This master thesis is based on the paper "Sharp commutator estimates via harmonic extensions" by Lenzmann and Schikorra, in which they proposed a method to prove estimates for commutators involving Riesz transforms, fractional Laplacians and Riesz potentials, see arXiv:1609.08547. These proofs only involve harmonic extensions to the upper half-space and integration by parts next to some elementary transfromations, since the deeper theory is concentrated in a variety of trace characterization results which can be used as a blackbox.
In the first half of this thesis, after collecting some elementary results for the s-harmonic extension by Caffarelli and Silvestre, we use this method to prove a variety of commutator estimates, closely following Lenzmann and Schikorra except for shortening some proofs.
In the second half, we prove generalized versions of the blackbox estimates listed by Lenzmann and Schikorra and discuss the different building blocks which make up these blackbox estimates, including Triebel-Lizorkin and Besov-Lipschitz space characterizations as well as square function estimates.
We give an alternative proof of several sharp commutator estimates involving Riesz transforms, Riesz potentials, and fractional Laplacians. Our methods only involve harmonic extensions to the upper half-space, integration by parts, and trace space characterizations. The commutators we investigate are Jacobians, more generally Coifman-Rochberg-Weiss commutators, Chanillo's commutator with the Riesz potential, Coifman-Meyer or Kato-Ponce-Vega type commutators, and the Da Lio-Rivière three-term commutators. We also give a new limiting $L^1$-estimate for a double commutator of Coifman-Rochberg-Wei…
We prove the existence of extremals for fractional Moser-Trudinger inequalities in an interval and on the whole real line. In both cases we use blow-up analysis for the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equation, which requires new sharp estimates obtained via commutator techniques.
In this manuscript, we provide a point-wise estimate for the $3$-commutators involving fractional powers of the sub-Laplacian on Carnot groups of homogeneous dimension $Q$. This can be seen as a fractional Leibniz rule in the sub-elliptic setting. As a corollary of the point-wise estimate, we provide an $(L^{p},L^{q})\to L^{r}$ estimate for the commutator, provided that $\frac{1}{r}=\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}-\fracα{Q}$.
We prove a nonlocal, nonlinear commutator estimate concerning the transfer of derivatives onto testfunctions. For the fractional $p$-Laplace operator it implies that solutions to certain degenerate nonlocal equations are higher differentiable. Also, weak fractional $p$-harmonic functions which a priori are less regular than variational solutions are in fact classical. As an application we show that sequences of uniformly bounded $\frac{n}{s}$-harmonic maps converge strongly outside at most finitely many points.
We prove boundedness results for integral operators of fractional type and their higher order commutators between weighted spaces, including $L^p$-$L^q$, $L^p$-$BMO$ and $L^p$-Lipschitz estimates. The kernels of such operators satisfy certain size condition and a Lipschitz type regularity, and the symbol of the commutator belongs to a Lipschitz class. We also deal with commutators of fractional type operators with less regular kernels satisfying a Hörmander's type inequality. As far as we know, these last results are new even in the unweighted case. Moreover, we give a characterization result …
We obtain Musielak Orlicz bumps conditions on a pair of weights for the boundedness of Calderón Zygmund operators and their commutators between variable Lebesgue spaces with different weights. The symbols of the commutators belong to a wider class of functions. We also give Bloom type estimates for commutators of Calderón Zygmund and fractional integral operators in the variable Lebesgue context. The techniques involved in both type of results are related with the theory of sparse domination.
We prove the regularity of weak 1/2-harmonic maps from the real line into a sphere. The key point in our result is first a formulation of the 1/2-harmonic map equation in the form of a non-local linear Schrödinger type equation with a 3-terms commutators in the right-hand-side . We then establish a sharp estimate for these 3-commutators.
The aim of this paper is to get the boundedness of certain multi-sublinear operators generated by multilinear fractional integral operators on the product generalized local Morrey spaces under generic size conditions which are satisfied by most of the operators in harmonic analysis. We also prove that the commutators of multilinear operators generated by local campanato functions and multilinear fractional integral operators are also bounded on the product generalized local Morrey spaces.
Recently, Lenzmann and the author observed how to obtain a large class of sharp commutator estimates by a combination of an integration by parts, an harmonic extension, and trace space estimates. In this survey we review this approach in three concrete examples: the Jacobian estimate by Coifman-Lions-Meyer-Semmes, the Coifman-Rochberg-Weiss commutator estimate for Riesz transforms, and a Kato-Ponce-Vega-type inequality.
