We consider the SQG equation with dissipation given by a fractional Laplacian of order $α<\frac{1}{2}$. We introduce a notion of suitable weak solution, which exists for every $L^2$ initial datum, and we prove that for such solution the singular set is contained in a compact set in spacetime of Hausdorff dimension at most $\frac{1}{2α} \left( \frac{1+α}α (1-2α) + 2\right)$.
We prove that the spacetime singular set of any suitable Leray-Hopf solution of the surface quasigeostrophic equation with fractional dissipation of order $0< α< \frac{1}{2}$ has Hausdorff dimension at most $\frac{1}{2α^2}\,.$ This result improves previously known dimension estimate established in [6] and builds on the excess decay result and the control on the particle flow already developed there. The improvement lies in the initial iteration of the local energy inequality in analogy with the celebrated result of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg [2] for the Navier-Stokes equations.
Given a smooth Riemannian manifold (M,g)we investigate the existence of positive solutions to a singularly perturbed supercritical elliptic equation which concentrate at some submanifold of M. We obtain a posive answer for some manifolds, which include warped products.
We use asymptotic analysis and numerical simulations to study peak-type singular solutions of the supercritical biharmonic NLS. These solutions have a quartic-root blowup rate, and collapse with a quasi self-similar universal profile, which is a zero-Hamiltonian solution of a fourth-order nonlinear eigenvalue problem.
In this paper, we aim to investigate the following class of singularly perturbed elliptic problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} \displaystyle -\varepsilon^2\triangle {u}+|x|^ηu =|x|^ηf(u)& \mbox{in}\,\, A, u=0 & \mbox{on}\,\, \partial A, \end{array} \right. $$ where $\varepsilon>0$, $η\in\mathbb{R}$, $A=\{x\in\R^{2N}:\,\,0<a<|x|<b\}$, $N\ge2$ and $f$ is a nonlinearity of $C^1$ class with supercritical growth. By a reduction argument, we show that there exists a nodal solution $u_\e$ with exactly two positive and two negative peaks, which concentrate on two different orthogonal spheres of dimens…
Let $λ^{*}>0$ denote the largest possible value of $λ$ such that $$ \{{array}{lllllll} Δ^{2}u=λ(1+u)^{p} & {in}\ \ \B, %0<u\leq 1 & {in}\ \ \B, u=\frac{\partial u}{\partial n} =0 & {on}\ \ \partial \B {array}. $$ has a solution, where $\B$ is the unit ball in $R^{n}$ centered at the origin, $p>\frac{n+4}{n-4}$ and $n$ is the exterior unit normal vector. We show that for $λ=λ^{*}$ this problem possesses a unique weak solution $u^{*}$, called the extremal solution. We prove that $u^{*}$ is singular when $n\geq 13$ for $p$ large enough, in which case $u^{*}(x)\leq r^{-\frac{4}{p-1}}-1$ on the uni…
The main objective of this paper is to answer the questions posed by Robinson and Sadowski [21, p. 505, Comm. Math. Phys., 2010]{[RS3]} for the Navier-Stokes equations. Firstly, we prove that the upper box dimension of the potential singular points set $\mathcal{S}$ of suitable weak solution $u$ belonging in $ L^{q}(0,T;L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{3}))$ for $1\leq\frac{2}{q}+\frac{ 3}{p}\leq\frac32$ with $2\leq q<\infty$ and $2<p<\infty$ is at most $\max\{p,q\}(\frac{2}{q}+\frac{ 3}{p}-1)$ in this system. Secondly, it is shown that $1-2 s$ dimension Hausdorff measure of potential singular points set of …
In this paper, we give a classification of the isolated singularities of positive solutions to the semilinear fractional elliptic equations $$(E) \quad\quad (-Δ)^s u = |x|^θ u^{p}\quad {\rm in}\ \ B_1\setminus\{0\},\quad u= h\quad{\rm in}\ \ \mathbb{R}^N\setminus B_1,\quad $$ where $s\in(0,1)$, $θ>-2s$, $p>\frac{N+θ}{N-2s}$, $B_1$ is the unit ball centered at the origin of $\mathbb{R}^N$ with $N>2s$. $h$ is a nonnegative Hölder continuous function in $\mathbb{R}^N\setminus B_1$. Our analysis of isolated singularities of $(E)$ is based on an integral upper bounds and the study of the Poisson pr…
In this paper, we investigate systematically the supercritical conditions on the pressure $π$ associated to a Navier-Stokes solution $v$ (in three-dimensions), which ensure a reduction in the Hausdorff dimension of the singular set at a first potential blow-up time. As a consequence, we show that if the pressure $π$ satisfies the endpoint scale invariant conditions $$π\in L^{r,\infty}_{t}L^{s,\infty}_{x}\quad\textrm{with}\,\,\tfrac{2}{r}+\tfrac{3}{s}=2\,\,\textrm{and}\,\,r\in (1,\infty),$$ then the Hausdorff dimension of the singular set at a first potential blow-up time is arbitrarily small. …
We present a numerical study of a derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a general power nonlinearity, $|ψ|^{2σ}ψ_x$. In the $L^2$-supercritical regime, $σ>1$, our simulations indicate that there is a finite time singularity. We obtain a precise description of the local structure of the solution in terms of blowup rate and asymptotic profile, in a form similar to that of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with supercritical power law nonlinearity.
