Ultralight primordial black holes (PBHs)($\lesssim10^9$g) completely evaporate via Hawking radiation (HR) and produce all the particles in a given theory regardless of their other interactions. If the right handed (RH) neutrinos are produced from PBH evaporation, successful baryogenesis via leptogenesis predicts mass scale of RH neutrinos as well as black holes. We show that, given the lepton number violation (generation of RH neutrino masses) in the theory is a consequence of a gauged $U(1)$ breaking which is then followed by the formation of PBHs, a network of cosmic strings naturally gives rise to strong stochastic gravitational wave (GW) signal at the sensitivity level of pulsar timing arrays (PTA) and LIGO5. Besides, due to a transient period of black hole domination in the early universe, for which baryon asymmetry is independent of initial PBH density, a break in the GW spectra occurs around MHz frequency. Therefore, to observe the break along with the usual GW signal by the emission of gravitons via HR, GW detectors at higher frequencies are called for. The recent finding by the NANOGrav PTA of a stochastic common spectrum process (interpreted as GWs) across many pulsars is in tension with PBH baryogenesis for large cosmic string loops ($α\simeq 0.1$).
We reconsider entropy arguments which have been previously argued to support the idea that the dark matter constituents are primordial black holes with many solar masses. It has recently been shown that QCD axions which solve the strong CP problem may have masses $m_a$ in the extended range $10^{-3}eV > m_a > 10^{-33} eV$. Ultralight axions provide so many degrees of freedom that their entropy can exceed that of primordial black holes. This suggests that ultralight axions are more suited than primordial black holes to be constituents of dark matter.
Hawking evaporation of primordial black holes (PBHs) can facilitate the generation of matter-antimatter asymmetry. We focus on ultra-low mass PBHs that briefly dominate the universe and evaporate before the big bang nucleosynthesis. We propose a novel test of this scenario by detecting its characteristic doubly peaked gravitational wave (GW) spectrum in future GW observatories. Here the first order adiabatic perturbation from inflation and from the isocurvature perturbations due to PBH distribution, source tensor perturbations in second-order and lead to two peaks in the induced GW background.…
A successful baryogenesis mechanism is proposed in the cosmological framework of Brans-Dicke modified gravity. Primordial black holes with small mass are produced at the end of the Brans-Dicke field domination era. The Hawking radiation reheats a spherical region around every black hole to a high temperature and the electroweak symmetry is restored there. A domain wall is formed separating the region with the symmetric vacuum from the asymmetric region where electroweak baryogenesis takes place. First order phase transition is not needed. In Brans-Dicke cosmologies black hole accretion can be …
In this contribution we will shortly review the main mechanism through which primordial magnetic fields may affect the electroweak baryogenesis. It is shown that although strong magnetic fields might enhance the strength of the electroweak phase transition, no benefit is found for baryogenesis once the effect of the field on the sphaleron rate is taken into account. The possible role of hypermagnetic helicity for the electroweak baryogenesis is shortly discussed.
Gravitational waves (GWs) in the MHz - GHz frequency range are motivated by a host of early Universe phenomena such as oscillons, preheating, and cosmic strings. We point out that baryogenesis too serves as a motivation to probe GWs in this frequency range. The connection is through primordial black holes (PBHs): on the one hand, PBHs induce baryogenesis by Hawking evaporating into a species that has baryon number and $CP$ violating decays; on the other, PBHs induce GWs through second order effects when the scalar fluctuations responsible for their formation re-enter the horizon. We describe t…
The baryon asymmetry of the Universe should have been produced after the inflation era. We consider the possibility that the asymmetry is generated by the flavor oscillations in the reheating process after inflation, so that the baryon asymmetry is realized already at the beginning of the radiation dominated era. In the seesaw model, we show that the propagators of the left-handed leptons generically have flavor mixings in the thermal background, that can generate flavor-dependent lepton asymmetry through the $CP$ violation in the oscillation phenomena. The flavor dependent rates for the wash-…
In models of baryogenesis based on Grand Unified Theories (GUTs), the baryon asymmetry of the universe is generated through the CP and baryon number violating, out-of-equilibrium decays of very massive gauge or Higgs bosons in the very early universe. Recent constraints on the scale of inflation and the subsequent temperature of reheating, however, have put pressure on many such models. In this paper, we consider the role that primordial black holes may have played in the process of GUT baryogenesis. Through Hawking evaporation, black holes can efficiently generate GUT Higgs or gauge bosons, r…
Gravitation violates baryon number $B$: A star has a huge amount of it, while a black hole forming from the star has none. Consider primordial black holes before the hadronic annihiliation in the early universe, encountering and absorbing baryons and antibaryons: Each such absorption changes $B$ of the universe by one unit, up or down. But the absorption events are $uncorrelated$ $and$ $random$, hence they amount to a random walk in $B$-space, leading to the expectation of a net $|B|$ at the end. While the scale of this effect is most uncertain, it must exist. We explore some ramifications, in…

Primordial nucleosynthesis calculations are shown to be able to provide constraints on electroweak baryogenesis which produce a highly inhomogeneous distribution of the baryon-to-photon ratio. Such baryogenesis scenarios overproduce 4He and/or 7Li and can be ruled out whenever a fraction f<3*10e-6(100 GeV/T)^3 of nucleated bubbles of broken-symmetry phase contributes > 10% of the baryon number within the horizon volume.
