duality of the pq-web implies new relations among vertex correlators of qW-algebrae.
A dual formulation of the S Matrix for N=4 SYM has recently been presented, where all leading singularities of n-particle N^{k-2}MHV amplitudes are given as an integral over the Grassmannian G(k,n), with cyclic symmetry, parity and superconformal invariance manifest. In this short note we show that the dual superconformal invariance of this object is also manifest. The geometry naturally suggests a partial integration and simple change of variable to an integral over G(k-2,n). This change of variable precisely corresponds to the mapping between usual momentum variables and the "momentum twisto…
We present a formulation of the coupling of vector multiplets to N=2 supergravity which is symplectic covariant (and thus is not based on a prepotential) and uses superconformal tensor calculus. We do not start from an action, but from the combination of the generalised Bianchi identities of the vector multiplets in superspace, a symplectic definition of special Kahler geometry, and the supersymmetric partners of the corresponding constraints. These involve the breaking to super-Poincare symmetry, and lead to on-shell vector multiplets. This symplectic approach gives the framework to formulate…