In this paper, the sharp maximal theorem is generalized to mixed-norm ball Banach function spaces, which is defined as Definition 2.7. As an application, we give a characterization of BMO via the boundedness of commutators of fractional integral operators on mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces. Moreover, the characterization of homogeneous Lipschitz space is also given by the boundedness of commutators of fractional integral operators on mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces. Finally, two applications of Corollary 6.4 are given.
In this paper, we consider the norm inequalities for sublinear operators with rough kernel generated by fractional integrals and commutators on generalized local Morrey spaces and on generalized vanishing local Morrey spaces including their weak versions under generic size conditions which are satisfied by most of the operators in harmonic analysis, respectively. As an example to the conditions of these theorems are satisfied, we can consider the Marcinkiewicz operator.
In this paper, applying some properties of variable exponent analysis, we first dwell on Adams and Spanne type estimates for a class of fractional type integral operators of variable orders, respectively and then, obtain variable exponent generalized Campanato estimates for the corresponding commutators on the vanishing generalized Morrey spaces $VL_{Π}^{p\left( \cdot \right) ,w\left( \cdot \right) }\left( E\right) $ with variable exponent $p(\cdot )$ and bounded set $E$
The goal of this note is to give, at least for a restricted range of indices, a short proof of homogeneous commutator estimates for fractional derivatives of a product, using classical tools. Both $L^{p}$ and weighted $L^{p}$ estimates can be proved by the same argument. When the space dimension is 1, we obtain some new estimates in the unexplored range $1/3<r\le1/2$.
We give a proof of commutator estimates for fractional powers of the sublaplacian on the Heisenberg group. Our approach is based on pointwise and $L^p$ estimates involving square fractional integrals and Littlewood-Paley square functions.
We continue our study of hydrodynamic models of self-organized evolution of agents with singular interaction kernel $ϕ(x) = |x|^{-(1+α)}$. Following our works \cite{ST2017a,ST2017b} which focused on the range $1\leq α<2$, and Do et. al. \cite{DKRT2017} which covered the range $0<α<1$, in this paper we revisit the latter case and give a short(-er) proof of global in time existence of smooth solutions, together with a full description of their long time dynamics. Specifically, we prove that starting from any initial condition in $(ρ_0,u_0) \in H^{2+α}\times H^3$, the solution approaches exponent…
The aim of this paper is to give Adams-Spanne type estimates for parabolic sublinear operators and their commutators by with rough kernels generated by parabolic fractional integral operators under generic size conditions which are satisfied by most of the operators in harmonic analysis. Their endpoint estimates are also disposed.
We prove nonlinear lower bounds and commutator estimates for the Dirichlet fractional Laplacian in bounded domains. The applications include bounds for linear drift-diffusion equations with nonlocal dissipation and global existence of weak solutions of critical surface quasi-geostrophic equations.
In the paper, we establish commutator estimates for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map of Stokes systems in Lipschitz domains. The approach is based on Dahlberg's bilinear estimates, and the results may be regarded as an extension of [Dahlberg, Poisson semigroups and singular integrals, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 97(1986), no.1, 41-48.] and [Shen, Commutator estimates for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map in Lipschitz domains, Some topics in harmonic analysis and applications, 369C384, Adv. Lect. Math. (ALM)34, Int. Press, Somerville, MA, 2016.] to Stokes systems.
Our concern in this paper is to study the qualitative properties for harmonic functions related to the fractional Laplacian. Firstly we classify the polynomials in the whole space and in the half space for the fractional Laplacian defined in a principle value sense at infinity. Secondly, we study the fractional harmonic functions in half space with singularities on the boundary and the related distributional identities.
We provide necessary and sufficient geometric conditions for the exact controllability of the one-dimensional fractional free and fractional harmonic Schrödinger equations. The necessary and sufficient condition for the exact controllability of fractional free Schrödinger equations is derived from the Logvinenko-Sereda theorem and its quantitative version established by Kovrijkine, whereas the one for the exact controllability of fractional harmonic Schrödinger equations is deduced from an infinite dimensional version of the Hautus test for Hermite functions and the Plancherel-Rotach formula.
This article addresses the regularity issue for stationary or minimizing fractional harmonic maps into spheres of order $s\in(0,1)$ in arbitrary dimensions. It is shown that such fractional harmonic maps are $C^\infty$ away from a small closed singular set. The Hausdorff dimension of the singular set is also estimated in terms of $s\in(0,1)$ and the stationarity/minimality assumption.
