In this work, first, we study a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe with two scalar fields but only one potential term, which can be thought as a simple quintessence plus a K-essence model. Employing the Hamiltonian formalism we are able to obtain the classical and quantum solutions. The second model studied, is also a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe with two scalar fields, with the difference that the two potentials are considered as well as the standard kinetic energy and the mixed term (chiral field approach). Regarding this second model, it is shown that setting to zero the coefficient accompanying the mixed momenta term, two possible cases can be studied: a quintom like case ($m^{12}_{+}$) and a quintessence like case ($m^{12}_{-}$). For both scenarios classical and quantum solutions are presented.
We present simple solutions of IKKT-type matrix models describing a quantized homogeneous and isotropic cosmology with $k=-1$, finite density of microstates and a resolved Big Bang. At late times, a linear coasting cosmology $a(t) \propto t$ is obtained, which is remarkably close to observation. The solution consists of two sheets with opposite intrinsic chiralities, which are connected in a Euclidean pre-big bang era.
We analyze the quantum supersymmetric cosmological FRW model with a scalar field, with a conditional probability density and the scalar field identified as time. The Hilbert space has a spinorial structure and there is only one consistent solution, with a conserved probability density. The dynamics of the scale factor is obtained from its mean value. The uncertainty relations are fulfilled and the corresponding fluctuations are consistent with a semiclassical Universe. We give two examples which turn out to have negative potential.
We examine the effect on cosmological evolution of adding a string motivated Gauss-Bonnet term to the traditional Einstein-Hilbert action for a (1 + 3) + d dimensional Friedman-Robertson- Walker (FRW) metric. By assuming that the additional dimensions compactify as the usual 3 spatial dimensions expand, we find that the Gauss Bonnet terms give perturbative corrections to the FRW equations. We find corrections that appear in the calculation of both the Hubble constant, H0, and the acceleration parameter, q0, for a variety of cases that are consistent with a dark energy equation of state.
In this paper, we will study the rainbow deformation of the FRW cosmology in both Einstein gravity and Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We will demonstrate that the singularity in the FRW cosmology can be removed because of the rainbow deformation of the FRW metric. We will obtain the general constraints required for the FRW cosmology to be free from singularities. It will be observed that the inclusion of Gauss-Bonnet gravity can significantly change the constraints required to obtain a nonsingular universes. We will use a rainbow functions motivated from the hard spectra of gamma-ray bursts to deform t…
We examine the effect on cosmological evolution of adding a Gauss-Bonnet term to the standard Einstein-Hilbert action for a (1 + 3)+ d dimensional Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) metric. By assuming that the additional dimensions compactify as a power law as the usual 3 spatial dimensions expand, we solve the resulting dynamical equations and find that the solution may be of either de Sitter or Kasner form depending upon whether the Gauss-Bonnet term or the Einstein term dominates.
We study the quantum cosmology of a quadratic $f(R)$ theory with a FRW metric, via one of its equivalent Horndeski type actions, where the dynamics of the scalar field is induced. The classical equations of motion and the Weeler-deWitt equation, in their exact versions, are solved numerically. From the choice of a free parameter in the action follow two cases, inflation + exit and inflation alone. The numerical solution of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation depends strongly on the boundary conditions, which can be chosen so that the resulting wave function of the universe seems to be normalizable and…
We consider the effects of noncommutativity and the generalized uncertainty principle on the FRW cosmology with a scalar field. We show that, the cosmological constant problem and removability of initial curvature singularity find natural solutions in this scenarios.
We consider a flat cosmological model with a free massless scalar field and the cosmological constant $Λ$ in the framework of loop quantum cosmology. The scalar field plays the role of an intrinsic time. We apply the reduced phase space approach. The dynamics of the model is solved analytically. We identify elementary observables and their algebra. The compound physical observables like the volume and the energy density of matter field are analysed. Both compound observables are bounded and oscillate in the $Λ<0$ case. The energy density is bounded and oscillates in the $Λ>0$ case. However, th…
In the present work we investigate the Hojman symmetry in FRW cosmology. In particular, we use the Hojman symmetry to find conserved quantities of particular cosmological models. Next, we study the Hojman symmetry in the scalar-tensor cosmology and find corresponding exact forms of integrals of motion. Finally, the formalism of the Hojman symmetry is extended to dynamical systems with the higher-order equations of motion.
