Primordial black holes have been considered as an attractive dark matter candidate, whereas some of the predictions heavily rely on the near-horizon physics that remains to be tested experimentally. As a concrete alternative, thermal 2-2-holes closely resemble black holes without event horizons. Being a probable endpoint of gravitational collapse, they not only provide a resolution to the information loss problem, but also naturally give rise to stable remnants. Previously, we have considered primordial 2-2-hole remnants as dark matter. Due to the strong constraints from a novel phenomenon associated with remnant mergers, only small remnants with close to the Planck mass can constitute all of dark matter. In this paper, we examine the scenario that the majority of dark matter consists of particles produced by the evaporation of primordial 2-2-holes, whereas the remnant contribution is secondary. The products with light enough mass may contribute to the number of relativistic degrees of freedom in the early universe, which we also calculate. Moreover, 2-2-hole evaporation can produce particles that are responsible for the baryon asymmetry. We find that baryogenesis through direct B-violating decays or through leptogenesis can both be realized. Overall, the viable parameter space for the Planck remnant case is similar to primordial black holes with Planck remnants. Heavier remnants, on the other hand, lead to different predictions, and the viable parameter space remains large even when the remnant abundance is small.
We introduce a novel mechanism for baryogenesis, in which mixed anomalies between the hidden sector and $U(1)_{baryon}$ drive the baryon asymmetry. We demonstrate that this mechanism occurs quite naturally in intersecting-brane constructions of the Standard Model, and show that it solves some of the theoretical difficulties faced in matching baryogenesis to experimental bounds. We illustrate with a specific example model. We also discuss the possible signals at the LHC.
We propose a novel mechanism to generate a suitable baryon asymmetry from dark (hidden) sector. This is a Baryogenesis through a reverse pathway of the "asymmetric dark matter" scenario. In the mechanism, the asymmetry of dark matter is generated at first, and it is partially transferred into a baryon asymmetry in the standard model sector. This mechanism enables us not only to realize the generation of the baryon asymmetry but also to account for the correct amount of dark matter density in the present universe within a simple framework.
Adding an extra singlet scalar $S$ to the Higgs sector can provide a barrier at tree level between a false vacuum with restored electroweak symmetry and the true one. This has been demonstrated to readily give a strong phase transition as required for electroweak baryogenesis. We show that with the addition of a fermionic dark matter particle $χ$ coupling to $S$, a simple UV-complete model can realize successful electroweak baryogenesis. The dark matter gets a CP asymmetry that is transferred to the standard model through a $CP\ portal\ interaction$, which we take to be a coupling of $χ$ to $τ…
The implications on neutrino physics and on the dynamical generation of the baryonic asymmetry of a class of $SO(10)$ non-supersymmetric models are discussed.
We study a model with an exotic new sector strongly coupled to the Higgs boson, in which supersymmetry is introduced to protect the quartic coupling from a large running and avoid potential vacuum stability problem. The fermionic components present vector like mass terms, through which the Higgs diphoton decay branching ratio can be tuned. The bosonic components trigger a strongly first order electroweak phase transition. We find a large parameter region of effective Yukawa coupling $y\gtrsim2$ and mass parameters $m_f\sim m_s$ of a few hundred GeV, that can simultaneously accommodate the diph…
We consider the production of asymmetric dark matter during hidden sector baryogenesis. We consider a particular supersymmetric model where the dark matter candidate has a number density approximately equal to the baryon number density, with a mass of the same scale as the $b$, $c$ and $τ$. Both baryon asymmetry and dark matter are created at the same time in this model. We describe collider and direct detection signatures of this model.