This article addresses the regularity issue for minimizing fractional harmonic maps of order $s\in(0,1/2)$ from an interval into a smooth manifold. Hölder continuity away from a locally finite set is established for a general target. If the target is the standard sphere, then Hölder continuity holds everywhere.
In this paper, we study the fractional harmonic gradient flow on $S^1$ taking values in $S^{n-1} \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ for every $n \geq 2$, in particular addressing uniqueness and regularity of solutions in the so-called energy class with sufficiently small energy, adding to the existing body of knowledge which includes existence of solutions and certain bubbling phenomena.
In this paper we develop the theory of Schauder estimates for the fractional harmonic oscillator $H^σ=(-Δ+|x|^2)^σ$, $0<σ<1$. More precisely, a new class of smooth functions $C^{k,α}_H$ is defined, in which we study the action of $H^σ$. It turns out that these spaces are the suited ones for this type of regularity estimates. In order to prove our results, an analysis of the interaction of the Hermite-Riesz transforms with the Hölder spaces $C^{k,α}_H$ is needed, that we believe of independent interest. The parallel results for the fractional powers of the Laplacian $(-Δ)^σ$ were applied by Caf…
We establish some fixed-time decay estimates in Lebesgue spaces for the fractional heat propagator $e^{-tH^β}$, $t, β>0$, associated with the harmonic oscillator $H=-Δ+ |x|^2$. We then prove some local and global wellposedness results for nonlinear fractional heat equations.
We provide a fractional counterpart of the classical results by Schwarz and Malmheden on harmonic functions. From that we obtain a representation formula for $s$-harmonic functions as a linear superposition of weighted classical harmonic functions which also entails a new proof of the fractional Harnack inequality. This proof also leads to optimal constants for the fractional Harnack inequality in the ball.
We prove continuity on domains up to the boundary for n/2-polyharmonic maps into manifolds. Technically, we show how to adapt Helein's direct approach to the fractional setting. This extends a remark by the author that this is possible in the setting of Riviere's famous regularity result for critical points of conformally invariant variational functionals. Moreover, pointwise behavior for the involved three-commutators is established. Continuity up to the boundary is then obtained via an adaption of Hildebrandt and Kaul's technique to the non-local setting.
In this paper, we continue to study the fractional harmonic gradient flow on $S^{n-1}$ taking values in a general closed manifold $N \subset \mathbb{R}^n$, addressing global existence and uniqueness of solutions of energy class with sufficiently small energy, adding to the existing body of knowledge pertaining to the half-harmonic gradient flow and expanding upon our previous work in [34]. We extend the techniques by Struwe in [30] and Rivière in [22] to the non-local framework analogous to [34] to derive uniqueness, employ commutator estimates as in [8] for regularity and follow [30] for a ge…
We study a general class of Euler equations driven by a forcing with a \emph{commutator structure} of the form $[\mathcal{L},\mathbf{u}](ρ)=\mathcal{L}(ρ\mathbf{u})- \mathcal{L}(ρ)\mathbf{u}$, where $\mathbf{u}$ is the velocity field and $\mathcal{L}$ is the "action" which belongs to a rather general class of translation invariant operators. Such systems arise, for example, as the hydrodynamic description of velocity alignment, where action involves convolutions with bounded, positive influence kernels, $\mathcal{L}_ϕ(f)=ϕ*f$. Our interest lies with a much larger class of $\mathcal{L}$'s which…
This paper is devoted to the asymptotic analysis of a fractional version of the Ginzburg-Landau equation in bounded domains, where the Laplacian is replaced by an integro-differential operator related to the square root Laplacian as defined in Fourier space. In the singular Ginzburg-Landau limit, we show that solutions with uniformly bounded energy converge weakly to sphere valued 1/2-harmonic maps, i.e., the fractional analogues of the usual harmonic maps. In addition, the convergence holds in smooth functions spaces away from a (n-1)-rectifiable closed set of finite (n-1)-Hausdorff measure. …
Let $M_{Ω,\a}$ and $I_{Ω,\a}$ be the fractional maximal and integral operators with rough kernels, where $0 < \a < n$. In this paper, we shall study the continuity properties of $M_{Ω,\a}$ and $I_{Ω,\a}$ on the generalized local Morrey spaces $LM_{p,φ}^{x_0}$. The boundedness of their commutators with local Campanato functions is also obtained.