The brick wall method in calculations of the entropy of black holes can be applied to the FRW cosmology in order to study the statistical entropy. An appropriate cutoff satisfying the covariant entropy bound can be chosen so that the entropy has a definite bound. Among the entropy for each of cosmological eras, the vacuum energy-dominated era turns out to give the maximal entropy which is in fact compatible with assumptions from the brick wall method.
The partial Hamiltonian analysis of the Hořava-type action presented in the paper by M. Chaichian, S. Nojiri, S. D. Odintsov, M. Oksanen, A. Tureanu (Class. Quant. Grav. 27 (2011) 185021) is incorrect; for the authors' choice of variables, a covariant shift, instead of a contravariant shift which is the one usually used in General Relativity (GR) in ADM variables, the true algebra of constraints differs from what they presented. The algebra of constraints for their choice of variables is explicitly given for GR and compared with the standard algebra.
We study the quantum cosmology of the 2D Hawking-Page massless scalar-field model and the homogeneous and isotropic dilation-axion string cosmology. For both models we find new exact solutions for the Wheeler-DeWitt equation and for the supersymmetric wave function equations. We show that the Wheeler-DeWitt equations for the Hawking-Page model and the axion-dilaton string cosmology are invariant under a one-parameter and two-parameter squeezed transformations, respectively. These results allow to find new solutions for the wave functions of these systems at the quantum cosmology level. Also, we…
In this work a new law of varying deceleration parameter of third degree have been proposed. The solutions of the modified field equations have been derived under the newly proposed law of the deceleration parameter. Model exhibits the Big-bang singularity at cosmic time ($t=0$) and shows Big Rip at ($t=n$) then it re-enter the phase of initial singularity at $t=2n$ and ends its cyclic behavior at $t=3n$. The evolution of the physical and dynamical parameters of the Universe have been studied and the graphical representation has also been shown. Further $Om(z)$ diagnostic parameter and the ene…
The chaotic behavior in FRW cosmology with a scalar field is studied for scalar field potentials less steep than quadratic. We describe a transition to much stronger chaos for appropriate parameters of such potentials. The range of parameters which allows this transition is specified. The influence of ordinary matter on the chaotic properties of this model is also discussed.
Open FRW model in Loop Quantum Cosmology is under consideration. The left and right invariant vector fields and holonomies along them are studied. It is shown that in the hyperbolic geometry of $k=-1$ it is possible to construct a suitable loop which provides us with quantum scalar constraint originally introduced by Vandersloot. The quantum scalar constraint operator with negative cosmological constant is proved to be essentially self-adjoint.
The consequence of energy conservation in the flat Friedmannn-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology is a strictly positive accelerating expansion. A mechanism is proposed for this expansion due to the effect of the attractive (negative) gravitational potential of matter as it is being included within the expanding horizon, and the offsetting work of metric expansion, which takes place at sub-luminal speed. In our semi-classical treatment, we deal with a quintic as the equation for the scale parameter. Implications for modeling the earliest parts of the primordial expansion are discussed.
In this paper, we propose extended Chaplygin gas equation of state for which it recovers barotropic fluid with quadratic equation of state. We use numerical method to investigate the behavior of some cosmological parameters such as scale factor, Hubble expansion parameter, energy density and deceleration parameter. We also discuss about the resulting effective equation of state parameter. Using density perturbations we investigate the stability of the theory.