Hawking evaporation of primordial black holes (PBHs) can facilitate the generation of matter-antimatter asymmetry. We focus on ultra-low mass PBHs that briefly dominate the universe and evaporate before the big bang nucleosynthesis. We propose a novel test of this scenario by detecting its characteristic doubly peaked gravitational wave (GW) spectrum in future GW observatories. Here the first order adiabatic perturbation from inflation and from the isocurvature perturbations due to PBH distribution, source tensor perturbations in second-order and lead to two peaks in the induced GW background.…
We consider the possibility that some primordial fields decay purely into the dark sector creating asymmetric dark matter. This asymmetry is subsequently transmuted into leptons and baryons. Within this paradigm we compute the amount of asymmetric dark matter created from the out of equilibrium decays of the primordial fields with CP violating Yukawa couplings. The dark matter asymmetry is then transferred to the visible sector by the asymmetry transfer equation and generates an excess of $B-L$. Baryogenesis occurs via sphaleron processes which conserve $B-L$ but violate $B+L$. A mechanism for…
We investigate the viability of Affleck-Dine baryogenesis in D=4, N=1 supergravity descending from string theory. The process relies on an initial condition where visible sector supersymmetric flat directions obtain tachyonic masses during inflation. We discuss this condition for a variety of cases where supersymmetry is broken during inflation by a geometric modulus or hidden sector scalar, and outline scenarios where the initial condition is satisfied.
We study baryogenesis via a gaugino portal, the supersymmetric counterpart to the widely studied kinetic mixing portal, to a hidden sector. CP and baryon number violating decays of a hidden sector gaugino into the visible sector can produce the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The tiny portal coupling is crucial in producing late out-of-equilibrium decays, after washout processes that can erase the asymmetry have gone out of equilibrium. We study this mechanism within various scenarios, including freeze-in or freeze-out of the hidden gaugino, as well as extended frameworks where the …
We explore viable scenarios for parametric resonant amplification of electroweak (EW) gauge fields and Chern-Simons number during preheating, leading to baryogenesis at the electroweak (EW) scale. In this class of scenarios time-dependent classical EW gauge fields, essentially spatially-homogeneous on the horizon scales, carry Chern-Simons number which can be amplified by parametric resonance up to magnitudes at which unsuppressed topological transitions in the Higgs sector become possible. Baryon number non-conservation associated with the gauge sector and the highly non-equilibrium nature of…
One-loop contributions to the Higgs potential at finite temperatures are discussed in the supersymmetric standard model with four Higgs doublet chiral superfields as well as a pair of charged singlet chiral superfields. The mass of the lightest Higgs boson $h$ is determined only by the D-term at the tree-level in this model, while the triple Higgs boson coupling for $hhh$ can receive a significant radiative correction. The same nondecoupling effect can also contribute to realize the sufficient first order electroweak phase transition, which is required for a successful scenario of electroweak …
We investigate the electroweak phase transition patterns for a recently proposed baryogenesis model with CP violation originated in the dark sector. The model includes a complex scalar singlet-Higgs boson portal, a $U(1)_l$ gauge lepton symmetry with a $Z^\prime$ gauge boson portal and a fermionic dark matter particle. We find a novel thermal history of the scalar sector, featuring a $Z_2$ breaking singlet vacuum in the early Universe driven by a dark Yukawa coupling, that induces a one-step strongly first order electroweak phase transition. We explore the parameter space that generates the ob…
We compute the baryon asymmetry generated at the electroweak phase transition by the Higgs scalar sector of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Because of large enhancement effects from low momentum modes, Higgs particles may be responsible for the observed baryon asymmetry even though CP-violation in the Higgs sector only appears at the one-loop level. We also discuss the approximations made in the analysis and suggest possible improvements.
