A special model of a massless vector-field is presented, which has an extra modified-gravity-type interaction term in the action. The cosmology of the model is studied with standard noninteracting relativistic matter added. It is found that this cosmology can have an early phase where the vector-field starts to compensate a (Planck-scale) cosmological constant and a late Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) phase where the relativistic-matter energy density dominates the dynamic vacuum energy density.
We compute effective equations of the quantum FRW flat universe in the radiation dominated era at $\hbar$ order, described in terms of Ashtekar variables employing a new method for the geometrical formulation of quantum mechanics. Additional terms of quantum nature correct the classical equations of motion. As a consequence, the initial singularity of the classical model is removed and a Big Bouncing scenario takes its place. We also obtain an expression for the effective action of the model in terms of higher curvature invariants, leading us to corrected Einstein equations for more general co…
We study conformal coupling of dark spinor fields to gravity and calculate the energy density and the pressure of the spinor in FRW spacetime. We consider the renormalizable potential of the spinor field. In the cases where the field is proportional to some power of the cosmic scale factor $a(t)$, we determine the Hubble parameter as a function of the scale factor and find analytic solutions for $a(t)$ when the spinor field matter dilutes as the universe expands. We discuss the possibility that both matter- and dark energy-dominated eras of our universe can be described by the dark spinor.
The evolution of a universe modelled as a mixture of generalised Chaplygin gas and ordinary matter field is studied for a Robertson Walker type of spacetime. This model could interpolate periods of a radiation dominated, matter dominated and a cosmological constant dominated universe. Depending on the arbitrary constants appearing in our theory the instant of flip changes. Interestingly we also get a bouncing model when the signature of one of the constants changes. The velocity of sound may become imaginary under certain situations pointing to a perturbative state and consequently the possibi…
The brick wall method in calculations of the entropy of black holes can be applied to the FRW cosmology in order to study the statistical entropy. An appropriate cutoff satisfying the covariant entropy bound can be chosen so that the entropy has a definite bound. Among the entropy for each of cosmological eras, the vacuum energy-dominated era turns out to give the maximal entropy which is in fact compatible with assumptions from the brick wall method.
We study the existence of black holes in a homogeneous and isotropic expanding Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe dominated by dark energy. We show that black holes can exist in such a universe by considering some specific McVittie solutions. Although these solutions violate all three energy conditions, the FRW background does satisfy the weak energy condition.
In this work, we have considered the power law correction of entropy on the horizon. If the flat FRW Universe is filled with the n components fluid with interactions, the GSL of thermodynamics for apparent and event horizons have been investigated for equilibrium and non-equilibrium cases. If we consider a small perturbation around the de Sitter space-time, the general conditions of the validity of GSL have been found. Also if a phantom dominated Universe has a polelike type scale factor, the validity of GSL has also been analyzed. Further we have obtained constraints on the power-law paramete…
The time equation associated to the Dirac Equation (DE) is studied for the radiation-dominated Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. The results are analysed for small and large values of time. We also incorporate the corrections of the paper studied by Zecca [1] for the matter-dominated FRW universe.
