For a subalgebra of a generic CCR algebra, we consider the relative entropy between a general (not necessarily pure) quasifree state and a coherent excitation thereof. We give a unified formula for this entropy in terms of single-particle modular data. Further, we investigate changes of the relative entropy along subalgebras arising from an increasing family of symplectic subspaces; here convexity of the entropy (as usually considered for the Quantum Null Energy Condition) is replaced with lower estimates for the second derivative, composed of "bulk terms" and "boundary terms". Our main assumption is that the subspaces are in differential modular position, a regularity condition that generalizes the usual notion of half-sided modular inclusions. We illustrate our results in relevant examples, including thermal states for the conformal $U(1)$-current.
Geometric positions of square roots of coherent states of CCR algebras are investigated along with an explicit formula for transition amplitudes among them, which is a natural extension of our previous results on quasifree states and will provide a new insight into quasi-equivalence problems of quasifree states.
The features of the paper are these: 1) we discuss {\bf especially} quadratic (alias bilinear) Bose-Hamiltonians, the related Bogoliubov transformations and {\bf especially} quasi-free-like (alias coherent or Fock-like) states 2) we discuss {\bf any} quadratic Bose-Hamiltonians and Bogoliubov transformations, whether diagonalizable or not, whether proper or improper, and {\bf arbitrary} quasi-free-like states, whether regular or non-regular they are 3) we associate notions and terms of the CCRs theory {CCRs = Canonical Commutation Relations} with notions and terms of the indefinite inner produ…
The Wehrl entropy conjecture for coherent (highest weight) states in representations of the Heisenberg group, which was proved in 1978 and recently extended by us to the group $SU(2)$, is further extended here to symmetric representations of the groups $SU(N)$ for all $N$. This result gives further evidence for our conjecture that highest weight states minimize group integrals of certain concave functions for a large class of Lie groups and their representations.
We provide a rigorous, explicit formula for the vacuum relative entropy of a coherent state on wedge local von Neumann algebras associated with a free, neutral quantum field theory on the Minkowski spacetime of arbitrary spacetime dimension. We consider charges localised on the time zero hyperplane, possibly crossing the boundary.
Lieb's conjecture for the Wehrl entropy of Bloch coherent states is proved for spin 1 and spin 3/2. Using a geometric representation we solve the entropy integrals for states of arbitrary spin and evaluate them explicitly in the cases of spin 1, 3/2, and 2. We also give a group theoretic proof for all spin of a related inequality.
This paper consists in two parts. First we set up a general scheme of local traps in an homogeneous deterministic quantum system. The current of particles caught by the trap is linked to the dynamical behaviour of the trap states. In this way, transport properties in an homogeneous system are related to spectral properties of a coherent dynamics. Next we apply the scheme to a system of Fermions in the one-particle approximation. We obtain in particular lower bounds for the dynamical entropy in terms of the current induced by the trap.
Wehrl used Glauber coherent states to define a map from quantum density matrices to classical phase space densities and conjectured that for Glauber coherent states the mininimum classical entropy would occur for density matrices equal to projectors onto coherent states. This was proved by Lieb in 1978 who also extended the conjecture to Bloch SU(2) spin-coherent states for every angular momentum $J$. This conjecture is proved here. We also recall our 1991 extension of the Wehrl map to a quantum channel from $J$ to $K=J+1/2, J+1, ...$, with $K=\infty$ corresponding to the Wehrl map to classica…
We present a new derivation of the Onsager-Joyce-Montgomery (OJM) equilibrium statistical theory for point vortices on the plane, using the Bogoliubov-Feynman inequality for the free energy, Gibbs entropy function and Landau's approximation. This formulation links the heuristic OJM theory to the modern variational mean field theories. Landau's approximation is the physical counterpart of a large deviation result, which states that the maximum entropy state does not only have maximal probability measure but overwhelmingly large measure relative to other macrostates.
The operational characterization of quantum coherence is the corner stone in the development of resource theory of coherence. We introduce a new coherence quantifier based on max-relative entropy. We prove that max-relative entropy of coherence is directly related to the maximum overlap with maximally coherent states under a particular class of operations, which provides an operational interpretation of max-relative entropy of coherence. Moreover, we show that, for any coherent state, there are examples of subchannel discrimination problems such that this coherent state allows for a higher pro…
We discuss the Wehrl-type entropy inequality conjecture for the group $SU(1,1)$ and for its subgroup $AX+B$ (or affine group), their representations on $L^2({\mathbb R}_+)$, and their coherent states. For $AX+B$ the Wehrl-type conjecture for $L^p$-norms of these coherent states (also known as the Rényi entropies) is proved in the case that $p$ is an even integer. We also show how the general $AX+B$ case reduces to an unsolved problem about analytic functions on the upper half plane and the unit disc.
We derive a lower bound for the Wehrl entropy in the setting of SU(1,1). For asymptotically high values of the quantum number k, this bound coincides with the analogue of the Lieb-Wehrl conjecture for SU(1,1) coherent states. The bound on the entropy is proved via a sharp norm bound. The norm bound is deduced by using an interesting identity for Fisher information of SU(1,1) coherent state transforms and a new family of sharp Sobolev inequalities on the hyperbolic plane. To prove the sharpness of our Sobolev inequality, we need to first prove a uniqueness theorem for solutions of a semi-linear…
The Morse potential is relatively closed to the harmonic oscillator quantum system. Thus, following the idea used for the latter, we study the possibility of creating entanglement using squeezed coherent states of the Morse potential as an input field of a beam splitter. We measure the entanglement with the linear entropy for two types of such states and we study the dependence with the coherence and squeezing parameters. The new results are linked with observations made on probability densities and uncertainty relations of those states. The dynamical evolution of the linear entropy is also ex…
We give a general formula for the relative entropy between the vacuum state and a coherent state, that is a state obtained by applying an exponentiated stress energy tensor to the vacuum of a chiral conformal field theory on the lightray. As an application of this result, we verify the QNEC and the Bekenstein Bound.
We analyze mathematical and physical properties of a previously introduced [J. Phys. A47, 115302 (2014)] family of $U(4)$ coherent states (CS). They constitute a matrix version of standard spin $U(2)$ CS when we add an extra (pseudospin) dichotomous degree of freedom: layer, sublattice, two-well, nucleon, etc. Applications to bilayer quantum Hall systems at fractions of filling factor $ν=2$ are discussed, where Haldane's sphere picture is generalized to a Grassmannian picture. We also extend Wehrl's definition of entropy from Glauber to Grassmannian CS and state a conjecture on the entropy low…
We study quantum computation relations on unital finite-dimensional CAR $C^{*}$-algebras. We prove an entropy power inequality (EPI) in a fermionic setting, which presumably will permit understanding the capacities in fermionic linear optics. Similar relations to the bosonic case are shown, and alternative proofs of known facts are given. Clifford algebras and the Grassmann representation can thus be used to obtain mathematical results regarding coherent fermion states.