We study in detail the conditions to generate the baryon asymmetry of the universe from the annihilation of dark matter. This scenario requires a low energy mechanism for thermal baryogenesis, hence we first discuss some of these mechanisms together with the specific constraints due to the connection with the dark matter sector. Then we show that, contrary to what stated in previous studies, it is possible to generate the cosmological asymmetry without adding a light sterile dark sector, both in models with violation and with conservation of B-L. In addition, one of the models we propose yield…
We consider a baryogenesis scenario, where the difference of baryon (B) and lepton (L) number is conserved in such a way that the B-L asymmetry in the standard model sector is compensated by an asymmetry of opposite sign stored in the dark energy sector. Therefore, we introduce a toy-model in which a complex quintessence field carries a B-L asymmetry at late times. We determine the produced baryon asymmetry in the visible sector for a large range of initial conditions and find it easy to achieve a value of the observed order of magnitude. While the size of the produced baryon asymmetry depends…
Low-scale baryogenesis and dark matter generation can occur via the production of neutral $B$ mesons at MeV temperatures in the early Universe, which undergo CP-violating oscillations and subsequently decay into a dark sector. In this work, we discuss the consequences of realizing this mechanism in a supersymmetric model with an unbroken $U(1)_R$ symmetry which is identified with baryon number. $B$ mesons decay into a dark sector through a baryon number conserving operator mediated by TeV scale squarks and a GeV scale Dirac bino. The dark sector particles can be identified with sterile neutrin…
Electroweak baryogenesis depends on the profile of the bubble wall created in the first-order phase transition. It is pointed out that CP violation in the Higgs sector of the MSSM could become large enough to explain the baryon asymmetry. We confirm this by solving the equations of motion for the Higgs fields with the effective potential at the transition temperature. That is, we present an example such that the transitional CP violation is realized and show the possibility that the baryon asymmetry of the universe may be produced, if marginally, by the $τ$ lepton interacting with the wall, wh…
Non-minimal supersymmetric models that predict a tree-level Higgs mass above the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) bound are well motivated by naturalness considerations. Indirect constraints on the stop sector parameters of such models are significantly relaxed compared to the MSSM; in particular, both stops can have weak-scale masses. We revisit the stop-catalyzed electroweak baryogenesis (EWB) scenario in this context. We find that the LHC measurements of the Higgs boson production and decay rates already rule out the possibility of stop-catalyzed EWB. We also introduce a gauge-i…
We study the experimental constraints on dark sector CP violation that enters the visible sector through a Higgs portal coupling $H^{\dagger} H Z^{\prime}_{μν} \widetilde Z^{\prime μν}$, where the $Z^{\prime}$ is from a new U(1) gauge symmetry which is assumed to couple to lepton number. We compute explicitly the leading two-loop contribution of this effective operator to the electron electric dipole moment (EDM) and show that the resulting constraints are comparable to those from direct $Z^{\prime}$ searches at electron-positron colliders when the effective operator is generated at tree level…
We consider a hidden-valley gauge sector, G, with strong coupling scale Lambda~TeV and CP-violating topological parameter, theta, as well as a new axion degree of freedom which adjusts theta to near zero in the current universe. If the G-sector couples to the Standard Model via weak-scale states charged under both, then in the early universe it is possible for the CP-violation due to theta (which has not yet been adjusted to zero by the hidden axion) to feed in to the SM and drive efficient baryogenesis during the electroweak (EW) phase transition, independent of the effectively small amount o…
We study electroweak baryogenesis in the $SO(6)/SO(5)$ composite Higgs model with the third generation quarks being embedded in the $\textbf{20}'$ representation of $SO(6)$. The scalar sector contains one Higgs doublet and one real singlet, and their potential is given by the Coleman-Weinberg potential evaluated from the form factors of the lightest vector and fermion resonances. We show that the resonance masses at $\mathcal{O}(1\sim 10{\rm ~TeV})$ can generate a potential that triggers the strong first-order electroweak phase transition (SFOEWPT). The $CP$ violating phase arising from the di…
We propose a theory in which the Standard Model gauge symmetry is extended by a new $SU(2)_\ell$ group acting nontrivially on the lepton sector which is spontaneously broken at the TeV scale. Under this $SU(2)_\ell$ the ordinary leptons form doublets along with new lepton partner fields. This construction naturally contains a dark matter candidate, the partner of the right-handed neutrino, stabilized by a residual global $U(1)_χ$ symmetry. We show that one can explain baryogenesis through an asymmetric dark matter scenario, in which generation of related asymmetries in the dark matter and bary…