We study FRW homogeneous cosmological solutions in the recently found ghost free massive gravity. In previous works it was shown that when the additional extra metric, needed to generate the mass term, is taken as non-dynamical and flat, no homogeneous FRW cosmology exists. We show that, when the additional metric is a dynamical field, a perfectly safe FRW universe exists. FRW solutions fall in two branches. In the first branch the massive deformation is equivalent to an effectively generated cosmological constant whose scale is determined by the graviton mass. The second branch is quite rich:…
We consider the diffeomorphism invariant gravity coupled with the ideal fluid in the non-standard way. The Lorentz-invariance of the graviton propagator in such a theory considered as perturbation over flat background turns out to be broken due to non-standard coupling with the ideal fluid. As a result the behavior of the propagator in the ultraviolet/infrared region indicates that some versions of such theory are (super-)renormalizable ones (with appearance of only physical transverse modes). The FRW cosmology in same cases may be different from the one in General Relativity with the possible…
The closed, k=1, FRW model coupled to a massless scalar field is investigated in the framework of loop quantum cosmology using analytical and numerical methods. As in the k=0 case, the scalar field can be again used as emergent time to construct the physical Hilbert space and introduce Dirac observables. The resulting framework is then used to address a major challenge of quantum cosmology: resolving the big-bang singularity while retaining agreement with general relativity at large scales. It is shown that the framework fulfills this task. In particular, for states which are semi-classical at…
We investigate the relative time scales associated with finite future cosmological singularities, especially those classified as Big Rip cosmologies, and the maximum predictability time of a coupled FRW-KG scalar cosmology with chaotic regimes. Our approach is to show that by starting with a FRW-KG scalar cosmology with a potential that admits an analytical solution resulting in a finite time future singularity there exists a Lyapunov time scale that is earlier than the formation of the singularity. For this singularity both the cosmological scale parameter a(t) and the Hubble parameter H(t) b…
We study effects of noncommutativity on the phase space generated by a non-minimal scalar field which is conformally coupled to the background curvature in an isotropic and homogeneous FRW cosmology. These effects are considered in two cases, when the potential of scalar field has zero and nonzero constant values. The investigation is carried out by means of a comparative detailed analysis of mathematical features of the evolution of universe and the most probable universe wave functions in classically commutative and noncommutative frames and quantum counterparts. The influence of noncommutat…
A special model of a massless vector-field is presented, which has an extra modified-gravity-type interaction term in the action. The cosmology of the model is studied with standard noninteracting relativistic matter added. It is found that this cosmology can have an early phase where the vector-field starts to compensate a (Planck-scale) cosmological constant and a late Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) phase where the relativistic-matter energy density dominates the dynamic vacuum energy density.
We study the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological model to investigate non-smooth curvatures associated with multiple discontinuities involved in the evolution of the universe, by exploiting Lorentzian warped product scheme. Introducing double discontinuities occurred at the radiation-matter and matter-lambda phase transitions, we also discuss non-smooth features of the spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe.
We study the entropy-corrected version of the holographic dark energy (HDE) model in the framework of modified FRW cosmology. We consider a non-flat universe filled with an interacting viscous entropy-corrected HDE (ECHDE) with dark matter. We also include the case of variable gravitational constant G in our model. We obtain the equation of state and the deceleration parameters of the interacting viscous ECHDE. Moreover, we reconstruct the potential and the dynamics of the quintessence, tachyon, K-essence and dilaton scalar field models according to the evolutionary behavior of the interacting…
We investigate the validity of the generalized second law of gravitational thermodynamics on the apparent and event horizons in a non-flat FRW universe containing the interacting dark energy with dark matter. We show that for the dynamical apparent horizon, the generalized second law is always satisfied throughout the history of the universe for any spatial curvature and it is independent of the equation of state parameter of the interacting dark energy model. Whereas for the cosmological event horizon, the validity of the generalized second law depends on the equation of state parameter of th…
We have considered a cosmological model of the FRW universe with variable $G$ and $Λ$. The solutions have been obtained for flat model with particular form of cosmological constant. The cosmological parameters have also been obtained for dust, radiation and stiff matter. The statefinder parameters are analyzed and have shown that these depends only on $w$ and $ε$. Further the lookback time, proper distance, luminosity distance and angular diameter distance have also been calculated for our model.
Maxwell electrodynamics, considered as a source of the classical Einstein field equations, leads to the singular isotropic Friedmann solutions. We show that this singular behavior does not occur for a class of nonlinear generalizations of the electromagnetic theory. A mathematical toy model is proposed for which the analytical nonsingular extension of FRW solutions is obtained.