In this paper we study the dynamical behaviour of a simple cosmological model defined by a spatially flat Robertson-Walker geometry, conformally coupled with a massive scalar field. We determine a Lyapunov-like function for the non-linear evolution equations. From this function we prove that all the stationary solutions are unstable. We also show that all initial conditions, different from the stationary points, originate an expanding universe in the asymptotic regime, with a scale parameter $a(t)$ that goes to infinity and the scalar field $ϕ(t)$ that goes to zero in an oscillatory way . We a…
Within the scope of a FRW cosmological model we have studied the role of spinor field in the evolution of the Universe when it is non-minimally coupled to the gravitational one. We have considered a few types of nonlinearity. It was found that if the spinor field nonlinearity describes an ordinary matter such as radiation, the presence of non-minimality becomes essential and leads to the rapid expansion of the Universe, whereas if the spinor field nonlinearity describes a dark energy, the evolution of the Universe is dominated by it and the difference between the minimal and non-minimally coup…
We present non-perturbative numerical relativity simulations of slowly contracting spacetimes in which the scalar field driving slow contraction is coupled to a second scalar field through an exponential non-linear sigma model-type kinetic interaction. These models are important because they can generate a nearly scale-invariant spectrum of super-Hubble density fluctuations fully consistent with cosmic microwave background observations. We show that the non-linear evolution rapidly approaches a homogeneous, isotropic and flat Friedmann- Robertson-Walker (FRW) geometry for a wide range of inhom…
In this work, we present a phase space analysis of a spatially flat Friedmann $-$Robertson$-$Walker (FRW) model in which the dark matter fluid is modeled as an imperfect fluid having bulk viscosity. The bulk viscosity is governed by the Maxwell$-$Cattaneo approach. The rest of the components of the model: radiation and dark energy are treated as perfect fluids. Imposing a complete cosmological dynamics and taking into account a recent constraint on the dark matter equation of state (EOS), we obtain bound on the bulk viscosity. The results point towards the possibility of describing not only th…
We have considered a cosmological model with a cosmological constant of the form $Λ=3α\frac{\dot R^2}{R^2}+\bt\frac{\ddot R}{R} α, \bt=\rm const.$ The cosmological constant is found to decrease as $t^{-2}$ and the rate of particle creation is smaller than the Steady State value. We have found that this behavior gives $\frac{Λ_{Pl}}{Λ_p}=10^{120}$ where $Λ_{Pl}$ is the value of $Λ$ at Planck time. Solutions with $\bt=3α$ in the radiation dominated era and $\bt=6α$ in the matter dominated era are equivalent to the FRW results. We have found an inflationary solution of the de-Sitter type with $\b…
We analyze minimally coupled massless scalar field in a Friedmann (FRW) universe in conformal co-ordinates to model the evolution of tensor perturbations and study the structure of the Wightman function therein. Using a duality map from a power law FRW universe to the de Sitter universe for such fields we obtain unequal time commutation relations between quantum field variables. We demonstrate that the commutation relations are invariant under state change and/or vacuum state selection. Using such commutators it is then possible to construct out of time ordered commutators (OTOC) in the FRW un…
The Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space-time exhibits particle creation similar to Hawking radiation of a black hole. In this essay we show that this FRW Hawking radiation leads to an effective negative pressure fluid which can drive an inflationary period of exponential expansion in the early Universe. Since the Hawking temperature of the FRW space-time decreases as the Universe expands this mechanism naturally turns off and the inflationary stage transitions to a power law expansion associated with an ordinary radiation dominated Universe.
The inflationary epoch and the late time acceleration of the expansion rate of universe can be explained by assuming a gravitationally coupled scalar field. In this article, we propose a new method of finding exact solutions in the background of flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmological models by considering both scalar field and matter where the scalar field potential is a function of the scale factor. Our method provides analytical expressions for equation of state parameter of scalar field, deceleration parameter and Hubble parameter. This method can be applied to various other for…
We provide a detailed description for power-law scaling FRW cosmological models in Brans-Dicke theory dominated by two interacting fluid components during the expansion of the universe.
We deduce general expressions for the line element of universe models with positive spatial curvature described by conformally flat spacetime coordinates. Models with dust, radiation and vacuum energy are exhibited. Discussing the existence of particle horizons we show that there is continual annihilation of space, matter and energy in a dust and radiation dominated universe, and continual creation in a LIVE domined universe when conformal time is used in Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models with positive spatial curvature. A general procedure is given for finding coordinates to be used in Penros…
In this article we study the quantization and causal properties of a massive spin 3/2 Rarita-Schwinger field on spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spacetimes. We construct Zuckerman's universal conserved current and prove that it leads to a positive definite inner product on solutions of the field equation. Based on this inner product, we quantize the Rarita-Schwinger field in terms of a CAR-algebra. The transversal and longitudinal parts constituting the independent on-shell degrees of freedom decouple. We find a Dirac-type equation for the transversal polarizations, ensuring a c…
We consider spatially homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) solutions of Milgrom's recently proposed class of bimetric theories of gravity. These theories have two different regimes, corresponding to high and low acceleration. We find simple power-law matter dominated solutions in both, as well as solutions with spatial curvature, and exponentially expanding solutions. In the high acceleration limit these solutions behave like the FRW solutions of General Relativity, with a cosmological constant term that is of the correct order of magnitude to explain the observed acceler…
We apply the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for the quantum FRW cosmological model with a minimal massless scalar field. We find that the quantum FRW cosmological model has quantum potential dominated solutions that avoid the initial and the final cosmological singularities. It is suggested that the quantum potential and the back-reaction of geometry and matter fields may change the property of the cosmological singularities of the Universe.