We study radial solutions of the semilinear elliptic equation $Δu+f(u)=0$ under rather general growth conditions on $f$. We construct a radial singular solution and study the intersection number between the singular solution and a regular solution. An application to bifurcation problems of elliptic Dirichlet problems is given. To this end, we derive a certain limit equation from the original equation at infinity, using a generalized similarity transformation. Through a generalized Cole-Hopf transformation, all the limit equations can be reduced into two typical cases, i.e., $Δu+u^p=0$ and $Δu+…

In this paper we consider the slightly $L^2$-supercritical gKdV equations $\partial_t u+(u_{xx}+u|u|^{p-1})_x=0$, with the nonlinearity $5<p<5+\varepsilon$ and $0<\varepsilon\ll 1$ . We will prove the existence and stability of a blow-up dynamic with self-similar blow-up rate in the energy space $H^1$ and give a specific description of the formation of the singularity near the blow-up time.
We establish the existence of semiclassical states for a nonlinear Klein-Gordon-Maxwell-Proca system in static form, with Proca mass 1 on a closed Riemannian manifold. Our results include manifolds of arbitrary dimension and allow supercritical nonlinearities. In particular, we exhibit a large class of 3-dimensional manifolds on which the system has semiclassical solutions for every exponent p>2. The solutions we obtain concentrate at closed submanifolds of positive dimension as the singular perturbation parameter goes to zero
We consider the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equations $i\partial_t u+Δu +u|u|^{p-1}=0$ in dimension $1\leq N\leq 5$ and for slightly $L^2$ supercritical nonlinearities $p_c<p<(1+\e)p_c$ with $p_c=1+\frac{4}{N}$ and $0<\e\ll 1$. We prove the existence and stability in the energy space $H^1$ of a self similar finite time blow up dynamics and provide a qualitative description of the singularity formation near the blow up time
In this paper we consider the slightly $L^2$-supercritical gKdV equations $\partial_t u+(u_{xx}+u|u|^{p-1})_x=0$, with the nonlinearity $5<p<5+\varepsilon$ and $0<\varepsilon\ll 1$ . In the previous work of the author we know that there exists an stable self-similar blow-up dynamics for slightly $L^2$-supercritical gKdV equations. Such solution can be viewed as solutions with single blow-up point. In this paper we will prove the existence of solutions with multiple blow-up points, and give a description of the formation of the singularity near the blow-up time.
We study the problem \begin{equation*} (I_ε) \left\{\begin{aligned} -Δu- \frac{μu}{|x|^2}&=u^p -εu^q \quad\text{in }\quad Ω, \\ u&>0 \quad\text{in }\quad Ω, \\ u &\in H^1_0(Ω)\cap L^{q+1}(Ω), \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} where $q>p\geq 2^*-1$, $ε>0$ is a parameter, $Ω\subseteq\mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary, $0\in Ω$, $N\geq 3$ and $0<μ<\barμ:=\big(\frac{N-2}{2}\big)^2$. We prove at $0$, any solution of $(I_ε)$ has the singularity of order $|x|^{-ν}$ when $q<\frac{2+ν}ν$ and of the order $|x|^{-\frac{2}{q-1}}$, when $q>\frac{2+ν}ν$, where $ν=\sqrt{\barμ}-\sqrt{\…
An analogy of nonexistence result by Baras and Goldstein (1984), for the heat equation with inverse singular potential, is proved for 2mth-order linear parabolic equations with Hardy-supercritical singular potentials. Extensions to other linear and nonlinear singular PDEs are discussed.
This paper is concerned with the existence of normalized solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ -Δu+V(x)u+λu = |u|^{p-2}u \qquad\text{in $\mathbb{R}^N$} \] in the mass supercritical and Sobolev subcritical case $2+\frac{4}{N}<p<2^*$. We prove the existence of a solution $(u,λ)\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)\times\mathbb{R}^+$ with prescribed $L^2$-norm $\|u\|_2=ρ$ under various conditions on the potential $V:\mathbb{R}^N\to\mathbb{R}$, positive and vanishing at infinity, including potentials with singularities. The proof is based on a new min-max argument.