We study existence, uniqueness and boundary blow-up profile for fractional harmonic functions on a bounded smooth domain $Ω\subset \mathbb R^N$. We deal with harmonic functions associated to uniformly elliptic, fully nonlinear nonlocal operators, including the linear case $$ (-Δ)^s u = 0 \quad \mbox{in} \ Ω, $$ where $(-Δ)^s$ denotes the fractional Laplacian of order $2s \in (0,2)$. We use the viscosity solution's theory and Perron's method to construct harmonic functions with zero exterior condition in $\bar Ω^c$, and boundary blow-up profile $$ \lim_{x\to x_0, x \in Ω}\mathrm{dist}(x, \parti…
We give two weighted norm estimates for higher order commutator of classical operators such as singular integral and fractional type operators, between weighted $L^p$ and certain spaces that include Lipschitz, BMO and Morrey spaces. We also give the optimal parameters involved with these results, where the optimality is understood in the sense that the parameters defining the corresponding spaces belong to certain region out of which the classes of weights are satisfied by trivial weights. We also exhibit pairs of non-trivial weights in the optimal region satisfying the conditions required. Fi…
Let $μ$ be a non-negative Borel measure on $R^d$ satisfying that the measure of a cube in $R^d$ is smaller than the length of its side raised to the $n$-th power, $0<n\leq d$. In this article we study the class of weights related to the boundedness of radial fractional type maximal operator associated to a Young function $B$ in the context of non-homogeneous spaces related with the measure $μ$. This type of maximal operators are the adequate operators related with commutators of singular and fractional operators. Particularly, we give an improvement of a two weighted result for certain fractio…
In this paper, we are concerned with equations \eqref{PDE} involving higher-order fractional Laplacians. By introducing a new approach, we prove the super poly-harmonic properties for nonnegative solutions to \eqref{PDE} (Theorem \ref{Thm0}). Our theorem seems to be the first result on this problem. As a consequence, we derive many important applications of the super poly-harmonic properties. For instance, we establish Liouville theorems, integral representation formula and classification results for nonnegative solutions to fractional higher-order equations \eqref{PDE} with general nonlineari…
This paper addresses the approximation of fractional harmonic maps. Besides a unit-length constraint, one has to tackle the difficulty of nonlocality. We establish weak compactness results for critical points of the fractional Dirichlet energy on unit-length vector fields. We devise and analyze numerical methods for the approximation of various partial differential equations related to fractional harmonic maps. The compactness results imply the convergence of numerical approximations. Numerical examples on spin chain dynamics and point defects are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of …

We estimate the Hopf degree for smooth maps $f$ from $\mathbb{S}^{4n-1}$ to $\mathbb{S}^{2n}$ in the fractional Sobolev space. Namely we show that for $s \in [1 - \frac{1}{4n}, 1]$ \[ \left |{\rm deg}_H(f)\right | \lesssim [f]_{W^{s,\frac{4n-1}{s}}}^{\frac{4n}{s}}. \] Our argument is based on the Whitehead integral formula and commutator estimates for Jacobian-type expressions.
In this paper we discuss the relation between non-homogeneous nonlinear fractional diffusive equations and the Schrodinger equation with time-dependent harmonic potential. It is well known that the Cole-Hopf transformation allows to linearize non-homogeneous nonlinear diffusive equations (NHNDEs) into a Schrodinger-type equation with time-dependent potential. We first discuss the utility of the results about time-dependent harmonic oscillator to build explicit solution of such non-homogeneous nonlinear partial differential equations. In particular, we recall that starting from a trial polynomi…
We investigate a fractional notion of gradient and divergence operator. We generalize the div-curl estimate by Coifman-Lions-Meyer-Semmes to fractional div-curl quantities, obtaining, in particular, a nonlocal version of Wente's lemma. We demonstrate how these quantities appear naturally in nonlocal geometric equations, which can be used to obtain a theory for fractional harmonic maps analogous to the local theory. Firstly, regarding fractional harmonic maps into spheres, we obtain a conservation law analogous to Shatah's conservation law and give a new regularity proof analogous to Hélein's f…
We introduce the concept of locally homogeneous space, and prove in this context L^p and Holder estimates for singular and fractional integrals, as well as L^p estimates on the commutator of a singular or fractional integral with a BMO or VMO function. These results are motivated by local a-priori estimates for subelliptic equations.