In this paper within the scope of FRW cosmology for k = 0, \pm1 we study the dynamics of the universe for a cosmological model with a scalar field nonminimally coupled to matter. By best- fitting the model parameters with the observational data for the direct interaction between the dark sectors in the model we obtain observational constraints on cosmological parameters. The result shows that with the best fitted model parameters, only in flat universe, the phantom crossing occurs twice in the past and once in the future, whereas no crossing occurs for open and closed models of the universe.
In this thesis we will focus on Einstein's interpretation of gravity. We will examine how the most famous equations in cosmology are derived from GR and also some results of cosmological significance. We will see how combining that with observational data forces us to consider some form of dark energy or vacuum energy. So we will conclude with some of the more well-known models for dark energy and examine how the dynamics of dark energy can lead us to the so-called cosmological inflation.
Using the corrected entropy-area relation motivated by the loop quantum gravity, we investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in the framework of modified FRW cosmology. We consider a non-flat universe filled with an interacting viscous dark energy with dark matter and radiation. The boundary of the universe is assumed to be the dynamical apparent horizon. We find out that the generalized second law is always satisfied throughout the history of the universe for any spatial curvature regardless of the dark energy model.
We derive the renormalized nonequilibrium equations of motion for a scalar field and its quantum back reaction in a conformally flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We use a fully covariant formalism proposed by us recently for handling numerically and analytically nonequilibrium dynamics in one-loop approximation. The system is assumed to be in a conformal vacuum state initially. We use dimensional regularization; we find that the counter terms can be chosen independent of the initial conditions though the divergent leading order graphs do depend on them.
Using a recently introduced formalism we discuss slow-roll inflaton from Kaluza-Klein theory without the cylinder condition. In particular, some examples corresponding to polynomic and hyperbolic $ϕ$-potentials are studied. We find that the evolution of the fifth coordinate should be determinant for both, the evolution of the early inflationary universe and the quantum fluctuations.
We construct the quintom potential of dark energy models in the framework of spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson Walker universe in the inflationary epoch, using the Bohm like approach, known as amplitude-real-phase. We find some potentials for which the wave function of the universe is found analytically and we have obtained the classical trajectories in the inflation era.
Within the scope of a FRW cosmological model we have studied the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe when it is non-minimally coupled to the gravitational one. We have considered a few types of nonlinearity. It was found that if the spinor field nonlinearity describes an ordinary matter such as radiation, the presence of non-minimality becomes essential and leads to the rapid expansion of the Universe, whereas if the spinor field nonlinearity describes a dark energy, the evolution of the Universe is dominated by it and the difference between the minimal and non-minimally coup…
Present paper deals with flat Friedmann - Robertson - Walker (FRW) model with two - fluid source in fractal cosmology. In this model one fluid represents matter content of the universe and another fluid is radiation field modeling the cosmic microwave background. To get the deterministic model, we have used the relation between pressure and density for matter through the gamma law equation of state $p_{m} = (γ-1)\, ρ_{m}, \,\, 1\leq γ\leq2$ . The solutions of fractal field equations are obtained in terms of Kummer's confluent hypergeometric function of the first kind. Some physical parameters …
The conditions for which the no boundary proposal may have a classical realization of a continuous change of signature, are investigated for a cosmological model described by FRW metric coupled with a self interacting scalar field, having a noncommutative phase space of dynamical variables. The model is then quantized and a good correspondence is shown between the classical and quantum cosmology indicating that the noncommutativity does not destruct the classical-quantum correspondence. It is also shown that the quantum cosmology supports a signature transition where the bare cosmological cons…
The results on chaos in FRW cosmology with a massive scalar field are extended to another scalar field potential. It is shown that for sufficiently steep potentials the chaos disappears. A simple and rather accurate analytical criterion for the chaos to disappear is given. On the contrary, for gently sloping potentials the transition to a strong chaotic regime can occur. Two examples, concerning asymptotically flat and Damour-Mukhanov potentials are given.