We consider the energy super critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$i\pa_tu+Δu+u|u|^{p-1}=0$$ in large dimensions $d\geq 11$ with spherically symmetric data. For all $p>p(d)$ large enough, in particular in the super critical regime, we construct a family of smooth finite time blow up solutions which become singular via concentration of a universal profile with the so called type II quantized blow up rates. The essential feature of these solutions is that all norms below scaling remain bounded. Our analysis fully revisits the construction of type II blow up solutions for the corresponding he…
For the radial energy-supercritical nonlinear wave equation $$\Box u = -u_{tt} + \triangle u = \pm u^7$$ on $\R^{3+1}$, we prove the existence of a class of global in forward time $C^\infty$-smooth solutions with infinite critical Sobolev norm $\dot{H}^{\frac{7}{6}}(\R^3)\times \dot{H}^{\f16}(\R^3)$. Moreover, these solutions are stable under suitably small perturbations . We also show that for the {\em defocussing} energy supercritical wave equation, we can construct such solutions which moreover satisfy the size condition $\|u(0, \cdot)\|_{L_x^\infty(|x|\geq 1)}>M$ for arbitrarily prescribed…
We study the nonhomogeneous Dirichlet problem for first order Hamilton-Jacobi equations associated with Tonelli Hamiltonians on a bounded domain $Ω$ of $\R^n$ assuming the energy level to be supercritical. First, we show that the viscosity (weak KAM) solution of such a problem is Lipschitz continuous and locally semiconcave in $Ω$. Then, we analyse the singular set of a solution showing that singularities propagate along suitable curves, the so-called generalized characteristics, and that such curves stay singular unless they reach the boundary of $Ω$. Moreover, we prove that the latter is nev…
We consider singular solutions of the biharmonic NLS. In the L^2-critical case, the blowup rate is bounded by a quartic-root power law, the solution approaches a self-similar profile, and a finite amount of L^2-norm, which is no less than the critical power, concentrates into the singularity ("strong collapse"). In the L^2-critical and supercritical cases, we use asymptotic analysis and numerical simulations to characterize singular solutions with a peak-type self-similar collapsing core. In the critical case, the blowup rate is slightly faster than a quartic-root, and the self-similar profile…
We study the existence of positive solutions to the quasilinear elliptic problem -εΔu+V(x)u-εk(\Del(|u|^{2}))u=g(u), \quad u>0, x \in R^N, where g has superlinear growth at infinity without any restriction from above on its growth. Mountain pass in a suitable Orlicz space is employed to establish this result. These equations contain strongly singular nonlinearities which include derivatives of the second order which make the situation more complicated. Such equations arise when one seeks for standing wave solutions for the corresponding quasilinear Schrödinger equations. Schrödinger equations …
In this work we study the global existence for 3d semilinear wave equation with non-negative potential satisfying generic decay assumptions. In the supercritical case we establish the small data global existence result. The approach is based on appropriate conformal energy estimate in combination with Hardy inequality for conformal energy on space - like surfaces.
This paper studies the structure of the singular set (points of nondifferentiability) of viscosity solutions to Hamilton-Jacobi equations associated with general mechanical systems on the n-torus. First, using the level set method, we characterize the propagation of singularities along generalized characteristics. Then, we obtain a local propagation result for singularities of weak KAM solutions in the supercritical case. Finally, we apply such a result to study the propagation of singularities for barrier functions.
In this paper, we solve the Dirichlet problem for Lagrangian phase equation with critical and supercritical phase. A crucial ingredient is the interior $C^2$ estimate. Our result is sharp in the sense that there exist singular solutions in the subcritical phase case.