We examine the generation of baryon asymmetry at the weak scale from a primordial lepton asymmetry. If the electroweak phase transition is first order, partial reflection of tau leptons off the bubble walls and the resulting hypercharge transport into the symmetric phase, gives rise to a baryon number consistent with observation.
The formation of ultra rare supermassive black holes (SMBHs), with masses of $\mathcal O(10^9\,M_\odot)$, in the first billion years of the Universe remains an open question in astrophysics. At the same time, ultralight dark matter (DM) with mass in the vicinity of $\mathcal O(10^{-20}~\text{eV})$ has been motivated by small scale DM distributions. Though this type of DM is constrained by various astrophysical considerations, certain observations could be pointing to modest evidence for it. We present a model with a confining first order phase transition at $\sim 10$ keV temperatures, facilita…
Recently many studies have considered the possibility of a Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV), and explored its consequences in a wide range of experiments. If this is true, a LIV could explains some mysteries in Cosmology. In this paper specifically, we will analyze the effects on The Primordial Baryogenesis because it is one of the more important and mysterious phenomena of the Big-Bang, that happened at very high energies, so we have a real chance to obtain an important effect. We will see that this effect could exist, depending directly on the temperature, that is very high at this time in…
The spectrum of energy density fluctuations, baryon asymmetry, and coherent large-scale magnetic fields are the three observables that provide crucial information on physics at very high energies. Inflation can only provide a mechanism to explain the density perturbations, and the origin of primordial magnetic fields and baryon asymmetry require physics beyond the standard models of cosmology and particle physics. In this work, we show that the mechanism that leads to primordial helical fields also leads to baryogenesis at the beginning of the radiation-dominated epoch. The model we consider h…
In this comment to the Nature paper of Bevan et al I point out that their interpretation of experimental data is based on a double counting of the `chiral anomaly' due to a vortex motion: using the calculation far away from the vortex core (Berry phase) to cancel the equivalent calculation at the core (spectral flow). The relaxation time approximation in force or momentum balance equation involved in their theory is also wrong, which has been rigorous proved in transport theory since 60's. Hence their affirmative conclusion is premature.
An introduction to particle aspects of cosmology with particular refrence to primordial nucleosynthesis, dark matter and baryogenesis is provided. In particular, various scenarios-GUT baryogenesis, electroweak baryogenesis and baryogenesis through leptogenesis are reviewed.
We consider the possibility that some primordial fields decay purely into the dark sector creating asymmetric dark matter. This asymmetry is subsequently transmuted into leptons and baryons. Within this paradigm we compute the amount of asymmetric dark matter created from the out of equilibrium decays of the primordial fields with CP violating Yukawa couplings. The dark matter asymmetry is then transferred to the visible sector by the asymmetry transfer equation and generates an excess of $B-L$. Baryogenesis occurs via sphaleron processes which conserve $B-L$ but violate $B+L$. A mechanism for…
During inflation primordial quantum fluctuations of the spacetime metric become classical and there is a spontaneous CPT violation by the spin connection coupling terms of the metric with fermions. The energy levels of the left and the right chirality neutrinos is split which gives rise to a net lepton asymmetry at equilibrium. A net baryon asymmetry of the same magnitude can be generated from this lepton asymmetry either by a GUT, $B-L$ symmetry or by electroweak sphaleron processes which preserve $B+L$ symmetry. If the amplitude of the primordial tensor perturbations is of the order of $10^{…
We examine the extent to which primordial black holes (PBHs) can constitute the observed dark matter while also giving rise to the measured matter-antimatter asymmetry and account for the observed baryon abundance through asymmetric Hawking radiation generated by a derivative coupling of curvature to the baryon-lepton current. We consider both broad and monochromatic mass spectra for this purpose. For the monochromatic spectrum we find that the correct dark matter and baryon energy densities are recovered for peak masses of the spectrum of $M_{\rm pk} \geq 10^{12}$ kg whereas for the broad cas…
This talk is based on work performed with Graham Ross and is a very concise summary of our soon to be published paper. Here we present a revision of the analysis of sphaleron baryon-number violating processes in the standard model including lepton-mass effects. We find the surprising result that a GUT-scale matter-asymmetry can survive the $B$ and $L$ violating sphaleron interactions even though ($B- L$) is conserved and equals zero for all temperatures. We extend the analysis to cover the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). As a new result we present the MSSM analysis below the temp…