Cosmologies with a Chaplygin gas have recently been explored with the objective of explaining the transition from a dust dominated epoch towards an accelerating expansion stage. We consider the hypothesis that the transition to the accelerated period involves a quantum mechanical process. Three physically admissible cases are possible. In particular, we identify a minisuperspace configuration with two Lorentzian sectors, separated by a classically forbidden region. The Hartle-Hawking and Vilenkin wave functions are computed, together with the transition amplitudes towards the accelerating epoc…
The dynamics of a symmetry breaking phase transition is studied in a radiation and matter dominated spatially flat FRW cosmology in the large N limit of a scalar field theory. The quantum density matrix is evolved from an initial state of quasiparticles in thermal equilibrium at a temperature higher than the critical. The cosmological expansion decreases the temperature and triggers the phase transition. We identify three different time scales: an early regime dominated by linear instabilities and the exponential growth of long-wavelength fluctuations,an intermediate scale when the field fluctu…
We discuss the holographic principle in a radiation-dominated, closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe with a positive cosmological constant. By introducing a cosmological D-bound on the entropy of matter in the universe, we can write the Friedmann equation governing the evolution of the universe in the form of the Cardy formula. When the cosmological D-bound is saturated, the Friedmann equation coincides with the Cardy-Verlinde formula describing the entropy of radiation in the universe. As a concrete model, we consider a brane universe in the background of Schwarzschild-de Sitter bl…
We follow approach of induced matter theory for 5D vacuum BD, introduce induced matter and potential in 4D hypersurfaces, and employ generalized FRW type solution. We confine ourselves to scalar field and scale factors be functions of the time. This makes the induced potential, by its definition, vanishes. When the scale factor of fifth dimension and scalar field are not constants, 5D eqs for any geometry admit a power law relation between scalar field and scale factor of fifth dimension. Hence the procedure exhibits that 5D vacuum FRW like eqs are equivalent, in general, to corresponding 4D v…
The dynamical behaviors of FRW Universe containing a posivive/negative potential scalar field in loop quantum cosmology scenario are discussed. The method of the phase-plane analysis is used to investigate the stability of the Universe. It is found that the stability properties in this situation are quite different from the classical cosmology case. For a positive potential scalar field coupled with a barotropic fluid, the cosmological autonomous system has five fixed points and one of them is stable if the adiabatic index $γ$ satisfies $0<γ<2$. This leads to the fact that the universe just ha…
The semiclassical corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde entropy of a five-dimensional Schwarzschild de-Sitter black hole (SdS_5) are explicitly evaluated. These corrections are considered within the context of KKW analysis and arise as a result of the self-gravitation effect. In addition, a four-dimensional spacelike brane is considered as the boundary of the SdS_5 bulk background. It is already known that the induced geometry of the brane is exactly given by that of a radiation-dominated FRW universe. By exploiting the CFT/FRW-cosmology relation, we derive the self-gravitational corrections to th…
In this paper the scalar-tensor theory is applied to the study of perturbations in a multi-fluid universe, using the 1+3 covariant approach. Both scalar and harmonic decompositions are instituted on the perturbation equations. In particular, as an application, we study perturbations on a background FRW cosmology consisting of both radiation and dust in the presence of a scalar field. We consider both radiation-dominated and dust-dominated epochs, respectively, and study the results. During the analysis, quasi-static approximation is instituted. It is observed that the fluctuations of the energ…
We study a scalar-tensor cosmological model where the Einstein tensor is non-minimally coupled to the free scalar field dynamics. Using FRW metric, we investigate the behavior of scale factor for vacuum, matter and dark energy dominated eras. Especially, we focus on the inflationary behavior at early universe. Moreover, we study the perturbation analysis of this model in order to confront the inflation under consideration with the observational results.