We consider the semiclassical limit of the Hartree equation with a data causing a focusing at a point. We study the asymptotic behavior of phase function associated with the WKB approximation near the caustic when a nonlinearity is supercritical. In this case, it is known that a phase shift occurs in a neighborhood of focusing time in the case of focusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Thanks to the smoothness of the nonlocal nonlinearities, we justify the WKB-type approximation of the solution for a data which is larger than in the previous results and is not necessarily well-prepared.…
We consider the energy supercritical heat equation with the $(n-3)$-th Sobolev exponent \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu+u^{3},~&\mbox{ in } Ω\times (0,T),\\ u(x,t)=u|_{\partialΩ},~&\mbox{ on } \partialΩ\times (0,T),\\ u(x,0)=u_0(x),~&\mbox{ in } Ω, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $5\leq n\leq 7$, $Ω=\R^n$ or $Ω\subset \R^n$ is a smooth, bounded domain enjoying special symmetries. We construct type II finite time blow-up solution $u(x,t)$ with the singularity taking place along an $(n-4)$-dimensional {\em shrinking sphere} in $Ω$. More precisely, at leading order, the solution $u(x,t)$…
This paper investigates the global (in time) regularity of solutions to a system of equations that generalize the vorticity formulation of the 2D Boussinesq-Navier-Stokes equations. The velocity $u$ in this system is related to the vorticity $ω$ through the relations $u=\nabla^\perp ψ$ and $Δψ= Λ^σ(\log(I-Δ))^γω$, which reduces to the standard velocity-vorticity relation when $σ=γ=0$. When either $σ>0$ or $γ>0$, the velocity $u$ is more singular. The "quasi-velocity" $v$ determined by $\nabla\times v =ω$ satisfies an equation of very special structure. This paper establishes the global regular…
We examine the question of uniqueness for the equivariant reduction of the harmonic map heat flow in the energy supercritical dimension. It is shown that, generically, singular data can give rise to two distinct solutions which are both stable, and satisfy the local energy inequality. We also discuss how uniqueness can be retrieved.
We construct positive singular solutions for the problem $-Δu=λ\exp (e^u)$ in $B_1\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n\geq 3$), $u=0$ on $\partial B_1$, having a prescribed behaviour around the origin. Our study extends the one in Y. Miyamoto [Y. Miyamoto, A limit equation and bifurcation diagrams of semilinear elliptic equations with general supercritical growth. J. Differential Equations \textbf{264} (2018), 2684--2707] for such nonlinearities. Our approach is then carried out to elliptic equations featuring iterated exponentials.
We consider the linear stationary equation defined by the fractional Laplacian with drift. In the supercritical case, that is the case when the dominant term is given by the drift instead of the diffusion component, we prove local regularity of solutions in Sobolev spaces em- ploying tools from the theory of pseudo-differential operators. The regularity of solutions in the supercritical case is as expected in the subcritical case, when the diffusion is at least as strong as the drift component, and the operator defined by the fractional Laplacian with drift can be viewed as an elliptic operato…
The main goal of this paper is to address an important conjecture in the field of differential equations in the presence of a harmonic potential. While in the subcritical case, the uniqueness of positive solution has been addressed by Hirose and Ohta in 2007, the problem has remained open for years in the supercritical case. In Hadj Selem et al., the authors obtained interesting numerical computations suggesting that for some bifurcating parameter $λ$, the equation has many positive solutions that vanish at infinity. In this paper, we provide a proof to this claim by constructing an accountabl…
We prove the existence of positive solutions for the supercritical nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equation $(-Δ)^s u+V(x)u-u^p=0$ in $\mathbb R^n$, with $u(x)\to 0$ as $|x|\to +\infty$, where $p>\frac{n+2s}{n-2s}$ for $s\in (0,1), \ n>2s$. We show that if $V(x)=o(|x|^{-2s})$ as $|x|\to +\infty$, then for $p>\frac{n+2s-1}{n-2s-1}$, this problem admits a continuum of solutions. More generally, for $p>\frac{n+2s}{n-2s}$, conditions for solvability are also provided. This result is the extension of the work by Davila, Del Pino, Musso and Wei to the fractional case. Our main contributions are: th…
We address the well-posedness theory for the magento-geostrophic equation, namely an active scalar equation in which the divergence-free drift velocity is one derivative more singular than the active scalar. In the presence of supercritical fractional diffusion given by (-Δ)^γ, where 0<γ<1, we discover that for γ>1/2 the equations are locally well-posed, while for γ<1/2 they are ill-posed, in the sense that there is no Lipschitz solution map. The main reason for the striking loss of regularity when γgoes below 1/2 is that the constitutive law used to obtain the velocity from the active scalar …