We construct an anomaly free supersymmetric U(1)' model with a secluded U(1)'-breaking sector. We study the one-loop effective potential at finite temperature, and show that there exists a strong enough first order electroweak phase transition for electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) because of the large trilinear term $A_h h S H_d H_u$ in the tree-level Higgs potential. Unlike in the MSSM, the lightest stop can be very heavy. We consider the non-local EWBG mechanism in the thin wall regime, and find that within uncertainties the observed baryon number can be generated from the $τ$ lepton contribut…
We propose an extension of the standard model (SM) by including a dark sector comprising of three generations of heavy right-handed neutrinos, a singlet scalar and a singlet Dirac fermion, where the latter two particles are stable and are viable candidates of dark matter (DM). In the early Universe, the CP-violating out-of-equilibrium decay of heavy right-handed neutrinos to singlet Dirac fermion and scalar in the dark sector generates a net DM asymmetry. The latter is then transported to the visible sector via a dimension eight operator which conserves $B-L$ symmetry and is in thermal equilib…
We show that vector-like fermions can act as the dark matter candidate in the universe whilst also playing a crucial role in electroweak baryogenesis through contributing to the barrier in the one-loop thermal scalar potential. In order for the new fermions to give rise to a strong first order phase transition, we show that one requires rather large Yukawa couplings in the new sector, which are strongly constrained by electroweak precision tests and perturbativity. Strong couplings between the dark matter candidate and the Higgs boson intuitively lead to small values of the relic density and p…
It is quite possible that the reheat temperature of the universe is extremely low close to the scale of Big Bang nucleosynthesis, i.e. $T_{R}\sim 1-10$ MeV. At such low reheat temperatures generating matter anti-matter asymmetry and synthesizing dark matter particles are challenging issues which need to be addressed within a framework of beyond the Standard Model physics. In this paper we point out that a successful cosmology can emerge naturally provided the R-parity violating interactions are responsible for the excess in baryons over anti-baryons and at the same time they can explain the lo…
We show that an axionlike particle (ALP) naturally implements spontaneous electroweak baryogenesis through a cosmic evolution strongly tied to the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) if it feebly couples to the Higgs field while giving a small contribution to the Higgs boson mass. The observed baryon asymmetry can be generated successfully if the ALP couples strongly enough to the electroweak anomaly. Also interesting is that the ALP contributes to dark matter, and its coupling to a hidden gauge sector makes the relic abundance insensitive to the cosmic history before the EWPT. The ALP explain…
Models of asymmetric dark matter (ADM) seek to explain the apparent coincidence between the present-day mass densities of visible and dark matter, $Ω_{\mathrm{DM}} \simeq 5Ω_{\mathrm{VM}}$. However, most ADM models only relate the number densities of visible and dark matter without motivating the similar particle masses. We expand upon a recent work that obtained a natural mass relationship in a mirror matter ADM model with two Higgs doublets in each sector, by looking to implement dark electroweak baryogenesis as the means of asymmetry generation. We explore two aspects of the mechanism: the …
Many particle physics models attempt to explain the 130 GeV gamma-ray feature that the Fermi-LAT observes in the Galactic Center. Neutralino dark matter in non-minimal supersymmetric models, such as the NMSSM, is an especially well-motivated theoretical setup which can explain the line. We explore the possibility that regions of the NMSSM consistent with the 130 GeV line can also produce the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe via electroweak baryogenesis. We find that such regions can in fact accommodate a strongly first-order electroweak phase transition (due to the singlet contributio…
We have developed a concept of parallel existence of the ordinary (O) and hidden (H) worlds with a superstring-inspired E_6 unification, broken at the early stage of the Universe into SO(10) X U(1) - in the O-world, and SU(6)' X SU(2)' - in the H-world. As a result, we have obtained in the hidden world the low energy symmetry group G'_SM X SU(2)'_θ, instead of the Standard Model group G_SM. The additional non-Abelian SU(2)'_θgroup with massless gauge fields, "thetons", is responsible for the dark energy. We present a baryogenesis mechanism with the B-L asymmetry produced by the conversion of o…
Conventional scenarios of electroweak (EW) baryogenesis are strongly constrained by experimental searches for CP violation beyond the SM. We propose an alternative scenario where the EW phase transition and baryogenesis occur at temperatures of the order of a new physics threshold $Λ$ far above the Fermi scale, say, in the $100-1000$ TeV range. This way the needed new sources of CP-violation, together with possible associated flavor-violating effects, decouple from low energy observables. The key ingredient is a new CP- and flavor-conserving sector at the Fermi scale that ensures the EW symmet…
We consider a chiral gauge theory from which light composite Dirac neutrinos dynamically emerge, augmented by a QCD axion to solve the strong CP problem. We show that an interplay between the composite sector and the axion can also simultaneously lead to successful baryogenesis and generate a correct dark matter abundance via "co-genesis" without contradicting present constraints. We predict $ΔN_{\rm eff} \geq 0.14$ and $m_a$ in the range $O(1)\>{\rm μeV}$--$O(10)\>{\rm meV}$, which can be firmly tested by upcoming CMB experiments and axion searches.