We develop the general scheme for modified $f(R)$ gravity reconstruction from any realistic FRW cosmology. We formulate several versions of modified gravity compatible with Solar System tests where the following sequence of cosmological epochs occurs: a. matter dominated phase (with or without usual matter), transition from decceleration to acceleration, accelerating epoch consistent with recent WMAP data b. $Λ$CDM cosmology without cosmological constant. As a rule, such modified gravities are expressed implicitly (in terms of special functions) with late-time asymptotics of known type (for in…
Dark energy/matter unification is first demonstrated within the framework of a simplified model. Geodetic evolution of a cosmological constant dominated bubble Universe, free of genuine matter, is translated into a specific FRW cosmology whose effectively induced dark component highly resembles the cold dark matter ansatz. The realistic extension constitutes a dark soliton which bridges past (radiation and/or matter dominated) and future (cosmological constant dominated) Einstein regimes; its experimental signature is a moderate redshift dependent cold dark matter deficiency function.
The formalism of rainbow gravity is studied in a cosmological setting. We consider the very early universe which is radiation dominated. A novel treatment in our paper is to look for an ``averaged'' cosmological metric probed by radiation particles themselves. Taking their cosmological evolution into account, we derive the modified Friedmann-Robertson-Walker(FRW) equations which is a generalization of the solution presented by Magueijo and Smolin. Based on this phenomenological cosmological model we argue that the spacetime curvature has an upper bound such that the cosmological singularity is…
This paper studies the cosmological equations for a scalar field Phi in the framework of a quantum gravity modified Einstein--Hilbert Lagrangian where G and Lambda are dynamical variables. It is possible to show that there exists a Noether symmetry for the point Lagrangian describing this scheme in a FRW universe. Our main result is that the Noether Symmetry Approach fixes both Lambda = Lambda(G) and the potential V = V(Phi) of the scalar field. The method does not lead, however, to easily solvable equations, by virtue of the higher dimensionality of the reduced configuration space involved, t…
In this paper we consider FRW cosmology in modified non-local gravity. The stability analysis shows that there is only one stable critical point for the model and the universe undergoes a quintessence dominated era.
We consider a cosmological model dominated by stiff fluid with a constant bulk viscosity. We classify all the possible cases of the universe predicted by the model and analyzing the scale factor, density as well as the curvature scalar. We find that when the dimensionless constant bulk viscous parameter is in the range $0 < \barζ<6$ the model began with a Big Bang, and make a transition form the decelerating expansion epoch to an accelerating epoch, then tends to the de Sitter phase as $ t\to \infty$. The transition into the accelerating epoch would be in the recent past, when $4<\barζ<6.$ For…
In this article, we study the effect of the universe accelerating expansion on the structure of the general relativistic thick disks. Hence, by applying a conformal transformation on the metric of a static disk in isotropic coordinates, we transform the disk to the spacetime of a Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) of an expanding universe. Also, by solving Einstein equations in the presence of the cosmological constant, $Λ$, which leads to the expansion of the universe, we investigate the structure of this disk in a dynamical state, and the changes in the disk mass density and energy density, as …
We show that Brans-Dicke (BD) theory in 5D may explain the present cosmic accelerated expansion without recurring to matter fields in 5D or dark energy in 4D. Without making any assumption on the nature of the extra coordinate or the matter content in 5D, here we demonstrate that the vacuum BD field equations in 5D are equivalent, on every hypersurface orthogonal to the extra dimension, to a BD theory in 4D with a self interacting potential and an effective matter field. The potential is not introduced by hand, instead the reduction procedure provides an expression that determines its shape up…
We revisit ghost dark matter, the possibility that ghost condensation may serve as an alternative to dark matter. In particular, we investigate the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) background evolution and the large-scale structure (LSS) in the $Λ$GDM universe, i.e. a late-time universe dominated by a cosmological constant and ghost dark matter. The FRW background of the $Λ$GDM universe is indistinguishable from that of the standard $Λ$CDM universe if $M\gtrsim 1 {\rm eV}$, where $M$ is the scale of spontaneous Lorentz breaking. From the LSS we find a stronger bound: $M\gtrsim 10 {\rm eV}$. Fo…
In this letter we discuss cosmological first order phase transitions with de Sitter bubbles nucleating on (inhomogeneous) matter backgrounds. The de Sitter bubble can be a toy model for an inflationary phase of universes like our own. Using the thin wall approximation and the Israel junction method we trace the classical evolution of the formed bubbles within a compound model. We first address homogeneous ambient space (FRW model) and already find that bubbles nucleated in a dust dominated background cannot expand. For an inhomogeneous dust background (LTB model) we describe cases with at leas…