Consider the following time-dependent stable-like operator with drift $$ \mathscr{L}_tφ(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^d}\big[φ(x+z)-φ(x)-z^{(α)}\cdot\nablaφ(x)\big]σ(t,x,z)ν_α(d z)+b(t,x)\cdot\nabla φ(x), $$ where $d\geq 1$, $ν_α$ is an $α$-stable type Lévy measure with $α\in(0,1]$ and $z^{(α)}=1_{α=1}1_{|z|\leq1}z$, $σ$ is a real-valued Borel function on $\mathbb{R}_+\times\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$ and $b$ is an $\mathbb{R}^d$-valued Borel function on $\mathbb{R}_+\times\mathbb{R}^d$. By using the Littlewood-Paley theory, we establish the well-posedness for the martingale problem associated with …

We prove Hölder continuity of weak solutions of the uniformly elliptic and parabolic equations %$Δu-\frac{A}{|x|^{2+β}}u=0,\,\,(β\geq 0)$, and variable second order term coefficients case $%% \begin{equation}\label{01} \partial_{i} (a_{ij}(x) \partial_{j}u(x)) - \frac{A}{|x|^{2+β}} u(x) =0\quad (A>0,\quadβ\geq 0), \end{equation} \begin{equation}\label{02} \partial_{i} (a_{ij}(x,t) \partial_{j}u(x,t)) - \frac{A}{|x|^{2+β}} u(x,t)-\partial_{t}u(x,t) =0\quad (A>0,\quadβ\geq 0), \end{equation} with critical or supercritical 0-order term coefficients which are beyond De Giorgi-Nash-Moser's Theory. …
Given an isoparametric function $f$ on the $n$-dimensional round sphere, we consider functions of the form $u=w\circ f$ to reduce the semilinear elliptic problem \[ -Δ_{g_0}u+λu=λ | u\ | ^{p-1}u\qquad\text{ on }\mathbb{S}^n \] with $λ>0$ and $1<p$, into a singular ODE in $[0,π]$ of the form $w'' + \frac{h(r)}{\sin r} w' + \fracλ{\ell^2}\ (| w|^{p-1}w - w\ )=0$, where $h$ is an strictly decreasing function having exactly one zero in this interval and $\ell$ is a geometric constant. Using a double shooting method, together with a result for oscillating solutions to this kind of ODE, we obtain a …
This paper presents a study of the asymptotic behavior of the solutions for the history value problem of a viscoelastic wave equation which features a fading memory term as well as a supercritical source term and a frictional damping term: \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_{tt}- k(0) Δu - \int_0^{\infty} k'(s) Δu(t-s) ds +|u_t|^{m-1}u_t =|u|^{p-1}u, \quad \text{ in } Ω\times (0,T), \\ u(x,t)=u_0(x,t), \quad \text{ in } Ω\times (-\infty,0], \end{cases} \end{align*} where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb R^3$ with a Dirichlét boundary condition and $u_0$ represents the history value. A suitable …
Singular solutions of the harmonic Einstein evolution equation are constructed which are related to spatially global and time-local solutions for a certain class of quasilinear hyperbolic systems of second order. The constructed singularities of curvature invariants occur generically and are accessible by g.a.p. curves. The singularities are not strongly censored, and for strongly asymptotically predictable space-times, they are located in the causal past of the future null infinity, and are, hence, not shielded by a black hole. This is an alternative construction of singularities, which may b…
We study the surface quasi-geostrophic equation with an irregular spatial perturbation $$ \partial_{t }θ+ u\cdot\nablaθ= -ν(-Δ)^{γ/2}θ+ ζ,\qquad u=\nabla^{\perp}(-Δ)^{-1}θ, $$ on $[0,\infty)\times\mathbb{T}^{2}$, with $ν\geq 0$, $γ\in [0,3/2)$ and $ζ\in B^{-2+κ}_{\infty,\infty}(\mathbb{T}^{2})$ for some $κ>0$. This covers the case of $ζ= (-Δ)^{α/2}ξ$ for $α<1$ and $ξ$ a spatial white noise on $\mathbb{T}^{2}$. Depending on the relation between $γ$ and $α$, our setting is subcritical, critical or supercritical in the language of Hairer's regularity structures \cite{Hai14}. Based on purely analy…
We consider the energy supercritical defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_tu+Δu-u|u|^{p-1}=0$ in dimension $d\ge 5$. In a suitable range of energy supercritical parameters $(d,p)$, we prove the existence of $\mathcal C^\infty$ well localized spherically symmetric initial data such that the corresponding unique strong solution blows up in finite time. Unlike other known blow up mechanisms, the singularity formation does not occur by concentration of a soliton or through a self similar solution, which are unknown in the defocusing case, but via a front mechanism. Blow up is achie…
Nonlinear heat equations in two dimensions with singular initial data are studied. In recent works nonlinearities with exponential growth of Trudinger-Moser type have been shown to manifest critical behavior: well-posedness in the subcritical case and non-existence for certain supercritical data. In this article we propose a specific model nonlinearity with Trudinger-Moser growth for which we obtain surprisingly complete results: a) for initial data strictly below a certain singular threshold function $\widetilde u$ the problem is well-posed, b) for initial data above this threshold function $…