In this paper we investigate the primordial nucleosynthesis in $\mathscr{L}=\varepsilon^{2-2β}R^β+{16π}m_P^{-2}\mathscr{L}_m$ gravity, where $\varepsilon$ is a constant balancing the dimension of the field equation, and $1<β<(4+\sqrt{6})/5$ for the positivity of energy density and temperature. From the semianalytical approach, the influences of $β$ to the decoupling of neutrinos, the freeze-out temperature and concentration of nucleons, the opening of deuterium bottleneck, and the $^4$He abundance are all extensively analyzed; then $β$ is constrained to $1<β<1.05$ for $\varepsilon=1$ [1/s] and…
We study the supermassive black holes (SMBHs) observed in the galactic centers. Although the origin of SMBHs has not been well understood yet, previous studies suggest that seed black holes (BHs) with masses $10^{4-5}M_\odot$ exist at a high redshift ($z \sim 10$). We examine whether primordial black holes (PBHs) produced by inhomogeneous baryogenesis can explain those seed black holes. The inhomogeneous baryogenesis is realized in the modified Affleck-Dine mechanism. In this scenario, there is no stringent constraint from CMB $μ$-distortion in contrast to the scenario where Gaussian fluctuati…
We find that the Hawking radiation of black holes can create the baryon number in the Higgs phase vacuum of the extended standard model with 2-Higgs doublets. We propose new scenarios of baryogenesis based on the black holes, and one of our scenarios can explain the origin of baryon number in our universe, if most of the matter existed as primordial black holes.

If primordial black holes (PBHs) contribute more than 10 percent of the dark matter (DM) density, their energy density today is of the same order as that of the baryons. Such a cosmic coincidence might hint at a mutual origin for the formation scenario of PBHs and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. Baryogenesis can be triggered by a sharp transition of the rolling rate of inflaton from slow-roll to (nearly) ultraslow-roll phases that produces large curvature perturbations for PBH formation in single-field inflationary models. We show that the baryogenesis requirement drives the PBH contribu…
Recently Dolgov and Pozdnyakov proposed a new baryogenesis mechanism in which baryon asymmetry is produced without violating baryon number at the Lagrangian level. In this scenario, baryon asymmetry is generated by absorption of a new particle X carrying baryon number onto Primordial Black Holes (PBHs). Assuming CP-violation, the particle X is absorbed at a different rate than the antiparticle $\bar{X}$, producing an asymmetry in the baryonic number. We independently test this scenario, finding that it suffers from two fundamental issues.\\ At the phenomenological level, strong absorption by P…
A decade ago, the first leptogenesis model based on inflation was proposed, where the complex phase of the inflaton field carries lepton number. If the inflaton field is an axion, it can couple to gravitational waves and gauge fields via. Chern-Simons invariants. Due to these couplings, birefringent gravitational and gauge primordial perturbations are created during inflation to generate a lepton asymmetry, establishing a possible connection between non-vanishing TB-parity violating polarization cross-correlations and leptogenesis. We also discuss the prospect for a subset of these models can …
The cosmic evolution of a dark matter model which behaves relativistically in the early Universe is explored. Dark matter is described as a complex scalar field, whose earliest evolution is characterized by a stiff equation of state ($p \simeq ρ$). In this phase, it is the dominant component in the Universe. We present constraints from Big Bang nucleosynthesis and primordial gravity waves from inflation. Also, we study how the associated enhanced expansion rate due to the stiff phase might facilitate a first-order electroweak symmetry breaking phase transition, in light of the recently measure…
The International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) satellite has yielded unprecedented measurements of the soft gamma-ray spectrum of our Galaxy. Here we use those measurements to set constraints on dark matter (DM) that decays or annihilates into photons with energies $E\approx 0.02-2$ MeV. First, we revisit the constraints on particle DM that decays or annihilates to photon pairs. In particular, for decaying DM, we find that previous limits were overstated by roughly an order of magnitude. Our new, conservative analysis finds that the DM lifetime must satisfy $τ\gtrsim 5\times 10…
A novel mechanism of cosmological baryogenesis through baryon capture by primordial black holes is suggested. In contrast to the conventional scenarios it does not demand non-conservation of baryonic number in particle physics and can proceed in thermal equilibrium. For implementation of this mechanism a heavy superweakly interacting particle a with non-zero baryon number is necessary.