In this note, we propose a new model of agegraphic dark energy based on the Károlyházy relation, where the time scale is chosen to be the conformal time $η$ of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. We find that in the radiation-dominated epoch, the equation-of-state parameter of the new agegraphic dark energy $w_q=-1/3$ whereas $Ω_q=n^2a^2$; in the matter-dominated epoch, $w_q=-2/3$ whereas $Ω_q=n^2a^2/4$; eventually, the new agegraphic dark energy dominates; in the late time $w_q\to -1$ when $a\to\infty$, and the new agegraphic dark energy mimics a cosmological constant. In every sta…
Einstein's field equations in FRW space-times are coupled to the BGK equation in order to derive the stress energy tensor including dissipative effects up to second order in the thermodynamical forces. The space-time is assumed to be matter-dominated, but in a low density regime for which a second order (Burnett) coefficient becomes relevant. Cosmological implications of the solutions, as well as the physical meaning of transport coefficients in an isotropic homogeneous universe are discussed.
It is well known that for spatially flat FRW cosmologies, the holographic dark energy disfavours the Hubble parameter as a candidate for the IR cutoff. For overcoming this problem, we explore the use of this cutoff in holographic ellipsoidal cosmological models, and derive the general ellipsoidal metric induced by a such holographic energy density. Despite the drawbacks that this cutoff presents in homogeneous and isotropic universes, based on this general metric, we developed a suitable ellipsoidal holographic cosmological model, filled with a dark matter and a dark energy components. At late…
The energy and time scales during the inflationary stage of the universe calls for an out of equilibrium quantum field treatment. Moreover, the high energy densities involved make necessary the use of non-perturbative approaches as large N and Hartree methods. We start these lectures by introducing such non-perturbative out of equilibrium methods in cosmological universes. We discuss the renormalization procedure and the choice of initial conditions. We then study the nonlinear dynamics of quantum fields in matter and radiation dominated FRW and de Sitter universes. For a variety of initial co…
Modified gravity and generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics are interesting topics in the modern cosmology. In this regard, we investigate the GSL of gravitational thermodynamics in the framework of modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity or f(G)-gravity. We consider a spatially FRW universe filled with the matter and radiation enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon with the Hawking temperature. For two viable f(G) models, we first numerically solve the set of differential equations governing the dynamics of f(G)-gravity. Then, we obtain the evolutions of the Hubble parameter, the Gauss-Bonn…
The discovery of scale acceleration evidenced from supernovae luminosities and spatial flatness of feature evolution in the cosmic microwave background presents a challenge to the understanding of the evolution of cosmological vacuum energy. Although some scenarios prefer a fixed cosmological constant with dynamics governed in a Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) geometry, an early inflationary epoch remains a popular model for cosmology. It is therefore advantageous to develop a metric framework that allows a transition from an early inflationary period to a late stage dominated by dark energy. …
In expanding FRW spacetimes, it is usually the case that homogeneous scalar fields redshift and their amplitudes approach limiting values: Hubble friction usually ensures that the field relaxes to its minimum energy configuration, which is usually a static configuration. Here we discover a class of relativistic scalar field models in which the attractor behavior is the field oscillating indefinitely, with finite amplitude, in an expanding FRW spacetime, despite the presence of Hubble friction. This is an example of spontaneous breaking of time translation symmetry. We find that the effective e…
In this paper, we study a big bounce universe typified by a non-singular big bounce, as opposed to a singular big bang. This cosmological model can describe radiation dominated early universe and matter dominated late universe in FRW model. The connections between thermodynamics and gravity are observed here. In the early stage of both cold and hot universes, we find there is only one geometry containing a 4D de Sitter universe with a general state parameter. We also find the form of the apparent horizon in the early universe strongly depends on the extra dimension, which suggests that the inf…
We study Palatini f(R) cosmology using Noether symmetry approach for the matter dominated universe. In order to construct a point-like Lagrangian in the flat FRW space time, we use the dynamical equivalence between f(R) gravity and scalar-tensor theories. The existence of Noether symmetry of the cosmological f(R) Lagrangian helps us to find out the form of f(R) and the exact solutions for cosmic scale factor. We show that this symmetry always exist for f(R)~R^n and the Noether constant is a function of the Newton's gravitational constant and the current matter content of the universe.