In this paper we study the effects of including anisotropic scaling invariance in the minisuperspace Lagrangian for a universe modelled by the Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric, a massless scalar field and cosmological constant. We find that canonical quantization of this system leads to a Schroedinger type equation, thus avoiding the frozen time problem of the usual Wheeler-DeWitt equation. Furthermore, we find numerical solutions for the classical equations of motion, and we also find evidence that under some conditions the big bang singularity is avoided in this model.
In the Einstein-Cartan space $U_4$, an axial vector torsion together with a scalar field connected to a local scale factor have been considered. By combining two particular terms from the SO(4,1) Pontryagin density and then modifying it in a SO(3,1) invariant way, we get a Lagrangian density with Lagrange multipliers. Then under FRW-cosmological background, where the scalar field is connected to the source of gravitation, the Euler-Lagrange equations ultimately give the constancy of the gravitational constant together with only three kinds of energy densities representing mass, radiation and c…
In this work, we present a phase space analysis of a spatially flat Friedmann $-$Robertson$-$Walker (FRW) model in which the dark matter fluid is modeled as an imperfect fluid having bulk viscosity. The bulk viscosity is governed by the Maxwell$-$Cattaneo approach. The rest of the components of the model: radiation and dark energy are treated as perfect fluids. Imposing a complete cosmological dynamics and taking into account a recent constraint on the dark matter equation of state (EOS), we obtain bound on the bulk viscosity. The results point towards the possibility of describing not only th…
We propose a general approach for the construction of modified gravity which is invariant under foliation-preserving diffeomorphisms. Special attention is paid to the formulation of modified $F(R)$ Hořava-Lifshitz gravity (FRHL), whose Hamiltonian structure is studied. It is demonstrated that the spatially-flat FRW equations of FRHL are consistent with the constraint equations. The analysis of de Sitter solutions for several versions of FRHL indicates that the unification of the early-time inflation with the late-time acceleration is possible. It is shown that a special choice of parameters fo…
In this paper we demonstrate that there are large classes of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmologies that admit isotropic conformal structures of Quiescent Cosmology. FRW models have long been known to admit singularities such as Big Bangs and Big Crunches [1, 2] but recently it has been shown that there are other cosmological structures that these solutions contain. These structures are Big Rips, Sudden Singularities and Extremality Events [1, 2]. Within the Quiescent Cosmology framework [3] there also exist structures consistent with a cosmological singularity known as the Isotropic Pas…
Several dark energy models on the brane are investigated. They are compared with corresponding theories in the frame of 4d Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology. To constrain the parameters of the models considered, recent observational data, including SNIa apparent magnitude measurements, baryon acoustic oscillation results, Hubble parameter evolution data and matter density perturbations are used. Explicit formulas of the so-called {\it state-finder} parameters in teleparallel theories are obtained that could be useful to test these models and to establish a link between Loop Quantum Cosmolog…
We consider the k=1 Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model within loop quantum cosmology, paying special attention to the existence of an ambiguity in the quantization process. In spatially non-flat anisotropic models such as Bianchi II and IX, the standard method of defining the curvature through closed holonomies is not admissible. Instead, one has to implement the quantum constraints by approximating the connection via open holonomies. In the case of flat k=0 FRW and Bianchi I models, these two quantization methods coincide, but in the case of the closed $k$=1 FRW model they might yield diff…
We discuss a modified form of gravity implying that the action contains a power αof the scalar curvature. Coupling with the cosmic fluid is assumed. As equation of state for the fluid, we take the simplest version where the pressure is proportional to the density. Based upon a natural ansatz for the time variation of the scale factor, we show that the equations of motion are satisfied for general α. Also the condition of conservation of energy and momentum is satisfied. Moreover, we investigate the case where the fluid is allowed to possess a bulk viscosity, and find the noteworthy fact that c…
It is shown that the differential form of Friedmann equations of FRW universe can be recast as a similar form of the first law, $T_{h}dS_{h} = dE + WdV$, of thermodynamics at the apparent horizon of FRW universe filled with the viscous fluid. It is also shown that the generalized second law of thermodynamics holds at the apparent horizon of FRW universe and preserves dominant energy condition.