We propose a robust, unified framework, in which the similar baryon and dark matter cosmic abundances both arise from the physics of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), with the rough quantitative success of the so-called "WIMP miracle". In particular the baryon asymmetry arises from the decay of a meta-stable WIMP after its thermal freezeout at or below the weak scale. A minimal model and its embedding in R-parity violating (RPV) SUSY are studied as examples. The new mechanism saves RPV SUSY from the potential crisis of washing out primordial baryon asymmetry. Phenomenological impli…
If the present baryon-asymmetry is due to a Planck or GUT-scale matter asymmetry then baryon- or lepton-number violating processes are constrained by the condition that they do not subsequently erase this asymmetry. We present a revision of the analysis of sphaleron baryon-number violating processes in the standard model including lepton-mass effects. We find the surprising result that a GUT-scale matter-asymmetry can survive the $B$ and $L$ violating sphaleron interactions even though ($B- L$) is conserved and equals zero for all temperatures. We extend the analysis to cover the minimal super…
The lepton number violating interactions generated by the light Majorana neutrinos can erase the primordial baryon asymmetry of the universe during the electroweak phase transition. The Majorana masses of the left-handed neutrinos are constrained to avoid this problem. These constraints do not depend on the $(B-L)$ symmetry breaking mechanism.
We explore the interplay between light primordial black holes (PBH) and high-scale baryogenesis, with a particular emphasis on leptogenesis. We first review a generic baryogenesis scenario where a heavy particle, $X$, with mass, $M_X$, produced solely from PBH evaporation decays to generate a baryon asymmetry. We show that the viable parameter space is bounded from above by $M_X \lesssim 10^{17}$ GeV and increases with decreasing $M_X$. We demonstrate that regions of the leptogenesis parameter space where the lightest right-handed neutrino (RHN) mass $M_{N_{1}}\gtrsim 10^{15}\,{\rm GeV}$ and n…
In Affleck-Dine baryogenesis, the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe is generated through the evolution of the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a scalar condensate. This scalar condensate generically fragments into non-topological solitons (Q-balls). If they are sufficiently long-lived, they lead to an early matter domination epoch, which enhances the primordial gravitational wave signal for modes that enter the horizon during this epoch. The sudden decay of the Q-balls into fermions results in a rapid transition from matter to radiation domination, producing a sharp peak in the gravit…
A primordial spectrum of gravitational waves serves as a backlight to the relativistic degrees of freedom of the cosmological fluid. Any change in the particle physics content, due to a change of phase or freeze-out of a species, will leave a characteristic imprint on an otherwise featureless primordial spectrum of gravitational waves and indicate its early-Universe provenance. We show that a gravitational wave detector such as the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna would be sensitive to physics near 100 TeV in the presence of a sufficiently strong primordial spectrum. Such a detection could c…
The evaporation of primordial black holes with a mass in the $1\ {\rm gram}\lesssim M_{\rm PBH}\lesssim$1000 kg range can lead to the production of dark matter particles of almost any mass in the range $0.1\ {\rm MeV}\lesssim m_{\rm DM}\lesssim 10^{18}$ GeV with the right relic density at very early times, $τ\lesssim 10^{-10}$ s. We calculate, as a function of the primordial black holes mass and initial abundance, the combination of dark matter particle masses and number of effective dark degrees of freedom leading to the right abundance of dark matter today, whether or not evaporation stops a…
We report on some phenomenological implications of a class of unified models based on SO(10) gauge group, with intermediate symmetry group containing SU(2)_R. Interesting predictions for neutrino masses are discussed, which are relevant both for solar neutrino and dark matter problems, as well as a model for the formation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe required by primordial nucleosynthesis.
We survey the prospective sensitivities of terrestrial and space-borne atom interferometers (AIs) to gravitational waves (GWs) generated by cosmological and astrophysical sources, and to ultralight dark matter. We discuss the backgrounds from gravitational gradient noise (GGN) in terrestrial detectors, and also binary pulsar and asteroid backgrounds in space-borne detectors. We compare the sensitivities of LIGO and LISA with those of the 100m and 1km stages of the AION terrestrial AI project, as well as two options for the proposed AEDGE AI space mission with cold atom clouds either inside or …
Primordial black hole (PBH) is a fascinating candidate for the origin of binary merger events observed by LIGO-Virgo collaboration. The spatial distribution of PBHs at formation is an important feature to estimate the merger rate. We investigate the clustering of PBHs formed by Affleck-Dine (AD) baryogenesis, where dense baryon bubbles collapse to form PBHs. We found that formed PBHs show a strong clustering due to the stochastic dynamics of the AD field. Including the clustering, we evaluate the merger rate and isocurvature perturbations of PBHs, which show significant deviations from those w…
We investigate the influence of primordial perturbations of the energy density and space--time metric on the generation of the lepton and baryon asymmetries. In the weak and strong washout regimes baryon isocurvature perturbations with amplitudes of the same order as those of the CMB perturbations are generated on scales of order of the respective Hubble scale. They are, however, completely washed out by baryon and photon diffusion at the later stages of the universe's evolution.