This paper is aimed at investigating a 5D holographic dark energy in DGP-BRANE cosmology by employing a combination of Sne Ia, BAO and CMB observational data to fit the cosmological parameters in the model. We describe the dynamic of a FRW for the normal branch ($ε$ = +1) of solutions of the induced gravity brane-world model. We take the matter in 5D bulk as holographic dark energy that its holographic nature is reproduced effectively in 4D. The cosmic evolution reveals that the effective 4D holographic dark energy behaves as quintessence while taking into account the 4D cold dark matter resul…
In this article, we explore the homogeneous and isotropic flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model in Chameleon cosmology. By considering a non-minimal coupling between the scalar field and matter, we present a non-singular bouncing cosmological scenario of the universe. The universe initially exhibits the ekpyrotic phase during the contracting era, undergoes a non-singular bounce, and then in expanding era, it smoothly transits to the decelerating era having matter and radiation dominated phases. Further, this decelerating era is smoothly connected to the late-time dark energy-dominated er…
Quantum cosmology is crucial to understand the evolution of the early universe. Despite significant progress, challenges still remain. For example, the role of time in quantum cosmology is unclear. Furthermore, the influence of the environment on the evolution of the quantum universe is challenging. In this work, we studied the evolution of the quantum universe non-perturbatively using the closed real-time path integral. The environments coupled to the quantum universe being considered are the radiation, the non-relativistic matter, or the dark matter. We evaluated the influence functional of …
In this paper we investigate non-compact FRW type Kaluza-Klein cosmology coupled with 5D energy-momentum tensor. The field equations are solved by taking gravitational and cosmological constants as a function of time $t$. We use $Λ(t)=εH^{2}$ to explore cosmological parameters including statefinder and discuss them for dust, radiation and stiff matter dominated eras. Also, we evaluate lookback time, proper distance, luminosity distance and angular diameter distance. We obtain a universe which is not compatible with current cosmological observations at $ε=6$. However, for $ε>6$, the results are…
In this paper, a general FRW cosmological model has been constructed in $f(R,T)$ gravity reconstruction with variable cosmological constant. A number of solutions to the field equations has been generated by utilizing a form for the Hubble parameter that leads to Berman's law of constant deceleration parameter $q=m-1$. The possible decelerating and accelerating solutions have been investigated. For ($q>0$) we get a stable flat decelerating radiation-dominated universe at $q=1$. For ($q<0$) we get a stable accelerating solution describing a flat universe with positive energy density and negativ…
A cosmological model based on an inhomogeneous D3-brane moving in an AdS_5 X S_5 bulk is introduced. Although there is no special points in the bulk, the brane Universe has a center and is isotropic around it. The model has an accelerating expansion and its effective cosmological constant is inversely proportional to the distance from the center, giving a possible geometrical origin for the smallness of a present-day cosmological constant. Besides, if our model is considered as an alternative of early time acceleration, it is shown that the early stage accelerating phase ends in a dust dominat…