We study a model of neutrino and dark matter within the framework of a minimal extended seesaw. This framework is based on $A_4$ flavor symmetry along with the discrete $Z_4$ symmetry to stabilize the dark matter and construct desired mass matrices for neutrino mass. We use a non-trivial Dirac mass matrix with broken $μ- τ$ symmetry to generate the leptonic mixing. A non-degenerate mass structure for right-handed neutrinos is considered to verify the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe via the mechanism of thermal Leptogenesis. The scalar sector is also studied in great detail for a mult…
We present a novel mechanism of electroweak baryogenesis where \textit{CP} violation occurs in a dark sector, comprised of standard model gauge singlets, thereby evading the strong electric dipole moment constraints. In this framework, the background of time-like component of a new gauge boson $Z^\prime_μ$, generated at electroweak temperatures, drives the electroweak sphaleron processes to create the required baryon asymmetry. We first discuss the crucial ingredients for this mechanism to work, and then show that all of them can be elegantly embedded in ultraviolet completions with spontaneou…
There can exist a parallel `mirror' world which has the same particle physics as the observable world and couples the latter only gravitationally. The nucleosynthesis bounds demand that the mirror sector should have a smaller temperature than the ordinary one. By this reason its evolution should be substantially deviated from the standard cosmology as far as the crucial epochs like baryogenesis, nucleosynthesis etc. are concerned. Starting from an inflationary scenario which could explain the different initial temperatures of the two sectors, we study the time history of the early mirror unive…
We propose a simple model to explain neutrino mass, dark matter and baryogenesis based on the extended Higgs sector which appears in the low-energy effective theory of a supersymmetric gauge theory with confinement. We here consider the SU(2)$_H$ gauge symmetry with three flavours of fundamental representations which are charged under the standard SU(3)$_C\times$ SU(2)$_L\times$U(1)$_Y$ symmetry and a new discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. We also introduce $Z_2$-odd right-handed neutrino superfields in addition to the standard model matter superfields. The low-energy effective theory below the confinem…
We construct two anomaly-free supersymmetric $U(1)'$ models with a secluded $U(1)'$-breaking sector. For the one with $E_6$ embedding we show that there exists a strong enough first order electroweak phase transition for electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) because of the large soft trilinear terms in the Higgs potential. Unlike the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the stop masses can be very heavy. We then discuss possible CP violation in the Higgs sector, which can be both spontaneous and explicit, even at tree level. The spontaneous violation provides a direct source for baryogenesi…
We propose a new baryogenesis scenario based on coherent production and mixing of different fermionic species. The mechanism is operative during phase transitions, at which the fermions acquire masses via Yukawa couplings to scalar fields. Baryon production is efficient when the mass matrix is nonadiabatically varying, nonsymmetric and when it violates CP and B-L directly, or some other charges that are eventually converted to B-L. We first consider a toy model, which involves two mixing fermionic species, and then a hybrid inflationary scenario embedded in a supersymmetric Pati-Salam GUT. We …
We propose a framework where a phase transition associated with a gauge symmetry breaking that occurs (not far) above the electroweak scale sets a stage for baryogenesis similar to the electroweak baryogenesis in the Standard Model. A concrete realization utilizes the breaking of $SU(2)_R \times U(1)_X \rightarrow U(1)_Y$. New chiral fermions charged under the extended gauge symmetry have nonzero lepton numbers, which makes the $B-L$ symmetry anomalous. The new lepton sector contains a large flavor-dependent CP violation, similar to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase, without inducing sizable…