The Fock quantization of free fields propagating in cosmological backgrounds is in general not unambiguously defined due to the non-stationarity of the spacetime. For the case of a scalar field in cosmological scenarios it is known that the criterion of unitary implementation of the dynamics serves to remove the ambiguity in the choice of Fock representation (up to unitary equivalence). Here, applying the same type of arguments and methods previously used for the scalar field case, we discuss the issue of the uniqueness of the Fock quantization of the Dirac field in the closed FRW spacetime pr…
It has been argued that the effect of cosmological structure formation on the average expansion rate is negligible, because the linear approximation to the metric remains applicable in the regime of non-linear density perturbations. We discuss why the arguments based on the linear theory are not valid. We emphasise the difference between Newtonian gravity and the weak field, small velocity limit of general relativity in the cosmological setting.
This paper presents a calculation of the quasilocal energy of a generic FRW model of the universe. The results have the correct behavior in the small-sphere limit and vanish for the empty Milne universe. Higher order corrections are found when comparing these results to classical calculations of cosmological energy. This case is different from others in the literature chiefly in that it involves a non-stationary spacetime. This fact can be used to differentiate between the various formulations of quasilocal energy. In particular, the formulation due to Brown and York is compared to that of Epp…
We present a simple argument to explain why the field equations of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric are equivalent to those of Newtonian cosmology. By passing to the infinite limit of a family of conformally rescaled FRW metrics in suitable coordinates, we reveal Newtonian space and time. The limiting process preserves the Einstein equations and these may be elucidated directly from the Newtonian limit up to the determination of the scalar curvature parameter. Consideration of the conformally invariant scalar field equation on the FRW spacetime is used to recover the Einstein equations ef…
In this work, we have considered the power law correction of entropy on the horizon. If the flat FRW Universe is filled with the n components fluid with interactions, the GSL of thermodynamics for apparent and event horizons have been investigated for equilibrium and non-equilibrium cases. If we consider a small perturbation around the de Sitter space-time, the general conditions of the validity of GSL have been found. Also if a phantom dominated Universe has a polelike type scale factor, the validity of GSL has also been analyzed. Further we have obtained constraints on the power-law paramete…
The path integral is calculated for the statistical sum of the microcanonical ensemble in a generic time-parametrization invariant gravitational model with the Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) metric. This represents the first example of a systematic calculation of the Faddeev-Popov gauge-fixed path integral in the minisuperspace sector of quantum cosmology. The gauge fixing procedure, together with gauging out local diffeomorphisms, also handles the residual symmetries associated with the conformal Killing vector of the FRW metric and incorporates the Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization technique …
The metric of an FRW universe filled with pressureless dust is shown to agree, close to any spacetime point, with a curved Newtonian-type metric where Einstein's equations simplify to those of Newtonian gravity. The agreement is shown to quadratic order in the local coordinates, so the curvatures agree. This result is established by expressing both metrics in Riemann normal form. This approach gives a local Newtonian understanding of cosmology that avoids the paradoxes of global Newtonian cosmology.
A flat Fiedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) multi-scalar field cosmology is studied with a particular potential of the form $ \rm V(ϕ,σ)=V_0 e^{-λ_1 ϕ-λ_2 σ}$, which emerges as a relation between the time derivatives of the scalars field momenta. Classically, by employing the Hamiltonian formalism of two scalar fields $\rm(ϕ,σ)$ with standard kinetic energy, exact solutions are found for the Einstein-Klein-Gordon (EKG) system for different scenarios specified by the parameter $\rmλ^2=λ_1^2+λ_2^2$, as well as the e-folding function $\rm N_{e}$ which is also computed. For the quantum scheme of this m…
In this paper, we considered the study of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model in the framework of $f(Q,T)$ gravity, an extension of symmetric teleparallel gravity, recently defined by Y. Xu et al. \cite{Xu}. The non-linear model $f(Q,T)=-αQ-βT^2$, where $α>0$ and $β>0$ are constants, is taken into account. The equation of state of perfect fluid is assumed and 31 points of Hubble data are used to constrain the value of model parameter. To explore the evolution of the universe, the numerical solutions of cosmological implications such as Hubble parameter, deceleration parameter, apparent magn…