We explore the generation of the baryon asymmetry in an extension of the Standard Model where the lepton number is promoted to a $U(1)_\ell$ gauge symmetry with an associated $Z^\prime$ gauge boson. This is based on a novel electroweak baryogenesis mechanism first proposed by us in Ref. \cite{Carena:2018cjh}. Extra fermionic degrees of freedom - including a fermionic dark matter $χ$ - are introduced in the dark sector for anomaly cancellation. Lepton number is spontaneously broken at high scale and the effective theory, containing the Standard Model, the $Z^\prime$, the fermionic dark matter, …
We show that "accidental" supersymmetry is a beyond-the-Standard Model framework that naturally accommodates a thermal relic dark matter candidate and successful electroweak baryogenesis, including the needed strongly first-order character of the electroweak phase transition. We study the phenomenology of this setup from the standpoint of both dark matter and baryogenesis. For energies around the electroweak phase transition temperature, the low-energy effective theory is similar to the MSSM with light super-partners of the third-generation quarks and of the Higgs and gauge bosons. We calculat…
We present a new mechanism of Baryogenesis and dark matter production in which both the dark matter relic abundance and the baryon asymmetry arise from neutral $B$ meson oscillations and subsequent decays. This set-up is testable at hadron colliders and $B$-factories. In the early Universe, decays of a long lived particle produce $B$ mesons and anti-mesons out of thermal equilibrium. These mesons/anti-mesons then undergo CP violating oscillations before quickly decaying into visible and dark sector particles. Dark matter will be charged under Baryon number so that the visible sector baryon asy…
We propose a new mechanism to simultaneously explain the observed dark matter abundance and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The mechanism is based on the Filtered Dark Matter scenario, where dark matter particles acquire a large mass during a first-order phase transition. This implies that only a small fraction of them are energetic enough to enter the advancing true vacuum bubbles and survive until today, while the rest are reflected and annihilate away quickly. We supplement this scenario with a CP-violating interaction, which creates a chiral asymmetry in the population of dark matter…
A new concept of generation of the cosmological baryon excess along with the cold dark matter (CDM) in the Universe is proposed and corresponding scenarios are outlined. Possible realizations of the idea in the framework of supersymmetric models are considered and constraints (predictions) on masses of sparticles compatible with the viability of the scenario are derived. Mulitiple predictions might be extracted from the concept. In particular, we predict a quite natural existence of a charge asymmetric component of CDM. A $\sim 10^{-2}$ part of CDM might exist in the form of electrically charg…
In the context of Twin Higgs models, we study a simple mechanism that simultaneously generates asymmetries in the dark and visible sector through the out-of-equilibrium decay of a TeV scale particle charged under a combination of baryon and twin baryon number. We predict the dark matter to be a 5 GeV twin baryon, which is easy to achieve because of the similarity between the two confinement scales. Dark matter is metastable and can decay to three quarks, yielding indirect detection signatures. The mechanism requires the introduction of a new colored particle, typically within the reach of the …
We study a mechanism through which the cosmic dark matter density can be explained simultaneously with the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. At the core of our proposal lie the out-of-equilibrium scattering processes of bath particles which are responsible for the production of feebly-interacting dark matter. The same processes violate $CP$, which further leads to an asymmetry between matter and antimatter being generated in the visible sector. We focus on the possibility that these interactions are described through non-renormalizable operators, which leads to both dark matter and th…
We introduce an axion-inflation model embedded in the Left-Right symmetric extension of the SM in which $W_R$ is coupled to the axion. This model merges three milestones of modern cosmology, i.e., inflation, cold dark matter, and baryon asymmetry. Thus, it can naturally explain the observed coincidences among cosmological parameters, i.e., $η_{B}\approx P_ζ$ and $Ω_{DM} \simeq 5~Ω_{B}$. The source of asymmetry is spontaneous CP violation in the physics of inflation, and the lightest right-handed neutrino is the cold dark matter candidate with mass $m_{N_1}\sim 1~GeV$. The introduced mechanism …
